This morning was not so different than any other morning. Jacob got up early, woke his sister up with a kiss, and drove to the academy for his early morning run and practice with his power. He was working hard on stamina and control over ice while it was winter, knowing it would be more of a burden when it began to get warmer. Both together took a little over an hour to complete, and afterward he went to the car, got his pack, went to one of the many restrooms, and changed into his everyday clothes. Sweaty workout clothes were not comfortable to eat in.
After that, he headed to the mess hall, got himself a big meal and sat with his friends from water and earth. A few wind students were among them, but not many today. There was jolly conversation and plenty of pranking going on at the table, but aside from giving a few thoughts in the conversation, Jacob mostly just ate in silence. People didn't mess with him while he ate—pranking Jacob while he had food around him was a terrible, terrible idea. He did, however, give a pause to his eating when four familiar faces strode into the hall. He recognized the two fire leaders and the male thunder leader, but he couldn't place the other girl.
He put another bit of food in his mouth as he watched them, but then they said that Cynthia Bainbridge had died. He choked, having to lean over his plate and spit the half-chewed food back out. Cynthia was dead? The thunder leader....was dead? Mind you, Jacob hadn't cared one bit about the girl, rather disliking her because he'd had to save several of the younger water students from her from time to time. He was one of the few that she didn't tend to mess with, his comparative power being rather daunting, even though her power was the stronger. But...dead? He shook his head, a little sad for the thunder people.
But then his thoughts turned upside down. Nell? No, not Nell. She wouldn't hurt a fly if it was biting her nose. This girl, whom he could so easily trust with his littlest sister alone, couldn't have killed anyone. He was in the process of standing, opening his mouth to make a statement of his own, when a familiar voice rang out with a hateful tone. He closed his eyes slowly, a knot forming in his throat as he sat back down. Em. He hung his head forward for a second, his hands balling into fists. She had to make a spectacle of herself, didn't she? And she'd be one of the ones to go after Nell. And she'd be one of the ones to get attacked by the waters.
He stood, leaving his food and walking slowly toward the entrance of the hall. He ignore the questions for his friends, knowing that they knew what the answers would be. He had a sister in fire. A little sister in fire, whom he couldn't hurt if he wanted to. He could be trusted with either side, really, unable to fight his sister, but also unable to hurt such a gem as Nell. Aw, Damn. He closed his eyes as he passed his defiant sister. He would have to choose eventually, though. And family would win out.
((Neutral for now, but as soon as Em starts making herself a target he's gonna go for the thunders.))

Cameron had woken up in a normal mood. It was throughout her morning she began getting irritated, she could not find Alex anywhere. She knew better then to go by his room and wake him up so she took extra long getting ready, which was hard enough to do. After procrastinating and searching, her hunger over powered her patience and she walked to go get food.
Walking passed her fellow students she perked her ears up for gossip hearing only normal things at first. Then something caught her attention, Cyn was dead. This caught Cameron by surprise, the two girls had been known to have their fights but in the end Cameron had adored Cyn to pieces. She stopped in her tracks and registered this, quickly though regaining her composure. Cameron absolutely refused to cry in public, if at all. Walking off toward the mess hall she scanned the area to see if she could spot Alex. After another moment of frustration she sat down with some other friends who were happily gossiping away.
Slowly Cam realized that the whispers around her were stopping, causing her to look up. Seeing the Thunder leader making an announcement, Cam stayed quiet, only moments later to realize Alex was up there also. Not thinking much on it she heard the leader share about the death of Cyn, who of course was a Thunder leader also, meaning they were fairly close. Cam's heart went out to him but only silently, as he continued she heard the word murder which stunned Cam to silence. Cyn, murdered? No, there was no way. Cam of all people knew Cyn could be a bitch, but she never did anything that deserved murder. Cam scanned the area at the thought of the murderer being near her, feeling herself heat up, then needing to calm down again.
Next she heard a name, one that she was not completely sure she recognized, but it was a name. Nell something, Cam watched gazes turn, so she let hers also. Cam was shocked to see the little Earth girl sitting there, obviously stunned. "How odd, well they do say it is always the last person you would suspect" Then she heard the words war, which again caught Cam by surprise. That seemed a little extreme, then she had to remind herself what she would do if Alex was murdered. There was no doubt in her mind that she would declare war on whoever had done it. She respected the Thunder leader for his decision, then it hit her why Alex was up there. She heard him speak just then about Fire joining their side, a good call by Alex in her opinion. The threat though, that was serious, and it took Cam back a little, but didn't completely shock her.
Cam saw the Wind leader storm over and yell at Alex, which caused Cam to stand up with protectiveness but knew better then to do anything else. She saw out of the corner of her eye others stand among her and walk up to join the leaders, which Cameron did also. When she reached Alex she looked him in the eyes "Well you know me, by your side until the end
She took a place next to him and crossed her arms in a threatening way as though challenging someone to approach them like the wind leader had just done. Her eyes scanned certain people with disgust as they took opposite sides, betraying their element. Others went neutral, and Cam had to respect that, sometimes it was best to just stay out of things like this. In the end, Cam wasn't sure if Nell did it or not, but she was going to stay loyal to her element. [[ Cam is sticking with Fire/Thunder ]]

Jake woke up rather hungrily, from a dream about bacon. He tried to go back to sleep, unwilling to go through another day of classes, but his stomach growled and grumbled, forcing him up. Thoughts of food ran through his mind, and that served as his motivation to finally rub his eyes awake and start the day. He took a quick shower--he took showers every day. Hot or cold, any kind was fine. As long as water touched his skin after he woke up, he always went through the day optimistically. So he let the water run down his bare skin, thinking nothing at all and just enjoying that moment. The water was cold, but like he said, he didn't really care. Besides, it did a good job of waking him up. And by the time he stepped out of the shower, he was fully ready to start the day. And what better way to start the day than with a good meal? His stomach was urging him to hurry up, so he did, and after a few minutes, he was ready.
He stared at his backpack for a few seconds, loathing every single book, notebook, any piece of knowledge in general that he knew it contained. All of which he also knew he would have to learn one day. He picked it up with his index finger, the way one might pick up a ticking time bomb. At least he would get food before the torture began. With a sigh, he slipped his thumb around the strap and slung it onto his back. It was quite heavy, actually, but his back and shoulders were already used to carrying heavy books every day and got used to the weight almost immediately.
Finally, he left the dorms and made his way to the mess hall. He could already smell the mouth-watering coming from inside, almost as clearly as he could hear all the chatter the students were making. His stomach growled in reaction.
He grabbed his share of food as fast as he could, and took his seat, thanking his friends for saving him a spot. The food was, coincidentally, bacon. His dreams were starting to get prophetic. Maybe he would dream about a house made of candy next. That would be setting his expectations too high, but whatever. These were just one of the random thoughts floating through his mind, some things to keep him occupied while he enjoyed his meal. He was in the process of shoving another piece of bacon into his mouth when the four leaders walked in.
Actually, as far as he knew, it was three leaders. The other one, he didn't recognize. The male and female fire leaders were present, and so was the male thunder leader, but the female one was absent. Maybe they finally got the sense to overthrow her and get a less bitchy leader. He smiled at the thought. But his smile soon turned into a frown when they announced that Cynthia had been murdered. Sure, he hadn't been fond of her. Okay, maybe that was an understatement. He detested the very sight of her. He knew that she had a habit of picking on the water freshman, and he hated her for that. But being murdered seemed like such a horrible thing to happen to someone, and his hate turned into pity. And this pity turned into something else, the moment they announced who the murderer was.
First, of course, was plain disbelief. Of all people in the world, they were accusing Nell? Well that was stupid. They practically lost half of the school right then and there. Everyone who knew Nell would know that she wasn't capable of such a thing. And everyone who didn't.. she was a freaking earth student. And the biggest thing earth students were known for was being peacemakers. They were probably just using Cynthia's death as an excuse to start a war. The thought brought on the next emotion, which was rage. A war? Were they that tired of school? Bored enough to start a war over nothing? Endanger the lives of hundreds, particularly Nell's, just because they wanted to? He snorted. If they wanted a war, then they were going to get one.
He scanned the faces in the crowds of fire and thunder students, returning each of their glares and looks of hatred with one of his own. He was about to stand up and declare his alliance when his eyes settled on one face in particular, and that face crumbled his resolve. Tori. He almost whispered the name out loud, but stopped it before it escaped his lips. If he sided with Nell, it would make them enemies. He didn't want that. He really didn't. But he couldn't stay neutral. Thunder and fire were cruel and harsh, and Nell would need all the allies she could get. So with those sad thoughts in mind, he stood up, glaring at all his soon-to-be enemies, hiding all his other emotions, especially his misery at having to make the choice, behind that glare.
"This war that you," he glared at the direction of the opposing leaders, ""want to start is pointless and a waste of time and effort. Look at her, she's an earth elemental, for crying out loud!." he shouted, though his words were useless since Nell had already left. He calmed his voice down, and even though he didn't shout his next words, they were loud and clear. "But if it's war you want, then it's war you'll get."
He knew that most of his words had been in vain. They had already set their minds on the war, and would never listen to reason, no matter how logical.
With that, food and appetite both forgotten, he grabbed his backpack, as calm as he could, and walked out of the mess hall. He didn't know where he was going, all he knew was that he needed to get out of that place. He needed to think. He needed to be alone.

in your own madness, what is it that you find? --
mm..
it wasn't that hard to miss, that sudden drop of change in the atmosphere, or feel all the simultaneous drawn-breaths of all those that occupied the hall.
a beat skipped, and suddenly it was as if breathing had become prohibited.
in his own usual contemplation, the stoic graduate sat by the glass wall, on the farthest corner, with his head turned absent-mindedly towards the outside image of what the wall barricaded. the green brimmed and scattered, softening the intensity of all thoughts that whirled in his mind. thoughts were picked up on, assessed, and stored, and so, indefinitely, no matter how many times he'd tried to place them all in the back of his mind, they were a constant movement that he'd never been able to control.
in the midst of children, his behaviour was in its usual state. a few vacant seats sat beside him, which he did not mind at all, as it helped for no company to keep him concentrated on keeping his thoughts under control. sure, the pressure on sophomores was only minor, but each individual had their own battles and aggrevations, and he certainly had been having a hard time controlling his own.
not that it mattered -- that sudden change of feel about the room caused him to blink, his head and stature staying immobile and casual as it was. an apple occupied his right hand, his left making acute movements with his fingers, exercising his element and relaxing his reflexes.
he wasn't a stranger to the basis of battles, and so was not the least surprised when the four, that entered with the grandest entrance through the doors, swept across the room, grabbed the fullest attention of their fellow students, and declared their heart's content. in return, his eyes started surveying each reaction across the room, keeping his calm, indifferent demeanour in check. the majority was plain shock, but perhaps these were already had, and so, instead of following the feeling, he simply felt sympathetic, and absolutely devastated.
a mar on the image of the academy; but for what purpose?
his eyes then, directed immediately towards his fellow elementals, noting how most expressed a blank look on their faces, with some feeling the buried connection with those that were involved. the buried relationships were too deep, and so perhaps made it far too confusing to place both feet on a side.
youth, in its own arrogance, was the most distinctive of all ages.
he yawned, keeping his eyes on the wind elementals, never ignorant to the present state of the others. a different approach could have been taken, but this was routine. usual, troublesome routine, that always left with a few more grudges in tact.
unlike some of his fellow classmates, he only stood up and walked casually towards the doors, and upon leaning his back on the wall, he took a bite off the apple, crossing his arms. behaviour with children where predictable, wherein an argument would break, and everyone else would follow like a flock of sheep, temper would arise, and eventualy cause an outbreak to be held. if that were the case, then peacemakers were to be at ready.
perhaps it was in his full hold of the academy's nature, but murder was just far too blatant.
far too dictative.
-- indefinitely neutral --

Xavier didn't even have a chance at having a good day. He decided to sleep in today, but only had an extra hour when his roommate woke him up rudely to tell him the bad news. "What? No..." Not Cyn. Not his Cyn. Him and Cyn were close. As close as siblings sort of. He would always think of her as an older sister at times. The thought of her gone almost made him want to weep. Fortunately, Xav wasn't a weeper. Damn. Why did this happen? He grabbed his roommate's shirt collar roughly and demanded "Tell me everything!"
It doesn't take much to get this Thunder student mad, but there were different levels for him. Annoyance would be the first stage, and anger would be the next: That one is usually how far he would get. Nothing would usually get under his skin often. He wouldn't let himself get angrier than that. Only once in a blue moon would he reach burning fury, and now is that time. When he's in this state, he couldn't think straight, only concentrating on the matter that ticked him off. He swore that he saw red while walking down the hallways straight towards the cafeteria. People moved out of the way for fear of being shoved roughly out of the way like the previous kid that didn't move fast enough for him.
He couldn't believe some random Earth chick killed his friend. It's not over the fact that an Earth student did it, it's more of anyone who had enough balls to kill one of his companions and think to get away with it. His friend told him that the Thunder and Fire leaders were in there about to declare war. He walked in just in time to see some red-head walk up and stand beside various Thunder and Fire students. He decided to join them and walked slowly towards them, concentrating on not electrocuting every Earth student he eyed. Instead, he focused his anger out on the lights as they flickered on and off. Some of that electricity radiated off of him, and the person who touches him will get a little dose of his anger. The hulking student stood behind Alexandre and folded his arm together as his eye raged in revenge and images of violence and bloodshed flooded his eyes.

Marcus tossed and turned in his bed, it was the weekend and he had no desire to move at all and had every intention not to. That is until he heard this loud sort of grumble come from under his sheets.. Marcus was a typical male, driven by few things, but one of those things was his stomach. He squinted his eyes tight shut to try and ignore it, no dice, his stomach just continued to growl until he was so fed up he sat straight up in his bed and slammed his fists down on the mattress. Such a little kid sometimes. Finally he rolled out of bed, literally rolled, and hit the floor where in one movement he reached under the bed for his socks then pushed himself up off the floor and shuffled into the bathroom. Groaning he rubbed his eyes to focus his vision and glanced in the mirror. His hair was a mess, as per usual so he grabbed his favorite brush and attempted to tame the curls before pulling on a lose fitting pair of jeans and a dark grey pin stripped button down, which he buttoned up leaving only the top two undone. His stomach growled again, louder this time. "Alright alright already.." He said to himself as he slowly made his way to the door of his relatively small room. He slid on his favorite pair of skate shoes, grabbed his keys, cell phone, and cigarettes then made his way out the door.
The late morning breeze felt good for once, finally it wasn't so stinking cold that he didn't even want to leave whatever building he happened to be in at the time. He fumbled with the pack of Newports in his pocket and pulled out a cancer stick. His thumb and forefinger made the shape of a little gun and he pointed it at the cigarette, the tip glowed cherry red and he let out the first puff of smoke of the day. Things were lookin' up already. He walked into the main school building and shook off the cold, immediately he felt something heavy about the air in here.. Whispers in the hallways. Something about someone dieing?
He turned the corner into the mess hall and noticed right away something defiantly wasn't right, everything seemed more segregated then normal. He caught sight of Samson sitting with the other thunder and fire students, some of them he knew, most of them he didn't, but he walked over there anyway. He walked up next to Samson then caught sight of Xavier too. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and turned the ringer off then looked back up to the crowd. "So.. What did I miss?"
Though he's oblivious at the moment, thunder/fire sided of course.

"Yes, yes, I'm doing fine with schoolwork. And yes, I'm eating well, Isobel. No need to worry..." she said in her phone, holding her other ear shut in an attempt to hear every word her foster mother said. These calls were not often but that woman just knew the right time to call. Well, to be honest, Mrs. Frost had called before Alexandre's debut, so perhaps important events just tended to happen when she was getting call. But while everyone was listening to the fire leader, she was trying to hunch under the table and try to get through this conversation with her mother. Of course, the conversation wasn't something she wouldn't be able to live without. She was informed of the latest events. For example, how her foster dad had broken his thumb while fixing the door of a cupboard. She also found out that, obviously, her foster mother had a few problems with baking. Cupcakes, to be exact. It seemed that they were going to need a new oven now. Freya really didn't know what one had to do, to make an oven unusable because of an attempt to make cupcakes. Wow, there really was a way to mess it up?
"Yes, I'll see ya. Sure, sure, Isobel. I know you can come to visit but that really isn't needed. Yes, yes, say 'hi' from me, too. I have to go now, I'm being poked from every possible direction." she said, really feeling the wrath of her room mate's elbow. Sharing the last goodbye, she hung up, feeling that she might've just missed something too important. At least now, the kids at the tables were uneasy. Muttering was heard all around. Well, she had obviously missed something. She couldn't hear anything specific, really. There were too many voices at once. Declaring that their leader was insane or yelling that Nell Shepard must pay. The girl did get ticked off when she heard the phrase 'You've lost your mind, Blackthorn!' more than once in a row. Even if Alexandre had not portrayed himself as one of the nicest people around, he was still their leader and a fire student. It was not ok to just shot out words at him. He was one of her own, really. So, the rest of them could shut up and sit down.
The girl next to her seemed even more taken over by anger, before she turned to Freya. "Elly, you're with us, right?" she asked, her teeth clenched as she eyed some of the earth students.
"Of course. I'd never go against my family." she said, sort of surprised to hear that question. Well... obviously, she had missed a bit more that your regular announcements. Great. If all of them were this worked up at the time, she wondered what it would look like later.
[Yes, Freya wouldn't stand against the fire students, so.. she chose Fire/Thunder, yet hopes to be neutral.]
