during spring and summer, you would usually find an earth elemental outside, enjoying the rays of sunshine and the smell of life returning to the world. they would be found helping nature grow once again before it would start dying in the fall once more. every spring and every summer, this was what rhea could be found doing. but then the dreadful time of fall and winter came along when everything became suddenly sad and boring, when the leaves would fall off of the trees and died. it really saddened the teenager to see that everything became so gloomy so quickly. during winter, she became the total opposite of herself. when, during the summer, she would be known as an adventurer and someone who would always be doing sports and such, during winter, she would hide inside just like a bear would go in its cave to sleep through winter. to be honest, she would have loved to be able to do that. it sounded so comfortable and she would not have had to confront this cold day by going outside. if she would not have minded spending her day alone once again because she was mainly the only one of her friends who remained at school in the dormitories even though she had graduated – her parents had asked her to keep an eye on her little sister since this was her first year at the academy, she probably would have stayed inside. but the fact was that she missed everyone. she missed hanging out with people even though school had barely started again and she had seen them mostly all over the break. to be honest, she needed to have some fun. the last few days had been all about taking care of her sister and making sure she was not having any kind of trouble adjusting to her new life. to be honest, she just needed to have some time for herself and to have fun. and who better to have fun with than one of her best friends, nell? they could do whatever crazy things they felt like doing. this ws all worth confronting the cold day. instead of bailing on the opportunity of hanging out, rhea decided to go out and was instantly attacked by the wind. it certainly did not help that she saw some of the wind students practicing not far from there. she rolled her eyes and made her way off of the school grounds as quickly as she could, trying to make it to nell’s place quickly. when she got to the door, she pondered the idea of simply barging in. being an environmentalist, she had promised herself long ago to never do or buy something that would help pollute the earth. she always bought local and biological things. even when she was at school, she tried to do her best. she had never taken the bus when she knew she could walk to where she had to go. she had refused the car her parents had wanted to offer her for her sixteenth birthday. however, now, she found herself slightly wishing that she would have accepted or at least take the bus on this one day. it was freezing out here and she felt as though her nose was about to fall right off of her face. she kept from barging in, however. even though nell was one of her best friends and she got along well with josh, this was their place and she knew good manners, even if some people would have disagreed. she rolled her eyes and knocked quickly on the door, jumping a little and moving around in order to try and make herself feel warmer. nothing was working though. freaking hurry up, already! she told the door, frowning. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - credit , to me tagged , mister nell doe shepherd, aka the magnificent stark. <3 music , everything on my comp. outfit , clickers, bby.words , SIX THREE TWO. notes , starter posts always suck. big time.

Nell was unfamiliar with the feeling of hate. She only had chance encounters with it, mostly fleeting things, and she had love for everyone and everything. The world was beautiful to her because it was so brand new, even after two years of living in it. Never did she stop finding things to love about it, to look at with wonder-filled eyes and think of how wonderful it was. She never stopped loving. Even in the cold, the winter knocking on every door, every wall, demanding entrance. She thought of winters back in New York, how fierce they had been, made even worse by the fact that she never had heating or air-conditioning. They'd been luxuries, something that her parents could afford. Even when knowing they had been terrible parents, she could acknowledge all of the sacrifices they'd made in the beginning. Feeding the children even if they could not eat themselves, giving up the things they love to support each other. Though it had been a terrible condition, though everything had been wrong with that situation, there had been some goodness in the small things. She wouldn't let herself forget that, even if she forgot everything else.
Outside, she wished that she could go back in and curl up in a ball under the covers so she could hide away. But she had business to do with the garden maze. She had replaced all of the delicate tulips and replaced the with winter jasmine and evergreen trees. It was like a winter paradise outside, one that she'd created herself. She was proud of the maze, and always happy that she could even have one. A lot of the times she did not think of how lucky she was, but if she turned and looked behind, saw everything she'd been through to get here, she would understand that she truly was blessed in many ways. Even with her life how it was now, with the tension and stress fraying on her nerves. Her family had never been good to her, and now it seemed she could never get away. She was trapped in every way imaginable, and even when she tried not to think of it, she did anyway. She couldn't forget, not when there was so much on the line. Her family. The second family she'd ever tried to create, and it could fall apart right her and now because of the will of her enemies. She was powerless, not able to protect anyone, and there was devastation in that thought.
The Earth girl created a path herself to return to the back door so that she didn't get lost, huddling into her jacket and crossing her arms over her chest. Breath came out in clouds and Nell had the temptation to pretend she was smoking like a little kid might. The heat of the mansion pressed against her, threw its blanket over her shoulders and welcomed her inside. She took off her jacket and put it in a closet, still clothed in a sweater. At least it wasn't snowing. Yet. It was hard to predict when snowfall would come in this place. She opened the fridge to look for something to eat, but heard a rapping on the door. She made her way to the foyer, and smiled as she opened the door and saw Rhea. "Hey, hey!" she said before frowning. "Did you walk here? Jeez, you must be freezing." Nell knew she didn't have a car, so she took her arm and pulled her inside with a small laugh. "What's up? I was just about to make food. Probably some hot chocolate." It wasn't a surprise that she was making food, since this was Nell and all. Rhea knew that very well.

rhea probably easily fell under the category of spoiled children. throughout her entire life, she had never had to worry about anything except from exams. and even then, she never really worry about those all that much. her life had been a breeze. she had a great family. her sister was wonderful, even though they always had these little sister fights when hestia would steal some of her clothes. her parents were loving and quite helpful with whatever she had ever gone through, even if her dad was on edge most of the time and could snap at her at any moment of the day. she had never felt that she needed anything. her needs and desires would most likely be fulfilled as soon as she let her family know about them. like when she had told them, at the age of ten, that she would like moving in a larger home so that she wouldn’t have to spend her time having to listen to her sister moving around in her bed at night, thus making her unable to have a good night of sleep. she had never truly appreciated when she had in life. until the age of twelve, she had always wanted more out of it, not realizing that some people on this planet didn’t have the quarter of the things that she did. it was also at the same time that she learned what a global warming really meant for every single human being and the rest of the living things. it sickened her to see how much people used their home without caring about what they were really doing to it. and to think that she had been part of it, even though her parents were doing their part probably more than anybody in canada, sickened her even more. it was only then that she understood why her parents did all they did daily, and she soon started doing the same. now, she tried appreciating what had been given to her more than she ever had. she never asked for anything unless she truly needed it. by the time nell finally got to the door, rhea felt as if her noise was about to fall right off of her face. she imagined that she would look somewhat like voldemort in harry potter and the simple thought put a slight smile on her lips, even if she felt as cold as humanly possible without having hypothermia. even after she had been pulled inside by her friend, the teenager felt the need to keep her arms tightly wrapped around her body in order to warm herself up. she did not bother taking off her winter coat and, for once, she was glad she had put on two pairs of socks. when she took off her boots, she instantly wished she had not and curled her toes. however, she felt that it would not have been right to keep her boots on because they most likely would have left traces everywhere around the floor. and that just was not right. it was your problem when you were at home. when you were visiting someone, though, it was direspectful and just plain wrong. when she heard nell’s words concerning hot chocolate, the girl’s eyes snapped up and a grin appeared on her face. instead of standing there as she tried to warm herself up like an ice statue might have, she moved slightly and nodded her head quickly. dear mother earth, freaking yes! gogogogo, lady! she said, chuckling slightly. that was just like rhea. she had definitely never been a believer. she had never believed that there was a god somewhere watching over them who had created everything they ever let their eyes fall on. however, the earth and all of its wonders was definitely something she strongly believed in. also, do you have something like.. oh, i don’t know.. three thousand blankets? she asked, wearing a completely serious face. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - credit , to me tagged , mister nell doe shepherd, aka the magnificent stark. <3 music , everything on my comp. outfit , clickers, bby.words , SIX SIX OH. notes , finally replied to this. yessss.

By this time Rhea was resembling Frosty the snow man with her red nose, she could only imagine how she must have been feeling. She slid across the floor when the girl told her to move it, the floors of this place providing endless fun. Sometimes it was hard to remember that this was her home. It terrified her and warmed her at once. This would be where she lived with Josh the rest of her life. She didn't let her thoughts stray to children running around or any sort of family they might have in the future. She was only nineteen, her mind was firmly pinned in the present and the present only. The one thing she was confident in was the fact she'd be marrying Josh someday, because she loved him now and why would that ever change? Rhea asked after blankets, and in a before time she might have laughed and said yeah right. But this was the Dale mansion, more like a museum than a home, with a bountiful supply of anything you might need. "Possibly. We'll have to look. Light me just put the hot chocolate on...." She went into the kitchen, all nice and shiny and she wondered if she was going to ever fit the card of a rich bitch. She wasn't glossy enough, high-class enough. She was Nell from the South Bronx, not anything else. She couldn't be a trophy wife, and she hoped that was not what Josh wanted.
The hot chocolate did not take long to make, and she poured a cup for Rhea, sliding it over to her. She heard that you could make it from scratch, but she did not know how. It was something she'd have to look into, as much as she loved cooking, even when it was not truly cooking. "Now for those blankets..." she said after sipping at the liquid for a little bit. Her home still scared her. It was large and sprawling and she was not the best with directions. Ever. So when faced with the challenge of looking for a linen closet, it was like facing a labyrinth. Just an adventure. If she thought of it like that, the place was a lot less intimidating. Not as fearsome for her to consider. She wondered. How Josh could have grown up here without getting lost all the time. And then she remembered that he certainly was not as inept as her. She bounded up the staircase in the foyer, and found a closet that might have been the x mark on the map. "Voila!" she said, throwing the door open and gazing at its contents. Nell took a few blankets and began throwing them over her shoulder to where Rhea was, hoping she'd catch her. "It's a never-ending blanket supplies!" She laughed rather maniacally as she said this.

rhea had never really thought what it would be like to have her own home, to have her own family. when she went out with friends in town or something and saw small families, she would smile, but it was never because she wished she had one of her own. it was simply because she thought the kid was the cutest thing in the world. she could not really think of having her own family anyway, not at this age. it would have been quite responsible. sure, she was pretty good at watching her sister. but that was only because it was her sister. she sure could get along well with other kids, but that was only because she was just as childish as they were. if the time had ever come for her to discipline her sister, she wouldn’t. she would probably just let her do whatever as long as she didn’t think it was dangerous for the younger girl. for her parents, it had never really been like they had an older and a younger daughter. it had always been like they had had twins because of rhea’s behavior. still, she understood concepts that only adults could such as sex, alcohol abuse and drugs. she wasn’t all like a child. she could not exactly have said that she lived in the past and missed the days when she could run around all day long and it would be considered as normal. however, she did not have her entire future planned out like some of her more serious peers did. she found it ridiculous to know exactly what car you would die once you had this certain amount of money. and to think about what age you would have your first child at. couldn’t they just simply enjoy their youth? with all these plans, they put barriers in front of themselves that they could not cross. she preferred being free as the wind and going wherever she wanted to go. boundaries had definitely not been made for her. alrighty, alrighty. she managed to mutter. as they moved to the kitchen, the girl found herself jumping around in order to try and keep herself slightly warm. rhea’s face lit up with a grin when she saw the cup of chocolate and she pounced on it just like a lion would have pounced on a zebra. she sipped the hot drink slowly, but truly had to control herself in order to not drink it too fast. a burn was really something that she wanted to stay away from right now. however, when she heard the word blanket, she looked just like a fat kid on a diet who had just heard the word doughnut. her head snapped up and she quickly followed nell to the closet. she put her cup down on the counter in the kitchen so she would not drop it with all the blankets. she liked hot chocolate, but wrapping yourself in thick blankets just generally felt way better. as they walked through the house, the girl found herself getting somewhat impatient, her feet were already getting colder by the second and her hands felt like they were covered in ice. she tried to move around even more to make her blood circulate through her body again, but it seemed to be no use. finally, they reached the closet which was meant to be filled with blankets and, when nell opened it, rhea was truly impressed. her eyes widened and she felt like running inside the closet and closing the door behind her, then making all the blankets fall on top of her. she would probably die because she wouldn’t have any oxygen, but it was totally worth it. though, as nell started throwing blankets at her, rhea found herself being quite pleased with the amount that she was getting. she wrapped two around her shoulders and two around her torso and legs. she even put a smaller one over her head, wrapping it around her neck and pulling it up over her nose. i’m goooooood! the sound of her voice was muffled by the blankets and so she had to talk louder than usual. she rolled her eyes at her friend and shook her head slightly. you so crazy, snellie! she laughed and looked around the house. we should cover ourselves in blankets and be blanket monsters.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - credit , to me tagged , mister nell doe shepherd, aka the magnificent stark. <3 music , everything on my comp. outfit , clickers, bby.words , SEVEN THREE OH. notes , woot.

Nell continued to laugh when she heard the nickname, amused by it as her fingers grabbed hold of whatever they could in the closet. Eventually, she figured she'd come upon Narnia, and that would be quite the odd thing to explain to her guest. Before, she might have questioned the amount of linens piled up, but she had come to realize in living in the mansion how necessary it was. There were more rooms on a single floor than the rooms she'd had in any house she lived in combined. Which was not exactly saying much, but when making the comparison she enjoyed thinking of herself as a middle class kid from the burbs. She took a handful of blankets and dropped them over her, some sliding to the floor uselessly, others draping her arms and her head. She lifted her hands to make claws and growled in her throat. Pulling down one of the blankets that had been covering her face and making it hard to breathe, she commented, "We should find some of the cats to frighten." Out of love, because she knew they'd be able to handle it. She'd imagine Eris and Pablo would simply be curious about the huge forms draped in blankets. Thinking of it, maybe if they had a dog it'd be easier to scare the animals. As it were, they merely had cats and a lot of birds. Not so easily intimidated creatures.
Her hair now in disarray, fuzzy and the static cling causing strands to stick to her face, she scratched her head with one hand. The other held up the blankets she'd shoveled out of the closet, warm against her chest. She didn't want to move them, afraid that when she did she'd be remind of just how low the temperatures had dropped that day. "Ooh, I know!" she said, before bending over to awkwardly pick up the other blankets that had been discarded on the floor, everything falling off her back like water. Eventually, she managed to get it all together and headed back into the kitchen, dropping her mountain of blankets on the kitchen island before moving a few of the chairs around. Not for the first time, she appreciated the immense space the mansion provided. "We can make one of those fort things. With the chairs. Isn't that how they're made?" She was almost embarrassed to ask, since the big secret here was that she'd never made one before. But she figured it would be a good way for the two girls to warm up. They certainly had enough blankets for it. Nell gathered the pile in her arms again to drop it on the floor. "We need a lot of cushioning..." she murmured, using her sock-clad feet to try and spread out the blankets that had been carelessly thrown to the floor. She had no doubt that it was clean, considering that everything in the place was clean. One could eat off the floor, though she did not suggest it whatsoever.

this was one of the things rhea loved the most about hanging out with people. she loved hearing the warmth of their laughter, seeing their smiles. it made her feel better about herself and made her have hope, even if she had never truly lost it in anything. she didn’t understand those who preferred to spend their time alone, in their little corner, thinking about dark things all day long. like the thunder bunch. how did they manage to spend all day long without coming in contact with another human being? to be honest, rhea would have gone crazy at the end of that day. it probably was due to the fact that she had never really spent a day all on her own. there was always her parents or her little sister. they did so many family activities that rhea didn’t really have a choice but to get along with them. it would have been really painful if she did not. as she watched her friend through her thick layer of blankets, she could not help but think that she was glad she had such good friends to count on. she sometimes wondered if loners had any friends at all. y’know, with that nickname.. you should start calling me squidward. ‘cause, y’know, that episode of spongebob when he got his super awesome snail. well, she was called snellie! rambling was one of rhea’s bad habits. she would start with saying something and then could go on for several minutes about the subject before she realized she was talking nonsense and would stop herself. when she looked back at her friends and saw her covered in blankets just like the girl was, she bursted into laughters, a blanket falling off of her head as she bent forward, wrapping an arm around herself. we totally should. cats are so funny when scared. she said, shrugging her shoulders slightly, even though it might not have been really apparent due to the two blankets that were covering them. the fact that she was wearing rather a lot of clothes and that she had at least five blankets to top all of those clothes, she was starting to feel a little bit confined. part of her had the urge to shrug everything off and go naked – well, maybe not naked since it was freezing and it would have been slightly awkward seeing as nell and herself were not at that stage in their friendship and probably never would be. however, another part of heart felt so comfortable that she started feeling her knees get weak, threatening to let her fall to the ground asleep, literally. soon enough, nell’s voice called her back to reality, though, and she straightened her back and looked at her friend who, if it had been possible, would have just had a lightbulb appear above her head due to the genius idea she had just seemed to have. the thought caused rhea to grin under her blankets and to follow her friend, slowly but surely. when she entered the kitchen, nell had already dropped the blankets on top of the island, but rhea was just too comfortable with the blankets around herself that she decided to simply watch as her friend seemed to be making everything ready for her genius idea. when she explained it, the girl immediately let every single blanket fall to the floor behind her and stepped out of them, a grin covering her face. let’s do this! she exclaimed enthusiastically and stood behind a chair. she looked around a little and rose an eyebrow as she set her eyes back on her friend. wait, are we supposed to do this here? wouldn’t it be better in like.. the living room or something? she asked as she started picking up her blankets and putting them on top of nell’s on the island. well, until she saw her friend gather everything and drop them on the floor. she giggled a little and sat in one of the chairs. having a little sister, rhea had stopped making forts only recently and so she had a pretty good idea on how to make them so they would last. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - credit , to me tagged , mister nell doe shepherd, aka the magnificent stark. <3 music , everything on my comp. outfit , clickers, bby.words , SIX NINE EIGHT. notes , here i go again with a shitty, museless post. As Nell had learned very quickly in the world, people were weird. And weird as in she might not understand them at times, or they would do something that did not fit quite right, and she would be wondering about their intentions. Then she would remember her and Tilly and the fact that it was what made the world great, the weirdness, the things they did not understand. She did not let herself regret everything she had missed, she did not allow room for regrets. But there was those things she couldn't help, the one regret that she could not simply will away by looking at the bright side. No matter what she thought (it was self-defense, after years of torture it was only expected, it wasn't like you) she knew that it would stick with her. She could not wash herself clean of that one night, it was what would haunt her, it would be the dreams that she could not remember in the morning. Everyone had that one thing that they just could not forget. She liked that kinship she shared with the world, enjoyed that she could see another person and acknowledge that they had secrets too. A lot of people may have wanted to be different or unique, but she really wanted to fit in. She wanted to sit in a roomful of people and think that she could blend in with them. But now, she understood it simply was not possible. With the stigma attached to her name, she would be Nell Shepherd, the girl who got away with murder. She would not be another face in a room, just another person sitting in the DMV, filling out paperwork. Even if it was for another reason, a good reason, she would not have liked it. She did not enjoy the limelight, she preferred the shadows. Other people deserved that spot, they deserved the honor of being remembered. The Earth graduate would be content with just helping one person out along the way.
And Rhea was definitely weird, in a cute and good way. She had not actually remember that episode until she mentioned it, and then she was laughing with the recollection. Nell could not watch too many shows religiously, follow them along. That would take up too much time that she simply did not have. The only show that she actually could say she's seen every episode of was Dora the Explorer. She got that it was a kid's show, but she couldn't help how much she loved it. Especially when watching it with friends while they freaked out that Dora would not respond to them quickly enough. "Wait, the one where Gary runs away, right?" Nell was still chuckling, warming up underneath the blankets as conversation distracted her from any sort of discontent in matters of the chill. "Dude, you are comparing me to a snail. But I'm going to take that as a compliment, even though they eat my plants all the time." She liked looking at them because they were cool, but when it came to the maze out back they could be a nuisance. Being a girl who could not even kill a bug (the cup trick worked good enough for her) she was often lost about what to do with them. One time she ended up relocating them downtown, to the hiking trails in a tank she had collected them in. She figured it would be the same as exterminating them without the actual exterminating. They wouldn't be able to come back, right? Abruptly, she imagined an army of snails invading her garden and eating everything they could get their slimy mouths around. Nothing like that mental image to skeeve her out.
The girl brought up a good point about it being the kitchen. It may not have been the best location for their fort. At the words, still with her hands on her hips, Nell smiled. "Which one?" she said slyly, considering there was a lot of them. But, she grabbed the blankets and headed out to the one next to the front foyer. At least she did not get lost from their. She looked around and said, "All right, so uhm...should we have brought chairs from the kitchen out? Ooh, wait, we have the recliner." She dropped the blankets and half-skipped over them, only resulting in tripping over it, and falling to the floor. Giggling, she gripped at her knee after banging it on the coffee table, tears of pain in her eyes. It felt wet, but she didn't know whether it was because her skin was cold or it she had actually cut her leg open. Jesus, she really needed to watch where she was going. Though half of her scars were the result of an lackluster history, the other half were thanks to incidents like this when her klutziness shone through. And she usually wasn't such a klutz! She could juggle, for god's sake! "You..." she started to tell Rhea as she rolled on the floor, trying to gather herself together. "You...go on without me." She didn't know when her nervous reaction of laughing would end, but it didn't feel like any time soon. "Can you look at my leg and see if it's bleeding?" She took her hands off, not in the right mind at that point to be able to tell whether or not there was blood on her leg.
