Arielle gave her friend a small smile. Nell wasn't annoying her yet, and honestly, she didn't think the girl could. She was feeling bad that the girl was apologizing to her. She didn't really do anything wrong...just not tell her about something that was sooo not her business to be begin with. Even though it did sting...
"Mmm. Yes. And there men-" She cut herself off. Get your hormones in check young lady! Otherwise Nell would see how desperate Ari was for a man. "...and the sites. I want to see the Eiffel tower..." No use trying to pretend it didn't happen, and Nell definitely heard her, so she prepared herself for the reply her bestie was going to give her. "Yes, we really should do it."
"Ok-" Ari said while Nell dragged her towards the food court. The smell of different foods wafted towards her, which resulted in her stomach growling in response. "Oh yeah, I didn't eat much today." She gave Nell a troll face grin and headed off towards the Asian cuisine. Getting her order of General Tsos, she headed towards her friend, who was already munching on her pizza. "You make it look so yummy."
She wanted to people watch, and Ari didn't mind that. As long as it's not the other way around. Ari hated the feeling of being watched. It made her feel super self-conscious, which made her feel really uncomfortable.
After watching a few people, commenting on the wear, and munching on her food, Ari turned to Nell with a serious expression.
"Okay, let's get down to business. You. Josh. Talk."

Nell raised her eyebrow. ”You mean…the manly sites?” she teased. She honestly didn’t blame Ari for her desire to find someone she loved, even though she didn’t really experience that herself. She hadn’t been looking for a relationship with anyone when she met Josh because she didn’t even understand them. ”Oh yes, we can climb the Eiffel Tower…and look at the men.” She should really stop teasing Ari, but the girl of course understood. Nell never wanted to make anyone feel bad, and she ony entertained in gentle ribbing.
”You didn’t eat that much today?” Nell repeated as if wholly shocked. It was always a bit concerning for her when she knew that her friends hadn’t eaten in a while. When she heard that, her mind immediately went to her emaciated sister, how she wouldn’t eat in her last weeks of life. It was also why she ate so much. The food court was a wonderful place for Nell to hang out. Or maybe it was a dangerous place. Either way, she grinned when Ari spoke. ”Because it is yummy,” she said, waving the pizza around.
Then came the question, and Nell swallowed down a piece and smiled a bit. ”Uhm…well. We’ve been going out for a few months.” I am so sorry for not telling youi, Ari. Really, she was incredibly apologetic about holding out on her friend for so long. ”And he asked me out at Timmies and uh…I didn’t really know what he meant by ‘going out’.” She was sheepish to admit this, since it was necessary for Josh to force her to reexamine his question. Actually, she was sheepish to admit anything really. It was odd, talking about herself. She didn’t really like it, but she had the capacity to talk about herself with certain things. ”But yeah. Now we’re dating.” Nell continued to eat her pizza, looking around at the other people in the food court. ”Look, cowboy hat at three o’clock.” It wasn’t anything shocking, she was just hoping to get Ari to look away. Why was Nell blushing? Well, she got nervous admitting thingsabout herself.

Ari giggled a short laugh and nudged at her friend. She got the humor, and knew it was coming, so she just laughed along. It was quite funny though, and there is no embarrassment with Nell. She could say something far worse than that, and still would fell alright with that. "Haha! There's nothing wrong with that," she said, giving into the fact that she was just a little bit boy crazy at the moment.
"To be honest...I never really thought about men as much as now," Ari admitted to Nell. She didn't know why. She just never felt the need to think about them, or want them for that matter. That's why Nell and her were so close: they both shared that, and she knew her friend understood. In fact, she understood her more than her own family did.
Ari shook her head no at Nell's comment. "No. I had a banana, then napped. Woke up, talk to my mom, and came here." One thing Ari loved above all else is her sleep. She can put herself to sleep just like that, half off the time she wasn't even tired, just felt the need to nap. And woe to the person who disturbs her while resting. "You know I need my sleep Nells. Nothing comes first but that," she said jokingly, yet with a bit of seriousness.
The girl snapped her teeth at the pizza, attempting to bite a piece off, but not seriously. She laughed and then dug into her own food. She listened to Nell's words, quietly munching on her food while processing the words given to her. When she mentioned they've been dating a few months, she nearly choked on her own food.
Swallowing then taking a sip of her drink, she cleared her throat and spoke. "A few months!" She tried not to shriek this too loud, but she received a few head turns from others which she easily ignored. "Nell...seriously?" Her voice saddened a bit, so she forced more food into her mouth to keep from saying anything more. Month of going out with a boy without telling her? Wasn't she her best friend? She could understand if it has been two weeks or something, but... damn.
She couldn't help but smile at Nell's next statement. "Nell, your innocence is so cute sometimes." It really was. She really didn't know what "going out" meant? Well, apparently the senior needed to hang out with her more often. Ari was innocent at times, but she knew what a guy meant when he asked to go out with a girl.
Ari turned her head at the cowboy hat guy to the right. "Ooo. Nice hat, and not that bad looking as well." She said half-heartedly while chewing her food.

She patted her friend’s shoulder and shook her head solemnly. ”Nope, nothing wrong with that.” Everyone wanted to be loved, and wanted to find someone who loved them back, right? You weren’t looking for that. She had just been going about her business, her life, when Josh had asked her out—she didn’t think love came out of nowhere, after all. And she knew she loved Josh, even though he should have been the last person she trusted. Funny how life worked. Now serious, Nell smiled at her friend warmly. ”You know the corny saying? Maybe love was there all along and you just never knew it.” Perhaps Ari had a friend or something that she just didn’t recognize her feelings for? After all, love could be confused when you didn’t understand.
Nell giggled. ”So my Ari-Bear went to hibernate after eating?” A nap sounded good, after all. Lately, there were times when she got so tired from work and stressed that she felt like dozing off forever. But then she remembered other things she had to do in her life and it prevented her from sleeping too much. ”But food,” the younger girl said when Ari said that sleep came first. Okay, sleep was important, but Ari got a lot of it! She really was like a bear.
Nell ducked her head and winced a bit as Ari repeated her words, looking cagily around at the other people sitting near them. Bringing her shoulders up, she gave a nervous smile and said, ”I love you…?” In other words, Please oh please don’t smite me, I’ll do anything for you. She did feel really guilty, but there had really hadn’t been a time when Nell felt the need to bring up her relationship with Josh. She was usually so private with her personal life, and even though Ari knew more than most, that she’d simply… No excuse, she’s your best friend. ”I just really didn’t know what to make of it at first!” she still tried to defend herself. ”Maybe I should have called you for advice…” It was mostly to satiate Ari. Nell didn’t like asking for help, but she was pretty ignorant of the dating world. She wondered how the girl would have reacted had she called her and asked what it meant to be on top.
Trying to cheer the situation up, Nell stuck out her tongue. ”I’m working on it. Internet, yanno?” Josh had warned her away from exploration, but she didn’t want to feel like a dumb kid about certain things. Ari found it cute, apparently, but she found it…degrading. She knew so little of the world she really wished… There was no use in even thinking about the past. ”I am so so sorry, Ari, I really should have told you.” She couldn’t even use the excuse of not knowing a lot about the world for this. Her best freaking friend had every right to know when something changed in Nell’s life. Except everything else I’m hiding. The urge to say everything about the trial was strong, but she clamped her mouth shut. Would Ari still like her? The girl was like a sister to her. She didn’t want to lose another sister, especially to her sins.
Looking over mischeviously when Ari said that he looked cute, Nell cupped her hands over her mouth to amplify her voice when she called, ”Howdy!” The guy looked over and Nell tilted her head so that her bangs were covering her eyes, and jabbed a finger in Ari’s direction.

Ari was glad that her friend didn't think of her as weird. Her other friends did, though and she felt bad. She couldn't help it if her hormones were...late? Is that the correct term for it? She didn't know. All she knows is that all of a sudden she's interested in boys. She's always been interested, it's just that she didn't care for them in the past. Now? She's eager for them more than ever.
She nodded, considering her comment. "That could be true..."She said without depth. Who knows what fate has for her. She could meet her prince charming now, or perhaps later. Only time could tell.
Ari laughed, then nodded at her reply. "Yes I did. And I regret nothing. I love me some naps" She said in a mocking, playful tone. How could anyone enjoy naps? She didn't understand those who didn't. It's too bad though, they're really missing out on the pleasure of the lifetime.
"Hmm, that is true. Alright then: Sleep first, then food." Nell might not agree, but sleep always came first. There were times when Ari was both hungry and sleepy, but she chose sleep. She knew it was weird, but it's what the girl wanted.
Ari raised an eyebrow at her love statement and just mumbled an "Mhmmm." She didn't say anything, just let Nell continue on with apologies and explanations. "Yeah, you should have called. But, hey. It's whatever." She said right before a slurp of her soda.
She stuck out her own tongue in reply and smiled. Getting angry with Nell is like getting angry with a puppy: it doesn't last long. She's just one of those people that you can't stay mad at for that long. Ari sighed and nodded. "It's okay Nell. But please, tell me important stuff that happens in your life next time kay? I want to know so I can help in any way, or be there for you, ya know?" She gave a serious, yet calm look. She'd really want to be there for Nell, but if it's too personal, she understood. She wasn't the noisy type, but big events she really did want to know about.
Cracking her knuckles with a sly smile, she said "Well, it looks like I'll have to re-meet this guy. You know, check him out by asking his social security number, criminal records, that sort." She smiled a little bit at the younger Earth student, letting her know that she's being silly, while being serious at the same time.
When Nell said 'howdy', Ari looked at her like she was insane, then looked at the object she was talking to. It was the cowboy, and he was heading over here! She swatted Nell. "What are you do- Hello there!" She said sweetly at the cowboy hat guy, then glanced a I-Will-Kill-You-In-Your-Sleep look to Nell.

Not many people could make Nell feel guilty as Ari did. It was similar to the powerful guilt that every parents has harnessed. It gave them the innate ability to make their child feel completely at fault for anything, even when they did nothing wrong. Her mother had that power over her, and it was why she still blamed herself for everything till today—that was, if she thought on it. And she tried not to, because it filled her with a similar emotion to what her best friend was making her feel now. Nell figured the whole ‘guilt trip’ lay within the hands of those who you spend the most time with, who you cared about. Ari could blame Nell for a tornado, and the latter would feel the burden of guilt. She didn’t let Ari in on this—she didn’t want to make the girl feel bad about the power she had over Nell’s emotions. She would simply keep that guilt to herself.
But it didn’t help when Ari offered her absolute support, and demonstrated just how amazing a person she was, compared to how wretched her best friend was compared. Important stuff like a murder trial? She didn’t let the emotions tumbling through her show on her face or the fact that she was completely torn. I bet she’ll find out anyway. Nell could barely stand it anymore. Usually, she’d be much better about it, but this was Ari, a girl who she trusted more than most others. I want to protect her from me. She was being selfish, she wanted to hold onto this friendship. And she believed that if Ari knew about her past—about how bad it was—then she would end up hating her. ”Of course I will,” Nell said, her smile so convincing and genuine. ”Who else would I go to, huh?” No one, she didn’t want to have to burden anyone with her sins.
Nell rolled her eyes when her friend cracked her knuckles. ”Your overprotectiveness is just so cute!” she teased. I would advise you to stay away from the criminal records, Nell said, since neither Josh’s nor hers was sparkling clean. Nell was almost tempted to tell her that the two had been arrested together before just to see her reaction, but it wasn’t something she’d say. That would be compromising something between her and Josh, and she knew that it wouldn’t sit well with Ari, either. Or the fact that you’re a fugitive murderer. The secrets she kept from others unsettled her sometimes. ”All you need to know is that I love him,” she said, gripping Ari by the shoulders and rocking her when she crooned on the word ‘love’. And really, she hoped that was enough for her, to see that Nell was happy with her boyfriend.
She busied herself with sipping at her soda much like Ari had before when she swatted at her for drawing the attention of Mr. Cowboy. ”Uh…hi,” Mr. Cowboy greeted them, and Nell was crossing her fingers for him to tip his hat. No cigar, and she merely grinned over-exaggeratedly at Ari in response to her death glare. Then, she pulled out the empty seat on her side and said, ”Come on, have a seat, we don’t bite!” Her grin still split her face as the guy came over rather nervously and took the seat, looking between the two girls. ”My name’s Nell, and this here is Ari. And her phone number is 932 – 8069. You should call her sometime. Ooh, I’ll get a pen to write it down.” She looked over at Ari and asked, ”You have a pen?” Of course, Ari had every right to refuse Nell—she understood how uncomfortable it was for cetain people to have her number. But since Ari said that she wanted a boy, well, Nell was gonna get her a boy.

If she made Nell feel guilty, then she didn't mean to. That was not her original intention. If Ari did, then she felt bad for bringing it up. She didn't want anyone to feel bad about themselves; she just wanted to know what was up. But then again...it was Nell's personal business: If she didn't want to tell, then she didn't have to. It's not her fault that rumor let out before she got the chance of telling Ari. That, and Nell is a very private person, much like herself. Those are the reason why Ari was not mad at her friend...or at least, not anymore.
"Good." Ari nodded and smiled. Raising an eyebrow, she stuck out her pinky, signalling that a pinky swear was about to happen. "But just to make sure we're clear, we'll seal the promise with this." She left the digit out so that her friend could wrap around her own with hers.
She had this extremely vague feeling that something was off with her. She didn't know how, or why, but she felt like something was...going to occur with this girl. Whether it be with her boyfriend, or something else in her life, Ari had to be there. It was her obligation as a friend, and a sister.
She smirked at her friend's teasing gesture. "It must run through the family, then" She said with slight aggravation. She really did get annoyed by the overprotective-ness of her family. But, if they cared for her in any way like she did for Nell, then she understood completely, not matter how much of a bother it may be.
So you love him, eh Ari thought this, but didn't say it. She raised her eyebrow at her in doubt. "Developing love over a couple of months? I find that hard to believe hun..." She didn't want to seem pessimistic, but that just seemed so unlikely. A crush? Yes. Feelings? Yes to that too. But love? She didn't know about that.
But then again, there can be two types of "love": One can be just caring about someone. Ari loved her mom, brothers, and her friends. Yet, being "in-love" with someone was totally different. It involved passion and the need for the significant other. She could be wrong, be she thought that it was the former.
She just shrugged it off, not thinking of the thought for the time. Her current thoughts centered on the cute cowboy before her. She couldn't help but blush like a mad woman as Nell told him her name, and her very own. Then, she did the unthinkable by stating her cell. Her foot reached on instinct and kicked Nell's leg hard on the shin. "Nell Doe Shepherd! You should not say that!" She looked at the cowboy with an embarrassed smile, she was about to apologize, explaining that her friend was just messing around when she thought of a way of payback.
"I'm sorry sir. See, this girl is my 'little-sister'. I'm her big sister for the month, it's part of a volunteer thing at my university. We are assigned to children with special needs. This poor girl speaks out about the most random things in the world. Please excuse her." She added a sweet, winning smile to the man, and watched as he tipped his hat at her, and walk back to his original seat. She glanced over at Nell with a smirk and sipped her drink in silence.

Nell grinned when she saw Ari’s pinky, and hooked it with her own. ”Pinky promise.” And it was like an iron-clad oath, one that she was already violating. She felt sick to her stomach. Ari, I don’t know what to do. Would she hate Nell? Fear her? Dump her? She didn’t want the girl she was closest to dumping her. I’m a murderer, I… Ari knew about the abuse—well, that it happened, anyway—and that was something that only she and Josh knew about. Was she ready to open up to the girl more, since she also revealed something very sensitive about her past? She trusted her like nothing else, but Nell was a nervous react. How many secrets were too many? When would Ari realize she was terrible person?
She shook her head as Ari implied her family, most likely. ”It’s a good thing, methinks,” she said honestly. It just amazed Nell that someone could actually feel protectiveness over her, it was strange. Her entire life had been without protection, without anyone who knew or cared. It took some getting adjusting to, and there was the fact that Nell didn’t think she deserved protection, but it was nice to know that Ari cared. It was amazing, actually. Nell sometimes didn’t know what to think of the world she was still trying to fit into, but she knew she loved it. What she had now was better than anything she had before. It was better than that hell she called home, it was better than she believed possible. And people like Ari just made everything so much better. It made her feel like this life could last as long as she wanted it, and helped her forget about the trial. But not for too long.
The girl seemed rather skeptical of her love for Josh, and this confused her a bit. More naivete, it seemed like she was just ignorant. She wasn’t just a silly schoolgirl with a crush with the hot bad boy. She was telling the truth in their game on twenty questions when she told Josh she realized that she had feelings for him when he supported her during the war. Maybe it was too soon to be thinking that she loved him…? After all, she was very insecure in this relationship thanks to the fact that she had never been in one before. But she liked to think that her feelings were sure even if her mind wasn’t. ”How long do you think it takes?” she asked curiously. ”To fall in love?” She knew her parents had met and gotten married quickly. Mia was already pregnant when she and Leon eloped. And their marriage had fallen apart. But they were different than Josh and herself, at least she hoped. They hadn’t rushed into a relationship. Hell, they had come a long way before considering a relationship. And all Nell really knew was that Josh made her happy.
She simply continued to smile as Ari pretty much whacked her leg, even though she shifted a bit. High-pain thresholds were lovely sometimes. Nell was interested to see how she would react, and of course the older girl did not miss a beat. What is she getting at…? Nell’s face was practically turning purple as she held back giggles when Ari called her a “special-needs child”. ”Ari, it’s time for my meds!” she whined. Nell crossed her eyes until the guy walked away and she swatted Ari a few times. ”You’re such a butthole!” she said as she laughed. Nell was going to continue berating her until her phone rang, and she groaned, listening to the tone. ‘Dickhead’ always warned her of her father. She gave an apologetic look to Ari, but since they weren’t simple acquaintances that needed to fill in awkward silences all the time and be incredibly polite, she picked up the phone. The two had a Spanish conversation before Nell sighed and said, ”I have to go, but I’ll call you later, all right?” She hugged Ari before half-skipping off with her bags to pick up her notebook that she needed for school.
[since i notice that this thread takes place like...way long ago, we should definitely start a new one. wanna plot over pm or skype or something? xDD]
