The conversation certainly could have turned serious if they allowed it to; Devin knew Josh well enough to know that it could very well have gone in that direction if he let it. Too bad Devin was not really the sort to do that. "Right?" It was a scary thought. Come to think of it, he didn't like very many insects so imagining any of them trying to take over the world was not exactly the best image. If he could get away with jumping up in a chair at the sight of a big ass cockroach scuttling across the floor, he would. Fortunately he did not have a problem like that at home, or he would be an emotional mess every time he came across the crunchy critters.
"It's a serious thing, Josh. You really have no idea." Devin nodded and looked serious for a split second before cracking a grin. The kid would not do well as an actor, really. He could not hold a serious expression for very long when he was joking around and making light of things. Sometimes it was good, other times it was bad. People might assume he was taking light of things that were serious, even when he wasn't. Devin was just a naturally upbeat person and tended to cheer people up by making jokes. Not everyone appreciated that of course and that could cause a little upset. He did not intend to change though. That would take a lot of effort anyway. Ugh. Effort. It made him tired just thinking about it. He really was the epitome of laziness. It was a wonder he even managed to get shit done.
Devin refrained from fidgeting around where he sat as all of the possibilities formed themselves in his head. Vegas. For his birthday. With his best friend. It was like a fat kid getting their favorite cake and being told they could eat it all in one go. How delicious! "Well then, Mr. Vegas," Devin teased, wiggling his eyebrows in anticipation. "You can take me to some of the places you enjoyed. And we will live it up like kings and have all sorts of good fun." He thought of maybe drifting away from Josh for a short time to see some of the 'dancers' but Sandra popped into his head and a wave of guilt shoved that urge away rather quickly. It was not really a bad thing but it felt as though she were unintentionally haunting his conscience or something. I should still go. It was not like he and Sandra were anything but friends and maybe it wasn't anything anyway. Fleeting. Maybe. He did not like this uncertainty. "Okay! I hope she does. It'll be a good mini vacation." A bit of time away from school, work, and everything else he supposed.
He was probably just as worried--if not more so--than Joshua was when the fire came at him and he tossed the wall up between them. It was hard to retain his focus but the chance at faltering with his wall of dirt would be likely and that could not happen. Not if he wanted to keep his skin in tact. "You were worried?" Devin chuckled nervously after the fire dissipated. "I was actually able to catch a whiff of turkey." Nah, not really. He was a bit worried that the wall would not hold at first though. Luckily it did. "Thanks though! Hopefully I'll become like...super Earth master or something." Haha yeah like that would happen. This was probably the first time in a long while that he even attempted to work on his powers outside of school. Manipulating stone might be a little farther out of his reach than he first thought. When Joshua unleashed the fire a second time, Devin stepped away from the flames and put the walls up. His muscles tensed. These were probably the only times he did not wear a smile on his face but it was a bit hard to focus on being all smiley when there was the potential to turn into tonight's roast duck.
After a time of dropping and raising walls and wearing himself out, Devin heaved a sigh and refrained from sitting down. "Thanks bro," He nodded to Josh. "I think I'm done for the day though. I don't think I can handle any more of that for a while. Maybe get a bottle of water or something." Water would be good.
