Ash yawned as she stared out the window of her room. It was cold and icky outside. Honestly, Ashley did believe that the landscape in the winter was beautiful, but what it did to all her precious flowers was not. The winter months were hardest on Ashley because not only was she missing her green house, but the only place she could get her roses to grow was in the Earth dorms common room. She didn’t mind the commons room, and as a matter of fact she spent the most time there in the winter. She just didn’t like people touching her flowers when they were still growing. Ash could tend her flowers, and cut them, and give them to people, but when she was helping them grow it was back off or lose a finger... which she would then apologize profusely for because... well... Ashley just wasn’t a violent person. At all.
Ashley detested violence with a passion. If you couldn’t be mature and talk things out, and you had to resort to violence, you pretty much made her list. The list was not a nice place to be. Ashley had a mental list of everyone that has ever hurt her, betrayed her, or made her friends cry. She was highly unimpressed with these people and what she did to them? Well... it wasn’t something she talked about. Let’s just say sometimes they would fall asleep to roses in their room and wake up with Poison ivy rashes all over their bodies. Ashley never put someone who was undeserving on her list. She liked to see, and only could see, the good in people until they proved her otherwise.
Ashley sighed as she stared out her window in frustration. Snow, why couldn’t you just go away? Sure this was Canada, and no self-respecting Canadian complained about the weather... but Dammit! Ashley wanted to see her pretty flowers thrive! Not die off the second she planted the seeds. Eventually, she just got tired of looking out the window at the cold... it was making her cold. She felt a shiver flow through her body and turned away from the winter scene before her. Ashley ended up grabbing a Varsity styled jacket and throwing it on top of her rather business-like outfit. Sure the boots were high, the skirt was short, and the top made her curves stand out, Ashley didn’t care. Her leggings and Jacket were keeping her warm and she looked freaking good. Ashley knew that sometimes she cold dress like a slut. She was well aware of some of the comments she got. But, her logic was, why cover what you have? Why not wear something flattering instead of something that hides your natural beauty? It was one of the varied deep moments that Ash actually had.
Ashley needed to get out of the room. She was feeling rather... caged in. She grabbed her bag quickly, because she had an assortment of flower seeds in it, and headed towards the commons room. She knew there would be other people there, but at the moment Ashley just needed to see life grow in front of her, to see it thrive... and not die due to harsh conditions. The common room wasn’t a far trek from her dorm and she was there in no-time. While she had walked she had pulled out a rose seed from her bag. She was going to grow a beautiful bush of red roses. She felt herself become giddy with excitement and couldn’t help but smile as she walked over to a wall that had a ledge. The ledge itself was more of a shelf inside the well. There were flower pots already on it, as well as vine like structures growing from it, but Ashley didn’t care. She moved the plants to a different part of the room, and moved the vines simply by willing them to grow a different way. She wanted nothing to disturbed her little rose bush.
She placed the seed down on the new cleared space and focused. She internally thought encouraging words and willed the little see to grow. At one point she closed her eyes, just because it felt right to her. When Ashley opened them up, there was a small rosebush in the seeds place with buds already starting to form.

[SADFGH MAYDAY PARADE ILOVEYOUILOVEYOUILOVEYOU. They were my favourite band for a while ADSFGHG... anyway xD
Sure this was Canada, and no self-respecting Canadian complained about the weather... -raises hand- I complain. All the time. I hate winter I hate it so damned much--]
Today was not a good day. In fact, on a scale of one to ten, this day was terrible. The Fire elementals were out with a vengeance today, and one had burned Ashton quite badly just because he hadn't been able to move out of his way fast enough in the hallway. "It's not my fault I can't teleport," the boy muttered under his breath, inspecting the shiny red mark on his arm with distaste. It hurt quite badly and he figured that with the blisters forming on his skin, he couldn't escape this trip to the medical wing. He wished he could strangle the stupid boy who had done it with a vine--not to kill him or anything, just to get him to back off! Ashton wasn't weak or anything, but when it came to winter and a Fire student who was at least two or three years older than him, he grudgingly accepted that he didn't stand a chance. A long sigh brushed past his lips as he took his backpack off and slung it over one shoulder--the one without the burn. He didn't want to irritate the skin any further and make it difficult for the Fire healer in the infirmary to cure the burn.
Things got even lovelier when he saw the small waiting room in the medical wing of the Academy. He was not the only student hard on his luck for today. Elemental wounds certainly weren't the only things treated--he saw a freshman who looked as if she'd broken her ankle and went over to comfort her seeing as no one else wanted to. There was an angry looking Thunder student glowering around the room, a large purple bruise flowering around his eye. "Snowball," he snapped in explanation when someone else in the room decided to ask. "Ice-fucking-ball is more like it. Stupid fucking Water students. I'll fry 'em when I get the chance." He snapped a string of cuss words then glared at the double doors leading into the actual examination rooms. "All I want is a fucking ice pack--the irony, eh?" He snorted. "Had to be fucking busy in here today."
As it turned out, Ashton (despite being one of the latest to arrive in the room) ended up being the next one who was approached by the head nurse. "Um, I think that guy over there wants some ice, first," he said nervously, nodding his head toward the Thunder student. The nurse appeared to be of the Water affiliation which explained why she'd completely looked him over, but she grudgingly went to fill the request. As she disappeared into the supply room to get the pack, the Thunder student scowled a bit. "I don't need your help," he said almost defensively. "It's no trouble," Ashton insisted, used to their natures and not looking for any sort of thanks.
After everything had gotten sorted out and the burn on his arm had been reduced to a red mark that could have been sunburn and would probably clear up over the course of a couple days, Ashton found himself tired and with no other urge than to crawl into his bed and go to sleep. Maybe if he did that then this awful day would end and he could just go back to being his normal chipper and cheery self. In fact, Ashton was on his way to doing just that when he noticed that the dormitories weren't as empty as he'd thought. The scent of roses filled the air and made him smile softly as he was reminded of home, of the small garden that he'd always enjoyed working on with his mother. It had confused his Dad that he'd loved something which he considered a 'woman's' thing, but he'd never tried to take away from that mother-son bond--and of course it had all been explained when Ashton's powers had manifested and the agents from the Academy had came to the door.
Recognising his friend, the Earth boy beamed brightly, but made sure to keep his distance from the plant as he knew how particular she was about her flowers. "Hi Ashley," he said in that shy but sweet voice of his, sitting down on the couch.

Ashley loved how the roses made the room smell. It automatically put her in a better mood. It was like hearing the one song that no matter what cheers you up regardless of what’s going on. You know, the one song you have to get up and dance to, the one you know all the lyrics to off by heart, and the one that gets stuck in your head constantly.... the one that describes you, how you feel, and who you are perfectly. The smell of roses was making Ash feel like that. When she was around her flowers, it was like she was in another world. She remembered when her mom had brought in exotic lilies that were millions of colours with speckles and a scent that Ash couldn’t exactly place. Like growing delicate orchids that needed so much more care than any other plant Ash grew. Roses were putting her in an extremely good mood and anyone who walked by her could tell that. She watched as the simple thought of the roses blooming made them do it right in front of her eyes. Ashley was proud of herself, that she had come to control her element a lot better than before. In the beginning she could make roses bloom without being able to control how fast, or how many. Now.... she could actually pick a single bud and make that bloom instead of causing all of them to bloom at once.
Focus and control was what she had, and she had to practise. She knew there were several others in the Commons room right now, but she could care less. They were going to go about their own daily lives even if Ash said hi or smiled. She chose to just focus on making a single bud bloom fully. Ashley heard a familiar shy sweet voice come from behind her and she beamed. ”Hey Ashton.”
Ashley said waiting until the flower had fully blossomed before she turned around. She saw him sitting on the couch and she smiled widely at him. Turning back to her plant, Ashley snapped the stem of the single rose she had caused to bloom to its fullest. Smiling she walked over to where Ashton was sitting and held out the flower to him. ”How was your day?” She asked sweetly. Ashley knew her day had not gone the best, but at least she had managed to avoid the fire students as much as she possibly could. She would much rather be nice to them, and make friends with them, but with politics and all that fun stuff made it near impossible. Instead of risking a burn on her body, Ash opted for avoiding them unless they came up to her. This way she could still see the good in people until they proved her otherwise. Taking a seat next to Ashton on the couch she raised her legs so it was almost like sitting on the ground. She was kneeling pretty much with her legs sticking out to the other side away from Ashton so she didn’t accidentally kick him. She also looked at his arm and furrowed her brow. There was a red mark that could have passed for a sunburn, but in winter it was almost impossible. Ashley felt herself pout slightly as she looked up at him ”Is your arm okay?” She asked. Had he burned himself? Or had a fire student decided to be a complete dick and burn him because of a stupid reason. All in all, she was unimpressed with the fact that someone had hurt her friend. ”Do I need to put poison Ivy in someone’s bed?” Ashley added slyly. She may have been kind, caring, and trusting, but Ashley had her moments. You get on her list, and she could guarantee that there had been poison ivy in your bed at one point. She made sure she was really sneaky about it... like sending roses or lavender with Poison ivy seeds in the soil, then when it was near 1 am she’d focus on them and only them to make them grow.... Ashley could be evil when she wanted to be, and people should thank god that it wasn’t often! Ashton grinned brightly when she held out the flower to him, accepting it in his hands and being careful not to prick himself on any of the sharp thorns it possessed. "It's so vivid and brightly coloured," he complimented, examining it with a cheerful expression. Ashton had always been passionate about flowers and gardening. He wanted to grow up to maybe be a florist one day, or a gardener, or something along those lines. It was a modest career and it likely didn't pay well, but any excuse to live and work around his favourite element was enough for Ashton. Besides, the fact that all of his creations would turn out beautiful under his eternally green thumb meant that he could produce a thriving business without having to buy the plants and then sell them for a higher price. He could simply create the plants and give them low prices so that everyone could enjoy the beauty of his flowers and gardens without having to sell their soul to do so. Honestly, gardening expenses had gone through the roof! "Thanks," he grinned.
She asked him how his day was and he decided that a little white lie to save his friend from worrying over him definitely couldn't hurt too much. Ashton didn't like lying for any reason at all, but saying that his day had been absolutely awful and that all he wanted to do was crawl under his bed and die would not be a very good conversation starter. Ashton liked to keep his friends upbeat and in high spirits so he often avoided talking about his own woes and problems as much as possible. Of course this also meant that he caused himself a lot of stress due to the fact that it all built up over time, but anything he wasn't bothering his friends with was fine with Ashton. He hated being a pain in the backside. "It was great," he lied, smiling brightly and hoping that she wouldn't notice the rather obvious red discolouration on his arm.
And of course, since he was obviously trying not to let her see it, she saw. He sighed in defeat and stopped trying to hide it from her view, shrugging non-committally. "It's fine, I guess," he told her. It looked painful and so it was, so it wasn't like he could deny that he was in any pain. But at least he wasn't going to be left with horrid burn scars all up and down his arm even if he did have to wait a bit in the foyer of the medical wing to get it looked at. "But I got it checked out so it'll be okay soon." He gave another one of his bright and warm smiles, trying to reassure his friend that he was absolutely fine and that there was no need to panic. Because really, in Ash's mind there was not.
So when she asked if she needed to put poison ivy in the beds of his assailants, Ashton chuckled softly but ended up shaking his head. "They're just a bunch of idiots," he insisted, smiling again. "If we got them back for this they'd just get a bunch more of their allies and take a hit on our element and I really don't want such a fuss." Ashton had been through a couple inter-elemental wars in his three years at the Academy and they had not been pretty. Luckily there had been none in his freshman year, but there had been one last year as well as the year before it. "How are you, Ashley?" he asked suddenly, feeling a bit rude that he hadn't asked sooner.

Ashley watched as Ashton grinned and felt herself grinning as well. He took the flower from her hand and she watched as he was careful not to prick himself. Ashley didn’t mind the thorns, but when they pricked you they would hurt... a lot. ”It’s so vivid and brightly coloured,”
He said, complimenting her handy work. Ashley was just all smiles. She took pride in her flowers, and if she wasn’t so determined to become a world known artist than she probably would have become a florist like her mother. ”Thanks, this is the only place I can get them to bloom just like that... Winter is a pain in my butt.” Ashley said sighing, remembering the wintery coldness that await her outside. She did not like it. She was pretty sure it had snowed today, and that had made her more than a little annoyed. Winter... it was the bane of Ash’s existence, but it did bring her a whole new style of clothing to try. Ash was a girly girl, and there was no denying that. ”Thanks,” Ashton said with a grin. Ash returned the grin and tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. ”No problem, it made you smile.” She said. She much preferred it when her friends smiled than frowned. It would bug her because Ash was good at cheering people up, seeing them upset was just... painful in a way. Ash may not have been the best at telling the truth from lies, but she didn’t think that Ashton’s response was the whole truth. ”It was great,” He said and Ash raised an eyebrow. It was probably great until someone else changed how great it was... plus no winter day, with snow falling from the sky, and ungodly cold temperatures outside, and no plants possibly surviving, plus trees with no leaves on them, could have been great. Ash bit back her frown. ”No day could be great... it’s winter. Winter is... icky” Ashley said scrunching her face up at the word Icky. Whoever had come up with the season obviously did not think of a human beings need for warmth and love and sunlight. Ashley knew there were better words than Icky to describe how today was, but for some reason the word just felt right to say. It was Icky, gross, nasty, yucky, disgusting. Ash missed summer warmth, spring blooms, and just the colours of everything in the fall. Winter was the dead season... and anyone who loved it was probably insane. Ashley smirked, not in that cocky arrogant way, but in the gotcha! Kind of way. She knew he would tell her. It’s not like people could hide much from her when she got stubborn enough. ”It’s fine, I guess.” He said, which caused Ash to raise her eye in suspicion. Sunburns didn’t happen in winter... she was pretty sure unless you were in California and were skiing that it would even be somewhat likely. ”You guess?” Was her reply. Guessing if you were fine wasn’t something Ash liked to do. If she got hurt she’d rather get it checked out right away than wait and watch it get worse. Why wait for a cold to turn into the flu when you could fix the cold right away? ”But I got it checked out so it’ll be okay soon.” He said and Ash sighed with relief. At least he wasn’t going to stay injured. She guessed it had been worse before he showed up here so he had come from the nurses office. ”That’s good... the nurses really know what they’re doing... I think if they didn’t we’d all be in a lot of trouble.” Ashley said thinking about the other students she had seen. Some took things to entirely new levels of revenge. Even then, with some students it was just if you looked at them funny! Burns, broken bones, cuts... poisoning. The nurses could pretty much cure anything to an extent. Ashton shook his head with a chuckle at her poison ivy idea. It had worked before and she was never suspected... Ashley realized she got away with a lot more than she should have. ”They’re just a bunch of idiots,” Ashton insisted. Ashley agreed, they were idiots. She tried giving the fire elements the benefit of the doubt... but sometimes she just couldn’t. When they did something like this to one of her friends? Yeah that was when she just could not give them the benefit of the doubt. ”If we got them back for this they’d just get a bunch more of their allies and take a hit on our element and I really don’t want such a fuss.” Ashton said and Ashley sighed with defeat. Ash had been there four years, and she had been through elemental wars. They were not fun, nor were they pretty. As a matter of fact she just tried to hide when they happened. She had helped out, and as a matter of fact shared the poison ivy idea... but she really wasn’t a violent person... at all. ”Yeah, I guess your right... but they shouldn’t get away with it either.” Ashley said with a pout. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind was what she had heard before, but Ashley did believe in justice. Being hurt and nothing being done about it was not justice... it was wrong. ”How are you, Ashley?” Ashton asked and Ashley smiled and thought about it for a moment. ”Alright, mostly annoyed with the weather... I don’t like winter. It’s a dead season and it’s just... confining. I don’t like cold. I’ll just be happy when spring rolls around and things start budding again... It’s much prettier don’t you think?” Ashley asked with a smile. She could just see the flowers blooming, and the cherry blossoms coming into full bloom. She just couldn’t wait for spring again. [/blockquote][/blockquote] Tagged;; Ash Squared XD Outfit;; Click!Notes;; Nah, it's all good. Don't write when it hurts you! Ashton nodded sympathetically when his friend called the winter a pain--and that it was. "I really do try to enjoy all the seasons," the Earth boy sighed, "but when my fingers are so blue with cold that my hands start shaking..." He trailed off, with little else needing to be said about why he hated the cold so much. The castle was an old building and they didn't exactly have the most modern and reliable system of heaters. "I've got Fire elementals in most of my classes, though," he said with a bit of a chuckle. "That's one thing they're good for, you know? They warm up the classroom when they use their powers." Ashton wouldn't go so far as to say he hated Fire elementals--he didn't hate anyone, he simply wasn't capable of such a thing. He just didn't like how they were always so mean to he and his fellow Earth students without much reason or provocation. The Earth students were the lovers and the peacekeepers, they weren't going to turn around and make someone hate them needlessly. And yet the Fire students managed to do just that--hate. "It kinda sucks when we've got a Fire professor, though. They seem to forget that just because they can't feel the cold it doesn't mean it isn't there..." He didn't envy many things about being a Fire elemental, but that was on the list. To be warm in the middle of the frigid winter must have been a pretty nice bonus.
His smile only brightened when she pointed it out, and secretly Ashton was glad that he'd bumped into Ashley before he went off into his room and curled up into a ball like he'd been planning to. No moping for me! he decided as he forced his slight depression away. What had he even been thinking? Ashton was a bright and upbeat individual--he didn't usually let people bother him as much as the Fire student and his stupid attack had done today. "It did," Ash agreed brightly. "So thank you for that." She went on to say that winter was icky, Ashton furrowing his brow and nodding in agreement with her. "Yeah," he said. "Especially when the snow is all wet and slushy. It gets all into my boots and then I get a cold, and no one likes colds..." Ashton's immune system wasn't exactly what you could call incredibly weak, but it wasn't particularly strong either. When he got sick he was sniffling and sneezing and just feeling generally awful for the entire time. But it wasn't so bad when you got sick in a place like the Earth dormitories--even people who barely knew you would insist on bringing you soup and piling you with too many blankets so that you couldn't possibly have the audacity to shiver.
She challenged him a little when he gave a rather hesitant answer to her question, and of course that made Ashton feel a little guilty for lying to her. Even when he was lying with the general intent to protect his friends from worrying too much about him the Earth boy always got paranoid they would be upset with him. So he insisted that it was alright, at which time Ashley complimented the nurses on their handiwork. He had to smile again at that, nodding in definite agreement. "Yeah--I mean it's a little scary that it has to be a Fire elemental to heal the burns, but she was really nice. I'd bet it was just her genetics that made her Fire... or maybe she just mellowed out over time? I don't know--but it proves there are nice ones out there!" Optimism was one of Ashton's strong points. He couldn't look at a situation and see only the negative because Ashton Raleigh was not a negative guy by nature. He continued to smile brightly as he spoke. "It would be really cool if they could mend everything like they do the elemental wounds!" But of course that was just wishful thinking, wasn't it? "Still, they definitely know what they're doing. There was a Thunder kid there with a broken arm and they put it in a cast no problem. It's good that they don't have to send everyone to the hospital... that would be awful!" Of course things that needed serious surgeries and the like were always deflected to the hospital in Maple Hollow, but it was still good to have a medical wing around for the less life-threatening of injuries. "My arm only hurts a little, too. Like a sunburn." He poked it thoughtfully and then held it out so she could see the shiny red mark. "Looks like one too, doesn't it?"
Ashton giggled slightly when she pouted, poking her lip a little. He was giddy and childlike around his friends despite his age--he figured it was just because of his friendly nature. He felt comfortable around those people whom he called his best friends and he wasn't afraid to show that off. "They'll get busted for something eventually," he said, his optimism back in full-swing now that his friend had cheered him up. "They always get in far too much trouble for the average person to handle and then the staff straighten them out!" Of course, it wasn't like they could take away your powers or anything. Though there were rumours of things that could erase the inner Gift, as it was called, if someone truly misused and abused it. He was always scared of screwing up bad--he loved his gift and he honestly didn't know what he would do without it. But if Fire students got away with attacking people left and right he supposed that they only took away your gift for really extreme offences or else the Earth students would end up being the only ones with Gifts. And as amusing as that sounded at first inspection, he didn't think he'd like that. Just because they were mean and sometimes a little overbearing didn't mean that they should be wiped off the face of the Earth.
She spoke of the spring and Ashton grinned like a giddy toddler, nodding in enthusiasm. "Spring is so bright and colourful!" he said. "I love how all the leaves bud on the trees and the snow goes away and everything is so... so... alive!"
