Nell held up the potato chip as she walked down the hallway. The girl next to her shook her head. ”I don’t see it,” she deadpanned. The Earth girl exclaimed enthusiastically, ”Of course you do! It looks just like him.” The other girl—a younger Water student—examined it again. Once more, she shook her head. ”Seriously, dude, you’re on crack.”Nell looked over at her friend and then examined the potato chip again, skillfully avoiding bumping into others walking through the hallway. She tilted the chip, closed one eye and shrugged. ”I dunno, I see Chris Farley.” Eating the chip, she offered the bag to the other girl, who reached in and took a few after almost being side-swiped by someone. ”I swear, people don’t know how to walk nowadays…” she muttered as she took the entire bag and finished it off as she muttered. Nell didn’t mind the fact that her chips were pretty much stolen or that people in the hallways were rude—she merely went on happily.
Well, as happily as one can be during a war. She was of course thankful that this war wasn’t over her and a lie that the Thunder leader had created before she passed. Even knowing what Cynthia had done, Nell did not hold any bitterness toward the girl. She was not a Thunder, after all. Okay, in some ways it seemed she’d inherited Fuentes traits. She could be vindictive, but that was saved for her family, as she’d proven to her father. But other than that, she was all Earth. Which meant, during a war like this, she held to her pacifistic nature. Getting attacked is unavoidable, and though Nell wished she could stand up for herself, she could never lift a hand against anyone. However, it was nice now that she didn’t get the brunt of the attacks—last war was practically unbearable with all the Thunders and Fires lined up against her like a firing squad.
As they reached where the Water girl’s next class was, the blond turned and asked, ”You’ll be okay?” Nell simply smiled and told her, ”Yeah, don’t worry. I’ll find someone to hang out with.” It was a free period for her next, and after that she’d be on her way home. Of course, she’d rather surround herself with people, but seeing as everyone needed to go to class, she was SOL. But she wasn’t about to complain about that or force her friend to skip. Especially since she wanted to be seen as someone dependable, someone strong. Not even a war could tear her apart. And usually, that would be true. Usually, though, she didn’t have stress from all other areas of her life. Still, she was going to make it look like she was okay. Because she was, and she’d be damned if someone claimed otherwise. ”See ya, Nells,” the girl said as she headed into her class, right before the bell rung.
Nell sighed. Well, at least there wouldn’t be many people roaming around. She shifted the messenger bag on her shoulder, looking around and wondering where she could go. Is Josh still around? She didn’t know, since he was in college and his days ended earlier than hers. Still, there was the chance he could be lurking in the library. Or maybe she could just find others like her with a free hour. Or I can just leave early, she thought dryly, since there really was no point in staying. In any case, she started walking down the hallway again, away from the classroom, when she saw a man looking rather…disoriented. Curiosity peaked, she strolled over to him and said in chipper tones, ”Hey there, can I help you?” She was always one to offer a helping hand, after all. And speaking of offering hands, she held out her own for a shake as she introduced herself with a smile. ”I’m Nell. I don’t suppose you’re a student, hmm?” He didn’t look like one, anyway, but she was just taking a wild guess.

'It's been awhile hasn't it my old friend.' Hank thought to himself as he began to walked around his old school, the academy of the elements. It had been a few years since he had been here and to be honest, he really didn't remember the layout of the massive school. Considering he had just gotten off a 15 hour plane with his continuously sleepy wife, even though she had just finished work when they had to catch their plane so that they could catch up with his younger sister, Aramina. It had been quite while since they had seen her and even the both of them were getting 'person sick' due to not being able to see her. She had been his only family, other than Sheire, for quite a while and the two of them had always been together until she had gone to this school.
As soon as he had dropped his wife at their hotel room he quickly made his way to the school and now his is about to walk into the school and try and find her. The feeling in stomach was really weird, it was like getting married all over again. 'I wonder how much she has changed?' he thought to himself as he began to wonder down a empty hallway to try and find the classroom that she was currently in. As far as he could have known she could have had a free lesson and wasn't currently in the building. "Ahh." Hank sighed a little to himself hoping that that wasn't the case. Grabbing is phone out of him pocket he quickly checked if he had and texts to reply to from the case that the case that he was currently working, a murder case unfortunately. It was at this point that he hear someone behind him. Looking behind him he saw that was a student. "No, I am a former student." He said with a bit of a laugh, then continued, "My name is Hank, I am looking for my sister, her name is Aramina. Would happen to know what class she is in?" Hank asked hoping that he would know.

Nell always liked to meet new people and so—like now—she literally went out of her way to do so. She had great faith in humanity, and an interest in other people and their lives. ”Alumni, huh?” she said, as if truly excited to hear this. And she was. ”Well, I’ll be your welcome wagon back to the Academy! When did you attend?” Even though Nell tried to avoid personal questions, she figured which ones would be personal and which would be fair game pretty easily. She used to be more nervous about it, but she figured by now she’d gotten the hang of it. In her childhood, she had little experience with interacting with people and so she just had to learn. It was easy enough for someone like her who empathized with people whether she liked to or not.
”Nice to meet ya, Hank,” she greeted him. That was actually an interesting name, one she’d never really heard before. Nell’s eyebrows lifted and her eyes glittered when he spoke his next words, snapping her out of her other pondering. ”Oh, you’re Mina’s brother?” She was even more excited now to be meeting a new person, knowing that this was the elder brother of someone she considered a good friend of hers. The two girls had instantly clicked, and that was all Nell needed to consider her to be a wonderful friend. ”She’s told me a little about you. You live in England, right?” It was a place she’d only ever read about, and one day she’d maybe like to go there. Of course, after she travelled to Spain. But you’re never gonna get that chance. She locked the thought away as she shook her head at his question and gave him an apologetic look. ”Nah, unfortunately, we don’t have any classes together since we’re in different grades. I can text her, if you want.” Then, she amended slowly, ”You probably already tried that, haven’t you?”
She took a moment to think, fussing with the flowers around her wrists that she grew herself. As an Earth student, she liked to keep her element on her at all times, whether it was flowers in her hair or ivy on her arms. ”Well, I’m sure when she gets out of class she’ll check her phone.” It would be nice if they could find out her whereabouts sooner, but it looked like such was not possible. ”Do you want to go to the office to see if you can find out her schedule?” Nell asked, having this bright idea. He was her brother, so surely they’d let him see that.

It, even though it had been sort of obvious, that the girl that stood in front of him had really like to get to know people. Though it did seem sort of weird that she had already been asking her when he had attended the academy, even though he didn't stay for collage due to him going to a law school back in England so that he could be close to his younger sister. "And what a great welcome it has been so far," Hank said in a joking tone of voice, "I came here a long time ago. Around 13 years, I think." Even though he did have to think about it, the only thing that he really remember from that period of his life was the 'accident' as they now call it. In the next few weeks he knew that Aramina would change and start to get really weird and he also knew that she wouldn't tell anyone what she knew about said 'accident'.
It had been just a little weird to know that the girl, Nell, that he had just happened to bump into just happened to be one of his little sisters friends. It was just something that just happened, he guessed. Though what really surprised him was the fact that Ara had mentioned him before, though the girl in question never really talked about her friends in her letters or when they were on skype. "Yes, I live in England with my wife at the moment. Though Aramina does stay during the holidays." He really didn't know how much the girl in front of him actually knew so he tried to make it sound like there parents, in this current time, where still in the picture. "I haven't tried that yet, though I did think of doing that." Even though it was obvious that he was younger than the girl next to him, Hank couldn't help but feel just that little bit out smarted at this point.
If he knew his sister like he knew that he did, he knew that she wouldn't have her phone on while she was in a class. She was just that type of person. "She will, you know what she is like!" Hank said with a smile on his face, trying not to laugh. "That's alright," He started once he had heard what Nell had said about going to the office, "No point in getting her out of class when she would be half way through it at this point."

Nell tilted her head and laughed. ”I try my best,” she joked back, finding that she already enjoyed his company. Anyone with a laidback demeanor was nice to be around, of course. He was already reminding her of Aramina, and wondered if Hank was a Wind like his sister, and decided to ask. ”What element are you in? And sorry if I’m just bombarding you with questions.” She tried not to be too overbearing, and she did her best to avoid questions that may be a little personal. As anyone would understand, you didn’t ask someone their address or phone number or favorite episode of General Hospital when you first met them. ”Oh wow.” Nell blinked when the older man told her just how long it had been since he’d come to the Academy. ”I don’t suppose it’s changed much, has it?” It was a giant castle in BC, she didn’t think a place as old as this would change too much, no matter how many years passed.
She nodded, clearly involved in the conversation. Aramina had also told her about staying with him for the holidays. A part of her wanted to ask about their parents, but that was definitely labelled as too personal. A lot of people—especially adults like Hank—were more comfortable talking about things like that. She supposed it came with maturity. Still, she wasn’t about to force his life story out of him. ”Sounds like a pretty nice vacation,” she commented. ”Mina invited me along, but I fear that I might not be able to this summer. Of course, it would be up to you.” Nell didn’t like to be a burden, and she always felt that way whenever she was a guest. It was a bit different whenever she had slept over Josh’s house, but that was probably because it was a mansion and it was hard to be a burden in a mansion. ”I’ve never been there before, and I hear it’s a beautiful country.” This was all hypothetical, this pretending like she might be able to go to any country in the future. She believed she’d most likely be too busy being locked up in America to visit any of the places she wanted to go.
The Earth girl laughed with him. Sure, she didn’t know a lot about Mina, but she considered the girl a good friend. They’d hung out with each other a few times and when they did it was like a breath of fresh air. …Maybe because she’s a Wind student. She kept her punny humor to herself, not wanting to make too bad an impression on her friend’s older brother. ”True, but maybe we could track her on the way to her next class.” It was kind of weird to stalk someone like that, but they were just going to hunt down the guy’s sister. ”In the mean time, is there any place you want to revisit here? I could be your tour guide.” Actually, not really since she didn’t have the best sense of direction, but she’d make an honest effort.

At this point, Hank was just happy to know that Aramina was in good hands. Day after dreadful day he could remember, seeing Aramina over skype with cuts and scrapes from anything and everything that had been happening at the school and what was currently happened didn't really help that fact. Though he was happy that the girl had had some sort of interest in who he actually was, as kids these days didn't really mind when it came to this sort of stuff. "I am a Air as well, it just runs in the family genes I guess." Even though he did wonder what his child would turn out to be as his wife was a water elemental. Looking around the hall that they were currently walking down he started to wonder if things had really changed since he had come to the academy. There was still wars every now and again, water and earth still hated fire and thunder and so on. "I guess it really hasn't when you really think about it." Hank said, trying not to repeat what he had just said to himself.
What Nell had said next really hadn't surprised Hank, not even a little bit. It was well know, even back in England, for Aramina to invite people back to their home without even asking. Though seeing as it was one of her friends in the academy he really didn't know what to say to the girl, mainly after her complimenting the country and all. Hank was mainly just happy that she, at one point or another, had actually thought about coming down for the holidays. Furthermore, he was quite happy for her to stay if it meant her staying at their home. "You shall always be welcome Nell. Any friend of Ara is a ours, trust me." He really couldn't have said what he was thinking in any better way. One, of the only things, that was going through is mind was more for the fact that he was perfectly happy when he either saw or knew that his little sister was fine and after being around Nell for just a little while, Hank knew that she would be in good hands.
As soon as Hank had heard the girls idea of just tracking his little sister down, he could help but laugh. Even though it seemed to be more of a game that they used to play when the two siblings were younger, Hide and Seek. Though, when it came to this, the girl had no idea what was coming and that the two of them were even looking for her. "We will have to do that, defiantly!" When Nell asked him where he would like to go one place really pocked his memory of this place the most, The Bell Tower. It had been the place that he used to spend all of week in due to the fact that no one would follow and hardly anyone was ever there. "Would you be able to show me to the Bell Tower?" Hank asked with blank expression. It had been the one place that he would go so that he could remember his long lost parents.

Nell moved her head like a curious dog when Hank spoke of his element. ”Whoa, that’s impressive!” she exclaimed. ”I didn’t think the element could run in a family, what with all the Winds being so different.” She supposed if there were strong enough genes, anything could happen. Sometimes Nell wondered if the mixture of a strong Thunder and Water family had landed her with Earth. Of course, her personality had played a big part in it. She hadn’t changed much from the time she was young. She had always been looking out for others and hated violence. Ironic, considering that was one of the biggest things in her life. It seemed like violence wasn’t something she could avoid. She smiled when he commented the fact that it really hasn’t changed. ”The Academy is like a museum,” she commented jokingly. It had a preserved history, part of its appeal for her. The other part was its roll as asylum in her life. She needed this place, it was her home. She almost couldn’t imagine leaving it, but as Hank had, she would eventually need to. Maybe not. For a moment, she almost forgot about the trial.
It was almost touching to hear Hank say that she was welcome any time to his home. She wasn’t used to such hospitality, not even being welcome in her own home. It was people like Hank and his sister that reinstilled her faith in the world. ”Okay,” she said softly, smile still on her features. Nell blinked when he requested the bell tower, an interesting choice, but her smile was always fixated. ”Aye, aye. I shall lead the way,” she said with a salute as she led the way outside. She didn’t spend too much time at the clocktower, but she knew where it was, of course. The building was hard to miss on the grounds. There was always the worry that she might run into someone who meant harm, but she didn’t worry about that too much. Especially since she had a full-fledged elemental with her.
When they reached the belltower there weren’t many people in there. ”Jogging your memory?” she asked jokingly. Looking up, she asked, ”Wanna climb to the top?” It will be rather unnerving when it rung to call the end of class, but she believed they could both handle it.

Hank was happy when she had mentioned stuff about his element and so on. Not very many people knew about him, or his sister; or his wife-y, having any sort of powers what so ever. Though it would be up to their children if they wanted to tell anyone about it. "Yer," He began wondering wither or not he should mention his parents, though once he thought about it, Nell seemed like a really nice girl and he decided that she might as well know why he was here, at the academy after so long. Even though he would only be dropping hints here and there about it, she might just be smart enough to know what he is getting at, "My, and Aramina's, parents were both Winds." Hank wondered if she would get what he was trying to say. What Nell had said next really got him laughing, "You do have a point there. So much history in one place, it is amazing!" You really couldn't tell that he was trying to hold in a grin at this point.
As soon as the two of they had reached the clock tower, a lot of the memories began to com back to him. The hours that he used to spend up here once his parents had died. It had been a massive shock for all the family but it had really done a lot of damage to Hank himself. Knowing that he was his sisters only 'known' family was way to much from someone of his age, back then at least. He was just happy that he had had a good group of friends that always had his back. "Many. Many memories." Hank stated with a straight face, you could tell that he was either thinking really hard about something or that he was trying to keep something in. "I would love to go to the top." As soon as they got up there, he just wanted it get it off of his chest. "Has Ara told you anything about our parents?"

Nell caught the use of past tense when Hank soke of his parents. Hmm? After a moment of deliberation, understanding entered her gaze and she lifted her head in a nod. ”Ah.” Then she reconsidered the conclusion she’d come to. Maybe the had been estranged, even emancipated. They’d still be alive. It was true that as you grew older, you could lose touch with your parents and the fact that they aged with you, too, left a bigger chance of them ailing in health. However, they couldn’t have been that old, considering Aramina was even younger than her. Even though she was curious, Nell didn’t ask. Instead, she said, ”I’m guessing you went to college?” It was a guess, since he hadn’t clarified. ”What did you major in.” She wasn’t thinking of majors at this stage—there was no point—but she knew her boyfriend took on a double major. Nell had to admire that.
Tilting her head, the girl smiled lightly when Hank spoke. ”Oh yeah?” It was always interesting to hear stories from people who had years on her. Even though she wasn’t especially fond of her father, she liked to hear some of his anecdotes, especially about his grandfather. León said she might meet him someday, he’s a good man. She doubted she’d ever get the chance. ”To the top!” she announced, making her way up the steps. Nell was roud in her balance that she didn’t need the railing. As they walked, her attention was caught by his voice. Now with the uncertainty of her friend’s parents, she paused before honestly replying, ”No, I don’t think she’s mentioned them.” She realized the Wind student was a lot like her—no one knew Nell’s family situation except for her boyfriend. She hadn’t even told Ari that her father had come back, something she didn’t know whether she regretted or not. ”Why?”

It had defiantly been a while since he had been to collage, that was for sure. But he defiantly remembered what happened over that could of year, the good; bad and fun times. The things that Hank learnt over that time has stayed with him ever since and the people that he met have been with him ever since, namely his wife. "Yes, I went to collage, two collages actually." Hank said as he remember the last year or so, when he really had to start looking after his little sister, "I studied Law, though at one point I really wanted to be become a doctor. Never had good enough grades for that though." he said with a laugh. Even though that was true, he knew that he would have become a lawyer either way, mainly knowing how much he loved his current job even though it had its ups and downs. "What about you? What do you plan on majoring in?" He said wondering what they young girl was interested in.
As soon as they were at the top of the old tower he could most of the memories coming back. Of when he used to just sit up here and wondering why all those bad things had happened to his family, why his parents had to leave him with only his sister. Just why?. Though as soon as Nell has said that Aramina had never mentioned them before he thought that it may be a good idea to fill her in on most things, seeing as Aramina never really told anyone what had happened. "You may want to sit down, this is a interesting story," Hank said just before starting, "You see, both Aramina's and I's parents died 13 years ago." he said wondering how she was going to take it. "It happened during a break-in gone wrong, she was really small at the time so she doesn't really remember to much."

Nell blinked, and then chuckled. He really sounded like an overachiever. ”Two colleges? Couldn’t get enough, huh?” Her eyes were bright, and she couldn’t help but think of her boyfriend. Nell was a hardworker, but she didn’t necessarily like studying. She didn’t like learning as a necessity, she enjoyed it on her free time. She became well-read that way—she had had a lot of free tie in her childhood. The Earth girl cocked her head in curiosity. ”Are you a lawyer now?” She knew some people did not go into an occupation that dealt with their majors. However, the thought of speaking with a lawyer made her somwhat nervous. She was not on the favorable side of the law, and she had spoken to a lawyer—the DA, her grandfather—before. It didn’t go over well. Of course, Hank was very kind, not at all like her family. Not everyone was like her family, and thank God for that. ”Well, both are pretty damn good professions.” Doctors were probably the most notable of jobs—they made the most, and they held a very high status in society thanks to the fact that they held lives in their hands. Lawyers, as a part of the justic system, were very important as well. And she knew not all of them were assholes like her abuelo.
He asked after her, and these questions were actually easy for her, because she built up her defenses when it came to speaking or thinking about herself. She tilted her head back, considering his words. The future? So cruel, she thought, a smile twitching at her lips. ”I don’t know. Haven’t really thought about it actually. I really love English and History, but I’d like to do something that helps others, yanno?” She left it at that—short and sweet, overall vague. Nell didn’t like to talk about herself, didn’t think that she was really worth many words. Hank was a more interesting subject, of course. He definitely had more of a future than her. It was amazing how negative her thoughts could get for being such an optimistic person, but this was about herself. When it came to her life, she couldn’t see much. She thought it must have been the fate of most Sinclairs—it was rare for them to live past the age of fourty, and she only knew of Aunt Mary and perhaps Aunt Evie, who seemed to need a hospice. Of course Jane wouldn’t help her there. Her face almost contorted, thinking about the latter’s cruelty.
Brushing her hair away from her face, she looked around and slid onto the windowsill of one of the large, gaping holes in the brick wall. She didn’t know what to expect from Hank, but she was unconsciously bracing herself for something. And when it came, it felt like a punch to the chest. Nell caught her breath. A pained expression passed her features before it settled back into her usual calm. ”Oh god,” she said in a soft voice, inclining her head before lifting her eyes back up to Hank. ”Was…was she home?” It caused a terrible sickness in her stomach to even imagine an infant having to see that. ”I suppose…that’s why she was living with you?” She didn’t think that her suspicions could have been at all right. Her parents were murdered. It was painful to even consider, and it was painful to relate in the tiny way she could. You can’t feel for Mina, you’re a self-made orphan. ”Does she ever ask about them?” she wondered, feeling a slight breeze upset her hair as she tried to wrangle strands in behind her ear. She could only imagine how it was for Hank, because he probably remembered well enough.

Hankcouldn’t help but laugh as soon as he had heard Nell’s comment about him going to two collages. Though, he wouldn’t tell the story behind that until later due to the fact that he hoped that Aramina would be the one to tell her the whole story but if she was to ever ask then he would tell the basics. Of course. “Yea, I was lots of fun going too two. Trust me on that one!” He said with a smile on his face. He could remember the first couple of weeks when he had come back to England to finish off his degree in Law, and it was something that he would rather forget. The constant looks where enough to make a person go insane! Though as soon as Nell had asked him about his job hank couldn’t help but smile. “I am a Lawyer. It is hard, I have to admit but it is the best job in the world. For me at least. I am currently working on a murder case though which is just a little depressing.” At least he was telling her, half the time he hated talking about his job, mainly to family members. Hank has always been afraid of his wife becoming stressed, and with her being pregnant and all it wasn’t to pretty when she was. As soon as Nell had mentioned that both Lawyers and Doctors had a good standing with the public Hank couldn’t help but laugh. “You wanna know how I chose between the two?” He asked with a smile on his face, while grabbing something out of his pocket, “I flipped this coin and went with whatever it came out with. I kept it just for good luck, weird right!”
Once Nell had stated that she really didn’t know what she wanted to do hank couldn’t help but laugh a little to himself. He could remember have this same sort of conversation with Aramina when she was having trouble figuring out the same thing. Though Ara didn’t really have any interests in certain subjects, just like Nell said that she really liked English and History. Even so, there were only a couple careers that Hank could think about, mainly being things like a Teacher or Writer, but both were careers that had a good pay. “Have you ever thought about becoming a writer?” Hank asked, more like questioned in this situation, “You would be able to use your interests of English with that. You could even write about Historical events if you wanted to use both.” At times Hank knew that his advice was no were near what the person wanted, but he still loved giving it for some reason. I was just one of those things, really.
As soon as Hank had seen the girl face couldn’t help but just wonder if he had done the right thing by telling her about what had happened all those years ago! It was one of those topics that had been a part of his conversations for quite a while now. Though it was the small flashbacks that he was having at this point that helped him remember, it was only at times like this that he could, or wanted to, remember the small things about the incident. Once Nell had begun to ask question about what had happened he couldn’t but sigh just a little. “She was at home. The one thing my parents asked me to do was to get her out of our old home as fast as I could.” He could image his mother’s face when she had asked him to do so, the sadness and a few tears beginning to run down her cheeks. It was the last time that he had the two of them and he had become the ‘legal guardian’ for Ara. On the up side, he now had experience in being a father as such, it was going to be easier for him once his wife had her child, for sure. “She does at times,” Hank said looking toward Nell, wondering what she was thinking about at this current time, “Not all the time though, only every now and again and it usually stuff about what they did for a living and what they look and acted like.”

She looked down and laughed when he talked about the two colleges he went to, not knowing if she’d be willing to do something like that. Then she thought about how if it was something she wanted, she’d be willing to do anything. As it turned out, he became a lawyer, and she didn’t let her asshole grandfather change her opinion about Hank, even though the lawyer she’d met had given her a bad impression. A murder case. The words sent a chill up her spine, but she still remained ever-cheerful, her mask something that no amount of fear or stress could break. ”Are you a defense or presoecuting attourney?” she asked, more to her curiosity than she let on. She’d met her own lawyer, he seemed like a nice man, with a slow drawl and accent that made her unsure if he was from Canada. The person who stood against her was her DA grandfather, who represented the government. She knew that these people made a lot of money for what they did, as the Fuentes mansion demonstrated. Nell snapped out of it when she heard Hank spea again and her face fell into an expression of disbelief when he informed her of how he chose his future profession. ”You flipped a coin like a basketball game?” she asked while laughing, greatly amused by this information. Imagine, choosing your future with the flip of a coin! ”Do you still flip it to make decisions?” She had a picture of him at the grocery store, taking out the coin to decide on paper or plastic.
Nell leaned back, hands gripping the wall. ”A writer?” she mused, a smiling quirking at her lips. Her first image of herself being a writer was locked up in a room with an ink well and a quill, hovering over a wooden desk, the only thing lit by a tiny candle. No, she thought if she’d be a writer she would be sitting outside, in a tree or somewhere high, using everything she saw for inspiration. ”I’ve never written anything except for essays,” she told him with a light chuckle. ”But hey, I’m decent at those. Might have to consider that.” Even though writers didn’t always make the best income, she was okay with being a starve artist. It was better than what she had when she was younger, at least. Everything she got now or in the future would be better. Then she stopped her thoughts. Did Hank really just make her think of her future? The trial won’t allow me to be a writer, she thought, pessimistic. How would she know if she’d make it out alive. She didn’t, and so the thoughts were best put aside.
The girl wondered if Hank had come to terms with what happened to his parents. She knew that’s what happened, that’s what people did. The pain would be there, and it would be intense at times, but they could accept it as a part of their past and tell people without shedding a tear. Because it was an old wound, scabbed over and only at times when someone was left completely alone did the scab flake off. There was nothing she could say to that sort of thing. Nell was not a person who usually cried, but if she were, she’d have shed quite a few tears. Instead, her face was one of pensiveness, of trying to imagine what it must have been like for this family. I can’t even imagine, she said. Nell had lost her family, but everything was different, every situation was tragic in its own way. Hers had been a slow downfall—she couldn’t know how it was to have everything ripped away in an instant. ”I could only imagine,” she said, speaking her thoughts aloud when he spoke of Mina and her questions about their parents. ”Well, she did have you, at least.” She offered him a small smile. The lose of one’s parents could be devastating, but as long as there was someone who loved and cared for you, then it was easier to make it through. ”I guess you’ve been taking care of her for a while, huh?”
