The wind travels freely across the world, taking it's messages with it. At the moment Kai was sending a soft medley in the wind. Kai was currently in the bell tower playing his violin. He was standing at the point right before entering where the bell chamber was. He was playing Ave Maria. It was one of his father's favorite pieces. As he played he liked to believe that the notes traveled in the wind, taking the sweet music up to the heavens where his father could listen. Playing his violin and especially this piece made him feel closer to his father. Of course his father would always be in his heart but when he played, it was like an extension of that.
Kai just sighed as the song came to an end. He carefully placed the violin back in it's case and put it safely near the wall. The violin had been a gift from his father and he cherished it. He leaned on the window area that was situated on the wall. He just looked out onto the horizon. Wouldn't be long before the sun would be beginning to set. He liked looking out onto the horizon. With all the different colors it was truly beautiful sight. He just continued to stare out the window, enjoying the peace of the moment.

Emmett stretched his arms out, wincing slightly at the sound of cracking bones. He had just woken up from his daily afternoon nap, but it seemed he woke up later than usual. It was one of those days where Emmett was just in a strange mood. He wasn't like his usual, indifferent self, nor was he in one of those (rare) spouts of happiness. He just felt...weird. Barely brooding on the subject, Emmett shrugged to himself and got up from his bed, thankful to see that his roommates were gone. It's not like he had anything against them, but it was nice to wake up to silence and solitude for once.
He looked over at the open window and leaned against the sill, closing his eyes at the breeze caressing him. Emmett usually didn't like going out for walks, because the Academy was very unpredictable. One corner would be deserted and another crowded with people; he remembered the mistake in his first year of the Academy to take a stroll. It was going fine until he reached a certain area. It seemed like there was a party taking place and although Emmett quickly darted out of there, his panic attack started slowly surfacing. Face damp with sweat, his heart beating erratically and unwanted memories flashing through his mind, it was one of the most traumatic experiences he's had so far at the Academy.
In the distance, Emmett could faintly hear the sound of violin. He leaned out further outside the window, to make sure his ears weren't tricking him, and a small smirk spread on his lips. It could only be one person. He contemplated briefly before grabbing a jacket and heading out toward the bell tower.
And of course, each step he took the violin music became more noticeable, and as Emmett climbed the steps to the bell tower, he could make out a familiar figure absorbed in his music. Reaching the top, Emmett leaned against the wall, watching Kai silently. He smirked; sometimes Kai was too oblivious to his surroundings, and Emmett often liked taking advantage of that. He casually stood beside Kai, resting his elbows on the window sill and waited to see how long it would take him to notice Emmett was there.

The perfect moment to catch Kai completely of guard is when he is playing his violin. Kai is one that will get completely lost in his playing, forgetting the world around him. On a normal basis Kai has very sharp instincts. He isn't one to be scared out of randomness on a usual basis, don't expect to be creeping up on him. It's actually quite rare for someone to be able to seek up on him. That is to say when someone is trying to seek on him when he isn't playing violin. When he was playing his violin he would get lost in the music, forgetting his surroundings, where he was, the time of day. The only thing he knew was himself and the music. This would definitely be his weakest point. If ever someone were to attack him the best time would be when he was in the middle of song because he would know what hit him. This was probably why he tended to try and find secluded places to play. Then again the bell tower probably didn't exactly fit that bill since anyone could just pop up out of know where. It's been known to happen.
Of course there were a few times where it wouldn't be complete strangers to show up out of nowhere. No, there were times when certain people, people that knew Kai's weakness, that took advantage of that. In the middle of Kai's playing they would sneak up on him and surprise him. And this person in particular took complete enjoyment out of being able to catch Kai off guard during these brief moments where Kai's guard is completely down. Kai was reaching the climax the melody he was playing. His favorite part of the song. He opened his eyes slightly as he slightly angled himself as he played and that was when he caught the sight of a certain thunder who was just standing there casually. The sudden appearance of the thunder made Kai jump a little in surprised and forced him to stop playing. "Must you really all ways do that Emmett?" he said with sigh as he rolled his eyes. Emmett just got a kick at being able to sneak up on Kai. Emmett Nakamura. A tenth grade thunder and Kai's best friend. Some found it hard to believe. Kai and Emmett were quite the opposite personality. Where Kai was a bit more outgoing Emmett preferred his solitude. Emmett enjoyed thunderstorms and Kai disliked them to the point of fear. Where Emmett could be rather insensitive Kai was very cautious of the feelings of others. Not that they didn't have their common interests but there were definitely a number of difference that would make anyone question their friendship. Despite all that though they were friends. Scratch that, they were best friends. Despite the obvious differences they made it work and Kai wouldn't have it any other way. It wasn't like they had to worry about alliances since Kai was a wind which didn't have a set alliance unlike the other elements.
"Perhaps one of these days you could actually make your presence known instead of sneaking up on me." he said teasingly as he was putting his violin away in it's case. "What are you doing up here anyways? I thought you were taking your afternoon nap?" he asked looking at the time on his watch. It was the weekend so they didn't have classes to be worrying about. They had a good thiryt minutes before the bell would be going off so they were in the clear for now. He went over and stood near the window and leaned on the window sill. There was a light breeze which didn't make it very cold thankfully. "So are you planning on staying cooped up in your room again this weekend for the umpteenth time?"

No matter how many times he listened to Kai play violin, Emmett was always fascinated by his spirit. Kai lost himself in the melody, and he always had this face of calmness, like he was in his own little world, and Emmett was jealous of that. The only thing he had remotely close to that was sleep, and even then monsters manage to creep inside every now and then. His mind then wandered to his piano he used to own when he lived in the foster home. Emmett would always play it, because it was literally the only thing he had. The other children would ignore him and although at times he was grateful, the loneliness would just be too much for a small child to go through. The piano was the one thing that helped Emmett make it through, and he often missed the feel of the piano keys underneath his fingertips.
Emmett continued to watch Kai, his eyes sparkling in amusement. Sure, he was impressed--he always was--but it was just to funny how Kai was oblivious to his surroundings sometimes, even when Emmett was clearly standing right there. He set off a timer in his head, counting down the time until Kai noticed him. The bell tower was filled with sweet music, but just as Emmett was getting absorbed into it, the music was cut off abruptly and he looked up just in time to see Kai jump in surprise. Seeing that, Emmett laughed, holding his stomach from the hilarious situation. "Aww, c'mon. Fine, I'll stop when you give me a new reaction. But from the looks of it, it's not happening anytime soon," he joked, his eyes mischieviously.
Kai was literally the only person Emmett could trust wholeheartedly without having to worry if he was going to be he was going to be turned on and abandoned. Since he was little, Emmett had strong abandonment issues. Because of that, he never really trusted anyone and pushed them away, no matter how strongly he yearned for company. He isolated himself from the world, but Kai, who was vastly different to himself, was the only person who could push through that wall of steel. Of course there were times that they clashed and don't understand each other because of their opposite personalities, but somehow that was the one thing that strongly held them together. They were each other's balance in this world.
"But it's so much fun watching you get scared," he laughed, his tone almost complaining. "Besides, I'm teaching you valuable lessons about war. From what I've picked up with your lack of sensory for your surroundings, you aren't going to survive," Emmett joked. It was half true. "I just woke up," he said, yawning to confirm it. "Can't expect me to sleep the whole day away, you know. Although I'd like to." Dreamland was always so much better than reality. Much less annoying people, and just less people in general. Emmett's phobia proved to be dangerous more than once, and he hated showing that kind of vulnerablity to everyone. Thankfully Kai is the only one who knows about it. "Can't blame me." Emmett flashed Kai a smile. "Wouldn't want me collapsing on the floor now, would you?" The Academy was usually busy, even during the weekends. Students were there every where he went, and collapsing was reality, unfortunately. Some days he'd be fine--be able to go out, to an extent of course, but others, even when there were just a few people in crowd, he'd suffer a panic attack. His phobia was unpredictable, so Emmett liked to play it safe. "How about you?" Emmett asked, a smirk on his face as he turned toward Kai. "You plan to play the violin all day in the bell tower?" He stretched his hands out in front of him, jokingly nudging Kai. "As it the bell itself wasn't annoying."

Kai safely placed his prized violin in its case and carefully closed and locked the case. That violin had been on of the final gifts he had received from his father before he had passed away and thus he always took great care with it. It meant far to much to him to get damaged so he was always very careful with it. This was part of the reason why he didn't liked getting surprised out of the chance that he were to accidentally drop or hit his violin. Then again he may just be over thinking it and being way to overprotective but so sue him.
He chuckled as he straightened himself out. "I'm happy that my fear brings you such amusement." he said sarcastically. "Of course I won't survive because you're going to scare me half to death. And as for my lack of sensory, you better than anyone know that I can't be easily surprised....except when I'm playing of course." he said the last part softly under his breath. Playing was his biggest weakness and no one knew that better or took advantage of that more than Emmett. They were so different on many levels and could clash because of their differences but at the same time that was definitely what kept them so close. It was rather odd that Kai was afraid of thunderstorms and yet his best friend was a thunder. Then again Kai had a friend who was also afraid of thunderstorms and yet was falling for a thunder. Whatever the reason Kai and Emmett made it work. They were perfect balances for each other. They could trust each other without fear of being used or hurt. They could count on each other completely.
Kai was aware of his Emmett's phobia. He hated what it did to his best friend. "Of course I don't but at the same time it may be healthy to actually step out into the big bad world at least once a year." he said teasingly. He knew that Emmett didn't do good with crowds and such but he didn't want the phobia to completely control Emmett's life. One day he may find Emmett locked up in some tower hiding away from the world. Kai just smiled and chuckled at Emmett's playfulness. "I guess you've just grown immune to it considering how many times you've heard me play." he said as he playfully nudged Emmett in return. "Actually I was planning on going into town. You know, get away from the castle for a while. Live a little." he said casually. "Maybe catch a movie. Get some ice cream. I was thinking of asking my best friend to come with me but not sure if he would be willing. What do you think? Would it be worth asking?" he asked hopefully. Kai knew not to push the subject. It wasn't like he asked Emmett to go to town all the time but Kai thought that it was good for him to go out at least every once in a blue moon. That way Emmett wouldn't go mad staying in the castle but of course Kai would never force Emmett to do something, especially when it involved his phobia. He would politely asked but if Emmett was adamant about it he would respectfully drop it until the another time arose.

Emmett looked on with slight jealousy as he watched Kai put away his violin. He remembered that Kai told him his father had given to him, just before he had passed away. Emmett's father never really did anything for him, heck he hadn't seen him or his mother in almost nine years. Emmett guessed he was just jealous that Kai had a good relationship with his parents--something that he never had, or at least, never had the chance to.
"You should be. Where else would I get my entertainment if you weren't?" he joked. The look on Kai's face when he scared him was priceless. "If you die of a heart attack it wouldn't be my fault," Emmett reasoned, his face half-serious, half-joking. "Gotta blame your weak heart. It's a two-in-one training: I'm helping your war skills, and I'm testing out the health of your heart." Emmett patted Kai on the shoulder, laughing. "When you keel over, than you know it's time to work out." He then patted Kai on the stomach, a small smirk on his face. It was always easy to smile and joke around when he was with Kai. Kai never judged him, and that was one of the personality traits that was vastly different than Emmett's. 'Course, Emmett never had to judge Kai for everything. He was a...nice guy, for a lack of better vocabularly. That and Emmett was never too good with handing out compliments. Kai was his best friend, it should be a big enough compliment on its own. He laughed softly, rolling his eyes at his own ego. There were plenty of people who didn't get their friendship, and sometimes, Emmett was too. But he never dwelled on it too much, because they were friends. Some of the best things in life didn't need a reason.
"Pfft." Emmett scoffed. "I'm not some cave monster, you know. Besides, I'm doing just fine without the world." Whether it was ignorance or just plain indifference, Emmett fully believed he didn't need the world. It was full of people that would eventually lead to his own downfall, and even though it was a cynical way of thinking, it was the cruel reality for Emmett. Simple as that. He knew that Kai was just looking out for him, but Emmett knew that not even his best friend would understand the pain. "I guess." He shrugged, a sheepish smile on his lips. In truth, he was envious of his friend's musical skills and often wished he could acquire such talent and dedication. It was one of the unspoken admirations he had for Kai. "Ah, town." From the moment Kai spoke, he knew where the conversation was going. Honestly Emmett felt kind of guilty. They really couldn't go out and just hang out with each other without any worries that Emmett would pass out, or that his breathing would become too hard and uneven, or maybe that his heartbeat becomes too erratic to the point that he has to go to the hospital or something. He was nonchalant about it, but it was terrifying to think that he might just drop to the ground without any warning. "Since when did I become your girlfriend?" he asked playfully, trying to lighten up. When was the last time he and Kai just went to town to hang out, instead of lazing around at the Academy? Emmett bit his lip, ready to refuse, but he looked up at Kai, his eyes hopeful. Emmett scowled, then sighed in defeat. "Fine." He gave Kai a lopsided smile before slapping him on the shoulder roughly. "It's not fair," Emmett joked. "You have puppy eyes."

Kai rolled his eyes and let out a small chuckle at Emmett's retort. This was how it always was with them. Playful teasing. Their friendship definitely wasn't boring. When one would say something the other would come back with some kind of response but they never had to worry about the other one getting hurt since they knew it was all in good fun and they knew which lines not to cross. Almost two years of getting to know each other had gotten them to this point and of course they were always learning more everyday which never made their relationship dull.
"So you only hang around me for entertainment purposes? I'm hurt Emmett." he said placing a hand on his heart and giving him a fake hurt expression before giggling a bit. He knew their relationship meant more than that so he just enjoyed messing with Emmett. Kai just listened with curiosity as Emmett explained his reasoning. "So let me get this straight." he said as he began to summarize what Emmett had said. "So by scaring me whenever you have the chance you are getting your entertainment, improving my war skills and health but if ever I die of fright after one of your surprises it would be completely my fault because I didn't prepare myself. Did I get that right?" he said looking at Emmett to make sure he hadn't missed anything. "How I was lucky enough to get a friend like you I will never know Emmett." he said in a sarcastic tone.
It definitely amused Kai how much their personalities clashed. Kai himself was very kind and sometimes could be very shy and timid especially when he was around certain types of people. He wasn't a pushover but he wasn't the most aggressive person. When he was around Emmett though he didn't feel that way. He didn't have reason to feel shy, worried, or afraid of anything. No need to fear getting pushed around or picked on. Of course Emmett did pick on Kai sometimes but that wasn't out of foul intention. It was all playful fun so it wasn't the same. He just smiled at Emmett. "Never said you were." he fully understood Emmett's phobia. There were many things he didn't understand about Emmett and his past but Kai knew enough to push his luck. He chuckled though at Emmett's girlfriend. "If you were my girlfriend I think that would mean that I wasn't dating you for your looks." he said sarcastically, giving Emmett a playful nudge. "Kidding aside though, is it wrong to want to hang out with my best friend somewhere outside of the giant castle." he said lightly, not wanting to make the conversation to heavy.
Kai prepared himself for a refusal. He always did. He didn't get his hopes up and instead started thinking about something they could do in the castle. So you could imagine his surprise when he heard the word he had not been expecting. His eyes shot open with a wide grin. "Really? Yes." He had done it. At least for today he would have Emmett off the campus grounds, even if only for a little while. His smile just grew at Emmett's next comment. "It's my best quality. They tend to get me what I want. " he said pridefully. Kai was suddenly overcome with excitement. "This is great. What do you want to do? We could catch a movie or something." he said spouting ideas. "And whenever you want to come home we can catch the next bus back asap." he said immediately making sure that his friend knew that he was thankful that Emmett had agreed but he would not be forced to do anything.

Emmett laughed, rolling his eyes. "Good," he said, his eyes joking. "You gotta learn how to deal with the pain. Reality is cruel." He was only half-joking, but inside he truly meant it--at least, reality-is-cruel part. Whenever he thought about Kai, Emmett always thought of him as fragile and innocent. Maybe it was only somewhat true, but this was the kind of thing where Emmett got protective of his best friend. Okay, so he was slightly exaggerating, but c'mon, it wasn't far from the truth. Kai was a nice person and could totally be the kind of person where he was often taken advantage of. Emmett would protect him from that. He knew Kai wasn't weak but...it bugged him. A lot. "Hmm. Precisely," he agreed, flashing a smile. "Aren't I wonderful?" he boasted, plopping an arm around the wind's shoulder. But with Kai's next comment, Emmett let out a laugh and put his best friend into the noogie-ing position. "Should be thankful," he joked as he ruffled Kai's hair into a mess before letting him go from his arm lock.
Emmett couldn't really remember the first day they met. Had it been during the beginning of 9th grade? Or near the ending? Perhaps middle? It was fuzzy, but he clearly remembered being slightly put off by the wind, as he was with most people. It had taken a lot of time for them to be friends, let alone best friends, but Emmett could now say he was thankful towards Kai, more than words could express. "But you fully implied it," he said, his lips in a pout. Emmett cringed soon after, his lips back into a smirk. He really couldn't stand acting cute. After all, it really didn't match him at all. "And I don't always stay cooped up," Emmett corrected. "I have my days. And, it's better safe then sorry," he said jokingly. Emmett never really stayed serious when talking about his phobia. He felt like if he did, it was just like giving into the vulnerability, and that just didn't appeal to him. "Ha-ha, very funny." Emmett nudged him back, his eyes glaring at Kai. "I guess not," he admitted. "It's been a while since I've been dragged around town. Just call me your rag doll."
The thunder smiled at his best friend's reaction. His face looked like a little child's on Christmas and suddenly Emmett felt a twinge of guilt tugging at him. He never didn't want to hang out with Kai. But now Emmett realized how much he probably gave his best friend that idea. "Well aren't you a spoiled one," Emmett laughed. He pinched Kai's cheeks. "I have a feeling you're the type older women fall for," he joked, but it wasn't far from the truth. "Calm your horses, Kai." He was so excited it looked like he would barf rainbows, but Emmett couldn't help but smile genuinely. "Whatever is fine," Emmett admitted, amused at his best friend's spouting of ideas. "But you're buying me all the ice cream I want."

Kai's smile didn't falter at Emmett's words. He was used to comments like this from the thunder. Kai only assumed that when Emmett spoke like this was because of his own experiences. Kai never pushed for Emmett to talk about his past. That was personal and something that a lot of people like to talk about, especially if it wasn't exactly the happiest times in their lives. Of course some didn't mind as much as others but Kai knew when to push and when to just let go. What kind of friend would he be if he didn't? Of course in his voice Kai believed in part he was joking but he wouldn't surprised if he was speaking in truth in some ways.
When Emmett caught him in the arm lock Kai struggled to get out of it but in reality he had no shot. Physically Emmett was stronger than Kai so Kai really had no chance of getting out but that didn't mean he'd give up without a fight. When Emmett did finally release him he just laughed and looked at his friend. "You sir think too highly of yourself." he said in a teasing tone. Kai didn't have great physical strength. He was slender but not really any muscle. He wasn't an athlete or anything. He was a violinist and this violinist didn't really do physical. So basically in a fight Kai was surely to loose. That was probably why Emmett and their friend Isabella were rather protective of him.
When Kai looked back on their friendship it would make him smile. There was no way they had hit it off at first. Way to different to have been able to become friends so soon. They had met in the middle of their ninth grade year. First year of the academy. They had a few classes together and were force to work with each other. It was a rough start but they were able to work through their differences and somehow in the process they were able to form some kind of friendship. They found themselves hanging out a bit more and more until they found themselves being relying on each other more and more. He remember talking about Emmett with a fellow wind one day. When that wind say something about the thunder Kai remembered saying, 'hey, that's my best friend you're talking about.' and that was it. The connection had been made. Kai doesn't know how or when Emmett may have but Kai knew that the bond had been made the more Emmett smiled around him. And it wasn't just them. There was also the inclusion of another. They were a sort of trio. A little three musketeers you could say. The third being a certain female fire that had earned her way into them. Isabella Mizushima.
"Oh Emmett I would never drag you. I'd pull you around but would never drag you." he said teasingly. Of course when Emmett agreed to go Kai couldn't hold back his excitement and he was beginning to get carried away. Kai swatted Emmett's hands softly. "Of course they'd love me, especially when I can serenade them with my violin. And you're good then maybe I be a kind friend and teach you the ways of swaying women with music. " he said with a light chuckle. When Emmett had calmed Kai down he hadn't lost his smile. "You can count on it. Why don't we invite Isabella? I'm sure she'd love to come."

Emmett laughed at Kai's struggles. It was established that the thunder was much stronger than the wind, so Kai's attempts at trying to break free were pretty much futile. It was still funny though. "Pride is man's greatest gift," he said, sneaking a glance at Kai before rolling his eyes. "You know, I think you've gotten weaker since the last time." He started poking Kai in random places. "Do I have to train you muscle-wise too?" Emmett then sighed, feigning exhaustion. "Being your best friend is tiring," he joked, but he was honestly worried about him. There were a lot of bullies at the Academy, and even though Kai was a wind, him being best friends with a thunder and a fire really didn't sit well with the earths and waters. Maybe next time he could convince Isabella to get Kai into shape or something. That was hilarious enough in itself, considering how Isabella was also pretty tiny...geez, he had some short friends.
He knew for sure that he and Kai didn't get along at first. Looking back on it, no one really would've thought that they would end up friends--let alone best friends. Emmett just knew that it was Kai who opened up first. Probably one of the biggest reasons they became friends. Emmett was never good with people (with tolerating them, yes, but that's a whole different story), so he was thankful for the wind's naturally kind nature. But it still unsettled Emmett. It wasn't hard to take advantage of Kai, he knew from experience, but he was just joking. Others, however...
"Gee, thanks. Shall I get the leash so it'd be easier?" he asked sarcastically. "A collar and everything." Emmett put his hands out in front of him, his face serious and void of emotion. "Woof woof." It wouldn't be far from the truth. With Kai and Isabella, they were sociable and adventurous types, so they'd often want to go to town whenever there were breaks available. Emmett? He'd rather take a nap and be hidden from the world. "Psh, I don't need your help, thank you very much." Oh gosh, the thought of Kai teaching him to pick up girls? Emmett felt like facepalming at that very second.
"Isabella? Yea, sure," he agreed, a somewhat fatherly smile approaching his lips. Along with Kai, Isabella is also his best friend. She was short, tiny, and full of happiness and joy, which reminded him how different she and Kai were from the thunder. It hadn't really bothered him before, but the thought of it was really interesting. Opposites attracted, he guessed? Emmett wasn't sure if he was suffering from amnesia but he honestly couldn't remember how they'd met either. He clearly remembered though, of how he reacted to her at first. It was the same case with Kai, how he was put off with him. She was everything he despised--a happy, bright person who always looked on the positive side of things. Emmett could say she started rubbing off on him and gathered older brother type feelings for her, even though they were in the same grade. He imagined Kai was completely smitten with her, though. Kai literally got along with everyone.

"It is also man's greatest downfall." he said when he was finally released from Emmett's grasp. When the thunder started randomly poking him he couldn't help but let out a few laughs in between when he swatted his hands away. "What are you my personal trainer too?" he asked as his laughter subsided. Kai gave Emmett a smile and disbelieving look. "I'm sorry you have such a daunting task. But you do realize that you that being your best friend is no piece of cake. And that's not even counting Isabella." he said with a teasing voice. With Kai being a wind following alliances weren't a necessity for him. When it came to things like befriending, disliking, or dating he didn't necessary have a rule of who fell under these titles. Of course though they sort of came with the territory. He had a few friends who were waters and earths but his best friends were a thunder and fire. So that didn't sit well with some but he could care less what they thought. It wasn't like they were going to stop the way he felt. If it earned him a few unwanted pranks well then so be it. Of course it wasn't like he was completely defenseless and although he wasn't much of a fighter they would have Emmett and Isabella to deal with. Those two together could make a rather deadly force if truly pushed.
It of course took patience sometimes to put up with Emmett. He knew that he exerted a lot of it when they first started out with it but in the end it had been worth. After all look where they were now. Back then Emmett could just tolerate Kai, now they enjoyed each others company and with Isabella it just made it more fun. At least for Kai. Isabella and Kai got along a lot quicker. They were more alike that they were a bit more open when it came to other people, unlike Emmett who had a harder time opening up to people. He smiled at Emmett when he acted like a dog. "Oh I'm sure Isabella would love that." he rolled Kai rolled his eyes at his friend. "Oh you're right. I'm sure you can find a ton of girls who find the 'I'd rather stay in bed all day' attitude very attractive." he said saracastically.
Kai grew even more excited when Emmett agreed to have Isabella tag along. "Great. I'll give her a call later. I'm sure she'll be more than happy to come, especially since it'll be the three of us this time." Isabella was definitely a ball of energy which he loved. It could be too much for Emmett but Isabella meant well. Kai would admit to himself that he had bit of a crush on her but it was nothing really. This was his best friend after all. Plus her brother would probably be his teacher next year. Isabella's brother Hiro was a really great guy, especially being an older fire. Once people had graduated from the academy it was a bit harder to know how people would act now that the alliances weren't shoved down your throats anymore. Some people didn't change and some people did. Some people could become much more tolerant of each other while others still very much despised specific elements. From what he knew about Hiro the fire teacher was very much tolerant of all elements, treating his students equally regardless of element which was something he admired.

Emmett waved his hand in the air. "Details, details." Emmett had a huge ego, mostly because of his abilities, and he embraced it. It's not like he flaunts it in every body's faces on a regular basis (because he really hated people like that). Usually it was just when he was joking, and that happened a lot when Emmett was around Kai. "Aww, you know you love us," he teased, ruffling Kai's hair again. He figured that he and Isabella were a handful, but Kai was extremely patient with the two, no matter how crazy they got. Emmett then felt a twinge of guilt. When was the last time they all got together? He felt like it was his fault that they didn't meet up often. Another reason why he Emmett hated his phobia so much--it restricted him, like iron chains. Kai and Isabella knew better than to bring it up to the thunder, but there were just some times where Emmett wanted them to speak up about it, especially when it affected their friendship.
Emmett dropped his hands, cringing at himself. "Ugh, remind me never to do that again." He shook his head, but then he slowly turned to Kai with narrowed eyes. "Don't bring that up with Bella. She'll get weird ideas." Emmett shivered. He was sure that it'd probably wouldn't happen, but something told him that she'd seriously consider giving Emmett a dog collar. The thunder rolled his eyes at Kai's next comment. But he did have a point."Again, too many details," he repeated, waving his hand. "And I'm doing very fine without your help, thank you very much." Emmett cut of abruptly, closing his mouth and turning away slightly. He hadn't meant for it to slip, but he guess it couldn't be helped. Emmett shared almost everything with Kai and Isabella...but he wanted to wait to tell them about Karlee, a fire who was a year old than him. They hadn't exactly met on good terms, but after awhile, they just seemed to click. And besides, another reason why Emmett didn't tell Kai about her sooner was because he knew for sure he'd get teased about it.
Kai at this point was literally bouncing off the walls with excitement. It was kind of adorable in a way that made Emmett roll his eyes with a smile on his face. "Yay. The three of us," he repeated, throwing his hands up limply to show his enthusiasm. Emmett laughed, shaking his head, before nudging Kai a little bit. "Now, what's this? Even I don't have Bella's number." He smirked, his eyebrows raised as if he was implying something. Emmett was just joking around, but he wouldn't be surprised if Kai felt something for Isabella. The way the two acted around each other was just...different. And Emmett knew this better than anybody. When they usually hung out, he would be following behind them as he watched his friends. Emmett was very observant, so every little action and side glance was taken into account. He wasn't an expert in romance, but he wasn't an idiot either.

Kai just rolled his eyes at Emmett. Kai was well aware of the thunder's ego but never held it against him. It wasn't like that the was the only side to Emmett after all and Kai knew that better than most people. Plus it wasn't like he saw it all the time. Well, then again he normally saw Emmet like this when he was around so it kind of was a lot of the time but Kai never took it to heart. He always saw it as playful and just who Emmett was so he didn't think anything of it. He just scrunched his nose when Emmett ruffled his hair. "Of course I do. How else would I be able to put up with you guys if I didn't." he said playfully. He loved his friends dearly. That was why he put up with them so much. This wasn't to say that they were troublesome. Yes, sometimes they could be a bit of a handful. It wasn't like they had the same personality. Quite the opposite really. Kai's own personality matched more with Isabella's than Emmett but they always made it work.
He gave Emmett a mischievous look "Oh I can just picture her now. Trying to find the perfect collar that can bring out your eyes." he said giving Emmett a playful poke. Kai took advantage when it came to teasing Emmett. He was pretty sure that not many people could get away with it. Yes, he probably shouldn't take advantage of it so much but at the same time he couldn't help it. It wasn't like he went overboard. Of course he knew the limits and knew when not to cross certain lines. "Oh she would have a field day with." he said chuckling at the thought. He wouldn't tell Isabella of course but that that would be a nice little piece of information that may come in handy if ever needed to get Emmett to do something. He was shameless for even thinking of blackmailing his best friend. Oh well he thought with a bit of a mischievous smile. "It's not my fault you don't have her number." he said gently.
After another second Emmett's earlier words "Doing fine on your own?" he said softly, repeating the thunder's earlier words. He turned his gaze to meet the thunder's with a curious look. "What's that suppose to mean? Wait a minute, do you me...did you meet someone?" he asked, holding back his enthusiasm. He didn't want to look overly excited if what he thought was true since that would put Emmett from telling him anything. Even if he was on the verge of bursting with excitement on the inside.

Emmett didn't know why, but he felt blood rush into his cheeks when Kai spoke again, which was definitely the first for the thunder. Sure, of course they were best friends, but hearing it aloud (the loving part), no matter how playful it was--was just, weird? Relieving? Emmett wasn't a very expressive person, so he turned his head, a smile tugging at his lips. "You better," he grumbled, nudging Kai. He barely could look at the wind due to his awkwardness (and...shyness of the subject?), but what else could he say? Emmett didn't know why this comment made him flustered in the first place. He was the one who brought it up, right? Emmett sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. He figured it had to do with him not getting used to the feeling of "love." In this case, the friendship kind. Emmett had been used to being alone all the time, that he never realized how much he was missing by having good friends. "Aren't you glad you found us?" he asked, glancing at Kai from the side, before leaning out against the window. If anything, Emmett was the one who should be glad--down on his knees, thanking fate for letting him meet the two most amazing people in his life.
Groaning, Emmett buried his head into his hands just at the thought of Isabella buying him something as silly as a collar. But it would be something she'd do, just to spite him. "You tell her and I'll send you to the nurse's office," he threatened, but being serious with Kai was like being cheerful in a crowd of strangers--it just didn't happen, and Emmett once again put Kai in a headlock, laughing. The Academy's nurse was a very...strange person, at least Emmett thought so. He didn't appreciate the way he tried putting "the moves" on Emmett; it freaked him out, just a little. Emmett visited enough times (darn phobia!) that he had gotten used to it, but that didn't mean he enjoyed it. "Uh-huh..." Emmett said slowly, as if he wasn't convinced. He smirked, elbowing Kai repeatedly while raising his eyebrows. Emmett stayed quiet however; if Kai wanted to tell him anything than he would, but otherwise the thunder wouldn't push. It was highly recommended that he did though. Emmett wasn't too fond of over-analyzing something that probably wasn't true. But he saw the way they looked at each other; it was more than likely.
Emmett was about to sigh in relief. They had passed his slip-up and were moving on--at least he thought they were until Kai repeated what Emmett had said earlier. "Ah, crap..." he mumbled to himself, and sure enough, Kai turned to him and asked the dreaded question that Emmett knew he had to answer, or he wasn't going to hear the end of it. Emmett rolled his eyes, patting Kai on the shoulder. He could practically feel the excitement radiating from the wind, how could he deny his best friend something like this, but Emmett decided to drag it out a bit longer just to spite Kai. Oh, how he loved doing that. "Yup. Just yesterday I met someone who plays the guitar. Oh, and the day before that, I met someone who hates my guts, but who doesn't? Oh, and how can I forget..." Emmett rambled on, a smirk on his lips. There was no harm in prolonging the suspense.

It wasn't hard to understand Kai. He had people he cared about and such but there were three people in the world that he considered the most important. At the top of his list was his mother. No one would ever take her place no matter how hard they may tried. Behind his mother was his two best friends, Emmett and Isabella. He could say that things had started off on better terms with Isabella than they did with Emmett but none the less they had grown to be very important to Kai and he had no shame in showing it. So in this case he didn't even think twice when he admitted to loving, in a friendship way, Emmett and Isabella. So he didn't even notice Emmett's reaction to his proclamation. Oh I'm overjoyed. Can't you tell?" he said with a smile before looking out the window again. The sun was setting on the horizon which was forming a beautiful picture of nature which he couldn't deny was beautiful. The wind was soft as it blew over the world and all was peaceful. "I'm sure the same can be said for you. Where would you be without me and Isabella?" he said looking out into the sunset. He meant it as a joke which why he didn't look at Emmett for an answer.
Kai looked at Emmett with a smirk and unconvinced looked at the thunder's "threat." "I'd like to see you try. You couldn't hurt me that bad even if you wanted to." he said teasingly. Although Emmett may not show it all the time, Kai knew that the thunder cared for him and Isabella greatly and would never intentionally. The fact that they were all still young and learning control it could be expected that sometimes they could loose said control a tiny bit which was why Kai wasn't scared of the threat. "But you have my word that I won't tell a soul.....for now." he added in with a smile. Emmett had no worries but that didn't mean he wouldn't tease the guy about it. Kai rolled his eyes at Emmett's insinuation. In truth, he would admit to himself that he had a slight crush on Isabella but their friendship was far more important and he wouldn't want to do anything to ruin that. "Someone's gotta keep Bella inform on our favorite thunder. If you asked nicely she would be more than happy to give you her number." he said nudging him again.
Kai was not about to let Emmett's revelation go. It was obviously a slip of the tongue by the thunder but Kai would not let it stay like that. Emmett? Their little loner of a thunder, might have met someone that he actually may show some interest in? When did this happen? It was obvious that Emmett was trying to keep it under wraps from Kai and Isabella but Kai was not going to let that stand. Of course Emmett wouldn't make it that easy. Kai groaned and whined like a kid who had just had his favorite toy taken away. "Emmett. You know that's not what I meant. You can't just let something like that slip and get away with it. I promise I won't tell Isabella but you gotta give your best friend the details. Please." Kai said with his puppy dog eyes. Kai was oozing with curiosity and excitement. Neither of them were going anywhere until Emmett shared his story.
