Elaine continued to look confused as Dani tried to explain what was up. Yes, this was something that she has sort of noticed herself, but that didn't explain how Dani had figured out that Elaine could see with her wind. It didn't seem to be that the girl was able to, not the way that Elaine could. This was a little disappointing, but as the same time Elaine was almost relieved. As much as she wasn't sure she wanted to be completely alone in this, she knew that having a real advantage that no one else had was important for someone like her. It was like a little invisible wall that kept people only going so far before they backed off. Usually.
Her expression softened, though, when she detected the nervousness in Dani's tone. Her free hands groped toward Dani until she found the girl's shoulder and then she squeezed it comfortingly. ”Yes, you're making sense. I was just surprised that you figured out my ability to see all on your own. You're the only person who's ever done that.” Most people assumed that she got around so well because she both had really good hearing and a really detailed map of the academy in her head. Both of those reasons worked now, but it didn't work so well when she was just a freshman. She had stumbled about back then, with or without her wind.
Elaine nodded, ”Yes, there are tutors available. She let her hand fall away from Dani's shoulder, continuing to lead to her toward the dorms. They were only a few hallways away from the base of the tower in which with wind dorms were located. ”I happen to know the best tutor in the school, though he's a bit of a hermit.” She said this fondly, laughing a little as she did. Josh was a good friend of hers, and she'd always feel that way. Then she angled her face toward Dani's with a slightly apologetic look. ”I'd offer to help you, but seeing as all my written work has to be in braille, it probably wouldn't work.”

Dani hoped Elaine knew what she was talking about. When she explains things verbally, they sometimes mess up. They sound a lot better in her head, which is one of the reasons why she stays quiet: she get’s easily tongue-tied. She doesn’t know how she knew that about the wind; it was just a feeling…almost like a sixth sense. Well, it would be seventh, since the sixth would be her wind. She tried explaining this wind sense to her parents, but they didn’t understand. They pretended to know, but she knew that they didn’t. But, she was happy that they actually paid attention to her unlike the people who watched her when she was little.
When Elaine spoke, her troubles were answered. She said she was the only person who’s done that. “Really? Wow. Thanks. It was a lucky I guess I suppose...” She shrugged it off as nothing, but inside she was smiling. She felt special and unique: the first time in a long time for the former, and the first time for being happy about being the latter. She looked up at Elaine and smiled even though she knew she couldn’t see it. She was also so glad to share her feelings and thoughts with someone who didn’t judge her.
She nodded again. “Well, maybe he can help me. I won’t be a bother. I can be a hermit at times too, so I can relate. That’s a problem I have: it’s the main reason why I have little to no friends. That, and I’m shy.” She sighed and then she felt the nervousness creep back in her system. She looked back down at her watch and shuddered. It was almost time for class. Oh gosh… I hope I don’t make a fool of myself like I did last time. Last time for the first day of school, she accidently mispronounced her name out of nervousness and for the rest of the semester, her teacher called her “Donni” and instead of Dani. That was so embarrassing…

”Well,” She said, ”It was a really good guess.” Elaine meant it. She was impressed, and she sounded impressed, in that quiet way she had. A soft smile came upon her lips as she considered that no one else had every figured that out on their own before. They had commented on the fact that she seemed to use her powers at arbitrary time with no good reason, and then she would tell them. But that was the closest anyone else had ever gotten. Dani really was a one-of-a-kind little freshman. Elaine would enjoy her company.
Now that they were inside, Elaine moved the fingers of her free hand in a gesture that somewhat resembled what might have beckoned someone over. But she was really pulling the warmer air from the better heated rooms of the academy toward them, wrapping it around the two girls and sending it up the circular staircase in the base of the tower before them. When they reached the door to the toward stairs, she turned her face toward Dani and smiled. ”Here we are. Seeing as you don't know the password, I'll go up with you to let you in. But then I need to get to class. I need more time to get to class than most people.”
Dani started talking about how shy she was, and Elaine had to laugh a little. She was trying to imagine this poor little shy freshman approaching Josh for help, and it made her laugh a little harder. Then it occurred to her that Dani might think she was laughing at her and she quickly opened her mouth to explain herself. ”His name's Josh, and he can be a little intimidating. I have yet to learn his soft spot, though I seem to have a better time with him than most people. If you really need help, I can ask him if he'd be interested in helping you. But something tells me you'll do just fine here. And Phil, the wind leader, is very good with the freshmen as well.”

“Thanks,” she said again and smiled. That was a really good guess. She hit it squarely on the nail so to speak. She hardly gets anything right so this is a real achievement for her. She hoped this junior could teach her what she does, yet she thought it might be unique to her: sort of like a fifth sense for her since her sight is not there.
Once they were inside, she nodded at the familiarity. Not that she didn’t trust Elaine, she just needs that extra reassurance. She felt the warm breeze come out of nowhere and smiled again. She welcomed it and let out a small sigh of delight. The heat reminded her of home. She thought about the warm, relaxing sun touching her skin. She’s always enjoyed the hot seasons better than the cold. Her father told he she’s in for a big surprise when she came here, and boy was he right.
Elaine turned to her and told her she’d help her get in and then had to leave. “Ok then. Thanks for everything Elaine. Your kindness has helped me greatly. I’m not as petrified going to this new school as much.” She’s still nervous, which is normal for everyone going to a new school, but not as much. Thanks to her new friend, she relaxed her dramatically. She understood why she needed to get to her class early and mumbled an ok.
Then Elaine started to laugh out of nowhere. She raised an eyebrow at her was about to ask her what was up when she answered. Intimidating? She gulped and became wary of the guy already. Something told her that she’d be okay if that was the case. Then Elaine spoke of the wind leader Phil. Wind leader? She wondered what Elaine meant by that but decided to ask her about it another time. They both needed to get to class.
