Marcus had barely gotten comfortable in bed after a trip to the bathroom when his alarm went off loudly. It was only Thursday and still, the week felt as though it was never going to end. A groan rose loudly from his roommate who rolled over and glared across the room at Marcus. "I freaking hate your alarm..." he said, the irritation clearly spread across his face. Marcus smirked but inside, he felt the same way. Slamming his hand down on top of it, the alarm quickly shut up and his sighed, getting comfortable yet again. Mornings had never been his friends. Since he was younger, he had always been one to stay up late and get up late as well. He loved the night time and enjoyed watching a movie until at least midnight, but when it came to getting up later, that was when he began to hate life in general. Pulling his off his body slowly, he climbed out of bed groggily and yawned, letting his eyes adjust to the light as he stumbled to the bathroom yet again, stripping down, he turned on the hot water in the shower and climbed in slowly, sighing at the feel of warmth on his skin. "Can't you ever shut the door while you are showering?" his roommate called from out in the room and Marcus smirked. "No, but you will get used to it. Besides, it will teach you to be comfortable with your sexuality.." he said and his roommate laughed out loud.
Finishing his shower took him only a few minutes but then came the tiring part. He picked out his clothes for the day the night before but he had already changed his mind. Sighing, he went into the closet to search through his things and find something to wear. Besides, he could tell by the look of things outside that it would be a very cold day. Tossing a few things together, he smiled to himself when he had it all ready and he pulled the clothing on. Glancing in the mirror, he felt happy with his appearance before he walked away to get his things for class. "You know, you take longer to get ready than any girl I know..." his roommate joked and Marcus rolled his eyes. "Oh, and you are any better? Besides, in the amount of time it takes me to get dressed, you barely have gotten out of bed." he said, staring at his friend who clearly was not planning on getting up anytime soon. With a light laugh, his roommate rolled over again, falling back asleep shortly after. Picking up his things. Marcus reset his alarm to wake his friend up in about ten minutes before smirking and leaving the room. He was going to get it later.
Marcus made his way to the courtyard, walking slowly with a book in hand. He read each word carefully as he feet led him to a nearby bench where he took a seat to continue reading in peace. Normally, he would remain in his room to read but today, it was nice and gray outside and he felt the need to be out and about. Sighing, he glanced up from the book, giving his eyes a break as he looked around at the others how resided here to study and such. He noticed a few academy students, most still in their high school years. He recognized a few graduates but most of them were leaving for classes. He sat for only a few minutes before standing and walking to a nearby tree. Shutting his book and lifting his fingers, he slowly began to play with the branches, causing them to twist and turn gently but paused when he noticed a boy nearby, watching him. Glancing over, the kid looked away and it only caused Marcus to raise an eyebrow. Was he watching him? Turning towards him, he noticed that the kid was studying a book of plants and it told Marcus that he was an Earth kid as well. Keeping the thought to himself, he moved to a small flower nearby and began to practice on it, causing a few more to grow next to it but he couldn't help but wonder why the student had been watching him. Sometimes Ashton missed having a roommate. It got lonely sometimes when you woke up alone in the slightly larger dormitory that the elemental leaders were given and glanced around expectantly only to notice that the sound of your own breathing was the only thing you'd been hearing. As an amiable guy, Ash had always done well with having roommates in the past and had actually waved away the idea of staying in the leader's dormitory when he had only been standing in while expecting the return of the previous leader. But Rich had never come back and after the war Ashton had accepted the fact that his position was now permanant. He liked being a leader, it just just a little stressful sometimes. Suddenly everyone expected you to know what you were doing and to to it well. He didn't know if he could deal with such a high amount of pressure two years in a row. "You don't know if you'll get the position again next year," his previous roommate pointed out as he frowned and then added a few strokes of colour to his painting. Ashton watched enviously, having always wanted some sort of artistic talent. He had nothing like that, though. "I know," Ashton agreed, "but what if--?"
He fell silent, looking slightly disconcerted when the other boy just laughed. But his former roomie possessed a kind and even sympathetic expression, so the Earth elemental relaxed after a moment. "If you spend all your time worrying about what might happen," his friend pointed out, "your hair will fall out and you'll have bigger issues to worry about." Brown eyes twinkled at him as they looked up from the paper and Ashton managed a smile. "Don't exaggerate," he scolded gently, but his tone was much more cheerful. His friend, who was in a year higher than him, jumped at the sound of the bell. "Class!" he exclaimed, then dashed out of the door without another word, leaving the still-wet canvas behind. Ashton sighed and brought the boy's canvas and possessions back to the room they used to share. He was glad to see that his friend's new roommate wasn't in--Ash didn't know the guy well and he didn't feel like explaining that rooming with the twelfth grader since he'd been but a freshman had taught him all of his weird quirks and habits such as forgetfulness and procrastination.
He found himself on the grounds, his own classes not starting until later in the day. He carried with him a book on Earth theory and manipulation of plants so that he could do a quick review before class--it wasn't education eagerness, however. He was supposed to have studied a few chapters of the book over the weekend but he had instead opted to hang out with his friends. He was regretting that now as with a groan he realised how difficult some of the theory actually was to understand. Wanting to direct his attention anywhere but at the pages, Ashton found himself surveying those around him. His gaze locked onto the branches of a tree moving unnaturally, and it didn't take long to locate the graduate that was the source of the manipulation. I wonder who he is? He'd never met him and Ashton was a friendly guy, so it was only natural to be curious about everyone. He wasn't so curious that it eliminated a self-conscious streak, however, and so he glanced away quickly when the graduate looked 'round. What'd you do that for--he probably thinks you're an idiot! he scolded himself.
The graduate had turned his attention back to what he was doing, but now Ashton felt like he owed him an apology for hanging back in an almost creepy manner. There was a chance that the graduate hadn't been bothered at all but he didn't want to invoke the judgement of an upperclassman. "Sorry about that," he said earnestly and in a rather amicable tone. "I just couldn't help but notice. Are you practising for anything in particular?" He knew that some people--like Ashton himself--mainly reserved use of their powers for classes but on the weekends when there were none. However, some people just practised for no reason but to see the Earth bend under their influence. "I'm Ashton, by the way," he introduced himself with a hesitant smile, sticking out a hand. Introductions always made things a little easier (in his opinion, anyway).

Marcus turned at the sound of the boys voice. He shook his head slowly, smiling at the apology. Normally, he would have thought it odd that someone was watching him but he could tell that the boy was only interested in what he was doing. No harm in that. Walking the could steps towards he, he took a seat next to him and smiled. "Actually, I am just doing this for fun. I have no classes today so I figured I would come down here and play around for a while. Besides, there is really nothing else to do on our campus. What are you doing?" he asked casually, hoping not to pry. "I see your reading the Earth theory and manipulation. Are you trying to read up for class or something?" There were only occasions when Marcus was this open. It was much easier for him to talk to students in the Academy then it was for him to speak with other graduates. Most of the time, he figured it was because he felt like the odd one out in his age group. He was very mature and quite, someone so few really were and knowing that kept him from really opening up at all.
His eyes glanced over the pages and took in everything he was learning. He knew it all by heart. He had learned in while in school as well and the lesson had actually been one of his favorites though he would not share that with him. Some things were better left unsaid. Besides, he may know plenty and the fact of Marcus offering help where it was unneeded, now that was something he did not want to do. He swallowed a little as the boy introduced himself. He was surprised at how open the kid was. Kind, generally seemed in a good mood, and he was out going, something Marcus lacked. Lifting his hand, it met his and in firm but gentle shake and he smiled a little. "Marcus. Marcus Peters. What grade are you in?" he asked, hoping to start conversation. After all, they were sitting here so might as well. He only hoped it was not keeping him from anything important. If so, he would understand and leave without hesitation.
Marcus noticed a few students leaving due to a class bell ringing. When Ashton didn't move, he remained in his place as well, waiting to find out just why he was here. He found it a little odd that a student was not in classes at the moment but he would not press the issue. Besides, who was he to tell someone when they could or could not go somewhere. It wasn't his place. The kid could be finished with class and taking a break, trying to study or practice. Either way, Marcus began to wonder if he could be of some help to him. The boy did seem a bit confused by what he was reading. Instead of asking, he decided it best to wait and see just what it was that Ashton had on his mind.

Ashton was relieved that Marcus didn't seem too irritated with him. It wasn't normal behaviour for the Earth elemental not to approach someone if he was curious about what they were doing. Marcus had just looked like he was concentrating hard and Ash had wanted to leave him to what he was doing. Besides, he'd been reading anyway. Or, supposed to be reading. The book on theory and manipulation wasn't really impossible for him, after all, he'd made it this far, it was just a lot more than he'd been expecting. He could have figured it out on his own if left to his devices, but he didn't know if he could have worked out all of the theories in the short time that he had before classes. "College, I take it?" He smiled. Ashton hadn't really known whether to assume that Marcus was a graduate--he'd thought maybe just an older looking senior--but as far as he was aware, the high school students of the Academy had classes for most of the day. He had left the question open-ended, however, fully allowing correction if his assumptions had been off.
He opened his mouth to answer the inquiry about what he was doing, then closed it again when Marcus started talking again, blinking slightly. He didn't mind that the older boy was continuing, it had just caught him off guard was all. Chuckling sheepishly, he nodded when the graduate amended his question to something more specific. "I'm reading up for class," he affirmed, hoping that 'trying to read up' had been used lightly. Ashton wasn't stupid, he just didn't try as hard as he needed to. He was a procrastinator and usually preferred hanging out with friends to schoolwork but that didn't mean that he couldn't do it if he tried. "The professor I've got for my morning class is ill and couldn't find a quick enough substitute, so I just figured it would be best to get ready for the one after it." He didn't need to justify himself, it was just in Ashton's friendly and genial personality to provide conversation without being prodded. He had never been anti-social and would give almost anyone a chance. Even Asha, which had worked out for the worst. He still wasn't sure what had happened to her.
"Nice to meet you, Marcus," said Ashton earnestly, adding a smile for good measure. Even if they'd met in a sort of embarrassing way that didn't mean that Ashton thought any less of their encounter. Marcus didn't seem too bothered by it and so Ashton was going to do his best to have the same mindset. "Eleventh," he answered truthfully. He always felt a little awkward around the older kids because they knew more than he did and he wondered what they must be thinking about the underclassmen around them. He pushed this thought aside, however, and the smile was maintained easily. Optimism had always been one of Ashton's strong points.

He smile and laughed a little, listening to Ashton speak about what he was doing. Marcus felt much more comfortable here, speaking to a student like him (Earth elemental and all) instead of someone else. He felt at ease and didn't feel much of a need to impress. Taking a look at the book, he could tell that the boy was in a difficult part but would him offering help be a bit out there? He didn't even know if this kid was okay and knew what he was doing. What would be the point of offering assistance if the kid was like a straight 'A' student? Keeping his mouth shut, he let the kid finish before speaking softly. "I understand. And to answer your previous question, I am in college. I just have no classed at the moment because I was able to test out of a couple so I wont need to add others until next term. Makes it easier for me though; more time to get things done, you know?" he said, sitting down slowly next to Ashton, he spoke again, this time looking to the book and then back to him again. "Well, it seems like you got everything under control here then. But if you need any help or anything, I will be over here just practicing my own stuff for a while." he said, hoping his kindness wasn't too out of the norm. Usually, that would be a normal response for a Water or Earth elemental. Maybe even more straight forward and friendly, but he didn't want to come of weird or anything. Who knew what this boy already thought of him. Standing once again, he moved back to the plants to nearby and began to practice again. His fingers barely graced the petals of a flower and it began to bloom full and bright. Marcus closes his eyes, letting the energy flow out of him and his mind work free, without the distraction of anything and anyone. He wondered if Ashton was even still there but remained silent, eyes closed, as more and more flowers began to bloom nearby from Marcus doing. [/blockquote]

Just like Marcus, Ashton was always more comfortable around his own kind. He knew right off the bat that Earth elementals, while they might not necessarily get along with him, probably weren't going to cause him too many problems. He'd never really had any serious fights or arguments with his own element before. However, Ashton was also just an amiable guy that found it rather easy to be nice to everyone. "Yeah," he agreed with a smile when Marcus explained why he wasn't in classes. He could definitely understand how it would be easier to handle the workload of a semester so long as there was less of it. I mean, he would sure love to test out of some of his classes so that he could spend more time on the others. He wasn't a big complainer, however, and so he just shouldered most of the work and powered ahead. He'd never been too concerned with getting the best marks as long as he passed his classes. He and Marcus might have been different people, but that didn't mean Ash wouldn't be friendly. "What major are you taking?" he asked curiously. Ashton still wasn't sure whether he was staying for college, let alone what major he was going for. He knew that he didn't have the drive or dedication to be a doctor or a lawyer but he knew that his parents would want him to go to college so that he could at least have something to back him in getting a job. He didn't think of it all that often.
He nodded when Marcus said that he was going to go off and do his own thing. Ashton would have been content to sit and chat for the next little while until he had classes but he understood that some people were by nature a lot more productive than he was. He was cheerful and amiable but he didn't want to delay Marcus if the older boy was trying to accomplish something with his powers. "Good luck," he grinned, then thumbed lazily through his book until he found the page he was looking for. He did a lot better if he was actually practising this stuff rather than just reading it out of a book. Was there really any point in reading it before he actually tried it? The idea of actually attempting some of the manipulation crossed his mind but Ashton quickly decided against it. No, if he tried anything he would be too drained for his lessons later in the day. I should have practised last night when I was supposed to, he acknowledged, but shrugged it off. He hadn't and there was no changing that now. He glanced up during a pause in his reading to marvel what Marcus was doing with the plant, though this time he wasn't being too creepy seeing as Marcus was aware of his presence (or so he assumed). After a moment, he returned his attention to the book.
[Does this end the thread or would Marcus approach him just to talk after? xD]
