Brown colored eyes was all the little girl could make out of the blurred image that was in front of her, so cold, so dark but so very menacing. She tried to focus on the whole picture, to make it clearer. She focused as hard as she could and she managed to make out lips, red soft looking lips, they were frowning at her and she couldn't help but frown back while getting lost in those pools of darkness, her attention drifted back to the lips when they parted slightly as if to say something, she waited and kept waiting until the eyes became blurred and the lips turned into a wicked smile. She could smell the alcohol as the warm breathe flooded the girl’s senses. Suddenly a loud smack resonated as the little girl’s head flew to the side from the sheer force of the blow. Tear threatened to spill from the little girl’s eyes, but a resolved hatred and wave of pride stopped her. Instead she squared her jaw off and gave the older woman the toughest scowl a five year old could muster. The girl was met with another hit to the face. ”Wipe that look off your face Rachael,” her mother said before cocking her hand back once more.
Her eyelids snapped open as she abruptly woke up, groaning softly as a slight headache assaulted her senses, the remnants from a big night out. Her breath came out in short bursts as she tried to shake the nasty mental images she had suffered from most nights. Rachael wasn’t big on sleeping much since it usually meant a flood of overplayed nightmares at any given time. Partying and working herself past the point of exhaustion usually took care of the problem. This was not her room, she concluded once she was able to put herself at ease. The culprit behind Rachael’s good night lay sleeping beside her, one of Rachael’s hands resting on the blonde’s stomach. Rachael gently removed her hand and turned to lie on her back. Peeking under the covers, she noticed her lack of attire. A hand gently crept under the sheets to trace over the small tattooed words on the right side of her ribcage. ’It’s not like it’s run off somewhere,’ she thought.
As much as she wanted to just sleep for a few more moments her mouth was too dry to ignore. She shifted out of her friend’s bed, flinching as her naked body was exposed to the cold. Rachael slipped her knickers back on once she was able to relocate them in the small bedroom. There was no sense in putting her dress back on just for a glass of water. Picking up a discarded shirt of her friend’s she deemed herself suitable to explore the apartment for some relief. ”Altair won’t mind…” she thought. Altair better not after last night. Perhaps an encore of last night’s activities was in order before she hit the road back to her place to properly sleep. The thought put a grin on the raven-haired girl’s face.
Still grinning to herself, she pushed the bathroom door open. Her grin faltered when faced with her reflection. The woman moved forward carefully, running a hand through her hair, and peered at herself in the mirror. Bruises circled her neck, some in the distinct shape of teeth. Nothing a little cover up couldn’t hide. Her hair was what troubled her the most. Usually she had it done to perfection. Sleek, shiny, and usually pulled back to showcase her bone structure. Now it was down a wild almost feral look as her choppy layers rebelled against gravity. There was no point in trying to tame her sex hair at this point. It could have been much worse. Resolved that she actually looked sexy enough to convince Altair for a round two… well she had lost count after last night. Regardless, Rachael exited the cramped bathroom.
As she looked around, she saw that Altair’s apartment was small. A tad smaller than the place she had herself in Downtown. There was a living room area with a decently comfortable looking couch and a rather small kitchen. There was also the bathroom she had just left and a door that led to what was presumably the bedroom for Altair’s mysterious sister, but that was it. She stood in the hall, perplexed by the fact that Altair lived with her sister. Rachael had heard titbits in passing conversation with her friend, but had yet to see her. The senior wasn’t even certain if the mystery sister was home. The girl probably wouldn’t have gotten much peaceful sleep if she were somewhere in the apartment. Rachael and Altair hadn’t exactly been thinking about the concerns of anyone but themselves last night. Rachael didn’t miss having to care about the opinion of a roommate since she got a place of her own last year.
Rachael walked over to the kitchen sink, drawn to the prospect of getting rid of her cottonmouth. If only she knew where Altair kept the glass wear. Slightly concerned, she searched through the kitchen cabinets. Pulling out what looked to be a clean glass, Rachael ran the water and filled up the container. As the water coaxed her throat she relished the feeling. The dry after morning feeling from drinking always felt like suffocating upon waking up.

Rowena was still groggy and tired when she opened her eyes that morning and it only took a moment or two of thought to recall why. She didn't mind that her sister had brought home a partner of hers from who-the-hell-knows-where but she hadn't got as good of a sleep as a result. Ro was a light sleeper and it didn't take much to wake her, so the sounds coming from one bedroom over had done the trick with practised ease.
She lay for a moment deciding whether or not she should try and get back to sleep, then shrugged it off and sat up in bed, tousling the back of her blonde hair. I need a shower. It was mussed up from sleep but she couldn't be bothered to jump in the shower right away. Her stomach was growling and it was still weird to immediately decide that eating was a good idea after struggling for so long with her weight and body issues. There were still days when she tried to suppress the rumbling in her tummy or ignore the pangs if she felt like she'd already had enough. Recovering didn't mean cured, after all. I could do with some bacon. Practically able to smell it cooking, the temptation drew her out of bed. She stopped to stroke her fingers through Silk's soft fur, a smile touching her lips when the bunny twitched its nose at her. Altair had gotten her the creature and she'd always felt grateful for her sister's gift.
Her first thought upon seeing Rachael from behind was that she had rather long hair for a boy and a rather feminine figure. Then it clicked and she blinked. "You're a girl." It was blunt and coloured with surprise, the blonde Thunder blinking as if doubting the credibility of her own vision. The dark haired woman was still standing there when her eyes reopened and so she was forced to accept that she wasn't hallucinating. Huh. She hadn't known that her sister was into girls. Rowena had never tried to her own sexuality from her twin, figuring that Al wouldn't care who her sister slept with, but she'd never expected to see her other half with someone of the same gender.
Shrugging it off, she went into the fridge and set an apple on the counter as well as the package of bacon. She ignored the apple for now (it was for Silk) and set the pan on the stove, laying the strips down without looking toward the other woman. "Name's Ro," she introduced herself. "Who're you?" She assumed by the lack of Altair's presence that her sister was still asleep, which was fine. She could make conversation (or attempt to, with her quiet nature) with the stranger in the mean time.

Altair hated nothing more than hangovers. She didn't get them very much anymore, it just depended on the circumstances. Had she eaten before she drank? Had she been feeling well the whole day? Enough variables went into it that the possibility of a hangover was like choosing something from a grab bag. She might wake up with just a headache, sometimes without anything, or she might go with option three -- God's choice for this splendid morning as she opened her eyes to the sunlight. She didn't sleep in, no, that never happened when it came to the Altair Bennett, she who rises with the sun. The Fire elemental dragged her hands down her face, groaning into the palm of her hands as she arched her back. Everything always seemed so much better the night before, when all she could feel was the giddiness of booze.
A moment's hesitation made her wonder if she should even get up or not, but it was short-lived before she threw the comforter off her body and placed her bare feet on the floor. She knew she looked a mess without even glancing at the mirror in her closet, but she did so anyway just so she could cringe at her reflection. "I look like Gary Busey's mutant daughter," she muttered to herself, red-ringed eyes and scowling expression all part of the package. She pulled on sweats and dragged her fingers through her hair, which turned out to be a bad decision thanks to the headache. How many glasses of that punch did she even have? Can't remember... All she could hope for was that the other kids who'd gone to prom felt just as shitty as she did. Maybe it was cruel, but she didn't want to be the only one suffering from her own prank.
Scratching her stomach and yawning as she went over to the kitchen, she blinked when she heard voices. Voices. Oh right, Rachael. She couldn't even smile with success at her conquest, couldn't feel the least bit good when her stomach had locked down Fort Knox tight and Ziggy was playing the drums on her head.
She entered the kitchen, placing her hands on both sides of the door frame. Her hair hung in her face, making her look like what came from the Black Lagoon. "For the record, I hate everyone, which means if anyone tries to speak above a whisper or turn the lights on, I will tear your flesh from your bodies." She spoke her words with flight attendant politeness, barely able to feign the smile for it. She slid in, going into the cabinets for the instant shit she had bought just the week before. I swear to god, if I got decaf... "Who wants coffee?" she muttered, not even trying to look like she had her shit together. This was not anything new for Rowena, but she didn't think that Rachael had ever seen her like this. A first time for everything, she thought as she scooped the coffee into her cup, wrinkling her nose. She hated instant.

Rachael didn’t bother to turn around when she heard someone walk in. Once she heard the voice she was confident enough to identify it as Altair. What she was more concerned with was her lack of reaction and how she seemed to be stating the obvious. She was probably just too tired or something like that. ”Yeah, and so are you babe. Didn’t seem to phase you too much last night,” she teased. Rachael filled up on another glass of water to start her slow path to recovery. God her kidney was a champion sometimes. A little water to help flush the system wouldn’t hurt though. Rachael finally turned around to get a better look at her friend. Well, Altair cleaned up decently considering how smashed she was last night. When her friend cracked open the refrigerator Rachael craned her neck to check her out a bit. Breakfast, a lay and all with a friend, sweet deal. Altair must have been feeling generous this morning.
Though, as time went on her actions got a bit more confusing. There was no way the blonde drank so much that she forgot who she was. They were fucking friends, or at least as close as the two could be with each other. Usually Rachael held the younger girl in high regards but she certainly was acting strange this morning. Rachael didn’t know where she was going with this but if it ended up in some weird role playing thing, Rachael was going to bail out so fast. So the first time they hooked up was in a club bathroom. Since this was her first at Altair’s apartment maybe the model thought it would be funny to fuck with her. ”Cute Ro,” she said back to her friend. After last night Altair shouldn’t ever forget Rachael after her little performance last night. ”I’m Jasmine. I love crafts, winter horseback rides through the park and long walks into the sunsets on the beach,” she grinned towards the younger girl before taking another sip of water.
It was than that a blonde super mass stumbled its way into the kitchen doorframe. ’Whoa, looks like Al’s sister isn’t big on first impressions,’ she thought. Then again Rachael was the one practically half naked in their kitchen. She gave clear instructions about how things were going to go down this morning. 'Um, kind of rude...don't even know you yet, but alright,' she thought as she took another sip. The dishevelled mess finally made eye contact with Rachael. ’Wait…what- Holy Shit!’ She began coughing up the water she had been drinking. Why wasn’t there a way to alleviate pain when choking on water? It took her a bit of time to regain normal breathing from all that water going down the wrong pipe.
Holy fucking Lindsay Lohan… there was two of them! Just standing in the kitchen as if this was everyday life. Now Rachael was usually pretty calm and composed about most things that came her way. Of course it wasn’t everyday you see doppelgangers. For once her stoic face was overrun by her deep sense of shock and confusion. She was looking back and forth at two identical girls, well more of a before an after in this case, while wearing just her knickers and some tee shirt. Rachael pulled down at the bottom of her shirt, suddenly a bit weirded out by the whole situation. ”You’re not Altair,” she finally blurted out to the first blonde Bennett that walked in.

Rowena blinked at the stranger, her expression blank and fairly unreadable. What. Having just woke up, her mind wasn't at its sharpest and so she did not immediately connect what was going on in this situation. "Never said I was bothered." The blonde shrugged her shoulders, yawning. She didn't have an issue with Rachael being a girl, she liked girls, it was more that she'd always assumed her twin swung in the other direction. Altair had never brought a girl home before, not to Rowena's knowledge. She was too groggy for an interrogation, though, so with that comment she proceeded to dig through the fridge for something to eat.
When she introduced herself she expected perhaps a nod, maybe a name in return. What she wasn't expecting was a sarcastic answer that she had trouble believing. What kind of an introduction was that? She looked away from the bacon she was laying into the pan for a moment in order to fix the strange girl with a critical stare. You're odd. As a Thunder, it didn't take a whole lot of time for her to start judging someone for better or for worse. Rachael was getting the short end of the stick right now due to her weird attitude. Al must have really been drunk. Not that she could hold that against her sister. It wasn't like she hadn't had her fair share of strange encounters. Alcohol could make a lot of people seem far more appealing than they normally would be.
She had turned back to her task when Altair spoke and the words caused her to look round, her lip twitching slightly at her sister's oh-so-polite demands. More than accustomed to it, she easily replied, "Morning, sunshine. You look lovely." Al might not have been in the mood for her teasing but this was what the sisters were like with one another. Altair busted her balls and Rowena would tease right back most of the time. She liked living with her sister, she thought it was probably a lot better than living on her own. "Coffee sounds good." It would save her from having to make any as she was already occupied with cooking. "Try not to murder me about the food, will you?" Her smile was too sugary to really be genuine. She was about to say something else when Rachael uttered a rather surprised exclamation and caused her to look round.
Oh. She might have been slow that morning but she wasn't outright stupid, catching on the moment the words reached her ears. It delighted her every time people confused her with her sister because it was fun to watch them double take when they realised their mistake. Sometimes she would pretend for a few minutes just to be an ass. It was impossible to troll when Altair was standing in the room with her, though, so she said, "Well spotted." She looked over at her twin with a smirk. "Bagged yourself a smart one, didn't you?" It was rather easy to confuse twins that you didn't know well, however, and so it was just Rowena playing it up. Rachael was probably half-decent, merely confused. "I'm only joking. Your name's not really Jasmine, is it?" She scoffed her amusement, shaking her head.

Any confusion that may have been coming from Rachael didn't register. Hell, she could barely focus on where she was walking, let alone the expression and behaviors as others. And it had easily slipped her mind that Ro looked identical to her. She could forget sometimes because the Thunder girl was a completely different person. Even her style had its differences, and it only came up when they were intentionally tricking someone about who they were. It might have been nice to warn Rachael last night, but Altair had to say she was more preoccupied with tearing her clothes off her body. Couldn't really think about anything else at that point.
She couldn't even muster a glare in response to her sister's teasing. That would require effort she needed to put into stepping forward and grabbing cups. I should have slept through the entire day. It would have probably been better than this. "Suck my dick," was what she managed to grumble, one of her rapier sharp comebacks in the usual back and forth with her sisters. No one could blame her for not being at the top of her game, she wasn't even dressed as he usually would be. It was freezing, she wanted to be warm, and sweats it was. Altair grabbed another cup, and put more instant into that one, saying, "Anything explodes, I'm not cleaning up." Then, to Rachael, she said, "This is your last chance, sweetie, don't think I'm getting it back out for you if you decide you want coffee." This point was emphasized by her twisting the cap back on top of it.
As she filled the pot with water, brushing strands of hair out of her face, she spared a glance at the older Fire when she made a comment that had her rolling her eyes. "No shit," she said almost at the same time the other blond said 'well spotted', still forgetting that Rowena looked in every way like her. Rachael must have been having a swell time, stuck with the two lovely ladies. At least Rowena had the decency to tell her she was joking and act like a semi-respectable host. As she turned the stove on, Altair waved her hand behind her and said, "'At's my twin. The one who should get on food. I want to test the resilience of my stomach lining." For once it was not an insult at Rowena's cooking, but the fact that she should probably get something in her stomach. Even if she ended up upchucking it. She didn't think that would happen, considering she didn't heave anything yet.
"Who the fuck is Jasmine?" Altair lifted her head from intense pot-watching to blink at the two of them, unaware that Rachael had been talking to her sister like it had been her in the room. It might make her laugh, if she had the energy for it. She had the energy to be totally grumpy, who knew what else she could be capable of.

Altair had such a way with words sometimes. Rachael had been having a hard time trying to process things this morning since waking up from her nightmare. The twins may not have known it to look at her; she had long since mastered her mask of prepared nonchalance; but she had never felt quite right when she woke up so abruptly. It always threw a major wrench in her plans for the day. When she first had them, Rachael had been unprepared – it was something expected, and it didn't take too long to move on. Sometimes even now with time she felt as helpless as she did as a little girl, but things have changed for her. Theoretically there was nothing to fear. Seeing those images replay in her sleep could knocked her back, drawn her in, and left her unprotected when she woke. She supposed it wasn’t so bad this time for many reasons; but the fact that this new discovery of Altair’s home life. That girl was without a doubt one the toughest girl Rachael had ever shared a bed with – including herself. But even Altair had someone sort of family to come home to. Self-pity, an emotion Rachael still felt like a physical presence, was slowly fading into less humane notions like confusion right now.
Despite the emotional upheaval from her subconscious, Rachael had managed to catch Altair’s second offer of coffee. ”Y-yeah, sorry.” Coffee might be able to kick start her brain better than the water was. Rachael reached over to untwist the cap for Altair since she was too dazed to answer her the first time. ”So you’re Altair’s sister, Ro. Sorry, she never said anything about you being twins.” Ugh, she sounded so pathetic, apologizes twice in one meeting. She did owe it to the girl though for giving her playful lip. Maybe if Al had warned her before hand Rachael wouldn’t look like such an ass right now. ”I’m actually Rachael and I’m not into all that bullshit I made up before,” she clarified. Great, she had thought Altair as Rowena made a bad first impression, but right about now Rachael felt like she belonged in the corner with a dunce cap on.
On a good day Rachael wasn’t some ass hat like how Ro teased her with. She wasn’t a rocket scientist by any means, but she was on Al’s level of valuing common sense and shunning those who were too stupid to understand what that even meant. It was like her own personal mantra encouraged, ‘If you’re not me, than fuck you.’ Rachael had check out her fuck buddy’s sister…that had to be breaking some friends with benefits rule somewhere. But was it really that bad since they were physically identical? No, that probably made it worse. Circumstances probably covered her for this mistake though. How else could she break it down for Altair about her joke gone terribly wrong? ”Jasmine is the alter ego I created because I thought ‘you’ as your sister Ro was about to go fifty shades of crazy on me this morning,” Rachael knew her friend well enough to know that even in an ideal mood she find it funny on some level. ”Which you have to admit kind of made sense up until a minute ago.”

There was some sympathy for the state that Altair was in simply because they were twins and she loved her but Rowena was more amused than anything else. Hangovers were the victim's own fault and so she wasn't going to cut the teasing. "Rude," she sniffed, lifting her chin and pursing her lips. It didn't bother her to carry out the back and forth in the presence of their poor guest who was still in the process of piecing things together. Rowena made no effort to modify herself for anyone she didn't know.
Altair was her normally jolly and approachable self as she grumbled her way into the kitchen and Rowena's smile was fond as she continued to mess around with the food. She loved her sister dearly, trolling aside, no matter how unpleasant the mornings could be. It was a good laugh. "Don't look at me. It won't be my fault if we're still scrubbing coffee off the walls next week." It wouldn't be the first disaster they'd suffered with the apartment. Her mind always went back to the hole they'd had in the door for a while, how it 'added character'. The place was all kinds of shabby. We need to move. If their spending habits were a little less steep, maybe they could manage. There was often a bit of shame involved with bringing people over and she avoided it where possible. A hook up in the back of a car was better than in her bedroom if she thought she was going to be judged for it. Then again, some nights she was too far-gone to care.
The Thunder was amused and a little smug about the meeting, entertained by the idea that Rachael had confused them. The two sisters differed in style and temperament but they were still alike enough to be confused by anyone that didn't know better. She got a kick out of it each time it happened. "Of course she didn't." Lifting an eyebrow, she looked over at Altair. "Were you hoping to give her a fright come morning or were you too drunk to be so clever?" She was teasing even now, poking fun at her sister's intelligence while not actually meaning a word of it. She'd always considered Al to be smarter than she was. "Cool. Rachael's a better name than Jasmine anyway." She liked the sound of it more. Jasmine struck her as... well, the exact kind of person she wouldn't want to hang around. Whoever that was.
Anyone else demanding that she make food would get a sharp whack over the head with the pan she was cooking it in but Altair merely got a dry chuckle. "It's coming, I'm not a robot." She looked at Rachael and decided to be a decent host by asking, "You up for anything?" Like with Altair and her coffee, Rowena certainly wasn't going to be taking delayed requests. She was selfish for the most part and unless she was getting something out of a deed there wasn't a high chance she would do it.

Altair got another cup, filling it up, her movements as mechanic as they came. She could operate. Even on two hours of sleep, she could function as if she'd had the most peaceful rest in all her nineteen years. Closer to twenty. God, she was getting old. "You'll be lucky if I'm not cleaning your blood from the walls after this." The fact that she wasn't outright snapping meant that she wasn't angry at all. Grumpy. Cantankerous. Trying to decide if the ringing in her ear was something to worry about. She hated her body sometimes.
Rachael then pointed out that Altair hadn't filled her in on the whole twin deal. Triplet. She wouldn't correct the Fire graduate, however; that would open quite a few wounds. "Must have slipped my mind," she said. She didn't feel the need to inform people of her twinship unless they specifically asked. They didn't. Most people didn't think twins when they heard sisters. Rowena spoke then, continuing to bust her balls. "I've been considering putting you up for adoption, so I figured it was a moot point." She said, casting her a smile that was too sweet to be anything but sarcastic. She went back to looking for creamer. They had to have some, coffee was one of the three major food groups for Altair. If she couldn't eat, she'd be running on the stuff all day. "I'll go with option B, thanks." Option B being too drunk. "I can't remember half of last night. Any luck with you, Rach?" she asked. A nickname. An honor, as a matter of fact, because they only other person she called by a nickname was her sister.
If she were a semi-decent person, she would feel bad about being grumpy around her sister. However, not only were they siblings and siblings oftentimes argued and bickered, but their personalities didn't consist of sunshine and Furbies. Rowena asked if Rachael wanted food, and it was like welcoming her into their mess of a lifestyle, where the carpet needed to be vacuumed and the pipes groaned whenever a toilet flushed. The water came to a boil, and she poured it into the cups, before handing one off to Rachael. "If you want sugar, you'll have to look for it." She couldn't be bothered, she'd just gotten out the creamer for herself. Then to Rowena, "You want arsenic in yours, Ro?" More of that wonderful sibling love she had for her sister. So she really did love her sister, but she also could be a ball-buster.
She stirred the creamer into her own cup. "And someone needs to get me Advil." Altair didn't feel like finding it on her own. Did she look like she had the energy for that? She just made coffee, for God's sake, they should be bowing down and kissing her toes. She wriggled said toes, grimacing at them. In desperate need of a pedicure.

It was almost endearing as Rachael watched the two twins volley playful –hopefully harmless- insults back at each other. A smile tugged at her lips as they got more creative with their little banter. Rowena was turning out to be just as sharp as Altair. Though she seemed a bit dryer in her delivery so far. As an only child and one who usually ditches the morning after a wild night, this was all very foreign to the older girl. Must have been strange being roommates with a relative. Then again the life of a twin was probably filled with constant company. It’s hard to escape someone who is the same age as you, looks just like you, and lives under the same roof as you for most of your formative years. She wondered if they were anything like those creepy stories you hear about in books sometimes. Twins always near each other and not ever moving away from the other person and still dressing alike well into their fifties. Nah, Altair most certainly wouldn’t let that happen in her lifetime.
She smiled a bit at Rowena’s approval of her real name. Jasmine did have sort of a dirty feel to it for Rachael. Along with Crystal, Vicky, Candy, etc. They all sounded like very cheesy porn star names. Hence why she thought it would be appropriate at the time. Looks like Altair wasn’t one to disclose the twin info all too much. Probably wasn’t a big deal anymore having lived with it forever. One day this whole meeting with Rowena would just be another funny story. ”You were pretty wild last night Altair. Most of that punch you spiked went straight back to you.” A few highlights stuck out to the much more sober fire graduate. Good old Gingie Sam, Altair’s brief dancing stint that was borderline pedophilia, the look on said boy’s face when they two walked past him as they were leaving. He did not get anything the blonde had promised him that night. ”As couple’s were dancing you were telling them to leave room for the Holy Spirit and shit like that.” And then by the time Altair could barely string together a sentence she had moved her attentions onto Rachael. They way she moved on the dance floor was straight up indecent. That was when the older girl pretty much dragged her to her car and brought them back here. No need to repeat that in front of Rowena though, poor girl already had to hear it once.
As her hands wrapped around the mug Altair offered her, she revealed in the warmth it was providing. A dodgy old t-shirt and her knickers were not as smart of a move for her than she thought. Rachael passed on the sugar for today. Usually she was a milk and sugar kind of coffee drinking, but the bitterness might serve her well this morning. ”I’m good,” Rachael held up a hand and politely declined the food offer. She didn’t feel the urge to hurl yet and she wasn’t going to test it by giving her stomach any ammunition. ”I’ll just have to see where the coffee takes me.” Seeing as Altair was out for the count and Rowena was manning the cooking station, Rachael made her way over towards the kitchen doorframe. Might as well lend a helping hand in exchange for the free coffee. ”I can grab it if you want. Do you keep some in the bathroom?” There was always the off chance Rachael had a small bottle in her clutch hiding away in Altair’s room.

Poor Rachael was stuck watching what was essentially a verbal tennis match between the twins but Rowena didn't feel bad in the least as she smiled back at Altair and then turned her head to their guest. "She's sweet, isn't she?" She looked back at the pan, now addressing Altair with a, "Blood's a bit hard to get out of things, though, better make sure you don't off me in the living room. Carpet's enough of a mess." No matter how many times they scrubbed the floors, washed the windows and went over the carpet with the vacuum, the feel of living in a shitty apartment never faded. She wondered if the off-coloured carpet had once been a much more inviting shade. Probably. Maybe a bloodbath would do it a bit of good. Red's not a very attractive colour for a rug but it's better than what we've got. In her dreams she lived in a designer apartment with loads of windows and an excellent view but that wouldn't be for years yet, if ever.
Like her sister, Rowena rarely mentioned having a twin unless it came up in conversation. It was common enough knowledge among anyone in the Academy that paid attention to those kinds of things, especially since the twins had led half of the Fire and Thunder alliance in the previous year. "I could always switch places with you. They'd never guess the difference." It was easy to tell them apart if you knew what to pay attention to. Altair preferred her hair up while Ro liked hers down and if they did switch that up, there was always their distinct styles. Then again, perhaps it wasn't as easy for someone that didn't pay attention to clothing as much as the Thunder herself did.
Hangovers were a bitch. "Almost wish I didn't remember. It's not like you made an effort to keep it down." There was no anger in her tone. It was more flat than anything, her shoulders lifting in a shrug to signify that she didn't care all that much. She wasn't the one with the hangover. Both Rachael and Altair were feeling the lovely effects of karma while Rowena cheerily cooked her bacon and awaited the coffee that would cure the only ailment she had, exhaustion. Rachael decided it was as good a time as any to fill her in on some information that she didn't need to know. "I don't need a visual, thank you," she said with a roll of her blue eyes. "I heard enough." Not that Rachael had been talking to her. She did spare a sound between a laugh and a scoff in her throat at the mental image the Fire produced of her twin dancing around under the influence of spiked punch. That was Altair, all right.
"That'd be lovely. Thanks, doll." Arsenic in her morning coffee, just what the doctor ordered. She accepted the mug from her sister and opened the cupboard to get out the sugar, flinching back from the pan and giving it a reproachful look when it spit at her. "Bloody thing." The hinges on the cupboard were loose, too, and she remembered one time when it had come off in her hand when she'd opened it too rough. This house is falling to bits. She sprinkled some sugar into her drink and then put it back. "Should be some in the cabinet beside the cold and flu shit." Her immune system must have hated her for how often she came down with things. She kept the medicine up there to take the edge off of a bad day and help her sleep and she remembered seeing some Advil beside it. "Bacon's ready, Al." She slid half onto each plate and pushed one across the counter to her sister.

"I am a fucking ray of sunshine," Altair responded to her sister, sounding just like that ray of sunshine, busting through the window and raining happiness on the two women in the kitchen. Despite her usually cantankerous mood, she could often be mistaken for her twin, just as Rachael had done. They were similar enough, as a matter of fact they shared many qualities. Probably not the best qualities, but they were similar enough that the twinship could help them trick many people. It had actually not been her goal, though, not that she could remember.
Altair smirked at her sister, giving a half-hearted apology in: "Sorry, babe." She really wasn't, though. Of course not. Rachael spoke of last night, or her story of last night. Altair appeared to think, as if she could remember despite the mental block and her pounding headache. "Mmm, I'll remember, eventually. Least it was fun, huh. Holy Ghost and all." It sounded fun. Mostly because of the fact that she had a lot of her own spiked punch. Fixing up her own coffee, she turned over her shoulder to tell Rachael, "Might need to repeat a part of last night to make sure though." Unlike Rachael, she wouldn't censor herself in front of Rowena, even when she said that she didn't need anymore info from Rachael's mouth. Just because she was horrible like that and knew that her sister did not need to know the details of her sex life, no matter how close they were.
At least she was kind enough to leave poison out of her sister's coffee. Especially since she seemed to have a hard enough time with the bacon. When Rowena confirmed Rachael's question, Altair told the latter, "I would give you directions but I'm ninety-nine percent sure you're not gonna get lost in here." The apartment was practically closet space. Well maybe not closet space, but Altair wasn't about to be very kind with her words when it came to the apartment. They'd been living here for years one, and maybe if she wasn't so selfishly focused on her needs she'd do something about it. Even though she thought she was, Altair could not be thought of as perfect.
When Ro announced the bacon was finished, Altair immediately picked one up and placed it in her mouth, placing more on a plate and saying, "Thanks, kiddo," and ruffled the Thunder girl's hair. She headed out into the living room and sat down on the couch, putting her coffee on the table and resting the plate on her stomach. "Did we pay cable?" she called out to the other girl before turning it on and seeing for herself whether or not she'd have anything to watch. Though she had kept it a rule for the others to keep their voices down, she did not hold herself to her own rules.

Even in sarcasm the term sweet and Altair should never be mixed. Entertaining, maybe, but sweet conjured up images of what Rachael would imagine a younger Altair might have been compared too, before shattering that vision with all of her sauciness. Young Altair and Rowena must have done wonders with the baby sitters. There very own modern day take on Parent Trap, hijinks included. Rachael had a hard time imagining Altair any other way than how she was now around the older girl. Luckily for her though, Rowena seemed to be a good pair for her. Not many people would be up for the task of keeping up with Altair all the time, or how sort of cantankerous she could be as Rachael just learned this morning. Heavens were on her side that the younger blonde had never burned her. Rachael wasn’t exactly as rosy as pearls when she had hangovers either.
Had Rachael had any shame for her actions she may have blushed at Rowena’s retelling of the pervious night. What she didn’t know pervious to this morning was just how much Rowena may have heard. Must have been the thin walls of this place that clued the other sister in to the company her sister brought home. Tact has never been Rachael’s strong point, but life's too short to get embarrassed. Just as she was about to leave the two sister’s to themselves for a bit, she caught Altair’s declaration, causing her to peak her head back in at the kitchen doorway. ”It would be a shame for all those fun memories to be forgotten. Better get that Advil then, yeah?” wiggling her eyebrows at the blonde as she disappeared once more.
Without trying to look too much at what was in Bennett’s medicine cabinet, Rachael searched for the white and blue bottle of painkillers. Instead of guessing how many Altair wanted Rachael just grabbed the whole bottle. Personally she had this weird pet peeve of others handling pills or food that would directly be consumed. They idea of someone’s gross sweaty hands touching something so small and intimate that was going to be consumed seemed unhygienic to the older girl. As she swung the cabinet door closed the overwhelming smell of bacon invaded her senses. Had her stomach not been rebelling against her she would have been all over the tempting food.
Rachael figured she might as well let the twins catch up as she snuck a peak at her phone. Creeping back into Altair’s room, Rachael traced her hazy steps from last night to find her clutch abandoned on the bedroom floor. Her phone flashed a few unread text messages, but what she was looking for was her calendar. A red numbered date on the screen keyed her off to a work night tonight at eight. Good, a little cash to line her pockets never put her in a bad mood. Since rent was already paid up for the month Rachael could spend the money as she saw fit. ’Perhaps a shower would do my justice,’ she thought as she ran a hand through her bed head. She had half a mind to change back into her own clothes, but figured she left Altair waiting long enough. Tossing her phone back on the bed, she made her way back to the Bennett sisters. Noticing the hungover blonde, Rachael sat next to the fire girl and held the small bottle towards her. ”For the indisposed.” Rachael tipped her own mug back and relished the feeling of the bitter hot drink.

Altair was lucky they were sisters sometimes. She was no prude but she'd be a lot less tolerant if they didn't share the same blood, that bond of twinship that couldn't be broken. Rolling her eyes, she said, "Seriously, Al, enough out of you." She felt like a mother sometimes. God knows their own mother hadn't been around to scold either of them for a long time. She cast a look at Rachael. "Ugh, not you, too. Forget the arsenic, do we have any bleach? Maybe I can drink it straight and cleanse that from my memory." She wasn't as bothered as she claimed to be, though there was something a bit strange about knowing your sister's sexual business. They were identical and there were some things she'd prefer that Altair didn't share with her.
A dry, short laugh rose from her throat at the comment. It was true, the apartment was tiny. Wonder what she thinks of it. Bringing a friend over for the first time was always an uncertain experience. Were they being judged for the faded carpet or the fact that the walls peeled around the window? The Fire didn't seem like she cared but Ro cared and it was hard for her to believe others wouldn't.
She shrugged it off, deciding that it didn't matter as long as their guest didn't say anything. "Any time." She shot her sister a smile and preoccupied herself with filling her own plate before dumping the pan into the sink and running water over it. She hated doing the dishes when things dried into the plates. Hearing Altair call out from the living room, she was quick to reply, "Here's a test for you—hit that nice red button called power and tell me if you hear voices. If you do, we paid the bloody bill." Sarcasm aside, she answered more seriously, "Pretty sure I paid it, yeah." Or was that the previous month's bill? She strode into the room and saw that the TV was on and working so she concluded that her memories could be trusted.
Rachael took a little longer than five seconds to return with the pills and so Rowena's blue eyes fixed on her when she strode back into the room. "Did you get lost? The pills weren't exactly hidden." She better not have gone through my stuff. Typical Ro, refusing to trust other people with anything but the most basic of tasks. "You gonna stick around a while then?" She recognised that Rachael was wearing something belonging to her sister and so figured the answer was probably 'yes'. She was fine with that, she supposed. Rachael was all right.

Altair rolled her eyes at her sister. Unfortunately, that did well to make her headache worse, and she reminded herself to never ever do that again under any circumstances. So it took her a beat before she was finally able to say, "Such a prude." And she vowed off longer strings of words because her mouth was incredibly dry, even as she downed some coffee. She just felt so incredibly wonderful.
She wrinkled her nose at Ro's reply to her question. So lucky I'm hungover, ya little brat. Though she was right, of course, but she just wanted to make sure. "See, you could have given me that answer without the tude, babe." Altair said it lightly as possible with her current incapacitated state, and began nibbling on the bacon. Hopefully her stomach would cooperate.
Altair turned on the television, and finding that it indeed worked, lowered the volume as much as possible while still being audible. Rachael arrived back just in time with the bottle, and at that moment a choir of angels must have been singing.
She struggled with the child lock for a moment before getting it open. "Much appreciated." Popping four into her mouth, she washed them down with the coffee she had set next to her feet. "Bacon?" she offered, about as polite as she could get when being a host. She waited for the answer on the matter of whether Rachael would be staying.
