Rowena hated school and she hated studying, so when she sat across from her classmate in the library she immediately glanced around for something else to occupy her mind. The boy snapped his fingers and she sighed, glancing back at him with an irate expression. What do you want? She demanded it without even opening her mouth. "If you want me to help you the least you can do is pay attention," he remarked, smirking. Wes was smart, really smart, but he wasted his intelligence on silly things that she didn't understand. Technology and coding rather than something... useful. "Whatever. I can't even remember what we were supposed to be studying." Wes laughed at her. "That's because you slept the entire time. Here." He pulled her textbook toward him and flipped to the page, putting his finger on a passage and sliding it back over. She read it without really understanding, though Ro nodded as he spoke so that he would not demand anything else of her. I am so gonna fail. She was alright in some of her classes, really, but History and English were her biggest problems. She liked the art of pencil marks and paintings, not the written word, and she honestly could not give a crap about some guy who'd died fifty, sixty years ago. Who cared what happened to him?
Though not entirely on purpose, Rowena's mind started to wander again after only a few minutes. A glance at Wes informed her that he was busy doing his own thing, the rhythmic tapping of computer keys adding to the rustling of pages in an otherwise quiet library. There were not many people around, she noticed as she turned her attention to her surroundings, and she was not surprised. Libraries were boring. She wasn't loud by nature but she hated being shushed for talking. People couldn't tell her what to do. The girl's blue eyes fell upon a couple who looked quite content in one another's company, probably studying, and her eyes narrowed in contemptuous dislike. Ugh, Dale and that little bitch. What's her name? Mel? Something like that. Didn't she kill her mother? Rowena hated her mother and so she didn't blame anyone who shared those feelings but she also hated Nell. Earth or not, she was the reason that Joshua had stepped in and messed with Ro's sister. She wanted to pay him back for that ever since but the girl was not an idiot. She was smaller than him, at an elemental disadvantage as well as being in a lower grade. Stupid, cocky bastard. Her thoughts were vehement and cold. The snapping of fingers brought her back to reality again.
"Honestly, Ro, have you written anything?" She glanced down at her blank paper and smirked, then shook her head. Used to her personality from many similar outings such as this, her friend didn't seem that bothered. She looked toward the college students as they stood up, apparently leaving. Good fucking riddance. She noticed that they left their stuff behind and smirked arrogantly. Idiots. The sight of the sleek black laptop, still open with its light casting its glow onto the papers in front of it, gave her a wicked idea. "Hey, Wes," she said slowly, and he looked up from his own computer. "You're good at hacking, right...?" A few minutes later the pair found themselves huddled around the laptop, ignoring the papers and textbooks, exploring the contents of the computer. She wanted to find something incriminating, maybe something dirty with which she could play around with. Maybe send it to all of his professors? He would certainly deserve it after what he'd done to Altair. She found herself disappointed, scowling as her friend clicked through folder after folder. "Most of it looks academic, Ro," he reported. "What about... I don't know, secret folders or something? If the guy's got like, a fuck ton of porn or something, it's not like he's going to leave it out in the open."
"Nah, already checked." Disappointed but not willing to give up quite yet, she went back into the folder containing a load of research and papers. There was a window for a few emails open in an internet browser and Rowena raised an eyebrow. "Hey, are these the professors?" It did not take long to figure out their plan. After some internet surfing for some rather questionable content, they managed to download a good amount of illegal things to the computer. "Here, let me take over," Wes requested. "I can send them as attachments. I wonder how much our headmaster likes blondes?" Ro just laughed, relinquishing control of the laptop without argument. This is for Altair, asshole.

Nell thumbed at the pages of her book, careful not to crease the paper. She never wanted to be responsible for crumbs in the spine or dog ears when returning books to the library. But she had to keep her hands busy, to keep moving. Unfortunately, abstaining from the destruction of books meant not doodling in their margins, which helped when taking notes. She would draw out certain things. The history notes she had open for World War II had flags that corresponded with certain battles, France versus Germany, diagonals and verticals. When it came to chemistry, it was atoms and models. It was like drawing maps to the important sections, little points so she knew where to look when studying. ”You know you’re probably a descendent of Ghengis Kahn,” she commented to Josh, but he probably did. It wasn’t what she was reading for her notes, but it was a moment of distraction. ”One out of five-hundred males. Y chromosomes are traced all the way back to him. So you’re probably Mongolian.” She had her legs up on the chair, fingers playing with her hair so that she didn’t tear a page on accident, twisting up the pen in her bun.
When she went to take more notes about the Battle of Normandy when her stomach decided to alert her to hunger, like a phone beeping when its about to die. She closed her book decisively, stood to announce in a hushed voice, ”Food. Let’s get it.” Of course she waited for Josh’s agreement before laving the library and their stuff behind with the thought that they’d be back in a little bit. She only wanted a small snack, after all, she had to read five more pages and make bullet points for them. So she decided that she’d just get a bag of chips, finishing them at a table in the mess hall while contemplating why half the bag was half full of air and disappointment. Before they could get back t othe library, however, Josh said that he’d left something in the mess hall and she reassured him that she’d keep watch over whatever he left in the library. She may have been easily absorbed (and therefore easily startled) but if she had something she needed to take care of, she saw to it with determination, even if it meant sitting there and staring at the machine.
However, when she rentered the tower of the library, the table they had previously occupied had been overrun by two students. One horribly familiar, in the form of Altair. Ah jeez. Instantly, she was striding over to see what was up and why in god’s name they were on Josh’s laptop. The boy noticed her approach first and he stood quickly, fled the scene like a bankrobber. She narrowed her eyes before lifting her eyebrow at Altair. Despite her previous confrontation with the girl—well, the confrontation that ended up being between Altair and Josh—she didn’t hold too much fear for the blond Brit. ”What are you doing?” Nell asked before tilting the screen back. The first thing she noticed was what was on the screen, causing her to blush, and then she noticed that some boxes for e-mails were opened, and some of the names seemed somewhat familiar. As she raised up her fingers she heard the announcement from the PA system, caling Joshua Dale down to the headmaster’s office. She snapped her fingers as if trying to get a dog to do something, said, ”Get up, right now.”

Rowena blinked in surprise when her companion muttered a quiet, "Shit! under his breath and stood up. He was gone in the next few moments, casually but briskly walking over to the nearest exit, down the stairs. She did not understand why he was so alarmed until she turned her head and found her blue gaze fixed on the object of her earlier hatred. Her reaction to Nell was automatic, lips curling into a cruel sneer and eyes narrowing. Well if it isn't the little Earth cunt. Where's her boyfriend at? She leaned sideways in her chair, not caring about the fact that Nell was giving her a questioning look, trying to peer behind the Earth girl to see if the Fire graduate was anywhere around. She didn't seem him, though, so her attention went back to Nell as the Earth elemental opened her mouth. Though Nell did not sound obnoxious or annoying in any way, that was all Rowena heard when the girl spoke. Blah, blah, blah. Why should you care what the fuck I'm doing here? Of course, she probably cared because of the laptop they'd hacked into belonging to her boyfriend—Ro was unaware of the engagement, not that she'd give a fuck.
Tilting back in her chair, Ro looked at Nell coolly. "Why's that your business?" She smirked at the Earth graduate, elbow propped on the desk. Rowena made a big deal of examining her fingernails as if they were the most interesting pieces of artwork in the word and then flinched in surprise when Nell moved to tilt the screen back. She smacked at Nell's hand in an attempt to stop her but it was too late for that, the offensive imagery and video now in plain view. Oh, what did Ro care? Picking up on the blush, her cold look of triumph grew more prominent. "Maybe you're just too innocent for his tastes, love." Heck, she didn't know how innocent Nell was. She didn't know the next thing about her. "He had a lot of interesting stuff on here. Didn't he ever tell you? He almost made it too easy." She knew she was lying through her teeth but perhaps if she could get Nell to turn on Josh...? She wanted this bitch to suffer. It was not, perhaps, directly Nell's fault. No, no, it was, wasn't it? She was asking for Altair to mess with her, I bet she was. Wasn't Altair's fault the bitch had a boyfriend to back her up.
Blue eyes flashed with glee when the call went out over the intercom. "Is he into blondes? Maybe he and the headmaster have found out they have something in common..." Oh, how she hoped he got kicked out of school for this. It would be such a satisfying tale to recount to Altair. She did not think that her sister needed protecting (indeed, Altair was probably the stronger of the two) but that did not mean this vengeance would not be the sweetest thing she'd ever experienced. You're going down, bastard. She folded her arms and lifted an eyebrow at Nell when the Earth elemental demanded that she get up. "Don't tell me what to do, bitch." She flipped the laptop screen down, the 'click' as it closed sounding abnormally loud in a quiet library. "Oops." Laughing softly, a girlish sound despite how cold she was, Ro said, "So, what are you going to do, Nell? Are you going to make me give it back?" She slid the laptop closer to herself and curled her fingers around it.

Nell's smile was not amused, didn't meet her eyes. Altair was acting rather confident for someone who'd just been caught messing with someone else's personal property. And that someone else was Nell's man. No one messed with Nell's man and got away with it. She was like Scooby Doo, unmasking the evil hacker. Altair would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for that meddling Earth. And her dog, too. But Nell didn't have a dog. It might have been a good investment. She could always eat the Scooby Snacks herself, though. Nell was half tempted to roll her eyes at the girl. "It's my business," she said slowly, certainly, "because that's my fiance's computer." Was she even for real? Altair was lucky she had patience and wasn't picking up the chair to dump her out. Probably wouldn't take too much effort, the girl was slight, she reminded Nell of a Merguerite.
The way the girl spoke, though, Nell was a bit jarred. She didn't know Altair well, but the way she spoke and reacted was certainly different. She remembered that she had a sister, but didn't ask about that. No, there was more important things at hand. But she stalled when Altair talked about her innocence. If the girl actually knew Nell, her words a would have had a more profound effect. She was always worrying that she wasn't good enough, that she couldn't ever be enough, but Altair didn't know that. Still, it was there, because there incriminating evidence on the computer and though she connected most of the dots of the situation, she could believe Altair when she said they were already there. "I'm sure he did," she said, her voice ice, but not in anger toward Josh. Even though it was still a rather strange development, one that got to the insecure part of her. After all, she may have been innocent as the Fire girl said, but Josh certainly wasn't. And what if she really wasn't enough because she didn't have as much experience as he did? Right now, it didn't matter too much. What did matter was Altair messing with her fiance's computer.
She pushed her feelings about that aside and told Altair dryly, "Yes, he's clearly into blondes." No matter what he looked at on his computer, she was still his fiance. And Altair was still fucking with him. She crossed her arms indignantly, and Nell blinked at her. Being a gentle person by nature, she wasn't always at the whip with smartass comments. Damn, she thought when Altair closed the laptop. If she could get the girl away, maybe she could try and get back in. But what good would that do? The headmaster had already gotten the email. Nell smiled. "I don't have to do anything, Altair," she retorted with the same dryness as before. She was going to do something, but it wasn't like she would tell the blond. "I really don't know what you expect. An email or two is what, a detention at best? Especially since there is no reason he would send anything like that to someone. It reeks of sabotage." Nell hoped so, at least. After all, it wasn't like people would send emails like that to their professors.

Rowena was almost too confident in herself nowadays. Getting back into modelling and getting over her drug addiction had gone to her head in a way, made her blind to some of the things that she really was not good at. Like being subtle, discreet, like staying out of trouble. She felt fearless as she smirked at Nell. " Fiancé? Oh, so you two lovebirds are getting married! I must admit, I'm shocked it's lasted! Who'd want someone like you around?" She shook her head and scoffed as if she was unwilling to believe any guy could stand Nell's presence. In reality she didn't care what guys looked for, she just hated this girl and everything she stood for. Hated the both of them. Josh more, of course, but this bitch had a close connection to the man that had messed with her twin and so she harboured a lot of strong, bitter feelings. "Then again, with all the stuff we found, I guess it's pretty clear he has got better things to keep him occupied." Oh, how it satisfied her to say these sorts of things to people. She was not overly antagonistic like a Fire elemental but if you did something to offend her, she could hold a grudge as long as anybody. She was vindictive, vengeful, spiteful. I hope he breaks your heart, Nell. Or better yet, why don't you break his? She'd love to see him come crawling back to the Thunders and Fires, begging for their forgiveness as the reason he'd left had ditched him. A girl could dream.
She'd completely ignored the fact that Nell's upset was justified, something she was very good at doing. Tell her she was up to something wrong and she'd flip it around and change the subject without much thought at all. Rowena knew she was guilty of course but she didn't give a damn about it. Her blue eyes gleamed at Nell's words, taking the anger to be rage toward her boyfriend fiancé, not realising the chill was directed at her. She'd figured out the Earth was angry with her, sure, who wouldn't be mad? She just hoped Nell got just as upset with her lover. Take it out on him later for me, would you? "You think he'd fuck me if I were one of those girls, Nell?" It was a low blow, suggesting that Josh would cheat on Nell if he ever chanced a meet with one of the women in the pictures, the videos that they'd sent in abundance to the professors. She did hope that he was getting into a lot of trouble right now as they sat and had their little chit-chat. "I bet he'd drop you like a rock if something prettier came along. Not that it'd be hard to find someone prettier than you, I mean, you're not even blonde, but..." She trailed off and smirked. Her expression was cold.
Rowena actually laughed when her sister's name came out of Nell's mouth. "I'm not Altair." They'd been talked about a bit when they'd first came to the Academy, the Bennett triplets three. Identical in looks, it was their personalities that generally set them apart. Syr had always been the nicest of the trio. The lines were blurrier between her and Altair. "I'd almost forgotten you knew her. You're the little bitch that she messed with, aren't you? It's too bad your fiancé came along, isn't it? Too bad for him, I mean." Her meaning was clear. Joshua was the reason that Altair had been passed out on the grounds that day. Rowena was going to be the reason he got kicked out of school and it never happened again. "Oh, but it's his email, Nelly. His computer. Look, it's locked!" She lifted the screen again and the password input flashed up. "I certainly couldn't get into it if I tried." Really, she couldn't get back into the computer, so she was glad she'd managed to do the deed before. Still, she kept her grip on the computer, almost worried that Nell might know the password. If she can get into it, I'm screwed.

Maybe if Rowena knew Nell, the girl may have been upset about the words. But she simply thought, I don't know, who would want me around? She sometimes felt more like baggage than anything when it came to Josh. Trial baggage, psychological baggage, dropping all her problems off at his door and leaving him to deal with it. If he never met her, he'd never had to have gone through a trial, never would have to deal with everything Nell was thanks to her mother. All the raw wounds that would never close. "Why don't you ask him?" she commented, allowing her eyes to roll. She had friends, too, they wanted her around, right? She certainly hoped so. The Earth girl should have pieced together the fact that he brought this laptop to school, and it was a stupid idea to bring your porn stash to school. No, she wasn't thinking about that. Her mind again went to the fact that she wasn't good for him. He proposed to me, she thought defiantly. He wants me. "Lots of people look at porn. Doesn't mean anything." She didn't, mostly because Josh scared her away from most things concerning the internet.
Nell knew how to be cruel. She'd lived with a certain cruelty, she presented to Jane, to her father. But those people she knew. She knew their regrets, mistakes, their history. She didn't know this girl. "What, because you're blond?" she said flatly. "You seem to think highly of yourself." The insults were unfounded, but they were the best she could do with the lack of information she had of Rowena. Usually she would have let that slide, but Nell took it more as an insult against Josh, not her. She wasn't the jealous type. Well, that was a bit of a lie. Anyone could get jealous, more like she wasn't the suspicious type. Just because he looked at...things...didn't mean that he was cheating on her. It just meant...maybe she needed to change something. That wasn't even the matter at hand right now. Something prettier probably has come along. She didn't think she was too great, so she accepted Altair's words. But she trusted Josh, that was the thing. "Oh, that hurts. Think I'll go cry about it." Her voice was toneless. Nell didn't like Altair's tone or expression, as if she'd won. But she wouldn't say as much. Let her think she won.
Nell was glad that the girl told her the identity, let her know that she had been getting it wrong the entire time. Rowena Bennett. She wondered what she could do with a name. She gazed placidly as Rowena mentioned the fight between Altair and Josh. "So that's what this is about? A fight that was...how long ago? I barely even remember her." You don't scare me, Rowena. She understood her feelings, however, the yearning to exact vengeance. Nell didn't have siblings to protect, but she had other people. And she knew that she'd tear down anyone who touched Josh. And she would, Rowena just didn't know it yet. The nickname sounded foul on her tongue, and Nell wished she'd just top talking and just give the laptop over. She wouldn't wrestled it from her hands, it was a damn expensive computer. Nell let out a short laugh. "You know what, you can keep it for now." Nell shrugged. "It won't look suspicious at all that you had it." She was already working on alibis for Josh in her head, thinking of the people who were in the mess hall, witnesses. She wouldn't let Rowena get away with this, eve if it took some planning to figure out.

Ask him? I'd rather rip his bloody tongue out. She hated him more than should be allowed. He messed with her sister, he crossed the line. Did it matter to Rowena that Altair had hurt Nell and thus her enemy had been driven by the same motivation that now coursed through her veins? No. She was not smart enough to make that connection and if she had, it likely wouldn't have had an effect. She only cared about herself. "It means he's not satisfied. Obviously what you're giving him isn't good enough." Having never had more than a five-day fling, no real relationship to call her own, Rowena really didn't know much about keeping a man happy for a long period of time. That wasn't the point. She was pulling words from nowhere, trying to rile this bitch up. In a way, she almost wanted it to come to a fight. Rowena was not antagonistic like the Fires in the sense that she'd walk up and attack someone but the things she said often brought the fight to violent blows. She pushed words until words weren't good enough. Why were Earths such fucking pussies? Anyone else would have leapt on her by now, knocked her off the chair and started trying to beat her face in or something. Alright, so maybe she was exaggerating, but really, Nell was a chicken, wasn't she?
Rowena smirked at the Earth girl and flipped her blonde hair slightly, backing up the accusation but not really caring. She did not look hollow any more, she'd gained back the weight that she'd lost thanks to drug use and bulimia. She was doing better and she'd gotten a modelling contract. She felt hot when she walked down the runways, felt the glare of the spotlights. "No, because I'm prettier than you, Nell," she said as if talking to a five year old. "Why shouldn't I think highly of myself?" She'd gotten sick of hating herself, of being self-conscious and letting everything put her down. She'd hid her arms and tried to cover up her thin frame with layers of clothing. Now she wasn't afraid to show off some skin, pause in front of the mirror. It had been a slow process but she felt much better about herself now. It was sad that it had taken Syria's death to get over her issues but that was over now. "You might not remember it, you little whore, but I do." Her words were almost a snarl and it was at this point that Nell got some genuine rage out of Rowena rather than her normal sneering, cocky attitude. "You're the reason he messed with my sister. This is only fair." Justice, that was what she called it.
Rowena was not intimidated by Nell, and this was probably her first mistake. The Thunder elemental made a noise in her throat and shoved the laptop away from her when Nell mentioned it being suspicious, hating the fact that the other girl had a point. She tried to ignore that point, though, and moved on. "Not like I care. Only he can get in, yeah? How will he defend all the stuff he's got on there?" Ro would say that she'd found the laptop like that, that Nell was trying to get at her for something. Sure, she didn't have the greatest reputation and Nell was way more trustworthy, plus there was the fact that her fiancé had a good reputation in the school, but none of that occurred to her. Being narrow-minded had its advantages. "What're you gonna do, Nelly, tattle on me? You have no proof." She smirked at her. "Really, I'm doing you a favour. Without me you'd never have known about that dirty little secret." She hoped they fought about it. She hoped they broke up over it and it spread around the school. She'd love to recount the tale to her sister, to her friends in Thunder.
[Maybe she'll mention the trial in another thread - this shall be a continued rivalry >>]

Horrible, Nell realized that Rowena was probably right. The girl was beautiful, anyone with eyes could see. She's probably had a lot more experience than Nell, knew more about men than Nell did. Understood why these things existed. To think Josh wasn't satisfied pulled at the deepest part of Nell. All she wanted was his happiness, and the thought that she wasn't making him happy hurt. But really, if she thought about it, how could she make him happy? She can do anything he needed of her, but she was sure he could find another girl who did the same thing for him. So why her? He loves me, the sensible part of her argued. "Oh trust me, I keep him satisfied," she said with a cocky smirk, covering up any and all insecurities. No one would ever have to know. Rowena wasn't necessarily the one instilling these fears in Nell, it was what was on the computer. The fact that she could believe in Rowena's words even if the girl didn't know her or what she was like. She just wanted to be enough
In a small, very minuscule way, Nell admired Rowena's confidence. She always found something to admire in every person. One of the reasons she could find herself attached to any creature who sent a smile her way. But not Rowena. She toed over a line when the thought of messing with Josh crossed her mind. "Because your personality's for shit," she said, letting her mouth work on its own. Normally, she was in too pleasant a mood to let a foul word fall from her mouth. Rowena had stamped that mood out of her. She was half-tempted to add, And your accent is weird, too. But then the girl could make fun of her accent, and Nell wasn't going to play games. It seemed that anger had been coaxed out of the girl then, and Nell almost blinked in surprise at the ferocity of it. Yes, Josh messed with her sister, she got that. But that didn't piss Nell off any less. "Yes, he got involved because of me, why not go after me then? Sign of a coward doing this to him." She was challenging Rowena, trying to entice her. It wasn't a good thing, but she was going to do it.
She tilted her head, gaze wide and penetrating. She hated how easily she could get away with this, it was wrong on so many levels. But then again, if Nell had been taught anything, it's of the many injustices in the world. "You really overestimate yourself, Rowena. You've what...in high school still?" Nell was stabbing at a curtain here, really, not sure if there was anything there. "You have as much power as a kid in a doctor's office." Hell, if it came down to it, she'd say that she was the one who used the laptop and sent the emails. She didn't care. But Rowena would also take a fall, she could guarantee that. I'm not telling you what I'm going to do. No, this was a game for Nell, that's the best way she thought. If in her mind she turned it into a game, it would be chess. That was her anger. Rowena wouldn't realize the mistake she made in her turn until Nell made her move. And then it was too late. "Well thank you for your help, Rowena, it's greatly appreciated." She gave a sarcastic smile, and waved as if to dismiss her.

Rowena cocked an eyebrow, wondering for a moment whether it was smoke and mirrors or whether she was serious. Then she smirked as something else came to mind. "You know, maybe you're right. Maybe he keeps you around as a plaything. I can't see any other reason he'd want you." Nell infuriated her and so Ro actually believed her own words at this point. Guys liked girls that gave them what they wanted, they weren't afraid to use someone in order to satisfy their desires. Nell was an Earth, they were all stupidly trusting as far as she could tell. The girl didn't trust her, clearly, but that was only to be expected. There wasn't much to trust about their situation. Besides, the Thunder elemental didn't want her trust. She wanted Nell to hate her because she gained an immense satisfaction from talking down to the other girl. It made her feel powerful, unstoppable, like she could win any fight. Confidence was like a drug to Rowena. "Ahw, is that supposed to be insulting?" She knew she was a bitch. She was trying to be a bitch. Rowena didn't hate herself any more. She'd hated the softer side of her, the less confident one that quailed when people insulted her. She liked the bitchy confidence.
A coward? She didn't like that. Rowena scowled, narrowing her blue eyes at Nell. They were like ice as she glared, cold and unforgiving, piercing shards. How she wished she could penetrate Nell's armour and really make her hurt. "I'm the coward? You seem awfully brave, spitting words at me like that." She saw all Earth elementals as cowards. It bothered her that the peace-loving element had the upper-hand against Thunder and that Nell was a college student. She'd probably run out of energy before she really managed to her worst to Nell and the Earth girl could probably defend herself. Then high school was mentioned, and that managed to coax a real reaction out of Rowena. She stood up, abandoning the laptop and glaring at Nell. Her height over the other girl made her feel powerful as she kept a hand on her hip, lips set into a fierce frown. "Do you want me to prove how much power I have, Shepherd?" She lifted the hand that was not on her hips and a current danced across her palm, sparking slightly with electricity.
She wanted to make Nell hurt. It did not matter that Nell was innocent and probably hadn't done anything to deserve Altair's attack against her. Nell had said it herself, she was part of the problem. She was the root of it, pun intended, and Rowena planned to cut her down. The Thunder girl gathered a stock of electricity in her palm and then stepped forward swiftly, making a grab for Nell's arm. If it connected she planned to transfer the energy and shock her as hard as she possibly could. Nell being an Earth, there was natural resistance, but Ro hoped it would still be painful at least. "You're both going to regret you ever messed with me." Nell's fiancé incensed her even more than she did and it was this hatred that fuelled her next words. "I hope Dale enjoys being kicked out of the Academy, don't you? Serves him right for sleeping with every whore that comes his way. It's pathetic, really, the way he takes advantage of people. Why would you stay with someone like that? He's only going to do the same to you." She was grasping at straws again, really, but she hoped those straws were long enough to get a reaction.

Rowena was doing a good job at reminding Nell that she wasn't all that much. A plaything. Nell had to wonder if she would mind, if that was the case? As long as he wanted her around. But she reminded herself that it wasn't that way. He waited for her, if he just wanted sex he would have gone for it a lot sooner. And besides, they loved each other, sex was different when two people loved each other. At least, that's what she believed. Rowena didn't know what the couple had went through together, she knew absolutely nothing about their relationship. "Hmmm...yeah, an engagement ring for a play thing. Sounds reasonable." She was slowly reassuring herself. Rowena didn't know. Her ignorance was what Nell could stand on. Even though this new development was reason for concern. Nell rolled her shoulders in a shrug. "Not really, just stating a fact." She really didn't want to be playing these high school bullshit games, stabbing at the other girl's looks for insults. Especially since it was unfounded, and Rowena most likely understood that.
She canted her head at the coward comment, as if trying to hear the girl better. The two were now glaring daggers at each other, and by now Nell would have gone for her if she was the type to do so. Nell didn't understand the aggressive nature of Fires, but she guessed that's why she ended up Earth. "Yeah, I guess I am." More like too brave, really, considering she wasn't a fighter and had nothing to back up her words. Balls of steel could drag her down sometimes, but she wasn't backing away from the blond. It was tempting, though, when the girl stood and Nell lost her advantage of height. Crap, she's tall. Girls were naturally short, but when it came to people like Rowena, Nell remember just how far down on the scale she actually was. Not that she really gained any sort of satisfaction being around people who were shorter than her, she just got envious of the taller fold. She looked at the girl's hand and snorted, noticing the sparking of her powers. "High school student and a Thunder. Yeah, go ahead." Her words were flat and unimpressed, even though no matter what, Rowena attacking her would hurt. Like a motherfucker.
Since Nell was going for bravado and didn't back away from the girl, she had no time to step back when Rowena grabbed her arm and sent an electrical current through it. The sensation jarred her and she hissed through her teeth, slightly stunned. She imagined its what putting a fork in an outlet would feel like. Anyone sensible would have made a move to attack her back, but Nell didn't do good with fighting. She didn't know how. At first, Nell was amused by the other girl's words, saying how expulsion served him right for sleeping around. Her eyes flashed with the first actual sign of anger. And she was pissed. Couldn't remember the last time she actually got this mad. "No, no, no," she said, shaking her head and smiling a bit. "You know what's really pathetic? That you're talking out of your ass. You know shit about my fiance, so you can stop right there." She wouldn't allow Rowena to make any remarks on Josh's fidelity. He'd already been through enough with her, she trusted him unconditionally. "Now I've heard heard things about you, Rowena, that make Josh look like a kitten. So tell me, why would anyone want to stay with you? I don't see a ring on your finger, maybe guys don't want bitches." Maybe rumors weren't the best thing to base this off of, but they were talking about reputation.

In a twisted way, the bravery of the older girl made Rowena hate her even more. If she was so tough then why wouldn't she just go for Ro, try and make her squirm and shriek with pain? That was what anyone sensible (Ro's opinion of sensible) would have done by now. She narrowed her blue eyes till they were not much more than slits. "I will." And she did, stepping forward and jolting her with the electricity. The hiss of pain was satisfying and she laughed sadistically, keeping her hold on Nell's arm until the charge had run out and then letting go. She felt the drain, felt it draw upon her reserves of energy, but it was worth it. Nell wasn't crying like Ro had wished she could make her do but the sound of pain was enough for now. "Hurts, doesn't it, you little bitch?" This was for Altair, it was all for Altair. Her sister was the one person that she really cared about and that she would do anything for. They were equals, two peas from the same pod. Their third sister was gone away but in Rowena's eyes that just made her and Altair get even closer. Inseparable. No one was going to take her ex-triplet and now twin away from her and messing with Al was just as bad. So watching Nell suffer was gratifying.
She hadn't quite expected Nell to get as angry as she did but her first mistake was to be happy about the anger. She did not feel threatened as the anger flashed in the normally sweet brown eyes of the Earth graduate, realising that Nell still hadn't attacked her despite the fact that Ro had shown herself more than willing to use physical force. She'd also sabotaged the girl's fiance and yet the stupid girl wouldn't lift a finger against her. I'll show you what happens to weaklings like you. She didn't see them as pacifists, she saw them as another word beginning with the same letter that was much more vulgar and insulting. Being weak and refraining from defending yourself was not a good thing. Nell managed to really get a rise out of Rowena when she mentioned no one wanting her and the Thunder was actually surprised by how cruel and cutting the words were. Hurt flashed in her gaze before she could hide it but she quickly recovered. "Why the hell would I even want a bloody relationship like yours?" Her words were snarled and her blue eyes blazing with anger. She didn't have a temper like Altair but she still had one, she could still get angry. "All guys want me and I bet you know they do. I bet yours does, too." She didn't actually know if Josh would come within ten feet of her willingly but she was spitting venom out of anger.
That anger did not go away. Would not. She was a Thunder, so while she didn't get angry as quick as the Fires, that anger stayed. It settled like a predator in the back of her mind, rooted itself there in the form of a grudge. Hate her today, she'd hate you for the rest of your life. Little whore knows nothing about me! Nothing! She lifted a hand and aimed to slap Nell as hard as she could. She wasn't a fighter, she didn't know combat enough to throw punches and make good blocks. She was just angry and acting on impulse by this time. "Fight me back, Shepherd!" She wanted to get into it with Nell, wanted to claw at her and tear her down. I am wanted. I am. The hurt was not something she was accustomed to dealing with and the foreign feelings fuelled her further. "You think you're so fucking tough with your big words but I bet you can't back them up, can you?" She attacked her again, this time with another shock aimed toward her throat, sent from a distance of a few steps. Wrapping her hands around Nell's throat would have been more accurate but a lot harder to execute.

The residual pain smarted in her arm, but she was determined not to let anything show past the initial hiss. She wanted Rowena to know that she meant business, she wasn't going to back down. She wasn't afraid of the girl, no matter how tall she was, how much strength she may have over her. Height did matter, but Nell wasn't about to calculate the odds in a fight. She didn't want to fight. "What? Did you do something?" She got why she talked so big. Probably because she was so small, and she was a bear, standing on her hind legs to look bigger, more intimidating. She may have looked like she'd be a chicken, but when it came to protecting Josh, she didn't want to be that way. Any other situation, she wouldn't care. If it was just Ro she was after, she could do what she wanted. Bringing other people into it was the problem.
For a moment, Nell regretted her words. They were cold and she could tell that she hit some kind of nerve with Rowena. I don't care, she thought defiantly. My words are the last thing she should be worried about. And why would she want a relationship like hers? Nell thought everyone wanted what she and Josh had, what every couple that has stood the test of time had--it wasn't something that could be easily put into words, though. Sometimes she didn't think love was good enough, because it meant certain things and human emotions were just a broad spectrum of meanings. "Guys want you, but only one thing," she said. Where she knew that she was being really cruel right now, Nell couldn't find it in her heart to forgive what she did to Josh. She screws with his computer and his life, and then wants to fight me about it? It was almost unbelievable. "Just because you'll spread your legs for anyone, doesn't make you hot shit." You should stop now. But she wanted to hurt Ro. Usually she couldn't imagine such a thing, but if the girl was willing to fight her, to get vengeance on Josh, then why shouldn't she throw a few words her way? She wanted to show that she wasn't going to back down, she wouldn't be a coward when it came to him.
Nell clenched her jaw. Fearless. Big talk, no walk. She should have expected the retaliation, but when Rowena's hand made contact with her cheek, she inhaled sharply and stepped back as if to get away from her. She rubbed her face. "I'm not going to sink to your level," she said coldly, her eyes void of anything. Nell would sink to her level though. She wouldn't attack a loved one, wouldn't attack Altair. She wouldn't play games. With the next attack, Nell dodged it, pivoting on her foot and breathing in deep with the adrenaline. She didn't like this kind of adrenaline, what came with anger, with a fight. With the same speed, she went to grab the laptop, still keeping an eye on the blond. "I guess I can't back it up," she said, snide in her tone. "No point in a fight that's already won." If she used her powers, Nell would probably be able to take down Rowena, but she wasn't about to find out.
