 Alistair sat on a pathway outside, his feet creating caves in the snow. He wore a long-sleeved flannel shirt, with just a sherpa on top. With the hood over his head however, the breeze coming through barely touched him as he continued to read a passage for one of his upcoming assignments. This was how he spent his afternoons, and sometimes the weekends too. Many would say it was a waist of time, but for Alistair it was the line between graduating and becoming just another failed legacy in his family of the uneducated. Failure was not an option for him. He had to do well, to make up for the last few years he'd screwed up.
His eyes scanned over the last words slowly, taking in their meaning. Committing everything to memory, Alistair stood up, only to be whipped by a sharp winter wind. Flakes of snow from the trees stung his face and tossed his hood back. Shivering, Alistair headed back into the Academy, taking the long way through the gardens. Plucking a flower from one of the few dead plants, he thumbed it's dry, brittle petals.
Now in the castle, Alistair walked through the empty hallways, willing life into the plant. After a few seconds of concentration, the stem began to turn a subtle green, and the petals a soft yellow. Alistair smiled to himself. This was why he loved being an Earth. Giving life to something that seemed to be far gone was a magical sight, just like every other elemental power. Completely overcome by the beauty of the flower, Alistair didn't notice the occasional students walking through. Eventually his own feet stopped as he leaned against a wall, still fingering the flower. It's life was fading now, and Alistair frowned. Sure he could breathe color back into it, but it would only leak out once more. Why waste the effort? Sighing, he slipped the flower into his pocket, continuing to lean against the wall.

 Altair felt a hand on her arm when she lunged for the Water girl, and turned to snap, ”Don’t fucking touch me.” She ripped her arm from the Earth’s grip, and with her lighter in hand, dispelled a blast of fire around her so that the group of four backed away. Even though it stole a great deal of her strength, she wasn’t about to stop there. After all, she could still use her fists no matter what. However, the huge blast had attracted attention from a professor and she accepted the detention in stride. She wasn’t a coward who’d run at the first sign of trouble, even though that’s what the Waters did, knowing that they would be in shit too if they stayed. They would leave with a few burns, though, of which she was proud. Pussies, she thought snidely, crumpling up the slip of paper as she walked into school and stuffing it into her pocket.
The chill in the castle was great still, but she didn’t mind it much as a Fire elemental. Her black sweater was enough, even though it wasn’t bulky at all. She hated to hide her body. Not even her toes were cold, clad in a strappy heel—the higher body temperature of Fires made it easier to be someone like her, someone who held fashion above anything else. As an ex-model, this was only to be expected. The heels clicked against the floor as she walked, heading toward a place where she could skiv off class. She didn’t want to deal with anyone else, being in the mood she was, and she couldn’t promise that she wouldn’t set her peers aflame if one of them pissed her off.
On her determined path, she noticed the Earth boy, Alistair, playing with a flower. She pulled out her lighter, flicked it, and as she approached the flame spread out to incinerate the plant, leaving nothing but a black corpse. She was proud when she saw that she’d also gotten his hand, as well as the plant. Altair stopped, her gaze steady and a sneer on her face. “Sorry, I just have a compulsory reaction to burn plant life whenever I see it,” she said dryly, her tone lacking humor. Usually she took great joy in such a thing, but her mood was not its best. She did it mainly to blow off steam. ”You know, people usually don’t sit in hallways playing with flowers, you fucking pansy.” She rolled her eyes. Altair just didn’t understand Earth students, buttook great joy in fucking with them.
