The lake. Of course, that just so happened to be Gale's favorite place on the grounds of the academy. Being a water student, naturally, he enjoyed being in or around water. It was a nice summer day and he decided to spend the afternoon outside. He didn't have classes as this time, so he thought why not? He rarely spent much time outside since his fathers death, mostly because it was associated with too many painful memories. He had convinced himself to smile at the memories, but when he was alone sometimes that didn't always happen. When in the presence of others, he always kept a smile on his face. He was friendly and social to a fault, almost to the point of ignoring what he should be doing.
That afternoon the boy made his way to the lake, and had decided merely to settle himself by the lake. He was wearing a pair of black basketball shorts, and had taken his shoes off, letting his feet hang in the water. The sun beating down warmed his skin and it felt good. He didn't like being alone, so being out here by himself almost made him feel anxious. He always had to be in the company of others to feel right about it. He didn't let it bother him though, and just enjoyed the feel of the water and the heat on his skin. He thought to himself that he might be able to get a tan out here today, since he was painfully white at most times. He tried to tan, but he figured it was his European heritage that kept his skin painfully white.
After a few moments of staring blankly at the water, Gale decided that he would take a swim. He used to swim all the time, and always loved it, but in recent years hadn't done a whole lot. With that he decided that he would, and pulled his legs out of the water, and standing up. As most would before going into the water, he took his shirt off, tossing it lazily onto the ground. He ran his fingers through his hair, looking around for something high enough to jump off of. While his fear of heights kept him from doing anything too extreme, he caught sight of a tree a little ways off, that had a branch jutting out towards the middle of the lake. There was nobody around to laugh at him if he made a fool of himself, and even if there was, he relished in laughter. It was no big deal to him.
He made his way over to the tree and looked it up and down. There where small wooden pieces stuck in the tree, which he only assumed where from students who had the same idea as him previously. "Perfect."
He mused aloud to himself. When there was nobody to talk to, why not talk to yourself? That was the way he saw things. He always had to be talking. He gripped the tree, climbing it at a rather steady pace until he reached where the branches jutted out. It was a perfect tree to jump off, the way it was built. The branch jutted out a little ways into the lake, and he figured that would be perfect to jump off of. He told himself not to look down, as he figured he might chicken out at that. Gale stepped carefully out onto the branch, it wavering hardly under his weight. It was thick and it was obvious people had done this before. His blue eyes where focused on the water ahead of him. He made his way a few feet out onto the branch, and tested the branch. It was definatly steady, so jumping wasn't going to make it break or anything. He wasn't used to doing extreme things . While this wasn't what many might call extreme, it was for him. He prefered to keep both feet on the ground most of the time. He licked his lips, and took a deep breath, before leaping forward off the branch. He tucked his knee's up towards his chest, feeling the rush of air before the familiar sting of water. He had dived into the deep part of the lake, but that was good because he was what he liked to think of as an expert swimmer. After a moment her surfaced, and brushed his wet hair out of his face. It was sticking to his forehead, and there was a smile on his face as he started to swim back to shore. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Rafael wouldn't say he was an angry person, he wouldn't say that. He was easily irritated, and when irritated he became violent, but he was not naturally angry. That little trait belonged to his allies in Fire, in his eyes. However, lately he'd been very irritable. Quite a few Water students had experienced this irritation first hand. He guessed that's what happened when one found out that the father who left the family so many years ago was right here in Canada and refused to be the father that he should have been. Oh, the man had explained why he wouldn't give any money, support. If Rafael were a better person, he'd have understood and accepted it. But that was the problem in the first place. No, he wouldn't help his own son out, but he stated with pride and certainty that he'd assist his daughter out. And why? Was it because Rafael was his illegitimate son and Nell was the one he could be proud of?
It was a little scary, though, how easily the man picked up on his personality traits, on who he was. "I don't trust you, Rafael," he'd said, "because you remind me of myself." The Thunder student closed the book he'd been reading, brow permanently set in a look of disdain and hatred, as if the window had offended him somehow. Outside, it was a pleasant day, temperate. He didn't enjoy many things, though. He was a bitter old man without the age, even though he felt like he'd lived too many lives for a sixteen-year-old. Even though he could not be described as a saint, he was responsible, and he'd been the one holding his family together since his father left, the glue that kept everything together. Was family important to him? Not in the way some people viewed family, but he believed that to be archaic. When he could finally escape the prison of class, he headed out into the nice weather, backpack slung over his shoulder. He had to study, and as much as he hated it, Rafael wanted to pass the school year. If he got held back, he'd be hearing from his mother.
The boy chose the lake as a student spot, but before he could even find a place to sit, he saw a familiar person jumping out of a tree. He snorted. Water students seemed to live just like fish, disregarding the fact that even though the weather was warm today, the leaves were drooping to fall, turning red around the edges. When Gale popped up, Rafael flicked his fingers to create a few sparks, attracted to the moisture on his face. It would be no more intense than electric shock, but even that wasn't very pleasant. He couldn't electrically charge the entire lake, though he must admit he'd enjoy that. He lifted his head so he could look down his nose at the boy. "What, got no friends around?" he asked, his eyes scanning the bank as if to verify this. "Kind of sucks for you, bro." His eyes were full of malicious intent, and he was sure Gale would notice. He kicked up some water with his shoe, splashing Gale. "I got an exam coming up, how'd you like to help me practice?"

Gale always felt extremely at home when he was in the water. It was like all his worries just dissipeered. Most of his fellow water students where like that. He figured most of the elements felt at home well, in thier element. Though he doubted the fire students made a habit of running through walls of fire, or the thunder students standing in the middle of thunder storms, but he couldn't really be sure. He avoided them for the most part. And for a very good reason. When he emerged from the water, he was immediatly greeted by a quick shock. "Gah!"
He exclaimed, causing his strokes to falter. As he opened his eyes, and continued his swim towards shore, he noticed Rafael. A student he had prior run in's with. Being the optimistic fool he was, Gale always thought he could see the best in people. "Actually I just thought it would be nice to spend a little time by myself." He replied simply, closing his eyes for a moment as the water splashed his face. He was overly upbeat most of the time, and while he noticed the malice in the other boys eyes, he didn't take it seriously. What was to take serious? He couldn't imagine the boy doing anything too serious to him. Why would he? Gale hadn't done anything wrong. He was extremely oblivious to everything, and nothing to him was to take seriously. The world was almost like one giant joke to him. As the boy made his way out of the water, the water glistened on his almost overly white skin as he got out of the water, his bear skin feeling cold at the slight rustle of wind that was in the air. He suddenly wished he had a towel with him, or some way to dry off. Being the oblivious fool he was, he stood on the edge of the water, still ankle deep, and looked at the other boy. "Sure man, what do you need help with?" He was always looking to help people in any way possible, and didn't think of the possible danger that could come with his offer. Maybe Rafael was making a change, and maybe there was a friendship blossoming? That was the optimistic part of him thinking. In the back of his mind he knew something was about to go down. But that wasn't thing the thing he was focusing on. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Rafael felt the spark of amusement when Gale recoiled, turning into full blown laughter when he faltered. He wasn't an exceptionally cruel guy, but he had his moments. He could admit that he was a dick at best, but he also had a pretty damn high view of himself. His confidence was fed simply by himself. Of course, he had friends, but he didn't have any brown nosers. saying what an awesome guy he was. He didn't think anyone did unless they were some big shit. Rafael raised his eyebrows at the Water's words as if taking them in like a sponge. "Yeah, nice day out," he said flatly, somewhat disbelieving that Gale was not pissed or anything. Not that Waters had great tempers, but they could be ticked off. He knew from experience just because like Gale, he fucked with them so much. It was a standard in his element.
Rafael didn't understand how he seemed to be so unguarded. Was it a trick? He wouldn't trust the Water elemental as far as he could throw him. After a moment of gauging the situation, he snorted. "Just a little practical application," he said, snapping his fingers again. "Just wanted to see if I can find a partner I could practice with, yanno." It felt sadistically pleasant to take advantage of Gale's naive and trusting nature. Because really, Rafael was an obvious threat. There was no good intentions underneath his gold gaze, his lips quirked into a tiny and malicious smirk. And Gale should have know this. They were enemies by nature, plain and simply.
Rafael used the water on Gale's body as a conductor to let the little sparks bounce off of him like he was a transformer. The dancing sparks had to be painful. "So uh...could you tell me how that feels?" Like a therapist, like a doctor. He wondered if the kid would fight back or not, but he rarely ever did. He was as bad at his allies, really.

Gale didn't have an awful temper - until he was provoked. He wasn't completely oblivious to when somebody wanted to be a dick to him, and that obvious that was happening right now. It didn't hurt to think somebody may have changed, but previous encounters with this boy had proved differently. Some people where just incapable of understanding these things. He definitely got his mothers attitude- she was an earth. He was a pacifist for the most part, and didn't partake in fights and things like that. Not unless he absolutley had to, and it was starting to seem like this might turn into one of those times.
Oh it was cursed to be so nice all the time. Taking everything with a smile and night thinking of anybody as an enemy. That was his major downfall - this he knew. And the realization hit him at Rafael's next words. Gale was used to this - every encounter they had ended up this way. Gale had gotten rather advanced in his skills - and being by the lake he thought he might have a bit of an advantage. "Sorry man, I'm not interested in being target practice." He said, without the joking hint in his words that was usually there. That wasn't going to stop Rafael, that much he knew. Words where not enough to get anybody to just back down, much to the dismay of the boy. He hated getting into fights, but if it meant defending himself he would have to do it. He just didn't want to.
The sparks that started to bounce off his torso where painful. "Shit!" He exclaimed. Gale rarely ever cussed - seeing it as unclassy and over used. But he felt it was nessicary in this case. The fact that he was dripping wet was just conducting the water, and he felt powerless. He had the energy however to draw his hand back, and drawing a rather large stream of water out of the lake and bringing it forward to collide with Rafael, hoping to push him back - or knock him over. His aim was skilled, as he was an eleventh year and spent all his time on his studies. He was very focused on his studies, unlike many of the other students. "Why don't you tell me how that feels?" He asked, in an irritated tone. It took a lot to irritate him, but this was certainly one of those things. He felt weak, as his blue eyes locked on the boy. If it's a fight he wants it's a fight he gets. Gale certainly knew that when it came to this - thunder would certainly beat him. He was practically bait right now, since a single spark would send his whole body raging into a frenzy of pain. He wasn't going to back down now though. He wasn't afraid of fighting - he just disliked it strongly.

Rafael tilted his head, dark brown eyes glinting in the light of the sun, bouncing off the water, all very bright. Everything around had an overwhelming bright quality. Not that Rafael particularly minded, though he much preferred the dungeons and the darkness of cloud cover, bruises across the sky. "Sorry, holmes, but you don't have a choice," he said, and that was very much true. Gale was pretty much his punching bag at this point, and it would be even better if he fought back. Rafael would grow bored pretty quickly, anyone would, if a victim didn't fight back. But still, he was a vindictive creatures, sadistic and vicious at the best of times, downright horrible at the worst. But he had a decent amount of friends, and wouldn't bash himself, not with his pride.
So he was completely overjoyed when Gale fought back in the form of bringing a stream of water to collide with him. It knocked him back, but he wouldn't shiver and back down as a Fire might. No, he had elemental advantage here, and he would use it. Rafael smirked. "How does what feel?" As if he didn't notice the water. But he did, he felt the drain on his own energy from being attacked. The Thunder fought back with just as much bite, sending an electrical charge through the Water left behind on the ground, up into his body again, finding a path and targeting all the spots, hoping he'd collapse. He approached quickly and aimed a punch for Gale's jaw, catching him when he was subdued by electrical charges. Who said he had to stick to elemental attacks?
When he lifted his hand up for another electrical charge, stepping forward, he found himself losing his footing and falling on his ass. He looked down, saw a root that shouldn't have been there. "The fuck..." he muttered, before turning around and finding his half-sister standing behind him, arms crossed. "I suggest you haul ass, Rafael," she told him, jerking her head in the direction away from the lake. He stood with as much dignity as he could muster, brushed off his ripped jeans, glared at Nell. "I'm not afraid of you, fucking cunt." She pursed her lips, looked off and nodded, like she considered this. "So you really want to try me, youngblood?" she questioned. "I've got more advantages over you than you can count on your fingers." She lifted her eyebrows, challenging. He wanted to rip her throat out. She'd been nothing but trouble as of late, and it was really grating on his nerves.
Rafael got closer, sticking his face in hers as if about to headbutt her. "You've got nothing, Nell, I could knock your fucking teeth out." She shrugged. "If you can touch me," was her cool response, and even Rafael realized that he was shit out of luck. She was an Earth, and in college to boot. He left with the bird flipped over his shoulder, and Nell rolled her eyes, so much matching the boy's. She approached Gale, the Water boy she was unfamiliar with. "Jeez, did he just attack you out of nowhere?" she wondered with exasperation, scratching the back of her head. "Hope you're all right, the Thunders can be pretty nasty to your kind. Nothing too bad, right?" Her eyebrows furrowed in concern as she lifted her arm to let the bag slip further up it. "Nell, by the way. I've seen you around, but we haven't really gotten the chance to talk." And under rather suckish circumstances to get the chance.

He had a disadvantage here. Gale knew he was pretty much just a conductor for every single attack Rafael could throw at him. Water and thunder where enemies by nature, and everything hurt so much worse when your whole body was covered in water. The other boy didn't seem to be too affected by Gale's attack, and that made him almost nervous - because now it was a fight. His attack hadn't done anything really, and there was not much more that he could do. He could control water, but when everything you did would pretty much help the other person, it wasn't really any good, was it?
He felt the surge of electricity coursing through his body. It was painful, more painful than it had been before. Agonizing. The pain was unreal. He was practically paralyzed, and it felt like he was having a seizure on the inside. The punch to his jaw was almost medicinal to take the pain of the electric shocks away, but brought him to his knee's. He collapsed, and once the shocks stopped he could still feel it raging through his veins. His vision was blurry and his head was pounding. Was this what it felt like to be shocked by lighting? Only probably more so, because all of it was directed right at him - and aided by the water. It was horrible. He felt like his jaw was locked, and he couldn't speak. He put his face in his hands for a few moments, waiting for another attack from the boy whom obviously had the upper hand in this. There was absolutly nothing he could do.
He didn't even notice the girl approach, until he opened his eyes, looking up. His muscles where still twitching, surging from what had happened. It took him a moment to realize she was talking to him, as he placed one hand on the ground and took his time standing up. His wet hair was on his fore head and in front of his eyes. He brushed it back and looked at the girl, feeling almost dumb founded from what had happened. "Y-yeah pretty much but no big deal." He shrugged, his voice sounding exhausted. It was surprising how being shocked by lightning could really take it out of you. "I'm used to it." Which was true, he had gotten into scurmishes with Rafael quite a few times before, and it always ended up with him on the ground.
"Y-yeah I'm fine." He said, shaking out his arms. Everything felt like rubber. "As long as I get the feeling back in my arms soon I think it will be okay. " He smiled at her, trying to lighten the air of it all a bit. He hated people feeling sorry for him in any way. It was just one more way that made him feel weak. That was one thing he hated about the academy, was those who looked at him as weak. He almost felt he would have been more powerful if he had taken on his moms abilities. The earths seem to have a good upper hand. Not that water wasn't powerful, you just had to know how to use it. And, of course, have moisture around you. "Gale." He stated simply. "Nice to uh, meet you Nell. I think I've seen you around too." Which was true, he had met most of the earths and waters. Nobody knew all of them, but it was good enough. "And uh.. Thanks. He sort of got the upper hand on me there..." His smile was almost sheepish. He didn't want to admit that everybody always got the upper hand on him.

Nell felt her heart pull, looking at the bruise on the boy’s face. Can I have a relative whose not a dick, or does my blood come with its own jerk gene? She didn’t even care that Gale was pretty much a stranger, she’d do anything for anyone. If someone asked her to lay down in the middle of the street, she’d do so, no questions asked. Was it healthy? Well, that would be a good question if she ever thought about it. But the thing is that she never thought about herself. ”You get into a lot of fights, or a lot of fights with Raf?” She didn’t know whether or not she should tell Gale about her relationship with the Thunder. Was that the kind of thing people told other people about? Was it right to keep it hidden? In moments like these, she realized how little she actually knew about the world and its ways. So she just went with her gut instinct and kept her mouth shut. It was what she did, kept things hidden about herself. Even though it wasn’t completely about herself, never was. It was about her father and his regrets and the fact that a boy was born out of them.
She watched the elemental as he shook out his arms, wondering if he was telling the truth. She lifted her eyebrows, smiled at him a little. ”You sure you don’t want to go to the medical wing or anything? Get some ice on that?” It would probably get swollen, and Nell felt that anger she always felt when someone hurt someone else. Never would it sit well for her. She hated Rafael right now, she didn’t know how it could get any worse. Even if Gale didn’t want to get any help, it’d be nice to chill out and relax in a safe environment. She didn’t like to be a patient herself, but she knew people liked to be taken care of. It just depended on who you were, really. And she was the kind of person that wanted to make sure everyone around her was safe. She’d do anything she could to ensure that.
Her smile shone bright when he introduced himself. ”Nice to meet you too,” she said, voice like the sun. The boy may have seen something different when she confronted Rafael, but she was an inviting person and gentle when it came to people she cared about. And she cared about this stranger, right here, because that’s how it worked for her. ”Yeah, he fights dirty, I could tell.” It might have gotten much worse, too, but she really didn’t know Rafael too well. Another wave of bitterness. She tried to shake it off in opt for worrying about Gale. ”What element are you in, anyway?” she asked out of curiosity. She couldn’t say for sure, especially since she didn’t see his attack against her half-brother.

Gale wasn't much of a fighter. In fact, he wasn't a fighter at all. He usually just tried to go on the defense and never really fought back. He knew he had to change that. He was an easy target, but he was starting to get the courage to fight back. He wasn't weak, not by any means, he was just too nice to want to hurt people. Pulling pranks was different, that was mental torment. He found enjoyment in that. The fire's and thunder's where so easily angered, it was fun to hide and watch them freak out about a little prank. Bursting pipes, making sprinklers go off, it was all good fun. Nobody got hurt, just a little hot and bothered. " Well, I don't try to get into a lot of fights with anybody. It just sort of happens with most of the thunder students, it seems." He shrugged, making it like it was no big deal.
Rafael was a jerk, and everybody knew that. Gale esspecially. It was just the fact that he didn't fight back. He figured that eventually people would start getting bored if he didn't fight back. Like a grizzly bear, they stopped attacking if you played dead. That didn't seem to be working with Gale. It just made him seem weak, and he was tired of looking weak. " Nah, I'm fine." He gingerly touched his hand to his cheek, wincing a little bit. It was sore, and he was sure there was a bruise coming up. "It's not that bad is it?" He asked, looking up at the girl. He didn't want to be sporting a battle scar from his not wanting to fight back. The worst thing that happened to Rafael was this girl tripping him with a tree root. It was almost embarassing how bad he was at fighting and confrontations, but that just gave him something to work for, right?
When she said it was nice to meet him, he merely smiled and nodded. It hurt a little bit to smile, but he wasn't going to show that. He didn't like to show weakness, he didn't want to show it. Even when he got into fights most of the time and got hurt, he would walk out smiling. It was just who he was. He was strong in his own way, and it was hard to make him mad. His fuse is very long, but when he gets mad - he gets mad. He could be a bit of a pistol when he wanted, not as bad as the fire elementals, but that was the only way to get a rise out of him. Usually it was a stab at his fathers death that would set him off. That being the worst time in his life. "Don't they all?" He laughed, with a slight raise of his eyebrow. All the thunder and fire students fought with raw power. He at least tried to fight with a little bit more intellectual tactics. "Water." He replied, nodding a little bit. "And you are earth, I'm assuming." He raised an eyebrow, obviously referring to the tree root. "Thanks again for that, by the way." He rubbed the back of his neck a little and looked down. I really need to learn how to fight.

Nell ran her eyes up and down the boy for a moment, trying to figure him out. She was always interested in other people, she couldn’t help it. When the fates, or whatever dictated who crossed paths with who, placed someone before her she was instantly caught up in wondering about them. What they liked, their family, do they like television, do they prefer crayons or colored pencils? ”Tell me about it,” she said with an almost bitter smile. After being their target in a war, she could whole-heartedly agree. Nell wondered if Rafael may have been one of the Thunders who attacked her, but she never really remembered their faces. Tried not to remember the people who came after her with accusations of killing the Thunder leader. But she could remember the leaders relaying the information very clearly, how their words hit too close to home even though they were wrong about who she’d killed. She was still a murderer.
Being a trusting person, she was always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. Most of that. Until it came to someone else’s health. She knew how people worked, they lied and said that they were okay even when they weren’t. Her entire history was of people telling other people they were okay when they really weren’t. She wanted to end that cycle, really. She tapped her chin, considering it, and jokingly said, ”Well, it adds character, that’s a plus.” No use in being all mopey about injuries, right? Even though inside, her intestines were showing off their knowledge of different knots they can tie themselves into. Empathy sucked a lot of the times. ”Still may be a good idea to get ice. That gonna swell like a mother.” True enough, at least. She knew enough about injuries to be certain that her words were very true. Did she always treat them the bet ways? No, not really, but that was beside the point.
Nell shrugged. She never really thought about it, actually. ”Maybe. But who really makes up rules for fighting, yanno?” There were laws for war, but that was between countries and it involved politics and continental affairs. ”Never really think about it, actually. Fighting exerts more energy than its worth.” Spoken like a true pacifist, really, her Earth was showing. She didn’t care. She had her views, people could have their own. After all, she was engaged to Josh and he certainly wasn’t a pacifist and she was fine and dandy with that. She laughed softly. ”Yep, yep, you got it.” She loved being associated with her element, like she belonged there. Everyone wanted somewhere to belong. Nell waved her hand when he spoke, looking almost disinterested. ”No problemo. Just glad that he didn’t go all…” She held up her hands like claws and growled. ”…On me. At least he knows when he’s screwed. It really does suck for you, being Water though. What grade are you in? I know in college, you guys can start learning ice manipulation.” She hadn’t even started on stone manipulation herself, yet, because she still felt like the memory of a night almost two years ago still held her back.

Her response made him think that maybe she had a few run ins with the thunder students as well. It happened to everybody it seemed, the hot blooded ones seemed to always want to be picking fights. He had met a few water students who where rather hot blooded as well, but none usually as bad as the fires and thunders. "I wouldn't know where to start." He joked, reaching up and brushing his fingers through his still wet hair. 'Tell me about it' was obviously not meant to be serious, but he felt his reply was appropriate. There really wasn't anywhere to start with those kids, right? They always wanted to be fighting or making somebody upset. Unfortunately, Gale was too nice to get mad at somebody. At least, legitimately mad anyways. He could get irritated, but that was about as far as his rage went.
Gale was a little bit too trusting when it came to people. That was how he got into his scurmish with Rafael, in the first place. He knew that he wasn't just looking to 'study'. He saw Gale as a punching bag, and Gale had let people do it for so long that everybody saw him that way. He was starting to find his courage to fight back, and he knew there was more he could do. Water may conduct thunder, but water is also one of the most powerful forces in nature. Gale knew he had the intelligence to do it, to master the element. And maybe someday I'll just have to show my power to Raf. He thought to himself. After all, the thunder had been his inspiration. "Well maybe I should add one on the other side to match." He laughed, motioning to his cheek that wasn't swollen and purple. "I'll probably get some ice when I head back to my room. Really, it's nothing serious."
"Rules?" Gale scoffed playfully. "There are no rules for fighting." He laughed a little louder than intended, but he couldn't help it. He was making a joke out of it. The boy couldn't take anything seriously. Es specially when it came to fighting, because after all - did he really know? "Energy? You see these muscles? " He said with a smirk, flexing his arm muscles. Since he was shirtless, it was easy to see. He wasn't actually very muscular. He was built thin and trim, and had some muscles, but certainly nothing fantastic. He was definitely mocking himself. "I've got loads of energy, girl." He smirked a little, dropping his arm.
He was more so trying to detour the conversation. He didn't want to talk about the fight, although it was unavoidable. It made him feel weak. He was just glad that this girl wasn't making fun of him. At her immitation face, he raised an eyebrow. "You certainly wouldn't want him to do that." He tried to keep a straight face, but a small smile crept across his lips, but he still listened to what she said. Life was one giant joke to him. "I've heard that, too. I'm in eleventh grade, so I don't have too much longer to wait." He shrugged. He was looking forward to collage, and knew he was going to go. He was an extremely dedicated student, and wanted to master his element, so of course he would continue his schooling.

Nell smirked at the boy when he spoke, watching his movements like someone who wanted to map every movement. She took in his gestures, his face, his eyes. Shaking her head, she couldn’t help but laugh softly, the sound barely a disturbance. “Well you’ll have to find someone else for that, bro, I’m not gonna help you there.” She couldn’t keep off the usual half-smile that adorned her face like she found joy in the air she breathed. And she did. ”You say that now, but don’t come whining me when you have an eggplant growing on your face.” Being a lighthearted person, barely anything she said could be taken seriously. Even though he was a stranger—her mind would like to argue that he was in fact a friend—he could come to her for anything. Abolutely anything, she had no limits.
She blinked, wondering what he meant when he said there were no rules. If that were the case, there’d be no dirty fighting as he’d said. Nell shook it off though. She didn’t pay much mind to fighting, of course. Well, she watched boxing and MMA, but she watched a lot of everythign. There was nothing that didn’t interest her, and so there was always something on TV. Nell squinted at him, leaning in close as if craning to see these muscles he spoke of. ”Yo, vato, I got no idea what you’re talking about,” she said, tilting her head. If she knew him better, she may have poked his stomach in jest, but she didn’t know if he had boundaries with that or anything. She had no problems with anything like that, but she was always careful around other people, keen on what they wanted. ”Maybe you should hit the gym. Get more energy.” And even though she didn’t know him very well, she was up to teasing him, of course.
Nell was glad that she at least made him smile. She asked for that a lot. If anything, she hoped her existence helped everyone she met. ”Nah, guess not,” she said. She didn’t know much about Rafael yet, not as much as she wanted to know. For practical reasons, not because she wanted to know his favorite shows and his music, like she wanted to know that about Gale. No, she wanted to know more about Rafael so she could figure out how to deal with that problem. ”Eh, you’ll get there. Enjoy high school. A lot of adults like saying that, and I figure there must be a reason for that, right?” Almost, in a way, she was implying that she didn’t have much experience in high school, but that was difficult to tell. Teachers enjoyed telling their students to enjoy their years, and Nell could understand in a way. She wished she had years free of responsibility, but it never happened that way for her.
She scratched the back of her head. ”Well since you’re too stubborn to go to the medical wing,” she said in a light tone, ”Wanna go to the mess hall and get some grub? Gotta be hungry.” She couldn’t imagine not ever being hungry, unless you’d just eaten, and she didn’t think Gale just did. She’d heard the whole waiting a half-hour after eating before swimming rule. Another new thing the world had taught her. ”Course you gotta put some clothes on. No shirt, no shoes, no food.” She hadn’t stopped smiling, still appearing as if the world was great even though she still felt some residual anger toward her brother. But he wasn’t here right now, he’d left and gone to do whatever assholes did in their free time. Eat the heads off birds or something, she guessed. To keep her hands busy, she started forming flowers to weave together in a crown, a habit formed since learning how to create her own element last year.
