Under its old management, Joshua had sworn off the idea of ever coming into Maple Hollow's most well-known music store. His fellow Fire graduate had not been someone with whom Joshua had gotten along (in fact, they'd fought quite often) and so he had decided that it was probably best to avoid the place. It had long since fallen into new hands, however, and Joshua was beginning to think a visit to the place was long overdue. He might not have been as passionate about music as someone like his best friend Lark but he definitely had an appreciation for it. He could play guitar and his mother had started to teach him how to play the piano and so he wasn't completely ignorant. "Yo, you said you wanted a new kit, right?" His cellphone was held lazily against his ear by the couch as Joshua stared up at the ceiling, chatting to one of his buddies over the phone. "Yeah, what about it?" The Fire sat up and readjusted the phone so he could hear better. "Want to go check out the music store? I'm bored, I want to pick up a few albums." His friend mumbled something in agreement and Joshua hung up, having arranged to meet him at the location. With that said and done, the graduate headed out into the garage to where his white Aventador awaited him. He always likened the Lamborghini to some sort of predator crouched in the darkness because really, that's what it looked like. Josh smirked at the thought and turned on the heat as he shut the door, wanting to chase away the bitter chill of winter.
The Fire was pretty patient with his friends but when his buddy didn't show up for around ten minutes (his house wasn't that far) Josh was prone to assume that something was up. He wasn't too miffed considering he and the other boy weren't what you could call 'close', it would have been different if Devin or Teddy were to snub him. Shrugging it off, he decided to go off on his own in the rather large place. He passed the drum kits they'd discussed over the phone but didn't pause, knowing little to nothing about them himself. All he knew was that they were fucking loud and that the college roomies he'd once lived above in a shitty apartment building had a drum kit in their living room. They liked to play. Loud. He liked drums but not when he was trying to sleep or study, thank you very much. He was more than happy to be back in the mansion with its thick walls and no directly adjoining neighbours. So, passing the offending objects, Joshua found himself in the CD section. The guitars were a little further down and he planned to check them out, too (he had a few of his own but it never hurt to look) but he had time to kill, browsing couldn't hurt. He had another friend who was in the habit of going to stores and picking out two or three random CDs and buying them, seeing if she enjoyed the music. Josh didn't think he could do that. Both of them were rich (Josh actually had more money than she did) but he preferred to mull over a band before he bought their stuff. Speaking of which, he picked up Is This It by The Strokes, lips twitching. I wonder when they're playing next. Maybe I could get tickets... He was quite fond. Blinking as he noticed someone else was nearby, he said, "Ah, sorry," and stepped out of the way in case they wanted to get by or have a look.
[Wow, excuse the crappy starter .-. Next post will hopefully be better xD]

As of late, Laken’s aunt had been paying less and less attention to where she was and what she was doing. Because of this it had been relatively easy for her to get out of the large house and make her way to the music store. She had an odd love for music. Not odd because of the music in general, but because of the type of music she liked. Most of the time she wasn’t able to find what she was looking for at the local store, but she always tried there first, it would be much cheaper in the long run if they had what she wanted in stock.
She had started her search on one end of the store and had slowly progressed her way to the other. At this point she was growing rather bored, knowing that no matter how many times she browsed through every CD and album the store had to offer it was unlikely that she would be able to find what she needed. This time around she was looking for a Fugazi album, it was the last one she needed to complete the collection and frankly she didn’t care if it was vinyl or a CD as long as she had it. Granted, Vinyl would probably be what she got if she had to order it off the internet, but that wasn’t really an issue – it wasn’t like she couldn’t afford it.
She was on one of the last rows now and couldn’t finish moving down it because some dunderhead had decided that he was going to day dream about whatever band he was looking at. Finally, after what seemed like forever, he deemed it appropriate to move and apologize. Rolling her eyes, she gave a soft sigh, ”Whatever,” she muttered as she moved in to look at the CD’s he’d been blocking. Personally, she enjoyed The Strokes, but they weren’t her favorite by far. She stared intently for a moment before huffing lightly as she began to go through every individual CD. If she owned this store, she would at least take requests on what to order, something they didn’t seem to do very often around here. As she looked she glanced back towards the man a few times before deciding that maybe, just maybe, she could use him to help her in a mildly obscure manner, ”Do you know the band Fugazi?” she asked plainly. If he knew of the band, there was a chance he might know where their music would be located in the store, if he didn’t, well, then she’d just point out that he was a waste of space and move on. It was all rather simple, really.

Joshua arched an eyebrow at the younger girl and her attitude, wondering what side of the bed she'd woken up on that morning. He was a Fire elemental and not an incredibly social person at that but he also disliked when people were rude to him. "You know," he pointed out a little dryly, "there's such a thing as asking someone to move." He wasn't omniscient and her presence was not so infectious that he'd become aware of it the moment she walked into a room. He also had manners and would have moved aside if she'd asked him to, but then again, there was a chance he might have stayed still just to spite her if she addressed everyone in that tone. God damn it, was he getting old or something? "Don't take that tone with me!" It sounded like something his mother would said when scolding him for being his usual, stubborn self. He was twenty, he wasn't forty. Still, maybe that was just what maturity did to a person. You started to realise just how nasty some younger teenagers could get. To be fair, a lot of people his own age were just as bad. Maybe people never really grew up and they just convinced themselves that they were mature and that they could tell other people off because they'd lived on the planet longer. Whatever.
Shaking his head, Joshua turned his attention to a different section of CDs in the row that she'd just come from, not wanting to start an argument by going and standing in her way again. He was irritable but not exactly antagonistic. Those had been his teenage days when he was thirteen years old and a real handful for anyone he decided he didn't like. It was almost hypocritical that he made a comment on Laken's behaviour when it was exactly the same thing he'd have done when he was fourteen and cocky. He had already slid the CD he'd previously been handling back in front of the little white tab that read 'THE STROKES', surprised that it had actually been under the correct category. It seemed to be a consistent theme in music stores that the tabs were everywhere but where they should be and the albums were much the same. It also seemed like a lot of record stores had genre confusion, filing a shitty pop band under an even shittier metal band, sticking black under white and all the other unspoken crimes of the music universe. He was about to pick up another album (the girl beside him flicking through CDs of her own) when she spoke, and Josh turned his gray eyes on her for a moment.
The question was simple enough and he didn't have to pause to answer it, merely nodding curtly. "I do, yeah." They were pretty good, in the same vein of the music he usually listened to. Joshua liked music with a lot of guitar, good riffs and solos and all that. The other instruments had to be decent as well, of course, and he wouldn't listen to a band if their lead sounded like a dying whale, but guitars were his favourite. It was probably because he could play guitar and so he understood and appreciated the complexity of some music, the art that went into creating a song. Some thought only about the lyrics and that was a bit ignorant. A song was a piece of art, every component contributing to a part of a whole. He wasn't thinking about that right now, however. His thoughts were on the girl and her question. "Why?" He added this after only a half-second pause, not having given any time for speech in between. The girl didn't seem like the sort of person that would start conversation in a music store for the sake of getting to know people. In all fairness Josh wasn't that type either, though he was curious as to her actual intentions if this was not the case.

She let a small snicker cross her lips as she looked up at him with a slightly arched brow. She really had no intention of replying to him, though she felt that what she felt in response to what he was saying was rather plain. She wasn’t so egotistical that she believed that someone ought to automatically know when she was standing behind them, but she also had the courtesy to not stand in front of one section for too long. She really couldn’t stand people that didn’t see that they shouldn’t go somewhere not knowing what they’re looking for. She flicked her hand through her dual toned hair and straightened her Zelda tee before bringing her amber eyes to the males gray.
Her facial expression was actually relatively shocked when he said that he did know Fugazi. Around these parts, she didn’t really know that many people that listened to the same type of music as her. If things were a hell of a lot different, this might actually be someone that she’d be willing to have a full conversation with. As it stood, she was a fire elemental and wasn’t entirely sure how she felt about even beginning to have a conversation with someone when she wasn’t sure who they were. What if he was a water elemental? Or even worse, an Earth elemental. Ugh, that would just be utterly horrible, and to think that other people might actually see her conversing with him. That would really be the worst moment in her life, if she were marked a traitor to the only people she could really claim to care about because of a conversation in a music store.
”I’m looking for their Red Medicine album, it’s the only one I don’t have.” she said with a small shrug as she glanced around, making sure that no one she knew was around. Granted, the only people she really knew were older thunder and fire elementals. She would probably know people by their family names when she got to the academy, but beyond that, she didn’t really know anyone that was even near her own age, she just wasn’t the type of person that wanted to socialize with people when she hadn’t had a chance to make a decision about how she felt about them. Taking a breath she tilted her head slightly to the side, ”You haven’t seen it, have you? It’s cheaper to get it here than online,” She really hoped that he wouldn’t take her words as her not having the money to pay for the album, because she definitely had it, she was just a lot more frugal with it than most girls her age would be. The fact that she did not respond to his comment in an antagonistic way calmed Joshua's irritation enough that he was able to turn away and go back to what he'd been doing without much incident. That was one good thing about having gotten a slight hold of himself over the years. At one point the snicker would have incensed him further and he might have started a fight just because he could but right now his thoughts were on music and he probably wouldn't have spared Laken so much as a second glance if she hadn't spoken to him and caught his attention for a second time. He blinked at the shock on her face and his lips twitched ever so slightly. "Well they're not a favourite but I have heard of them." He tended to listen to one band and then browse the 'related videos' section on something like YouTube. By the time he got to the end he'd listened to about ten different bands and found songs he liked and hated by all of them. Josh didn't think he could honestly say there was a band he liked every song from. Not even The Strokes, whose album he'd been handling a moment before.
Hmm, Red Medicine. He recalled liking one of the songs and feeling neutral toward the rest. "I'm pretty sure this place'll have it, it's got everything." The music store was very large to accommodate all of the different instruments and merchandise they had on sale. Like most places that sold music these days they also had a section full of band t-shirts but Joshua paid it no attention. He was the type to dress in designer shirts and equally as expensive jeans, coming across as the raised-rich kid that he was. It wasn't to say that he held it against other people, for he was a generally accepting person, it just wasn't his style. "Are you looking for the vinyl or the CD?" He figured that one of the few employees in the place might be better at helping her out than he was but then again, none of them were nearby. Apart from that, Josh had found that working in a record store did not necessarily mean a person knew much about music. He thought that was ridiculous. It was in his belief that you should know your way around a job before you tried to work it. You could never get into a medical career without knowledge of medicine, a degree. At least he hoped not. That would be a worrying prospect.
He actually did figure that by her comment she meant that paying more for the album might be an issue but then, the girl looked younger than him and for all he knew she was mooching off parents who wouldn't willingly fund her musical tastes or worked a job and didn't want to waste her own money. He didn't give it much thought. Joshua was of the "convenience first" sort, and so if it was easier to find something online he'd probably cut corners rather than make a deal. He was the opposite of his more thrifty fiancée in every way. Hell, maybe that was what made them a good match. "Might have been easier to find it there if shipping prices weren't such a bitch." A lot of things tended to come from other countries when you lived in Canada. It turned a simple five dollar deal into a fifteen dollar waste of time and money. "I haven't seen it personally but I know they've got a section on the band. Just depends on what you're looking for." Record or disc, that is.
[Literally listened to the album to see what he might like LOL.]

She wasn’t entirely surprised that they weren’t a favorite of his, they weren’t a favorite of a lot folks. It took an actual understanding of the genre and what Fugazi did personally to really appreciate their music. This guy seemed like the type of person that she could actually stop and have a conversation with about music, probably a more in depth one that she was able to have with quite a few people – but in the long run, it still wasn’t something she was quite willing to do. Maybe if in the future she saw him at the academy and he happened to be with the right people she’d pursue a conversation with him in some manner, ”Understandable, they’re not a favorite of a lot of people,” she stated, merely voicing her thoughts instead of taking the time to think of something other to say. She couldn’t agree with him on the ‘they have everything’ aspect – while she was sure that the store generally carried what she was looking for, the employees seemed unable to locate anything for the most part. If she worked here she’d probably end up spending half of her time rearranging the albums so that their placement actually made some sort of sense in the long run. As it stood currently, Laken could barely ever find anything that she was looking for here because everything just seemed to be in a state of disarray. ”If it’s here, it’s hidden,” she sighed a bit as she glanced around once more. If things went well, she’d walk out of here with the vinyl – she didn’t want to have to add a CD to her vinyl collection if she didn’t have to, ”The vinyl,” She’d already checked the section where most of the Fugazi was kept, but she hadn’t been able to locate it there, sadly, hence why she’d been looking through the rest of the store when she’d met up with this guy. As the conversation progressed she was actually considering giving up and just going back to her aunts and ordering it off the internet. It wasn’t so much the price that bothered her, she could afford the music, it was more so the fact that she was the type of person that preferred instant gratification. If she got the album here she’d be able to take it home and be done with it, if she had to order it offline she’d have to wait for a week at the least for the shipment to come in. ”In the long run, finding it online is easier, I just don’t want to wait for it to come in,” she was obviously impatient, that much was most likely clear just by the way they’d met. She shook her head at his comment, ”Shipping prices aren’t a problem, that’s all covered, I just don’t like waiting,” she reiterated slightly, a rare smile crossing her lips.

Well, at least she was reasonable about it. Joshua never understood the people who became such hardcore fans of a band or artist that they wouldn't even take someone seriously if that person did not share their same taste in music. He liked a lot of bands but he would never swear off the idea of having a conversation with someone because they liked something that he did not or vice versa. Hell, his own fiancée listened to opera music and he couldn't really care less about it. It wasn't that it was bad, he just didn't care to listen to it like she did. It didn't mean he judged her negatively. Though this girl had been a bit rude in their first three seconds of meeting, that had passed and so he now felt neutral toward her. "Not to mention I don't have a lot of favourites," he said simply, shrugging. He was a drifter. He liked a little of everything, disliked something in all things. He was what some might describe as 'chill'. He wasn't judgemental. A little unapproachable, yes, but he would sooner judge someone's tone instead of their race, gender, the colour of their hair. Those, to Joshua, were silly things to decide opinions on. If you were cold to him, he'd hate you a lot more than he would if you happened to dislike his favourite book or insult his desired profession.
Joshua found himself wondering if the girl had actually taken the time to really look around for the vinyl or whether she'd gotten frustrated by the fact that it wasn't where she'd thought it would be and so blamed others for that fact. He was not sure seeing as he did not know her and so Josh did not ask. He was blunt and not at all shy about his opinions but he tended to hold his tongue unless his opinions made sense. "Sometimes idiots misplace shit when they're walking around. Happens all the time." Someone would pick up an album and change their mind elsewhere in the store. Instead of being a good customer and putting it back in the section that they'd originally found it in, they decided that they would shove it in an entirely random section instead. It was a pain in the ass. He thought the employees should do a better job of finding the misplaced albums and putting them back in the correct sections but clearly that was not the case. The store was large but he couldn't sympathize much when that was their job. Their responsibility. "Know what the album cover looks like?" He didn't but figured as a fan that she might. "If it's something obvious it might be easy to spot even if it's in the wrong place." He shrugged.
As a very patient person, Joshua did not exactly understand the inability to wait a week or so for a delivery. Then again, this was the boy who'd known since he was eight that he wanted to become a doctor. Four years of college, eight years of medical school, residency... he had to have patience. He was a little insensitive in that he didn't understand that a week might be a big deal. "I'm sure it wouldn't take that long," he mused doubtfully. "But I guess I can see why finding it here would be more convenient." He shrugged non-committally, obvious that he didn't care either way. He chuckled when she admitted to the fact that she didn't enjoy waiting, having had a feeling that something was up there. "Can't say I relate." Well, alright, it wasn't that he liked waiting, merely that he didn't mind it. Most people would prefer things sooner rather than later but Joshua didn't mind if 'later' ended up being the case.
