Seeing people who had such pretty smiles not smile confused Avery. He was a cheery person himself and pretty much always had a smile on his face, so he thought it was natural for people to be just like him--though it'd be a messed up world if that actually happened. A bunch of Avery's running around...the earth would implode because of the sheer awesome-ness. At least Avery thought it would. "Getting wrinkles on your face would be a shame," he said, nodding firmly. Skye was a pretty girl and just the image of getting wrinkles on her face solely for the reason of not smiling enough saddened Avery. He was lucky enough to not have any yet and if he were to ever get them (which was very likely) he'd throw a fit and start crying or something...in fetal position. Avery was not old, he did not want to be old, and didn't need to mature. He was still five years old mentally! Avery shook his head. "Trust me, I do." And he paused, scrunching his nose. "And I don't want to get on any bad sides! Fires in particular are scary!" he exclaimed, his eyes widening. Especially with their tempers--ugh, he couldn't deal with them without being overly sensitive with what he says. And that's hard, because there are times where things just spill out like word vomit. "That's what I'm here for~" he said, nodding once with a smile. And this is what he liked most about his job. Receiving the thanks.
"No, no, it's fine!" Avery was still trying to get over the initial shock of the whole "joke"--mostly because he almost had a heart attack. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration, but it sure felt like it. He'd feel bad if she was actually an earth and felt offended that he mistook her as a thunder. Earths were soft spots for Avery, considering how fragile and peaceful they seemed. It was like, one comment without Avery thinking clearly enough, they'd breakdown in his office because of it. Ugh, that was one of the few things that made him flustered and not know what to do. An amazing feat, actually. Considering how shameless he was. "How'd you know?" Avery asked, his whole facade vanishing in a second. It took him a moment before realizing, and he broke out into laughter. Oh man, Avery really needed acting lessons or something--because this whole tricking thing was horrible. Or maybe he was just that bad with lying. "I'll...take that as a compliment~!" He figured it was probably obvious he was a water. Stereotypically, he fit just right in. His cheerfulness probably gave it away too.
With handling students, he made sure he didn't change too much around them. It wouldn't be fair if he sided with earths and waters just because he was a water himself, was it? And Avery just loved people in general. Granted, the thunders and fires scared him sometimes, but there were times where he met some worth while people. Avery couldn't judge--he was in no position to. "Umm..." Avery had to think about this for a while. His antics of course could be misinterpreted, and there were others who didn't appreciate it...and of course there were people who just dealt with it. "Okay" had so many definitions in his head right now it was unbelievable, so he shrugged. Avery still had his fellow waters. They found him absolutely hilarious. "Yup! At least I think so~" He really needed to ask his patients this more often. He didn't have any intentions to make things awkward, but that was kind of hard with his personality. "Precisely," he said, his lips in a thin line. Avery didn't like admitting he was old (maybe he wasn't and was just overexaggerating) but at least he looked young. "As long as I don't end up in bruises and scratches, I'm all for it~!" Okay, maybe that sounded a bit too excited, but at least if that happened, he could patch himself up? Heh. The perks of being the Academy's doctor nurse.

Was she really going to get wrinkles from not smiling? Skye didn't think that this was really how it worked, but fuck, she did go for long stretches sometimes without it. There wasn't always something to be happy about. The world was often a really stupid place... and Skye would deny being a cynic. She frowned a bit at this conversation. "And that's probably at least ten years too early." In ten years, she'd be thirty-one. God, that was weird. Skye really didn't like that. She was young still... even if she was getting there, about to graduate college and be done here at the Academy for good and all. Well, she didn't think she had any intentions of returning for any reason, anyway, but Skye couldn't predict the future. "Fires aren't that bad if you know how to handle them," she told him, but she understood what he meant completely. Skye just had far too much practice for her liking. Plus, she generally didn't take people's bullshit. She couldn't help but smile back at him, though -- she did have her moments too.
He still looked kind of ridiculously surprised, and she felt bad for being amused. it was too easy, though. Skye was pretty damn good at keeping a straight face. "Okay," she said, deciding that if it wasn't... well, he should say so then. She'd tried. "Other than the fact that I just did the same thing? I don't know. There's no way you're a Fire." Then again, there were some very pleasant and social Fires -- Josh's mother, her boss, was one of them -- but she couldn't peg Avery as one, not in a million years. It wasn't always that easy, though. She guessed that she'd feel horrible if he really was a Fire after all, but hey, she knew plenty of Fires. He would have been quite a different one, had it been him. "Good. You should." She wasn't sure it actually was a compliment, but it'd be pretty terrible if he took it as an insult. It wasn't bad to be a Water. Skye was sure there were totally lovely people coming out of all the elements, but then her family was a little different from some people's in terms of their respective elements.
She didn't know exactly how she felt about Avery and his flirting, almost, except that it didn't really bother her in the sense that it made her uncomfortable. It was probably lucky that he was so young, at least. it would be really weird otherwise. She wondered if he was even five years older than her. He probably had be around that age at youngest, actually, considering the fact that he must have gone to college and then medical school at some point. It was also possible that he was older and just looked so young, too... That would be nice. She'd like to look twenty-one forever, before she actually did get old. "You think?" she asked, smirking a little, but it hopefully didn't look rude or sarcastic or anything like that. She wanted to know, actually. Did it bother him if students might not be okay with it? Hey, she didn't know. "Unless you've made an enemy of too many college kids I don't think you'll have much to worry about," she assured him. "But just in case, don't draw too much attention." Skye was kind of amused. She couldn't think of any actual reason he should get hurt just popping into her class for a few minutes anyway. At this point, though, there would be a fair amount of college seniors in there, like Skye... and some of them were pretty intense with their elements. Some of the younger ones were too, actually. College was a different ball game.

How people went days without smiling was beyond Avery. Granted, he should be empathetic--he was a nurse of all things--but he just couldn't grasp the idea of it. Wasn't it tiring? Having the face just literally motionless? Avery was in no way insulting Skye, just using this as a theoretical, everyday situation. But then again, he was a hypocrite, considering his own days at the Academy. He was in a dark place at the time...ugh, he should really stop overanalyzing situations like these. It hurt his brain. "Exactly! And by the time you're like, 40, you'd look like you were 80!" That was probably another exaggeration, but Avery tended to do that sometimes. Okay, maybe all the time. But with the way his brain was programmed, it really wasn't something strange. Avery opened his mouth to say something, then shut it, then opened it again. For some reason his mind wandered off to Josh and he cracked an amused smile. Let's just say they did not get off on the right foot. Their personalities clashed, big time, and Avery was literally shaking from the intimidation. But luckily over time they got used to each other and their antics, but it seemed like it took more effort for Josh to accept Avery and his flirty waves. He couldn't blame him though, a lot of people were put off my Avery. "Oh man, now whenever I see a fire I'm just gonna have 'How to Train a Dragon' playing in my head," he said, scrunching his nose. Hey, it wasn't far off.
Avery really needed to brush up on his tricking skills. He was painfully too childish and happy to actually pull off a serious face--now, if he were really angry (which was literally an impossible sight to see)--maybe he'd manage the face. But, since making Avery angry was like making a dog meow, it wouldn't happen. Darn the inability! "So I've been told," he said defeated, his shoulders noticeably slouching. Avery was the picture perfect, stereotypical water. There was literally no way he could be mistaken otherwise or to find someone as bright as he was and in another element, let alone from the opposite alliance. Okay. So Avery made a far stretch. Didn't hurt to try? "Then thank you." He nodded once firmly, smiling widely. Avery took pride in him being a water. If he didn't that'd just be...terrible, really. Or torture. Not liking the element you were stuck with the rest of your life.
He was told (or more like scolded) more than once he should lay off the flirting with both the students and the faculty members. Apparently it was 'inappropriate' and encouraged students to be 'too comfortable' and 'disrespectful.' Bunch of bullshit! And not to be misinterpreted--he knew when to knock it off and take things seriously. He wasn't entirely irresponsible, nor did he want to create any harm amongst the school. It was just harmless flirting! He didn't mean much of it. It wasn't like he scoped out all the underaged students and gathered them together to flirt and throw his affection on. Yeesh. They talked to him as if Avery was a potential pedophile. "Okay I don't," he admitted, Avery's face scrunching up distastefully. "At least they haven't egged my office or something," He really didn't know if the students minded, but it looked like they didn't. Most of them found Avery hilarious more than anything, actually. "Not draw attention? I'm in my doctor's coat," Avery pointed out, honestly wishing he had left it in his office. But that itself wasn't going to stop all the college kids from recognizing him. Actually, Avery knew a good portion of them. He just wondered how'd they react. And he never really saw them outside the office...could this potentially be awkward? Avery hoped not. "But, I will try~" He nodded, just as determined as a little kid reaching up for the cookie jar.

It wasn't so much that Skye never smiled, but she was just... not a naturally happy person -- and it wasn't to say that she was unhappy, far from it, but she was just satisfied with life, and there was no reason to get all excited over that. She definitely wasn't like Avery, but on the whole, people that fucking excitable got on her nerves. Then again, her life would be really miserable without a couple of them around, not that she saw much of this within her own alliance. Many of them were probably just as... aloof. "I don't even want to be forty, let alone look eighty," she said, the distaste evident in her voice. Hell, Skye didn't even want to look forty. It wasn't like her appearance was the only thing she ever cared about -- far from it -- but she still felt she was too young to have to worry about that kind of ridiculousness. Almost twenty-one was still young, right? She was pretty sure it was, even if all these kids made her feel ancient or something. Skye actually laughed a bit when he mentioned the movie, though. "Not totally inaccurate. With the dungeons as their nest. Though these guys are probably harder to train than dragons," she pointed out. If she had to choose between a dragon or a couple particularly nasty Fires, even Skye would probably choose the dragon any day.
"Anytime." Was it really a compliment if it was just essentially an honest fact? Skye wasn't about to tell him that it wasn't, anyway, but she'd meant it in a... decent enough way as it was. She smirked a little as he admitted that in fact they might not always be okay with it, but honestly she'd be a little bit worried if all of them reacted well. Even Skye had wanted to sideeye the fuck out of Avery when she'd come in, and she was very much a legal adult (though still a student, which would make it extremely weird if it were serious in any way). Then again... she could kind of see the humour in it, and admittedly she was in a better mood now that she was sure that her wrist wasn't about to completely fail and crap out on her. Plus, she needed to keep that all under check. Skye didn't try to go around scaring people... at least not on a daily basis. She couldn't help it if people sometimes needed to be reminded that they weren't god's gifts to the human race. "That's true. Or reported you. At least I hope not." She didn't think that anytihng he'd done (to her, personally) warranted actually being reported, but then again Skye... wasn't necessarily the best judge. "Then just try not to look at any of the Thunders too weirdly, I guess," she said with a smirk. They weren't as temperamental as the Fires, but she still wouldn't put it past one of her own to tear Avery a new one. "Though I guess the coat really is a tip-off." She wondered how imperative it actually was that he wear it now when he wasn't even in the office, but she didn't question it. Maybe the man just liked his coat.
She steered them down a couple of hallways, figuring that she knew the location of her own class more than Avery did to be sure, and then stopped in front of one of the rooms, gesturing to indicate that this was the one before opening it and entering with him. They still had a few minutes left before the class actually started, she could tell by the clock on the wall, but there were already a few students milling around. None of them really paid much attention to her. "So, uh... If you need to do your whole doctor thing I guess now's the time," she said kind of lamely, nodding in the direction of her professor's desk, where the man was sitting.
(uhhh, we can probably end this in your post or mine after, whichever you prefer? :3 sorry for the total lameness of the last paragraph, lol.)

Exaggerating stuff was one of Avery's forte. This was one of the situations, but smiling--he couldn't imagine a life without it. It was probably unfair for him to even point it out at all, considering he didn't know of Skye's current living situation, what her life was like--he didn't know anything about her except that her name was Skye Ford and she was thunder graduate in college. "I'm on board with you on that one," he agreed, nodding his head excessively. He didn't think anyone wanted to be old and if they did, they were weird. To be honest, Avery wished he froze at the age of twenty. He wasn't exactly an adult, but he also wasn't a teenager at that age. Just become Peter Pan or something. That sounded appealing, really. With growing up came responsibilities, and that scared him because he still had the mental age of a child. "Very true. And with dragons you don't have to worry about saying the wrong things and setting them off." Avery shuddered. He sometimes had a hard time thinking before he acted, so it was safe to say that he and fires didn't get along too well. Thunders, too, but they were a little less quick to anger than the fires, which he was thankful for. Otherwise right now with Skye would be ten times harder than it should be.
Avery grinned cheekily at her. Waters were generally nice and friendly people, so to be confirmed as a water made him...happy? Whatever it was, he was thankful. He liked being called friendly even if it wasn't intentional--but it was implied! And that was good enough for him. Avery returned Skye's smirk, biting on his tongue to roll his eyes. Most students had the same reaction; ask if he did this with other students, how they reacted, etc. He didn't know what was so amusing about it, but he guessed it was fight their own uncomfortable state when with Avery. He understood, he was a handful to deal with sometimes, but Avery really didn't think it was bad. It's not like he tied them down or some kinky shit like that. Just some harmless flirting, really. Avery thought of it as a confidence booster for people. Didn't everyone like being complicated? He sure did, so why not spread the happiness? "Reported?" Avery repeated, confused for a brief moment before he laughed. "I'm not that bad, am I?" he asked, laughing again. Hmm, he wasn't sure if he wanted to hear that answer, actually. "Oh, you don't need to tell me that." Avery was actually pretty afraid of the thunders and fires (something he picked up in his Academy days when he was bullied), so Skye didn't need to remind him.
Avery followed Skye silently, eyes wandering and scanning the halls. They were so empty, except for a few students running late or teachers who didn't have class that period. It was strangely peaceful. Kind of. He wasn't sure actually, he hated emptiness and would much rather be put in a room full of people than in one alone. But the silence was nice. "Gotcha~!" he exclaimed. He hadn't said it particularly loud, but considering that there were only a few students in the class, his voice seemed to echo, making him receive a few annoyed looks from students. Upon further inspection he hadn't really recognized any of them but that didn't stop him from flashing a grin as he walked to the professors desk, waving. Avery hadn't talked to him before, only saw him a few times in the hall ways, and so he talked in a hushed voice, explaining Skye's condition to the professor. He figured she didn't want him talking loudly and blabbing all about how she possibly sprained her wrist--as if the sling wasn't a dead giveaway, but Avery did have a little sense.
After a few minutes of back and forth, Avery finally finished, flashing a cheeky grin and a thumbs up at Skye as he passed her to go back to his office. It was rather unwilling though, because he enjoyed the company, but it'd be weird if the school nurse just stayed in the class or something. So Avery shrugged, heading out, but not before stopping right in front of the door and turning around, exclaiming, "Have fun, Skye~! Remember, do not strain your wrist or you'd have to visit me more often." He gave Skye a stern gaze, though moments after he broke out into a grin. "Bye~!" And he left, oblivious to the obviously annoyed glares he received from the students. Hey, Avery was a naturally bright person. It wasn't his fault they decided to be in class early; but at least they received a ray of sunshine into their day!
[we can end it here<3]
