Spring finally seemed to have arrived. Even though April was still a dreary month, the snow was also melting and Astrid could wear a wider range of her clothing. The sandals couldn't come out yet, but she decided to go for a walk around the lake to celebrate. Well, she had already done that. Astrid was a morning person, and she wouldn't force anyone else to be, but she had also invited Annabelle Dale to come with her. It was a spur of the moment invitation, she had sent the message at 7 AM while she was only a mile around the side of the lake. As much as she appreciated some quiet time to enjoy nature, she still liked to share the moment with friends. It was a Saturday, and the week had been peaceful enough. It was time to check up on how Annabelle's week had been. So she sent out a text, maybe sorta totally forgetting that it would likely cause her phone to make a noise that could wake her up until after she sent it. It was things like these that got other people a little ticked off at Astrid's morning habits. "Hey! At the lake, let's go for a walk? - Astrid :D", she had sent.
In the meantime, which could have been hours, Astrid started doing yoga on the beach. It was past dawn but not quite sunrise, leaving the lake reflecting the lovely shade of twilight. If Astrid was more artistic, she would have taken a picture or gotten out a sketchbook. If this was the case, she would have also had an extremely full camera or sketchbook, as she saw these sorts of views every morning. She considered herself a very rich person in beautiful images, especially when all she had to do was look in the mirror. Okay, maybe wouldn't take in that far. At least not every day.
Astrid wasn't entirely sure it was something Anabelle would be up for; she was hesitant to invite her. The lake wasn't exactly an adventure, but it was just a nice place to hang out in the morning. Plus, she thought the water would appeal to Belle. Still, Astrid comforted herself with the knowledge that if anyone would accept, Belle would. She smiled to herself while raising her leg up for the Dancer pose. It wasn't exactly easy in jeans but she dug her left foot into the sand and remained steady, focusing on the sound of the water and facing out east awaiting the sun.

Mornings really were not her thing. She heard the phone go off, the Pokemon league theme music filling the air, but she made no move to so much as look at it. Comfortable, was her half-coherent thought as she instead snuggled further into the blankets. The near-fourteen year old girl had stayed up a majority of the night playing video games on her laptop with friends and so she had not gotten enough sleep to be up and at 'em right away. She dozed off for another hour or two and was woken afresh by the sound of her roommate coming in and slamming the door loudly in frustration.
A groggy and irritated Annabel lifted her head from the pillow, gaze unfocused and bleary, hair dishevelled. "What the fuck's your problem?" she grumbled. The reproachful look the girl gave her was not all that surprising. Annabel was usually pretty cheerful and friendly but she also was not a morning person in any sense of the word. "Forget the wrong side of the bed, looks like someone woke up on the floor," the other girl quipped. Annabel narrowed her eyes. "I'm in bed." She wasn't in the mood for dealing with a smart aleck and considered going back to sleep. "My boyfriend broke up with me. The ass."
And so the rest of the morning was spent comforting the girl and talking about how the guy hadn't been that great for her anyway. Annabel hadn't wanted to get up, really, but she did care about her friends. She had completely forgotten about the text until she got a second one from her brother asking if she had anything she wanted in particular at the store. Freaking college students. She envied his ability to be out shopping at the grocery store while she was here at school. She listed off a few things and then realised she had another text as well.
Oops.
Feeling a little bad, she said, Be at the lake in like, ten. It didn't take her long to find Astrid and she raised her eyebrows at the other girl. "Since when were you in Cirque du Soliel?" she joked, not really meaning anything by it. It was not said sarcastically, either, but with a smile on her face. "I wasn't ignoring your text, by the way, I swear. Just... eh, long morning. Hard to explain!" She was open with her friends about things but Astrid probably didn't want to hear about all the drama her roommate had put her through and that she'd slept in and all that. "Have you been out here all morning?" She sounded almost disbelieving. She liked nature, though, and she liked the lake, so she often spent the entire morning playing Gameboy by the lake some days. There wasn't good enough reception for her laptop. No wifi in the wilderness. "So, about that walk..."

Just as Astrid was about to change sides to her pose, her phone startled her with its faint chime. She dropped her foot and picked up her phone from the sand. Finally, she couldn't help but think. There was still school work to be done, and she had already spent three hours on the beach. Still, she wouldn't hurry Belle. Astrid had gone to the lake knowing full well how long it could take her to wake up and respond. As she read the message, she was comforted more by the fact she chose to accept. The wait was not for naught. She resumed her yoga, switching sides.
Her ears perked up and her balance faltered slightly as she heard Annabelle. She dropped her foot again, and turned around. "Not my first job choice, I promise," she returned. When she met eyes with Belle, she smiled. Her arrival had broken the silence of the morning, a time Astrid was thankful for. Silence and quiet had their times, but once the sun rose Astrid felt the need to mimic its time to open to the world.
"And the fact you showed up is enough proof of that, I don't need any more proof of your intentions," she replied. Astrid was as nosy as the next person, yes, but she respected privacy to their face. She did not require justifications, and preferred not to interrupt proper conversation with prying. It really was a waste of time.
"It depends what you call 'morning', dear," she said, "I woke up at 5:30, but you could even call 2 AM 'morning'." The routine suited her far more than late nights. The time before sunrise felt like an entirely different day, one that she could spend all by herself. It was a private time just for her, and was rarely intruded upon due to the conflicting schedules of her peers. Generally, teenagers were not known for happily waking up when she did. Even Astrid had to rely on her alarm clock in the winter.
"Ah, yes. Shall we?", Astrid said and rubbed her hands together. She didn't start walking just yet, giving her one last chance to back out politely. "Either way will do for me, but I did make it around quite far to my right," she said and motioned with her arms.

Annabel made a face. "Well, good. Some of the shit they can do is freaky." It was fascinating in a way, she supposed, but she didn't think that the human body was meant to bend like that. Then there were people who could balance on thin ropes high in the air and she really wondered who on Earth would risk their lives like that. Them, obviously.
She did not have as much respect for boundaries as Astrid did. It was not that she was intentionally nosy or irritating, more like she did not think anything about asking questions and showing an interest. If the other person got offended they could always choose not to answer, now couldn't they? "Surprised you waited, really," she remarked. "Don't think I could have." Hm. Did that make her a bad friend? She was not a patient person and so she would easily get irritated and walk off if it seemed like someone was standing her up. It was a bit inconsiderate but she wasn't a total people pleaser. Friendly, yes, but not a pushover.
The Water elemental laughed. "I usually crash at around five AM. You and your proper sleep schedule." She stayed up most nights until the wee hours of the morning playing video games and talking to her online friends. She knew that her brother, whom she lived with, did not approve but she also knew that he did not have much of a choice. She'd wait until he went to sleep and play them anyway. Sometimes she stayed in the dorms for convenience. "You didn't answer my question," she pointed out when she realised. "Have you been out here since... uh, five thirty, or whatever?" No boundaries. None. It didn't seem personal anyway.
She didn't mind going for a walk and so she nodded. "Sure." Astrid said something about 'right' and she started in that direction with purpose. Hey, they were meant to be going for a walk, might as well start walking. "Right it is." She'd actually subconsciously lifted her right hand slightly as if trying to decide which way right actually was. A little tic, a common habit. "So what's up?" Might as well make conversation and all that. She liked talking.
