Flipping a page of the textbook with decidedly more force than was needed, Joshua couldn't help but wonder how he'd ever gotten any peace and comfort inside of the Fire dormitories. He couldn't believe that he'd spent so many nights in the Earth dormitories effectively yearning for his place back amongst his former allies--not because he missed them, but because he'd always found it easier to study amongst something so familiar and warm as the dormitories. That familiarity was gone, replaced with a hostility so fierce that it was almost tangible. The tension was thick in the air, so much that he was surprised it hadn't yet become visible. How did I ever think that I would fit back in here after the war? Now, ridiculously enough, it was the Earth dormitories that Joshua found himself missing. He'd finally gotten used to the fragrant scent of their common room and the fact that every plant was so fragile and breakable. Just as he'd grown accustomed, the war had come to an end. With that, he'd left, not wanting to infringe upon their hospitality any more than he had.
He was now seriously regretting this decision.
"... the traitor doing?" He only caught the last couple of words, and he wasn't even looking in their direction, but somehow he knew that the Fire elementals nearby were talking about him. He pressed his lips together into a tight frown and flipped another page, turning this one so violently that he almost caused a tear in it. How was he meant to concentrate when all he wanted to do was slam the book shut and proceed to beat them all over the heads with it? Calm down. Deep breaths. Don't let them get to you. He took a breath so deep and sharp that it was probably heard by every individual within range, but he didn't give a damn if they heard. He just wanted to be left alone. A glance upward revealed them to be sneering at him, and Joshua snapped. "For fuck's sakes!" he burst out in exasperated anger. "If you're going to take a stab at me, just do it! There's no need to be a bunch of--cowards." The last word was spat with utmost frustration through gritted teeth. Standing up without so much as another word to them, he stalked out of the Fire dormitories and right up and out of the dungeons, not really sure where he was heading other than... away. Far away.
Far away and to the castle grounds, apparently. The sudden blast of fresh air upon heading outside somewhat startled him out of his burning rage, though it didn't do much to calm him, only to remind him that he'd been in the middle of studying and that he really should continue on with that. "Idiots," he mumbled under his breath, shaking his head. A deep intake of air served as a second and weaker stab at calming down, this one much more unsuccessful than the first. He was quick to anger and impossible to calm down. Only time could heal his intense urge to strike something. The only thing within range of his rage at the moment were a couple of statues, and the fact that they were all made of very hard stone made him think twice. He didn't want to break his hand simply because his so-called "allies" were being a bunch of egotistical pricks. When were they going to get over his "treachery"?
Probably not for a while, he thought with a frustrated huff. The Fire element was close-knit, and thus betrayal to them was one of the highest offences possible. Sitting down on one of the benches by the fountain, Joshua opened the book and tried to resume reading. It was very hard to concentrate past his rage, however, and he found himself rereading entire sentences multiple times before it really registered to him what he was reading. "Bastards..." The word was spoken softly and matter-of-factly, the Fire elemental never once lifting his eyes from the page.

The young thunder girl hadn't planned on pissing on some fire student that day. It just came so easy. I mean, really. Fire kids were so easy to anger. At times, only an angry look was enough. Well, she still hadn't expected to meet Joshie in the courtyard. Yes, she had decided upon calling him Joshie. It just seemed like a fitting nickname to someone you liked pissing off from time to time. But that was later, for now, let's recap-
...
"Nu papa, ti shto?!(Dad, what the-?)" she snapped back through her iPhone. The girl was getting a lecture about something. Well, no one really knew so she had never even tried to explain. You see, Natt had attended one formal party in her father's place. She was fully aware that he wanted her to befriend a few people. There was one in particular. Some forty year old man her father wished to be a business partner. Let alone did her father know that man was a pig and a jackass. He had whispered in Natt's ear and asked if the two of them could get a secluded place to talk. At first, she even went with it, thinking that she could handle some pervy man and get through with flirting alone. But no, he just had to let his hands loose. She wouldn't take it. While she complied with a lot of her father's request, getting 'felt up' by some disgusting man was not fine. She had ended up punching him in the face and soaking him with some drink. Of course that didn't reflect well. It was even worse when that pig claimed Natalya was the one who came on to him and when he said that it was 'wrong' she flared up and punched him. Of course her father didn't believe her. To him, Natt was more of a vegetable. Something that was supposed to get good grades, get a good reputation so that he could show her off as some trophy. While she knew that, she still didn't wish to get cut off from her heritage. As selfish as that was, she also had this feeling for her father. Ignoring the beatings she got as a child(it wasn't something unthinkable, really), the girl still recognized her biological father. Now, how the hell could she just cast that aside so easily? Exactly, she couldn't. She paid for every mistake she made in a terrible way. While that man didn't raise a hand against her anymore, she still got stebbed emotionally, if that made sense. She didn't try to befriend anyone who might've been of a lower class, she had gone out to party, sure. Quite a few times, but she always stuck low. No often dancing on the tables, no flings with bartenders, only two one night stands so far. Heck, she didn't even let anyone know she smoked and there were but a few people in the school who knew she actually knew how to party. So, yeah, she got a few enemies, not that many friends, but who cares, she was at least agreeing to any whim of her father's. So, please explain to her, why the fuck did that bastard still treat her like a rag?
Feeling frustrated, she stormed out of the school, going straight to the court yard. The girl pulled out a pack of cigarettes and pulled one out with her teeth. Pulling out a lighter from her back pocket, she lit it up, slightly bitting the filter. She could feel her jaw tense and for a moment, her sight turned misty. Putting away the lighter, she pulled out the cigarette only to release a stream of smoke before she shut her eyes, trying to get rid of that obnoxious hindrance to her sight. Oh god, she could feel something trailing down her face. Lifting her other hand to wipe away what ever it was, she concluded those were tears. What the- she didn't cry! Demetris never cried! Just like her doll-like mother. That woman never cried. She just sniffed coke and pranced around in a happy manner. Wiping under her eyes to rid her face of any mascara trails, she dismissed the thought. What if someone saw that? God, she was supposed to be strong. Only wimps ever flew out in tears. If her father had seen that, he would just dismiss her as some weak piece of shit. And great, she heard a voice. Her gaze snapped to the direction of it, a glare set in the gray eyes. She was fully prepared to yell at someone if they were staring at her. As a surprise, she found no one staring. Only a male figure with jet-black hair. Was it-... What the hell was he doing there? You'd think Dale had nothing else to do than stalk around there. Yes, she was pissed at his existence at that moment. He muttered something about bastards. Did he mean that about her? Well, she had no idea, really. Taking another drag of her smoke, she went over to him, her heels making sharp, firm taps on the rock surface as she did.
"Joshie, what brings you you here?" she asked, sarcasm outlining her every word as she coldly glanced at the back of his head. Well, she didn't like that guy. He wasn't one of the commoners yet he got to prance around playing hero all the time. Now, how the fuck was that fair?

The glare which Joshua sent in Natalya's direction was a fierce one. It clearly displayed his distaste, remembering how absolutely swell the two had gotten along in that cramped and stuffy detention room. What the hell is she doing here? He didn't mean out on the courtyard, no. There could usually be a few people found lounging around the place, talking to friends or working on homework like Joshua himself was. But why come all the way over here and bother him? "Don't call me that," the boy practically commanded. It was not a request. He wasn't asking her politely to refrain from using the nickname, he was practically threatening her with every syllable. There was a reason why the nickname infuriated Joshua so much, and that reason's name was Annabel. Only she was allowed to call him 'Joshy', it had been a pet name for him since she was a young girl, just as Josh was the only one that called her 'Belle'. It was even worse than usual now because the two siblings were fighting, however. Annabel refused to talk to him and Joshua couldn't suck up enough of his pride to apologise for ruining the image of a perfect role model. In getting arrested, he had shown his baby sister part of the delinquent that he truly was. He wasn't her big brother the hero any more. It was hard to tell who was hurt more in this situation. So he wouldn't tolerate the nickname.
"It's none of your business why I'm here, Demetri." Joshua spoke in a voice that was supposed to resemble calm, though his tone trembled with barely suppressed rage. She was dancing around the mouth of a volcano at this point, and this baby was about to blow. "Get away from me," he said with stiff finality, an ultimatum. "I am not in the mood." He was hardly ever in the mood to have someone antagonise and annoy him, but it was even worse at the current moment. He had an overwhelming urge to stand up and punch her in the face, but Joshua decided that it wouldn't be that great of an idea to land himself in detention for something so trivial. He was already in enough trouble at home for getting busted when he snuck out, he didn't need to get into more trouble at school. Usually the Academy was his hell and home was his safe haven, but now it was turning out to be the other way around. It was now a chore to go home after school and to have to bypass all of the nice things he could be doing and go straight to his room. His parents had gotten the butler in on his grounding and now he was the one to lock the doors and check on Joshua every now and then when his parents were unable. It truly sucked.
Aside from the fact that she was clearly not here to sip tea and make friends, was Natalya stupid? It wasn't like Joshua had been the friendliest of folks when they'd parted ways that last time in detention. She had made fun of his strengths and his element, and he had threatened to show her what he could really do. Remembering this, Joshua decided to use this past interaction to his advantage. "If you don't get lost, I may have to take up my earlier offer to show you why Fire beats Thunder," he said icily. "So I would leave if I were you. Now." He couldn't be more clear about his threats or his intentions. He was angry enough that, detention or no, Joshua was going to snap at her if she didn't leave him alone pretty soon. He wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone right now, except maybe Nell. She was one of the only people who was able to tolerate his anger whilst at the same time not be subjected to it. Nell was just too nice to have set off some instance of his rage except when he was totally drunk and the two hadn't even known one another. That had been... well, it was different. But they were over that now.

Oh, look at that, he actually spoke to her as if he were more powerful. Well, excuse me, but she didn't take orders from people like Dale. She'd rather die than obey someone who had no insight on her. Besides, this guy probably didn't give a shit about what a good family name was. Sure, Natt had gotten in detention, she had disregarded some teachers. The girl had bad habits and had broken the law quite a few times but she had never been caught doing any of that. Nor had she dangled herself in front of the cops. I mean, only someone stupid would do that, really. The common people didn't matter. They had more freedom than she could really dream to have. Yet look at Joshua. Our hero. Teaching the academy that friendship gets through everything, even a war. Oh, she was about to get sick. The guy had betrayed his element, his alliance for a dirt worm. Not to mention he pranced around constantly angry and the funny part was, no one detained him. Why? Was this some sort of a show where poor Dale played the main hero? She hoped to god not. Actually, she didn't get why the guy hadn't gotten ganged up on by anyone? He was asking for it, as far as she could see. You'd think that staying with the grass sniffers would teach him to be nicer. But would you look at that, there he was, glaring daggers against her own venomous glare.
"Oh, but Joshua... we're back in one alliance now, dear. And here I was, thinking we could have a heart to heart and become the best of friends." she battered her lashes her tone switching to concerned and slightly friendly for just a second, before an arrogant smirk replaced her facial expression. Why was she even bating him? To get her mind off her miserable father? Well, probably. She couldn't just go to town that night. As weak as that sounded, she actually had to write up a project for school. History, to be exact. The girl never really had problems with marks. She was usually in the top ten of the class. While she did try to find easy ways out, she did actually do things on her own. Yeah, surprising, wasn't it? Either way, back to pissing off Dale... She was beginning to think that t might just be a little too easy. After all, his next words were already trembling. Just a bit and his fists would curl up, his jaw clench. Oh, and she hoped this would be more of a fight... And then he had to go and worsen her mood. Threatening to fight her? That piece of scum... she thought to herself, her eyes narrowing dangerously. She was thought not to get into fights with the opposite gender, actually. It was seen low from any point of view. A woman going up a male was considered a brute. Oh please, he hadn't pissed her off so she wouldn't do it. She couldn't say that her father was one to respect the opposite gender... the beatings and all that. She was still disappointed he knew nothing of moral forms that came with the responsibilities of being wealthy. They couldn't be pricks and declare everyone they felt comfortable with beating up women. Even if it was the twenty first century, most of the society saw that wrong. She also couldn't imagine the line 'I beat up girls because I think we're equal' sliding with the press on any level. "As I said back there, I don't go around punching the opposite gender, Dale. I see it as something a brute would do. And you're right..." The girl didn't finish before straightening more and taking yet another drag from her cigarette. She stared down at him, telling herself it is just how it's supposed to be. Natalya continued after letting out a stream of smoke. "This is not worth my time..." And on that note, she turned away from him and began to walk away.

Joshua rolled his eyes and scowled at her masked sweet words. He could see right through them--not because he was some sort of psychic, but because this was Natalya Demetri and there was no way the animosity from back there in the detention room was going to be in any way forgotten this quickly. "Friends," he said with a sardonic chuckle. "Sure thing." It was clearly sarcastic, because even if she was being sincere this wasn't the type of person that Joshua tended to make friends with. It took a long time to gain his trust and an enemy-turned-friend was never a likely business with Joshua. Nell and Josh could somewhat be counted amongst this number, but his intoxication had done a great deal for the anger and bitterness that had been experienced when they'd first been acquainted. She'd been too pushy in trying to help him and he'd been too suspicious to realise that she really was a good person with the intent to help. Natalya was different. "You're a stuck up, superficial, conceited egotist," he said. "Even I can do better than that." He didn't mean to be arrogant, but--no, screw that. Yes, he meant to come across as arrogant and obnoxious. He was taking Natt's insults and suggestions and throwing them right back to her face now. She had insisted that she was so much better than him in every way, calling him a dog and making fun of the fact that he was a Fire elemental. She may have just been baiting him, but it had infuriated him that some snobby, rich little bitch though that she could take him on.
He only laughed when she said that only brutes went around punching the opposite gender. "If the 'opposite gender' has it coming, I see no problem with it." He didn't care whether it was a girl or a guy that antagonised him--if they made threats or if they went for him, he wasn't going to go easy on either one. Girls pulled hair and aimed cheap kicks a lot of the time, he just went all-out and threw a punch. If it was a girl and he broke her nose, so what? Who cares? If she had been the one stupid enough to start wailing on him and trying to assault him, he saw no qualms in hitting back. It was looked down upon for a guy to hit a girl, but Josh didn't care. His morales were his own, he didn't ask for anyone to dictate his actions. "Are you afraid you'll break a nail, Demetri?" He normally didn't bring gender stereotypes into a fight, but Natalya really did seem like the type that flaunted her femininity and might use it as an excuse to avoid fighting. He was just being a jerk at the moment, pulling at strings to try and keep her attention. Not because he wanted a fight, but because he knew that this would happen. She'd been so ready and willing to 'fight' him in the detention hall, but she wasn't so tough when it all came down to it.
Then Natalya decided that she was going to walk away. Just like that. Joshua was baffled by this fact--hadn't she been so confident that she would emerge the victor in a fight? Whatever. He wasn't going to outright assault her if she didn't give him any reason to, but that said nothing for minor insults. "Oh, so you can talk shit, but you can't back it up?" There was an obvious sneer in Joshua's voice as he challenged her. This girl was an outright coward. If you were going to strut around talking about how you were better than everyone else, then you should be prepared to prove it. That was Joshua's stand on this. "What happened to your water bottle, hmm? I thought you said that you could easily defeat me?" His temper was simmering down a little as he realised what a coward this girl was. She couldn't even face him when she'd bragged about being able to do so in the detention hall. "I probably wouldn't even have to lift a finger against a coward like you. All talk and no action, eh? So much for your supposed strength." She had been talking big, of course. Inflating her own ego in order to put someone else down. This probably worked all the time on a lot of people that were afraid to stand up to such an egotistical bitch. But it wasn't going to work on Joshua. "Whatever," he shrugged. "Go ahead and leave. It only proves exactly what I said."
