The dungeons were a complete shit hole in Kelsey’s opinion. Why did a school even have to have one in this day and age? Oh right, that’s where the administration had to dump all of the fire students. Heaven forbid they ever dare trust the rowdy group up by the other students. Had it ever occurred to them that the fights weren’t always their fault? So, Kelsey roamed the damp hallways in search of something that would draw her out of her boredom. She just didn’t expect it to happen so soon. Two younger boys, probably in their first year, were trying to hurl their pathetic attempts of attacks at each other. It was almost sad at how little fire they two were casting towards each other. As she rushed her way over to them she noticed half of the flames died out before even getting close to the other boy. Unfortunately one blow went straight for a boy’s face, the small flame causing him to cry out in pain and grasp his eye. Just in time, Kelsey tore the two away from each other before they could make it any worse. ”What the hell is wrong with you?” she asked in an even tone. She already had enough trouble keeping the Fire kids away from the Earth students, but now she had to deal with this shit?
”We were just practicing our powers on each other because some kids from the Water dorm keep playing pranks on us.” the boy protested. Kelsey rolled her eyes at the young boy’s logic. ”I can swim but it doesn’t mean I’m going to win ten Olympic medals for it. Cut this shit out.” she replied. The two boys shuffled under her gaze. She felt a pang of guilt at the look on their faces. Kelsey stepped forward and pushed the boy’s hair away from his face. One hand held his jaw firmly as the other kept his hair pushed back. His left eyebrow was completely burnt off. He’d be the butt of many jokes until the hair grew back. Her thumb soothed over the slightly red skin as the boy spook up. ”What if I see that kid again? Am I just going to roll over and take it?” Kelsey let out a low chuckle, ”I’ve never hit someone who didn’t deserve it” she said with a bit of a smirk, hoping the cryptic answer was enough to let the boy on. As much as she loved being the Leader, it didn't stop her feeling about revenge. She pulled back from examining the boy and nodded her head towards the end of the hall. ” Head back to the dorms. Get out of here before I change my mind.”
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes again as the boys ran down the corridor out of her sight. These younger kids were going to be the death of her. With Makism nowhere in sight it was up to Kelsey to make sure people stayed in line every now and then. Too much conflict with the other elements and Kelsey would go down as the Leader who started another war. Not on her watch, unless she was the one rolling out the red carpet of whoop ass on those stupid Earths and Waters. She turned on her heel to see that she wasn’t as alone as she thought she was. With one hand on her hip Kelsey arched a delicate brow towards the girl watching her. ”Can I help you?” the slight exhaustion still clear in her voice. Poor girl, it wasn’t her fault she had to see that mess.

Whatever had dragged Kennedy to decide to wander from the heights of the Academy to the bottom floor was beyond her. It reminded her of the Harry Potter book, going into the basements to see the Fire students. The element reminded her a lot of the Slytherin house, now that she allowed her mind to peruse over the subject. She wondered if possibly the author had been an Elemental and had attended an academy such of this one. Maybe that's where she had come up with all her ideas. One just could never know for those who decided to be mundane.
Along with this subject, Kennedy should have realized that she wouldn't be able to go within the dorms and actually visit any of the Fire students. It was strictly off limits. Besides, she hardly even knew where the door was in the first place. She had allowed herself to fall into a light walk, moving through the brisk halls that were almost silent. While Kenny did not need to stay the Academy, home wasn't too far away, she would sometimes spend the weekends at the school to visit with her friends who didn't have relatives in Maple Hollow.
Which made you wonder. If she was staying with her friends, what was she doing wandering the halls alone?
Another long narrative about the going-ons of the weekend would have been placed here, had the attention of the Thunder not been caught by noise at the end of the hall. Two boys, ninth graders most likely, seemed to be trying to start a fight against one another. Neither was truly emotional enough to get anything started, but it appeared one was able to throw some sort of flame that hit the other boy in the face. She would have gone and intervened herself, had an elder Fire not come and broke it up. She could hear the conversation from the boys almost clearly from her position, but the girl was a bit harder to make out. She must have been somebody in charge down here or told the boy's something very threatening as they scurried away. It was almost comical, but Kenny refrained from laughing.
The other girl turned then, focusing her attention on her with an arch of her eye brow and a question. Could the fire help her? Probably not, she figured. She wasn't lost down here, nor did she really need anything that the girl may offer. However, she couldn't just say no and shrug her shoulders. "Those water kids causing trouble again?" she asked, her voice calm as she made a motion to signify she had heard the exchange with the boys as she made her distance from the girl a bit more conversational. "Kennedy Beaufort. Eleventh Thunder," she introduced, holding her hand out to the girl politely. There were some habits one just could not break.

Kelsey stood locked in her position as she gave the younger girl a scrutinizing look. At first glance, Kelsey had taken her for a mousy, meek little thing that wouldn't last long down in the dungeons. The girl put on little moves that tried to prove otherwise; the confidence in her voice, the simple shrugging of her shoulder. Beaufort was not a very common name around this school, though Kelsey knew it well enough. So this was Cassadee Beaufort’s younger sister. A million judgments went through her mind as she continued her little stare down of younger Beaufort. Cassadee was striking in looks, but dully average at schoolwork. Another girl she had to make sure survived the weekend party scene completely intact. There were always worst than her on the list though.
Damn Water kids. Going around thinking they could just carry on smiling in front of all the teachers and pulling pranks when they had their backs turned. At least the Fire students didn’t go around trying to act all sweet before sticking a knife in someone’s back. ”When are they not,” she replied. Now Kelsey was considered old fashioned by today’s standards when it came to what she valued most. She respected three things in life: intelligence, beauty, and outside reputation. Many of her current peers neither proper, intelligent, or reputable and that made them the bane of her existence. But Kennedy, sticking her hand out was far too formal for this day and age. This wasn’t some mock trial at the model UN. She was a thunder though, she had that going for her at least. Kelsey would take the bait for now. ”Kelsey Hennessy, Twelfth Year, Fire.” Her eyes narrowed for a moment as she took on Kennedy’s hand in her own. She dropped the younger girl’s hand and settled for crossing her arms across her chest.
She left put the juicy little tidbit about her positions. Kelsey was much more interested in figuring out what Kennedy’s intention was. She’d pulled the authority card out later if need be. Just because the girl was a Thunder she could get away that easily from Kelsey’s observant nature. It was that precise quality that made her a decent enough student leader. ”Didn’t think your sort enjoyed coming down here much. Wouldn’t you be better suited by the bell tower or near your own dorms?” A small smile settled on Kelsey's face, though she immediately tried to hide it from the newcomer. The Academy time and time again proved to be an enjoyable place for the leader. It was a new school. New teachers to torment that were not her parents. New girls to undermine and fight with just for the sake of showing who was really in control. Would this girl prove to be any problem? Kelsey would need a bit more time with her to get a proper read on the girl. ”You’re not here to cause trouble now are you?” Probably not, as much as the Earths and Thunders hated each other they could be quite alike sometimes. Thunders most certainly stay out of trouble better than her own student peers.

Kennedy was aware of the way the girl was looking at her. Closer up, she was probably in the grade above her or maybe even a younger college student. She wondered what she saw when she looked at her. Did the Fire girl see her sister, a younger embodiment, looking back at her? Did she not make the connection through the names, much like Hunter had not too long ago. Living in the shadow of somebody like Dee was hard work, especially those who she had managed to anger. Kenny hoped this girl was not one of them.
Apparently, the water kids gave the fire kids the same amount of crap they would sometimes spout towards the thunders. While it was somewhat stupid for them to start something with the underdog side, some of them just seemed to not be able to calculate anything about standing a chance against their adversary. The girl introduced herself as Kelsey Hennessy, a twelfth grade fire. She would know Dee then. Fantastic. Maybe they were good friends! That might get her out of some trouble if she wasn't supposed to be down here. The girl returned the handshake, but seemed a bit out of place about it. She made a mental note not to offer hand-shakes again to other students.
The girl continued to say that she didn't expect "her sort" to come down here, asking if she came to start trouble. Kennedy smiled. "Not here to cause any sort of ruckus, just wanted to see what the dungeons looked like," she explained, giving a nod towards the direction she had come. "The upper-levels of the Castle are set in stone, so to speak. You know where everything is. But the dungeons take a bit more time of wandering to try and get your bearings," she explained, though the tone was musing. Was that the reason that she had come down here? Simply to explore the Academy? No doubt the Thunder had enough time to do this for a while in her past few years at the Academy, but it seemed like a valid explanation.
However, the girl's last name was nagging at her. She had heard it somewhere. Had Makism said something about her? Maybe Dee in one of her random spouts of actually speaking to her. "I feel like I've heard your name before," Kennedy admitted, biting her lip in thought as she tried to figure out where she had heard it before. "Have you hung out with Cassadee or Makism?" she finished. If it wasn't those two options, then she wasn't quite sure why the name would be familiar to her.

Surprisingly enough the girl didn’t squirm all too much underneath the older student’s critical glare. Too bad, Kelsey was really looking forward to flexing her intimidating muscles a bit to relieve a bit of stress. Looks like she’d have to find another target for the evening. Cassadee in Kelsey’s book was a neutral, kept in decent enough graces merely because she was a fire student such as herself. Outwardly, Kelsey was civil to the girl. Her complete preference of partying over schoolwork was what bothered the leader. Had the older Beaufort simply concentrated a tiny bit more effort to her classes rather than drunken hook ups then she could have been even better in Kelsey's eyes. Partying seemed to be the easy choice for everyone around here.
The appeal of exploring the dark hallways was lost on the blonde. ”They’re damp, sweaty, and depressing,” she answered dryly. ”So the only tourist attraction worth mentioning is that most of the time it’s perfect for fights or selling drugs.” she added, again her tone rather blunt. Teacher’s usually abounded the dungeons on their patrolling routes and left it to the Fire Leaders to pick up their slack. They didn’t want to deal with bigger problems when they could be upstairs yelling at kids without hall passes. ”If you want to get lost and dehydrate in a maze, then you’ve found your dream location.” Kelsey wasn’t entirely convinced of Kennedy’s motives. Only passing Fire students and troublemakers really spent anytime learning the layout of the underground. They pretty much had to in order to get to their dormitories safely. Kelsey’s had found a few ninth years wandering around desperately at night because they still hadn’t learned the layout of the halls. She was hoping as the term went on there would be less frightened stowaways huddling in dark corners at midnight. ”Word of the wise, lose the sweatshirt. The longer you stumble around this shit hole the more it starts to feel like an oven.” Kelsey herself had to switch out of her winter clothes and dig to find what she was wearing. Thank God she was able to find a pair of shorts this early in the school year.
A wicked looking grin danced across Kelsey’s face. Just lovely. So her reputation was starting to grow around school. Nothing does the ego good like a little name recognition. To say she was proud of herself was an understatement. ”Has Dee been talking about me then?” she asked. Any talk, was good talk, even if it meant the other Fire was complaining about Kelsey. Had she informed the little Beaufort about her high academic standings – perhaps the highest in the school- or was she complaining about Kelsey’s new position? Kelsey wasn’t sure how all of the Fire girl’s felt about her appointment to the role, but it had to have been an obvious choice. Kelsey had the highest grades in the school, and unlike most of her current peers, understood how to have a decent time without making a complete drunken fool of herself in the process.
”Or was it Makism, talking about how many times I’ve already had to save his ass this year by taking up his responsibilities every now and again?” Makism was a year younger than all other Leaders. Personally Kelsey wasn’t a fan of that. Though Makism could really change anything about his age, it did make the Fire students seem weak in the other Leader’s eyes. As if the Fire’s were such a terrible group of kids they didn’t have at least one decent twelfth year boy to carry up the mantle. ”Because he should be kissing my feet rather than talking shit. I doubt the other Leaders would do the same for him.” So Kelsey had to force her hand early than she wanted to. Maybe now Kennedy would understand why Kelsey had been down in the dungeons herself.

Apparently, the reason of wanting to explore the dungeons was not a valid one. Kelsey explained that it was damn, sweaty, depressing, and place for pretty much anything bad that was going to happen. The fire leader was sarcastic and blunt, something that was sort of putting her off. Kennedy wasn't somebody to really take crap from people, especially people she had just met. In Kennedy's own opinion, the dungeons were dark and cold, but not really depressing. She had yet to get lost, nor get a headache from dehydration, nor did she want to take off her sweatshirt. But the girl's mood was rubbing off on her.
"No, you're right. I totally came down here to punch the lights out of somebody and get high," she replied, rolling her eyes and her voice with a tinge of sarcasm. Perhaps Kennedy was just masochistic, but she sort of liked the dark and eerie aura that the dungeons leaked. It brought her back to reality, let her realize that she wasn't alone in this cruel world as she traveled through the empty corridors and saw skeletons sitting in the cells. What treasures would she find in their pockets, should she slip through the bars and look through the clothes that hung loosely from their bodies held together by the ligaments and tendons that hadn't worn away like their skin had drawn tight against their inner-frame work.
Apparently, asking if Makism or Dee was one of her friends wasn't really a good question. The girl seemed all to pleased that Kennedy had heard of her. While reputation making its sounds was always a good thing, Kelsey seemed to think that Kenny knew of her more than her name sounding familiar. Whatever this girl was known for, it probably wasn't the party scene. Otherwise she would have heard the name from Caleb or Hunter. Despite what she was wearing, which was far to revealing for Kennedy's tastes, the Fire didn't seem like somebody who would frequent parties.
Kelsey seemed adamant about figuring out where Kennedy had heard the name from. She referred to her sister as Dee, not Cassadee, so they must at least be acquaintances. She went on to ask if Makism had been praising her as well and then revealed that she was the female Fire leader. Well then, this made sense. "No, I remember your name being mentioned as the Fire leader," she explained, giving a smirk. "I was friends with Altair so I was curious as to who would be taking over after her," the young Thunder explained, shifting a bit. "I'm assuming you are opposite of her in every way, however," Kennedy finished, giving a slight smirk.

Kelsey tried her best to hide the annoyance of her mood and drew her lips into a tight line. The grip of her fingers wrapped around her crossed arms tightened as she fought back the urge to physically rebuttal and put Kennedy in her place. Again, the alliance had been a savior. ”Then I can’t wait until that day comes for you. Your tongue and cheek will be much appreciated.” What Kelsey wanted to say was Kennedy should sort herself out and stop acting like a cock. Especially since she wasn’t on her own home turf. One wrong turn coupled a cold shoulder from the Leader and Kennedy would be looking for help from her older sister. ”Nasty things dwell in dark corners,” she warned again. Enough advice, Kennedy’s future choices were on her now.
Seriously? The name didn’t ring anymore of a bell in the hallways? This was just a classic case of Kelsey thinking she was hot shit, like usual. She just needed everyone else to realize it as well. Her type A personality was more of a burden when it came to establishing decent relationships and impressions with others, but had proven to be more than useful when acquiring accolades. She was no ‘The People’s Leader’ but she was the best one for the job. ”Yeah, well…that’s me.” Fine then, Kelsey would just have to work ten times harder to get her name out there. By the time she went to the college level she wanted her name to stir some more reactions than just a passing shrug.
Kelsey’s all knowing smirk faltered a bit at the mentioning of Altair and Kennedy’s relationship. Kennedy was friends with the old leader and Altair couldn’t even remember Kelsey’s last name? Damn straight she was the next in line to shepherd the rowdy troublemakers. Now she just needed to win over the older students, as well as her predecessor. Kelsey didn’t hold many people above herself, but Altair certainly was an exception. The girl was pretty, fierce, controlling, and left no room for second-guesses. All in all, a role model for her now that she was going to spend a year on top. Kelsey’s jut her jaw out a bit and reexamined the girl in front of her. Suddenly there was something a little different about her. ”So you know Altair,” she mused, a bit more approval laced in her voice. Kelsey wouldn’t mind to be compared to Altair by any means. ”I’d like to think I’ve taken up her mantle well enough. Pretty big shoes to fill.” And she meant every word of it. ”How did you get to know Altair?”

Kennedy hadn't meant to start slipping in to the bad graces of the Fire leader. Kenny was one to get on the good sides of anybody with power, even if she really despised the person personally. Politics, something that Kennedy might have gone into should she not have an absolute aversion towards history and the general acts of the parties. Sure, she could be rather persuasive and could almost always accurately predict the effects to whatever cause she may thrust forward into the world. But she would never become a politician. That was why she made friends who were, so to speak. She could help without being directly in charge of it. It was perfect.
Like now, she could sense Kelsey was upset with her. She was annoyed, contemplating, dangerous. The Thunder hadn't heard too much about the Fire, but she knew enough that she needed to watch her step and not piss her off to much if she was going too at all. Kelsey commented that she hoped that the day would come for her that she would be able to accomplish her 'tasks' in the dungeon. She warned again about the dungeons before she seemed done on trying to assist Kennedy with her choices. Which was fine by her. She knew what she was doing, even if it wasn't the best of ideas for either of their well-beings.
Kelsey's name didn't really ring a bell in the hallways unless you were a fire or the occasional enemy. It wasn't her fault, people in this school just didn't give a care about anything that did not directly effect them. She had to either be a radical or a complete and utter nerd for the whole populous to actually acknowledge the fact that somebody existed universally. Have you done something reckless, absolutely stupid, or almost died in the past few days? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then chances are the majority of the school knows your name, if not your face.
The look on her face changed slightly as she mentioned Altair. Oh, so knowing the ex-Fire leader was either a very good thing or a very bad thing. Whether holding Kelsey up to that light was pushing things too far she would find out. Altair and Kennedy weren't really tight, rather they would occasionally hang out and talk from time to time. Kennedy figured she wasn't the Fire's first choice of a friend, especially because she had graduated, but she considered her more than an acquaintance.
Kelsey seemed to approve that Kennedy knew Altair. It was a big show to fill, stepping in to take over your sector of the school. But somebody had to do it. As for how she got to know the ex-Leader... That was a long story. "Just meeting here and there. She's actually quite pleasant should you get on her good side," Kennedy said easily, giving a shrug. She knew a lot of people were intimidated by Altair, but Kennedy was not entirely scared off by her attitude. It was somewhat inspiring. "But we're pretty good friends. We don't hang out all the time but I know if I needed to I could call her up."
This was Kennedy's saving grace, the connecting with Altair. All she had to do was keep in this good side with Kelsey now and she'd be free to continue on her way knowing she didn't make a new enemy today.

Not hearing any sort of comeback from Kennedy meant a small victory for Kelsey. Call it a stroke to her massive ego, but it was a good move on Kennedy’s part since Kelsey was still testing the water with the Thunder girl. It all started with some lip from a kid and having it snowball into full-blown rebellion of power. All she needed was one sadistic, cunning, dissolute, crooked, sordid, lack of morals thug throwing a stick in her spokes and making her look like a fool. Kelsey had a feeling though that Kennedy wasn’t that kind of person. She was probably just a sardonic and witty girl who crossed paths with a similar type A personality.
She did feel a pang of jealousy as Kennedy went on about her friendship with Altair. All Kelsey wanted was the approval of the ex-Leader. It was a rare concept for her, but she was desperate for her endorsement for some reason. Usually her outlook was ‘Fuck I’m good, just ask me.” Something about the older girl unsettled her cocky attitude. ”Lucky you,” she replied honestly. Kelsey’s first and only run in with the ex-Leader was intimidating and almost felt like an interrogation. She wasn’t quite sure is she past the tough inspection with flying colors.
She needed to learn what it was about Kennedy that got the Bennett seal of approval. Changing her tune, Kelsey nodded towards the dark corridors. ”If you really want a proper tour of the dungeons you should have a fire show you the way. Seeing as I’m here all ready and have to do runs you could always tag along.” She would try to win over the younger girl. The worst thing that could happen was that she might actually enjoy her time with her. Kelsey’s steps echoed in open space as she began to make her way back to rounds. She didn’t bother waiting to see if Kennedy responded or not, let alone followed. If she did, she did, and Kelsey didn’t any vocal confirmation. ”So I take it Cassadee hasn’t opened you up to what it’s like down here.” She had a gut feeling that Kennedy was a bit different from her sister. Kelsey prayed for it.
Sorry it's so short. It seems I'm not on point today. I promise the next one will be ten times better.

Kennedy figured that her and the Fire leader could mesh. It was just how she was. If Kenny should want to get along with somebody, she simply allowed herself to blend. Like a chameleon, some would say. According to post therapists, this was the result of wanting to people please. You wanted people to approve of you, therefore you changed into somebody that the person would approve of. Which you could see a lot in the Thunder. Around Caleb and Hunter she was more daring and adventurous, around Aren she was joking and laughing, and around Naima she was somewhat mysterious and bookish. Each person, a slightly different personality to fit better with them.
It might have been this, or just her tendency to suck up to people in charge, that got her in good sites with Altair. Honestly, the Thunder had no idea how much a friendship with the elder Fire would have meant to Kelsey. It surprised her that the girl seemed honest when she said that Kennedy was lucky for finding a friend in Altair. She would tuck this information into her little "filing-cabinet" of a brain and save it for when she needed it. Maybe she'd put a good word in for Kelsey to Altair, should it benefit her later. Because that's what Thunders were. Out to serve themselves.
So, it was with that instance of approval, that Kelsey went from absolutely wanting the Beaufort to leave the dungeons and go home to actually offering a tour of them. With the offer, the Fire turned and started walking. She expected her to follow, that was evident, and Kennedy considered for a moment up and leaving. Of course, that would not serve her purpose at all. Instead, she padded off after the Fire leader, catching up to her just as she asked about Cassadee and her lack of touring the dungeons with her little sister.
Thinking about it, it seemed a reasonable request. However, Kennedy allowed a scoffing laugh to escape her lips. "Dee and I aren't want you would say... Close siblings," Kennedy admitted. Anybody who knew the two would say that, despite their similar appearance, you wouldn't connect the two to be siblings at all. "I like books, she likes boys. I like being alone, she likes parties," Kennedy trailed off, giving a shrug. The things she stated were general knowledge to those that she knew, so she didn't really feel weird putting herself under those categories. Fitting her stereotype, so to speak. "We're two totally different peas in the same pod," Kenny finished with her bizarre metaphor before glancing at Kelsey.
"What about you? What are you like?" she asked curiously, simply because she didn't like having the attention on her. Kennedy didn't like focusing on herself and Kelsey seemed the type of person who liked being able to talk about herself and to be known. So, to be on the good side of said person, it would be obvious to give them as many compliments and chances to talk about themselves as you could.

Kelsey had little doubt the younger girl would follow after her, her ego clouding the possibility that anyone would turn down her offer. Kelsey had little to no experience dealing with people who had siblings, nor did she give it much thought when meeting different family members. So as Kennedy went on about how different she was from Cassadee it was hard to hide her surprise. Long ago she had assumed siblings close in age ended up enjoying similar things and never gave it much more thought. Without a large age gap between them it only seemed logically. Unbeknownst to the leader the need to stand out from another sibling was a huge factor in growing up. In Kelsey’s household she had no one else to compete with. Kelsey was glad she didn’t have to deal with the drama of siblings. Heaven forbid she had to deal with someone as terrible as her cousin on a daily basis. ”Must be difficult to have to live with someone so different.” Had she not been related Kennedy could just walk away from Cassadee whenever she bothered her. Forced relationships left a sour taste in the blonde's mouth.
The leader paused a bit with her stride when Kennedy asked about herself. She wasn’t really expecting the girl to turn the conversation back on her. Not that she minded. ”Other than being the elected Leader, I am the top in my class academically, if not within the whole Academy.” Her fingers came up to tousle her mane of wavy blonde hair a bit. One hand lingered for a moment over the small batch she had shaved by her left ear on impulse. Usually Kelsey’s actions were planned out, rational, and with purpose. Too bad for her parents when they saw her little rebellion against the Hennessy’s idea of normal. It had grown on her and she maintained the small buzzed patch when it threatened to be too long or awkward. She continued her walk as she went on about herself. ”Before I even came to the Academy I was being home schooled on Ontology, Proof Theory, and beginning to dive into the concepts of modern problems in Neurochemistry. Schoolwork here is a bore and predictable.” Her parents couldn’t offer Kelsey any training on her powers that made the institution a must. Had she not been blessed with her gift over fire she would still be at home and looking into outside Universities to apply to.
”Study, Work, Sex, Parties. In that order and with no exceptions.” Kelsey knew her word choice and delivery were frank, but that was just how she was with everyone. It was the on thing both enemies and friends could predict from the twelfth year. Unless playing coy could benefit her in some substantial way, she had no time for games. It was easier in her opinion to gain control with brutal honesty instead of tricking people into things. At least it was cleaner that way. ”I’d rather read up on the newest science journals rather than catch the hottest movie. And if someone is better than me at something, then I don’t rest until I can remedy that.” It almost felt like one of those cheesy moments in movies when people went on a blind date. Sort of like she was naming off stats about herself to Kennedy. ”And I’m a classic example of an only child so I can't relate to you on how it must feel to live with someone like Cassadee,” she said smirking at Kennedy. No point denying the truth. On some levels being the only child had it’s positives.

Kennedy didn't really mind the differences between her and Dee. While the younger sister knew where she was going, she doubted that Dee had any really big plans for her future. If she had something she was pursuing, she hadn't really shown the family what it would be. Several months into the future, Dee would be going to "college" at the Academy or leaving Maple Hollow. While both had it's equal pulls, Kenny hoped her elder sister would stay in the Hollow. While they didn't always get along, she felt that her sister leaving would be very saddening for her.
"It's not too difficult. We give each other space to be ourselves," she replied easily. While space was understating the amount of distance the two had from each other, Dee still was her elder sister. She helped her in the ways that she could and Kenny was thankful that she didn't absolutely hate her. They had gotten off on the wrong foot ever since she had told their parents that Dee was planning on sneaking out to a party they had said no to. It was a lose lose situation, but they had gotten past it for the most part. Kennedy stayed out of her life and Dee kept from bringing her life to Kennedy's lap.
Kelsey took nicely to being asked about herself. While she spoke, Kennedy listened and took her own mental notes about the Fire leader that may help her later. Top in her class, much like Kennedy was for hers. She doubted that, since the Fire had gone through one more school year, that she would not be above her. Apparently, even at thirteen or fourteen, she was already going through advanced subjects. Like Kennedy, Kelsey found the subjects at school boring. If there were more advanced classes and whatnot, it would have been a lot more fun, especially for those people who had an intelligent bone in their body.
Her likes apparently consisted of studying, work, sex, and parties. It was sort of bizarre that sex came before parties in her book. Typically, didn't one get sex from going to parties or at least flirting with somebody? It didn't really make a difference to Kelsey, but it was sort of weird in Kennedy's book that somebody who was so work and studying focused, plus top of the class, had the last two items on their list at all. Maybe Kenny was just doing her life wrong. It was perfectly reasonable that she was just too nerdy to actually attract anybody. That, or too vicious.
Kelsey also shared her view of reading over movies and competitive nature. They were like two peas in a pods. She imagined if either she was more like Dee or Cassadee was more like Kennedy, she would have been able to pass off as some sort of twin to the Fire leader. Except she was an only child. Kennedy wasn't quite sure how she was going to respond to all that, except for stating the obvious. Kelsey seemed to like to be straight-forward, so she might as well be so with her. "We have a lot in common," Kennedy stated, giving a smirk before she added. "Minus the sex," the last part was like a little jab with a tinge of joking in it, not meaning to insult the fire but make a point.

Siblings almost sounded a bit boring from Kennedy’s perceptive. Where were all the stories about backstabbing, blackmail and all that jazz? TV made it sounds like everyone with brothers and sisters lived a cheesy soap opera. ”So you avoid each other to get along?” Clearly this was not Kelsey’s area of expertise. Continuing to walk down the halls Kelsey took a turn down one of the long hallways. To those observing it may have looked like a never ending maze, but Kelsey knew exactly where she was going.
It was an interesting that Kennedy thought the two were similar in ways. She must have really been different from her sister. ”Do we now?” It was rare at this age for someone in the fire elemental alliance to have a levelheaded mindset. Most of the fire kids tempers seem to cool down the older they got. Right now she was dealing with a mixed bag of volatile fighters. She’d have to stop talking down about them in her head. She’d much rather have fighters on her side than a pussy like the whole lo of the Earths. ”That’s a shame,”she teased. Did this girl just admit she was a virgin to Kelsey? Pretty strange confession for a person she just ran into. Kelsey took the opportunity to see how Kennedy would react to a conversation on the matter. She hoped to cause the girl to blush at bit, or at least catch her off guard.
”Are you waiting for ‘the one?’” Heaven help her if she was. Not like the first time really meant anything to Kelsey. It merely stratified an urge. All creatures had it and whoever denied the need was a liar. ”Don’t wait too long, or else you’ll be stuck a forty year old virgin. With loads of cats.” A mental image of an old woman tending to dozen of cats popped up in Kelsey’s mind, causing her to shiver. ”Oh God, save yourself now from smelling like wet cat food.” Talk about a waste of a life that would be.

Of course, Kelsey wouldn't know the full stories of backstabbing and blackmail that siblings went through from the Thunder's story. There had been plenty of times that Kennedy had back-stabbed her sister, though not on purpose, and she was sure Dee would use anything she could get her hands on for blackmail against her should something happen again. "Not exactly to get along," she explained, trying to figure out how it was. "It's like... Hanging out with that one friend who, in short amounts of time and without other people around, is super duper awesome. But when you hang out too long or other people are around..." Kennedy tried, giving a nod to say that she agreed with this analogy.
It was like too much of a good thing. If you had it too often, or too much, you didn't like it as much. Not that she believed Dee was a good thing in her life all the time, nor would she refer to her sister as such, but it was a good idea to go along with it. A way to organize her thoughts with a framework, though in a different context.
In Kennedy's mind, it wasn't too interesting that she considered Kelsey and her similar. She made a comment about something being a shame. Whether it was the fact that sex was not in her top favorite things to do, though it was apparent that the Fire had assumed she was a virgin. Bizarrely enough, talking about that sort of subject didn't really bother her too much. After all, she would have to want to get out there if she wanted to do something like that.
Kelsey asked if she was waiting for the one. Yeah, she had definitely assumed from her statement, Kennedy concluded. The elder Fire advised her not to wait too long and saying to 'save herself now'. The Thunder gave a laugh, shaking her head. Kennedy doubted she'd make it to forty without hooking up with somebody. If she really wanted to go out and have sex, she would have agreed that night with Caleb. As it were, she didn't. She would rather stick her nose in a book than get into a relationship like that with somebody. Even if it was just a one-night stand. Honestly, the last thing she wanted was something happening and ending up pregnant.
"Well, you have to have a guy before you can do it, don't you?" she explained, arching a brow at the girl. Her nonchalance in the area, though awkward when it came to any physical sign of affection, was a stark contrast. "Most girls are not good at balancing school work and being attractive enough for guys to really pay attention to them," she explained, though it was obvious she was not directing this at Kelsey. The Fire seemed to have that under control. Kennedy was referring to all the nerds out there, who couldn't get a guy even if they wanted one. So was the life she had chosen.

Super duper might not have been the word choice Kelsey would have used but the message was received by the Fire leader. Kelsey quite contently led the way through the halls, confident in her knowledge of where they were going. Was there anything special she should have been pointing out to Kennedy? Other than various dead ends the only thing of interests were the Fire dorm and the exits. Had Kennedy proven to be annoying she would have just left her in one of the dead ends and walked away clear of conscious. Something about the younger girl made her all right in Kelsey’s book. It wasn’t just the fact that she had won over Altair, but that certainly did help in not writing her off completely.
The more the Thunder spoke the more Kelsey realized she might not have been as helpless as other students. Her answers so far were clear and concise with no fumbling or pointless attempts at interjecting small talk when not needed. Kennedy so far knew when she should talk and when things didn’t need any drooling explanation. And when Kennedy went on about needing a guy in her life before she could have sex, Kelsey for the first time today genuinely laughed. ”Yes, once Prince Charming comes riding in on his white stallion and rescues you from the nasty savages, then and only then can you make love,” she said between laughs. ”You left out the bit about you being funny earlier…” Once she calmed down a bit she noticed Kennedy wasn’t sharing in on the joke.
She gave Kennedy a look of disbelief. ”Oh shit, you were serious weren’t you?” Wait around for a boyfriend to lay out roses and junk before sealing the deal? What was this girl living in, the 50’s or one of those terribly cheesy country songs? At this rate the poor girl was never going to get laid. Doing her best to try and look somewhat apologetic Kelsey asked, ”Are you interesting in anyone?” Maybe she needed a push to get herself out of the books and out on the scene. God knows Kelsey did the first year she showed up at the Academy. ”Are you sure you’re related to Cassadee? You obviously weren’t kidding when you said you two were different. To each their own I guess...” Not that the older Beaufort was some partying slut. Come to think of it, she never really heard stories worse then the average hook up for Dee. Apparently the other Beaufort didn’t put out either.
