She can honestly say that she liked the winter. Well, she did for a while until now. She experienced her first cold here in cold, snowy Canada. She wasn’t exactly the healthiest person in the world; she at her vegetables and drank her milk with her breakfast every day. It’s just that she’s not used to this type of weather. She wasn’t used to…cold. Down in sunny Nevada, the only thing she had to worry about was seasonal allergies. She rarely caught then, so she didn’t fret.
So here she is now, sitting in this cold, lifeless office for those who are sick. She looked at the students in the room with gloomy faces that matched hers. She guessed they had either the flu or the cold, since it’s the season for both. She would have asked them what they were here for if she were in a better mood. That, and the guilt of using up most of the tissues from the box that sat on the small coffee table in the middle of the office.
Just then a woman entered. She called the name of someone, and a girl stood up and followed her. Lucky. She’s been waiting in the office for at least 10 minutes. That short amount of time can go a long ways when you’re in misery. She stood up for the millionth time to grab some tissue when some fire student something harsh to her. “Why don’t you just keep the box freshie, since you’re making good pals with it.” He got in a couple of laughs with his snarky remark. Her feelings would have gotten hurt any other day, but she merely shrugged it off and took the box with her to her seat. While blowing her nose, she looked at the door, pleading for it to open up and have one of the nurses call her name.

Alexander pushed the door to the medical wing open. This is the second time I've been here this year already, Pathetic. Although he wasnt in here because of someone else hurting him he still found it pathetic that he had been here twice in such little time. "Shut up." Alex muttered as he heard the fire students remark he went and sat down next to the girl who the fire student said the remark to assuming he was right and she was a freshmen. "Hi I'm Alexander Nice to meet another freshmen finally. Alexander said happier than he was when he walked in maybe he would finally have a freshmen friend. Alexander looked at the girl sitting next to him and blushed a little then looked away. He hadnt even really looked at the girl before he sat down. Wow shes...pretty. He thought silently to himself. "So why are you here?" Alex asked rather curiously it didnt look like she had been burnt or shocked and as far as he knew the Water and Earth students didnt just go around attacking freshmen. Alexander hadnt even thought about what element she might be and made it a point that he would ask later on before she left. Alex now couldnt get his mind off of trying to decide what element she might be. He didnt think that it would be fire he heard that they were pretty unified and if he could tell anything it was that the kid who made the remark was definetly a fire student.

She heard a ‘shut-up’ which caused her head to perk back up at a boy who sat beside her. He was cute, and she felt herself blush. Uh, I feel so bad…I probably look the same too. He greeted himself towards her and she nodded. “Hi. I’m Dannica, but you can call me Dani for short.” So he’s a freshman too? That was a relief. She was starting to think she was the only freshman here. In every class she’s in, she was always the youngest, even if they were freshman themselves.
“Yeah I’m a freshman too. “ She smiled as best as she could despite how she felt. “I’m here because of a cold.” She lifted her almost empty box of tissues to show him the damage she’s done. “They’re right. I have been rather friendly with this thing. Excuse me.” She reached towards her left to poor a generous amount of hand sanitizer. Rubbing her hands together, she then turned towards him and continued.
“And you? What are you here for? Are you sick too?” She looked him up and down. He didn’t have any noticeable scars like some of the kids here. Who knows, she just hoped that she wouldn’t contaminate him with whatever she has: the cold or the flu. She then wondered what element Alexander is. He couldn’t be Fire, that much was obvious from the way he spoke to those Fire kids. That left the other four elements, and something told her that he wasn’t a Thunder either. He’s too friendly.

"Nice to meet you Dani." Alexander said he was actually really happy that she was a freshmen not someone who would be offended by being called a freshmen. Alexander was suprised that she was here for a cold, he assumed it would have something to do with the fires or thunders. After hearing what she was hear for he waited for the question that he knew was going to be asked. "Doesnt give them the right to pick on you about it." Alexander said quietly as the fire students were in the same room. Alexander chuckled to himself when she asked why he was here. "Im just here to make sure when i tried to do a flip i didnt get a concussion." Alexander thought that he sounded stupid when he said it but he wasnt going to lie about something as simple as that. Alexander felt his cheekes heat up some when he said why he was here and tried to calm down to no success. "I havent seen you around, What element are you? Im a water student." Alexander said curiously it would be hard to miss another freshmen and he would remember the freshmans faces if he saw them. Alexander had already come to the conclusion she wasnt fire and she didnt seem like a thunder as the fire kids were picking on her and they had an alliance. So that left Wind Earth or Water. Alexander might have just missed her if she was a water since they have differnt parts in the dorm to sleep in.

“Likewise, Alexander.” She really did mean it; it was nice for a change to meet a freshman…well, a friendly freshman. The ones she encountered weren’t as open. He seemed to be surprised she was here for something small like a cold. Well, she was too, but at least it was better than being burned or shocked to the point that you had to come here. Luckily for her, she hasn’t had that happened to her…yet, and hopefully not at all.
She shrugged nonchalantly as he stated his opinion. “I’m a freshman: that gives upperclassmen almost the right to have free reign on us… almost.” Yeah, it was cruel what they did, but she didn’t hate them for it. It was a matter of reflection: they’ve been through it as freshman, so they’re going to do the same when they become older. Dani just hoped that she wouldn’t become the same; she empathized with people too much to hurt them.
She nodded at his reason he’s here. “Hmm, I might not be a doctor but…did you get dizzy afterwards? That could be a symptom for a concussion. That, and slurred speech…or is that a stroke?” She shrugged and gave up the medical analysis. She’d let the nurse handle it since that’s why she has the degree. “Why were you trying to do a flip?”
So he’s Water? That’s a relief. She figured he was either that, or Earth, since they were the nice elements. She smiled and spoke her own element. “I’m Wind. And I sorta…stay to myself. That’s why you haven’t seen much of me.” She knew it was completely anti-social, but she was working on it. She’s starting to speak up a little more than usual, which was very uncomfortable. And it makes sense that she hasn’t seen him, since he’s a Water student. Some to think of it…he’s the first water student she’s encountered. Her interest in him grew, and so did the fire in her cheeks.

"It wouldnt be a problem if it was the Water students that attacked the freshmen in my opinion." Alexander said all they would really do was splash them with water maybe force some water down their throats, Definetly not as bad as being burnt. "I think that is a stroke... But thanks for asking. No real reason just wanted to see if i could do a flip on solid ground." It was funny now that he thought about it he was just standing there and decided to try a flip. Although trying to do a flip inconviently made him have to come to the medical wing... Oh well. "Oh your the first wind student I've met. Understandable that you stay to yourself theres so many poeple here and the academy's so big. He found it wierd he just said academy instead of school he would have never done that a few months ago. "So have you been enjoying the academy? Alexander said he could feel the heat rising in his cheeks but couldnt see it luckily or else it would have been 100% worse. Alexander looked up and saw her cheeks grow red. Her cold or fever or whatever she has must be acting up... He thought stupidly.

The girl nodded in agreement. “Yeah, I wouldn’t mind a Water student. They’re a lot nicer. I’ll choose their pranks over a Fire or Thunder students’ any day.” Right after she said that, a sneeze followed. She grabbed a tissue and blew her nose. Throwing the used tissue in the trash, then going to the hand sanitizer again, she sat back down with a flop. “Being sick sucks,” she said to particularly to no one.
She laughed at her own mistake. “Oh. Oops. My mistake. I’m glad you don’t have those symptoms.” His reason seemed valid. Boys do crazy things sometimes; always hurting themselves and whatnot. She couldn’t help but giggle at the mental imaged portrayed in her mind with him flipping. A blush again formed on her cheeks as she thought about the boy beside her.
She nodded and replied “You’re the first water student I’ve met…and I’m glad that you’re nice.” Oh gosh, I hope he didn’t take it the wrong way… She meant that he was just nice…not anything more than that. She’s not saying she’s not interested…She facepalmed herself to stop all the thoughts in her head and forced herself to focus on the boy.
She smiled and nodded. “Yeah. Besides all the rude comments and the teasing, I like it here. I…belong here.” She said the last statement in a quieter tone. She’s come to terms with the fact that she’s not normal for a while now; even before she came to the academy. Not being adopted until the age of 10 puts thoughts like that in the minds of the young. She thought all her life that the reason why she wasn’t adopted until recently was that there was something wrong with her. As far as she could tell back then, nothing was wrong with her…physically that is. But now she knew that she was, in fact, different. “How about you? Do you like it here?”

"Ya I would rather wake up with a A snake in my bed everynight then get burnt and shocked by the fire and thunder students." Alex agree'd with her being sick sucked and only nodded in reply. "Ya.... If i had those symptoms i would be really scared right now." He had met someone who had a stroke, They couldnt move their whole right side. Not all people that have a stroke are like that of course but that was just his personal expierence. Alexander blushed when she giggled for just a second and felt the heat leave his cheeks thankfully only a second after. "Ya from what i can tell most of the water students are friendly. But thats just from personal expierence." He was glad that she thought she belonged here because he didnt know any other freshmen and it would be sad if she left and didnt learn to harness her element to use it to help herself. "Ya I like it here alot, Except for worrying about being burnt or shocked Its kind of fun. Although i wish it was easier to control the water as a freshmen wouldnt have to worry about getting burnt as much." Alexander hoped she didnt think he meant only water he would rather have all the freshmen be able to control their element easier even the fire and thunders but water just came to his mind for an obvious reason.

“Oh, well, I don’t know about all of that…" The girl didn’t really like snakes all that much. Fake or real, the frightened the life out of her. She would sometimes find snakes out in the backyard of the orphanage she came from: one almost bit her and that terrified the poor child ever since. “No thanks. No snakes for me. I’ll take the burn and/or shock.” It might sound foolish of her to say something like that, but she was telling the truth. “Snakes are one of my top three fears.”
She giggled a little. “I agree, and I would be scared for you.” The little girl then looked up from the creaky noise that came from the door. It was the patient from before now leaving. The nurse held a clipboard and spoke out the next person to see her. Some girl name Mary was the lucky one this time. She sighed and slumped back into her seat. She didn’t know how much of this misery she could take. She looked over at her new companion and gave him a weak smile. At least she’s not in total misery…
Dani nodded in agreement with the Water student comment. She couldn’t say much on the matter since she’s never met one before him. He also said he liked it here also. Well that was great. She hasn’t met a single person yet that doesn’t like this school. She shrugged at the ability thing. “Practice makes perfect I guess. Watch this.” She stuck out the palm of her hand and made a small like sphere of wind in the center of it. She then bounced it from one hand to the other and laughed. She pushed it over towards Alex so he can play with it.

"Oh uh sorry then, Clowns." Alex said without thinking he felt his face lose all heat and knew he looked pale right now. "Clowns are one of my biggest fears." It had to be fucking clowns huh? He felt like such a little kid saying it. It couldnt have been something like poisonous snakes or sharks No he was afraid to CLOWNS, Spiders, and was claustrophobic. "They really need more nurses here this place took a while to get in last time i was here too." Alexander decided if he was called first he was going to let Dani go before him since he felt fine now. Was he going to tell her that and leave? No he liked he company, She was nice and not to mention she was cute he thought to himself. Wow where did that come from? He had only ever described one person as cute before and he had been going out with that girl.... It was wierd for Alexander having that pop into his head. He blushed a little at the thought of calling Dani cute in his head it wasnt a lie or anything she was really cute but he had been going out with the person he called cute before. "Whoops sorry about that..." Alex said while blushing from embarresment. He tried to bounce the ball back to Dani and it had vanished at his touch then he had an idea. He reached forward and grabbed a water bottle out of his bag that he had completly forgotten about and took the cap off. "Ill use Water and you can use wind." Alex said happily as he raised the water out of the bottle focusing on it. He had been practicing after what happened when he met Jacob. "So have you been enjoying it here? I uh I mean Have you made any friends really like any boyfriends? I mean friends that just happen to be boys." Alexander was mentally murdering himself over and over in his head. He felt his whole face turn red. Im so stupid! stupid stupid stupid stupid! He yelled at himself in his head. First he was calling her cute then he asked if she had been enjoying it here AGAIN then like the complete idiot he was asked if she had made a boyfriend. Although he did wonder if she had he didnt mean that when he asked. "Uhhhh you dont have to answer those questions I'm sorry... He said hopefully thinking he wasnt a creep trying to pry into her personal life.

Clowns are his phobia? Well, that’s understandable; they are really creepy. “Clowns are a little scary too. I think it’s eerie how they’re always smiling.” She remembered one nightmare she had about clowns. She was so scared that she had to sleep with one of her older friends that night. They weren’t her phobia, but they did freak her out.
She shrugged. “Either that, or they’re getting all the Fire and Thunder kids out of the way and out of their hair. If that was the case, then that’s reasonable.” She didn’t hate these kids. It’s just that they were extremely annoying. They were the bullies of the school, which makes sense; you can’t have a school without bullies.
Dani giggled when the air blew away at his touch. Her eyes widened with awe as he raised the water from the bottle. She’s never seen a water user control their element before. “Wow, amazing!” She then smiled at the idea that formed in her head. Putting the tissues down, she reformed the air, then pushed it inside of the water forming a big bubble. “There we go. That way we can both control it.” She looked as other people in the waiting room saw what they were doing with wonder.
He asked her if she liked it here. Wait, didn’t he ask me that already? She looked at him with confusion as he began spilling out words. Did she have a boyfriend, or what he rephrased a friend who’s a boy? Her blush deepened as her heart started beating fast. Why did this boy want to know? She would tell him that she never had a boyfriend, but he’ll then think she’s pathetic or something, like how she often thought of herself. She shook her head fast and answered. “No, I don’t have a boyfriend, but I do have friendboys.”
She smiled at his facial expression. She could see that he really did not mean to say that, and the blush made it obvious as well. “No, it’s alright. I don’t mind you asking.” Now it was her turn to ask him the same question and reflect the same blush. “Do you have any…um… female friends or girlfriends?”

"its just bad memories for me, Really really bad memories." He listened to Dani saying maybe their getting rid of all the fire and thunders first. "Ya, Its probably safer that way." Alex didnt particulary HATE the thunders or fires it was just the ones that hurt the freshmen he didnt like. He blushed a little when he heard her giggle at the air dissapearing. "This is nothing, I met one kid who can lift it into the air and turn it into ice, Of course i cant do anything near that." He said he did think it was kind of cool but it was still nothing compared to what jacob could do. "Wow I would have never thought of that." Alex said as she pushed the air into the water. Alexander didnt know why exactly but it felt like he had a weight removed from his shoulders when she said she didnt have a boyfriend. When she said she didnt care that he asked he grinned. "Umm ya i've met a few girls and their my friends but I've only ever had one girlfriend and we had barely even held hands so i dont know if that counts but other than that nope i've never had a girlfriend here or anything like that." He felt stupid and pretty pathetic saying it but it was the truth and he liked being honest. Alexander moved the water ball a little more then without thinking he took a deep breath then asked Dani a question. "Willyougooutwithme? I mean i understand if you dont want to because you just want to be my friend or you're just talking to me to not be bored or even if you were just trying to learn one of my fears and i know i must sound really pathetic and all asking already but." He said the first part really fast and took a deep breath then said the next part slower. He felt so stupid not only did he ask her out but he gave her a list of reasons she could reject him. He was going to mentally murder himself for a very long time after today most likely.

She nodded in agreement. “Heights are mine. I was on an rollercoaster ride when I was little and never been on one ever since.” She told him that because she didn’t want him to feel bad. She had to let him know that everyone had their fears, and he wasn’t alone. “Even looking at something high, or looking down from something high, it gets me dizzy."
She nodded again and leaned back in her chair. She was starting to get sleepy. She didn’t get a good night’s rest, and her body chose right now to start to shut down on her. She looked over at him to hear his statement. “Really? That’s incredible. I wish I could do something as amazing as that with my wind."
She listened carefully to his love life and felt relief rush in through her. She had to admit, she didn’t like the fact that he had a girlfriend, even though they barely held hand according to him. “Not to worry Alex. I’ve never had a boyfriend at all. No one’s ever held my hand or anything of the like.” She shrugged it off as if it were nothing. Deep down she thought it was because she wasn’t pretty enough, or that she wasn’t normal, or that she was too quiet to be noticed.
She hardly caught what he said because it was rushed through so fast. She thought he asked her to go out with him. Now her face was almost completely red as she smiled like a mad woman. She had to hide her face from him so that he wouldn’t see hers. She didn’t hear the rest of the words he said because she was trying to force the large smile off of her face. Taking a few breaths and clearing her throat, she looked at him and smiled. “Sure. I’d love to go out with you.” Her heart was beating out of her chest as she spoke those words for the very first time.

"Maybe you will It didnt seem like they taught it to him in a class but I could be wrong he was in college...." He said when she said that she wished she could do something like that with wind. Alex belived her when she said that no one had ever held her hand but was shocked she was really nice and cute. It was wierd to him because it seemed like she could get along with anyone so he figured she would have had a boyfriend already. Alexander sighed a little when she turned away thinking she was going to say no to him. "I'm sor- Wait really? Thats great! Even after I gave you a list of reasons to tell me no. Ummm so is it like a secret or no? Alex asked people had relationships that they wanted to keep a secret alot so he figured she might be the same way but either way he was happy. "Ah woops" Alex said as the ball of water splashed all over him he had forgotten it was right over him and lost all concentration over it. He couldnt even get enough concentration to pull the water off of him. He heard laughing across the room but was way to happy to even do anything about it he couldnt even bring himself to flipping them off. "I know this might sound kind of pathetic but thats the first time I ever asked anyone out." He said truthfully. Sure he had gone out with someone before but he was way too shy when it came to relationships and she decided instead of waiting she would ask him out instead. It was embarresing to Alex but he soon got over it since he liked her alot. He had never told anyone that she asked him out so no one made fun of him but now it didnt matter to him anymore, He felt like he could say anything and not care anymore. It was the first time he was truly happy since his brother died. Sure he was kind of happy at times but never actually 100% happy. He felt like he could do anything now and he had a gut feeling that he didnt actually have a concuscion but he wasnt going to take that feeling as a guarentee or else he would have to leave.

“Hmm, maybe.” She thought a little bit on it. It turns out thast in college students learn the most interesting in things. The first college student she met had the ability to heal, and she thought that was amazing. She smiled softly, imagining herself forming a tornado a lot bigger than the one she was playing with now with her friend.
Correction: boyfriend. She couldn’t believe that she has an official boyfriend now. The girl can almost imagine the reaction of her parents once she told her tonight. She also planned to her friends, the few that she had anyway. She laughed at his comment and shook her head. “No, I don’t care about any of that. I actually like talking to you. It’s…comfortable. And I don’t really talk to anyone.” She would probably jump for joy or something along those lines if it wasn’t for the fact that she’s sick. She wanted to hug this boy next to her, but her cold/flu forbid her to not do it.
“Secret?” She looked around at the people who were steadily listening in on their conversation. Whispering to him with a blush, she said “Is it supposed to be a secret? Sorry, I don’t really know what to do in relationships.” The freshman felt like she was sheltered her whole life not knowing what to do. Her new mother never really told her what to say and how to act when a boy asked her out; she just assumed the 13-year-old girl knew what to do. But, why keep it under wraps? It was nothing to be ashamed of. So the girl shook her head and looked at him with her bright brown eyes. “I don’t think it should be a secret.”
She giggled a little when the ball landed on him. She heard others across from her laughing and glared at them. They easily ignored her and continued on with their own conversation and she did the same. “Here, let me fix that.” She put her hands side-by-side facing his pants and started to blow dry the wet spot. She looked up at him again when he mentioned it was the first time him asking anyone out. She shook her head. “No. Don’t feel that way. Believe or not it’s my first time someone asking me out. I thought it was because no one liked me or something.” She didn’t know, nor did she really care. Unlike some of her friends and classmates, she wasn’t boy crazy. She’s not into girls, but she didn’t care to have lover either. Alexander might just change all of that, and she was looking forward to it.
