Samson could never say that he was fond of winter. As a matter of fact, it was his least favorite season, and he was remnded of this fact every time he stepped out of the warm comfort of Beatrice’s shop and into the snowy hell that is the Canadian winter. He was simply glad that in the huge, drafty castle of the Academy, he could have protection from the freeze in the Thunder dorms. It was one of his favorite places to be. Well, he liked to be anywhere that didn’t have too many people. Like most of his element, he often kept to himself. Of course, this was helped by the fact that he was mute and therefore communication with others was more difficult for him.
Unfortunately, before Samson decided to stay with Beatrice the night before because she wanted him to help excerise the shop with a priest she’d hired. Said priest assured her that they had anquished the harmful spirit from the place, Sam simply believed they made the place smell like cinnamon and ass-crack. ”Wear a scarf, Sammy, you’ll catch your death!” Beatrice called out him before he left the shop, and he departed with a wave over his shoulder to hear exclamations from the woman. It was a horribly long walk in the freezing cold from his house, so he took a bus to a stop that was as close to the building as he could get. Just like he hated the freezing cold, he hated walking in it, as well, and loved finding ways around it.
As usual, his classes went by without incident and conversation from his friends. Even when one became a friend with the boy, it still took a lot to get him to talk. And he wouldn’t unless absolutely necessary. He at least appreciated that the teachers always seemed too nervous to call on him for answers. He’d raise his hand a lot just to see who would, and when they did he’d write out his answer in big lettings on a notebook and hold it above his head for the teacher to see. It usual earned laguhs from some students, resulting in a glare from the politically correct teacher. Don’t laugh at the mute kid. It was like he was crippled, and he guessed he was. He just didn’t think of it like that anymore. The fact that he had no auditory ability had become a part of his life. Samson accepted it, even if it seemed others around him couldn’t.
After his classes, another rut was to relax in the common room. As he usually did, he planned to sleep there tonight. It was his second home, the first being the occult shop Beatrice owned. Like he expected, there weren’t too many students in the room, so he took a seat in a recliner, propping his feet up on an automann. He turned his gaze to the empty fireplace and sighed, wishing not for the first time that he was a Fire elemental. Outside the clouds hung lazily, pregnant with snow, and he kept his gaze on them, wondering if he could make up for the poor sleep he had last night. Or maybe he could get a book from his dorm. At this moment, he felt much too lazy to do that.

Skye was tired. Tired of doing work, tired of petty people and their petty problems, and tired of life in general. Mostly, she was tired of whomever it was who lived in the dormitory right next to hers talking so loudly, and the vicious part of Skye wanted to go next door and do something to ensure that the girl wouldn't be doing any talking (or shouting, really) any time in the future. The other part of her decided she'd just go somewhere else for a little while, and by the time she got back, hopefully the girl would have either stopped shouting, or someone would have soundproofed her room. This was a good enough plan. She tossed some homework in a bag with no real intention to do it and headed to the Common Room. It was practically deserted in there; there were a few kids gossiping over in the corner, but she paid them no mind. Insteead, she glanced around the room, seeking someone to talk to -- her eyes found Samson.
He was, maybe, not an actual conversationalist, but that was okay! Skye didn't always say much anyway, and she wasn't about to complain if someone didn't say much either. Or anything. "Hey Samson," she greeted softly, noticing as she approached that he seemed to be sleeping, or... something -- but it was too late at that point, if she'd already made her way over there. Well, his eyes weren't closed anyway, though he did look kind of relaxed and a bit lazy. "Mind if I sit?" She sat anyway on the seat right next to his, dropping her bag onto the floor next to her chair with a thud. It fell over onto its side but she didn't bother setting it upright again. There was nothing of importance in there anyway. She turned her attention to her companion now instead. Skye liked Samson. He was a nice enough kid -- or, well, "kid", considering he was a few years younger than she was at most. For some reason, it felt an eternity ago that she'd been in Grade Twelve herself.
The point, anyway, was that she considered Samson a good friend, all things considered. It was still a little bit difficult to communicate at times -- she wasn't a mind reader, after all -- but it wasn't as much of a hindrance as others might seem to think it was. She pushed hair away from her forehead and smiled at him. There was never anything more welcome than a distraction from doing work. "How've you been lately? Doing okay?"

Samson was close to dozing off in his seat when a familiar voice caused him to slowly open his eyes in what appeared to be a slow blink. Even still, his expression remained the same, stoic and blank as ever. When he recognized Skye, however, he offered her a flicker of a smile that appeared more like a smirk. Despite his behavior, he didn’t give off any hints of being uptight, his body language languid and undisturbed. He nodded his head in greeting, not bothering to use his phone for simple things like this. When it came to pleasantries, he’d just wave or nod. Sometimes, when one was first meeting him, it wouldn’t clue one into the fact that he didn’t just do this because he was the silent type. He often enjoyed the confusion and alarm and sometimes amusement when he pulled out his phone to text a greeting. Samson waved his hand in a sweeping motion, gesturing to the seat next to him and welcoming Skye to sit down. Of course, it wasn’t necessary, but Samson did have a little humor in him. Mostly, it was dickish humor. He wasn’t by definition a nice guy.
The fact that he didn’t right out ignore Skye or otherwise be an asshole to her showed that he actually liked her. Well, he was still a dick to his friends. Light-hearted, of course. In any case, he was usually fine with anyone in his alliance, and the graduate was a chill person. He enjoyed company like that—sometimes, people with too much energy threw him off. Beatrice came to mind, no matter how used to her he had gotten over the years. With his hands folded on his stomach as he leaned back, Samson shrugged. He shifted and pulled his phone out of his pocket then, and texted out, ”I suppose. Cold isn’t very welcome.” He didn’t go into detail about the lady problems he’d been having that had since been resolved—because he still felt guilty about what he did to Harley, and was freaked out enough by Jolene that he was interested in getting a restraining order. He didn’t hide things. If Skye asked, he’d be happy to oblige her about how things with Harley were doing…well, that would be easier if he were more certain. He felt like she should hate him for what he did, and the guit wouldn’t go away.
That would have taken a lot more words than he’d have wanted to use, of course. He reserved his capacity to converse for the friends he felt like talking to, and Skye was one of them. Even then, it was kept to a minimum. He had come to a point where he didn’t get many cramps anymore from all the texting he did, but he was still quiet and withdrawn by nature. Perhaps it was because of the fact he was a Thunder—that was probably it as a matter of face. He inclined his head toward Skye, lifting his eyebrows in a silent return of the question. As usual, he went by the belief that the simplest of things could be communicated through body language. He’d had years of practice with it, at least. Especially since he could communicate with Beatrice using no words at all. He barely spoke to the woman, and yet they interacted and communicated every day.

She grinned. "Thanks," she answered, despite the fact that by the time he'd retracted his arm from that grand motion, she'd already seated herself quite comfortably next to him. Well, that was alright. When he wasn't doing completely weird things (though these weird things were generally pretty funny as well, like -- for example -- just that very instant), Samson was a pretty relaxed person. She had no issues with him whatsoever. It was easy to just sit around with him and not have to feel obligated to make conversation, even though he often did find ways to. She was sure that having to write or text things out was a hindrance, though, so the silence was perhaps more bearable because of this... but then again, she sort of enjoyed silence anyway. She could use some right now, after listening to the girl in that dorm next door -- Skye just wouldn't think about it and hopefully, later, the girl would have shut up. She didn't want to start any kind of fighting within their own alliance, but it was difficult. Damn it all. She was sure Earth elementals never had these kinds of issues.
Maybe they did, though. It was difficult to imagine.
"No, I'd imagine it isn't," she replied with a nod. Skye wouldn't deny that, when she'd first met Samson, it had been a little bit awkward talking to him. She didn't even remember how they had become friends, but she did remember that little bit. Though she'd obviously known he couldn't speak, it was initially a weird feeling to talk to someone and receive only silent responses, whether in the form of a gesture or text, or... whatever it was. After a little while, of course, like the rest of the people Samson knew (she assumed, at least), Skye grew used to it. By now, it was more or less another day. Maybe that was just an effect of going to the Academy. There were all kinds of people here, and it didn't always have to do with the fact that they were all elementals, either. All things considered, Samson was pretty normal, chilled out, and easy to be around. Sure, he could be a little mean-spirited, but as a Thunder elemental, this was something she was used to.
She cocked her head to one side. "Either way, you look comfortable enough," she noted, then brushed hair away from her eyes, contemplating his silent question. "I'm okay, I think. Certain people upstairs were just being too loud for me to do much of anything," she said, gesturing towards the stairs in a way that she was sure was completely obvious, but she didn't really care. She was sure no one was around who would have defended the girl's stead if they'd heard, and she wasn't about to go dropping names (not the least because she didn't actually know or remember exactly who it was). "Sorry to bother you, though," she added after a brief pause, in a tone that she knew wouldn't sound very apologetic at all.

Samson played around with his phone, keeping his attention on Skye at the same time. He liked to think of the irony that texting people during conversation was considered rude, and yet that was how he had to speak. Of course, he could also use ASL for those who knew it. He’d only met one person, an Earth student named Ari, and they hadn’t talked since their meeting last year. Of course, some of his friends showed an interest in learning, and though it took a lot to keep him from teaching them useless hand gestures and actually help them out, he was willing to oblige. If he liked you and wanted to make it easier to converse with you, then he was one able to help. He spead his hands wide when she commented on him looking comfortable, contorting his face into an expression that resembled a silent acceptance. He liked talking to Skye—she wasn’t annoying. Even though he wasn’t one easily perturbed, he met quite a few people in the past who simply rubbed him the wrong way. Energetic people had a habit of doing that, which is why he enjoyed the Thunders and their isolation.
He was glad to hear the girl say she was doing all right. ”Yeah, women can get like that,” he texted out with a straight face. Of course, anyone who knew him understood that he respected woman. Even though what he did to Harley was something that he believed was cause for shame. In general, he may have teased the ladies, but he was still respectful. It may have been the combination of the interactions he witnessed between his parents when they were still alive—they were sarcastic assholes to each other, but the love was always apparent—and Beatrice’s lectures. ”Were you trying to do anything specific?” was the next thing he showed her on the screen. When someone got as close as Skye—which wasn’t too close, but he didn’t have any ‘best’ friends save for Harley—they got his attention and his efforts to actually hold a conversation.
Samson waved his hand, the gesture as nonchalant as her ‘apology’ had been. ”Wasn’t doing anything,” he texted out. ”Your presence is actually welcome. More than other times, because you know how annoying you are.” He was of course messing with the older Thunder since she didn’t even touch ‘annoying’ at all. If Samson could take the time to talk to you, you were obviously someone that was pretty tolerable. If he thought everyone to be annoying, then he wouldn’t have many friends, now would he? And even though he didn’t have a very large circle, he at least kept a good amount of acquaintances and people he could talk to on a regular basis.

Skye watched as he fiddled around with his phone. She didn't doubt he was paying attention, probably because of his general position even as he messed around with his phone, so wasn't bothered into ceasing to talk. No, she enjoyed talking to Samson, for sure. He said (texted, whatever) and did pretty hilarious things sometimes, and for those who could handle the attitude, he was a fun guy to be around. Skye looked at the screen and grinned as she turned back to his actual face. He was completely straight-faced, but that didn't mean too much -- it was an obvious joke. "Yeah, well," she murmured, seemingly disgruntled, but it was obvious she was only joking. "If I ever get like that, go ahead and tell me to shut up, okay?" It was mostly a joke -- but then also sort of not, because there were few things Skye could think of that were worse than pulling a 180 on her own personality and becoming anything like said girl next door.
"Mmm," she hummed by way of acknowledging the text on the screen while she considered the question. "Sort of. Just homework in general, I guess." She hadn't been trying too hard, actually, but that might have been because she'd been busy instead focusing on being angry at the shouting girl -- perhaps she'd been using up too much energy only on that. It seemed kind of trivial at this point, but she was sure that it would all come back once she went back upstairs. "I guess I should do that now... but." She just left the sentence at that, giving her bag, full of books and work that needed doing, a look of distaste... as if it were the bag's fault that she had to do all of this. She was being a little bit silly, admittedly, but she was in a weird enough mood to excuse it.
She mumbled the words quietly to herself as she read them off the screen -- this text was a little bit longer than the others -- and then laughed a little once she reached the end. Again, it was clearly a joke. She knuckled his head gently to admonish him for being mean, but it was as much of a joke as his was. "I'll keep that in mind for next time so that I can come annoy you a-ny-time I'm bored then," she said with a teasing kind of smirk. Maybe this was the reason she and Samson got along, then -- not because they were both pretty relaxed, but because they could both be a little bit mean without the other minding or thinking it was in seriousness. Of course, Skye personally considered it pretty easy to tell when she was joking or being serious, but apparently many others didn't. Samson was better at it. It might have been because he was even a bit more of a jerk than she was, though. "But really, rude," she chided, keeping her straight face without much difficulty -- her default expression was quite serious. "Wonder why I put up with you sometimes."

It was nice to have people around who had a sense of humor, and he rather enjoyed joking and finding out about others’ sense of humor. Simply because he grew up with so many forms of it. His parents were much like him, but Beatrice was…undesrcribable. Eccentric would be the best word to use, and he humor fell under that category. He knew that some of the friends he brought over wondered at times whether she was really like that or just being funny. Samson let them try to figure it out for themselves. He never had Skye over, but his home open to anyone. Especially because it was also a shop. ”I’ll make sure to do that,” he said. Taking the time to read his texts was sure to shut people up, unless they were talented at reading and speaking in coherent sentences at the same time. If he ever found someone like that, he wouldn’t know what to do with them. It was kind of unnerving to think of.
Samson nodded, his fingers busy again as he texted his next words. ”That’s a lot of homework you have there,” it said. Again, joking, because he figured that her books were in the bag. Especially when she glanced at it like it had just puked all over her shoes. ”Procrastination is more important, I understand.” He made sure to always do his homework, as he was a bit of a dork. He didn’t hang around friends all too much, he had to admit, didn’t go to parties because it was difficult for him to socialize and meet new people. What wasn’t difficult was to write, since he uses it to communicate anyway. He was almost beyond hand cramps and other annoyances by this point, and he could text pretty damn fast. These were little, innocuous things he took pride in. They wouldn’t matter to anyone else who wasn’t mute, but they mattered to him, especially since he actually enjoyed conversing to his friends like Skye.
He had half a mind to shake the phone around to piss her off, but thought better of it. At least for now. He didn’t need to be a jerk all the time, even though he would gain some amusement from whatever reaction he got. You’re an ass, he acknowledged, but shrugged it off. At least he had the potential to be a decent guy sometimes. He supported his friends and he minded his own business. There wasn’t much that he disliked about himself. Well, he disliked the choices he made, but other than that he was pretty content. His thoughts were interrupted when she thwacked him on the head, and he pretended to wince and gave her a quizzical look as he lifted his hands in front of him. He then crossed his arms with her next statement, pretending to give her the silent treatment. It was pretty easy for him, as one would assume. No one ever threatened him wit the silent game before, because he was the master, and he could work his way around that just by writing down his words. Then she spoke again, and he held up one hand as if telling her to brace herself as he texted with the other. ”It’s because I’m awesome, and you’re just jealous. You like basking in my glory, it’s cool.” He even spared longer texts for joking, even though it was always hard to tell with him and his constantly serious expression. He was almost a statue for all intents and purposes. ”Truth be told, I am the one who has to put up with you and your abuse.” He shrugged and tilted his head.

"Good," she said with a nod, tempted to pat him on the head like a dog that was behaving, but resisting the urge -- he might not take that so well. Samson could be... less than charming when he wanted to be. Skye grinned at his next words. "Well, mostly books, but still," she said with a sigh of great woe and melodrama. Homework wasn't too big of a deal, not really. She did prety much always get it done after all, and it hadn't really killed her just yet, but she was feeling lazy and maybe just a little bit whiny. Some other time, she would feel up to doing it, but for now she would sit around and talk to Samson and maybe coerce him into coming with her to get food later. "Procrastination is always the most important thing," she said seriously, with a "wise" nod to match, emulating some wise mentor or another from a movie somewhere.
Skye just laughed when he made a show of giving her the silent treatment -- technically speaking, if that was to be taken at a more literal meaning, he was giving everyone the silent treatment at all times. Even without that, though, it would have been pretty funny anyway, but it was probably because she hadn't really been on Samson's bad side before. If she had, she might find it a little less funny (but only a little). She just cocked an eyebrow at his next statement. "I'll let you think that, anyway," she said, "but let's be honest, you were glad I came over here." She wasn't as arrogant as that, not really, but if Samson was going to be she could at least play along. (If countering him counted as playing along, that was. Skye wasn't the type to go along with people just for no reason.) She put on a stern look then though, drumming the fingers on one hand on her armrest. "I'd hardly call it abuse, but there wouldn't need to be if you weren't so mean." Skye was, of course, still kidding -- but it'd probably be hard to tell. Samson would hopefully still get it.

Lacing his hands behind his head, phone in his lap, he lifted his chin as if agreeing with matters of procrastination. Of course, he wasn’t one immune to the trap, though he did like to get his work done. No one ever said you weren’t allowed to take breaks during. He picked up the phone to text, ”Need any help, Ms. Graduate?” It was true, she was older than him, so even if she needed help, he probably wouldn’t be able to provide it. However, he liked to consider himself smart. Well, he was dilligent at least, worked hard and kept up in classes. He also took an interest in his studies, which was a plus. He was even willing to help out other people. As unfriendly as he could sometimes come off as, he was a pretty decent guy. How else would he have friends like Skye? She was a chill girl, which he appreciated, and she obviously went along with his joking seamlessly. He had no problems with helping her out.
He pursed her lips as if considering Skye’s statement, taking his time before texting, ”Okay, I am. But that’s because you’re so pretty.” If it was any other guy, this may have counted as flirting, but Samson was keeping up his ball-busting as usual. Plus, he had a girl he loved and they were making things work again. It may not have been perfect, what with all the guilt he felt, but it was what he wanted. Harley was the best thing that had ever happened to him, especially when he learned that she wasn’t like the other girls he had the misfortune of dating. With his love life, either he or the girl he was dating screwed up big time and it was strange having such a long-lasting relationship. They had been together for over a year, not counting the little mishap with Holene. ”I’m not mean, I’m lovingly assholish.” After he typed this, he nodded as if to reinforce. Clearing the screen, he texted out next, ”Admit it, you wouldn’t like me as much if I wasn’t mean. You’re a masochist.”

Now in her Junior year, she'd have been pretty surprised if Samson could have helped her with most of the work she had to do. Of course, she supposed he could look in the textbook just as well as anyone else could and write out a bunch of answers, but that was less help and more of simply doing the work for her. It wasn't usually something she liked, either, not only ethically but also because it usually meant she'd never look at it and therefore she'd never learn it, and that was just... bad news when it came to exam time. She hadn't been above copying homework in the past, though. As long as it was something small, she didn't really mind at all. "Well, I could use a pack mule to carry a bunch of books from the library back here for me," she said, her brow wrinkled as if seriously considering this, but it was mainly a joke. Friends didn't turn their friends into pack mules -- even snarky ones like Samson, she thought with a smirk, but she didn't say it aloud.
He took a few moments before going on, and she watched him "think" in amusement. She doubted that it was taking any actual thought -- this wasn't a particularly profound conversation, after all. Somehow, she rarely had any kind of profound discussion with Samson. She laughed a bit when she saw his next text, though. "Smooth," she complimented, visibly amused, "clearly you've been well-trained." Again, she resisted the urge to pat him on the head like a puppy. "Very charming, though -- shame you have a girlfriend." This was, of course, entirely a joke. Age difference and other reasons aside, Samson was probably just a bit too much (too "lovingly assholish", maybe) for her. Plus, he was a good friend and that was that. "But then you're just admitting that you're mean --" she started, then stopped to grin at him in amusement at his next words after he cleared the screen again. "Oh, well. Looks like you caught me."

Samson rolled his eyes at the pack mule comment. It was one of his favorite expressions, he found, because it conveyed so much. Especially with Beatrice. Her antics often resulted in that kind of reaction from him. He actually couldn’t remember a time when he wasn’t a snarky asshole—it hadn’t just began to steel himself against his adoptive mother. Maybe it came from his parents, who shared a similar sense of humor. He wondered sometimes what kind of relationship they’d have if they were alive during his teenage years, if they’d be as relaxed as Beatrice when it came to his life. He didn’t linger long on this. He was happy with Beatrice, she was a good mother to him. She could never replace his real mother, but she was close to him in that way. No one could ever be replaced by anyone else in his mind. He tilted his head, giving the girl a withering look, his fingers moving along the keyboard. Another good thing with all the experience he had in typing—he didn’t even have to look at the keyboard. Like most people who text, he memorized all the keys. ”You have to stop comparing me to an animal, it’s debasing.”
That’s what she made him sound like, and it was very funny to him, even though he kept his expression smooth, even when he felt her hand on his head. Samson knew some people who detested even being touched, but he never minded it. Even thought those kind of people were weird, unless it was some kind of phobia they couldn’t control. ”Unrequited love is a bitch, ain’t it?” It made him think of Jolene, and he was kind of sorry for her. He had used her, that was horrible of him and he admitted that, but he wasn’t aware of her own feelings. The boy had simply assumed that she’d know given the fact hat it had been such a short time after breaking up with Harley. Actually, they hadn’t even broken up. There was just too much regret there. ”I’m not ashamed,” he texted out, ”And I guess you aren’t ashamed of your masochism. Now I understand our relationship. No need for Dr. Phil.”

If Skye were more easily intimidated, Samson's glares right then might have scared her off. Luckily, she was actually pretty difficult to intimidate, perhaps a reflex to being around her own alliance for so long -- some of them could be a little bit hostile. She could be too, when and if she wanted to be, but generally, Skye liked to be a decent person. Joking around with her friends was an exception, of course -- especially friends like Samson, whom she knew could handle it. That wasn't even really hostility anyway, just... something. She couldn't really explain it, but everyone seemed to be okay with it, at least so far, so she didn't really see an issue with carrying on. Straight-faced as always, she gave him an innocent but completely serious look. Skye wasn't really one to act cute. "But you make it so easy," she told him, as if this were something obvious that everyone -- let alone Samson -- should know.
She didn't bother putting on some kind of look of true woe, and so instead just fixed him with another serious stare. Skye was nearly always straight-faced, anyway. "It is. Sometimes I wonder how I'll go on in life," she pretended to confide in him. To outsiders, their conversation had to sound pretty weird, especially if they were only just listening in now. Then again, this was pretty standard for a conversation with Samson, so maybe they actually wouldn't think anything of it. To Skye, at least, the idea of liking Samson was a little weird. That, and, if she remembered correctly, he had girl issues of his own. She wasn't going to go prying her way into something that was his own business, though he'd always be welcome to share. "Hey, I feel no shame," she said with a smirk. "And what exactly is that relationship and when did you become the professional about it?" She quirked a brow at him.

Samson observed her, a pitying glance as if he could never return her love. He patted his chest, showing that he felt her pain, really felt it in his heart. Oh no, he was not a sympathetic person. Perhaps it was one of his downfalls. He just didn’t relate easily with people. Or maybe that was just what came in toe with being human. It wasn’t normal for him to meet sympathetic people, or maybe he just had bad experience. No, he knew it was because of the environment he was raised in. He grew up around the alliance, the Fires and Thunders. While the Fires may have been loyal as all get out, they were hardly sympathetic. And Thunders were worse—they lacked loyalty until it really counted, and mostly for themselves. He could count himself among them, and he was not ashamed. In his mind, it didn’t mind whether or not you understood someone’s tragedies and downfalls. In the end, it was about you. Of course, there were people who wormed their way through this sort of thinking—Beatrice, Harley, and Skye, for instance. If he grew up around the Earths, maybe. But then again, he’d have to be an Earth.
Perhaps it was his thinking—the fact that there were exceptions to his selfish rule—that made him able to joke around like this. At least he was self-aware. That wasn’t saying a lot, considering he made mistakes like anyone else. But at least it was better than being ignorant to his own ways. ”I’m an asshole, and that’s why you hang around me. Simple diagnosis” He let this statement stand for a while before clearing his screen. White again. Then more words. ”I’m pro at everything. It’s a shame that you can’t step up to my level. But that’s all right.” He leaned over and patted her knee consolingly, as if her lack of professional intel made her into a pet. He played the asshole well. But it wasn’t just playing. ”Anyway, I think you should be doing homework. Your lack of intellect is seriously concerning me.” …And he just didn’t let up. Of course not.

She decided to take the look on his face with a pinch of salt. This was Samson, after all -- not everything he did and said should be taken too seriously. Or seriously at all, for that matter, though the frown on her face might have suggested otherwise. "Are we positive I actually like being around you, though, or is it possible I just feel bad for you?" she pointed out skeptically, raising an eyebrow at him, assured in the idea that he wasn't going to take anything she said literally. Actually, at least lately, she didn't really say very much that was serious around Samson at all. Most days it was something like this, the snide remarks and always, always the back-and-forth. "Won't deny that you are an asshole, though." He could probably point out that this was the pot calling the kettle black, but Skye was pretty ready to accept that, if not a total asshole, she was... the archetypal Thunder, and when it came to making friends and being around other people, that might not be the best thing to be. But, at least, she was nice enough to strangers. It was friends like Samson she was generally a jerk to.
Skye rolled her eyes. Whatever Samson was good at (which, she was sure, was many things, though she would never tell him that in a million years for fear of feeding his ego) he definitely wasn't pro at everything. "Honestly, I'm pretty certain that I bypassed your level a long time ago," she told him in a very frank voice, though this was pretty far from the truth as well. She wouldn't consider herself any more skilled than the next person... though not unskilled either, so no one should get the wrong idea, especially not Samson, who'd never let her hear the end of it. "Hey, kid," she protested with a frown, shooting him a look. "I'm not the one who still needs a high school diploma here, go study or something." She looked affronted -- but, of course, wasn't. She was no genius, but she was definitely not letting Samson push her around about intellect... mostly because she didn't want to do homework, but also partly because that would just be letting him win, and speaking as a friend, that was not something she was allowing herself to do.
