It was lunch time which meant break time which meant alone time. Currently Hiro was at his desk in his classroom. He was drinking some coffee from his mug as he was writing on some of his students papers. He was grading papers and writing notes during his lunch break. He was taken out of his thoughts when his small microwave at the corner of his desk went off. He put his mug down to reach out for his food. He had to eat of course. The only reason he was working was because he wanted to try and get these papers back before the class began. If not it would be just more work he had to take back home along with the homework he would be collecting today as well. Why the hell did he assign so much work? Oh yeah, he was hoping his students would learn something if he did so. Oh well now. The deed had been done.
He opened the microwave and pulled out the plate that was inside it. Leftover pizza from the night before. Couldn't let it go to waste after all, besides he loved pizza so it was all good in his eyes. One of the reasons he normally stayed in his room was to make it easy for any of his students to be able to find him in case they needed something. Besides, he wasn't one to go conversing, or gossipping in many cases, with the other teachers. It wasn't like he didn't get along with them. He made conversations with them when he spent time in the lounge. It was still a bit surprising sometimes when he talked to his current collegues who happen to be former teachers. Awkward could definitely be said about the situation sometimes. Point was though he preferred the quietness of his room where he could get the most work done anyways. It just made more sense in his eyes.

"Can you go please?" The girl didn't even need to beg as she widened her eyes and clasped her hands together. Of course Nell would go, she'd do whatever she could. She did want to tell her friend that she should go herself, that she shouldn't be afraid of her teacher. Nell didn't know this teacher, her friend was a bit younger than her, but that didn't really matter. She was outgoing and confident in social situations, even when it came to people who were older than her. Shy could never be a word to describe her, but it could be used to describe Liza Eaglin. Poor girl let out a sigh of relief when the Earth said, "Yeah, no problem. What room is he in?" The girl informed her and Nell set off to find the teacher. It wasn't anything bad, but since she was an empathetic person, she knew what the mousy blond girl had been worried about, fidgeting in her tights and pulling at her jacket.
Nell took her headphones out as she walked down the hallways, careful not to brush against the little flowers that had been blooming there, only the size of stud earrings. She didn't need to practice like this anymore, she'd gotten the handle on creating her element, but she still liked creating. She didn't want to stop, and so she kept going with it, kept moving. Nell found the classroom after quite a bit of searching (searching, not getting lost along the way and retracing steps) and knocked on the door before opening it. "Food," was the first word out of her mouth when she noticed the pizza. But she had a mission, one that needed to be accomplished. "Hello, are you Mr. Mizushima?" she questioned as she stepped in further, sneakers silent against the floor. The foreign name sounded strange on her New York accented tongue. "Or should I call you Mizushima-sensei?" She shook her had before getting too far off track. "A student of yours wanted me to speak on behalf of her." She held on to the strap of her messenger bag so she could do something with her hands.

Hiro wiped his mouth as he eat on his lunch. He picked up his pen again to start writing again as he ate. Just because he was eating didn't mean he couldn't work. The pizza was good. Of course it had been better the night before since it had been freshly made but it wasn't terrible. The good thing was that he had a whole hour and a half before his next class so he had plenty of time to himself. So he used that time to eat and work. Of course it may be different if someone were to interrupt him but that would wait until it actually happen.
As if on cue though he heard a knocking on his door. He wasn't expecting anyone. Of course his students knew very well that where he was during certain times if they ever needed to talk to him about something. Sometimes they made appointments with him or they just showed up. Considering he had no prior plans to meet with anyone he assumed this would be just an unexpected visit. He would be lying though if he said that he wasn't at least a little surprised considering who walked him. It wasn't because it was Nell, it was because he didn't know Nell. He knew her not to be one of his current students nor his previous students. She proved that with her asking who he was. He had a very brief smile when she said 'sensei' ""Mr" is fine. And yes I am. Can I help you with something." He arched his eyebrow slightly. "Too scared to talk to me themselves I guess huh? Very well." he said in a bit of amusement as he left out a small sigh. "Would you like a slice?" her first word when she step into the room had been food and he had plenty so he really didn't mind sharing he said as he pulled out another paper plate in case she did want a slice.
Hiro settled into his chair before taking in another breath and asking Nell her business here. "So what is it exactly that my dear student sent you here for?" he asked with nothing but curiousness in his voice. Would he had rather been talking directly to the student? Yes, he liked it when people took the initiative to do things themselves but he would let it go. Some people were shy about certain things so he wouldn't let it get to him.

She smiled at the warm reception, not that she'd been expecting him to kick her out. Well...he did have food, and he may have wanted to be left alone. So she was glad when he didn't immediately tell her to turn and exit. She nodded. "All right." It was mostly a joke, anyway, even though it'd be rather interesting if he wanted his students to call him "sensei". "Yeah, it's Liza," she told the teacher. She figured he'd know her since she was his student, but then again, she was a bit of a wallflower. "My name is Nell, by the way. I'm a college student." She didn't offer an explanation as to why she was hanging around a high school student, she didn't think she needed one. Some people thought that was immature, but hey, she spent a lot of her time around children.
The teacher offered her a slice, and he could have been offering her gold with how much it made her heart swell, like suddenly the world was okay and she was going to be happiest girl in the world. It was rather humorous thinking that Josh's proposal and the sight of food almost had the same effect on her, but she knew that the former had the most effect. "If...you'd like, yeah," she said, her voice breathy. She really was hungry, hadn't eaten since this morning. She skipped her lunch break to help out a teacher with setting up a lab for the next day. There was one thing more important to her than food, and that was helping others. She pulled up a chair and sat down, picking up the pizza and chewing silently for a few moments. It tasted better than anything at that moment, she couldn't even tell that it had been nuked. Usually her taste buds were very sensitive, but hunger did strange things to a person.
She put the pizza down, covering her mouth for a moment just in case there was any cheese, before she spoke up. "Well Liza has been skipping class for quite a bit," Nell shrugged her shoulders apologetically, "And she wanted to ask for makeup work, but she figured that you'd probably be angry with her." Nell didn't know that the teacher was a Fire, if she did, she might have been a little more on her guard. Teachers still held on to their alliances a bit, old habits died hard. "There's been family issues, and she has had good reasons, she just wanted me to explain. See, her parents are getting a rather messy divorce, and your class isn't the only one you've cut out of." She didn't mention that it was because Liza had been crying. She was surprised that the girl even wanted her teacher to know, but reminded herself that not everyone was like her.

"Pleasure to meet you Nell." he said with a welcoming smile. He bother with her element because really what different would it make. It wasn't like her element would changed the fact of what she was doing here. At least not in his eyes. He let out a sigh when she said for which student she was coming for. "Ahh yes Liza. One of the shy ones. Now I see why she asked someone else to come in her place." he said playfully. It had made him curious as to why a college student was speaking on behalf of a high schooler but he just let it be. No point in questioning it really. He of course knew whom Nell was talking about. He would know any of his students. He made it a job to know them, even if they weren't the most active in the class. He would know his students either way.
When she accepted the pizza he put a slice on the extra plate and handed it to her. The food lightened the mood a bit. Of course she was here to speak for a student so it was slightly serious and businessy but he didn't the mood to feel too serious or heavy. So the food helped with that. "Really? I hadn't noticed." he said in a light sarcastic manner when she brought up the fact about Liza missing class. "Sorry. Sarcasm, really hard habit to break. Please continued." he said returning to his more mature serious mode. He listened closely as Nell spoke. Did he seem like the angry type? Well he is a fire so it was easy for people to believe that. And he made it well known to his students what element he was so he could understand Liza feeling that way but he never wanted his students to feel like they couldn't come talk to him. "I see. Well, I can understand the topic of parents taking a toll on a person." he said as he remembered the early days of when he lost his parents and how it had affect him. He ran a hand through his hair as he gave what Nell said a thought. "I must not be doing a very good job if my students are scared to talk to me themselves. I'm sorry you're being used as an owl in this instant." he said with an apologetic smile. "Well, you could tell Liza I would gladly give her make-up work on the condition that she comes sees me and collects it herself. And I promise not to be spouting fire from my hands when she does." he said very lightly in a humorous way. In reality though he wished to see Liza in person to see how she was doing. He understood that this would be a difficult time for the girl and thus wanted to give his support to his student in anyway he could.

Nell was always good in social situations, so it also extended into professional ones. It spoke a lot for someone who had the world experience of a two-year-old, but she'd worked in three different places since coming into this world. She'd been through a trial, she'd had to lie to the face of the American and Canadian law systems multiple times. She was polite, mannerly, and quick on her feet. Her laugh was soft when she agreed, "Yeah, that one. Very sweet, though." Sometimes Nell let herself be a little too maternal about her friends. She was sure if Liza was here she'd have turned twenty shades of red and slapped her friend on the arm. Despite being a shy little thing, she had a temper on her. Wind, the facets of her personality were amazing.
Nell quirked her lips in a half-smile at his sardonic response. Course he noticed. She listened as he spoke about the topic of parents, and silently she agreed. In a way, she could kind of relate to her friend. But not really, not on any level. Her parents separated, but there was no court decision, no word. Nell believed a warning would probably have been harder to deal with when her father left. She lifted her hand and shook it, still smiling. "I'm sure it has nothing to do with you," she told him confidently. He was a pleasant man, and he shared food. "She just has performance anxiety, I s'pose." Nell added on, "And I don't mind speaking for her. No skin off my back." Even if she had something to do, she'd have put it aside for the girl. One could get Nell to do anything for them, they didn't even have to manipulate her.
Nell's smile was bright when he spoke. "Brilliant!" she said. "I'm sure I could prod her to come see you." The Earth graduate scratched at her head. "Hopefully things blow over for her." She feared for the children in situations like this. She heard the worse case scenarios, they ended up in foster care, maybe ended up where she worked. Nell didn't want to see Liza in the group home. One of them will take her. But the parents seemed more concerned about each other than about their kid. If anything, she was more of an object to them than their child now, and it was heartbreaking. She wasn't even sure if Liza saw this herself. Then Nell realized something. "Oh. You're a Fire?" she asked, sounding more curious than anything. Then, with another half-smile, she added, "Or a mutant who can shoot fire out of his hands at will thanks to radiation?"

Hiro made a mental note to try and get to his know his students. It helped when it came to learning their learning habits. That's why when Nell came in who she was talking about immediately. Hiro wanted to encourage all his students to work hard. Of course it was a bit easier to relate to the ones that were a bit more like Hiro was when he was younger. He did agree that Liza was sweet when she spoke. Normally though she kept to herself, at least in class. Of course he didn't know how she was outside of class but he figured she was about the same if she was able to get a friend of her's who was in college to come and talk on her behalf.
She was kind enough to reassure him that it Liza not coming perhaps didn't have anything with him but he couldn't help to think that he had to have played some part in her not being able to appear in front of himself. "Well, you're very kind. Liza is lucky to have a friend like you be her side. College student or not."
Well, he had made his choice. He would have some work prepared for Liza to do to make up for what she's missed but of course he would like for Liza to come pick it up herself. "Thank you. And we can only hope that for the best for Liza. This will definitely be a time where her friends could and probably will play an important part but I don't think she'll have a problem in that department." When his parents had died his friends had been great support for him. Of course he didn't show how much it had affected him but that didn't mean he hadn't appreciated his friend's help. He knew that he could rely on them because of it. He was brought out of his thoughts by Nell's realization. He just smiled lightly at her. He chuckled a bit. "Well, as far as I'm aware I was born this way. I think that sounds something mroe out of a comic book." he said and slightly snapped his fingers a bit as a small flame appeared in his hand. He played with it just a bit before making it disappear. "And if I may be so bold to say, just based on your overall friendliness I would think that you were either and Earth or Water. Possibly Wind but I kind of doubt it. I know I didn't have you as a student so I'm just going out on a limb here."

Nell's smile spread wide across her face, almost sheepish. Always with the compliments, she really couldn't take them. They made her almost uncomfortable, even though she always kept a bright face. She didn't want him to think that she wasn't thankful after all. "I try," Nell joked, fussing with a pencil on the desk and turning it around and around. She always had to keep her hands busy, had to keep moving. Afraid to stop, she didn't even contemplate how to stay still for a moment. There was too much to do. "Though you're right, she needs to kick her butt into gear." The Earth was mostly joking, but she did like to encourage her friends, especially in rough times like Liza was going through. It meant making a lot of food.
She sighed a little bit, smile still in place. Why did divorce even have to happen? Of course, Nell was well aware of the fact that it was better than staying in an unhappy marriage. But it was painful to see Liza go through it, because it affected the children perhaps most of all. She didn't see divorce in her and Josh's future, and even though she was well aware of the fact that it was because she knew she'd never fall out of love with him, it was because she never looked that far down the line. "Hopefully you're right. Sometimes I don't think she knows how many people she has on her side." Friendship was great. Not even friendship, having people around that cared. Loneliness was one of the most terrifying things to Nell, and so she could guarantee that it frightened a lot of people. When it came down to it, everyone had the same wants and needs. It united even the most divided. But unfortunately, Liza would be experiencing more of the division lately.
She arched her eyebrow, smile now fixed to her face with mischievousness. "Hey, comic books have some truth in them." Nell enjoyed them, especially for the whole 'hero' thing. Even though she didn't acknowledge it, she wanted to be that. A hero. Maybe not a super one, but a protector of the people. Something like that. Make her life noteworthy, leave her mark, make someone's life better. She enjoyed the little displays of power whenever she could see them, and her eyes widened with delight for a moment. The fact that such a world even existed still enthralled her. It was something incredible. "Were you ever leader or anything? Fire is so cool. My fiance's a Fire elemental, actually. Have you ever set anything on fire?" Always a bit too curious about people, she shut her mouth. "Sorry, questions."
She enjoyed this guessing game. It was a game, and she just so enjoyed playing. "Guilty. Earth," she said, scratching the back of her head and shrugging. If she were a more open person, she'd have mentioned that she'd actually hailed from families of strong Thunder and Water lineage, that she was a black sheep. But she was not that kind of person. So instead she let a tulip bloom in her hand. "Earth elementals are the best magicians, I must say," she said with a whimsical tone. "Flowers out of absolutely nowhere! How did that happen?" Any element, really, but Earth was the most tangible of the elements. She liked to think they were special because of that.

He found this girl amusing to say the least. He just observed as she played with the pencil on the desk but he was in agreement. Liza would really have to get on top of getting her work done, especially with the end of the school year so close. Even though Liza was a shy student she was a bright student and Hiro hoped that all his students would excel in their studies and thus he wouldn't want Liza to fall too far behind to the point where she wouldn't be able to catch up anymore. If she needed a little shove then he would help and it seemed Nell would see to it that Liza got the gentle push in the right direction.
Hiro couldn't imagine the idea of divorce. It was not something he had ever come to face with. He remembered that his parents were very much in love, a concept that in all honesty he never understood but apparently it had worked it's magic on his parents. His parents weren't perfect. They argued got upset with each other but it never was anything where they wouldn't get over it by the next day. If when they wouldn't talk to each other until the other admit defeated he never got the feeling that they were on the verge of divorced. At least they never showed and if they did then they were really good at hiding it. "Well, sometimes it takes us getting thrown off the cliff to make us realize it." he said speaking from experience. High school Hiro was jerk, bragger, sometimes self-center, popular among the fires. With that kind of personality it was easy to have people call themselves "friends" just to be around you but when things changed for him after the death of his parents he was able to weave out the fakes from the sincere people that actually earned the title of friends.
Hiro just smiled at her next comment. "Never said there wasn't. " Hiro wasn't avid comic book reader but that didn't mean he didn't pick them up everyone once in a while. Normally he got his fill of superheroes from the movies that came out rather than the books themselves. Of course who didn't dream of becoming the hero. Beating the bad guy. Saving and getting the girl. Having a whole city or world love you. Sounded good to Hiro. Of course when he thought about it like that it sounded like he was only in it for the fame. He'd have to rework his superhero priorities in that case. Good thing it wasn't in his immediate things to do. At Nell's curiosity for his element he just grinned. He may not be the same hot-head he was a couple of years ago but he still very much took pride in his element. "I don't mind. I was the leader actually. My eleventh and twelfth grade years. Funny that even though it was only a couple of years ago it sometimes seems like a lifetime ago. As for the element itself I love it. My sister is enjoying it as well. An yes I have set things on fire. Sometimes on accident and sometimes not so much on accident." he said with a slight chuckle as he remembered his youthful days.
That's when something clicked. "It is fascinating isn't it. I have begun to see the beauty in all the elements." it wasn't even the fact that she was engaged that had spark up his curiosity. It was more the fact that her fiance was a fire. "My congratulations. Fire and earth. Quite the pair. Who is your fiance if I may ask?"

Nell couldn’t help but snort at what seemed to be a rather random acknowledgement from the teacher. ”A cliff?” Not exactly what she’d been thinking of, but she was intrigued. What made her realize how many people she had on her side? In the beginning, there had been no one. It was why she’d ran away. But then came Josh, with his refusal to leave her even after hearing her admit to matricide. He’d stayed with her. And then the others who found out, Devin and Lieanna, the people who never left her. Ashton did, but he came back, and she couldn’t hold the fact that he felt betrayal against him. She’d lied to him, deceived him. He had every right to turn his back. But she had him now, and she was glad for it. She had so many people, even those that knew nothing about her. And she wanted to be that person for Liza, Nell would be that person for her.
She had to say, finding out that Mr. Mizushima had been a leader in his years was very impressive. Intimidating, even. That meant he had quite a bit of power. But seeing as he was in the position he was, a teacher, she didn’t feel the need to fear him. Not that she feared the enemy alliances anyway, but she knew that she had nothing to worry about with him. Her trust in authority figures may have shifted a lot, but she had faith in her teachers. ”How old is your sister?” she questioned, thinking the girl must have been young by how he phrased it. Not too young, but probably still at the age where Nell would fawn over her. ”Just try not to burn me or anything,” she said in a jocular fashion, scratching behind her ear. Her own accidents with her element had been rather…bad, but she had never intentionally caused great damage with them otherwise.
A smile brightened her features at his words. ”Just begun? I don’t suppose the alliances was preventing this before?” Sometimes it was easy to get caught up in the hate and the anger that you could forget how wonderful the simple nature of other elements were. She tried not to let this happen. It helped that her fiancé used to be part of the enemy alliance and she always had good displays of firepower around if she ever forgot the beauty of Fire. She wished that her father used his element more often so she could have more of the other alliance, but he was tame with his power. She probably should ask sometime. Speaking of her Fire fiancé, Mr. Mizushima congratulated her and she might have blushed had she been the type. ”We make it work,” she said. As a person who didn’t like talking about herself and kept quite a lot of secrets, this was just an example. She could, however, name him. ”Joshua Dale. He’s a junior in college. Don’t know if you may have had him before…” Josh had went to the Academy his entire high school career, longer than her. One never knew, and she didn’t know how long Mr. Mizushima had been teaching.

"It could definitely feel that way." the night the police came to his house to tell him of what had become of his parents had been like they had put a bullet in his stomach. He had been babysitting his sister that night per the request of his parents. He had just put her to be where she was peacefully sleeping. As he was walking down the stairs he had heard the knock on the door. He wasn't sure what to make of it. It was late and he wasn't expecting anyone. It couldn't have been his parents because they wouldn't need to walk. He made his way towards the door when he felt something inside tell him not to open that door but he fought that feeling and did so anyways. Of course he quickly regretted it when he saw the police standing there with solemn faces.
"She's sixteen. Ten years difference." She had been a young little girl when their parents had die. She was at an age where things could still very much be confusing but with time she understood that their parents were gone. She's the reason why he hadn't fallen over the edge. She was the reason he had remained grounded because he couldn't afford to loose it. She would need him and rely on him and that was why he couldn't let himself loose sight of that. Of course things were a bit different now since she wasn't that same little girl that always came running into his arms but she had been the reason why he had been able to get through the their parent's death. Or at least in part. He chuckled a bit. "I promise to restrain myself." he hadn't lost control of his powers in a very very long time. Of course in his first years he didn't have very good control and had to learn like anyone else but Hiro had been a quick study and eventually came to have enough control where he would be boasting about it and showing off.
He let out a small sigh but the smile remained. "That would be correct. I was...veracious when it came to the alliances, especially being leader of the fires for two years but let's just say that certain circumstances made me open my eyes." Hiro had been a typical fire. Only made friends with other fires and thunders and maybe a wind or two. Disliked and teased the waters and earths when he could. "I'm glad to hear that." he said with an encouraging smile. "Josh? I can't say I have but I actually met someone named Josh who was a junior just a few days ago. He wouldn't by chance be double majoring in history and biology and planning to go to medical would he?" that would be an interesting coincidence.

Nell liked hearing about the lives of others when they would provide her with information. It was in the brightness of her large eyes, the way she leaned forward to digest every word. Sixteen? Probably either a sophomore or junior. It made her feel a little old, realizing that she was in college. Sometimes she just couldn't get over that. "Is she a Fire?" Nell queried. She didn't know his lineage, so it was possible his baby sister could be anything. It was like Russian roulette, elemental genes. She was sure no one had expected her to turn out to be an Earth elemental. No one had wanted her to turn out to be one. Bloodlines could definitely be annoying a lot of the times, but she didn't care about impressing her family.
She tilted her head like a dog listening in closer, lifting its ear, when Mr. Mizushima sighed and commented on his past as an elemental leader. Nell didn't push any further with his reply. She knew that people didn't like to talk about certain things. Though she had met quite a few people who would write out their life stories for another. She envied them sometimes. Maybe it was a sign of weakness that she could never speak of her past. "Understandable. Loyalty to the element always." She quoted Mark Twain like the best of them, and remembered the second part of that. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it. She loved her element, her kin. She also held an soft spot for the Waters, but then again, she had a soft spot for everyone. Never once had she ever thought that she invested too much time in others.
He mentioned the majors, and her smile brightened up her face. The effect even a mere mention of her fiancé had on her was clear. "One and the same," she informed him with a nod. Nell didn't think there were very high chances of two juniors names Josh majoring in the same things, so she was pretty certain that they were thinking of the same person. "He's a busybee." As if that would explain his double major. And it did. Josh was sleds working, it made her fear for his health sometimes. "Hopefully since you're an enlightened teacher, you know that he's still a Fire elemental even though he's a traitor. Some teachers aren't too kind about it." To him or her. A lot of them could hold long-standing grudges. She looked at her tulip, her smile still on her face, now forlorn.

Hiro nodded his head at her question. "She is. And loving it." he said with a slight chuckle. "Both our parents were fires so it was kind of expected. Believe it or not though, our family lines have had a bit of everything so we could have probably ended up as any element but since our parents were the same, it was more likely to end up as fires." Hiro was well aware that there were some cases where the child could end up surprising their parents by being an element that they were not expecting. When you're parents were of the same element though it was more than likely you would end up with their element. If the parents were of different elements then it was definitely up in the air. It didn't cross his mind as to what element his own children would be. That is if he ever had children. Hiro had never had a serious relationship. He had flings but never committed. The girls he used to "date" weren't the type. Hiro wasn't one to really be looking for a long term relationship. It wasn't very high up on his priority list.
He let out a small chuckle. "I assume so. Although sometimes I fear that is used more as an excuse than a fact. But it's like they, time can change a person. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worst. I like think I changed for the better though." Over the years since his high school graduation Hiro had changed when it came to tolerating the elements. He eventually found himself finding disliking the water and earth elements pointless. They weren't that bad. At least not all of them. When you get into high school the alliances are grounded into you from the start and there are those like Hiro that took them to heart and held nothing back when it came to showing your dislike for the other enemy elements. Many who knew him during those days were aware of Hiro's change in views. He was still extremely loyal to the fires. They were his kind, his family but unlike his high school self he doesn't shun the waters and earths like he used to. You could definitely say he's had a change of heart since his teenage years.
He did find it amusing when it came to light that Hiro had in fact met Nell's fiance. His light smile never faltered as Nell brought up the fact about Josh being a traitor. "If you're worried about my opinion of Josh and you don't be. Of course had heard about the ordeal but never really felt the need to know who exactly it was. When I met Josh I had no idea it was him, then again when he learned I was a fire myself I don't he exactly thought it was something he wanted to bring up in conversation." he said as he remembered when he met the young man. "It wasn't until after that meeting that I learned the truth but it doesn't change what I think about him. As far as I'm aware it hasn't changed the kind of man he is." he said thinking back to that first meeting. He looked at Nell. "I can tell you that if you had met my high school self it would be a whole different story but what some people, mainly fires and thunders, fail to realize is that the decision Josh made was not an easy one." he said seriously. It wasn't like it was the type of decision that you made in the morning before getting ready for school. It took careful thinking and consideration. "As a fire, I won't say what he did was wrong or right, he obviously had his reasons...." he said looking her, "but you can tell him that as a fire, I respect him for sticking by it." he said in a reassuringly voice. He could probably name a few teachers, both fire and thunders, that he was sure would hold it against Josh.
That was when the bell rang to mark the end of lunch period. Hiro sat back in his chair. "Sadly that marks the end of our time together." he said looking regretfully at the young earth. He had been enjoying his company, even though he hadn't finished the work he had been hoping to. "It's truly been a pleasure Nell. And don't forget to tell Liza that I wish to see her."

Nell didn’t think her family expected anything from her. They couldn’t care what she was, what she came to be. Her element marked her as the black sheep in both her families, along with the impoverished upbringing and her differing views. She liked it that way, she wanted the differences. Because they weren’t really her family. She respected her bisabuelo, tried hard with her father, but most did not like her. And she did not like them. "Whoa, that's interesting," Nell said when Mr. Mizushima explained that he came from a mutt family. She herself couldn't really imagine it. But she knew it happened, learned that during her time in the Academy. It was still strange, having this whole new world open up to her. The information flow would never stop, never go away.
She liked discussions like this, philosophical and existential. Then again, she liked any kind of discussion. She enjoyed talking to people, even when they were enemies like Hiro might have once been. Of course, she didn't think of people as enemies or not. They were just people to her, human beings. Unless direct confrontation was involved, which never happened with her, she had no enemies. Then she had to remind herself of Rafael, how much she despised the mere concept of him. "Everyone gets a little lazy," she said with a dry little smile on her features. He was an intelligent guy, at least. He had a good understanding of the alliances, and of course her should have. He'd seen it throughout his entire high school and college career, most like. She only had two years under her belt and was still learning all that she could.
Her smile was soft when he explained how he met Josh. He apparently hadn't known about it at first, and he wondered just how that conversation went. Josh was a professional guy, and so was Mizushima, so she guessed that's exactly what it was--professional. When he finished, she noted, ”Circumstances change things, I suppose. Alliances don’t recognize that.” She wasn’t bashing the syste, it was in place for a reason. ”Thank you, and I will tell him that. It’s nice not to be persecuted.” She said it lightly, jokingly. She didn’t mind what other people thought about her relationship with Jsoh. Nell enjoyed approval from others because she needed them to need her. But when it came to how she felt about her fiancé, nothing could change her mind about how she felt.
The bell sounded and she laughed lightly. ”Thank you for the pizza.” Just as she was a very apologetic person, she was also a thankful one. Every expression of gratitude was honest and sincere. ”I have chem, so I guess I better get moving. It was nice meeting you, and I'll go tell Liza.” Nell stood and waved a little bit before going off, glad that she could have that settled. It was nice to help out people in need, especially when they were going through as hard a time as Liza. She really hoped the girl was all right, and she guessed that she'd have to tell her friend what she always thought to herself--you could live through anything that didn't kill you outright.
