Maybe a broken nose would teach this asshole not to talk about Joshua's scars around him... or anywhere else, for that matter. He almost couldn't stop himself and when he did lower his fist he was breathing heavier than before and took a subconscious step back so that he wouldn't be tempted to throttle his fellow Fire. "You ready to bet on that?" Did Parker realise how close he'd come to having Joshua attacking him? Had they not been in the medical wing, he would not have so much as considered hesitating. Hell, it wasn't even like he could always help himself when he was expected to, either. He'd punched Mr. Seok when the arrogant Home Ec teacher had rubbed him the wrong way. He'd been lucky to avoid expulsion for that one. Needless to say, he was glad when the situation wasn't quite as explosive. He still harboured a bitterness and wouldn't forget this in a hurry but he clung to the civil conversation in the hopes of keeping himself moderately calm. In a normal situation he'd have either acted in violence or stormed off by now, so keeping the peace was the only thing he could think to do when he didn't have the liberty of leaving in a hurry. He shook his head. "Not true." He was fairly opinionated and it took more than a few choice words to budge him from any stance he might take. "I'm not following my element." Not allowing Parker the chance to interrupt, he continued, "Sure, I might be using it to my advantage, but I don't exactly plan to work in burn trauma the rest of my life. I wanted this," he gestured around the room to indicate the general medical environment, "before I knew what element I'd get stuck with." Stuck with, because that was really how it worked. Oh, he loved his element and wouldn't trade it for any of the others if you paid him, but he hadn't been given a choice in the matter. No one had. But he had a choice of his career, and it was a choice he had made long ago. Not forgetting the earlier close call, his dry laugh was more grim than humorous. "Slip up again and I'd get ready to run." That was all he was saying on that matter. As Parker headed for the door, Joshua headed further into the room toward the sink in the back. He washed his hands frequently, as was medical wing policy, and the scalding water felt good against his skin. Though the sound of water rushing from the faucet and down the drain was audible, it did not drown out the Fire by the door. Glancing back over his shoulder so that he could arch his brows at Parker, he said, "I seem to recall being bitched at for my complete lack of sympathy a couple minutes ago." His lips twisted into a wry smirk. He hadn't spoken up because he felt he had anything to prove. Hell, he didn't care if Parker went around telling everyone he was a complete asshole lacking any feeling or emotion. No skin off his back. He was just stating facts, at least what were facts in his mind. |
