Ethan stared out the window, tapping his pen on the desk, waiting impatiently for the professor to dismiss the class. Snow had been falling lightly all day, covering the already-snowy ground even more so. Ethan wanted nothing more than to hop outside and catch a few flakes on his tongue, maybe start a snowball fight with his friends. But instead, he sat inside listening to the droning voice of his professor. Of course, now this semester almost all of his classes were aimed toward his major, which meant he didn’t have to take the ordinary subjects that he despised so greatly. But then again, analyzing Shakespearian language wasn’t exactly always exciting. Finally, the professor dismissed the class, and Ethan was out of the room in no less than ten seconds.
He waltzed down the corridor to the mess hall, hoping to find someone he could grab lunch with. He realized it was already two o’clock, so he wasn’t surprised to find it less crowded. A few people lounged around, studying or talking with friends. He suddenly caught sight of a group of fellow Water friends sitting at a table in the corner. They waved over at him and he greeted back. He turned to grab some food, deciding on a salad and Vitamin Water, paid, and proceeded to the table. He dropped his tray down and slid his backpack off his shoulders onto the floor. “Man, I’m beat. Long day,
” Ethan announced, digging into his food. His friend scoffed at him. “ Yeah, sure, I bet singing and dancing all day is so difficult. Meanwhile, I’ve got a fifteen page paper due tomorrow I haven’t touched yet,” his friend next to him complained with a smirk. Ethan knew it was good-natured, his friend was a biomedical engineering major so he allowed him to tease every now and then. “ Hey, don’t get mad at me just because you’re jealous, Mr. Smartypants.” He laughed as he went to lift his drink to his mouth, but instead his friend accidentally hit the bottom of it and splashed it over Ethan. “ Hey!” he exclaimed, standing up as the liquid dripped down onto the floor. The bottom of his shirt was soaked in the water. Meanwhile, his friend’s expression was a mixture of guilt and amusement. “ Ah, you’re going to pay for that,” he promised, grinning. He moved his hand and mimicked a stream of water to flow out of an opened water bottle and to splash onto his friend. He stood up and gasped, while Ethan stood there laughing. The rest of the group was laughing as well, and it crossed Ethan’s mind that they were being raucous but brushed the thought away since so few people were in the mess hall. There were bad days and then there were really bad days. On a scale of one to absolutely horrible, this was tipping the latter end of the scale. She did not care a lot about the things in her life, especially not the material things, but her sketch book was something she could not live without. As an aspiring fashion designer she relied on the drawings that she had in that book. If she didn't have her concepts she would be absolutely terrible at designing things. Winging it had never been her forte. She was not good at coming up with things on the fly unless they were sketches and it was those sketches that were now in a sopping puddle on the floor. She glared the culprit down with electricity flashing in her blue eyes. "Want to tell me what the fuck that was for?" She knew she was a bitch, didn't deny it, and Rowena should have seen it coming that she would end up on the bad side of some pretty spiteful foes. At the same time, she did not care. She was frustrated and this guy was an asshole in her eyes no matter what she'd done to deserve it. Oh, if there weren't a professor walking down the hall right at that moment she'd have fried him for sure! Instead he offered her a cheeky grin and started off toward the professor, using the faculty member as a cover.
Rowena was able to find a Fire elemental that could dry off the book but by the time they could lend a hand, the damage had already been done. The inks and leads had run over the pages, which were dry and crinkled, and most of her designs were no longer distinguishable from the drawings of a five year old. She was already pretty ticked off as she entered the mess hall, barely paying any mind to how incredibly empty it was. She wanted something to drink and she was going to have it, and then she was going to have to sit down with her book in an attempt to copy down what designs she could somewhat make out onto a fresh notebook. She was not enough like a Fire to get steaming mad over something to the point where she'd flip out on just about anyone but this was something that made sense to be upset over. She was angry enough that the slightest irritation bothered her, and the loud and rambunctious Waters a few tables away were definitely an irritation of sorts.
Instead of doing the responsible thing and moving away (there were plenty of quieter areas to which she could have relocated) the Thunder elemental abandoned her sketchbooks and strode over to them. Her heels clicked against the stone floor and she really should have learned not to wear heels after the last time they'd messed her up in a fight but she didn't learn lessons like that. "Would you mind keeping your mouths shut?" Her tone was snide rather than polite. She could have been nice and asked them to tone down the noise level but they were Waters (she recognised a few as such, anyway) and that meant all niceties were automatically called off. She was Thunder leader, she liked to mess with the enemy elements. She was also cocky because her power bested theirs even though they were all older. One of them alone could probably take her down if they played their cards right. "Not that you sea slugs care about how stupid you're acting." Her superiority complex was evident as she rolled her eyes and kept her hand on her hip. Talking tough, feeling tough... ah, she had everything except the shit to back it up.

Ethan could be oblivious to things, and now was no exception. He hadn’t realized the mess his group had been making, half of it being by accident anyways. He tended to ignore any sort of consequence or result from his actions when he was enjoying himself. And his mood had improved a great deal from the one he was in a half hour ago, so he cared even less. He knew they’d clean up after themselves eventually and would have apologized to the girl if she hadn’t given him so much attitude. Ethan had the capability of humbling himself and could apologize when rightly so. But if someone talked back to him or rubbed him in the wrong way he didn’t let it go. Being one for the dramatics, Ethan was known for dragging things out and not letting them drop just to make matters easier. He turned to face the girl and narrowed his eyes. “Yes, because we are just plotting to ruin your things,
” he snapped, sneering at her. If he knew they were her sketches he would’ve felt terrible, knowing how upset he’d have been if pages of a song he was writing got wet. But he didn’t know that and the girl was being rude so he didn’t care how he acted. He watched as she walked away, his group of friends all giving each other the what-was-with-that look, and then immediately laughed right after. “ Ugh, my shirt is going to be all sticky now,” Ethan complained, holding the sopped fabric off of his stomach. He tried bending some of it out of the fabric but the fact that it wasn’t completely water made it a fruitless effort. “ Well, this will clean it off,” his friend said, dropping more liquid on his shirt, but at least water this time. “ Alright, seriously quit it,” Ethan demanded, but still with a grin on his face. He noticed the girl had come back again, but gave her no regard until he heard her speak. Ethan whipped his head around at the tone of her voice. He cracked a sarcastic smile. “ Well! Who died and put you in charge?” Out of his group, he knew he was the one who would say something. Being so outspoken sometimes helped him out, but often got him into trouble. “ If you want quiet go to the library, hun. This is the mess hall last time I checked.” His voice took on a bitterly sarcastic tone as he glared the girl down, annoyed by her objections. And his anger mounted even more so when she insulted them. “ Oh, good job on that one. I’m so hurt. And what’re you—oh let me guess, a fire demon?” His smirk grew wider as did his cocked brow. He didn’t know what the girl was, or who she was for that matter, but felt these words were leading them somewhere Ethan didn’t want to go…but wouldn’t back down from. She was mad enough to spit about the sketches but she hadn't realised that it had been accidental, nor had she realised that the Waters in the mess hall included the same one she'd been butting heads with earlier. Even if it had been an accident and she had realised that fact, Ro was the sort of person that would not be willing to forgive and forget. She was spiteful and often more than a little bit snide and unforgiving. Thunders had vengeance in their nature, they were vindictive and tended to hold long grudges no matter whether the grudge made sense or not. It was not until Ethan spoke to her that she actually realised who he was and her anger increased tenfold. "Who the fuck cares?" Alright, so on a scale of one to stupid that was probably one of the lamest comebacks that she'd ever used. She'd never had a particularly good way with words and often made a fool of herself if she tried to talk tough. She didn't acknowledge this and never realised how idiotic and childish she could make herself sound. "I could hear you from all the way across the fucking hall." That was a flat-out falsehood, she'd only been a few tables away. The other side of the hall was ages away because the mess hall was massive. Exaggerations were her forte, clearly.
She did not do well with people using sarcasm and sass against her when she was angry, or any other time really. Rowena didn't like when she was treated like her upset was insignificant. It was ironic and hypocritical seeing as she treated others like they were inferior ninety-nine percent of the time. She brought most things upon herself with her attitude but she'd never acknowledge that by taking the consequences. Instead she fought back, lashed out. "Hun, really? Are you five?" She used such terms herself when she was being condescending and so to criticize Ethan was incredibly stupid but hey, she lived and breathed stupidity. "I know it's the mess hall, idiot," she snapped. "Is that why you and your loser friends think it's okay to mess with my things?" Ugh, she hated Water elementals. If her sister Syria had still been alive she might have had a bit more of a tolerance but Syr had overdosed shortly after the triplets came to the Academy and so she hadn't really had the time to gain a respect for Syria's element before her sister passed. She didn't see this as a bad thing because as far as she was concerned they were all a bunch of irritating dickheads who deserved to drown in the lakewater they could control.
She scoffed. Fire demon, really? She'd have to tell Altair that one at some point, figured her twin would get a kick out of it. Sea slug might not have been the most impressive insult or anything but she was speaking out of anger and irritation, mostly. Instead of answering verbally at first, she randomly lashed out with a current of electricity and sent it toward his arm. See how he liked that! He wanted to mess with her shit and then be all loud and annoying, well, she'd teach him who was elementally superior! "Thunder leader," she replied, not realising in her boast that she was admitting herself to be a few years younger than him. It was a bad move on her part, especially when he was surrounded by friends, but she wasn't the brightest bulb in the box and she put instinct first before anything else. "Why don't you shut that obnoxious mouth of yours and back your shit up?" She talked awfully tough for how frail she was of stature. She was model-tall and model-thin but she was also very physically weak. Her powers were the only things she had going for her in the 'tough' department and, well...
[haha I loved how you rolled with the opening and said it was Ethan xD gives me stuff to work off <33]

Despite Ethan’s generally friendly nature, he still managed to get himself into confrontations whether verbal or physical. He had an issue with letting things drop and wouldn’t stop until he got the last word in. He knew he should have just let the girl talk and be done with it but Ethan couldn’t let things like that slide. He also didn’t think anything would come of it, especially since they were in the school and he had a few friends there as well. Then again, he was known to misjudge similar matters before. “Gosh, I am just so sorry, next time you’re here we’ll be sure not to make a sound, just for you,
” he shot back, an obvious pretend look of sympathy on his face. He folded his arms, realizing he had turned his body completely to face the girl. The girl rubbed Ethan terribly and he started to wonder whether the matter would be dropped or carried out. He quickly wondered who the girl was, figuring he’d never seen her around or had come into contact with him. He had no idea what element she was or how old. But he wasn’t going anywhere, whatever those answers were. He scoffed at her criticism of his choice of word, ostentatiously rolling his eyes. “ Right, it’s the mess hall. Not somewhere I’d bring something important. But maybe that’s just me.” Sure he and his friends could’ve toned it down, but after the way the girl was responding, he didn’t care how they acted. People who talked to him like that he would go out of his way to get his two cents in, which was why he didn’t just let the matter go. He glanced back at his friends, all three giving him unsure looks as if they wished he would shut his mouth. Too late. The stream of electricity that struck him in the arm took Ethan totally off guard and caused him to stagger back, and let out a slight whimper of pain. So, he was wrong, and she was a Thunder. A ball of dread formed in his stomach. Water plus electricity didn’t look too good for him. Fire, he’d stand somewhat of a chance. But Thunder, forget it. He stepped back, but didn’t break the sneer he had throwing her way. He saw one of his friends instinctively rise at the attack, but he waved a hand at him. Of course he’d want help now that he knew she was a Thunder, but wouldn’t admit to it. Besides that wouldn’t be a fair fight. “ I’ve got this.” He ground his feet and clenched his fists, but a sly grin spread across his face at her words. “ Thunder leader? As in twelfth grade?” A slight chuckle emitted from his lips. “ Well then this ought to be fun.” His smile grew at her words. “ Oh, don’t worry, I intend to,” he responded. With both hands, he drew them from his side out in front, combining water from the bottles on the table and some from thin air and sent the stream sailing toward her, intent to hit her square in the chest. He decided to keep it strictly elemental—he couldn’t hit a girl, right? But he knew he’d have to pace himself when it came to creating water or else he’d run out of energy fast. [lol, giving the fight a little more fuel :3] [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Rowena really did not like this guy. She probably should have found out who he was and what he was capable of before trying to start a fight with him but that would require intelligence and forethought that she did not have. She also should have tried to isolate him from his friends so that they could not gang up on her but that was something else that she'd not really thought of. "Why don't you just shut up and sit back down now instead of later?" It was not a very reasonable request when one considered that she had been the one to start this whole problem but oh well. "I was minding my own bloody business when you decided that you thought it'd be funny to mess with my sketches and so yeah, I think you should keep it down just for me or I might do something about it." Might? Yeah, that sure made her sound tough. Still, she didn't back down, and that was one thing that Rowena that could potentially be impressive. She was tenacious and bold, didn't back down from a fight. She'd usually challenge someone even if it seemed like they were stronger than her simply because she didn't like to seem weak. She was weak and it wasn't hard to tell by her absolute lack of muscle but she hated displaying it. Hated admitting it. She wasn't an incredibly proud person but no one liked to appear weak.
True, she probably shouldn't have brought her precious book of sketch books to a place where people often got into food fights or joked around with their powers. She wasn't about to admit that to him, though, so she said, "Yeah, well..." She could not think of a very good comeback and trailed off looking mildly frustrated with herself. She did not have a good way with words and it annoyed Rowena when other people could come up with way better insults than herself. It was like being in third grade again and having people call her names, Ro only being able to come back with 'meanie' or 'stupid'. Kids would be kids. She'd always had her sisters in childhood though and so it hadn't bothered her when they'd occasionally been teased. Every kid went through that at some point. "Well I did bring something important and you fucked it up, so..." That was honestly the best thing she could come up with. That was good enough, right? Well, good enough or not it was going to have to suffice because she couldn't find something better. He'd fucked with her sketches and she was not going to let that go no matter how smart or mature it would be to do so.
She smirked when Ethan staggered, laughed under her breath as he whimpered in pain. She liked to make people suffer when they did something to upset her. It was sadistic, it was wrong, but she could not bring herself to care how wrong it was. She liked it when her enemies realised who they were messing with. It was the reason that she proudly stated that she was the Thunder leader, expecting that this would scare him even more. Apparently not. Her cocky expression faltered for a brief moment when she saw him grin. "The fuck's your problem?" She really needed swearwords other than 'fuck' in her vocabulary, didn't she? "Yeah, what of it?" Even when he mentioned her grade Rowena didn't realise what this might mean for her and their fight. He seemed to be cocky himself and she didn't like that, had liked when he was staggering back in pain from the elemental injury she'd dealt him. What the hell? He didn't explain, merely warded off his friends and said that it was going to be 'fun'. "Yeah, for me you mean," she said, still in the vein of talking tough.
Rowena was not expecting the jet of water that slammed her full-force in the chest and she was knocked back into another table, stabilizing herself against it but probably bruising herself up a little in the process. The attack had winded her and she narrowed her eyes at Ethan. Asshole. Not saying anything aloud, she regained her balance and took a few purposeful steps forward before sweeping her hand a few times and sending three almost boomerang-shaped waves of electricity back at him, hoping that at least one of them would hit. She was not playing by strategy to conserve her strength like some would but instead trying to go full-out offensive.

\ Sitting in his class a half hour ago, Ethan wasn’t exactly expecting to get himself into this situation. These things couldn’t exactly be foreseen… But it seemed like Ethan often wound up in these types of confrontations more than he would have liked. Not that he really liked getting into them at all but still, he never knew when to be quiet and he had given up on trying to fix that trait. “Well, tough shit, that’s not happening any time soon. And what will you do about it?
” he taunted, eyebrow raised. There was almost no doubt in his mind know of the inevitable fight but the girl was getting on Ethan’s last nerve. If she backed down he would’ve just let it go but she seemed as steadfast as him in the whole thing. Ethan could understand the girl’s initial anger. If something important of his got ruined because of someone else he’d be mad as well. But that was where the understanding ended because he hated the girl’s attitude. Ethan could be a total somewhat of a drama queen at times and had his fair share of attitude which made him get even more irked when it came from someone else. And he knew none of his friends would stand up and say anything so he usually bit the bullet with these things. For better or for worse. “ And I am just so dearly sorry,” he said with sarcasm, his sneer toward her never breaking. He quickly wondered if there were any teachers, but didn’t dare look because he didn’t want to take his eyes off the girl. He hoped there weren’t; now he found himself itching to do something about this whole thing. He didn’t want her to think she could talk like that to him and just skip away without any consequence. And that thinking was usually the reason, besides his mouth, that he got into situations like this—he hated looking weak or like he couldn’t do something. Which, usually he didn’t have the physical strength but he at least tried to stand up for himself. The initial shock of electricity had terrified him, not because of the pain, but because of her element. He knew he stood no chance against a Thunder and the girl looked around his age, too. Ethan’s lack of care in school caused him to slip behind elementally. It probably would’ve been wise to work on it, seeing as he lacked physical strength, but he was too lazy. And that especially wouldn't help him in a fight with a Thunder. But all that changed when he discovered how much younger she was than him. “ Oh, excuse me, let me clarify myself,” he said, standing up straighter, the pain in his arm subduing. “ I’ve got two years on you. So, no, this isn’t going to be that fun for you.” He grinned maliciously, glad to finally have the upper hand for once. Now of course, if the girl was talented, then he’d still be in trouble, but his cockiness didn’t waver. Ethan’s glare only intensified when his attack had been successful. He planted his feet more firmly, his fists clenching so tight his knuckles turned white. “ You all right over there?” he said bitterly, practically snarling. This time he was slightly more prepared for her attack, now knowing she was a Thunder and what kind of attacks to expect. He dodged two of the waves of electricity speeding at him but got caught by the third in his stomach, stepping backward and clutching his gut briefly. He pulled up a large wave of water and sent several small, speeding jets of water at her, intending for at least one to hit. “ Ready to give up yet?” he goaded. Sure he had an advantage in age but he knew he shouldn’t get too cocky, not yet at least. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Ugh, he had called her out on the question! Rowena hated it when she didn't have a strong answer for something because it usually meant getting laughed at by whoever she happened to be arguing with. She liked to come across as smart and tough but that was very hard to do when you couldn't talk shit properly or back it up. It was probably her intense loyalty to the alliances that had caused the Thunders to elect her as leader, or perhaps her by-blood connection to Altair. The Thunder and Fire (female) leaders were related by blood and so they were more than capable of keeping their alliance strong. As long as the guys agreed, of course, but it wasn't like the alliances were often contested. This was the natural order of things. "I'll just... I'll do something, alright? Don't fucking underestimate me!" She looked frustrated and she wished she could come up with something better than that. Altair had a much better way with words than she did when it came to insulting people. She didn't envy a lot of people because Ro hated feeling jealousy and tried not to acknowledge it but she envied her sister. "Shut up," she snapped under her breath when he said that he was 'sorry', knowing that he didn't mean it. She really should have learned by now that he wasn't going to go quiet just because she wanted him to but the girl was frustrated and was simply saying anything that came to mind.
Two years? She hesitated for a moment and the uncertainty showed. Only two years wasn't a lot, right? She still had this in the bag. She didn't, of course, but Rowena was the type of girl who would try and boost her own internal confidence to try and make herself shine in a situation. "Two years is nothing when you're a Water brat," she shot back, sounding and feeling on top of her game again. Intimidation was a useful tactic but with both of them being so cocky it probably wasn't going to work on either end. She was determined to fight until she was on her last legs and forced to give up and what she didn't realise was that Ethan was the same way. She should have taken into account that one of his friends would probably step up and take his place even if she did manage to take him out so the bragging rights would not last long. "I'll kick your ass, Water, and then we'll see who has the last laugh." It was going to be her, it had to be her. She thought about how she could tell Altair about her victory over him, gloat about how she'd beat out a college sophomore. This is why the Waters don't mess with our kind. Electric shocks were pretty damn painful.
Being taunted was one of the more annoying things she'd ever felt and she narrowed her blue eyes at him. "I'm doing fine, prick," she spat under her breath. No thanks to you, she thought, feeling the pain from where she'd been knocked into the table, but she didn't say this aloud. She hated admitting her weak points in a fight because then people took advantage of them and she was even worse off. She wasn't sure which of the water attacks she should dodge and ended up getting hit by the greater majority of them thanks to her hesitation. It hurt and there were red spots where they hit, because water wasn't as forgiving when it was shot at you by an elemental. She could already feel her stamina starting to drain because her own attacks were consuming so much energy but she ignored that drain. She shouldn't have, of course, because it determined how much longer she was going to last against Ethan, but she did. She created a large ball of electric current and sent it toward him, straight at him, feeling the energy sapped from her. Since it was visible it would be easy to dodge if he was prepared for it.

No matter what Ethan was feeling, he always tried to hide it. And usually he did so with his mouth. He could talk a lot of game but couldn’t back it up most of the time. The only time you could get Ethan to shut his mouth is if you knocked him out cold, which happened more than he liked to admit. He’d still try and talk big game even if it was clear he had no place saying such things. So, he rolled his eyes and gave Rowena a sly smirk at her response. “Gee, I’m so scared,
” he said crossing his arms, his tone obviously sarcastic. Even though he didn’t want to encourage a fight, he knew his words certainly weren’t trying to prevent one. He just didn’t like the thought of her just walking away with the last word. Her measly ‘shut up’ wasn’t going to scare Ethan off, but he didn’t say anything back, feeling like he didn’t need to. He just kept the smug grin plastered on his face, hoping his cockiness would unnerve her. Now, when it came to alliances, Ethan tended to not get too involved. But when it boiled down to it, he liked to stick with his alliances. Fires and Thunders had given him enough problems over the years that he simply just didn’t like them. And it especially bothered him when he was taunted for his element. “ Yeah—no, I think you’re going to be eating your words in a little bit,” he sneered. If the girl was especially talented for her age, then Ethan would be in trouble. He’d never faced a Thunder on his own and really wasn’t all that confident in his skills. But he wouldn’t let that show. “ Mhm, yeah, we’ll see how that goes,” Ethan snapped back. Sarcasm was always his go-to. So he felt a little intimidated. Yes he was older but he didn’t have too much to show for it. He’d gotten better since starting college; it was the first time he had actually started trying in school because he liked his classes. But he still didn’t put a whole lot of effort into improving his skills with his element. He tried to ignore the little shadow of doubt in his mind and aimed all his focus on the fight. A small surge of satisfaction filled him when his attack succeeded but didn’t let it show. He didn’t want to lose his focus. So when he saw the huge ball of electricity darting toward him, he leapt out of the way, dodging it by a few centimeters. He couldn’t help the smirk that crawled onto his face. “ I’ll give that an A for effort, but…” So he was kind of being a dick. What of it? He didn’t like the girl and that was that. He pulled up a stream of water and whizzed it toward her, aiming at her knees to knock her off her feet. He hoped it’d work but then again he wasn’t sure if she would see it coming in time. His confidence was starting to grate on her nerves, worry her slightly. She was cocky but the fact that he was equally as sure of himself, or so it seemed, was starting to have an effect. What would happen if she lost? I'm not going to lose, she thought fiercely. Where there's a will there's a way, right? Rowena had a lot of will for one so weak but unfortunately that age-old saying was not always accurate. "The only one who's going to be eating anything is you," she shot back, and why couldn't she come up with something more impressive than that? It could even be taken as vaguely inappropriate if one's mind spent enough time with all the leaves and mulch in the gutter. Hers did, usually, but she was too focused on the prospect of a fight to pay it any attention at the moment. Why did these Water brats have to be so annoying? Really, it was no wonder that her element and its allies in Fire were so opposed to getting along with them. All they did was play their stupid games with people and laugh obnoxiously about them afterwards. What was cool about that?
Rowena's lip twitched slightly in displeasure when she saw that her attack missed. She was not the best in terms of accuracy or stamina because she was a bit of a slacker in school and so missing an attack or underestimating how much it would weaken her was not uncommon. She struggled in her elemental classes when she was pitted against someone who did try hard and who did have more stamina than she had and she'd nearly failed last year because of it. She'd really needed to pull her act together near the end of the school year in order to sort out her priorities and pass the exams. Now she was realising another downside to not doing as well in school as she could have. The Thunders had not chosen her as leader because of her impressive elemental prowess. No, they'd chosen her because she was fiercely and unwaveringly loyal to the alliance and because Altair was Fire leader. Siblings in alliance leadership positions were rare but coveted because it meant the bond between the elements was stronger than ever for however long they held their positions. As long as there wasn't a fight.
Ethan's next attack was not anticipated enough for Rowena to manage a successful dodge. Instead, she saw the stream of water and tried foolishly to jump over it, which ended in her landing prematurely and getting hit regardless, knocked off her feet just as Ethan had planned. Soaked and angry, she scrambled back to her feet and glowered at him. "Is that the best you've got?" She was trying to talk tough and act like it hadn't bothered her, like it hadn't drained her strength at all. She could feel the drain already but she shoved the nagging feeling away, ignored it even though she shouldn't. There was no way this Water idiot was going to get the better of her. Rowena braced one hand against a table to keep herself from being knocked over quite so easily a second time and readied another electrical assault. This time she took a step toward him to give herself momentum as she shot a wave of energy toward his chest. It was broader and with more range than the ball, though with decreased impact and power as a result. At least it would be harder to dodge this time around, though still possible if Ethan was careful.

Ethan usually didn’t act so cocky and arrogant in regular situations. He never bragged or boasted about something he did and didn’t need to prove himself to anyone. However, when it came to something like a confrontation, Ethan talked more game than he knew he should. Usually, he didn’t have the skill to back it up but this fight was proving to be different for once. All right, it was mainly due to the age advantage and, although Ethan didn’t know it, Rowena’s lower skill level. But still. He liked this change of pace. With an air of indifference, Ethan scoffed, “Bravo, that was a good one, I almost believed you for a second.
” In normal circumstances, he would never act like this. If someone talked like this to them he’d fight the person as well. But Ethan usually relied on his words anyways to make up for his lack of strength. He actually was a bit dumbfounded by the fact that he’d managed to dodge her attack but didn’t let it show. As the ball of electricity swept by him he still felt the crackle of electric waves in it sending all the hair on his arm up. Ethan was beginning to realize that the Thunder was similar to him in the way that they were both resilient and not willing to give up so easily. Which could prove to be a problem. One would think getting into fights more than he’d like to admit would kick Ethan’s butt in gear in strengthening his elemental skills. Instead, Ethan ignored it for the most part. Now that he was in college he did try a little harder with it, but still preferred to focus on things he’d rather be doing like playing music. The way he looked at it, learning how to make ice wasn’t going to get him on Broadway. But it’d still be pretty cool… Ethan snickered maliciously when his attack succeeded, but found himself a little defeated as Rowena kept getting back up. He had all this confidence, but there was still no guarantee he would come out on top. After all, water wasn’t the greatest when it came to the offensive and it was a Thunder he was fighting, not a Fire. Continuing with his cocky routine, he smirked at her. “ I guess not, I could do better, you’d like to see?” He figured the girl had to be more tired than him by now. Her attacks had had more oomph in them than his. And she continued that method in her next attack which Ethan was not ready for. He caught it right in the chest, grunting as it knocked him backwards, causing him to stagger. He cursed under his breath. There was no way his attacks hurt quite like getting whacked by a ball of electricity. Now he was angry. This time he didn’t make any cocky remark but instead narrowed his eyes pure fire in them. He brought his arms back again and generated another wave of water and sent it rushing at the Thunder, putting more force and fervor behind it than his other attacks. Now he was tired of her. If she were a cat she'd have hissed at him, hackles raised and claws extended. Instead Rowena merely glared, a perfect example of 'if looks could kill'. She'd really like to have that kind of power, to simply cause her enemies to drop dead with a simple glance. It would save this stupid idiot from running his mouth at her all. "Get off your high horse," she snorted. What a hypocrite she was! Rowena did not see it as such. In her opinion, she was amazing. She overcompensated for the confidence that she had lost in her drug use and depression by talking herself up and boasting about how good she was, how skilled she was. It provoked fights in many occasions like these but if it stopped her from relapsing due to low self-worth, well, it was worth it to Ro. "Maybe if you stopped talking your head wouldn't be so big." Ignoring the fact that her insults did not make all that much sense, Rowena kept her cold blue gaze on him for a moment and then attacked.
There was some satisfaction when her next attack hit, for she'd almost been worried that Ethan would be able to dodge again. Rowena herself was not very good at dodging attacks in a fight and so it always bothered her when others could do so with a sort of grace about them. She hated the bitter feelings of jealousy and desire because it reminded her that she was not all that she wanted to be. She had grown in confidence, to the point of overconfidence in fact, but there were days when it came to her attention that it was falsified, a mask for her own benefit. She did not feel like that now, though, because her attack had landed.
One came in the form of a violent wave, the likes of which she was not exactly prepared for. Rowena often took to underestimating her opponents and the fact that Ethan was a Water elemental made this all the more prominent. He was weak to her and in her eyes that meant that she would surely emerge from this fight the victor. She tried to dodge by clumsily scrambling onto one of the tables in order to block the wave and ended up being hit by the wave and rammed into the table instead. She gasped with the pain and inhaled some of the water, choking and sputtering on it with her face red. It was a mixture of force along with an embarrassment about being caught in such a shameful manner. She straightened up with as much dignity as she could manage, her eyes blazing with anger as she clenched her fists tight. "Prick!" she accused, trembling from a mixture of anger and the cold from the water. This fight was not going her way at all and she was beginning to resent that.
Panting, shivering, soaking wet, Rowena found herself unable to muster the energy for another attack just yet. Looked like Ethan had the perfect window of opportunity if he was willing to take it.
