Ashton loved hanging around in the Earth dormitories. It was like having a huge family and living in a house with every single one of them, really. That was how he viewed the Earth elementals, after all. Family. 'Ohana, as Lilo would say. Some of them didn't even live in the dormitories and just hung around the common room so that they could chat with like-minded people. He liked that, liked the way that they could be here for reasons other than being forced into the room. The common room was fairly empty that night, though, because it was getting late and a lot of people were going to bed. There was just one problem, and that was the fact that Ashton wasn't tired. It was always the worst feeling, to be the last one awake when everyone else was snoozing around you. It wasn't that late, not a ridiculous time, but all of the studying seemed to have drained the life out of people. He'd... well, to be honest, Ashton had put off studying. Again. Maybe that was why he didn't feel the debilitating effects of it quite so much as his fellow Earths. Erm, oops? Oh well. He'd live. They'd live, too.
Deciding that he was either going to pull an all-nighter or just crash right here on the slightly lumpy but still quite comfortable couch, Ashton pulled out his phone and played with it in his hands as he was planning. What to do, what to do? I want something to eat. That's when he got the idea. An hour later, Ashton had returned from Maple Hollow with a bag full of all the sweets, candy, and soda that he could carry without breaking his arms in the process. Having a job and money of his own was still a fairly foreign concept for the Earth elemental and so he didn't yet realise that blowing over twenty bucks on a load of junk food was not the wisest idea. Oh well. He'd get there in the end, maybe. Possibly. Probably not. This was Ashton, after all. He laid out his purchase on the knotted wooden table. Chips, chocolate, candy, sodas, energy drinks, licorice, gummy worms and sour keys. He'd really went all out. Boredom and a craving for junk food could do that to a guy. Ashton didn't usually eat a whole lot of candy. Not at all, really. There were times when he, like all people, got cravings. This was one of those times.
Flopping back onto the couch with an exaggerated air, Ashton took out the phone he'd been messing with earlier and hit the number of his best friend, sending her a text. What's up Anna banana? You'd better not be sleeping ;] Why the nickname? Well, why not. It was common of Ashton to give someone affectionate add-ons to their name if something popped into his head when he was in a good mood. Usually things that rhymed with their name or nickname, like Anna and banana for prime example. The text might have seemed creepy if it had been sent by anyone else but friends of Ashton were usually used to the fact that he wasn't... well, like that. At all. Caaan you come hang out in the dormitories? I'm bored and I want company only you can give. Alright, now he was practically acknowledging his inner creeper. It sounded like he wanted her to have sex with him or something but he really just wanted to stay up all night, eat junk food, and maybe go exploring spontaneously in the middle of the night or some crazy shit like that. He knew Anna lived in the Hollow and so he wasn't sure whether she was actually in the dorms or whether he'd be summoning her to the Academy in the middle of the night on a whim. Some people hung around the school during the final month to study. He was holding out hopes, he supposed?

Studying wasn't something Anna took too very often. While she lived in the hollow, she still came up to the dorms on occasion. Tonight was one of those occasion. She was in the girl's dorms studying with a small group of girls. Or, as it was, less studying and more random chit chat. They had their biology text books out, and where all laying in a circle on the floor and talking. Talking about nothing specific, really. Just chatting. Boys. Drama. All the good stuff that came along with any school. Anna was social and talkative, but wasn't real up in the drama. She made a habit of staying out of it. That was why this was almost good for her. To be caught up on all the drama of all of her fellow classmates. Who didn't love to hear a good who's sleeping with who story. Though she knew half of it probably wasn't true, it was still fun.
She was planning on spending the night in the dorms, so she was already wearing her pajama's, which consisted of a pair of pink Nike running shorts, and a black tank top. Her hair was down, and as it was naturally straight, it actually looked decent. Messy, but she was okay with that. It was just night time anyways. Her phone sounded, announcing a new text message. She grabbed it and flipped it open, a smile coming across her face as she did so. No Ashyyy, I'm actually up in the dorm's "studying" ;] haha.
[/b] She didn't think any of his texts where creepy. Ashton was one of her best friends, so she knew his style of humor. She waited a few moments for him to reply, before sending him a text back. Glad I'm good company ;] Be right down. She replied, before shutting her phone. She didn't have pockets, so she held it in her hand and grabbed her book and shut it. "Sorry girl's something came up. Study session again tomorrow? " She said, smiling brightly before standing up, and tossing the book onto her bed. Though she wasn't here all the time, she still had a bed and some belongings still. Why Ashton wanted to hang out didn't even cross her mind. She didn't mind hanging out and spending time with friends, that was what friends where for right? She walked out into the common room and smiled, plopping down on the couch next to him. "Heyyy." She said, dragging out her words. She glanced at the pile of junk food on the table, and the fact that nobody else was in the common room. "You grow a sweet tooth or what?" She said, smiling at him, before uninvitedly grabbing a gummy worm and taking a bite off it. "You plan on staying up all night and causing some type of mayhem, Amigo?" She questioned, smirking at him a little. The amount of sugar in front of them was enough to keep an elephant awake for a year. [/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

Studying. He grinned as he read the quotes around the word in the text. Ah, he had been there so many times before. Trying to get his work done around his friends could really go either way depending on what sort of friends he was hanging around. Most of his friends were pretty bad for him in the sense that they were just as easily persuaded as he was to find something better to do. He did have a small number of people that really wanted to get some studying done, though, and they were the people he'd call upon if he was desperate. "Studying", huh? Been there, done that. Sounds "fun" ;] Actually it probably was fun in the literal sense and not the sarcastic sense if Lieanna had her friends around. In Ashton's experiences, "studying" could be great fun if there were enough decent distractions around. He usually ended up over at a friend's house eating all of the food in their fridge, playing video games, staying up late for Harry Potter movie marathons, that kind of thing. He slept over at his friends' houses a lot, even the girls' if their parents were alright with it. He knew some parents, even when their kids were in late high school, got iffy about letting teenage males into their daughters bedroom. He could understand that, he supposed, even though his intentions always were innocent and not at all the kind of creepy that a lot of parents were expecting. He didn't do the whole 'bedding without a relationship' thing.
He smiled cheerfully when she confirmed that she would come and hang out with him, glad that he had some company to help him avoid studying just as she had been with her other friends a moment ago. It was also a good thing that she was here and not somewhere else in Maple Hollow. He could have found some other company but that was not quite the same as your best friend. When she plopped down next to him on the couch, Ashton scooted over for a moment to pull her into a sideways hug before moving back over to his own seat on the couch. He was a pretty affectionate guy around his friends, though he never meant anything by it. He loved hugs and since Anna was his best friend he figured she was used to his attitude by now. "Hey, girl, hey," he greeted jokingly with a broad grin. "How you doin'?" He made his voice sound deeper for the sake of the joke, shaking his head a moment later. He could be pretty silly when he wanted to be. Right now it was getting later and there was something about the wee hours of the morning that seemed to make everything ten times funnier than it was earlier. "I'm supposed to be "studying"," he added air quotes with his fingers, "but you're gonna help me get outta that, 'kay? 'Kay."
Sweet teeth. Could you grow them? He didn't think so. "I need the sugar to stay awake," he insisted, stressing the word as if it were the most important one in the English language. "Damn straight! So wait, am I Lucky, Dusty or Ned?" He asked it as if he was serious but he wasn't really. "I wanna be Lucky. Sounds like he's got good... luck, eh?" Puns weren't funny to a lot of people but Ashton thought they were hilarious. It was clear that the sugar he'd already eaten before Anna had gotten here was starting to go to his brain because holy shit he was in a good mood. Not that it was very hard for Ashton to get into a good mood. It was like his 'happiness' was a switch that was stuck heavily in the 'on' function. That was fine by him. He didn't really like feeling down in the dumps. Who did? Optimism and a lot of friends helped him avoid it. "That poor worm, Anna. What about it's family? Think about all the children he left behind..." He took a worm from the bag and popped it into his mouth. "Alas, poor Yorick..."
[... He's silly, ignore him xD]

Anna's parents were not over controlling or anything. She enjoyed the freedom they gave her. She was pretty responsible, though that wasn't to say she didn't get into some trouble. She didn't get into drugs, nor was she into random sleeping around, but she had started drinking a few years back. It wasn't a 'get rid of my problems' type of drinking, it was more of a 'get drunk and have fun' type drinking. She really only drank at parties and with friends, but she enjoyed it. It tended to loosen her up a bit and make her more fun. She thought she was pretty fun anyways, but alchohol made even the most boring people exciting. 'Loads of fun, homie. You know it. [;
[/i] She replied back, before she started making her way towards the common room. She would much rather spend time with Ashton than with a group of random girls. They where her friends, but she had a smaller group of friends that she would rather be with any day. Ashton happened to be one of those people. Anna smiled brightly when he pulled her into a hug. It had been a while since she spent some good quality time with him. She had been spending a lot of time looking for a job and what not, so lately hadn't spent much time just chilling. She liked how friendly he was, and it made her feel good, too. Each of her friends had their own unique greetings. Ashton was definitely a goof ball, but she was used to it. She laughed for a moment, before trying to act serious and crossing her arms across her chest. She leaned back a little bit and popped her chin up, like she was trying to be gangster. It didn't really work for her, as she seemed to be making more of a duck face than a serious face. But when it got late, she couldn't really be serious. "Doin' good my home dog. How 'bout you?" She tried to keep the serious face for a moment before busting into laughter. It didn't last long before she regained her compusure, and looked back at him. "Sorry I had to." Anna understood the studying thing. She was doing the same thing. Nobody ever studied, at least not willingly. Well, that was a lie - lot's of people did. She just didn't understand how they stayed on task. She was fairly smart, at least she thought so. She wasn't worried about not passing her classes. This was her twelfth grade year though, so it was her most important. She was planning on continuing on her education at the academy. She wanted to pursue her music career while also trying to become a nurse. She had high aspirations for herself, and her parents where supportive. Well, about the nursing thing. They pushed her into it. They didn't really support her love of music. "Oh for sure. I can help you out there, broski." She said, a small smirk toying at her lips. She winked at him and brushed some hair from her face. Staying up all night was something she had never actually accomplished. She always ended up falling asleep before she reached that goal. She sort of had the thought brooding now that she hoped he would keep her up all night. It could be fun, right? Not sleeping. "Well guess I better get on this sugar escapade if I'm going to join you in causing mayhem all night, yeah?" She said, smiling at him. She was pretty much up to anything he was up for doing. Whether it be causing mayhem or going exploring. Going exploring actually sounded like it could be fun. "Oh yeah, your the lucky one all right." She chuckled a little and shook her head. "I'll be dusty then, yeah? I think it is suiting." She joked, brushing her cheek as if she was brushing dirt off. She was usually always joking, esspecially around him. As she popped another one of the gummy worms in her mouth, she looked at him innocently. "They will get over it. It's not like their aren't lot's of other worms in the earth." She shrugged, as if it was a serious comment. "Yorick.. you shall be greatly missed. I think we should observe a moment of silence." She said, dropping her chin and closing her eyes for a moment, a smirk still on her face. "But only a moment." She laughed, looking over at him again with a smile. "So master, whats the plan?"[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

Ashton's parents were fairly lenient on him during his years at the Academy, though it was not their choice. He'd lived miles away in a boarding school while they were stuck in Vancouver. He drank socially, he'd tried drugs once (freaked him out a little too much to try it again), he wasn't as naive as his parents probably hoped. Still, he was a fairly good kid. He'd only been arrested once for trespassing on private property and he'd gotten off with a stern warning due to his lack of a criminal record or any previous charges. He grinned when she spoke and would have replied if not for her dissolving into a fit of giggles and interrupting his potential. He did not mind and actually laughed with her, the light dancing in his bright green eyes as he looked at his friend. He loved being able to make others laugh and to laugh himself. When they'd both recovered, he sighed in amusement and drew in a breath. "I'm great," he said, voice taught with the effort to suppress more chuckles. "Really great." He was, it was genuine, he meant every word. After he answered he laughed again, wanting to make sure he'd gotten it all out before he attempted any semblance of real conversation. Man, the two of them just couldn't take themselves seriously, could they?
Ashton nodded, gesturing toward the candy as if opening a showcase. "Take whatever you want." She'd already started helping herself to his gummy worms and so perhaps this was an unnecessary invitation but Ashton didn't care either way. He had friends that would sit with him in the mess hall and eat his lunch with him without so much as a hello and the patient, tolerant Earth elemental never had much complaint. He was a friendly kid who thrived off making others happy and if stealing his food made them happy, well, he could always just get more. Besides, some of them let him steal theirs in return. An eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Hamburger for a pizza, too, apparently. "I think I got some of everything. It's so awesome having money, Anna, seriously." He was still enthusiastic about having got his first job. The novelty of having his own funds hadn't worn off yet. "You dirty girl," he teased, shoving her playfully. He was comfortable joking like that around his friends because they all knew he wasn't like that in reality. Not in the least.
"I ate a worm, once," Ashton said almost conversationally. He was talkative and shared his stories without people ever having to ask him anything. "It was disgusting. These things are deceptive." He poked at the bag of delicious-tasting gummy worms and popped another into his mouth, chewing and swallowing. He'd been taught not to talk with his mouth full. His mother used to slap him upside the head every time he did it and so that had learned him quickly enough. "We should sue for false advertising. Write a letter to the Prime Minister, yeah?" That should be illegal, making poor seven year old Ashton think that all worms tasted like the yummy ones in plastic packaging. Then again, he probably would have ate the thing anyway. It had been a dare and dares were serious business in second grade. If you didn't take it you were a chicken and nobody liked to be the chicken. "Dude, Anna, you thought I had a plan? Come on, now." He laughed, lips spitting into a wide grin. This was Ashton, he never made plans. He was spontaneous and tended to go 'anywhere the wind blows'. "We could grab flashlights and go into the woods," he said. "Unless you're too scared?" Ohoho, a challenge.

Anna wasn't a particularly shy person as it was, no matter who she was around. She wasn't extremely outgoing either, but around her friends, she was. Ashton, being one of her best friends, had the privledge of seeing her at her dorkiest. Es specially when she was tired. That just made things that much more worse. Most people got goofy when they where tired. She was goofy all the time, but it was just worse when she was tired. Her and Nell tended to always act like they where high when they where around one another. Anna hadn't ever actually been high, but she knew the general feeling of silly antics and laughing at absolutly everything. "Well, I'm glad I get to join you in your... being greatness." She said, a smile spreading across her face again.
Anna wasn't shy around her friends, and that included getting into the candy spread out in front of them before Ashton really offered it. Had he been a stranger, she wouldn't have been so up front about it. But as it had it, he wasn't a stranger, not even close, so she did not worry that much about it. "Don't mind if I do." She said, winking at him. She didn't usually eat a lot of sugar and sweets, but was there harm in splurging once in a while? Ice cream though, just so happened to be her weakness. Since there was quite an abundance, she grabbed one of the Monster energy drinks off the table and popped the tab, taking a drink before glancing back at him. "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Just keep bragging why don't you." The smirk on her face hinted that she was joking, even though she rolled her eyes. "I need a job, bad. Would like to get out of my parents house before I'm thirty, know what I mean?" She glanced over at him sideways before taking another drink.
"All day homie. I'm filthy." She joked, shaking her head a little bit. She was fine joking around with Ashton. She didn't take much seriously from him. And the sugar rush they where about to get was about to make this night a whole hell of a lot more fun. Anna shoved him back playfully, careful not to spill the Monster in her other hand. She raised an eyebrow, listening to his story of eating the worm. It brought a smile to her face, the picture of baby Ashton eating a worm. Or maybe not so much of a baby, but to her anything under ten could be considered a baby. At least she was hoping he was under ten when he ate the worm. But knowing him, it could have been last week. "Oh I agree. Let's get on that letter. I'm sure there is many a child out there who has eaten many a worm in response to these things." She said, pointing at the bag of gummy worms, trying to sound somewhat serious. :"But I mean, if you dumped sugar on the real ones..." She smiled over at him, shrugging her shoulders.
Ashton had a point. He didn't ever make plans. "Right. I'm the genius behind this operation. I forgot." She bit at her lip and looked up at the ceiling, as if thinking. Then he spoke again, and she looked back down at him. "Me? Scared?" She laughed a little, and set the Monster on the table, before standing up, and brushing off her shirt. "Never." She smirked a little. There really was not much at all that she was scared of. Well, besides spiders and tight spaces. She grabbed Ashton's wrist and tugged on him a little. "C'mon then. Let's get going." She bit at her lip a little and waited for him. "It's gonna be cold, though. I might freeze and die in this." She said, motioning towards her shorts and tank top. "But it will be worth it, yeah? I can meet Yorick's family, then." She laughed again, and tilted her head to the side a little, letting her hair fall off to one side. "Let's gooo."

[o.o my muse was amazing.]
Ashton grinned back at her, knowing without needing to study her expression and tone that she was joking. That was the good thing about being best friends with a person. Once you'd known them long enough it was all too easy to know your way around a comfortable conversation. "Hell yeah I'm gonna brag!" His green eyes danced with a gleeful sort of light. He didn't really like having to do the boring stuff around the shop like sweeping up when there was nothing else to do and no customers to serve and there were times when his boss had to go somewhere and left him to deal with everything for an hour or so (which freaked him out, having a need for guidance), but he had to admit that the paycheck made it all worth it. Being able to go out to the movies with friends without having to plead to his parents for cash was glorious, though his mother was probably going to make him pay rent soon and that would not be so glorious. "Same, same," he agreed. "College tuition is kicking me in the butt, though. Do you know how much it costs?" He rolled his eyes in an exaggerated manner. Come to think of it Anna probably did know considering they'd forced all the twelfth graders to look over the costs and consider the Academy as an option even if they didn't plan on going. It had helped him, at least.
His gaze glinted almost mischievously when she mentioned sugar and worms. "Don't go giving me ideas!" His scolding tone was akin to that of the one his mother used when tearing into him about being a bad influence on Cameron (which rarely happened, only a few times like when he'd came home late after a party) except it was light and airy, clearly a joke. "I wonder if you can get diseases from worms," he mused. "Wouldn't that suck? 'Hey, Ash, looks like you've contracted the plague. Probably that worm you ate in second grade.'" He wasn't sure why he'd defaulted to the plague and not something like cancer or AIDS or something along those lines but he rolled with it anyway. He lifted his eyebrows when she called herself a genius. "You're our genius? Well, we're fucked." He laughed again. Always laughing, always smiling. The old warning rang in his ears, 'If you keep your face like that for too long, it'll get stuck that way!' He wouldn't mind. Smiling was a good thing, wasn't it? Of course it was. He was always happy. Flapping his arms, Ashton made chicken noises when she said that she wasn't scared. "You sure?" He was only being a troll, though, and he dropped the antics after a couple of seconds. If he'd really thought she was scared he wouldn't have asked. He wasn't a bad guy, really.
He didn't protest to his arm being tugged on, standing up from the couch with the full intentions of tagging along with his best friend. Despite being the Earth leader, he was not always the type to take the lead amongst his group of friends. If they looked to him for guidance then he'd give it as best as he could but he was just as comfortable to tag after someone else, follow their rules, play their game. "Wait, wait," he cautioned, laughing. "I want to take the candy, brah, hold up a sec." If they were going to stay up all night it was a good idea to take 'provisions' with them when they went on their little exploration. He did not take all of the candy (it had been three heavy bagfuls especially with all the cans of energy drink, so he wanted to be careful) but he loaded some of it into one of the bags and then gestured to another. "You should probably take something too. Can't have you falling asleep on me!" There was probably a study about how long it took for Monster's effects to wear off but he didn't care about studies and facts. He liked to experience things for himself. "Then grab a sweater, silly goose," he said, chuckling. "Hypothermia isn't a fun way to go." He doubted it was that cold, but for the sake of conversation he didn't amend his words. Grabbing two flashlights and testing the batteries before handing one to Anna, he said, "Okay, okay, we can go now. Patience, woman!" Donning his jacket, he said, "Sometimes I wish I could have like, a pet Fire elemental, y'know? They have warmth and light, it's cheating." He huffed as if he was actually upset, though of course he wasn't.

Anna knew college was a pain. Or rather, was going to a be a pain. Paying for it anyways. She had the funds, but didn't want to rely on her parents and grandparents forever. She couldn't do that. She wanted to move out as soon as she was old enough. Find a friend to move in with or something. Or find a room mate. Just for that sense of freedom. When he asked if she knew how much it cost, she nodded her head dramatically. "Ohh yeah, broski. I know." She shook her head. "It's like they want all our money before we even enter the real world." She didn't consider being in school part of the 'real world'. But she always had fun with Ashton. He was fun to joke around with, so his reply to her comment made her laugh a little loudy, before placing her hand over her mouth. "I'm sorry, Mr. Raleigh. I don't think your going to make it. All because of that worm." She sighed and lowered her head. "Bet you wish you could take that back now, huh?" The smirk on her face as she looked back up at him hinted that she was obviously joking, but it was still funny. I don't laugh at my own jokes. All the time, anyways.
"Hey. Don't hate me cause you ain't me." She joked, shrugging her shoulders. She was a genius in her own mind. Even if nobody else agreed with her. She was sarcastic about a lot of stuff, but it was all in a joking matter. She didn't do it to be mean to people. In fact, she was pretty nice to all people. As long as they weren't jerks to her. She shoved him playfully as he made chicken noises, but couldn't help but laugh. "I'm positive, captain. No fear here." She saluted him sarcastically, before nodding. " Right! The candy. Can't forget that." She said, laughing as she dropped his arm. She was just excited to get going, to explore. As long as they didn't run into any spiders, she figured things would be just fine.
She nodded at his comment, and grabbed one of the bags and through some of the sugary stuff into the bag. "No sleeping tonight, Colonel." She bit her lip for a moment, before handing him the bag. "Hold this, while I put pants on." She said, joking a little, as she quickly went to her dorm, and through on a pair of sweats and a jacket. She would rather look aweful then freeze to death. Besides, Ashton wouldn't care anyways. "I'm sorry! I'm just so excited." She said, taking the flashlight from him, bouncing up onto the balls of her feet for a moment. She grabbed his wrist, and with him in tow, started heading towards the door. If they where going to explore, they needed to get going. "Oh, I completely agree. Lucky little jerks." She was joking, of course. She wasn't a huge fan of fire elementals. But he had a point, they got to stay warm.

At least he had a job. He might have been buried in the hellish debt that was college tuition fees but he knew that he'd be able to pay them off eventually. It might take half his life but he'd get there. It would probably be more wise for Ashton to spend his money on sensible things as opposed to huge bags of candy but he hardly ever focused on being sensible. He lived in the moment, let the chips fall where they may. "Heck no! No regrets, just love, baby!" He laughed, not even trying for a straight face. Ashton was too goofy to pull off the intensity of a poker face. Speaking of which, he was terrible at poker. He always managed to look disappointed when he was or triumphant when he got a good hand. People could read him like an open book. It was probably a good thing he didn't make a habit of gambling. "Fraid I'd hate you more if I was you, Anna. You kinda suck." A lot of the things he said could sound very offensive... if they didn't come from his lips. He adored his best friend and it was clear by the way that there was always a smile on his face in her company. They couldn't have come this far as friends if not for the fact that she could tell when he was joking.
Ashton was deathly terrified of spiders and so it was probably a good thing that they were such good friends. He hated when his friends would jokingly troll him with the vile eight-legged beasts. Ashton could usually take a prank lightly, laugh it off and move on, but there was nothing funny about having your friend's pet tarantula next to you in the bed when you woke up at their house one morning. One such incident had almost been the end of a friendship. He was not one to disguise his fear of spiders and so he expected his friends to respect it and not take advantage of it. Since Lieanna shared that fear, he believed that she would. "I am a human being, not a hat stand!" he called after her when she shoved the bag into his arms, though he didn't sound upset. When did he ever get upset? It just didn't happen. Ever. "Unfortunately I only know two of them," he said on the subject of Fire elementals, as if he were serious about this (he wasn't). "I don't know Josh too well and I don't think Lark would appreciate being dragged through the forest for my entertainment. Sigh. Life is so hard sometimes." He sighed on the word sigh as if to play it up a little. "Anna," he scolded, smiling, "if you keep tugging me along you'll pull my arm out of it's socket. I'm coming, I'm coming!" Patience was a virtue and all that.
It was pretty dark outside but the snow seemed to lessen the effect of the darkness, being white and all. At least there was no sunlight to glance off it and blind them upon emerging from the Academy. There was a thrill of excitement as he realised they were breaking curfew and thus the rules. He wasn't a rebellious guy but what teenager didn't bend the rules to their own liking every once and a while? He fell into step beside Anna and started off down a trail that had been made by another student. It was best they didn't blaze their own unless they had to seeing as the snow would hinder progress. Switching the flashlight on, Ashton made an 'ugh!' sound of irritation and smacked the heel of his palm against it when it wouldn't turn on. "Come on!" he scolded it. "I just changed your batteries last week!" After fiddling with the power switch and hitting it a few more times, the beam flickered and then came to life. "Thank you," he told the inanimate object, as if it could hear him. It was spooky out and he grinned in anticipation. "So, what should we search for? We should have a goal in mind and all that." Whether it be the first sign of water, a huge tree, a fallen log... a goal would be fun.

"No, Ashton, I think it's you that sucks. I'm actually awesome. You just don't know it." She said, jokingly towards him. When he spoke after she shoved the bag into his arms, she called back down the stairs as she jogged up it. " Get over it!" She called back down, obviously joking with him. He had a point - she didn't know many fire elementals. "Josh is my best friend - excuse me, best female friend's - " She said, pausing for a moment and smiling at him, " Fiancee. But I do not know him that well either. And don't believe I've ever met Lark. You should introduce me to her." She said, smiling at him a little. She had heard him mention Lark a couple of times in passing. She seemed like a nice enough person, another fire traitor, but hey, she came to the good side right? "But I think we could toughen those fires up a little big to drag them through the forrest." She said smiling, before sticking out her bottom lip and pouting playfully as he scolded her. "Well you need to come faster! You are just so slow!"
Breaking the rules, being a rebel. She only did these kinds of things with her friends. She wasn't a goody two shoes, of course, or she wouldn't be doing this. She stuck close to Ashton as they made their way outside. It was cold outside, and the snow on the ground made it that much worse. She was wearing a jacket but at that moment she sort of wished she was wearing even warmer clothes. Though she figured the excitement would warm her up. If that even made sense. "We need miniature fire elemental to keep in our pockets just for nights like these." Anna switched her flashlight on, following close beside Ashton, as his flashlight didn't even turn on. She bit her lip and tried not to laugh as he was talking to his flashlight. "Keep talking to inanimate objects like that and you might start going crazy. Or when they start talking back, your going crazy anyways." She was obviously joking around with him. Though it seemed to work, as the flashlight started working. "Your welcome." She whispered, as if it was the flashlight talking back to him.And tred not to make it look obvious that she had said it, by glancing away from him with a small smile, although he probably couldn't see, beings how it was dark and all. "Hmm! Well, there's lots to be found I guess. We could do something a little bit more.. dangerous?" She said, glancing over at him with a raised eyebrow, and moving the flashlight to light up there faces a bit, without the light being directly in their eyes. "I'm sure there has got to be something dangerous in the woods."

Ashton was pretty obviously unphased by Lieanna's teasing, merely shrugging in reply. "You keep telling yourself that," he said, a brief smirk playing on his lips. He obviously didn't mean it. He thought that all of his friends were amazing and he would happily put them on a pedestal high above his own if it meant their happiness, their satisfaction. He was a person who was willing to be self-sacrificing for the sake of others. Not to say he'd throw himself in front of a bus for every person he met on the street but he was selfless in many ways. "I know he's with Nell, I love the girl too," Ashton reminded Anna with a quick smile. He really did love Nell, she was such a sweet person. There had been a time when he'd ceased talking to her but that time was past now. "You haven't? That's a shame! I totally will!" Lark was one of his close friends as well and he trusted her despite her element. That wasn't to say his judgements of other people were always accurate and reliable, of course. Nell had turned out to be a murderer, Asha had broken his heart, Hannoly had disappeared from his life without a goodbye. Sometimes he made the wrong choices but it was better to trust everyone and find a few gems in the bunch rather than trust no one and miss the diamonds in the rough. "Toughen them up? That's a laugh." He did laugh, though, and he sounded more entertained than actually sarcastic. "They're the ones that call us pansies, remember?" There was some hilarity in that a pansy was a flower but it still sometimes hurt to be called weak. He'd gotten used to it over the years, though.
Emerald eyes sparkled at the mention of pocket-Fires, possibly one of the most adorable things he'd ever heard of. "Little chibi Fires," he said, laughing. That would be cute and all but they'd probably be nasty little things. Burn holes in your pocket or steal your change. Bite your fingers and all. Fires weren't nice. Better than pocket Waters, though, because they would probably steal everything for a joke. "Hey, don't be so judgemental. Charlie and I go way back. Isn't that right, Charlie?" He pet the flashlight as if he were speaking to an old friend. Ashton was far too silly to pull off being serious, though, and so he was smiling the entire time he spoke. He couldn't keep a straight face for long if you paid him. "Charlie is offended by the fact that you make him sound like a girl," he said informatively when Lieanna whispered a 'you're welcome' and turned her face away from his. "You don't speak flashlight so don't even try. You wouldn't want to upset their people, now would you?" He might not have looked serious but at least he was only grinning like an idiot rather than punctuating all of his words with laughter and turning himself into an unintelligible babbler or anything like that. That would be embarrassing. "Dangerous?" He wondered what kind of dangerous she meant, what sort of shenanigans she wanted to get up to. It didn't help that Ashton often went along with what his friends wanted to do and so he said, "Like what?" If she was adamant, he'd probably do it, even if it was incredibly risky.

She snorted and rolled her eyes a little bit. Ashton - always a joker. Anna was pretty sarcastic and usually always a joker, not to mention she held herself in the upmost confidence. She knew she was awesome so there was no point in trying to hide that from people. After all, who was more awesome than a color blind earth bender that could sing and play guitar? Nooobody. "I will keep telling myself that. Because the more I repeat it, the more I know it's true." She said, flashing him a smile. Anna was not an easily trusting person. She wasn't like Ashton in many ways, one of them being that she was picky about who her friends where. She guarded herself a lot, she didn't want to get her heart broke. Though she didn't think anybody did it on purpose. "You better! I've heard you talk about her. She sound's pretty cool." Anna wasn't the type to judge people before meeting them, so even though Lark was a traitor, she wasn't going to hold anything against her. "No no, they are just jealous because we are so much better than them. We aren't pansies."
After Ashton seemed approving of her idea, she really started thinking about it. Was it possible? Possible to shrink down some fire elemental to fit in your pocket? Oh, the possibilities! You could have a mini elemental for all your every day needs. "We could market this, you know. Make a butt load of money off it. I can see it." She said, almost losing focus on the situation at hand. They where walking through the forest at night and she was thinking of ways to make money. Oh, typical Anna Carver. Anna couldn't help but laugh and throw her hands up in the air for a moment. "Right, I forgot. Charlie is your real best friend. I'm just here to make it look like you aren't crazy." She looked over at him and smirked a bit. She knew Ashton wouldn't ever replace her as his best friend. At least she hoped not. They went too far back. At his next comment, she tried to look as serious as possible and shook her head. "Oh definitely not. I wouldn't want a pack of flashlights coming after me. Them and their filament soldiers." She blew out through her nose and shook her head. "Well, I'm not sure." She mused, continuing to walk. "Something scary. Something big. Something like... I dunno. A giant.. bear or something. Do they have bears out here?" She wasn't even sure. Nor did she really want to run face to face with a bear, but it was an adventure right? "I don't know but we should find one. Or a dragon or something." She said, nodding her head. She was obviously kidding, because she knew there was no dragons, but still. It would be fun right?

Ashton really did talk about his friends a lot and in high regards so it wasn't all that surprising that he'd mentioned Lark (and probably more than once) around Lieanna. He babbled like a brook and it was only natural that the people he loved would swim to the surface every now and then. He looked thoughtful at her question, like he was planning something, then shook his head and confessed, "I was going to grow a giant pansy to sort of contradict you but, uh, I really don't think exhausting myself is gonna help me to stay up all night." No, definitely not. Ashton knew that the best cures for elemental drain were food and sleep. He had a lot of food but it was junk food and that tended to have a much lower impact than something healthy and nutritious. It's like they're trying to force us to eat well, he thought to himself, amused by the realisation. "Yeah, and then the government shows up and arrests us. Sounds like a plan." He twitched his lips into an amused smile when he pointed out the flaws in her plan. "The government is freaky stuff. Seriously, every time I mess with the plants in the garden it's like I'm expecting a private jet to touch down on my lawn." School made him paranoid about things like that. In all fairness, it would really make most elementals paranoid. They knew the threat of government interference was real and dangerous so they tried to make a very large impression on their students to discourage any sort of misbehaviour at school. It probably saved lives, stopped the aggressive Fires from using their powers to intimidate outside of the Academy. They might not have been his favourite people in the world but Ashton wouldn't wish lab testing on anyone.
He wrapped his arms around Anna for a moment and clung to her like seran wrap when she spoke of Charlie. "You're only the best cover story ever," he said, rocking back and forth for a moment while laughing pretty hard. It was too difficult for Ashton to take himself seriously. Far, far too difficult. He thought about bears and nodded. "This is the Canadian wilderness, they probably have bears and moose and freaking penguins or something." He laughed and flashed a toothy grin. "Or at least bears." Maple Hollow was surrounded by endless miles of trees and mountains and lakes, no settlements close enough to count. Like all elementals, he'd learned in school that this was to prevent curious and unfamiliar mortals dropped in on a regular basis. Maple Hollow had humans, too, quite a lot of them, but it was the only city in the entire world that had an almost equal balance of mortals and elementals. In fact, he'd heard once that you were a tad more likely to encounter another elemental on the streets than a human. He supposed it was because of security. People liked to be around their own kind. He didn't think he wanted to live somewhere that no one had powers like him. It would be lonely. "We're definitely not going to find a dragon," he mused, chuckling. "But hey, the bear can be our dragon! We'll be mighty dragon slayers on a quest to run like hell in the other direction if we actually come across one!" Rest assured that if he actually bumped into a bear in the woods that would be exactly what Ashton was going to do.
