Alex heard Nell yelling run right before he was pulled away he threw the water bottle and laughed when it hit the fire elemental in the face. It didnt seem Nell knew where the exit was but he didnt either so he followed her willingly. Alex was panting by the time they got out of the dungeon and away from the fire student. "Way....too....close..." Alexander sat there and regained his breath for a second. "You said something back there i think it was corra or something like that... if its not too much of my asking what does that mean?" Alexander wouldnt be offended or angry one bit if she didnt tell him she had pulled him out of there when she could have left and ensured her safety. "I dont think so i dont feel any burning i mean my feet are warm but thats probably just from running." Alexander said re assuring her that he was fine he decided to look at his feet and saw one of his shoes melting on his foot. "Oh shit!" Alexander said as he rushed to take the shoe off with only getting a little bit of the melting material on his hand he shook it off as soon as he felt it. "F'er burnt my shoe!" Alexander said holding back a grin he tried to act angrily and started walking back towards where they came from. "Im just messing with you I have another pair and these are old anyway." He said tossing the shoe it seemed he would go with one shoe for now until he got back to the dorm where he had another pair. "Y'know you could have went without me all he would have done was burnt me once then probably showed me the dungeon because, *Thats where im staying*" Alex said in all honesty to her he wouldnt have blamed her for running without him he would have even understood her. She would have laughed when Alex threw the water at the Fire elemental had she not been freaking out and totally spazzing. But as they emerged, Nell leaned against the wall and cracked a smile. ”And that’s why we don’t walk around wearing ‘fresh meat’ shirts. Could’ve been much worse.” And that’s what she used to reassure her. They were pretty damned lucky they made it out of there. She blushed at his question, finally realizing that she’d accidentally let a word slip. ”I’m sorry, that was impolite.” Even though she was concentrating on not getting grilled by the guy, she still felt the need to apologize. ”It means ‘run’ in Spanish. I…uh…English and Spanish are both my first language.” She shrugged. Nell had to explain before how it was possible to learn both at the same time, but she had met other Spanish speakers who had done the same. Her father homeschooled her, so while teaching her the English language, he also taught her the Spanish equivalent. It worked out for the better, and she was glad he’d done so. But she really couldn’t think of him without bringing up bad memories.
When Alex said that his feet were warm, she looked down at his shoe and had to resist cursing in panic, for fear she’d let even more Spanish words fly out. He took his shoe off as she asked, ”Are you all right? Does it hurt?” Her eyes were wide and panicked, especially when he said that his foot was burning. But she also noticed his lips twitching up, and then he said he was just screwing with her. ”Don’t do that to me!” But she was smiling and laughing as he tossed his shoe down. ”Would you like to go back to your dorm to get another shoe?” she asked, resisting cracking up at the fact that he was going to go around with one shoe on.
At his words, her eyebrows knitted together. ”I would never leave you behind,” she intoned. ”I don’t care if he would have shown you around afterward, there was no way I’d let you get burnt. I said I got your back, and I do.” Did he honestly think that she’d leave him in the darkness of the dungeons to fend for himself? Nell didn’t care how fearful she was of the place, even if he’d tripped she’d have stayed with him until he regained his composure. But never would she have left him alone. She knew what it was like to be alone in such a dark place. No one should have to experience something like that. Unless they were the Fire and Thunder students who enjoyed it. But that was a different story.

"Yes it could have been much much worse. It wasnt impolite it was just your natural reaction if anything it was impolite of me to ask." Alexander said he found this to be the truth to him while Nell may not belive thats the truth. Alexander listened to her say that english and spanish were both her first language although confused he avoided asking about it as he didnt want to seem rude. "Nah it doesnt hurt its fine." Alex Grinned when she yelled at him not to do that. "Alright i wont purposly scare you like that anymore." His grin only grew bigger when he said that. "Nah i like only having one shoe it makes me feel like one leg is smaller than the other." Alexander said rather seriously he actually did like the way it felt although he wouldnt do it on a daily basis he had a good excuse for today and he may as well take advantage of it. "I know you wouldnt have but I would rather get burnt than both of us burnt may as well get accustomed to it they do hate water freshmen." He could barely say this as he was holding back laughter he was actually suggesting that he should get used to being burnt. "So where to now? I trust you to lead still I mean you did get us out of there."

She was glad he understood that it was simply natural for her. But she didn’t think it impolite of him to ask. After all, he was only curious. Nell answered with a weak wave because she was still recovering from the panic. "Don't worry about it. It wasn’t an impolite question at all—if you have any questions about Spanish, bring them to me," she added on the last part airily so as to assure him that she didn’t mind talking about the language. She did mind talking about the man who taught it to her. But Alex seemed to be shrewd enough about these things.
Alex said he wouldn’t pull her leg like that again. "I've gotten used to Water student behavior, it's no problem," she said with a wink. ”I know you won’t be able to help it.” She didn't take it personally at all and she had a fondness for pranks and jokes, besides. Nell was seriously just glad they got out all right. It was truly the first time she'd ever had problems with Fire students. However, she blinked a few times as he said he would like to walk around with one shoe on, but then cracked up into uncontrollable laughter. ”I’ve never heard someone say that before,” she said, wiping at her eyes as if she’d started crying. ”You’re something else Alex.”
Nell lifted an eyebrow and had the add-on of a lazy smile. ”You shouldn’t get used to it, it’s not fair!” Even still, this would not be the end of his problems. There would be more Fire students out there ready to troll the freshmen. ”But I don’t think you’ll have to worry too much—Fire students tend not to mess with Water ones as much.” But the Thunder students were pretty bad, too, though she didn’t say that out loud. No need to give the freshie more reason to worry.
Nell straightened up and waved her arms as she gestured to the stairs and dungeons when he asked where to go next. "Well, we know to avoid this general area." She turned and faced away. "So I suggest we head this way." She was about to take his arm again so as to act as a tour guide, but she stepped aside as she said, ”Sorry for almost ripping your arm off back there.” She ended that with a nervous chuckle, walking ahead to show that she wasn’t about to try and do it again. Turning back to him, she acquired a mischievous grin. ”Any pranks you’d like to pull? And Nell liked harmless ones that people could laugh off and not get upset about. She took them well, but it was always difficult to tell who else would.

"Okay, Smarty." Alexander grinned trying to make sure she knew he was just kidding. Alex had heard of knowing more than one language but he didnt think most people who learned spanish first talked with such fluency of english, Or at least that he knew. "Oh us water students." Alex smiled when he said this, He didnt know how similar the water students were but he had heard they all liked jokes so he had something in common with them. Alex watched Nell laugh he understood why but he was actually serious it felt kind of weird. "I've never even seen someone with only one shoe walking around.... But then again kids dont just throw flames at you every day. Am i allowed to be something else or do i have to be a stick in the mud?" Alex said this completely truthfully and asked the question as serious as he could act at the moment. "Fair or not, Its still going to happen and you know that." Alex said trying to sound nice. Alex listened to Nell say that they should avoid this general area and suggested where they should go. Alex saw Nell go to take his arm and willingly stuck his arm out. "Its okay i was about to rip your arm off too." Alex said grinning then started walking towards Nell "Not going to be my tour guide now?" Alex said laughed and thought for a minute "Nah its fine no pranks for now."

Nell stuck her tongue out at him when she called her ‘smarty’. It wasn’t a matter of being smart, just a matter of her (douchebag) father being so full of pride that he taught her the language while simultaneously teaching her English. She really wished she didn’t have so many lingering connections with him, but he taught her so many things. She decided to distract herself with thought of the Water students. ”Do you hang out with many of the Water students?” she asked of Alex, curious about how many friends the freshman had.
Laughing, Nell said to him about being a stick in the mud, ”That’s a good thing! You found me doing a handstand in the hallway. Of course you’re allowed to walk around with one shoe on.” He seemed to be very serious about walking around like that, and who was she to stop his fun? She actually enjoyed it, he was pretty interesting, and not to mention funny. A good distraction from other responsibilities that might have otherwise been overwhelming her at the moment.
She ruffled up the back of her hair, and resignedly said, ”I know. It’s not like you can really stop it.” Still isn’t fair though. Just because he was a Water freshman didn’t mean she should have to endure the hazing that upperclassman passed on him. But even if he brought it up with the school, there was only so much they could do. And besides, then he’d be considered a snitch and no one wants to be a snitch.
Nell linked her arm through his once again and said, ”Well, I promise to avoid any sort of limb severing from now on.” At his question of her not being a tour guide anymore, she said, ”We’ve seen how good I am at that!” She really didn’t want to get into any more trouble, and the two of them were pretty much punching bags for anyone who wanted to screw with them. It’s not like Nell was a fighter, and even if the both of them knew kung-fu and could defend themselves, they’d still be no match for a wrathful Fire or Thunder student. ”No pranks? I’m disappointed.” She was actually a bit surprised; water students loved their mischief. But she guessed everyone needed a break from screwing with other people. “Well, if we don’t want a repeat, let’s head outside. I promise that I’m more capable in the outdoors.” Even though it sounded weird that she could find her way more easily when not in the castle. She went around the castle, guiding Alex by the arm as she tried not to become too disoriented by the spacious hallways.
But the doors were always easy enough for her to find, and she headed out. Now thinking of it, Nell turned and asked him, ”Do you have any classes or anything? Wouldn’t want to be getting you into trouble.” She at least tried to be a good student, and she generally was. She didn’t get into trouble, she did all of the work, and kept focused in class. It was easy enough for her to adapt to a school environment, even though it was completely new to her. But that was what she was all about. Adapting and assimilating.

"Only one, when I go back to the dorms i usually just head to bed. This place Is tiring." Alexander said truthfully he knew it wasnt a real reason not to know any water students besides Jacob. "Ya but you had good reason, I just like walking with one shoe on though i could go back to the dorms and get a shoe. Alex decided that soon he would have to go back and get a shoe because your foot getting stepped on when you have a shoe on is a lot less painful than when you dont. Alex laughed when she promised to avoid limb severing. "But then you cant be all like SUPRISE! and rip my arm off and run..." Alexander said trying to act as serious as he could and failing very badly. Laughing during the sentence still from her promise. A few seconds later he stopped laughing and listened to Nell. "Hey, I never said I didnt have any pranks I'm just trying to stay alive for my first school year." Alexander knew that he would actually have to try to not get attacked so he started with pranks and would only do them when he was guarenteed protection, Sure Nell was there, but if he pulled a prank on a fire student without knowing wasnt earth weak against fire? "Okay then outside it is." When they got to the doors Nell asked if he had any classes and Alex relized he did... "I totally forgot I do Im probably already late so I'm going to head back to my dorms and get my shoes then go to class see you later." With that Alexander took off towards the dorm.

”Only one?” That surprised her actually. Alex was a friendly and pretty cool guy. He must have been just adjusting then. ”Instead of sleeping, you should be out getting more friends to back you up when you get into trouble, homes.” She laughed after saying this, though it was true. Friends were good to have—she made plenty of them already this year, and she was glad. Glad she felt like she belonged somewhere. She snorted, and then succumbed to full-on laughter at the mention of his one shoe again. ”True. But it also might be against the dress code, now that I think of it…” Not having considered it before, she paused thoughtfully. Nell didn’t have freshmen orientation, but she was pretty sure a dress code was mentioned somewhere in there. Oh well. Unless there was some strange rule like not allowing collars on shirts, she figured she would be all right without knowing it.
Nell laughed again, matching his own. She would have patted him on the back were her arm free. ”All right, if limb severing can’t be avoided, I’ll make sure to give you fair warning.” When he clarified on the subject of pranking, she nodded. At least he was smart about it. A lot of reckless Water freshmen got in over their heads and ended up in deep shit with some of the less-friendlier students. She didn’t mind pranks—enjoyed them actually—but she was sure a lot of people out there would rather not have practical jokes played on them. And even though Alex had a leg above Fire students, he was still a freshmen and it wouldn’t go over well. ”You’re being smart then. Hopefully it will save you from a beatdown pranks usually get Water students.” She wrinkled her nose, her pacifist heart wondering why people had to get so upset over little things and fight all the time.
After getting outside, Alex realized he in fact did have classes. She almost slapped her forehead with her palm in exasperation. ”¡Ándale!” she said jokingly. Nell knew it to be one a word a lot of people got the general meaning of and English-speaking people even used, like ‘gracias’ and ‘hola’. So she felt more comfortable with saying that. ”It was nice meeting you, though. Hope to catch you again…next time under better circumstances.” As in when she was not suffering from a bad case of the hiccups. As if on cue, her phone vibrated and she saw a text from her friend telling her to head down to the lake, a hangout that was much better when in better weather. But it was something to do, and she went on her merry way, humming a bit in cheery-Nell fashion.
