Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin stood leaned up against the building, playing with the rubber case on her phone as she rested for a bit. She had been dipping in and out of shops all day, working on getting herself ready for classes to start once more. Even though she still had plenty of time before that, she wanted to get a head start now because her schedule had been so unreliable as of late.
Wandering once more, she found herself in front of a dance studio, and dropped some of the designer bags on the ground. A ghost came back, and she found herself biting at her lip as she thought about her last show ever, so far at least. Braylin wondered if she would ever perform again, and then shook her head at herself, picking up her mixed bags of school supplies and designer label clothes and turning. Braylin had splurged a little bit this shopping spree, and got very great clothes, but did not regret it one bit. It was nice to splurge every now and then. nell scratched the back of her head, fluffing up the hair she had in a clip. the summer heat wasn't too good to her hair, but luckily she had good hair anyway. it was manageable, so she didn't have to do much for it to keep it from frizzing. the most unfortunate effect of the heat was that it made waves, which could be avoided by keeping it in a clip. in her arms she held one bag from the pet store. she'd bought some toys, the kind that were neutral to whether they were for dogs or cats...or pigs. she'd also bought a ball, figuring that any animal would love anything that bounced. in the zoo the seals and the lions and half the animals played with balls, so she figured it was worth a shot.
the girl didn't shop often, so she usually had a lot of money in reserve. she preferred ghetto solutions to any problems, wardrobe or otherwise. she was still stuck in the days when she had nothing, just a row house and whatever she got secondhand from a woman in the neighborhood with six kids. her mother had never bought anything, never even went outside. it was why sometimes she still found herself thinking that wow, she lived in a mansion with a fiance and a sister and a bunch of animals. she knew josh was the reason she moved from point a to point b, from where she'd been to where she was now. and she would never stop appreciating it. she would always take a moment to stop and think about how privileged she was now.
as she went on her way, bag at her side and sunglasses covering her eyes from the garish sunlight, she saw a familiar face at what must have been a dance studio. "hey, hey," she called, waving her arm before approaching. "shopping spree too, i see. what did you get?" nell nodded her head toward the bags next to her friend. they had known each other for a while thanks to having the same classes. she was close to a lot of her earth brethren, especially if they were in the same grade. hell, she was close to a lot of people in general. she loved to make friends.

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin lifted up one of her bags, sorting through it when her friend approached her. Looking up and closing her bag, she gave her a smile. "Hey, Nell. Yes a shopping spree" Opening one of her bags to her, she revealed a red and black pleated mini skirt, a simple red tank top, a black, long cardigen, and some ankle high brown leather (fake leather, of course) boots. "The other one is a secret." Braylin said, moving her hair to one side. "So what did you score?"

nell gazed into the shopping bag. while she might not have spreed often, she could still appreciate some good clothes. a lot of hers came from thrift, even now when she didn't have to pay for everything on her own. she shared a home with josh, she didn't only live with herself, and she could use her money for herself a lot more. she just wasn't used to actually using it for things like clothes and the such. it confused her a bit, though she wouldn't want to admit that. "oooh, fancy. cute skirt. you should have invited me," she teased without being actually serious. her friends were certainly allowed to shop without her. it was just more convenient for nell to have friends around because otherwise she tended to make bad choices.
nell blinked, before grinning slyly. "oh come on, you're hiding it from me?" she sighed as if defeated. "i just hope you're not getting nukes or something." because obviously they were easy to come by these days that braylin could pick them up at any old store. truthfully, nell was now curious as to what was in that bag but she wouldn't ask. it was a secret, after all, and she knew enough about those not to try and get it out of another person. braylin asked about her own, and she looked at her arm as if just realizing she had a bag there. "ah, i was just getting some toys for my pig. i tried playing with cat toys, but he decided he was too good for that." she rolled her eyes as if completely exasperated with her miniature pig. nell talked about her pets as if they were nuisances, but she loved them all dearly. how could she not, they were the cutest things ever? "what's your next destination, hmm?" she asked her friend, wondering if there was more shopping ahead. nell did not understand the shop to you drop thing unless it applied to food.

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin shook her head at the girl, but had to admit Nell's hyper and sweet attitude always had a way of making her smile and she nearly always had to bite back laughter around her, she might take it the wrong way. Braylin had known the girl for a little while, and she seemed crazy in a cute and outgoing way. Braylin found it sweet and charming, which was one of the reasons she found her a good friend. "Come on, you really think I'd be caught with nukes? Silly, if I needed them for something, I'd be a lot sneakier than that. Besides, if I was hiding something, you wouldn't even know it." One thing Braylin was really good at was keeping secrets. If she wanted something secret, it stayed that way until she decided otherwise.
"It's just some silly stuff for college. Don't worry about it." More like it was tools to make more hiding places in her dorm for the things she wanted hidden. Sure, making any such modifications to a dorm room was strictly forbidden, but that didn't stop. Besides, no one found these hiding spots. "How about we go for some coffee, I'll buy to make up for not inviting you. Sound good?" Tagged: Braylin BioNotes: Outfit: Here

nell was glad to have the girl play along with her. she loved it when people did that instead of just saying that no, it wasn't nukes, why would you think i had nukes? she did her best to keep up seriousness when she replied to braylin. "very true, i would think that you would keep them in some kind of cool locked suitcase. or at least the red launch button, yanno?" she didn't know if nukes were actually launched like that or if she had watched way too many movies, but she decided that a shopping bag was certainly not the best way to transport weapons. and she couldn't believe that her friend would be carrying around weapons. she was just too nice for that. and when nell took a liking to someone, she immediately saw all the good in them.
nell wore a mock pout when bray told her not to worry about her bag. "fine," she sighed, shifting her bag up on her arm a little bit. she understood preparing for college. there had been a lot different than high school. she hadn't experienced high school for long, only one year of it, and it was odd to think that her high school career had been longer. at the girl's invite, nell rolled her eyes up as if to think about it but then said, "i think i'll have to take you up on that offer. only if you buy me timbits, too." what she didn't tell braylin was that she would be slipping her the money to be back somewhere. she didn't like people buying things for her, but she long since found ways to avoid being stubborn about it. "wanna take my car or walk?" it was nice out, so nell wouldn't mind walking anywhere but she didn't know whether or not bray may be exhausted from her shopping spree.

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin smiled at the girl, and picked up her shopping bags, sliding them to the nook of her elbow. “Silly, if I really was carrying nukes, I would be completely spy-like. And in all honestly, why do those spy shows carry nukes in shiny metal brief cases? It’s kind of like putting a neon flashing sign on them, right? ‘Coz when someone carries those cases around, it always has the same thing in them.” Braylin had to admit, she loved the spunkiness the girl had. It was always a breath of fresh air from the occasional life-is-way-to-serious feeling she got. It happened occasionally, when she spent too much time on her own. And lately, she had been doing that, what with classes being out. But they were starting up in a week or so, so things would be back to normal soon. Maybe she would even go to a few parties this year. Braylin wasn’t really a partier, but she could always be the sober one at the party.
Smiling, Braylin linked arms with Nell. “Come on. I know a great place to go. They serve really cute deserts and their drinks are great too.” She said with a smile, then pulled the two across the street and slipped into the cute little restaurant. It was a lower key restaurant, but it was a great restaurant. Braylin was surprised it managed to go so unnoticed for so long. Braylin got the two a booth next to a window overlooking the streets. “So, what’s been up with you lately?” Braylin asked after ordering her drink. Braylin couldn’t help but think she always had something going on. Tagged: Braylin, Nell BioWord Count: 274 Outfit: Here

nell shook her head, meanwhile thinking that this was possibly the most serious non-serious discussion she'd ever had about nukes. the most she actually really talked about them was in history, though, and not about them being in briefcases. "i don't know, man, when i have to transport my nukes i always go with the shiny metal suitcase," she told her. though it was true, shiny metal briefcase meant something suspicious was going in there. "but you're right, people are starting to catch on. thanks james bond." she liked having conversations like this and that she could indulge with bray. why take life seriously? she didn't like doing that unless it called for it. their time was ticking, and so she never saw reason to get upset about little things. probably why she bonded so well with bray, other than the fact she was just an awesome person. nell liked to think about all the good qualities of other people, it was a hobby like making a checklist in her head.
linking arms with nell, bray had her at desserts. she tried not to indulge, but how could she resist the call of cute desserts? she squealed a little, letting bray guide her to the restaurant. such places were really her favorite to be in. anywhere with food, and she was all for it. she always liked the idea of opening a restaurant of her own, being a chef but it was pretty much impossible at this time. "you know how to make me happy, bray," nell said cheerfully, sitting down with her. at the question, nell hesitated for only a moment. it wasn't noticeable, but the girl took that time to think. "Uh...a lot I guess. I mean, time is taken up mostly by school and work. Oh! I don't know if I told you I'm working at the casino now." it was a nice place, pretty fancy especailly because it was new. and best of all, she didn't have to deal with jane in the work place. she still had to be around that woman, but not in the way that her job could be jeopardized. just my family's life, she thought bitterly.
she opened the menu but was quickly distracted as she asked, "how's school treating you? have you come to the decision to just give up on dressing properly like i have?" she was pretty sure one day she would show up in her dora the explorer slippers and that would be the day she simply gave in to actually looking appropriate. school should be the one place she didn't have to worry about looking her best. hell, everyone should be wearing their slippers and pajamas.

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - Braylin smiled at the girl, and picked up her shopping bags, sliding them to the nook of her elbow. Braylin smiled. "Leave it to Mr. James Bond to ruin everything. When he's not too busy running off with some girl, he's out ruining all of our spy secrets." She said, playing at it as if they were both spys. Deciding on a simple french onion soup with a side salad, Braylin folded up her menu and pushed it towards the empty spot next to her. "Your happiness is my only wish." She said in a very cheesy voice, than giggled slightly, enjoying herself. Braylin had a tendency to be a lot more silly with Nell around.
Raising an eyebrow, Braylin tilted her head at Nell. "The casino, huh? What are you doing there?" Braylin herself didn't think she would be able to work there. To much smoke, not enough fresh air. Too many... Sad cases of people who were just extreme gamblers, completely addicted. And, of course the few creepy old men.. Casinos just weren't her scene, but she could see Nell keeping herself just fine. "School's... Typical. Over cramming myself with the hard classes. Leaning psych. Call me crazy, but I'm taking Korean this year." She said with a small smile, then titled her head again. "What's wrong with the way I dress?" She asked with a pout.

nell snorted, rolling his eyes. "he thinks he's hot stuff because he's british, please." well, he is pretty hot in every incarnation of him, so there is that. he got all the girls, but he is kind of a douche. well, not just kind of. but he was cool, even with him messing up everything for other spies. nell watched as the girl pushed her menu away and smiled. "awww, you make my heart ache with all your adorable. how do you get so adorable? share with me your secrets!" she said the last part as if her words were conspiratorial, something that they should not be talking about in a restaurant. like spy talk.
nell nodded enthusiastically, closing her own menu. she knew she'd be getting a big meal. "i'm a blackjack dealer. it's pretty fun! i mean, i love cards so..." it's really what attracted her to casinos, other than gambling. she was very confident in her abilities, one of the only areas of her life that she was very confident in at all. "ooh, psych! so much fun. which classes are you taking this semester?" they already had some classes together, as expected. nell was glad she finally chose her psych major. "korean sounds fun though! crazy hard. a lot of eastern languages are crazy." she was trying to learn russian, but it was totally different than the ones she already knew. so she had to give bray kudos.
nell clicked her tongue. "the problem is that you are not wearing pajamas. everyone needs to wear pajamas in college." she had told lark this, it was very important to her. if everyone started dressing like that, then college would just be one big pajama party. that's what nell was hoping for.

Braylin Mae SandersEarth Graduate- - - - - - - - - - ""Though a British accent isn't something to be shunned." She said with a wink, then Braylin couldn't help but giggle at the girl. She just made things... So fun. Her giggle turned into a bit of a harder laugh, but than she got herself together and just shook her head. ""Live entertainment. It molds, yah. Either you turn into a total inappropriate dick, or you go super charming. Be thankful I'm charming. Some of the people I've worked with... Well, let's just say a swear jar wasn't enough." It was true. Some of her fellow singer/dancers where incredibly offensive, and would have totally been fired if it weren't for the fact that no one could replace them.
""Blackjack, hmn? I thought you had to be good at a game to work it? Last I remembered... I kind of kicked your butt." Braylin said, completely teasing the girl. The two had never even played before, but Braylin felt like messing with her. ""Right now I'm signed up for AP psych, Intro to Marriage Psych, Advanced Sociology, Calculus, Sophomore English and then Korean 2." Braylin still had a few classes she was debating singing up for, but they were in a more dangerous field for her. She desperately wanted to take a dance class, a vocal class, or even a performance class, but was too afraid it would trigger her. Plus her Aunt might not even let her. Braylin could tell her Aunt worried about it. It was sweet.
""Korean's not too hard. Actually I think it's easier for me than when I took a French class in high school." Granted, at that time she had been very sick with Anorexia, or Ana as she preferred to refer to it as (for some reason the actual title of anorexia or anorexic scared her), but still, it was a hard class. The fact that she also had a psycho german teacher probably didn't help either. Yelling APOSTROPHE and ACCENT AIGU or ACCENT GRAVE at the students from across the room probably didn't help either.
""Hun.. You're going to change the world with your crazy ideas someday. Could you really see a sorority girl wearing pajamas to class?" Braylin asked, with an eyebrow raised, though she had to admit the idea sounded fun.

nell held up her hands in what could have been best described a surrendering gesture. "you know what, i just can't knock the british accent. not when i have my own lovely new york one." it wasn't necessarily fading since she'd pronounced words the way she did ever since she was little, but she had been assimilating into canadian culture rather well, even though it was with a noticeable lack of 'eh'. nell really did admire bray and her talents, though there was a long list of those she admired simply because she looked up people easily. "i honestly cannot imagine total inappropriate dick bray. i don't believe it's even possible." she shook her head, denying the possibility that this earth girl could be any different than who she was now. of course, she didn't know of her struggles with her body or any of the deeper things. people tended to stay barely scratched surfaces.
she rolled her eyes, biting her tongue as she gave bray a stern look. "what's that? i think i heard a challenge. was that what that was, bray? are you challenging me?" nell would love to take bray on in a game of blackjack. half of it was honestly luck, most of it was having a good eye and knowing when to stay and when to take a chance. she loved all of it, everything about her job. she was used to hours spent on her feet from being a bartender, though there was a few downsides as with every job. she listened to bray's roster, rubbing her neck with her hand. "well jeez. you go girl. are you liking it all so far?" in true nell fashion, nell did not elaborate on her own classes, merely asking bray about her own. she didn't find talking about her own life as interesting as talking about her friends'.
propping her chin up with her hand on the table, nell lifted her eyebrows with a soft sound in her throat. "huh. what made you interested in korean?" she wondered if there was anything in particular that drew bray to the language. nell wanted to learn many languages, and she had a few grasp on a few of them. the idea of communication enthralled her -- being able to have a conversation with someone from each part of the world sounded terrific to her.
nell laughed a little, shaking her head. bray may have had too much faith in her in that department. or maybe it was just nell not being able to believe in herself. "be the change you want to see. i will start monday. everyone will come to know my appreciation of dora the explorer." she usually slept in flannel and long-sleeved shirts in the colder seasons, so at least it wouldn't be anything skimpy or inappropriate. as for a sorority girl... "they can still doll themselves up and everything. at least we don't have sororities. we just have alliances." she was glad of the freedom to now be able to talk about such things in public without worry of who might overhear. all who would overhear were other elementals.
