It had been nearly a week now sense Pyson had come home from Berlin for the fourth time, and every time the wind grad made the trip back and forth getting back into the swing of school life got a little easier. He wasn't missing classes this time, at the very least, even if he did still run late on occasion. His teachers didn't want to strangle him anymore, which was the important part. The only thing he hated about coming back in the middle of things like this was that he never had time for anything but school, most of the time anyway. Today he found himself with a rare afternoon off. Classes were done, practice was over, there was nothing left for him to do. It was in this miracle period of down time that he realized he hadn't once hung out with Josh sense he'd gotten back. Usually that was the first thing that would happen, the two would meet up somewhere in Maple Hollow for coffee, drinks, food, or some combination of the two, but somehow that step had gotten skipped this time around.
A small frown crossed his pretty face as he kept thinking about the fact that he hadn't said so much as two words to his best friend in a week. Unacceptable. He began cruising around the campus to all the places he knew Josh frequented. The biology rooms, history classrooms, the grounds. The fire grad was nowhere to be found. He stood in the main lobby of the academy at a loss for where to look next, the campus was huge but there were only certain places Josh would normally go. Of course this could be one of those days when he decided to break habit and go hang out somewhere different, that would be Pyson's luck. He shook his head and grinned, he was almost positive that that would be the case today of all days as he walked out to the student parking lots where the college students usually parked their cars. If the Lambo was gone so was Josh. It didn't take long to spot as their cars stuck out like stunning sore thumbs in the sea of normal, every day sedans and sport coups that the other students drove, first he saw the Skyline and sitting in the parking spot right next to it was the Lambo. So he is still here.
He pulled his keys from the inside pocket of his blazer and hit the unlock button on the fob, the little churp from his car signaled it was safe to open the door without the alarm going bonkers. He opened the passenger side door and tossed his shoulder bag inside then shut the door and leaned against it. "If I were a Josh where would I be.. He sighed and looked up, the sky was gathering with thunderheads again, another storm on the way no doubt. Pyson had always liked the rain, but this raining almost every day thing.. He didn't like so much. As he was looking up a rather large drop of rain fell and hit him squarely on the forehead, he opened the back door of the car and looked in the floorboard where he usually kept his umbrella. Of course it wasn't there. Time to get inside! He hit the button to lock his car then took off at a sprint for the big double doors as the rain began to fall freely, he just barely made it inside before the bottom fell out and it started to pour down rain. Luckily he'd only gotten slightly damp. He shook off as he walked inside. Then it hit him like a ton of bricks. The library!
He knew where to look now, the place Josh and him had spent most of their time, especially in high school, the library. Why hadn't he thought of that first? He made a quick de-tour by the campus store and purchased a rather large bag of gummy bears. It was only after his first encounter with Josh that he learned that they were sold at the small little store, he'd been a loyal customer sense. He sprinted down the halls towards the library, ignoring the several angry barks he got from teachers and hall monitors about running in the building. When he burst through the library doors he heaved a deep sigh to catch his breath. The librarian looked up with a start and gave him a rather stern look and placed her index finger over her lips. Mr. Sato if you please! She scolded in hushed tones. Pyson could only laugh and give her an apologetic smile as he made his way inside.
As he wandered through the countless isles of books it seemed that Josh was nowhere to be found here either. Then the thought crossed his mind that maybe he wasn't out of one of his other classes yet. He'd gone by the two rooms that the classes for Josh's majors had been held, but Pyson knew full well that Josh would put off his disliked classes till the end of the day if he could. He walked back to the music history section and pulled a small collection of books from the shelf and made his way to their usual studying table. Might as well get some work done while he waited. He sat the books down and opened the bag of gummy bears as quietly as possible. He popped a few of the chewy candies in his mouth as he began to read through one of the books. Now all he could do was wait.

Coffee in one hand and half a sub sandwich in the other, Joshua walked alongside one of his classmates for his senior-level biology course. He wasn't the most amiable or social of people but though he was not friends with a great deal of them, Joshua's classmates got to see a side of him that he tended to repress around everyone else. The biology nerd side. He understood that most people wouldn't understand if he babbled about microbiology or neuroscience. Nor would they understand his intense passion and desire to become a physician-scientist. He often joked about it with the classmate that he now kept pace with. "I'm sure the prof loves you, though," the boy teased jokingly. "Aren't your kind like, a dying breed?" Their kind. Joshua rolled his eyes. "Rare breed. We're special." Now he was joking back, for the way that he'd said special was enough to clue his partner in. They laughed for a moment, Josh smirking and the other boy grinning. "Have you ever asked him about what it's like?"
It just so happened that the professor they were discussing was one of those rare folks that Joshua wanted to become. He shook his head. "I don't think he knows." A shrug. He didn't go around babbling constantly about how he wanted to be a certain kind of doctor, after all. He'd only told the guy beside him because he'd flipped his shit when he'd heard that Josh would be attending medical school for eight years. His reaction had been something of a sputtered, "And why the fuck is that?" in so many words.
They went back and forth about the latest lectures and assignments in the class as they walked, including a bunch of jargon that Joshua knew for a fact would confuse the majority of people that he talked to on a regular basis. This was a nice change. They sat in different areas of the room most days and wouldn't interrupt one another even if they were side by side, so a silence fell after they'd entered the classroom and Josh had tossed the empty coffee cup into the bin by the door. Lunch had been spent studying, mostly, for he was determined to stay on top of everything this school year the same as he had all of the years before. He was going to graduate with good credit and get into medical school. He turned his attention to the professor when the man walked in, now contemplating approaching him about the whole physician-scientist deal, and committed himself to focus for the next couple hours.
After class he checked his watch for the time and then leaned against the wall outside the room, deciding what he should do with his extra time. Studying seemed like a productive use of it and so he raised his hand in a lazy farewell to the boy he'd been talking to before class and headed for the library. The halls were a bit congested thanks to the fact that several classes let out at once but it was nothing compared to the mess of the Academy when all of the high school students left at once. That was never a fun time. He twitched his lips into a brief smile when he saw the librarian, a woman whom he'd been on rather good terms with for a while now. After she'd learned that he wasn't the type of student to set books on fire for the hell of it and that he was actually quite the bookworm, she'd left him alone.
He had gathered a few books for research and made his way toward his usual table when he nearly lost his hold on them in surprise. He recovered, walked purposely up to the table, and whacked his friend (lightly) across the back of the head. "You never told me you were back, asshole." He sat down as if he had not just physically assaulted his buddy or called him names. He figured Pyson would know he meant well by it. "I feel shunned and am frankly offended. Shame on you." Nah, he wasn't that upset. It did suck each time that Pyson disappeared from his life however. Close friends were hard to come by in Joshua's world. Py was not the sort of confidant that Nell or Lark were to him, nor Devin, but he was still one of the Fire's closest friends. He stuck his hand into the bag of gummies without asking and took a couple, offering a trollish grin. "You don't mind, yeah?" Yeah, he really hoped Pyson knew he was just playing around. Sometimes it was hard to tell with how serious the Fire could get. "So? How was it?" He was eager to get all caught up in the life of Pyson Sato.

Between the silence of the library and the ample stores of gummy bears, the wind grad found himself quite content to just sit here for the rest of the afternoon and read. He'd gotten completely lost in the book in front of him, his eyes scanned over the pages quickly but thoroughly as he instinctively popped gummy bears in his mouth a few at a time. He liked to mix the flavors. As a matter of fact he'd gotten so wrapped up in the book that he had no idea what time it was, or how long he'd been sitting there reading. It was only when he heard the doors of the library creek open did he look up from the pages in front of him. Standing up in his seat slightly, he leaned forward and peeked around the corner of the bookshelf in front of him. Immediately he spotted Josh, there was no mistaking that tall, dark, and handsome.
Butterflies filled the pit of his stomach as he sat himself back down and tried his best to turn his attention back to the book. Py knew it was only a matter of time before Josh made his way over to this table, this was where they'd always sat to study sense he could remember. Even back in high school days. And if by some chance the table had been taken by other students, Josh would always convince them to move. The many memories of Josh kicking underclassmen out of their table came to mind, they made Py laugh out loud and left a broad grin on his face. He couldn't imagine how scared those kids must of been of the fire elemental when he'd come raging at them for sitting at his table, even if it had all been show and he wouldn't have really hurt them. Most of the time anyway.
He heard the shuffling of books behind him, it took every thing he had to fight the urge to turn around and see who'd made the noise. But he knew who it was, and he found out the hard way a few seconds later. The sound of the dull thump rang in his ears as he felt the light smack of the book against the back of his head. One of his slender hands reached up to hold the back of his head as he burst out laughing. "Shit.. Ow!! Were the only two words he managed to get out in his fit of laughter. It was exactly the kind of reaction he'd expected from Josh. Pyson might have even felt a little bad if his friend had just casually walked up and greeted him with a "Sup bro? Or something to that effect. It was classic Josh to be over dramatic and Py loved it.
He finally stopped laughing and caught his breath as his friend scolded him for not informing him that he'd returned sooner. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, it was Py's fault this time. He'd come home and fell right into his school routine and hadn't had much time to think about anything else really. "Nice to see you too Josh." Py chuckled one last time, still rubbing the back of his head as Josh helped himself to the gummy bears. Of course he hadn't even needed to ask, Py had bought them as a sort of peace offering for being a douche and not coming to visit Josh sooner. His smile grew (if that was possible) when Josh asked about how his trip was. It never failed, as soon as he'd get back Josh would always ask about the trip before even bringing anything else up. It kinda felt good to have someone care about what was going on in his life.
He stuck his hand inside the gummy bear bag and pulled a few out, popping a red one into his mouth as he closed the book in front of him. He let out a small sigh. "Ah it was alright I suppose, played every weekend for a couple months, some whacked out symphony that a no-name composer had written from some dream he'd had. It was fun to play but it was so weird at the same time. Same stuff." He paused and brought his hand to his chin, as if trying to think of something else he'd forgotten. "Oh, I was flown to Paris for fashion week too, played a reception for the designers.." He paused again, a trollish grin worthy of Josh crossed his face. "There were girls.. Everywhere" He popped a few more gummy bears into his mouth and chuckled lightly. It really had been something else to see that many models in one place. "But what about you? Anything new and interesting on this side of the world while I was gone?."

It had always felt good to have people who understood him in the world. In his high school days and part of the way through college, he hadn't hung around other people much. He'd preferred his solitude and to be alone. He'd hung out with Pyson in the library, he'd occasionally sat with the other Fires at lunch, he'd met Devin after school, but he had spent a lot of his days alone by choice more than anything. It made sense, then, that not many people could predict him. Pyson had been a long-time friend, though, and they were certainly closer now than they'd been back when their only interactions had been study sessions. The Wind might not have known about Joshua's past or any of the shit he'd gone through in recent years but that did not matter. What mattered was that he had stuck around.
A spark lit his gaze, then, when Pyson burst into laughter instead of freaking out on him for the 'attack'. They both understood that it had not been made with malicious intent and Josh was smirking as Pyson dissolved into chuckles. He plopped himself down at the table rather unceremoniously. Winked. "Love you too, bro." Gummy bears were good and he went quiet for a moment as he chewed. Talking with one's mouth full was disgusting. He might not have been psychic enough to understand that they were a peace offering but he did know that he was allowed to have some. Joshua might have seemed quite rude to anyone that did not get his usual behaviour but a close friend like Pyson could be counted on to understand that he'd never have took something without asking if he was uncertain.
He liked hearing about Pyson's tales of travel. If someone was as close to him as his fellow graduate he made a point to take an interest in their life. That's what friends were for. "Just all right?" He raised his brows, wondering. Then again, not every trip could be fantastic. Such was life. His friend was lucky that he'd made it as far as he had at such a young age. Joshua sometimes wished that becoming a doctor could happen that quickly but he knew that he had much to learn before he was ready to take the lives of others into his hands. Music was different. "I don't dream much," he mused, "but I have to wonder how you can come up with a symphony from a dream." He'd never understand artists, really. They were so abstract in comparison to his strictly logical ways of thinking. "Least it was fun, though. Better that than to be forced into playing something awful." If you hated a piece it would suck to perform it night after night and have to pretend that your heart was in it. That was how he saw things, at any rate.
Oh, fashion. Never something he'd understood much, not the flashier sides of it. He shopped designer but his style was simple. A mixture of casual and professional. "Sounds fun," he said. It was not the kind of thing he found fun but he knew his friend enough to assume that Pyson had enjoyed it, hence the comment. He rolled his eyes and laughed. "I'm sure you loved that." He thought about adding a wolf whistle before he remembered that they were in a library and decided against it. The librarian was pretty fond of him but that did not mean she'd appreciate his sense of humour. Not if it was loud.
Mm, gummies. He had to focus on chewing and swallowing and so shrugged at first. It was a gesture to show that he was listening. He swallowed and replied, "Not much new. I quit my job, though. I don't think I told you that." It had been a while since he'd spoken to Py face to face and he was pretty sure he'd quit when the other boy was travelling. He didn't usually talk about his life over the phone, mostly because it was predictable. Eat, sleep, study, go to class, hang out with friends and family. He didn't do much exciting. "Needed to focus on school and all that." His life revolved around his education, it seemed. He had to do well for himself. He didn't mind. "I wouldn't be opposed to hanging out, though, if you want," he said. "Could use the break." He liked to do fun things with friends. Joshua didn't consider himself incredibly exciting since he wasn't into extreme sports or anything particularly daring but he didn't think he was boring, either.
