The halls were crowding with kids wanting to go home as mikki tried not to hurt them on accident because she was carrying her skate-board, and trying to keep her back-pack (and purse) from falling off her shoulder. Every now and then, she'll on accident hit some kid with either her back-pack, purse, or skate-board. She grimanced, and quickly turned to the kid she had hit. Sorry she stated. The kid scowled at her. quickly mikki picked up her pace, and in a few minutes, she was in the library.
The library wasn't terrible crowed (unlike the hall-way), and mikki sighed in relief when she saw a computer that was open. She quickly snagged it, and pulled up the Mircosoft Word. Her English teacher was making them do a report on Greek gods (they had to pick a god, and write a three paragraph paper about them). mikki only had the third paragraph to do, and it was due tomorrow. . mikkennah bit her lower lip as she scanned her paper. The god she chose was Athena, the godness of skill and war.
the brunette sighed. She had all of the information she could gather, and she didn't think she could find any more information.mikk shook her head. This is impossible. Why did the teacher have to say three paragraphs? she asked herself. For any other person, this would have a pinch. But, for the life of her, mikki could be easily distracted. She did get her homework done, and on time, but sometimes, it made it hard for her to focus. And sometimes, all Mikennah needed was a distraction to get her mind back on track again.

To those that knew him, the fact that Joshua Dale (called "Dale" by most of the student population) was inside on a nice day such as this was not surprising. The library was his second home--any library, really. What was surprising was the fact that he was not here to study. Instead, he was trying his hand at remaining patient as he talked a transfer student through using the library catalogues on the computer. They had started halfway through the year because the scouts hadn't located them until quite late and so the jumpy freshman was rather confused by what had since become routine for her classmates. "If you want to see if the book's on the shelves, just hit this button here," he said, gesturing. "It'll tell you how many copies there are and whether or not any of them are available." The girl thanked him shyly and then nodded when he asked if she understood everything. The graduate stood and allowed her to take over at the computer, brushing off his jeans out of pure habit even though there was virtually nothing there.
Thanks to the hell that exam week was causing, the library was packed compared to its usual sparse population. He had offered to help out with some things because the poor old librarian was absolutely swamped with things to do. There was quite literally a line at her desk of anxious students looking to check out books and most of the tables were full. He wasn't doing anything too important--just shelving books and answering the occasional question to save her the trouble. She'd asked, after all. He found himself carrying a small stack of books that people had carelessly left at the computer terminals--don't these people understand the meaning of 'put it back'? He would have been a little less irate if the place was calmer. Josh had came here with the intention of studying and had just been overwhelmed. Unlike them, he hadn't done his studying last minute. But Joshua wasn't some stuffy bespectacled know-it-all. He was a bookworm of the quiet sort, lurking in unseen corners of the library to read his books and not feeling the need to answer every question in class.
As he neared one of the occupied computer terminals, he noticed a book that the previous user might have left nearby. Not wanting to be too rude in reaching over her to get it, he asked, "Excuse me, is that book yours?" The graduate was being a hell of a lot more polite than usual but that was only because he didn't want anyone to rat him out to the librarian for snarking. He was a loner, though most knew his name--with the recent war, who wouldn't? "I'm just clearing up, so if it isn't, would you mind handing it over?" If Joshua had been aware that Mikennah Smith was a Thunder elemental, well, maybe he'd be much less pleasant. They were still bitter toward most of the Fire element for bailing in the war, but Joshua? He'd downright betrayed them. Not that the feeling wasn't mutual--certainly it was. They'd tried to kill Nell. That could never be forgiven. If he'd known about her alignment he probably just would have walked right on by and pretended that the book didn't exist, retrieving it later when she left.
Unable to avoid glancing at the computer screen, his brow furrowed a little as he noticed the subject. "Not that I'm prying, but why are you writing about Athena?" Joshua of course didn't believe in mythology--it started with 'myth' for a reason--but that didn't mean it wasn't interesting. When they'd been learning about Ancient Greece in History class they'd been encouraged to also pay mind to their beliefs and how much their faith in the gods influenced their daily lifestyle. Fascinating stuff. Athena had been one of his favourites, probably because of her intelligence. He prided himself with his own. He wondered if this was a history paper or something else, but Josh decided not to ask. He was naturally curious, but prying did make him uncomfortable if he did too much of it.

flightless birdnow i’m a fat house cat. nursing my sore, blunt tongue. watching the warm poison rats crawl through the wide fence cracks. pissing on magazine photos. those fishing lures thrown in the cold and clean blood of christ mountain stream.
As mikennah let her fingers scroll across the keyboard, she had so much to do, Not everyone could be a stellar student she said to herself to make her feel better, she was behind on all subjects, mikki typed in greek goddess on google and a million sites popped up, as per usual, Wikipeida was number one, Ahh wiki always the secret haven to all things school and studying, even though many of the teacher warned her on many diffrent occaisions that the stuff on the god forsaken site were terriblly wrong and could be edited by any person, she used it anyways, Who really cared. It was mostly decent information and plus, she was way to lazy to even think about looking through other sites, As her fingers clicked away she heard a boy approach and ask if the book beside her was hers and that he was cleaning up if she could give it to him , she turned to look at a him
Mikki stifiled a laugh "No its not mine," She smiled a full toothed grin at the girl, "Of course you can have it" Mikki grabbed the book and handed it to the boy then looked back at her screen. "Im Mikennah Smith by the way" she said tying her brunette hair up at the side of her face and tucking it into a messy bun. She kind of recognized this boy, she had seen him in the halls sometimes in the past years but she believed he graduated a couple years ago possibly even the year she had entered the school. She tried to remember what element the boy was in, but couldnt seem to remember
Mikki typed again looking at the screen pulling a face and sighed " Oh athena.. you were a great worrier, if you ever did exist" she smiled at the screen her mother used to call mikki athena because of her martial arts and her endurance. Mikki looked back up at boy, he was taller than her black hair that splayed across his forehead, Mikki shook her head when she realized he was talking to her again she smiled at his question " I had to choose a greek myth so i chose her, i admire her for her strength, beauty and intelligence" Mikki laughed at how uncomfortable the boy looked "whats your name" she asked smiling
Mikki was used to being socially awkward as well for the most part of her child hood she was a loner sitting in the back of class rooms dealing with the ridicule of her classmates and just about everyone else, Boy was mikki glad she outgrew her dorky phase of life

Frowning slightly as she laughed, he couldn't help but to wonder what it was she found so funny. He did not recognise her as she did him, but at least she confirmed that the book did not belong to her and handed it back. He added it to the small but growing stack of books he had under one arm and was about to leave when he introduction made him pause. "Charmed," he said in that polite but not quite friendly tone of his, wondering why she'd bothered to introduce herself to him. He never did understand friendly folk. Nell was one of the friendliest girls in the entire damned school--but of course she was, she was an Earth elemental--and yet he still couldn't grasp the concept or the desire to make friends with everyone around you. He mostly just stayed out of their way. He'd always been a loner, even before this war made it worse. At any rate, he didn't yet return his name. What did it matter if she knew who he was? If his identity had slipped her mind Josh would actually prefer to keep it that way.
"Ah," was his reply to her words, nodding. It made sense that she was doing this for a paper, of course, because that had been his original speculation. Students normally didn't type up papers about Greek gods (and goddesses) for fun--not even Joshua would do something like that. He didn't hate schoolwork and learning as much as most, but he certainly didn't do it in his spare time. He was most certainly uncomfortable in the presence of this other girl seeing as she was very smiley and cheerful in comparison to his stoic and careful demeanour. "If you really needed information, the library does have a section on mythology," he pointed out, arching an eyebrow at the Wikipedia page. Like most of the teachers, Joshua wasn't one to trust most research found on the internet. He was a faithful lover of books and literature. Not that they were guaranteed to be accurate, but at least they couldn't be edited by a common internet troll.
She asked him for his name, causing Josh to hesitate for a moment. If she didn't know, should he tell her? Fuck it, what's the point in lying? "Dale," he replied, "Joshua Dale." He was not smiling because he wasn't in as pleasant of a mood as she and he was wary of anyone that he was not acquainted with. Narrowing his eyes as if he was suspicious of something he cautiously asked, "What element are you in?" Half the school were averse to him at the moment--Fire hated him and Thunder resented him just as much. The Water students were civil enough but he didn't get along with them anyway and it seemed to be only Earth and some of the Wind elementals that could tolerate him as a whole. He had a few friends in the darker elements but they were just that--few. His mind sprung to Asha and wondered how she was faring but he pushed the thought aside.
