Nell smiled over at Josh. ”No, I didn’t think you’d find it fun.” Somehow, she didn’t really think Josh would be one to enjoy sleepovers, and not only because he was so antisocial. It was just that he didn’t act like other guys. And that didn’t mean he was in any way feminine to her. He then asked whether or not she’d go around egging house, and she had to laugh at that. ”Well, not eggging a house, no,” she said. ”Because then all I can think of is that the owners will have to clean that up and I don’t want to screw up their day or something.” She didn’t like pranks were it would inconvenience someone or ruin their day. Even though it would be harmless, she still didn’t like doing that to people and making them clean up something she was responsible for. ”But other harmless stuff, sure. I think I spend too much time with the Water kids, actually…” She knew of Josh’s dislike for them, but they were a part of her alliance and she had friends in that element. Friends who like being mischevious and would very much enjoy egging a house. ”I think I’ll stick to raiding refrigerators at sleepovers, though.”
Happy that Josh liked the name she picked out for the Aventador, she said, ”And now I’m sure Harper is happy to finally have a name after she’d been neglected for so long.” She rolled her eyes as if exasperated by the fact that Josh hadn’t done this sooner, and it was just a terrible thing to do to your car. The first thing she did when getting a new vehicle was to christen it with a name. And Nell felt even better when she could joke around with Annabel about this, instead of being a blushing idiot totally embarrassed by a peeping little girl. She wasn’t a completely simpleton, after all, and she could be comfortable with Josh when it came to these things now. Well, at least comfortable in the fact she didn’t need to feel awkward after every kiss, even when Annabel came popping out of bushes like a ninja. She was pretty good at that, Nell had to give credit where credit’s due. They didn’t even notice the little girl stalking after them, and while it would have been worrying if it was anyone but Annabel, it was cute thinking of it now.
Looking up at Josh, Nell waited expectantly for an answer. It was a simple question, after all. She knew it had to do with relationships since that’s what Patrick had said, but she didn’t know in which context. She had no clue how awkward this question may be for him to answer, just like she didn’t have a clue about strip clubs. Being let loose into the world after so long while growing up without the social tools she needed to survive in the world, things like this seemed to happen a lot now. But she thought that Josh would be able to help her out with this one. Slightly confused as to why he felt they needed to switch locations so Patrick wouldn’t listen in, she said, ”Okay?” Why was he acting so weird about this, anyway? Was what Patrick said really that bad? Josh certainly seemed pissed off about it, but she didn’t understand why they had to go to a room with locks on the doors. ”…Why do we have to be locked inside for this?” Nell asked, a bit suspiciously. It was mostly just because she didn’t really like locked anything, even if it was for her own safety. She had a feeling she’d find out though.
Nell looked at him, a bit worried since he seemed to be nervous about explaining this. And then he said it was a sexual thing. Oh great, now I’m going to blush. Terrific. Any talk about sex—especially with Josh—earned that kind of reaction from her. So of course it had to be about sex. It was something she was completely naïve about and Josh…was not. She supposed she should be glad for the fact that her boyfriend was more experienced than her. Nell really didn’t think so, since it made her self-conscious and nervous. She nodded a bit at his hesitant but painfully straightforward explanation and said, ”Uh…okay. I get it.” But she’d rather not think about it, because her face was really, really red now. Then he said that Patrick thought that Nell was more dominant than him, and all the heat left her face as she started to laugh. ”He thinks…that I’m…the dominant one?” She could barely speak through the laughter, so she cupped her hand over her mouth, shaking her head as if to apologize to Josh. When she was able to speak, she did apologize as she said, ”I’m sorry that you had to explain that to me. And that I’m laughing and being immature.” She was like a giggly little kid, learning what sex is first the first time. It was strange how similar a situation it really was, though. ”But now that I know, I’m happy to say that I don’t think Patrick knows what he’s talking about.”
She sighed lightly, now more amused by this situation than anything. Since the two were definitely not having sex (she always wondered if Josh was disappointed about that), Patrick was way off base with his remarks. Once again. And she could be very glad for that. ”I don’t doubt it,” she said when he told her that he wasn’t less dominant than her. The simple fact that he had to explain things like this made that clear. And then there was the fact that she was a girl and he was a guy, and that’s how it worked, right? Guy on top? Let’s not head in that direction again. ”Like I said before, you’re all man to me.” She couldn’t even say it with a straight face, but not because what she didn’t believe it, but because Patrick thought that Nell was topsies in the relationship. Plus, there was the fact this was his grandfather these things. ”Look at it this way,” she said through giggles. ”His plan really backfired.” Since Nell didn’t have a clue what Patrick had been talking about, it had less of an effect on her than it would have had if she understood. Like Josh. ”I think we can handle a viejo verde—that means dirty old man, remember that—who’s way off base with insults.” Honestly, Patrick’s attempts at mocking his grandson and his relationship were really falling short. She guessed her naivete helped in that, so maybe it wasn’t a totally bad thing. ”Is there anyway we can prove him wrong on this one?” she teased Josh.

Just as he'd thought, Nell was similarly averse to the idea of egging someone's house for fun--though it was for a drastically different reason than Joshua himself. Josh was just uncertain about how anyone could find such activities fun, where Nell was concerned about how the people would react and the fact that it might ruin their day with the prospect of cleaning it up after. "You're too nice," he accused, but he was smiling. He liked that she was so considerate of other people. He frowned a little when the Water elementals were mentioned, remembering some of the cruel pranks that had been pulled on him in earlier years. They had a habit of leaving the harmless pranks for their allies and going all out with the worst of the worst when faced with a Fire elemental. "As long as you don't try to drown me in my sleep..." He'd actually had a Water elemental feint this as their idea of a joke. He'd nearly killed the idiot, he had been so enraged. Sure, they had no way of understanding that this was a deep and very real fear for Josh, but he didn't give a fuck about any of that. "Have fun raiding ours," he joked with a wink, though he really wouldn't mind if she did. They always had a good stock of food in the fridge. One of the perks of having a lot of money is that you never had to go hungry. Patricia tried her best not to be wasteful and to only buy what they needed, however. Donovan would just buy whatever he came across. His parents were very different in terms of their spending habits, but he loved them both all the same.
He had forgotten that Nell was claustrophobic, and he cast her an apologetic glance when she asked about the locked door. "Sorry," he said, standing up and going over to the glass door that led onto the balcony. "This one doesn't have to be, we'd see him coming. I forgot that you didn't like the doors locked." He felt a little insensitive mentioning this, but Joshua at least accommodated by unlocking it. He normally would have cracked open a couple of the windows, too, just so they could get the fresh air from outside, but he really didn't trust Patrick not to creep around the corner or something. Maybe he was just being overly suspicious, but Josh didn't trust his grandfather with anything. He sat down and started in on the uncomfortable explanation, not really sure about how Nell was going to react to all of this. At first she turned red and he worried that he might have been a bit too blunt. But then she started to laugh, and Josh couldn't help it--he joined in. It was all so silly that he felt relieved that they didn't have to lapse into too much of an awkward silence about it. "I doubt he actually believes it," Joshua said, still grinning a little. He was glad that his girlfriend was being immature about this, actually. "He's just grasping at straws, really. Inappropriate ones, but straws nonetheless." She apologised for how childish and silly she was being and Joshua just shook his head with a grin. "Don't worry about it," he assured her. "It is pretty funny, once you think about it." Then he was laughing again as he reassessed the situation. Damn, he loved Nell so much right now. This probably would have turned bad had it been with anyone else, but she managed to make a tense situation a lot better.
"Viejo verde?" Joshua repeated, lips twitching into a bit of a smile. He couldn't speak Spanish or whatever, but he nodded when she told him what it meant and vowed to commit it to memory. "I'll remember," he promised. Then, smirking deviously, he said, "We can definitely handle him. He can't speak Spanish, you could probably insult him and he wouldn't even know it." The thought delighted Joshua quite a bit. Patrick had left school after he graduated high school, as well, and he'd never been very good at French to begin with, so sometimes Joshua would insult him in the language just to throw him off. His parents, who understood perfectly, would often give him a stern look. He laughed when she asked if there were any ways to prove him wrong, his cheeks flushing with colour for a moment. Don't think like that, he scolded himself, shutting the potentially bad thoughts from his mind. If he got too ahead of himself he was going to regret it by saying something potentially suggestive. At least she took the dominance thing well, he thought to himself, and then he just laughed again. That would probably be funny for a while. Hi, I'm five years old again. "We can try to make him uncomfortable," Joshua said with a grin. Then, faltering, he added, "Just make sure not to mention his wife. She died a few years back. I wouldn't mind insulting him, but she was a decent woman." He missed his grandmother sometimes, even though he hadn't known her well. There had always been something a little... off... about her before she died. Patrick didn't talk about it.
"Let's go downstairs," he suggested lightly, seeing as there was no need to be hanging out in his room with the door locked any more. He was leading the way through one of the downstairs hallway toward the family room when he noticed that Patrick was approaching and probably needed to get past. In a moment of extremely devious assholery, Joshua smirked a little and pulled Nell into a wordless kiss. He normally would have given her a little more warning, but he had no plans of tipping Patrick off in terms of his trolling. Besides, it was incredibly fun to rub it in the man's face that he was not as gay as his grandfather had been suggesting all these years. The bait seemed to work, for Patrick stopped short and folded his arms. Joshua's attention was focused solely on Nell and on trying not to laugh, figuring that she'd picked up on what he was doing by now. He could have pulled back, stood aside, and let the man through, but there was something intensely satisfying about the way Patrick cleared his throat expectantly. Josh pulled away from Nell for a moment and arched an eyebrow. "I'm sorry," he said with complete insincerity, "We're a bit busy here. Can't you go around?" He was being an ass, he knew that. But it was true--if Patrick was that desperate, he really could have taken another way around. The man was stubborn, though, and he replied, "Get out of my way, girly." Josh just flipped him off casually and kissed Nell again. Up yours, Patrick, he thought smugly.

On the subject of pranks, Nell looked over at him mischeviously. Now that she knew he had a fear of water, she understood where he was coming from with comments like that. ”If I do anything to you while you’re sleeping, it would involve flowers,” she said. Water elementals could go messing around with their element, but it was a bit more difficult to find ways to prank people with plants. Even though she remembered the time she covered the room belonging to her friend’s dick ex-boyfriend in ivy. So she would be able to come up with something. She was clever, after all. ”But I don’t want to say too much, because I might give it away…” She kept smiling as if she ahd something crafty and sly in mind, just to make Josh wonder. As for the fridge… ”Oh, I will.” She didn’t want to do too much damage, but they were rich. It would be easy to replace food, right? But she was still worried about the fact that the Dales may not like their son’s girlfriend clearing out their fridge.
Nell’s lips twitched up when he apologized for the locked door. So he remembered her comment about being claustrophobic? She wondered if he also noticed how bad she was when they were locked in jail, but didn’t think too hard about that. ”No, it’s really all right,” she said in a placating tone. She really needed to get over that somehow, this stupid phobia. Well, when it came to the little things like locking doors. She guessed this was only something else her mother screwed up in her head. She was glad for the fact that she was able to relieve the tension with the fact that she found the entire situation pretty funny. It could have been uncomfortable—and yes, it was for a bit—but the fact that Patrick was failing at being a dick just made her lose it. ”Looks like he’s running out of ideas, huh?” she said airily, rather happy about this face. He really was getting desperate with his insults, and she wondered if he realized how dumb he sounded. And Patrick was ironically the childish one here, even though he was Josh’s grandfather. Still laughing, she could only nod her head at Josh’s words about it being funny. It really was, in a fifth grader laughing at pictures in a health book way.
”Good, it’s your first lesson,” Nell said lightly when he said he’d remember the words. Sometimes Spanish came in real handy. ”Usually I’d say that speaking in Spanish is rude around people who don’t know it…but…” She smirked. ”Somehow I wouldn’t feel bad about that.” She didn’t do it to her aunt, but that would be a nice tool to use since she never seemed to stop mocking Nell and the Fuentes’ about their heritage. And she would love to learn French so if she ever had to speak to her grandparents again, she could respond to them in a language that they didn’t understand. Did that make her a bad person? Nope, it just makes me a Frenchman. She noticed that he blushed at her suggestion, which made her feel prideful since it was Josh and he was the more confident one when it came to sex. Nell tapped her chin as if thinking, and then said, ”Sounds good.” Tormenting an old man? Well, that’s just a terrific idea. Her face turned into a mask of stark honesty when she said, ”I would never bring that up. That’s hitting below the belt.” She’d never do that with someone else’s relatives. Her own were fair game, since that’s the only thing she could use against them—hitting where it really hurt.
When she followed Josh downstairs she expected it to be a normal stroll down the hallway until she caught sight of Patrick right before Josh kissed her. She guessed this was what Josh must have felt like when she suddenly attacked him out of nowhere before, and it wasn’t a bad feeling at all. Thinking of this, she realized why he so suddenly did this and couldn’t help the smile that found its way onto her lips. Nell didn’t look over at the old man, but she was pretty sure he was there, which made her feel pretty underhanded. She couldn’t even find it in her to feel bad about this, since in her mind Patrick deserved it. Besides, kissing in front of an old man was equeally harmless and entertaining. If Nell had been expecting Josh to end the kiss so Patrick could step by, she was wrong, because when he pulled away to speak it took a great amount of effort not to crack up laughing. She didn’t think Patrick’s use of girly would have that much of an effect anymore since they’d pretty much proven Josh’s masculinity. Still, Nell didn’t stop the grin when Josh flipped his grandfather the bird and kissed her again. They must have been thinking pretty much the same thing. And she was pretty sure they'd made Patrick at least somewhat uncomfortable.

Joshua arched an eyebrow when she spoke of using her element to prank him, admittedly a bit worried about the possibilities. He knew that some Earth elementals knew how to grow poison ivy and the like, so he hoped that it wouldn't be anything along those lines. Don't be silly, he chastised himself. Nell wouldn't do something like that to you. He truly believed that his girlfriend would go for the more harmless pranks rather than things that could actually be harmful and detrimental to Joshua. For this he was very thankful, considering he didn't exactly want to wake up covered in poison ivy damage. No thank you. "I've got my eye on you," he said suspiciously, though it was accompanied by a smile to show that he really didn't mind. "Give it away? Oh dear." He wondered exactly what it was that Nell had in mind, a little worried but at least reassured by the fact that it wouldn't be anything too terrible. She'd also said that it would be with her element, so he wasn't going to have to worry about checking in the mirror for vulgar phrases written on his forehead with sloppy sharpie scrawl, either. Not that he wouldn't check anyway, just to be safe. Joshua usually showered in the mornings so he'd just subtly inspect all exposed areas of skin in the mirror to make sure she hadn't craftily trolled him. "Annabel will probably help you," he snorted, knowing that his sister always tried to sneak anything sweet behind their parents' back. He was lucky she didn't know where he hid his stash of candy or there wouldn't be anything left of it by morning.
Joshua nodded in agreement when she told him about her lack of discomfort when it came to bothering Patrick. "He deserves it," the teenager insisted adamantly. He'd never really considered her accidental outbursts of Spanish to be rude, mostly because they had been just that--accidental. If she'd been speaking another language with the intent of trolling him Joshua likely would have been furious. Which was exactly why he thought that it was such an exciting prospect to be flipped around to Patrick. He wanted the old man to feel the same fury that he had always felt when Patrick had called him gay or feminine in front of his family, his friends, his little sister. He was not gay, nor was he feminine. "I didn't figure you would," Josh reassured her. He didn't assume that she was going to get really low and over the line with her insults because he didn't think that Nell was like that. "I just figured I'd say it anyway." It was more of a safety precaution than an actual danger for him.
Kissing Nell was becoming rather natural for him, but that didn't mean he couldn't take the time to enjoy the feeling that swept through him whenever he did. This wasn't pointless foreplay with some girl he'd met in a bar, this was actual affection that he had for a girl. He wondered if she felt the same sort of thing that he did, but right now he was focusing more on the fact that Patrick had to stand here and watch him making out with his girlfriend whilst unable to do anything about it. Oh, sure, he could try to push past, but Josh knew that he was the stronger of the two. He was youthful and much stronger than Patrick. And if the man tried to touch Nell he was a goner. He grinned a little into the kiss, unable to help himself. He didn't think that anything could spoil this moment... until his mother entered the hallway and Patrick rounded on her. "Your boy and his girly are too busy being hormonal brats to get outta my way." Joshua did pull back, now, a little worried about what his mother might say. They weren't 'hormonal brats', this had been entirely intentional, but did Trish know that? His mother only smiled innocently. "Really? That's sweet." It was her turn to smirk as she strode up to the two of them, nudging Nell and then high-fiving her son. "Nice to see you two are getting along," she hummed. "Can I get by?" Grinning, Josh stepped out of her way and then smirked at Patrick. "Oh, you'd go so low as to tell my Mum?" he laughed. "I can see how well that worked out for you."
Lacing his fingers with Nell's as if to rub it in, he smiled at her and said, "I think I fancy a drive, how about you?" He didn't let go of her hand as they passed Patrick in the hallway, though he did shoot the man a smug look. Everything about today was simply amazing him. He was serious about the drive thing, though, excited to be able to take his Lamborghini out again. Harper, that was what he could call it--Her, he reminded himself--now. "I'm sure Harper's feeling neglected and there's far too much wounded pride in the air here." He made sure that the comment was loud enough for Patrick to hear. The keys to his car also included a button for the garage door, which he hit and entered, brushing his fingers against the hood of the Aventador. "I have missed this car," he said, glad that it seemed to have remained in the same condition. He'd been paranoid about the police screwing it up when they had impounded it. "I don't even know where I want to go," he mused as he watched the scissor doors lift up slowly. "I just want to drive." And Nell liked cars, so she'd probably understand how much he was pining to take out the Lambo. Donovan appeared in the frame of the door that led inside and frowned. "Where are you going?" It was controlling and made Joshua uncomfortable--especially when he was with Nell--but he just shrugged and replied. "No idea. Out. Driving. We'll be back before it gets dark." He didn't emphasise 'we'll', because he didn't need to. His father seemed to understand, giving a curt nod and going back inside. "Wanna hit the road out of town and test the specs a little with me?" he asked Nell. "I could even let you test her out once we get there." He didn't mind giving Nell a test drive with his baby, mainly because it wasn't like they'd be driving anywhere important and plus, he trusted her.

In response to Josh’s suspicious gaze, Nell merely laughed a bit as if she were hiding something. Thanks to his wariness, she was no coming up with things to prank him with. She wasn’t exceptionally skilled in the art as the Water students were, but she was resourceful and a quick thinker. She would definitely be using this against Josh. ”Do you now?” Nell retorted when he said he had his eye on her, and she was enjoying this too much. It was fun teasing Josh and having him tease back, especially when it was about a mysterious prank she may or may not pull on him. Never one to get too bad with her pranking, she simply liked to do playful things that wouldn’t bother anyone else. Unless they were vindictive, like her friend’s ex, but that rarely happened. And she definitely was not planning anything bad for her boyfriend, because that would just be unecessarily mean. He brought up his sister, and she smirked. ”Annabel? Well…” She looked off to the side with a feigned innocent face. ”I may have to enlist her.” She turned her eyes back to Josh. ”Or we’ll just spend the entire night doing girly things.” She was not acting shifty whatsoever, not at all. She just wanted to keep Josh guessing about what would happen tonight. Hopefully he wouldn’t get too cagey and set up booby traps around himself or something.
Even though it should have been awkward kissing Josh in front of his grandfather, it really wasn’t. There was a feeling of success that they had grown this far that she could feel comfortable when they locked lips, to the point where she was fine even with an audience. It was great up until the point Trish walked in and she pulled away with a blush. Patrick actually tattled on them, like he was a six-year-old in a…however-old-he-is man’s body. Ack, he’s such a snitch. Just to add to the list of reasons why she didn’t like him, but he did have a bit of a point though he could have just walked around them. So Nell waited nervously for what Trish would say. She was all right with tormenting Patrick and making him uncomfortable—Josh’s mother was a different story. But the woman surprised her with a nudge and a high-five for Josh. The girl laughed but quickly disguised it as a cough, fisting her hand in front of her mouth. Ever so polite, Josh stepped out of the way for his mother and Nell simply cast a smile over to Patrick as her boyfriend spoke to the old man, once again having the upperhand. She was very happy to have Trish’s approval, she found, since she’d actually come to admire her. And the fact that she could join in on tormenting Patrick was even better. It seemed that everyone was against him.
Holding hands with Josh, she nonchalantly said in response to his driving comment, ”I think I do too.” And then they moved away, and Nell had the urge to skip, their torment of his grandfather successful. It was a wonderful feeling, really. Nell observed the area as if she could see the wounded pride floating around, and then agreed: ”It seems that way.” In the garage, she was happy to hear him use the name they picked for the car, since she knew now he hadn’t just been humoring her and her strange ways with cars. Once again, Nell felt like skipping, this time up to the pretty car that belonged to Josh once again. The scissor doors awlways sent her heart a-flutter, and she agreed, ”Joy riding sounds great. She’s been cooped up too long, she needs to be back on the streets.” Turning when she heard his father’s voice, she was worried for a second that the man might stop Josh from going out. But the conversation passed without event, for which she was glad. ”That sounds awesome,” she said. And then he said the most lovely words ever. ”Are you freaking serious?” she asked, her voice high with excitement like a child just being told she could go to an amusement park. She considered herself a good driver, especially since she had a lot of love for cars. And to be in the driver’s seat of a Lambo with that speed and power… She was just about to swoon. ”Let’s go!” she cried out as she hopped into the passenger seat.
