(this is just the start of this school year, on the first day of school. :3)
Chris really wasn't a fan of kids, so honestly, the fact that she'd chosen to take up a teaching position at the Academy was... a little bit of a weird one, and one that she was sure people didn't really understand. She'd needed a job, though. This had been the easiest thing -- she'd started trying for it during the second semester of her Senior year, just last year, and sure enough she'd gotten her position in the Math department. Now, she would be looking forward to at least a year, probably several more, of teaching kids the equation of a slope and how to tell the difference between a parabola and a wheelbarrow. Luckily for Chris, she was good at Math and, actually, pretty good at teaching in general, so long as she didn't lose her patience. Perhaps unluckily for her... well, it meant being stuck around high schoolers all day, and after eight solid years of that, one would think that she'd have gotten sick of it already. Whiny bitch kids. She could suck it up and deal with it for a solid paycheque though, and it was honestly a really sweet deal for a girl who was fresh out of college to be able to start making money right away for... well, not doing anything difficult. Well, she'd observed teachers before, so she imagined that actually, dealing with students could be a tiny bit difficult and stressful, but other than that, she didn't believe there was any huge problem. The girl knew her math, despite what people may have thought about her personality-wise. It wasn't really her fault if everyone around here was soft.
It was her first day on the job, though. There had been staff meetings and things like that before, sure, times when she'd met with her co-workers and done things related to work, but it was her first day actually standing in front of actual students and teaching. Chris didn't get nervous, though, and this was no exception. She wasn't about to let some thirty-something kids annoy her. She had a class of every grade this semester, actually, which was kind of amusing in a way. The first day didn't have to do with much actual Math, of course. She handed out textbooks, messed around a little bit with the niners (by telling them that they would probably be sucked into a one-way-only wormhole if they ever got lost in the castle), and essentially laid down the general classroom law. Chris was okay with having fun, and she was seriously that type of person -- she tossed around jokes with the students (except for perhaps the timid-looking ninth grade class). She also sent them off with the warning not to do anything stupid in her class, though. Chris wasn't really what most people would consider a nice person, and those kids had better not even consider crossing her. She didn't want to have to make things messy -- she was getting paid for this now, after all. "Okay. Don't be late tomorrow and don't forget your textbooks," she said to her ninth graders as they shuffled out of the room. "And watch out for those wormholes." Pfft, there was no such thing around here, but they didn't have to know that. It was now third period -- she'd had two of her classes already -- and now... time for yet another class. She glanced at her schedule despite already having pretty much memorized it. Twelfth graders? Fun, she thought as they started wandering in from the hallway. She recognized a good amount of them too -- she'd been a student just last year, and truthfully, these guys weren't all that much younger...

It had already been a long morning. It started off with waking up the sound of an alarm clock that screamed loudly in his ears. He hated that damn thing with a passion. Since Morgan vanished sleep had been somewhat difficult and the night before was no exception. It was not as bad as the previous nights but even so hearing the alarm tell him that morning had arrive and it was time for school was something he dreaded. After getting dressed and dragging himself downstairs, he was confronted with a lovely argument with Adam. "You really ought to stop moping around like a whiny bitch," The young Fire student stated flatly, eating his breakfast. There were times that, even though Adam lived in the dorms, he would come home and see Molly. The boy was an ass but loved his mother. "And you need to shut the fuck up and stay occupied with your breakfast," The Wind snapped back, feeling a bit on edge this morning. He stuffed his face and quickly left the house without much of a word to his younger brother. Adam could very well take the bus this morning. Asher was in no mood to deal with him today. Instead he made a jog to the school, backpack in tow, and arrive a few minutes before the first class. The first two class periods passed by rather slowly, leaving Asher to zone out and think about the car parts he would need to finish off his Camaro. It was nearing completion; in about a month or two he would be able to drive the damn thing. Finally. He had already made a few calls to find out if he could enter it as a classic model, so long as it was repainted and looked as good as new. Things were beginning to look up in that aspect. A surge of accomplishment welled up in his chest.
"And don't forget to write that essay on poetry analysis!" The teacher called out after the students when the bell rang. Asher was not a fan of English class--he preferred Math and Science above anything else if he had to choose any particular subject(s). He shuffled through the hallway, bumping into a few people and making conversations with them along the way. He was a highly sociable person despite how distant he had been feeling lately and always managed to shove a smile on his face among his friends and acquaintances. Only Karlee knew of what happened. Asher sighed and pulled out his schedule, smiling a bit at knowing the next class would be at least a little pleasant. Math class. He found the room number and walked inside. He stopped halfway across the front of the room and blinked. "Chris?" Asher made notice of the teacher and recognized her immediately. The woman had been friends with him for some time, quite a few years actually. He had not spoken with her much recently due to life and being busy which was fine of course, but now he was stunned to see her sitting behind the teacher's desk. "I didn't know you were working here? When did this happen?" He approached the desk and adjusted his bookbag on his shoulder. "Not that I'm not glad to see you, just...a bit surprised. Didn't really take you for the teacher type." He smiled now, chuckling and joking with her. He always felt he got along decently well with Chris. "So how have things been? Treating you well I hope." Despite being happy to see her, he did feel awkward. His friend was going to be his teacher.

It really shouldn't have surprised Chris that she'd recognize some of the students that she would now have, especially in her twelfth and possibly even eleventh and tenth grades. The niners she couldn't help but treat as new faces, of course, and she'd already seen that she wouldn't be opposed to making fun of them a little too -- only in the most harmless of ways, unless any of them seriously believed that they were going to be sucked into wormholes and never heard from again. If they were stupid enough to believe that, Chris was pretty sure, they wouldn't have lasted long in her class anyway. She had no intentions of being a stupidly hard teacher, but she wasn't going to let them dick around, either. They could suck that up. Those were ninth graders she meant, though, and quite frankly she couldn't imagine that she'd have had any twelfth grade classes in which she didn't recognize at least one or two of them. There was a little bit of an age gap, sure, but she'd been a college student just last year. Talking to eleventh graders and the like wasn't too much of a stretch. Still... she hadn't been close with many. She recognized a couple of the faces coming in, now, but she wasn't able to match most of them up with names, though several of them did do a double take and she was pretty sure she heard someone whisper her name -- Chris, that was, not Miss Smith or anything. When one in particular walked in, though, she did raise her eyebrows a little bit -- in interest, not disbelief or anything -- and wave. "Oh, Asher! Hey, what's up?" Well, at least that was one less name to remember. (She had seen three Jamies so far. She remembered none of their faces.)
She stood up to talk to him more properly, she supposed, but she should probably also address the class soon. Of course, they hadn't officially started yet and wouldn't for a few minutes, so she probably had a bit of time yet. Chris rolled her eyes a little at his comment, but not in an actually annoyed way. She was kidding... and she liked to mess with people a little bit. It kept things fresh or something like that. "What, because I'm not boring? Hopefully not, anyway," she said, but she had no real doubt that she wouldn't be boring. It wasn't only the students who'd get bored, after all. She kind of liked to keep things interesting for herself and other people too. "Though nah... we haven't talked in a while, have we? I found out just in November, actually. Before final exams." She'd applied for the actual position several months before that, though, and it had taken them until nearly the end of the school year to get back to her for sure -- which made sense, of course. She was glad for the position even while she sort of dreaded being stuck teaching basic math things all day. Grade Twelve was at least a little more interesting. "And Asher... I'm pretty much forced to teach high schoolers all day now, how do you think it's going?" she asked, but she was kidding... mostly. It was still partly true. She was doing pretty awesomely though, in reality, apart from the usual grind of hating teenagers and people in general. "Don't tell any of your other teachers I said that. Things are alright! How are you?"

Asher flashed Chris a bright smile when she acknowledged who he was--not that he expected her to forget or anything, but it had been a little while. It made him happy that she did not give him some sort of strange, 'who the fuck are you?' type stare. He shrugged lightly and tilted his head to the side a little as a sort of prelude to, "Not too much! Doing the school thing y'know. Being a diligent student and going to classes and all that." Asher was actually a driven person by nature and could not recall being late to class in the past year or so. Multi-tasking might not have been his strong suit but being on time was fairly simple for him. That was, so long as he got up and went straight to school instead of stopping at the auto shop. Greg always had to keep track of the time for him to make sure he got to school on time. He stopped focusing on his friend/professor in order to say hello to a few of his friends who wandered into the classroom after he did. Well, not really friends, more acquaintances but close enough. Asher did not have many people he kept close. Defense mechanisms and all that. The Wind tilted his head back a bit and chuckled when he turned back to face Chris, looking amused. Ever the one to thrive on playful banter, he replied, "Oh my god Chris you are the most dragging person I've ever met. You suit the position perfectly." His smile disarmed any possibility that he was serious. At least he hoped so. Most of what Asher said was hardly ever serious. Fortunately he had a hard time keeping a straight face for too long so people could usually tell when he was teasing.
He gave Chris a sort of half-frown and shook his head, now realizing it had been a while since he talked to her. However, he never did claim to be the most adept at keeping contact with people. No offense to them of course. He was just easily distracted and forgot. "It's definitely been a while. Probably a bit too long, actually. Sorry about that." He rubbed the back of his head in shame, but still had a small smile on his face. "But congrats! Are you just going to be teaching math, or did you manage to be one of those crazy people who took on multiple subjects?" More power to those people, he thought. Asher was not really teacher material though so that would certainly make that difficult. Even when it came to cars, teaching someone about them was no easy venture. He passed her a smirk and glanced over at some of the other students sitting down and preparing themselves for class. "Aw, come on Chris we aren't that bad! At least I'm not. I'm a good student." Asher pointed at himself and lifted his eyebrows, as though expecting her to challenge this. He actually was when he set his mind to it. It was setting his mind that was the hard part. Fortunately Molly and Greg helped him stay on track pretty well. He pressed his finger to his lips at her request, then pretended to turn a key as though locking them and then tossing it aside. "Consider it erased from my memory." A fellow student clapped him on the shoulder and greeted him with a friendly smile. Asher smiled back and nodded. "I'm doing pretty good! Still balancing school and work at the shop. Oh, and the Camaro is only a few months away from being done!" Carmen, as he dubbed it now thanks to Nell, was his baby and most people he knew, knew of his car.

The side she knew best of Asher was a kid who liked to run around and do whatever the fuck he felt like doing -- things that most people would probably shy away from immediately -- so it was kind of hilarious to hear him say that he was being a diligent student. She didn't actually doubt it, though. Whatever he did in his free time, school was probably different. She hoped it was, anyway. It wouldn't do to skip her class just to go skydiving or something... She'd probably make sure he paid if he actually did that, but it was mainly because her teachers had given her a hard time too. Hey, that was how it went. "Yeah, life of a student," she said, grinning a little bit in understanding. "Yeah, I don't miss that at all. How was break, though?" It was only the first day back, after all. Surely he wasn't up to his neck in schoolwork yet. She just rolled her eyes at his response, but she'd probably have taken more offence if there were even a chance that it was some kind of serious accusation. He was smiling too much for it to be legit, though, and besides which, she knew it wasn't true. Please. Chris was many things but not boring. "That's Miss Smith to you," she said, pointing a would-be stern finger at him, but she was smiling a little. It was definitely going to be a little weird. "Nah, Chris is okay. Just don't get me in trouble or whatever with the other teachers." Technically he really shouldn't call her by her first name, but dude, he'd known her as that first! It didn't make sense to her otherwise. "And don't test me, I'm sure you wouldn't like it if I actually made this class really boring for you." She wouldn't really. That would be boring for her too.
She just shook her head at his frown. "Because keeping in touch with people is a one-sided thing, right?" She shrugged. It was a rhetorical question, but the answer was an obvious "no". "It's no big deal." She didn't mind so much, honestly -- she knew how Asher was, and it wasn't like she was going to hold it against the guy. This was what she was saying in a relatively good mood, though. Chris tended to change her tune once she got angry about something... which, knowing her, could actually happen at any moment in time. Besides all of this, though, she also knew that if they hadn't talked in a while, it was her fault just as much. She managed to keep in contact with close friends, but it didn't bother her to fall a little out of touch with slightly more distant friends. This wasn't to say she considered Asher a stranger or anything. "Thanks! It's definitely nice not to have to worry about finding a job or anything now." That was definitely an issue for many college graduates, all over, not necessarily at the Academy. "Just math for now, but who knows... I guess technically I could probably teach high school level Law and stuff like that too." Criminology was the other of her two majors, after all. "Yeah, I'll hold you to that promise later in the semester. Better not slack off in my class," she said, more amused than actually threatening. "Oh yeah, the Camaro! Dude... I'm jealous." She really was, too. Her car wasn't bad or anything, but it was nothing especially... shiny.

Asher shook his head a little bit, pretending to lament over the fact that he had to be diligent and focused on school. "A life that is...okay I guess." Not that school was awful, but recently his mind had been a bit scrambled by outside-of-school drama and it was a major distraction. "Break was good! Got some hours in at the shop and spent time helping my brother get his stuff sorted out for school." Of course most people who knew Asher knew Adam, but he figured Chris was not aware of the fact that he was actually an elemental. "Adam goes here now. I don't know if you'll have him in your class but...good luck." The young Fire was certainly a handful and loved to cause chaos with his fellow students and the teachers alike. If he could step over the boundary, he would. Asher was not particularly fond of the fact that there were times when people would go 'oh, so you're Adam's older brother, huh?' and they seemed put out by that fact. So annoying. The boy smiled at her and ducked his head a bit at the correction to her name. "Can I just call you Miss Chris or something?" He asked innocently. He was not opposed to tacking on the formal title or anything but the last name made it feel so...professional. It was hard for him to alter from friendship to teacher/student. Maybe if they had only known one another for a couple of months it would be different but it had been longer than that. "Then that way it won't feel too weird and it'll save you from dealing with the other teachers." A simple compromise, it seemed. He tossed his hands up in defeat and drew his head back at her threat. The smile was still present. "I wouldn't like that much at all. So this is me not testing you." He laughed a little.
No, friendships were never meant to be one-sided, but Asher was not about to accuse his friends of being the reason for the distance. He knew how he was and would much rather pin it on himself first and foremost. Saved from having an argument at any rate. "If you're sure." He replied, shrugging a little. "It'll be kinda hard to hang out after school now though, y'know with you being teacher and all." Before Asher would have offered to maybe go and get a drink or something of the sort but now things had to be a bit different. People always made the wrong assumptions when they saw a student and teacher out in public together, never mind the fact that they were friends before that. No one took that into consideration. "You're welcome! Having a secure job is always a good thing nowadays. The economy is pretty shit right now." It was never perfect but finding jobs were growing more difficult to obtain. Even people with degrees were struggling. They had a better chance at the position but it was no easy venture. Asher raised an eyebrow in interest. "High school Law huh? That would be pretty sweet! I would take that class if I could." He had a rather quirky set of interests and certain things piqued it at random times. He was not sure if he could ever use a Law class in the future but it would definitely be something new. A good change of pace. The Wind waved her off. "No slackage here. I'll get my stuff done." Even if it meant having his mom and Greg keep him on track and ensure he did not get to distracted at the shop. Really, where would he be without them? Asher smirked and wiggled his brows. "Such a sexy beast of a car." Thinking for a moment, he added, "Oh, and if you ever need any repair-work done I'll be glad to do it for you. Friend discount and all." Greg usually didn't mind.

Okay, Chris wasn't going to lie, being a student wasn't that bad. Students had pretty few responsibilities all in all, apart from getting their homework done and shit. She could see why they thought it was a bad deal, though -- she'd always thought so too, at least until her Senior year (of college, not even high school) when she'd realized that, oh fuck, she wasn't going to be a student much longer. There was way too much that went along with that. It was probably part of the reason that pushed her to apply for this position -- that and the convenient knowledge that the Academy would be needing another Math teacher this year. Knowing things like that paid off. "Definitely not too bad, but everyone's different. Some people like being an adult and old," she said, making a face as if she really thought that. She was just... a little old, okay? Well, she was older than all of her students, obviously. "Adam, huh?" Then it kind of dawned on her. "Oh jeez, Grade Nine, isn't he?" It made sense now. She was pretty sure he was a Rizzo too, or at least she remembered someone having that last name, but Chris definitely didn't know all her students' names yet. "Yeah, he's quite a character. Kid better stay in line." Chris didn't like to take bullshit. It had only been a day, but she was already pretty sure that he was some kind of troublemaker... She just didn't really know to what extent yet, but if Adam wanted to underestimate her, he'd better pray to all his sentient beings. She didn't say this to Asher, though. That just seemed horribly unprofessional. Chris laughed a bit. "Miss Chris? So rhyme-y. Whatever you want's fine," she said, shrugging a little. "As long as your brother doesn't catch on or something." She was much more forgiving of the twelfth graders, like Asher, because a small but good-sized amount of them had known her beforehand. The younger kids didn't have an excuse at all.
She just nodded her approval when he said that he wouldn't test her. "Good kid." He wasn't even really that much younger than she was, but Chris was like that. This whole being in a kind of sort of position of power was kind of hilarious for that reason. She was sure that in a couple of months (or weeks or even days) these kids would be wondering who the fuck had decided to give her any kind of authority. Oh, kids. If only they knew. It didn't really matter to Chris -- she just thought she was fucking awesome. "Yeah, I know. The things we do for jobs." She rolled her eyes a little as if to say that a job and money were totally unnecessary things, but unfortunately Chris was too... realistic to really believe that this was true. "You can drop by any time you want, though. Bonus points if you bring me food." She flashed a grin. Chris probably shouldn't be getting students to bring her food -- especially since everyone would just think that it was bribery or something -- but it was (mostly) a joke. "Yeah, unfortunately I think it'd fall under jurisdiction of the Social Sciences teachers and all," she said, but she shrugged. "I'll just stay over here in the Math corner or something." It was a lonely corner to be in sometimes. People tended to hate numbers and shit. Luckily for Chris, she didn't care much for the approval or acceptance of the general public. She liked her friends and all, but all in all, many people were just seriously stupid. "I'm counting on that discount, but I'd pay you extra to get to drive that thing when you're done with it," she said with a kind of wicked grin. Then she glanced at the clock on the wall, however, and then at the rest of the students in the room. If anyone was still missing, they were definitely late. "Guess I should start class, though... Take a seat wherever." She waved a hand to indicate the couple of empty seats still left in the room.
(if you want we can skip to after class or something? or whatever you want, lol. XD i just figured they wouldn't have like, 43289 hours before class started.)

Asher smiled at her and shook his head a little bit. “Being old and being an adult are two totally different things,” He held up two fingers and waggled them a little bit for emphasis. “Being old is finally accepting that you have no idea how to have fun anymore. Being an adult just adds a little responsibility to life.” And he had to take on responsibility quite early on in life when Collin had been tossed in jail. He left Molly alone to fend for herself and their two sons, one of which had the fiery temperament of a volcano and the mouth of a sailor. The woman was a saint, really. Asher had no idea how she managed. “Yeah he’s grade nine. A bit of a fireball.” That was probably the understatement of the century. Adam really was one of the biggest handfuls he has ever had to deal with. He felt bad for Chris, having to deal with that in the classroom. Home was one thing, but in front of other students? Nuh. “If he falls out of line feel free to just…beat some sense into him or something. Then let me know and I’ll have a talk with him too.” And by ‘talk’ he meant a verbal and physical confrontation about Adam’s attitude towards his teachers.
Being an informal person, and not one to give professional titles to the people he considered friends, it was a bit difficult to stop and consider Chris to be his teacher. To call her ‘miss’ and look at her as someone higher up than him. It wasn’t a bad thing, just weird. “I was a poet and didn’t know it~” He sang a little with a chuckle, amused. Actually he did not even realize it rhymed until Chris pointed it out and found it funny even if it was not all that hilarious. Asher was fairly easily amused after all. He passed her a sympathetic look, though he was not sure if he should feel sympathy or not. Maybe she wanted this job more than she let on? He didn’t know. “Oh I had already planned on coming by to visit. You know, nag you endlessly and peek over your shoulder and everything.” With a grin he added, “And I’ll bring you food to make up for it.” Perhaps Timmie’s or something down that alley. Food was always good. Asher could eat someone out of house and home, but he was a teenage guy with the metabolism of a cheetah. His high activity levels definitely helped him out there. He shrugged and smiled at her. “The math corner isn’t so bad. I like math.” The boy thumbed at himself. It was not something he went babbling about to people—the boy rarely ever discussed much about himself—but hey, Chris was a friend and a math teacher. It couldn’t hurt.
“Is that a challenge?” Asher asked with a mirrored grin. “You know I’ll do just about anything once.” There was a glint in his eye, one that said he was eager to find something fun and exciting to do. The kid was a natural dare devil; he would scale cliff sides, hike waterfalls, bungee jump off of a bridge and into a chasm with sharp rocks at the bottom. None of that bothered him in the least. He nodded to her and found himself a place to sit. It was no shock that he retained his focus for a little while, and then drifted off in thought. Chris’s voice could be heard in the background but it was muffled. At least the writing on the board did not leave him totally lost. When the bell rang, the Wind packed up his things and approached his friend. “Not too bad teach. Maybe I’ll be able to cope with at least one of my classes this year.” And he said that with a chuckle, because it was both true and teasing at the same time.

"Right," she said, rolling her eyes a little but grinning as she did so. "Well, hopefully I haven't forgotten how to have fun, but I don't know... This whole Math teacher thing." Plus, as far as Chris was concerned, there was nothing fun about being an adult with responsibilities and all that. Well, at least Asher seemed sure of himself. Chris hadn't had particular responsibility throughout her youth or anything, but that definitely was not what youth was for in her opinion, so that was all fine. She had turned out alright, hadn't she? There was no need to rush through life. "Fireball for sure," she said, quirking a brow, not sure if the entire reference to Adam's being a Fire had been intentional or not, but she would go with it. "Well... I doubt that'd be necessary, I can put him back in line." She had no shortage of confidence. "He might hate me afterward if he even tried, though. Not in his best interest." Chris was so not going to be pushed around by a bunch of kids.
She gave him an amused look. "Great, I love having people nagging me and looking over my shoulder everyday." Then again... fuck, those two things were both pretty much main points of being a teacher, weren't they? She was already starting to get a headache just thinking about it. It was for the money... money and experience, paying off bank loans, that type of thing. This definitely wasn't where she planned to stay for the rest of her life or anything, and if she could say so herself, she was pretty sure she was smart enough to get further than just teaching kids the equation of a line and shit like that. "At least there's food though." She hadn't really known that he liked math, but hey, there were surprising things in everyday life. People wouldn't really guess that she did either, or that she was even smart enough for fucking numbers, judging by how she acted sometimes. "Good. Could use more kids like you around here. All of these kids with their useful skills and stuff... Everyone knows parabolas are key to life." She was very well-versed in sarcasm, too.
Class over and done with, she was happy to see that Asher re-approached. It was one of Christina's planning periods now, so she had time to talk if he did -- she waved bye to some of the other students, calling after them the usual ("Don't forget your textbook, don't be late tomorrow, don't call me Mrs., I'm not married and old!") before turning back to him. It was going to be weird teaching her friends, sort of. They weren't as close as she would have been with, obviously, the people she'd had classes with and spent many more years with, but she knew Asher... fairly well, too. "You'll do better than cope if you want to stay afloat in this class," she said, joking, but it was half-true. Grade Twelve was usually pretty painful for everyone, and she even liked Math! "But no need to be surprised. I am halfway-qualified to teach this, you know." She smirked a little.

Asher, though he had taken on a lot of responsibility at a young age, still had a drive to have fun and enjoy life to the fullest. Even when he became an adult he knew for a fact that the world would essentially be one big playground. The equipment would be an upgrade from the sandbox and swings but certainly a good source of entertainment for someone like him. He wrinkled his nose a bit, a playful smile on his face. "Aha yeah, being a math teacher takes down your fun meter by at least two levels." He wiggled two fingers at her and chuckled, obviously teasing. He did not know any math teachers outside of Chris (and even then they were not extremely close nor had he had her as a teacher) and so he really had nothing to back up his reasoning. Asher was hardly ever serious about those sorts of things anyway.
"I'm sure you can," He agreed, knowing that if you had the right personality Adam had the potential to be somewhat manageable. Chris could handle him. Adam could be a real asshole sometimes and even admitted that a lot of the time he did it just to see who could handle him. The temper was unavoidable though. Fire and all. "He hates a lot of people so that wouldn't be new news. The kid really is just a grumpy old man in disguise." Asher waved it off with a small chuckle, not at all phased by his brother's attitude. He lived with it for fourteen years after all. "But my mom likes to keep track of him so if you could at least keep me updated on his grades and stuff? My mom would be grateful." Since Chris was a friend he did not hesitate to request this of her.
He flashed the teacher a smile, one that looked a bit mischievous. "Great! Then I'll be sure and add it to my daily routine." Nah, he wouldn't actually do that. If someone loomed over his shoulder while he tried to work on a car there would surely be a bit of a confrontation on Asher's end. It was so distracting! "Food does make everything better, though." Always. A good home cooked meal solved all issues, big and small. At least they did for him when it was Molly. Asher always told her she should be a chef.
Asher was not an extremely sarcastic person but with some people it was easy to tell when they were making a dry remark of sorts. Made it simple for him to roll with the person he was talking to at the very least. "Right? I woke up this morning and though that my day would not be complete without parabolas." And now it was because he had had his math class for the day. How fulfilling.
The class was no where near as boring as some of the other subjects he would have to suffer through during the day, but he was anxious to be up and moving around again. Asher did not do well sitting still for too long; it was amazing he was able to do decently well in school considering this. He fidgeted a lot. Drifted in thought. All that good shit. The Wind rolled his eyes playfully and passed her a bright smile. "Yes, Miss Chris," He saluted. "I'll do better than cope. I'm going to get over one hundred percent in this class. Even if it's not possible. Because I'm that awesome." That was not going to happen but even so he did display his confidence. Asher had a lot of confidence in himself and his abilities; if only he could apply himself a little more and learn how to split his time up effectively between school, work, and home. At least Chris was his friend; maybe she could help him stay on track, at least in this class. That would be one subject he could manage. He feigned concern. "Only halfway qualified?" He repeated, raising an eyebrow. "I'm a bit concerned. You at least know the difference betwen Pi and Pie, right? So long as you have that down pat, I think we can manage." Pi sounded really crunchy, and not appetizing in the least. He was craving a slice of apple pie though.

At this point, Chris kind of relished her days off, when she could just go... away, away from her job, and back to what she had done before becoming a teacher in the first place. This was mostly just hanging out with friends, shit like that. She couldn't party quite as much anymore now that she had this job and all. It would be weird if she ran into students or something, not that they should be anywhere close to the same parties she'd gone to, but she never could tell. She was literally just out of college. She was at least safe in the knowledge that those kids could not get into bars, and if they could... well, they weren't likely to be announcing their presences to her. "How many levels are there on this thing? Because I'm pretty sure I'm still pretty high on that ranking." Status as a Math teacher be damned, Chris was awesome.
She had plenty of experience dealing with assholes. As a Wind, she'd had a multitude of friends (still did, really, even if she had to be a boring adult now or something), all from various elements. It was whoever could deal with her, and whoever she could put up with in return. There had been a couple of real jerks thrown into the mix, too, but Chris took it all in stride -- but it wasn't like her best friends were assholes or anything. She wasn't that good. Chris was pretty adept at getting along with the jerks of the universe though, apparently. She was kind of one of them herself. "Ooh, fun, grumpy old men that look like fourteen-year-olds," she said, grinning in amusement. Well... she didn't know how accurate that would be. "Sure, I'll pass along the message. Does that mean he can't be trusted to tell his own mom how he's doing in class himself if I give him the update?" To be fair, she'd never bothered telling her parents either unless it was report card time, but her marks had never been bad enough to warrant a serious discussion about it, so there had never been a point.
She'd probably just punch a dude in the face if he actually decided to come hang out over her shoulder all day, but then again, she liked Asher. He was pretty cool -- they had always gotten along despite the age difference, something that didn't usually make much of a difference to her... except that now she had graduated and become his teacher. That was seriously weird. She supposed that it was an extra reason not to hit the kids, though -- she'd be fired for sure. She could control herself better than that. Then again, she'd gotten into a few fights in her day. "You'd be in so much trouble with me if you actually did that," she pointed out, but she wasn't that serious. He probably didn't actually want to annoy her, though. "There you go," she said, nodding. "Don't need all that other stuff, just the Pythagorean Theorem." She knew that people typically thought Math was useless, though, and she acknowledged the fact that pretty much nobody was ever going to need to calculate a parabola in everyday life... Nope. She was going to teach that shit anyway.
She laughed a bit at his salute. It was at least good to hear that he didn't seem to hate the class, but then again he apparently hadn't been bad at Math in the first place. Apparently she'd learn things about him now that she was a teacher, though. It wasn't exactly like she and Asher had sat around discussing classes before, pfft. There were always so many better things to be doing. "One hundred percent, huh? Well, you're definitely getting a phone call home if you get anything less, then," she stated decisively. She would never actually do that, though. She doubted she would make phone calls home, period, unless the kids were actually doing really horribly. "Yes, Asher," she said, sounding exasperated even though she wasn't. "A pie is circular. Pi is what you use to calculate the area of that circle." That was a good one. She should write that shit down to tell her students later or something, because she knew that one of them was going to write "pie" one of these days... She would be ready when that time came.
Now she sounded like a Math dork. Fuck.

"Well..." Asher looked thoughtful, tapping at his chin a little bit. "I assume, like most of these level-type things, there's about ten of them. So if you were at level ten before then...y'know subtract two and you're at eight." His smile was bright as he looked at her, chuckling to display that he was merely joking around. Then again, Chris might have known that he was teasing. Asher liked to live his life on the surface. It kept him safe. The past was not something he liked to discuss, as well as much of anything pertaining to himself. Surface living was a safe bet.
Adam was, in short, an asshole. Asher had learned to cope, as had many of his 'friends' and of course his mother. Asher considered them 'friends' because he was not quite sure what they were. They put up with Adam and his personality but was not quite sure if they would stick around forever. Who knew though? Someone might be able to deal with it on a daily basis and not be the least bit phased. More power to them, Asher thought. "I guess it's even weirder to consider that he is a fourteen year old," Asher thought on this, amused. "Maybe some random old guy infiltrated his body and took over. That would be really fucked up." Even now the image was rather disturbing and Asher fought back a small shudder. He passed Chris a nod and shoved a hand in his pocket. "Thanks! No, he can't really be trusted. The kid will avoid answering questions pertaining to his grades as long as possible." More like lie about them, but that was beside the point. Adam respected Molly to a certain extent but he was a typical kid and if his grades were not above par then there was no doubt he would dodge his mother's questions like bullets. "But if his grades are good it's no problem!" He would just appreciate being kept in the loop if bad grades came into the picture.
Asher shrugged and did not really look phased by her threat, because he obviously had no intentions of giving her any trouble. He may have a hard time balancing work and school and occasionally drifted off in thought while in class, but he would not disrespect a teacher. "Yeah I know. Maybe I just like to live on the edge. You know, push my limits." Haha yeah right. The only area of life he enjoyed pushing his limits was when it came to his sports and his cars. Asher tapped the side of his head and closed an eye. "The world wouldn't be the same without it!" What would they do without the Pythagorean Theorem?
"You are so cruel to me!" The boy whined, though the smile gave away that he was not the least bit serious. "Do you know what mom would do to me if she found out that I got like...a ninety-nine? She would be devastated. Heartbroken." He placed a hand over his heart. So dramatic. Maybe I should take up drama class or something. That might actually be right down his alley. Hm. He would have to look into that later. He pointed at her and made an "oooh" type noise. "That's a good one! I look forward to you using that in class one day." And when she did, he would be there to give her a thumbs up. Asher hoisted up his backpack and looked down to check his phone. He blinked a couple of times and set it back into his pocket. "Looks like I have about two minutes to get to my next class before I'm considered late." And the last time he was late the teacher was not happy. "I'll see you tomorrow Miss Chris! Good luck with the rest of your classes." Waving her off, the Wind wandered off out of the classroom with a brief wave to his friend and math teacher. It was going to be weird, but not bad.

Chris smirked. "Let's be real though, I mean," she started, "Math teacher or not, I'm always at level ten." Fuck yeah she was. People could probably say that Chris had confidence issues, but a lack of it was definitely not one of them. She had enough self-confidence to pass some out to every single person on Earth and still have plenty left over or something like that. Too bad that shit wasn't actually tangible. She could probably sell it for good profit.
She quirked a brow at Asher's theory. "What, like he was abducted by old man aliens or something?" Actually... that would be kind of hilarious in a way, like some kind of really bad straight to video movie that would have come out a good number of years ago. Abducted by Grandpa, starring Adam Rizzo. That was just stupid. Then again, Chris was the one who'd thought of it. "Nah," she decided after thinking on it for a second. "I think he's definitely more like a kid with a bad attitude than he is like an old man." She knew all about kids with bad attitudes, after all. She didn't even bat an eyelash when he said that Adam wasn't to be trusted with his grades. Somehow that wasn't surprising in the least. "Is he usually any good at math, do you know?" she asked, mostly out of curiosity. As it was just the first day of school, she had no idea about these things.
Chris had decided, not that she had even considered doing it any other way, that she would definitely be fair about her marking. She knew that she'd know a couple of her older students, age difference be damned. Even then, she was a teacher now, and there was no playing favourites... not when it came to grades, anyway. Asher would get his perfect score if he earned one. She doubted any student would get perfect in her class -- but there always was the one genius or something, and several people would probably come close. "Sorry to hear that, I never meant to tear your family apart," she replied without missing a beat, looking completely serious as if this actually was a matter of the gravest importance. "But you get the mark you deserve!" She smiled. People really should never encourage her to use such awful Math puns, but damn it all, she was just going to have to now. What was the point of teaching Math otherwise? She glanced at the clock once she saw him (presumably) checking the time on his phone, and nodded. She had to get ready for her next class too. "Bye, Asher! You too, have a nice day!" Man, she sounded so teacher-y when she said that. It was a weird feeling, but Chris figured that this was the type of thing she'd have to get used to from now on.
