When it came to recycling, for example, it was definitely something someone should do. Most people were able to recycle, but she knew that in some places, the facilities weren’t available or were costly to use. In other places, it was actually required by law, which she thought was pretty damn cool. Of course, that didn’t very often mean that people, who were supposed to, actually did recycle. More often than not, people seemed not to care very much about the Earth on which they had made their home. They refused to learn that their lives were at severe risk if the world wasn’t helped. Similarly, what with the failing economy, people just needed to help out. Those who could help out, should, in her opinion. But they also seemed like the group who helped the least.
Like how the insanely smart people in the world were the ones who couldn’t bear talking. It was like a waste of the intelligence, which she thought was a shame. Why not use the intelligence with which you were gifted? Oh, she was by no means stupid. She just took forever to get her stuff done when she was able to focus, and that wasn’t always a frequent occurrence. Like now. Class was a terrible place to focus sometimes, especially when they were supposed to working on projects or homework or whatever else was going on. On some level, Raine always felt a bit guilty for not getting her stuff done. She really ought to. It would save her some grief at home, and it would save Knox some frustration if he ended up helping her out once she got there. She was smart, yes, but he was smarter and always would be. He also thought faster, which she envied to a mighty degree. She could be rather envious, but then so could everyone else. Everyone had their flaws. It was a trait of humanity itself. No human was perfect and no human would ever be perfect. If someone was perfect, that was pretty much a flaw in and of itself. No one would want to be with the perfect person because that person couldn’t exist. Only a hermit could deal with it.
“Maybe I should be a hermit,” she huffed, glaring at the table in front of her. She wasn’t interested in doing her work. She wasn’t interested in the class either, partially because she was just extremely bored as it happened to stand. Boredom could put her in a bit of a nasty mood sometimes, and she needed a very good pick-me-up. Something that would make her laugh, maybe obnoxiously loudly. Her gaze flickered up and around, looking about the classroom and wondering if there was anyone else who might be interested on doing something with her, especially if that “something” turned out to be goofing off and generally not doing what they were supposed to be doing. Oh, yes, she should be doing her work. She shouldn’t distract whoever she wished to interact with. But she would. Perhaps that made her a horrible person. Maybe it just made her feel free. But she didn’t mind being naughty every once in a while. Being naughty could be extremely fun.
Some people, too, could be just as fun, sometimes by being naughty and sometimes not. Seeing as the teacher had given them the freedom to move around as they worked so they could partner up or put themselves in teams. She knew, in theory, that it was a good way for students to bouncy ideas off each other so their work would improve. She wasn’t sure how much help that would be in a math class—it seemed more appropriate for an English class or something of the sort, where you needed to write. She shrugged it off, flicking her attention to the opposite side of the room. After a moment, her dark gaze found a familiar face, and a mischievous grin spread over her lips. Her hand closed around her notebook to make it look as though she had fairly good intentions, and she scooted from her seat to trot over to her friend. She slid into the empty seat next to Kiya, greeting cheerfully, “Aloha there, chickadee. What’s up with you, cookie?” |

 Most people might not know this, but when Kiya put her mind to things, she could really do whatever she wanted to do. One of these insistences was when she was invited to attend and contribute to a twelfth year class. It wasn’t like she was lazy 100% of the time, like many a person would think. It was more that she would usually try if she wanted to and that she really never wanted too. Though, in the past couple of weeks she had really started to try in a few subjects and now here she was. Sitting in this current class and not really knowing what to do. She many only be in this class for a couple more weeks, but there was always that part of her mind that was just saying over and over, ‘you won’t regret this, advantage!’ and that was all that she really saw it as. An advantage into the next year and that was just as good as any other game when it came to think school.
It wasn’t like she didn’t know any people that where in this year, let alone this class. Having friends in other year was just another advantage that she was happy having and maybe when people that she knew where in the class that she was taking, well that was always a good thing. When having to think about it may or may not have taken a few minutes to try and figure out who she was thinking about. Though, as soon as she had remembered she heard someone sit next to her. Turning her head she couldn’t help but smile. That was who she was thinking about, Raine. This was one of her only female friends, which was always a good thing because as much male attention you get because you play games, you always need a girl friend to be able to balance everything.
It wasn’t like she didn’t like the girl or anything. They had seen each other around campus and she knew him through some people that she was close with the girls’ element and year, but she had only had a few conversations with the water girl one on one. Even though they had only had a few conversations Kiya is also able to say that they were really good friends and nothing was going to change that, which was for sure. They had many things in common and between the two of them, there was never a dull moment when the two of them where together. So as soon as Raine had come and sat next to the younger wind student, she really couldn’t help but smile and laugh, “Hey girl. I am good! How are you going, hun?”

She didn’t even pay attention to it. Perhaps she should have been guilty. Perhaps she should have felt bad for being disruptive to another students’ efforts. Honestly, though, Kiya had a whole year ahead of her before she even needed this class, the brainiac. She didn’t begrudge Kiya her brains, god no. If she were irritated with everyone for being smarter than she, she wouldn’t be best friends with her best friend, which would seriously suck. She also wouldn’t get along so well with the girl who happened to be sitting beside her. She liked having friends more than she liked being “better” than someone. That didn’t, however, mean she was about to make an effort to be friends with a human. They just lacked interest for her because they lacked powers. They had persecuted elementals just like they had witches back in Salem, and she wasn’t going to reach out to them. In her experience, elementals were more peaceful and, therefore, for more interesting. Violence was uncomplicated. Peace and compromise weren’t.

[/color] she trailed off, looking around the classroom. Then, she jabbed her elbow onto the table and let her face fall onto her waiting palm, the boredom evident as much in her body language as in her expression. “I am exceedingly and incredibly and quite too bored. I always hate these periods in class. You know, when you should be working on something but really don’t want to?” She lifted an eyebrow, gazing seriously at Kiya and wondering if the girl shared the sentiment at all. Brainiacs, in her experience, could goof off in those times because they’d finished their homework during the lecture and the classwork wasn’t generally for a grade either. For Riane, it was more a problem of motivation. She knew she should do the work because she’d probably fail the test on it alter, but, as she’d just mentioned, she just didn’t want to. She would stare at it for a few hours, or let distractions have their way with her and thoroughly enjoy them, but she’d regret it in the end. Maybe she should have a study session with Knox sometime. Maybe that would help her focus. More likely, it would just distract him and he’d grow irate with her. There was just no way to win, was there? It wasn’t like this was about winning or losing either. Most classes didn’t have a pass-fail grading system, unfortunately. No, teachers insisted on ranking students from some weird A-level that was the best, but everyone knew that an A in an advance class was better than an A+ in a normal class, and that you could get a C in an advanced class and still be smarter than an A student in an average class. It just wasn’t something she liked being pointed out to her. She was an average student who couldn’t be any means compete with students like Kiya or Knox, though she didn’t really want to compete with them. They were friends. She would encourage them to reach their potentials, earn millions of dollars, and then hopefully not forget her in the process and maybe help her out if she ever needed it. God, she was already planning to mooch off people in case she didn’t get a good job. She was a horrible person. So, to distract herself, she groped for Kiya’s papers and pulled one towards herself. As she tried to make heads or tails of the piece, she asked, “So, is this the only 12th-grade class you’re taking or are you in any others?”She let her gaze wander upwards again, and mischievous smile dance onto her lips. She leaned in and whispered, “Are you even here of your own free will? Blink three times quickly for no.” She knew that, were she nearly as smart as the cookie in front of her, her parents would have stuck her in enough advanced classes to make her head explode. She didn’t know if Kiya did things because she wanted to, because she was expected to, or because she was forced to. She wanted to know, though. She wanted to understand what made cookies like that tick and why brainiacs looked like they enjoyed being stressed out sometimes. Why else would they do that to themselves? Was it really that hard to hide being someone who was crazy-smart? Surely, if they were indeed crazy-smart, they could figure out how not to seem so. Or did they just not want to? “Do you like being smart?” she added curiously, curiosity replacing boredom as she studied Kiya. She felt like the girl in front of her was a specimen in a lab and she was the scientist with the too-big glasses.[/size][/div] [/td][/tr][/td][/tr][/table] [/center] |

Every time someone would ask her how smart you had to be to be able to go into a higher grades classes and every time that someone did ask her you could tell by her expression that she really wanted to hit you with that battle axe that she stored in her school bag. It wasn’t because it she was asked all of the time, it was more the fact that the only reason she was in this class was because she was good at the subject, considering it was the only subject that she was good at without trying too hard, and because she actually liked doing the work in this subject. Sometimes it was nice to have friends like Raine that would not question anything and would just go with the flow, like some would say. It wasn’t that she was super start or anything, she knew who to go to if she needed help from someone other than the teacher, but it was also the fact that this was a onetime thing, because she was just really weird like that.
Sometimes it was even the company of having someone in a higher grade that really made her lesson. Considering she is in the grade lower of course. Raine being bored was also something that happened quite often. Kiya knew how to deal with things like this and it just happened to be talking that was the ultimate band-aid of the boring situation. “Boring? Well, class doesn’t have to be boring. We can just not do the work and talk, that is always a thing!” Something that she had really missed out on over the past couple of years had been talking to actual people due to her gaming and internet habits. It was always good to be able to talk to Raine and all of her friends outside due to them always wanting to hangout and talk with the wind girl. Even though it was a welcome change every now and again due to the fact that she really didn’t get out very often.
I was really weird to start off with though, starting an advance class. Considering she had always had a problem with else sort of subject due to her lack of really wanting to try her best with the work that she was given. Of course it had taken just a little while to actually get into the habit of getting her homework done and all of that shit but it was also the fact that she actually had to do work and homework in this class because it was harder than all of her other ones. “Yeah, only 12th grade course, thank god,. I don’t think that I would be able to do any more if I tried!” That was defiantly true, this one class was enough with work at Timmies and the fact that she had this massive addiction to gaming really didn’t help that fact. Sometimes and only sometimes was she just a little worried about herself because of that fact!
As soon as the information and realisation that Raine didn’t even think that she even wanted to be there came up in the air she really couldn’t help but laugh, even though she did stop herself as soon as she could. “Don’t worry, I am here on my own free will darlin’!” It was just that little bit of American culture that slipped out every now and again that she had just shown, she had even had an American accent when she had said it. This happened every now and again but no one really care after the first couple of times. It really wasn’t like it was anything overly knew of the wind girl. It happened all the time when she had first started at the academy! Though, with the comment of Kiya being smart she really had to think about it. It wasn’t that she wasn’t smart of anything, it was just that she never really wanted to apply herself and get the work done! “Not really, I am just as smart as any normal person, I think.”

It was hard to say anybody was completely smarter than anybody else. It was more likely that one person was smarter in one subject than somebody else. There was also a large discrepancy between book smarts and street smarts and the like, and Raine was never quite sure where she fit in. She wasn’t very quick, honestly. She needed time to process. A timed essay was hell for her. It sucked even more that she couldn’t blame some sort of learning disability and get the extra time she desperately needed. She tended to fail those sorts of assignments more than the ones she was allowed to take home and do there. Knox could help her there anyway. When the guy managed to put words together, he sounded just as smart as he actually was. It was a pity he was so terrible at communicating. God, she was getting off-topic in her head alone. What was she to do with herself?
She would watch. Watch, and listen. She could do that. She was good at that. She would watch the way the girl tilted her head to the side occasionally, as most people did. The way her face would light up as if someone had turned on an outward-facing flashlight inside her skull, making her eyes seem tot winkle like there were stars hidden hundreds of light years away inside them. She liked how people all had similar traits when they were honestly happy. Their eyes made it obvious when they were laughing, even if you couldn’t see their mouth. Their eyes gave away how whole-hearted, or not at all, the smile really was. And she liked inciting that smile as much as it amused her to make her best friend blush. “No, class doesn’t have to be boring. Should I ask the Mister why he makes it that way?” Though perhaps funny, she knew that one would border on insulting, and doubted she would be tempted to do it unless Kiya wanted to triple double dog dare her so. Hopefully, Einstein wasn’t that immature. Weren’t smart people supposed to be mature? Sure, they could be quite socially inept, but that didn’t mean they were immature. Like Knox. He was probably one of the most mature people she knew, but he was also among the most socially inept.
Suddenly, a bit of yellow flopped onto her face and obscured her vision. She glared at it for a moment. Damn hair. The blonde shoved the strand out of her face. Some piece of her hair always managed to jump into her face and be annoying. Of course, she also refused to cut it. She was proud of it in some way, even if it drove her up the wall and through the ceiling. She sometimes wondered what exactly she had done to make the little pieces atop her head hate her so much. Had she been frustrating hair in a previous life or something? Surely it wasn’t the atmosphere here anyway. It had been just as troublesome on vacations to fair-off places where the air was cooler or dryer than it was here. Maybe it was just the way she was born. Maybe it was due to her mother’s genes. The woman used copious amounts of hair spray. Maybe the water elemental could borrow some.
Or—and here came quite the epiphany—she could just relish the craziness.
Yeah, right.
“I’m sure you could handle them,” Raine assured her friend with an evil grin. Her voice, however, was completely nonchalant as she continued, waving one hand carelessly to the side, “You’d simply put yourself into an asylum eventually. Though that might be entertaining. You know, I’m sure some people would be really pissed at me for saying this, but I think being crazy might potentially be rather interesting—depending on what form of insanity you’re suffering from.” You’d think she were breathless from that, but no. She lifted an eyebrow, perfectly prepared for any weird look Kiya might give her in response. It was a bit of a crazy thought. Most people wouldn’t want to be insane. Most people wouldn’t want to lose touch with reality, unless reality was so horrible. Maybe that was because so many people who were insane committed suicide. The going rate was, what, two or three times as likely as those not suffering from some sort of disorder? She really needed to pay more attention in her psychology class. Maybe she could major in that. But no, she wanted to do theater. She wasn’t going to get distracted from that, not even with a minor or a double-major. She really was all over the place today.
Though insanity seemed rather appropriate, considering what Kiya was saying. She let her eyes grow, even bug out a little, as amazement flickered across her expression. “You’re kidding, right? You could be the next Einstein if you put your mind to it, I’d bet.” Maybe she was easily impressed. She didn’t like that idea. But she did know that a girl younger than herself was smarter than herself, and Raine was not stupid. She was fairly intelligent. She made good grades, when she wasn’t being timed. Couldn’t that suffice? “Beside, why would you want to be normal? Being normal is so boring.” Raine just wanted to be entertaining. She wanted to be creative and everything not normal. She couldn’t see the appeal of normal. Like those mopey vampires in books. Why would they want to be normal? Sure, being immortal sucked, but everything else was pretty much awesome. Well, not the blood-sucking part. That part was kind of ick. But they were supposed to like that part.

Sometimes it was just a friend that could really distract Kiya from doing any work at all, or really anything at all when she could be distracted! You know, because it wouldn't ever have anything to do with they way that people taught or the things that they taught for that matter! It was more the fact that, mainly when it something like math which was really one of the only subjects that she was really good at due to her computing background. She may be really lazy but it was school work was something that she really couldn't be bothered with when it came to anything! "You never know what he might say or how he will react!" Of course the wind girl had always wanted to ask a teacher that, considering most teachers always seemed to not want to do things in a fun way that made students actually want to learn something. It seemed to be something that teachers never really thought about, unforgettably. "On second though, that might not be such a good idea if you know what I mean!" well, last thing that the duo needed was to have a detention for asking the teacher such a stupid question! Just because she she seemed like a mature person when you start to getting to know the young wind girl, once you get used to her you begin to realize that she is just as immature as most people in the ninth grade!
One Raine had begun to say that she would eventually put herself into a mental place she really began to wonder what it would really be like. She had really really thought about what it would be alike to be in a place like that and it was also something that she was rather not happen any times soon, as interesting as it did sound. "You have a really good point there! When you think about it, I would rather be just a little insane then be completely normal! Though I don't think that I would ever be able to do something like that if I had ever go full on insane..." You know, but who knows. People already think that she in insane enough at the moment let alone in a few year time when she would be graduating from college. As far as she could know as soon as she graduated from there she could go instantaneously com bust into a mentally awesome, just crazy, person who would need to go into one of those places. Then again, she wouldn't want to go because of family.. darn, that would probably suck. With the amount of people that have lost their lives due to these types of people, you in all seriousness really wouldn't want to be in that sort of situation.
Kiya really could help but laugh at the comment made by Raine when is came to the fact that Kiya was happy with being in this current class. As lazy as she was, she would rather not have to challenge herself when it came to things like this. Though, it was also something that she really wasn't proud of. Most of her friends, non irl of course, saw her as a really lazy person who never really liked to do school work in general! "You never really know, anyone could be that if they just put their minds to it!" With the current look on her face you could tell that she was talking about the water girl next to her. Anyone could be there own Einstein , it was up to the person and how they wanted to do things in their own lives. Then again with the second comment made, you could also tell that the was smarter than she looked. "You do have a very good point there, girl! I would rather be extraordinary then ordinary!" Okay so maybe that was something that her mother had always said to cheer her up, but it was still something that she would tell everyone that she knew because of the true behind it!
