[Fuck yes, page two! -fist pump-]
Josh arched an eyebrow. He was confident in his own strength but even he wasn't eager to go facing off with a bear. Then again, she was probably taking the use of her elemental prowess into account, whereas Joshua would not. For one thing, they were in the middle of the forest and using fire would be dangerous if you weren't concentrating. It was a bit hard to concentrate when a wolf was clawing at your throat. And on the other hand, Josh was vegetarian for a reason. He loved animals and so he had a hard time causing harm to them. The idea of killing a bear when he was probably intruding on its territory didn't please him. All the same, he didn't bother explaining this to Freya. "Have fun fighting off bears, then," he said instead, sounding amused.
When she broke off, Joshua didn't assume that she had grown up in an orphanage and that she'd been about to admit it. Instead, he merely figured that she was talking about grade school and though he wondered at why she hadn't just came out and said it, Joshua wasn't really the type that would ask these things. "That was the joke," he replied. His childhood had been spent in the private school system, but Joshua supposed that children everywhere were the same. If you faced them with a situation that didn't benefit them, kids were going to argue their point until the ends of the Earth. Joshua had been rather good at arguing due to the fact that he was so serious, but it had been lost on the kids that weren't as bookwormish as he. Sad, really.
She came up with some bullshit excuse as to why she wanted to know his middle name, and Joshua merely arched an eyebrow at her. 'Really?' the look seemed to say. 'You're going to try that?' Smirking a little, Josh pointed out, "If I didn't say, it wouldn't be something you knew to call me anyway." If she didn't know his middle name, she couldn't formulate nicknames for him based upon it. And he wasn't going to say. Joshua didn't like to tell people all that much about himself and unfortunately for Freya this included not disclosing his middle name to someone whom he'd just met five minutes ago.
Joshua arched an eyebrow, and he was silent as another wave of heat swept over the area, more intense this time so that it would eliminate the water and the cold. "If you were cold, you could have just said so. It's pretty stupid to be out in a bikini when winter's still clearing up, though." It was getting warmer and all but it still wasn't a good idea to go flouncing around without a shirt or pants.

[Net hates me, so I use template later. Yes, me talk like tarzan so me don't use many words. Oh, my first 2nd page T^T I'm so touched. Really T^T]
Oh, look, amusement yet again. Hmm, perhaps he figured she wouldn't be able to do it? Heh, but she was pumped, thank you very much. Cold, but pumped! You know, the situation when you think you'll be able to exhale steam? Right, that level pumped. Then again, how would she fight a bear? Well, burning it would be just mean... and talk about the smell. Besides, not like an animal could deflect fire balls like students here could. Perhaps, it'd be the same as in the cartoons? Yeah, she could try to wresle it! And like... do uppercuts or grapples. Thou, the claws could be a problem. Ah well, she'd figure something out. And no, that was not stupidity. She was just that brave. Hey, she's still alive, ain't she? So, besides bugs there's nothing to be afraid of! "No really. No one stands a chance against me when it comes to wresling! Be it human or wild beast! I guess it's just my unfearful natu-eek!" she flicked a bug off her leg, her breathing now quicker. God, that was close... And it took a second for her to turn beet red. So much for that speech. But, but.. she WAS brave! Really! No saving it now... Awwh. "Anyway... wanna walk a bit?" well, she wanted to ask something else. But repeating a 'what's up?' wouldn't go well. Really, what was he supposed to answer? 'Oh, just chillin. You know, people trying to beat me up every day. The usual.' Yeah. She didn't think so, too. And walking makes bugs realise your legs are not a tree, thank you very much. Well, she could take it as a compliment by bugs saying she's got long legs but.. naah. Also, there was one of those little worm thingies sweeping down from it's silk thread and about to land on Josh's hed, so...
Oh good, no questions about the hesitation. Good. That meant he wasn't nosey. She had no idea why she even wanted to mention it. Well, perhaps after keeping something from people for a long time, she just couldn't do it anymore? Or maybe, she knew that keeping it this huge secret wouldn't really allow her to let it go? Oh, who knew, really. Then again, she knew nothing of how others saw these things. Perhaps that would lable her as some sort of a special child, because of some trauma and suddenly everyone would pitty her? Then again, maybe she wanted just a little pitty... but everyone doing it would be too much, she was sure. Oh, she was thinking too much about it.
Thankful for the heat, the girl sighed, relaxing her tensed up shoulders. That, by the way, had been done to try and get warmer. And not like she wanted to torture herself. Pfft. "Well, sorry, I didn't want to ask you to act like a walking heater. That would've been just rude, really... I just figured I'd go swimming and back to my room. This walk was sort of a whim, if I might say so. And if I were to go back, I know I wouldn't want to leave the room again... Then again, I probably wouldn't have been able to get back." she laughed lightly. At herself, once again. This tended t happen to her often these last few days, didn't it?
"And perhaps I might've toughened myself up?" Well, she didn't mean to say it like a question.. She just imagined how could it could really get. At least the water had been normal. Yay?

Joshua was actually tempted to challenge her himself, confident that with the advantage of height, muscle, and grade... powers or no powers, he'd probably be able to pin her down and announce her defeat. Josh wasn't usually into childish or petty skirmishes, there was just some part of him that wanted to prove to her that bravery wasn't everything. You had to have the skill to back up the talk. However, he was also capable at holding these things back. Don't be immature, he thought to himself, she might just be kidding. She seemed pretty serious, but Joshua decided he wasn't going to say much on the subject. If she thought she could wrestle a bear then it would be her loss when it came flying at her claws and all, ripped her limbs off and scattered her through the trees.
And then a bug frightened her, and all sense of irritation was lost as he laughed. Yeah, if she could be frightened by a simple bug then a bear seemed an unlikely opponent. "You keep telling yourself that," Joshua shrugged. "I doubt you've ever fought a bear before, huh?" Josh was brave at times, but he wasn't stupidly brave. He would challenge something dangerous if there was some chance of his coming out on top, but when he thought of bears he didn't think of coming out on top. He thought of being mauled and maimed and left to rot on the forest floor.
She asked if they could walk for a bit, and Joshua shrugged. "I don't see why not," he decided, though he made sure that he led them in the direction that would eventually open back out onto the grounds of the Academy. Freya obviously didn't have a very good sense of direction and so if she led them they'd be out in the wild mountains in no time. The mountains that surrounded the Hollow and the Academy were large and intimidating, and if one looked to the horizon they could see the shapes of them against the sky. Of course, such things were impossible in a forest when the leafy trees and canopy were all you could see.
"I still think it's a bit daft," he shrugged on the subject of her impromptu decision to swim. He wasn't really sure what it felt like to swim, so he couldn't really relate. He had never learned and when he'd been thrown into the backyard lake at the age of eight that had been the last time he would ever go near a deep body of water without getting cold feet and sweaty palms. It made him nervous to even think about trying to swim, so he didn't.

Oh, she expected the laughter... But really, she was brave.. She was! That meanie... "You know, I bet you'd be afraid of bugs too if someone would've locked you in a basement full of spiders while you were still but a brat." she said while puffing her cheeks lightly. Well, he'd be afraid of bugs too. She was sure of it. And yes, the whole cheek puffing thing was immature, but.. - but she was brave, you know. She really was.
Now, had she gotten to fight off a bear yet? Well, not really. But she had been in a slightly similar situation. "Perhaps not, but I've stood against a guy three times my size, or more, for quite a number of times!... Well, I was still a kid so I didn't know all the cool moves yet, but I think I did well for my age. Then again, I had something to protect that time. I tend to do stupid things for others... Really should stop." she laughed. Well, perhaps that was not the best choice, but she didn't want to sound traumatized or anything of the sort. Sounding like she needed pity wouldn't do either! I mean, she just met the guy. Oh, gosh, she should just... enjoy the warmth and try to change the topic. Then again.. Perhaps he'd just figure she was playing with her foster dad? Right! Perhaps she as talking about a bully! Yeah. Yeah... That would be it. No need to worry. If he assumed the worst every time, then he.... well, what would he do? She really didn't know him that well. What she was sure of - Freya obviously knew how to amuse the guy. When was she going to get the chance to laugh about him, huh? If there was even going to be a chance. Either way. A first impression wasn't good if you started spilling your childhood drama. No one really wanted to know, anyway. Man, she said too much at times. You'd expect something ore from someone who actually claimed to have a brain.
Great, he agreed to walk with her. And yes, he should probably take the lead. Otherwise, Freya would realise she's returned to the very same boulder after a three hour walk or worse. And that wouldn't be the best thing for someone with a short temper. And you probably know that this hindered bugs from crawling all over her? Well, yes... it wasn't just a girly fear. More like a phobia, really. She still had nightmares of herself trying to fall asleep yet feeling something crawl around and over her. afraid to actually drift asleep. And, of course, since it was a nightmare, the spiders looked bigger every time. She knew what her second foster father would say about this. It would go along the lines of 'get over it!'. Yeah, that man had a way with words, you know.
A bit draft? Couldn't the guy just heat up everything? Well, perhaps he just didn't like swimming. "Well you shouldn't let the season pass without at least taking a good swim. Besides, it keeps you in good shape." she said, tapping her stomach proudly. Well, she couldn't say she actually loved water. Which fire student could say that? But she did like the adrenaline of diving, the exercise... One could work out their agitation pretty well. And she figured all that splish-splash was pretty fun. Perhaps, she should try to find the water dorms next time she goes swimming? She had heard they were somewhere near the lake.

A basement full of spiders? He supposed that would have been pretty nasty. "There aren't many spiders in my basement to begin with." Then again, Joshua was neglecting to entertain the idea that most people did not live in mansions catered to by half a dozen cleaning staff. The maids and the butler always made sure that the house was spotless, so he wasn't picking spiderwebs off the wall left and right when he descended into the basement. He'd seen a few of course--a mansion was a large area for them to hide in--but it wasn't full of spiders as she'd said. Of course, Freya wasn't aware of his upbringing, and he not of hers. Joshua merely assumed, "Friend lock you in there?" He hadn't grown up with many of those but he'd heard about friends pulling stupid pranks like that. Unfortunately Joshua's choice of friends had been the types of people that would lock you in the basement and forget you were there. Thank goodness they hadn't known where he lived, for they were not friends now and they'd be quick to nail him in the head and bury him under the floorboards nowadays.
Freya started rambling on about something, and though Joshua did do his best to pay attention to her his attention slipped to focus more on the trees and paths around him. He wasn't a people person and so sometimes when you conversed with him he would just slip off into his own thoughts and ignore what you were saying. He caught something at the end about the girl doing stupid things for other people, and though he admittedly wondered what the hell he might have missed, he just nodded and pretended that he'd taken everything in. "They have a name for that," he said, and lifted a hand to spread a bit of heat around himself in protection of the cold. "It's called reckless." Was he joking around? It certainly didn't sound like he was, for his tone was oddly expressionless and he didn't add a laugh. Then again, even when Joshua did feel cheerful enough to joke around he kept smiling and laughing to a bare minimum the majority of the time. He wasn't a very bubbly and happy person, and the Fire graduate was a little surprised that Freya was so god damned friendly. Especially to Joshua, Josh the traitor. Everyone had been targeting him about that lately and it was truly a pain in the ass.
Joshua was unappreciative of anyone bothering or pestering him about his lack of interest in the water. He knew in a way that Freya was just being talkative and even friendly, but he didn't share her enjoyment of the water. "I've never been fond of it," he said, shrugging. He would leave it at that whether the girl wanted to press the subject or not. Just like Freya likely didn't appreciate the revisiting of her own past, Josh didn't like to get too close to the waters edge or his insides started to lock up as he remembered being shoved off the dock and onto the frigid waters of the lake in his own backyard. The Academy's lake was much larger and more intimidating, but the lake belonging to the Dale's was massive enough to be a serious threat for a drowning eight year old. "Besides, the water is cold," he frowned. "I can't stand the cold." He was a Fire elemental at heart, born and bred. His parents both carried the Fire genetics and his grandparents did too--except for his grandmother on Patrick's side, Maria. She hadn't been an elemental.
They reached the edge of the trees, then, and Joshua paused for a loathing glance toward the water they'd been speaking of before he turned to Freya. "You can go jump in a lake all you like," he said sarcastically, "but it's definitely not for me." It looked cold and smooth as glass, not the least bit inviting to the hydrophobic Fire elemental.

[Oh look at how badly I got to misread stuff... hehehe.. hehe... Well, this is humiliating XD Sorry loads, hun.]
Not many spiders. Pfft, lucky. The basement she had been in reminded one of those sacred grave places in the adventure movies. You know, the ones where the main, white hero always discovers a mummy or some freaky curse? Yeah, it looked like that. There were probably enough cobwebs to wrap up the entire Empire State Building. And no, she had no idea why she took that as an example while she was in Canada. But she did stop thinking about it after the question. Now, Josh did raise an interesting point to her. She wondered... what really counted as a friend? Because, parents were supposed to have this bond right? Ten, the kids and the adults were, after all, friends, right? Then again, weren't those two different things? Oh, she should really check into it sometime. But for now, she shouldn't really wander off in thoughts like that. After all, it seemed rude, didn't it? "No, not a friend. Well, not exactly." she said, following up with a light chuckle. She couldn't help it. For a moment there she pictured herself and her previous foster father playing ball or watching movies together. Absurd on so many levels.
"Yes, yes I am." she laughed as to respond to the word 'reckless'. Hey, she didn't see it as a major flaw, you know. Perhaps a trait she herself got annoyed with after a stupid action, but not really a flaw. Honestly, she was proud of the things she had done for others. She wouldn't usually connect the memories with the pain but with the thought she actually saved something. Well, except for the basement accident, she was glad, she had made those choices. Then again. The thought of her friend having to go through that... wasn't something she could live with, really. And it seemed funny because now, when she really thought about the situation - yes, a friend did lock her in there. In a way, you could say that, at least.
Well, look at that... He really did hate the water didn't he? Well, she didn't know, of course. She was afraid to ask because it really did seem obvious - I mean, this was the second excuse of not swimming. Usually she got a 'Oh, I haven't been swimming yet.' or a 'I think it's still too cold'. The point being, all of those had an indicator of sorts... something that did approve of swimming or just didn't do it often... but with Josh. Ah well, those were just her silly thought. Obviously, he didn't like this subject. Every answer seemed like an excuse for not swimming -or it didn't even have to seem that way. "Kay, no swimming for you, then. Sorry." she said with her hands raised in a defensive jest. Well, not like she was scared, she just knew when to quit the subject.
The lake. Just look at it. It did have it's charm, no? The surface looked so clear yet you wished you could walk over it. Freya wasn't in love with water, but she knew that it could be beautiful. Like now, for example. Call her reckless yet again, she figured. Liking the appearance of the very same element she was almost helpless against. Even if she were to fight a water elemental, what was she supposed to do - constantly make steam out of every attack until she's drained of energy and falls unconscious? Yeah, that would work out great for her, now wouldn't it?
That other comment about the lake wasn't her fault. She might've dropped the 'water topic' but she felt the need to spill a little of her plans that had to do with this very same lake. And he did make a 'jumping' comment, even, if sarcasm seemed to be the main point there. "Actually,... I plan on jumping from that old willow! One of the branches stretches further over the lake so it might be a safe jump." she said, pointing out the said old tree, rooting at the edge of the lake, a little bit further. Tell you the truth, she glanced at Josh from the corner of her eye, hoping to get something out of him. Perhaps, he'd imagine that fall and would give her something to work with. Because really, Josh hadn't been Mr. Emotions, really. All she had gotten was the smirks, shrugs and laughter - laughter mostly about her, thank you very much.
But tell you the truth, she just wanted to get a better view of the guy. Freya was determined to dig into the whole war thing. It had to stop. No more could she watch her classmates, dorm members, friends get hurt by each other. It made no sense at all. She didn't even know what to blame. Go along and just force the anger out on Josh, this Nell and the rest of the earth and water student body, or just want to shake her leaders for not knowing what 'self-control' means. So, she would try to find out as much as she could and then, somehow, try to fix this if no one else would try. "But Josh... any ideas on how to stop this madness?" As much as she felt the war was the last thing they wanted to talk about, also knew that she would've asked sooner or later. It might've seen stupid for one person to try and fix something like this. Perhaps, she would only get herself hurt or killed in the end. To tell you the truth, no matter how stupid it was, she believed in peace. She would even fight for it. Yes, that sounds absurd. Fighting for peace? But that means no peace at all. Well, that doesn't really have to be the case... Oh, and she did find herself walking closer. She couldn't say she loved the cold either so... you get the point.

['tis fine xD]
Not exactly? He was curious for a moment as to the origins of her arachnophobia, but then Joshua reminded himself that he'd only met the girl five minutes ago and so asking would be incredibly impractical. Instead, he just nodded as if this made perfect sense and like he didn't care at all what she meant by 'not exactly a friend'. And really, when he focused on it... it didn't matter, to be honest. Joshua was interested in soaking up as much knowledge as he could, so much that his father had once joked Patricia had cheated on him with a sponge. But knowledge was of no real use when what you learned didn't lead you to anything, and unless she'd been locked down in the basement by some serial killing weirdo that was plastered all over the news there wasn't anything he could gain from it except a nugget of information he'd never use again.
So he let it drop, instead arching a slow brow to the fact that she readily admitted to being reckless. "That was hardly a compliment," he informed her bluntly, blinking. He wasn't trying to be sneering or insulting, but he really hadn't meant for her to take amusement or cheeriness from the fact that he'd essentially called her a bit stupid. Though Joshua himself had been known for moments of impulsiveness, he was likening Freya's recklessness to stupidity. Then again, she'd used that very word herself, hadn't she? Stupid things for others, she'd said. Maybe she revelled in her idiocy? "Strange girl..." he muttered under his breath, talking to himself rather than to Freya.
Joshua had never admitted any sort of hydrophobia to Freya and everything he'd said had pointed more to a dislike than a fear, but he was nevertheless internally relieved when the subject was going to be dropped. He hated talking about water and lakes and swimming because it wasn't a subject he could ever find himself relating to. Josh just wasn't a swimmer, he was a Fire elemental and a hydrophobic and so there was only so much he could say about lakes from the things he'd experienced. He fucking hated them, that was that. His father loved the lake in the backyard and the pricey yacht that cut the water, but no matter how hard he tried to pull his son into an activity like boating they could both share, Joshua would not be dissuaded from the hate. The one time he'd reluctantly obliged to board the boat he'd regretted it the second they were away from shore. He had started shaking and had felt ill, so much that Donovan had to steer the thing back to shore and let Joshua get off.
He rolled his gray eyes when she further pushed the subject of the lake--hadn't she said that she was going to drop this? But he listened nonetheless, only backing up the fact that she must be absolutely insane. How the hell could someone enjoy the idea of jumping from a tree branch? "That part is probably shallow," he pointed out, shaking his head. He didn't know much about depth and the like, but he was aware that the edges of lakes were usually so. They had a dock that led out to a spot away from shore so that the boat didn't run aground. Unfortunately, that also meant it was deep enough to drown in as he'd learned when the boys had cornered him. "If you break a leg falling in, don't blame me." He wasn't even brave enough to go and put a toe in the depths, so he wasn't going to find out how deep the lake was. Ever. He'd heard it was a pretty substantial depth, so he was just going to take the word of the swimmers.
She asked after the war, however, and the Fire elemental actually glared at her. "Do you think I'd let my friend suffer if I knew?" he spat, the venom in his tone incredible. It had enraged him for some reason to think she might have assumed he'd done nothing even if he had some sort of brilliant plan. The spark of rage surprised even Joshua himself, but he didn't apologise even as he realised he might be overreacting. Instead, the boy merely narrowed his eyes slightly in distaste. "I haven't got a clue about the war, no," he said stiffly. "And if I had I've have done something. The only way this is going to stop is if they knock some sense into the Alliance... or if Nell ends up dead. I certainly don't plan on the latter occurring any time soon."

Break her leg? Well, she didn't believe that would happen. The soil was soft enough near the shallows. If it really was an impossible jump, she would end up with a twist or a nasty bruise. Then again, one could always break a limb in any situation. You'd be surprised how fragile the bones of the kid, she shared a room with, could be. Well, back in the orphanage. After getting sent back for the second time, she had to be roomies with a girl named Lucy. She once fractured her heel while getting out of bed. Yeah, it was odd, but proved to be possible. And it was mean but Freya couldn't help and wonder what might happen if the girl jumped around or dance, for that matter. But this wasn't the time to be thinking about such things. She had gotten an interesting reaction she assumed. She didn't think she had seen an eye-rolling Joshua yet. So, that was good? Well, he didn't chat as much as her and so far, she didn't really know too much. Besides the fact he was protective of his friends and that he didn't like the cold, so... yeah, she just had the protective part. Funny, she could've sworn she spilled more... yet, you could never know. The temper was only nature, along with the cold issue. Most of the fire students shared that. And honestly, Freya was easy to anger too. Just that, she didn't pay much attention when someone was targeting her. Scratch a friend of hers and you'll see how quick she can flare up. "Now why would I blame you?" she answered, slightly amused. Why was that the phrase she heard often from people after telling them about some plan of hers. Why couldn't people just not assume the worst outcome, really? All of them were so negative at times. They should look at the bright side of things, really. And yes, Freya was naive and overly optimistic when it came to dangerous situations or such. "There's always the chance it really is a safe jump. Besides, we live only once, right?" she said in a cheerful tone. Well, she might not have the highest level of self-confidence but she knew that she wasn't ashamed of her way of life. Well, she was happy and she didn't really have the fear of scaring someone too bad. Switching families didn't make her believe someone would really have a heart attack if she did break a bone. The low self-confidence helped in the matter too.
The girl did find it a little too much when he snapped at her. So, fine, perhaps she could've thought through the question but she was curious. How was she supposed to know the exact actions Josh had or had not taken. His thoughts, even. "You're a fire elemental, alright..." she muttered under her breath, telling herself to breathe on the inside. It was just a question and she almost gets barked at. She had to admit, she'd be happier if it was just smirks, shrugs and raised brows. "Relax, it was just a question..." She said still holding a calm tone, just concentrating on breathing. Inhale, exhale, inhale... exhale. Well, this guy was easy to talk to, wasn't he? She had actually wanted to snap at him. Maybe just a little. But no, no... No fighting. They were in a forest. No anger which might resolve in flames. Besides, the lake was nearby, meaning water students might've been near, too. If a fight broke out it might be an older, bigger fire student and a bunch of water kids against one younger, smaller fire student. Well, she was brave but there was no chance she'd win that, really. So yeah, no fighting. Deep breaths...
But she did let go of the thought, when she spotted an adder slithering right past the two of them. Well, it was easy to notice if you paid any attention to the girl. She had gone from deep breaths to complete silence, just interested in the creature. Nope, she wasn't afraid or anything. She just didn't want to disturb it in any way. The snake even used her foot as terrain. She had to admit, it was a weird feeling. Sort of cold, smooth but she could still feel the scales. Interesting, nonetheless. "I hope you're not afraid of snakes, hun." she gave out, seemingly excited about the thing. Well, you never knew. She wouldn't want the guy to get worked up and start shooting fire at the creature. It wouldn't bite anyway. Well, unless you stepped on its tail. Most of the snakes in these parts were not aggressive. Well, the ones she knew of, at least. If they were in some sort of a jungle... that wouldn't be the case.

Freya may have thought herself as the brave and the bold thanks to her fearlessness on the subject of the lake, but all Joshua could think about was how reckless and stupid it sounded. He was cautious and careful by nature, so hearing someone talk about dangerous things made him question their sanity. 'Look before you leap,' could practically stand as one of his many mottos. "Exactly," he remarked dryly, "so why would you jeopardise that one life with something so pointless?" Joshua shook his head, completely unamused by the girl and her oddities. He didn't get along very well with others and this was likely part of the reason. Josh was very opinionated and had the tendency to be snide as well. "Whatever. Do as you will, I don't care." He shrugged and decided he was going to just move on in the conversation from there, because he was sick about discussing the lake considering they were obviously never going to see eye to eye. He hated it, she loved it, end of story.
Joshua was not so controlled as the girl, so the heat continued to possess the area and his gaze continued to smoulder with anger as he narrowed it to a cynical glare. "It was a mindless question," he said almost viciously. "No thought behind it at all." The slightest of things could enrage Josh, and good luck calming him down once you'd got him going. There was an impulsive realisation that his positive perspective of Freya had changed. Well, alright--it had never been positive, but it had at least been neutral. Now he was irked with her, because Joshua truly felt that you should be careful about your words when discussing war. That was like Joshua parading around the school asking the Thunder students if they missed their dead Thunder leader. It was rather insensitive and if she'd taken a moment to consider she might have realised that he wouldn't have let the war go on and allow his friend to suffer if he knew a way to stop it. "I'm sure if she was your friend you wouldn't have been telling me to relax." In fact, telling him to calm down usually made him angrier. There was just no way to win with him.
He was actually shaking softly from the sudden onslaught of anger--the pressure was too much for him to take without some sort of physical wear-and-tear. If he were to blow up at her and attack he'd probably feel a lot better, but Joshua was doing his best not to dig himself into a proverbial grave here. "Why would I be afraid of it?" he said with a frown. There was nothing scary about snakes unless they were poisonous, which he doubted this one was. If it had been a rattlesnake it would have had the rattler at the end of its tail. Then he scoffed. "So you're terrified of a spider, but not of a hissing, biting, possibly dangerous reptile? You make no sense."

So, there were two ways on how to approach this matter… she could give into the annoyance that was slowly but steadily building up in the girl, or she could just … not retaliate for the sake of a conversation. To be honest, he did have a reason to get mad at her. By asking, it might have sounded as if he had not realized they needed a plan. Well, that wasn’t what she meant, really, but she saw how someone with a short temper might’ve misunderstood. If Elly was in his place, she would probably be as ticked off as he was. Well, maybe a little less, taking in consideration that the other person wasn’t treating her with white, fluffy gloves… Oh, it was her fault.
After taking a deeper breath to clear away the urge to snap and defend herself, the girl spoke: ”I’m sorry… The question suggested you weren’t even trying and I’m sorry. I see why you would get mad.” She would’ve added a ‘I don’t blame you.’ But that might suggest he actually cared if she blamed him or not and she wouldn’t want to risk another heat wave. Well, she liked the heat waves but not the ones accompanied by barks. But good. She had kept her calm. Good. Tell you the truth, she was proud of herself.
”I was just asking… sorry.” Yes, she’d apologize. The girl was used to it, really. Living in the fire dorms and fighting off your own anger issues was the cause of this. Living in a dorm full of short tempers, you could either shout most of the time or you could try and see how the heck it was your fault and apologize. No, no, not because of karma or anything of the sort. You apologized in some pathetic attempt to at least get a little closer to peace and harmony. Nowadays it was a little impossible, but still…
Made no sense. How did that make no sense? Why on earth did he even mention that fear of spiders? For some bloody reason, all the memories of that cursed day were flooded back into her mind and throughout the span of a second, it felt like she went through it all once again. ”Well, if your father had lo-“ she began to raise her voice and then sort of… clenched her jaws shut, taking a couple of deep breaths. Oh look at that. Suppressing anger did come with its downs. Her hands curled up half way into a fist, before she calmed herself down. She just… relaxed. Indeed. Relaxed. A word she would now not use when talking to the true fire students. ”We all have our phobias, I suppose. I didn’t pick mine.”
[shorty short… I wonder how that happened… >.>;]

Joshua wasn't too impressed by her attempts to make amends--the moment the graduate decided that he wasn't going to get along with you, his mind was usually made up. He wouldn't be petty enough to sneer or start fights, but he wasn't going to go skipping off into the sunset with Freya and making friends with the fellow Fire girl any time soon. Still, he also didn't have any plans to stand here and whine about how she'd angered him. He tried to handle things with as much self control as possible, it just... usually failed when his temper came into play. "I would say 'it's fine', for the sake of a mediator, but I don't believe it is," he replied smoothly. He wasn't trying to be difficult, he was just being honest with her. Joshua didn't recover from irritation across a couple of seconds. "However, I'd appreciate if we could drop the subject of the war. It'll only cause arguments." He was at least trying to be civil here. It was clearly causing him difficulty due to how tense his muscles were, but Josh was no idiot; if he attacked Freya, he could be bringing the entire wrath of his former alliance upon his head.
Then she snapped at him again when he had been trying not to flip out, and that brought them back to square one. "Surprise, Freya, but the world doesn't revolve around you," he said with a scowl. "I know nothing of your father or your home life, so associating such things with our conversation is pointless unless you expect me to do a background check, which I have neither the means nor patience to do so." He was being a tad sarcastic, but what did she think he was? A mind reader? His curious nature wondered what she'd been about to say, but curiosity was shot down by the anger that was starting to consume him. "No one picks their phobias," he pointed out with a roll of his eyes, "else no one would have phobias. It was an off-handed comment." He did think she was strange, but the snake versus spider thing was only part of the reasoning behind these thoughts. He also just didn't understand her. She didn't seem like a Fire elemental at all, from his perspective. He was still trembling and trying not to lose his cool around her, meanwhile she seemed barely phased. Sure, she was irritated with him, but that was nothing. He'd fell out with one of his closest friends thanks to this war and his temper problems.
Shaking his head, Joshua decided to do the sensible thing--leave. If he didn't get out of here soon, he was going to seriously hurt the poor girl. She might have been brave, but Freya was three years his junior and didn't look like she was much of a fighter. He was six foot three and a graduate. "If you don't mind, I have things I need to be doing," the boy said curtly, well aware that he would be putting off said things until his anger calmed and he could hold a pen straight. "I've got to be going." He cast one last gray-eyed glare in her direction, then slipped through the last small amount of trees--they were on the very edge of the forest now--and onto the school grounds. He had only been partially lying about having things to do. He planned to go home to the mansion and cool off a little, then work on his assignments. This was why he didn't socialise with people; far too much work, not enough benefits on his part. In fact, there were more bad things than good.
[It's fine--the thread wasn't really going much further anyway, so I decided to end <3 You can post again (if you want) and then I'll lock it?]

[Yeah… xD But I had loads of fun And yay! My first, finished Freya thread =D] Well, at first, she thought that this could actually turn out better. But, seeing as it was starting to have a pattern, her anger issues got to mess everything up again. She tried so hard throughout the years. She really had been trying so hard. Keeping it all in, trying to find amusement in situations which should make her mad… and still, still, she couldn’t just throw it aside of control it. If the girl wouldn’t have a lower self-esteem, she might find this even harder. Nope, she would probably find it really hard. Thankfully, she knew how to criticize herself. Well, that wasn’t the best thing for a teenager, but she was sort of glad. It made her realize how she looked when giving into some silly argument only because she was mad. And then… she went running or swimming or did something others would call reckless. In some way, she hopped to get the pressure off. Putting it all out in something”Well, I didn’t really-…” There was really no use in trying now, was there? And… she really sounded like the world revolved around her? Well, perhaps. She did say too much and these stupid outbursts never helped. Great, she screwed up something, again. Just awesome. The blonde could feel her hands curling into fists and her nails digging in her skin by now. Great, she managed to mess up a conversation. A conversation. In the end, she even drove him away. Well, just awesome, wasn’t she? ”Y-… yeah, you go do that.” she gave out, her gaze meeting the ground. Great, she couldn’t even be polite enough to befriend someone of her own element, not to mention leave a positive impression. Why the hell should people count on her if it turned out that she couldn’t even hold her calm for more than five minutes? How was she reliable if she didn’t even know when her anger might burst? ”Oh, and… thanks for leading me out.” she gave out when he had already passed her. Well… now she was mad. Mad at herself, really. And she didn’t feel like going back and ripping apart yet another, innocent pillow or something. She’d just try to sleep on it… Right, or sit in the shower for an hour or so. Chewing on her lip, the girl finally left the forest, heading back to the dorms. No, no, she didn’t really care if people thought of her current outfit as odd… yet it was and she would change as soon as she got to the dorms… Quick steps, quick steps. Well, she was dry, at least?
