pretty handsome awkward , It had just been one of those mornings, the day after the war announcement left the entire academy walking on eggshells. It wasn’t a glorified process where one side was victorious without any casualties; the entire population of the elemental academy would suffer the aftermath of the hasty judgment of the fire leader and his very own thunder leader. He hadn’t known his own thunder leader that well regardless but if there was something that Derek was, it was loyal. Claiming his side with the fire/thunder treaty, he was certainly ready to make a bit more thunder and an impact then he did previously. Yawning as he walked back into the dorms, Derek was just in one of those moods. He tried going for a run, but really, the tension that he felt as his gaze met other earth/water students was extremely uneasy. At least, he hadn’t been extremely under the pressure as he was just a solider in the army. He had the job of listening to the commands of his leaders and executing them with precision. The only thing that Derek had even been remotely interested in was still bringing him joy. The junior met this gorgeous air student when she transferred and they really had hit it off and with this war, it kind of just put their friendship to a halt. She was neutral, but it was obvious that she was leaning towards helping whoever the hell Nell was. After Derek’s run he met up with the air student, they tried to talk but the sneers and remarks of the others quickly left the girl upset and walking off to her dormitory. Bringing out a more malicious Derek, his fingers began to produce electricity without him trying. ”shit.” he grumbled shaking his hand to the side. It was the only aspect of his powers that he should’ve mastered by now, his anger fueled his powers, but he still had those moments that he really needed to focus on turning them off, whereas other students had full control of turning their elemental powers on and off. A bit disgruntled and angry, Derek headed back to his dorms with a very smug agitated look on his face. Passing by a few Earth girls, ”What?” he taunted them and walked into the house and slammed the door shut. Clearly, Derek was angry and wasn’t afraid of showing it at this point he just needed to vent and knew the perfect person to unleash all his anger on. Opening the door to the thunder boys dormitory, he mumbled under his breath hoping his confidant was still in his bed sleeping. It was normal for Samson to be sleeping, but with this uneasy war in front of them all, he wasn’t sure how his friend was handling it. ”Hey faggot.” he yelled at Samson as well as signed to the sleeping boy as Derek grabbed his pillow and swung it at the boy. ”Wake your ass up, now. This is serious dude.” a small strain of concern could be heard in his voice as he bit his lip. Derek then sat on the bed next to his friend waiting for Samson to wake the fuck up, time was precious especially now and he couldn’t wait all day for this asshole to wake up. tag - samson , notes - lots of rambling, still getting a hold of him as a character c:

Samson felt pathetic for one simple fact: he could not get Harley off his mind. He felt like a complete douche for even telling her how he felt betrayed, and didn’t think that letting her do what she wanted would make up for his dickheadedness. Hopefully she understood that he was only worried about her well-being. That because he chose Earth’s side, she would be attacked by his own comrades. Why did you choose him, Harley? The boy still didn’t understand. Okay, he did understand how she could believe the Earth student was innocent because this was an Earth student, but why choose that Fire asshole over him? A gut feeling told him that the two had a closer relationship than he thought at first, and it was almost enough to kill him.
”Let her go. If she comes back, she’s yours to keep,” Beatrice had said while attempting to straighten her insane red hair, and Samson had given her a look that told her she was way off base. Which she wasn’t. And she knew that. Surrogate mother always knew best, he guessed. She was right—he couldn’t pull her back into the alliance kicking and screaming, and had at one point hoped that angsting at her would be the way to go. Why in the hell did I do those things? In any case, he’d have to protect her. If one of his comrades even touched her, there would be no holding back. And he believed he’d be all right with being called a traitor so long as she was alive.
And so curling up in his bed was him wallowing in self-pity that night. Usually he didn’t get like this. At least on the outside he had a perfect stoic mask. Except it wasn’t a mask. It was him. In any case, people couldn’t usually tell what he was thinking and that was just fine. Even when sleeping, he pretty much had the same face. And even when he was yelled at and had a pillow thrown at him, he barely shifted. Just give it a moment, he thought as he waited for himself to wake up anymore. Derek had crashed into a dreamless sleep which was somewhat better than being woken up from a restful sleep. Still, he laid motionless.
Then, his reply came in lightly tossing the pillow back at Derek. Samson lifted his hands up—not even looking up at Derek, his face half-hidden by the covers—and signed, ”How in the hell are you up this early?” Beatrice sometimes made him wake up at odd hours for random cleaning sprees and whatever tickled her fancy at the time, but really. This was early for the mute boy. He pushed himself up, running his fingers through his unruly hair as if he could do something about it and then looked at his friend. Obviously, something was wrong, and he signed, ”What happened?”
[don't worry, your post was awesome. <33]

pretty handsome awkward , Regardless of Derek’s emotional distress, he could tell that Samson might’ve had something he was hiding as well. With the three years that he knew him, he noticed that his lip curled a little bit when he was worried/thinking way too hard about something. ”Hah.” he laughed as he sat up a bit and looked at Samson, it was a small waiting game for them to both be able to start signing with each other. ”Basically,” he spoke as his hands began to move, ”So do you remember about the hot swimmer water girl I met? So I saw her today. And her posse of friends gave me a death scare, literally. I don’t know this war is crazy, first time I’m actually not just being that scared little freshmen hiding underneath the bed and letting all the older kids do their job. Now, it’s on us and it sucks. At least, I know. You got my back right bro?” Derek asked as a small yawn came out of his mouth after, using his left hand to block it he looked back at Samson and waited for his answer, it was just a little uneasy for him, his first real high-stress situation. ”But that’s really all my issues man, what about you? You don’t seem too keen yourself Samson, unless it’s just your morning look. If that’s the case, you need to comb your hair, it literally looks like a bird nest.” Inserting a little chuckle at the end of his little speech, Derek scooted on the bed a bit more before biting his lip.
He ran his hands through his hair and pinched at the brim of his nose, really unsure of what to do. This was Derek’s real first situation like this and it sucked, he liked that water girl so badly, and nothing good came from this war that he didn’t really even want to fight. Loyalty being his most noble trait, he could never turn his back to his fellow dorm mates. Derek wasn’t even sure who Nell was, releasing a small sigh, he grabbed for a small pillow on his bed putting it on his lap for the time being, just one of those tedious tasks done when having nothing to really do. ”Tell me Samson.” Derek started, taking a deep breath and really annunciating his words, ”I’m stuck. What would you do if you were me?” his hands had been going at the same speed as his mouth, Derek’s hands acting like tiny paintbrushes illustrating the conversation they had been both having with swift delicate hand gestures. ”It’s hard man, It really is. And, you’re the only person I could think of turning too.” with his final words he smiled at Samson and noticed his dumbfounded face. Derek had just given a whole schpeel to Samson and for someone just waking up, he wasn’t sure how much his bro would be able to comprehend and how much of it he was going to need to repeat.

Samson wasn’t too fond of sign language. For one, it made him feel handicapped, and he didn’t consider himself to be so. For another, it had been forced on him even though he’d rather just use a notebook or his cellphone. But he’d taught Derek ASL, and he found that no matter how much he disliked using it, signing was so much more convenient than writing stuff out. Hand cramps, and all. He listened as Derek spoke and signed, sighing when he had heard what happened. ”Fucking war.” Unfortunately, it was difficult to convey emotion through sign language, but the frustration was there in Samson’s still-recovering-from-sleep face. It was obviously giving Derek a hard time. ”It’s causing problems for everyone in a relationship outside of their alliance.” Yeah, Samson knew that all too well. ”’Course,” he signed when Derek asked if Sam had his back just before a yawn. If there was one thing Derek could count on, it was Samson being there for him. No way would he turn his back on his affiliation, let alone the guy who must have been his closest friend in it. At Derek’s comment, Sam smirked. ”What’re you talking about, I always look like this.” Then seriously, he signed, ”As I told you, this fucking war is causing problems for everyone in a relationship. Well—“ He stopped short, dropping his head for a second before going on. ”Okay, it wasn’t really a relationship. But this Fire girl I’m interested in sided with Earth. I guess you can tell how well that’s going.” He feared that when Harley would get attacked, he would have to protect her and be labeled as a traitor. So he’d been keeping his distance from her.
As the poor kid raked his fingers through his hair, Sam pulled open the drawer of his nightstand to get his brush and attempt at combing out some knots. He knew that Derek had never faced something like this before, and was probably at a complete loss for as what to do about it. When he absentmindedly grabbed at a pillow, Sam tossed the brush back on the nightstand and signed, ”Honestly, this war is bullshit.” Of course, Derek was desperate for help, signing as quickly as he spoke, and in this situation and his friend had a few words of advice. ”Dude, I am you.” Sam shook his head. Their situations were similar, at least. ”Just give the chick some space. Maybe you could see each other outside of school and in secret or some crap. Because if you two try to talk on Academy grounds, it’s not gonna end well.” Death stares wouldn’t be the worst the two got. Sam was pretty concerned about his friend, seeing how he was dealing with the pressure of war. These kind of situations had never gotten to Samson before, though. But before, he didn’t have Harley and she hadn’t chosen to betray the affiliation. ”Hopefully all this will blow over soon, and you two can go skipping off into the sunset.” They were Thunder, though, and they understand how the affiliation worked as a whole—vindictiveness was one of their collective traits. It wasn't going to end without casualties. ”Did you even eat breakfast yet?”

pretty handsome awkward , Even though Samson didn’t like sign language, Derek was completely privileged and felt extremely honored for taking the time to teach him sign language. It benefited them in many different ways, but the best reason, was that they were able to talk shit without anyone being able to understand what they were even doing. It was priceless, a few months ago they had been on a double date/friend gathering and one of the people who went was this heinous bitch, the entire time they were signing to each other and saying how much she wasn’t worthy of being with the both of them, just a real rude bitch. At the end of the night they smiled at her and she had no idea that the entire time she was being insulted. Derek chuckled a bit on the thought, it was those little things that really meant that they were truly good friends. ”Right? It’s ridiculous.” his spoke as he signed, it was just something he normally did, the only time that he didn’t speak was when they were trying to act incognito of what they were saying.
”No joke right. Don’t worry about it though.” giving him a pat on the back, poor guy, if he didn’t have enough problems. ”Fire girl, do you remember what happened to the last one?” he mused as his hands continued to move quickly, Derek remembered the last time he was playing that gorgeous, sensitive mute guy, and surprisingly it worked really well. The only thing was that fire girls were feisty, a little more protective when it came to their boyfriends but, this one chick, she went crazy over Samson really wanting every deal of his day. It ended with Samson’s shit all sprawled off in the thunder common room, how the bitch got in? No idea. ”If you’re sure. I can’t stop you, but. Woah. Did you just say she sided with earth? Don’t tell me you were being a pussy and you sided with earth as well. You wanker, tell me otherwise.” Derek punched Samson’s arm, a quick little jab like friends do. ”It is complete bullshit but romance aside, I’m kind of excited to get to shooting lightning bolts at those water fags. I haven’t been able to shoot at a live target in a bit, call me sadistic.” he shrugged off his comment, a little vindictive he did have a few people he was ready to electrocute and really pay them back for being dickheads.
”hah. I guess so. Skipping? Not really my thing brah. I’d rather spend the night on your bed while you’re off studying. Call it payback for that time you stole the last taco in the cafeteria.” Derek winked and chuckled before sliding on a jacket, ”breakfast. Nah, I’m down. Go get ready.” Jumping back onto his bed, Derek looked up before asking, ”so what’s our first move other then don’t die? This is pretty intense bro. We might need to find a meat shield to take all the hits for us. Hah. Death isn’t fun.” with those words a small sense of concern to be heard in Derek’s voice, he really was slightly worried.

With a pat on the back, Derek had to remember Samson’s last girlfriend. ”I tried to forget, but thank you.” He gave his friend a wry smile. ”I tend to attract crazy bitches in general, Fire or not.” Okay, the last chick was something else, what with her little tornado through the dormitories. He wanted to stick up for Harley in some way, though, since he felt she was different. But that would probably get Derek accusing him of thinking he was in some kind of romcom, where that one girl comes along right when the protagonist needs it. How did he even know the redhead was different from any of the others, after all? Except for the fact that she gave no inclination of being a clingy nutjob. Quite the opposite, actually. He rolled his eyes as the guy suggested Samson sided with Earth. “I already told you I had your back, asshat.” Samson shoved him in response to the punch before signing, ”No matter what, I’m always with Thunder. Bros before hoes.” But Harley certainly wasn’t a hoe. Stop thinking about her so much.” God, he was a pussy just like Derek said. The other Thunder admitted his glee in considering. ”I have to agree with you there. Water students are free game for us, like a shooting range.” He snorted at this. He wasn’t very aggressive at all, he just enjoyed messing around. ”Just have to watch out for the Earth bastards, not like they’ll lift a finger, though.” The kids were a pacifistic bunch, so even if Thunders chose to fuck with them, Samson very much doubted how badly they’ll retaliate.
Samson eyed the sheets on his bed warily. ”Dude…that is just so many kinds of wrong.” He threw the sheets off as he got out of bed and went into his drawer to look for a clean shirt while Derek pulled on his own jacket. He’ll have to remember to let Derek have all the freaking tacos he wanted next time in the mess hall, the asshole. ”In the cafeteria, I’m pretty sure you’ll have your chance to fuck around with the Waters.” He shook his head—the poor bastards would be smart to avoid places like that so as not to be the buttend of a Thunder student’s cruelty. ”Meat shield. Any suggestions? I’m sure a few freshmen would work pretty well.” He pulled a shirt over his head, noting the worry in Derek’s voice. Seriously, he went, ”I doubt there’ll be many who’ll actually attack. But there are some Fire assholes we need to look out for.” Namely two, but he just hoped Harley wouldn’t turn out like the others and become his worst nightmare. With these thoughts, he headed down to the cafeteria and looked over at Derek to sign before walking in: ”Ground zero, bro. You ready?”
