August was a beautiful month, warm and sunny. Bree just loved it. Her favorite part was being able to sit under the trees on the school grounds to do her school work. That was exactly what she was doing on this particular day.
She was sprawled out on the grass, books surrounding her, waiting for her friend Nell to arrive, so they could spend their Saturday together. Brigid considered Nell her best friend, Nell was a fair bit older than her, but the were very close. She saw Nell as an older sister, and cared deeply for her. Whenever Bree was having problems with something, she went to Nell.
Nell knew all about how Bree's mother basically completely ignored her because she wasn't a fire elemental, and she never got to see her father, and wished she could. Just thinking about all that made Brigid frown, she quickly pushed the thoughts aside though, and replaced them with happy thoughts of everything she would do with her friend on that day. First she had to finish her work though.
With a determined expression on her face, she picked up another book and began to read. Brigid always worked hard at school, and was at the top of almost all her classes, however, her mother still mostly ignored her. It always made her feel so insecure, her mother was disappointed in her simply because she was earth instead of fire, like every generation of her mother's family. words, 245 \ tagged, nell \ outfit, here notes, a thread for nell and bree |

-ezra pound sat upon my bed, ASKED ME AS OF LATE WHICH BOOKS I'VE READ ASKED ME IF I'VE READ HIS OWN Nell wiped off her arms with a paper towel, the gooey substance sticking to her arms like a paste. ”It’ll be great, she says,” Ann said, leaning against one of the sinks with her arms crossed. ”It’s just borax powder, she says.” Nell tossed out the crumpled up paper towel, scrunching her nose when she looked in the mirror, at the hair and the blue slime stuck in there. ”Douse my hair please,” she said sweetly, with a clear water smile, unassuming as a baby. Ann turned on a faucet and the water splashed up and hit Nell in the face. She flailed her arms. ”I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” She really was, too, but Ann didn’t seem to be so content with that. Her red hair was matted to the side of her face. Nell tried not to laugh. ”Every single time we do a lab, you go over the top.” She wanted to argue that usually it worked out well, but she knew Ann wouldn’t have it. The girl would forgive her, pair up with her again. But this chemistry accident was a too recent wound.
She took her hair down and let Ann wash it out like they were at a hair salon before the Water elemental did the same for herself, muttering under her breath. Nell pinned it back, and figured she’d have to watch it before she went to the group home. She could take showers there, but she would rather not. A mansion shower was always better than a halfway house shower, and though she didn’t have that expensive taste, she took what she could get. Pushing open the door of the bathroom, she walked out into the hall, shrugging her messenger bag further up her shoulder. She held her books in her arms, about three of them, each for different subjects, sticky notes sticking out from them. Students milled about in the hallways, and she waved to those she recognized, avoided being hit by the more aggressive greeters. At least it was a rather nice day, and she didn’t feel too stressed out at the moment. It was mostly the girls that did it to her, children and women she worried about like her own family. Even though they didn’t want a family, they just wanted some way out of the system.
Outside, she felt the sun immediately assault her wet hair, a natural blow dryer. Her romper provided good relief, as well, even though she felt the sweat at the back of her neck where her new tattoo had been. Every time the needles had gone over bone she felt the ache, but she recovered quickly. High pain threshold from worse injuries, scars on her body like Morse code, telling a story in translation. She found Bree under a tree, and as Nell approached, a few Ruellia blossoms forming in her fingers. Nell bowed and declared, ”I am so glad to have found you, mi amor. And please, let me apologize for being late. There was a mishap in chemistry.” She pointed to her hair with the flowers, since her other arm was full of books. It wasn’t an odd thing, really. Nell liked to experiment with everything. ”Whatcha reading?” She questioned, dropping down on her butt without much preemptive thought. She rubbed her backside. ”Ah, my coccyx.” Science was killing her nowadays.

So busy reading her book, Bree didn't notice her friend arrive until Nell was leaning over her and talking. She looked up at the older girl and smiled brightly in greeting. "It's fine," It was actually great for Brigid that Nell was late, it had given her more time to work, and catch up on a couple things. "I see." She said looking up at Nell's damp hair. Not that it surprised Bree, Nell was always trying new things, and sometimes the results weren't all that great. This Chemistry accident was probably an example of that.
Bree looked own at the large book in her hands. "Oh, just a Chemistry textbook." She said holding it up for Nell to see as she sat down beside Brigid. Of course, she hadn't asked Nell to meet her there to discuss school stuff, they were going to hang out and do something fun. Even if it was just chatting on the school grounds. "So, What do ya wanna do?" She asked as she began gathering up the books and papers scattered across the grass, and putting them back in her brown leather book bag. The bag was old and worn, but she loved it. Her dad had given it to her not long before she came to the Academy, and that made it extra special. She loved her dad, and hated not being able to see him. They emailed each other all the time, but it wasn't as good as actually spending time with him in person. Being as her mother paid next to no attention to her, her father was the only parent she felt she could talk to about things. Even if he wasn't an Elemental, and wouldn't understand some of the things she was going through, it was still great to have some support from family. words, 306 \ tagged, nell \ outfit, here notes, a thread for nell and bree |

-ezra pound sat upon my bed, ASKED ME AS OF LATE WHICH BOOKS I'VE READ ASKED ME IF I'VE READ HIS OWN Did she even expect that Bree would be peeved? No, that was enough unlike her that it would have surprised her if the Earth girl got up and thwacked her over the head with a book. Nell wouldn't mind. She felt like she needed that more often than not. And apparently she had given time for Bree to read. "Ooh, some light reading I see." Nell smiled a toothy grin, pointed to the book."Did you get to the part where a mole is six point oh-two by ten to the power of twenty-three atoms? That one really threw me for a loop." She waved her hand as if she were blown away, eyes wide. On her arms she wrote her notes, a habit picked up from younger years, but that was for anatomy. For chemistry, she used any see-through surface, Expo markers, and equations suddenly became fun. Chemistry was full of them, and she had to question her father about how he could stand to be around so many numbers all day. Even though it was a lot of experimenting as well. She liked to go to his work, even though she was a nuisance more than anything.
She placed a hand on Bree's arm, firm and determined. "What we must do is escape the heat," she said, removing her hand to tuck the flower behind her ear, shortening the stem. "I was thinking we can head downtown and open a fire hydrant. I have a spray cap and everything." She had brought it up to a friend, said that she wanted to open one with a wrench, when the girl had informed her that it was illegal. This flabbergasted Nell, seeing as she grew up in New York where it was custom to bust one open on a hot day. But she went to the fire house and got one of the caps. They told her that they should come and do it, but Nell rather did things for herself. "You up for it? I got some toys in the trunk, too, towels. I'm prepared." She stood up then, stretching out. Her hair felt almost dry now. If Bree didn't agree, she could find something else for them to do.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/maggiesrpstuff/BACKGROUNDS/29or3i8jpg-1.png); border-top: #335954 solid 30px; border-bottom: #335954 solid 30px; width: 457px; padding-top: 30; padding-bottom: 20;] don't let me go . Bree didn't remember reading any of that, and it wasn't in her notes. So, obviously she hadn't quite gotten there yet. "Sadly, no." She replied to her friend. Chemistry wasn't one of Brre's strong suits, and she didn't enjoy it much. That being so, her words were heavily laced with sarcasm. She may have been hard working, and want to do well in school, but that didn't mean she actually enjoyed it.
It was awfully hot out, and Bree hadn't dressed very well for it, being as she was wearing jeans. The only thing keeping her semi cool was the shade from the tree, and the fact she was wearing a tank top. "Sounds like fun, but I'm not nearly as prepared as you." As she spoke she pointed first to her jeans, then to the pair of yellow heels laying beside her. She wasn't sure why she'd worn them, as she usually preferred flats. Heels were mostly reserved for special occasions. She must have been feeling short when she put them on or something. She did that sometimes, wore heels just to make her feel taller. She was, after all, a fairly short girl. It felt good to be tall once in a while.
She still wanted to try the fire hydrant thing. She'd never done anything like that before, and thought it might be interesting. "Unless you have a pair of flip flops, and some shorts in your trunk, I'm gonna have to head back to my dorm and grabs some." It would be convenient of her friend to have those items on hand, but it probably wouldn't stop her from heading back to the dorms. She did have to put her books away after all. "You know what? It doesn't really matter, I have to put this stuff away anyway." She said, standing up and shouldering her bag, before grabbing her heels and slipping them on. "Care to join me?" She asked, offering her hand out to help Nell up. "After that, we can go play in the water." She said, smiling brightly. Bree was excited for this new experience, trying new things was always fun, well, new safe things. She wasn't the type of girl who was gonna go bungee jumping or something like that, but she did like to have some fun now and then. words, 390 \ tagged, nell \ outfit, here notes, a thread for nell and bree |

-ezra pound sat upon my bed, ASKED ME AS OF LATE WHICH BOOKS I'VE READ ASKED ME IF I'VE READ HIS OWN Apparently Bree hadn't gotten to that little 'plot twist' in chemistry. Moles amused her because scientists had a holiday to celebrate it. She planned to make her father a cake for it. Nell sighed. "Great, I should have given you a spoiler alert." Nell joked all of the time, with few exceptions. She liked to see people smiling, or even exasperated at her lamer jokes. Most of her jokes were lame, anyway. Nell blinked at her friend, her outfit. She could understand the wanting for heels, considering she used to wear them at work a lot to get some height over the bar. Now she wore them simply to be formal. "But you look purdy," she crooned, swaying on her haunches with a dreamy look in her brown gaze.
She hung her head a bit. "Unfortunately, I'm not so prepared as that. I only have my work clothes." They weren't better than what she Bree was already wearing. Depending on which classes she took, it sometimes overlapped with school. Her schedule was always unpredictable, unstable. "That's all right, I don't mind heading back." She didn't live in the dorms, but she hung around there often enough. Especially in the fall and winter, when it was always mild and comfortable. She took the girl's hand, groaning with exaggeration. "Ugh, my poor old joints." She never complained, so she believed that when she grew older (now it was a when and not an if) she wouldn't be the kind to whine about medication and the such. Which probably wasn't the best.
She walked to the dorms, waving to people she knew lingering in corridors, excitedly chattering to Bree about getting the spray cap on a whim. In the dorm, she said, "I'm gonna time you." She took out her phone. "If you get back in a minute, I'll give you a chocolate bar." Of course, she'd give her the chocolate bar anyway. Nell could never hold out on food. It was the best thing to give, nobody didn't like receiving food, no matter how random.
