There was only a month or so in the entire year when Sandra visited Japan. All in all, she spent most of her time at Maple Hollow at this point, though if she wasn't at the Academy, she figured she'd still be in Vancouver where the rest of her family was. It was weird. In a way, she was much more Canadian than she was Japanese (certainly more than she was Chinese). There was no other place on Earth she'd rather live than where she did, she was pretty sure -- her time spent between Vancouver and the Hollow suited her just fine. She wondered what would happen when she graduated high school or even college or university or whatever she decided to do. So long as Matthew was still there and didn't kick her out, she could probably stay in the apartment, but if she wanted to, her parents (liking to know what their daughter was up to, after all) would probably welcome her back home no problem. She technically still did live with them, just... not when she was at school. Over the past couple of months, though, she'd grown pretty accustomed to its just being the two of them. Older siblings got annoying, but they definitely weren't parents... or grandparents, she thought, thinking of her grandparents back in Vancouver too. Now they were Japanese.
"Japan? It's nice! A lot the same, a lot different too," she said, not bothering to take extra time to think about it. She always felt it best to go with whatever her gut instinct was at a particular time. "I mean, it's all cities and stuff too, but I'm from Vancouver. I guess it's really different from the Hollow." Vancouver had a sizable Asian-Canadian population anyway, like most of those huge major cities in North America. "But it's definitely cool, I like it. A lot of those little details culture-wise are super... jarring, though... but it's fun! But I wouldn't move there, probably." She became acutely aware that she was rambling and she stopped, unsure if Josh would really care to know quite so much, but she figured that it was alright, too. She just had lots of love for the place she visited so often, the place of (at least one half, anyway) her family's background. "That's a lot!" she asid, smiling a little at his sentiment that this wasn't a great deal of places. It was certainly more than she had ever been to. "Irish accents are pretty awesome. Accents are really cool in general." She grinned. The Canadian accent they were all so used to fell pretty flat in comparison, but she kind of liked it too. It was the little things, as always.
Sandra nodded. It was interesting, learning these things about people. She liked getting to know her friends, after all. She and Josh weren't exactly close or anything yet -- she couldn't even be sure he considered them friends, thoguh she personally considered most everyone a friend -- so almost every bit of information was new. "The beach is fun," she said, her face honestly lighting up at the thought. "I like the beach. And swimming. Water in general, I guess." The ocean was definitely a beautiful thing. Again, though, she had grown up on the West coast. "Ooooh... I didn't know that! That's cool! But fish must be a really big thing over there, isn't it?" It was pretty big there on the coast of British Columbia too, but from what she knew, it was way bigger and better out East. She guessed that it might be something to do with the West's having more cities and the like. "Yeah," she said softly, hoping that he wasn't angry still. He didn't seem upset, though. She would take that at face value and go with it, but she was ever so slightly more careful now. She really never did intend to make people upset with her. "I figure if I was a Fire or Thunder it'd be a different story." She couldn't imagine it, though. Element was very much a personal thing, and Sandra... was a Water.
She had stopped eating now, partly out of concern and worry for Nell... and partly because Josh really did look frightening with that scowl on his face, whether he noticed it was there or not. She was pretty sure that it wasn't directed at her, and she really, really hoped that it wasn't. She'd really planned to just stroll in and get anybody else all worked up. Really, she'd just wanted to come over and sit around doing nothing with her friend. This was fine too, she supposed, this whole sitting around talking to Josh thing... The only thing that was really worrying was, of course, this whole thing the conversation had evolved into suddenly. "If you're sure!" She looked worried still, but she took another sip of chocolate milk. It did kind of help. Mm, chocolate. She also smiled a little when he said the words "our house". In a way, she thought a relationship like theirs had to be pretty incredible, in a couple of ways. To be fair, though, Sandra knew next to nothing about real life relationships and how they worked. What she knew of romance and love she read or watched in fiction. Maybe Josh and Nell were kind of similar, just a little. She at least thought it was cute, though she refrained from saying so. "Okay. Feel free to kick me out or something though, seriously." She wouldn't even be offended, much! "Cool! Please don't put off studying just for me, though." She laughed. It was kind of hilarious for Sandra to be telling anyone not to put off their schoolwork.
(lolololol my turn to ramble. >> lots of muse, i guess? sorry i kind of went off on a tangent in the first bit, especially. i guess we just happened to strike on a special topic for sandra or something. XD)

He had figured as much but still listened to Sandra's words with an undisguised interest. All separate cultures were bound to be different but as they were all human beings it was not surprising that there were similarities as well. I'd like to visit some day, he thought to himself. Not because he had any family there, he didn't even speak the language, merely because he liked to travel and experience things. "Vancouver is nice," he said, for he'd been to it before. Along with Toronto and Montreal. It was nice to see the big cities that were the talk of Canada. He liked to be in the know about these places. "I'm a native to the Hollow, though, my parents as well, so I've never really known living anywhere else." He'd stayed in other places briefly as when he went on vacation but there was a large difference between taking a week to experience a place and really living in it. When you grew up in a place you got to learn all of its ups and downs and the tourist attractions were merely a part of the city rather than anything particularly enthralling.
He didn't mind her rambling, honestly. As he was not always the chattiest guy on the planet he appreciated when others could effortlessly pick up the conversation slack. In good moods like today's, though, he found that it was easy to follow along and contribute to the discussion. There had been a time when socializing was an effort but now it came almost naturally. He liked that. He'd changed a lot over the past couple years. "I'll bet. I mean there are people in Canada with cultural differences so an entirely different country, continent even, is bound to have some." He'd found Spain to be pretty great despite the culture shock he'd gotten upon landing and hearing most everyone babbling away in rapid Spanish. He'd found himself grateful for his fiancée's lessons in the language. "Canadian at heart, eh?" Though the last bit made sense for the sentence, it was also meant in jest for obvious reasons. Then, more seriously, he said, "Yeah, me too." He couldn't see himself living elsewhere. Maybe a different city or province but he couldn't leave for good.
He did like accents so her comment made him chuckle. "I agree." His accent was very Canadian, no traces of anything but, so maybe that made him appreciate others' a little more.
It did not surprise him that she liked the water. Not all elementals adored the element which they were affiliated with but it was commonplace that they would. Josh liked the heat and fire, Annabel swam like a fish, Nell had her garden in the backyard. It was normal to like what you could control. He might have hated deep water and had to suppress a shudder at the thought of it but he didn't see it as a bad thing when others had a fondness. As long as they didn't try to make him go swimming. "Makes sense, you're a Water and all." It wasn't insulting and it was said in an easy, relaxed tone. He still wanted to go and visit a hotspot for active volcanoes at some point in his life. Just for the experience, to say that he could. Hopefully none of them would erupt on him!
He didn't like fishing much, didn't know much about it. Even someone as ignorant to the sport as Joshua knew by visiting the coastal provinces that fishing was a big deal. "I think Newfoundland is pretty good for it but Nova Scotia's got a reputation of their own, I'm sure." It was an island province, surrounded by waters that could be fished in. Surely that meant that fishing was a big deal? He hoped he was not wrong but did not point out that he might be. He didn't like to admit that he was not knowledgeable on any subject whatsoever. He liked being intelligent and liked others seeing him as such.
There was the prickle of irritation that was common with his anger but Joshua no longer felt an urge to snap at Sandra. The little and silly things still set him off with his bad temperament and poor control over it. Thankfully he was able to keep it from causing serious issues most of the time now. He'd throw up his hands and walk away if it was someone he did not want to fight with or he'd simply continue like nothing had happened if, as in this case, he realised he was wrong. Apologies were out of the question. "Probably. Just like it took a while to get your element to stop fucking pranking me." He shook his head and looked irritated for a moment before he realised that it might have come across just as offensive as her comment had to him. Shit. That wasn't what he'd been going for at all. He needed to filter his words more. "No offence," he added in an attempt to diffuse any tension he might have caused.
Sandra really seemed like a people-pleaser. It was as if she wanted to make sure that she was not being a bother and so she had to ask multiple times until positive. It amused more than irritated him and he shook his head, looking exasperated as his lips twitched. "Really, it's fine," he insisted for what felt like the millionth time but which was probably only the second or third. "I study a lot more than you'd probably think. I'll live for half an hour or so." He didn't need studying to live. Geez, that was a scary thought. He'd probably do all right, though, because he studied a lot to make sure he'd get into medical school anyway.

He seemed genuinely interested in what she had to say, which was nice, but it generally didn't stop Sandra from babbling on and on anyway. She was pretty sure that when she talked to her brother, for instance, he didn't even listen half the time, but it was pretty much okay with her at some point in her relationships with other people -- she wasn't so unrealistic as to think that everything that came out of her mouth was particularly interesting... or even made sense, sometimes. Josh did seem interested, though. That was always a nice thing. "I love Vancouver," she said, smiling. It hadn't been something she'd ever thought about until she'd come to the Academy. Vancouver and Maple Hollow were definitely worlds apart despite being in the same province. Things were always very different across the entire country. "But the Hollow's nice too! I'm guessing you have no plans to move..." She said this mainly because he seemed so final with what he said about not knowing what it was like to live elsewhere -- and also because Josh had a... family, sort of, even if he and Nell weren't married yet.
Things in Canada were definitely very different from place to place, she thought. Even across the big csadfsadfasfasfdasdfasdf ities, it was pretty different, though there were a couple of things that cities mainly had in common -- rude people, for example. "Totally different," she agreed. "Can't say we have a ton in common here with, like... PEI." Then again, she knew very little of PEI except Anne of Green Gables (or was that some other province?) and... potatoes. Wow, Sandra knew very little about the Canadian East coast in general, actually. "Canadian, yep, yep!" She grinned. "I mean, I was born here. And my dad lived here for like, almost his whole life, too... eh?" She added the last point to emphasize the point. Yeah, Sandra loved visiting other places -- namely Japan as it was where she had probably spent the most time travelling -- but she couldn't imagine living someplace else.
She did like being a Water... and of course the water, by extension, but she'd always loved it even before she'd known that. Maybe she'd just gotten lucky. Sandra wasn't so sure she would consider it any kind of cause-and-effect relationship. "Maybe!" She smiled. "Like I guess you probably like fire, huh?" She'd assume so, at least. Sandra didn't like it much herself -- things like matches were obviously fine, so she didn't think it was a phobia or anything of the sort at all. Large fires scared her, though. Being attacked would probably frighten her to death -- but then again, that was probably likely even if it wasn't to do with fire. She could definitely see Fires (and pyromaniacs...) liking it, though. "Yeah, I figure there's lots of fishing in Newfoundland!" That was kind of a given. For some reason, it was a big part of the Newfie... reputation, she supposed. She was sure other provinces out East had fishing too! "Nova Scotia too... Probably lots of fish to catch out there in general." Sandra paused a little. "Though less and less each year, depleting the supplies." This kind of made her sad, even if she did eat seafood and all, wasn't a vegetarian or anything of the sort like Josh was.
Sandra was kind of a Water in the sense that she liked to mess with people, but it was mostly only in harmless ways... and really, she knew better than to mess with Fire graduates, or Fires at all. Occasionally, she got pulled along with her friends, but that was a different story altogether. Sandra couldn't control what other people did. Many of them didn't discriminate when it came to pranks and stupid jokes, though -- everyone was fair game. Still, the most malicious things were generally directed towards the other side of the alliances. "Oh, none taken! We're all kind of ridiculous." She wasn't as bad as she could have been. This was, in part, because she was just too ridiculous and all over the place to execute any particularly well thought-out plans. "I hope you didn't take it personally, yeah?" She smiled in what was hopefully a nice way and not a condescending one, not that Sandra was really capable of that.
Well... she still didn't know much about Josh, but all she ever knew him to do in his "spare" time was study and work. That was mostly because she hadn't seen him really having fun -- going out, having hobbies, the like -- in the past, though. She was sure that he had to have some. Even though, the image in her mind was that all Josh really did was study... and then go to work... and then study some more, but this was all based on the little things -- the way he always seemed busy with some kind of work when she saw him, or how often Nell said that Josh was busy whenever Sandra thought to ask after him. She just liked to make sure that the people in her life, barely acquaintances or not, were doing okay. "Okay. I'll try not to ask again," she said this time, though, grinning a little. "But I doubt you study more than I think you do..." Then again, Sandra thought everyone studied a ton. It was really a comparative thing -- to herself.

Maple Hollow really was a nice place, especially for a city. It didn't have that concrete jungle feel that a lot of them did, mostly because it was a little hard to get that impression with all the nature surrounding the place. It had a pretty sizeable population, nothing on Toronto or Vancouver but certainly more than a little backwater town. It wasn't a town at all. More importantly, it was home. He smiled briefly. "No plans, nope. It'll depend on what Nell wants, too." If, after college, Nell decided that a change of scenery was in order, he would definitely consider it. It might not happen if it was not suitable enough for both of them, he certainly couldn't see himself up and moving to Spain on short notice, but he wouldn't totally block her out. That was not what a relationship was meant to be about. "Will you go back home to Vancouver after school's done?" A lot of people chose to return to their birth place due to nostalgia but perhaps Sandra was not one of them.
A brief laugh brushed past his lips when she mentioned PEI. "Bit hard to have something in common with a place so small," he joked. "Not enough space for similarities." Naw, PEI wasn't that tiny, but it certainly had nothing on British Columbia. "I mean Vancouver Island is bigger than it. Though I still think Vancouver should be on Vancouver Island." It only made sense, but no, Victoria had to be all important and capital-y. What an asshole. Could cities even be considered assholes? Whatever, it didn't matter. Gray eyes danced with humour as her words enticed a chuckle from his throat. 'Eh' was so overused as a stereotype but it was still funny to poke fun at it and use it excessively when talking about Canada.
He did indeed enjoy fire and a bit of a devious smirk played on his lips at the thought of it. "Oh, yeah," he agreed. "And heat. Can't wait for the summer to come back around." He didn't really like all of the cold and snow in winter. He wasn't into sledding or skiing or snowboarding or... well, most of the other things that were commonly done in the winter. He liked summer for the fact that it was hot. A lot nicer for a hike up into the mountains. Not that he'd completely shut down the idea of hiking in the snowy weather but he preferred doing so when it was warm out. Teasing, he said, "Lemme guess, you like winter better?" Not all Water elementals did, actually, and he wondered if she'd correct him if he were wrong.
He'd definitely heard about the depletion of the fish population in Canada and had quite the opinion on it himself, as he did with most things. Joshua made a point to really keep up with the goings-on in Canada (and the world in general, to a point) so that he could hold his own in a conversation. Lacking knowledge that others had made him uncomfortable. Even the thought bothered him. "They should really just give it a rest for a while, at least cut back, so that the natural populations can swell again." Maybe they'd be like rabbits, overbreeding and filling the seas. Over-filling, even. That would be better rather than worse for fishermen, he supposed. "The rate they're going it'll end up wiping everything out." He rolled his eyes. "It's the same way we end up destroying all the other natural sources of things." 'We' being the human race, of course. Fresh water, oil, fish... they were really good at fucking shit up for themselves. They even had to fuck with the ozone layer, like messing shit up on the ground wasn't good enough after a while.
He lifted his brows. "It was personal," he said. It really was hard to look past elemental stereotypes but he'd had to do it so often since switching sides that he grudgingly admitted, "Maybe not every time." There had been a lot of Waters, especially around his own age, who had done it with clear malicious and personal intent. The year when he'd been Fire leader was probably the worst, Josh recalled. Being the leader of an opposing element of the Waters was practically like painting a prank target on your head.
He was amused by her comment as she grinned, his lips twitching in return. His usual not-smile that nevertheless displayed that he wasn't in a bad mood even if he wasn't being the most expressive person in the world. "If you make it fifteen minutes, I'll give you a medal," he joked. His expression turned gravely serious at her next words and he frowned. He was still joking, he just... erm, didn't exactly look like he was. "You're judging me." It was accusing and sounded offended but he really didn't mean to cause alarm in any way. His serious sense of humour could often be a problem, especially since his stoicism was intense a lot of the time. Even when he was kidding.

"What if she wanted to move like, super far away?" she asked, cocking her head to one side in curiosity. She'd assume that Josh would still be willing to talk it out, considering the two of them were in a fairly serious relationship, but then again, far away could be like... across the world, and that was a really huge decision to make. On the other hand, it was also a huge wish that he'd shut down if not. Nell hadn't ever said anything about seriously wanting to leave the Hollow or anything, though, at least not that Sandra could recall. If she did want such a thing, anyway, she was sure that Josh would know already. "I might," she said, thinking over it now. Sandra didn't like making plans for the future, liked to live in the moment and take things as they came. "I think I definitely will, at least for a while!" she said brightly. "Then again, I'm not sure. I guess it depends on if Matt kicks me out of the apartment too, after I graduate." It was a joke, though... She was pretty sure her brother didn't have intentions of kicking her out, and she didn't think living with her was so hard that he would want to by that time.
She giggled a little. "It really is tiny," she agreed even though he'd been joking around. "Feels like it'd be smaller than just Vancouver or something!" Then again, since it had fewer people and (she assumed) more space for farmland and the like, maybe it felt bigger than it really was, with all that... open air around there. It was hard to tell without having been there before. "I'm pretty sure it is, actually! Though I know. That always confused me as a kid trying to find where I lived on a map." She would see the huge island that said Vancouver and get excited, thinking that whole place was where she lived... but no, it was just a big dot or square or star slightly East of there.
Was it a Water-y thing to like winter better? Sandra didn't really know. One would think that she knew a little more about her own element and her fellow Water elementals, but really she lived in a bubble on her own. This kind of information had never seemed prudent to her before, but now she wondered -- his tone suggested that it made sense or was statistical or something for Waters to like winter. "Summer, actually!" She smiled a little. It didn't really have anything to do with her element at all, she was pretty sure. Summer was just the season filled with her favourite things. "Swimming and going out and it's not too cold and you can eat ice cream without people thinking you're weird," she said, grinning broadly now. It was also when her family took their (annual, for the most part) trips to Japan, which she of course always loved.
The ocean was important to Sandra. She wasn't the type to go running around trying to save the world, really she wasn't -- it was a combination of laziness and, really, the fact that she knew she didn't have any particularly useful skills for that kind of thing. She did always feel a pang when she heard about how badly fish populations and the like were being depleted, though. It was a natural thing for her. "I know, but I don't think they're going to do that anytime soon." Fishing was a big industry. "And I guess if I were a fisherman I'd feel pretty bad if someone told me to stop doing my job." She had seen somewhere that many people started quite young, not even needing to finish high school because they could already make so much money fishing and things like that. She guessed that in that case, it'd be pretty darn difficult to stop entirely... but her optimistic mind still told her that they should be able to cut back. "People aren't so good for the Earth, are they?" Sandra loved people. This thought made her sad, too.
She wondered if it were possible she had offended him again in some way. She really hadn't meant to. "Sometimes, I figure," she said softly. "Maybe a lot of the time." Although a Water, she'd never been the type to pull pranks -- at least, not any that were serious, not any that would cause serious harm or distress to anyone. "It wasn't all of us, y'know?" Waters were also pretty okay with Josh now, as far as she could tell.
"Gold or silver?" she quipped back without missing a beat, sounding enthusiastic about it. "Or bronze," she added as an afterthought, as if seriously contemplating this. Then her eyes went wide as his face became much more serious. Oh sheesh, Sandra, stop talking while you're ahead. The fact that he was joking went straight over her head -- she took things at face value almost always. "N-no! I'm not, seriously! Studying's good! Nothing wrong with studying, or studying a lot, unless you like, forget to eat or sleep or something but I'm sure you don't do that -- studying's good -- not like me, see, I have no future!" she blabbed, trying to fix whatever grave error she had made.

Joshua hoped that Nell did not want to move too far away. He loved the girl and he would do a lot for her but he did not know how he felt about moving to the other side of the world or something like that. "We'd talk about it, probably." he shrugged. I just hope it doesn't come to that. Maybe when he did sit down with her to talk about their future and their plans he would mention Canada and Maple Hollow and if she ever had plans to leave it behind. He was not opposed to travelling in any way but he hoped that he would not have to make any major sacrifices. He'd definitely have to consider that sort of thing and talk it out with her, though, because relationships often ended up being about compromise. Different people, different wants. "Ah, siblings," he said with evident amusement when she mentioned the prospect of Matthew kicking her out of his apartment. "Hopefully it doesn't come to that, though." It would suck to be forced into going to Vancouver because Matt decided that he didn't want his little sister around any more. He wondered if they fought often (they seemed close but he couldn't be too positive) but of course refrained from asking.
He hadn't a passion for Geography like he did for medicine or anything like that but he knew enough to make a pretty good estimate. "Nah, I'm pretty sure it's at least larger than Vancouver," he chuckled. He made a note to look that up later and see how much larger, though, because he was curious. Joshua tended to become interested in random things and consult libraries and search engines to look up tidbits and little facts. He was amused by the mental image of a little Sandra thinking that Vancouver was an island. "Hey, imagine what I went through," he joked. "The Hollow's right out in the middle of nowhere." There wasn't another settlement for a long time in terms of a drive.
Was he surprised that Sandra preferred the summer? Well, to a point. Joshua understood as most who paid attention in class did that element did not strictly define every single aspect of a person's life. It was simply natural for some, like Joshua, to enjoy the heat more thanks to a connection with their element and the fact that winter had no appeal for him anyway. However, summer was not his favourite season. "I'd be surprised and all but my favourite season is spring," he shrugged. "For the rain and the fact that winter's done." He loved the rain. The sound of it as it lashed against windowpanes or pattered on the cement, the smell outside after a lengthy rainshower. He really did like spring for that reason. Wasn't a lot of rain in the summer. "Summer's definitely my second, though, so... uh, guess you've got me beat there." Not that it had actually been a competition or anything like that.
That was one thing he could agree with. People bitched and complained about the state of the environment and the Earth but they never did anything about it. I'm no help, he thought. The man drove a sports car and he wasn't an activist for any of the things he had an opinion on. Oh well. It wasn't like he got all whiny around people so he figured he had the right to some sort of thought. "We really aren't." He didn't have enough ego or motivation to think that he could make a difference in that aspect, though. I'll stick to saving the lives of people and not fish.
His lip twitched slightly when Sandra defended her elemental kin just as he'd gotten touchy about the subject of the Fires. Guess I'm being a bit hypocritical, aren't I? Being wrong bothered him and he didn't like to admit it. He probably owed Sandra an apology or something but he was never the type to apologise. So instead, he merely said, "No, not all of you." He'd never had a problem with Sandra or her brother, Matt, either. A lot of the Waters he'd had issues with in the past treated him with an awkward tolerance now. Some still outright disliked him. Then there were others who were decent about the fact that he'd switched sides and made it clear they didn't mind his presence. He appreciated that in his own way. "It's like I said, if I had a problem with you, you'd know." He was indirectly admitting that the fact he didn't have issues with Sandra meant that not all Waters were evil demon spawn in his eyes.
He smirked. "Platinum." Because he liked to think outside the box and go outside of the regular choices. He was so used to his own sense of humour that he did not often think about the person he was joking with long enough to realise that they probably wouldn't get it. He blinked when she blabbed on and on in some kind of a ramble. "Uh, actually I do forget to eat and sleep a lot," he told her, though he was not offended. Good thing for Sandra, too, or it could have went from a joke to being serious and uncomfortably awkward. "I'm not mad or anything, I was kidding." He said this in the same serious tone that he'd used before, honestly his natural vocal tone. I need to keep in mind she doesn't know me too well. Ah, but would he actually? Probably not. Josh had a great memory but that was one thing he paid little attention to.

"Talking about it is good," she said with a tone of approval, not that he needed hers, and she was well aware of it. She did like this, though. It seemed like a healthy relationship. Sandra wanted only the best for her friends. It wouldn't do for either one of the two of them to just make huge decisions like that on his or her own. She smiled a little at his apparent amusement at the whole situation with Matthew. "I don't think he would," she said, and it was an honest sentiment. She wouldn't say that she and Matt were particularly close as siblings, not in the sense that they were best friends or anything weird like that -- ew, he was her brother -- but they got along and, without all that mushy stuff, Sandra cared about her brother and she knew it was reciprocal and that was all that she needed! Well, she could also use a few commas and full stops in her thoughts else she'd be very out of breath should she say this kind of sentence out loud, but okay. "But I guess you never know. I might have to start doing chores now to make sure he doesn't! The horror!" She made a face of mock shock. Sandra didn't do a terrible amount much around the apartment, but she wasn't so lazy so as not to help out at all. It was mostly homework she hated doing.
She smiled. PEI was pretty small, but it probably couldn't be smaller than a city, unless maybe the city was New York, because that was hard to tell... Nah, she knew it wouldn't be. Sandra just liked to amuse really funny thoughts in her mind sometimes. She was more intelligent than people probably thought on first impression... and at the same time much less intelligent than others thought. It was a very strange cycle. "Still pretty small for a province," she said, nodding. It was smaller than most states in America even, she was pretty sure, and those were far smaller than Canada's provinces. Then again, she was no expert on Geography of any sort. "Are we on a lot of maps, even?" she asked, frowning a little. There wasn't an airport here, and very few roads in and out of the city... She couldn't see why most people would care to know where it was. The city's name was pretty, though.
Sandra laughed at his reasoning, more amused than trying to poke fun at him. "Good reason as any. Winter's pretty lame," she said, making a face. She turned her head to look out one of the nearby windows. There was snow all over the place even though it wasn't, at the moment, falling from the sky. "Got you beat... how?" She couldn't think of a way to wrap her mind around this being a competition in any way. She wondered what they'd even be competing for. "Spring is fine too, though! Like the world is waking up from a really long nap," she said, giggling at her own comparison. Sandra would give quite a bit to be able to sleep for months and just have no other responsibilities in life.
As far as she had been able to see so far, apart from the occasional moment like just a few minutes ago when she'd made that offhand comment about Fires, Josh didn't have a problem with her, so that was fine. She smiled, a little bit relieved actually. Though she generally assumed that people liked her as much as she liked them -- and she grew to like people very much very easily -- it was always nice to have the reassurance, especially when it was someone like Josh who so infrequently expressed emotions like that. She knew that much about him, at least. It was pretty different from Sandra. The girl wore her heart on her sleeve. "Good," she said, smiling. "I mean, seriously though, let me know if there is anything!" She couldn't fix things unless she knew that they were broken, after all. She never bothered to think to do things unless prodded to, either.
"Always the extra step!" she said as if exasperated with him. Sandra didn't really get exasperated with people, certainly not for things like that. Someone would have to gravely offend her in some way, but the thing was that she was so relaxed about everything -- everything! -- that this was very difficult to do. People had tried, too, much the same way she got from friends all the time that they were going to corrupt her mind. It had yet to happen. "Oh." She felt kind of dense for not realizing that he had been joking, but then she shrugged it off, mainly because of what he'd said before that. She was very easily distracted. "Wait, that's not good, though!" She looked at him kind of concernedly -- really, Sandra didn't know Josh that well, and she was probably in no position to force the guy to eat and sleep or something, but she worried about people. "You should always eat. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And lots of sleep. Lots of sleep is good," she rattled off as if any of this was brand new information to Josh. No, she was sure he already knew it all, but he just seemed very busy. Admittedly, Sandra probably didn't need to eat or sleep as much as she did, but she liked naps and food! She couldn't help it.
