Nell passed her curious gaze between Josh and his cousin—of course, she wasn’t aware that this was his cousin since she’d never met her before. But the Earth girl was careful not to make assumptions or judgments. Nodding as he said that it was fine, she kept her expression pleasant as it usually was. She returned Josh’s kiss, still feeling rather confused as to who this girl was, but of course she wasn’t going to demand that he explain like he did something wrong. After being introduced, she gave Vie a smile as she said, ”Hi.” Nell kept her unwavering gaze on Vie as she was given a once-over. Nell lifted her eyebrows at the girl, not fazed by the insult. She almost laughed when she was referred to as ‘that’, but she bit down on her tongue and forced her lips into a frown as she ducked her head. It was probably the fact that it was the first thing that Sylvie decided to say to her that entertained her so much. However, Josh didn’t seem quite as amused by the insult since, and continued to divert her eyes as she held back her smile. It took a lot to affect her with a comment, especially when the person didn’t even know her. And even though Josh may not have the same boundaries, Nell didn’t bother with a snippy remark. If she’d been really bothered, she’d have come back with a snarky comment. But she found it was just easier to pretend like she didn’t even hear the girl.
Josh introduced the girl as his cousin, and Nell’s mouth formed into a silent ‘oh’ to show that she caught on to which cousin this was. Of course, it gave her an uncomfortable feeling remembering that Vie had accidentally and inadvertendtly caused a rather catastrophic fight between her and her boyfriend. Actually, she couldn’t blame the blond—it was Nell who’d made the mistake. And she was rather reassured knowing that Sylvie was a relative and there was no need to feel any sort of jealousy that she might have been feeling. Just a little bit. ”Nice to meet you, Sylvie,” Nell said, as if the girl hadn’t just insulted her. She was always pleasant, and she didn’t necessarily dislike the girl. She didn’t know her well enough to form any opinion except that she liked judging Nell. And that it seemed Josh wasn’t too fond of her, which might have explained why he summoned her out. She continued to smile politely as Josh decided to brush off his cousin, and was still smiling when Vie gave her the look, raising her eyebrows again.
When Josh apologized bac inside Subway, she said as if confused by the apology, ”No, it’s all right, she’s a very pleasant person.” Then Nell seriously told him, ”It’s fine.” She seriously was not at all bothered by Sylvie. Might have been different if she wasn’t a relative and was cuddling up to Josh, but since that was not the case, Nell was quite fine with the situation. The girl had enough tact not to mention that he wouldn’t be forced into seeing them because he wasn’t living with his parents and she assumed that they were going to be either staying there or at least speaking with them. This was from her own observations of others’ families—she didn’t ever have family visit her house, because she was too young to remember Jane when she was trying to get back in touch with Mia. She only had a foggy semblance of a memory in which she was drawing something for her aunt. Wonder if she framed it, Nell thought sarcastically, even though—unbeknownst to her—Jane had. ”Where are they from?” she instead asked, skirting around the topic of Josh’s family. Whenever she thought of the family Josh no longer had, she felt sick to her stomach, and that wasn’t good when she was about to eat.
She felt sorry as she watched the clerk struggle to keep all of the ingredients inside her sandwhich, but it didn’t take long before she received it and felt the lack of excitement when she paid. No longer did she use her father’s money for evil. ”It’s a nice day, so the park it is,” she said like a battlecry before taking out her sandwhich and beginning to eat it as they walked. It was a little chilly, but nothing her hoodie couldn’t protect against. And with Josh being a space heater and all, she was sure he could handle it himself. ”Feeling better now that you’re finally outside?” she asked only half-jokingly as they entered the park and she looked around for a bench so that she could finish her sandwhich while seated. She found a picnic table and sat down, continuing to eat.
