Nell looked over her shoulder at the girl, the Fire student shaking with rage. She shut her eyes a moment, before turning back to the professor who was trying to figure out what had happened. ”I started it,” the Earth graduate said, stunningly calm for having been caught in a fire whip. She had to applaud the anonymous student—she'd never seen a trick like that pulled off so well.
She imagined the expression on the Fire's face at this point, the utter confusion that must have been crossing it. Nell continued seamlessly when the professor lifted his eyebrows. ”She didn't do anything, she was just defending herself. My powers kind of got out of hand.” It stabbed at her gut to say that, but her face stayed placid, calm as a lake on a summer day. Summer, now that would have been nice. She didn't let her mind wander to musings of the season, however.
The professor looked over at the Fire, and then back to Nell, who was trying not to touch the burn on her forearm. Could he believe that an Earth student of all people started a row in the courtyard? Apparently so, for he said, ”That means detention. What's your name?” She wasn't waiting for the Fire to step up, take the blame. She didn't expect anything like that to happen. ”Nell Shepherd,” she responded, and he nodded, leaving to go back and most likely write her up, hand the slip to whoever was in charge of detention that day.
She stood there for a moment before the student walked by and brushed shoulders with her, pushing her back. Nell sighed, before going to the mess hall. She didn't have to do what she did, the Fire fully deserved a detention, but she figured that ratting her out would have only gotten her an enemy. And besides, she was willing to talk the fall for such a thing. It was only in her nature, her design, right down to her DNA it must have been. She'd always defended others in place of herself, even when she shouldn't have.
Her project had been destroyed in the confrontation, but she would pick up on that later. The rest of the day was in relative peace. She took notes, laughed with friends, kept a look-out for Rafael, and ate snacks between classes. Her father having gone to the doctor, she decided to give him a little space now. Especially thanks to their argument. It was the same as any of their other ones, and Nell knew she would be the first one to sacrifice her pride and cave, but she still wanted to wait.
At the end of the day, she headed to the detention hall and slipped in, telling the supervisor who she was. She recognized some people in there, some were acquaintances and she greeted them as she chose a place to sit. An hour spent doing nothing, she did not look forward to that. She was the kind of person who could not sit still for long periods of time, save for watching a movie or reading a book. There was nothing to occupy her in this place, until she remembered her deck of cards. Looking to the girl next to her, she said, ”Hey, wanna play a game?” Then she blinked, letting out a chuckle. ”Sorry, kind of went Jigsaw on you.” She believed most people have seen the movie Saw. Holding up the deck, she said, ”A card game, I mean.”

I had happened again. She had forgotten her homework and that always seemed to lead to this situation. She would find something that was infinity more exciting to do then whatever homework she had been given. In this case it had been Biology, which just happened to be her worst subject! She had done what she would usually do, leave it to the last minute and after telling her teacher he had come up with a few things that she would have to do, considering the fact that this wasn’t the first time this had happened in this class. She would have to go into detention for a few days and she would have to spend an hour or so every now and again in a room on her own until she had finished the assignment. It was something that she could live with but it was the fact that she was currently missing out on what she could be doing. She had recently bought a few new games and all they were doing currently doing was sitting on her desk, in her room, gathering dust faster than you could re-charge your cure spell in Kingdom Hearts and that was she had to deal with until this things was finished, which could take forever in Kiya time!
So that is what she was currently doing. Sitting in detention with her phone in hand, reading about some her expansion packs that had come out recently and she would end up getting after this jail sentence was over and done with. To say that she was in a good mood wasn’t even close and it wasn’t going to take much for her to just crack and go all MMO on someone’s ass, because if she was going to miss out then shit was going to go down! Kiya knew in the back of her mind that that wouldn’t be the best thing to do at this point but it was also true that she would be at least 5 or so levels lower than the people that she would usually play with and that wasn’t good at all!
Kiya had been sitting down for about ten minutes before she had even had any sort of human interaction at all, though that doesn’t really happen on a regular basis at all! ”Hey, wanna play a game?” was heard from behind her and all she could do was just look behind her and see someone that she had seen around school every now and again. She may have looked familiar but she couldn’t really put her finger on it. ”Sorry, kind of went Jigsaw on you.” The girl had continued and that was when she realised the reference, Saw. She never really liked the movie but she knew that her brother did, so she would be seen watching it with him all the time. The boy didn’t think she would be able to sit through it and he was wrong, for once! “That’s alright,” Kiya said, stopping her silence and actually talk to the person, and it wasn’t until the person had replied that she knew what she had wanted in the first place. ”A card game, I mean.” Ohh, that made sense. “Yea, sure. That sounds better than anything this dude would make us do! My name is Kiya, by the way.” Kiya hoped that this person had had an idea on what to play, because Kiya really didn’t have a clue, though snap was something that she played all the time with her dad.

A naturally outgoing and eager person, she had no reservations about approaching someone, even if she should be a little more careful about that. In the Academy, you could never tell who may have been the enemy. She could befriend a Fire student and regret it later. Situations like that had happened before, but she still didn't learn from them. She didn't learn from much, actually, living purely in the moment could have its hinderances when it came to lessons that should have taught her not to be so eager to throw herself at somebody for the sake of friendship. Sprinkle in her deal with giving everyone she ever met the benefit of the doubt, and she was the gullible kind of person that could get herself in a lot of trouble. All the time. It was just her style.
So she figured that she was off to a good start when the stranger spoke to her and didn't just give her the cold shoulder. That was always the worst, left her feeling jilted. She was like a parasite that fed off the energy of those aroudn her, though when she thought of it that way, it made her sound bad. She wasn't a parasite, she liked to make people happy, not make herself happy. Her smile was bright with the response, taking over her face and not leaving room for much else. ”Fantastico. I like to believe I'm more entertaining than a detention supervisor, so thanks,” she hummed, honestly thrilled but trying not to let it show. She didn't want to betray that she waws kind of a freak about meeting new people and talking with them and this was playing a game. It was the equivalent of giving the Cookie Monster cookies, her and her games. Not so much of an addiction and it didn't prove to be too much of a problem.
As she shuffled the cards, her dexterity shown in the fact she fluidly moved them from hand to hand, she introduced herself as well. ”Nell. I'm college, and you know, I've been thinking that detnetion should be illegal at this point.” She shook her head, though she did not look bothered by the fact that she was trapped in here. She did not let much bother her, especially when she did not have anything planned that day. And she had nothing planned until later, so it worked out fine for her. Thinking of this, she smiled and shrugged. ”Ah well, can't change their minds.” Detention really was a high school deal, though, even though she did not know much about high school herself. She had only gone one year, and that was her entire experience. It was something only Josh—and her father, considering he raised her—knew about. Josh was the only one to know about anything regarding her past save for the one thing that anyone could get their hands on. Her worst kept secret.
As she finished shuffling, she asked. ”So what do you know how to play?” Her repertoire was expansive, she could cater to this stranger—Kiya--who in Nell's mind, was already a friend. It was how she worked, she decided that when she liked a person, they became a part of her family.

It was always something good for Kiya, meeting people and making new friends. It wasn't very often that it even happened because of how much time she actually spent inside and away from most other people. It may have seemed weird to other people but for some it was like second nature. But one thing that was true was the fact that she loved to play games. It was something that she used to do with her dad before he got really sick and they moved. He had always seemed to be away so she eventually just started playing with her brothers. It was the closest she got to gaming friends when she was that age, she was fine with it at least and her mother was fine as long as one of her brother was with her at all times. That was until she spent more and more time away from the family and at work because they had to live some how. Her elder brother, Richard, even stayed at home after graduating to get a job and help the family and bills and anything else. But now even he was about to move out of the family home to move in to an apartment with his girlfriend. Kiya had to step up with everything, so meeting someone new was just what she needed. A new friend to be able to make her thoughts leave and go away.
Nell. That was her name and she had made a point to start. This was going to be good. As far as she could currently see it was actually what she needed at this point. A distraction and a new friends. Two birds with one stone if you ask me and it was a great thing. So this was it, she was going to do it. "I actually agree. I don't see how detention is going to help anything at all!" It was true though. Kiya would spend a few days each week in detention because she wouldn't get her homework done or because she would sleep in class and she really didn't see how putting her in detention was going to change that fact what so ever. Changing the teachers mind would take the whole school to rally together and Kiya was pretty sure that that wouldn't happened because it would probably end up being and all out war on campus and that was really the last thing that she needed at this current point. Soon after her thoughts had been brought back to the task at hand. A game. Where everything had started and ended in her point of view. "Hmm, did you just want to play something simple? I don't know, how about SNAP?" It was one of her favorite card game, to be honest. Kiya could tell that Nell was going to be someone that she would continue to be friends with after this day was done.

Nell could not imagine what it would be like not to make friends easily. It wasn't that people liked her all the time, she didn't expect that from everyone she spoke to. She simply put herself out there, was usually the first to approach someone if she felt like it. There was no real reason behind it, she just liked to talk to people and it had never been any other way, even when she was not supposed to be talking to people. She could never be like her mother, and that was something that should reassure her. There was no way she could ever become like that. "Yeah, it's usually the same faces," Nell agreed with the girl, and then lifted her head up to look at Kiya. "Not that I'm in here often enough to know, I just have a few friends that usually end up getting in trouble." She didn't explain why she was in here right now. Her friends were the ones to inform her what usually goes on and she was the one to pick them up when they asked. She always liked to go out of her way for people, she loved lending a helping hand. She was one prone to random acts of kindness, even for strangers. It went so far as to her giving up anything for another person if they needed it. There was nothing she wouldn't want to do for another person.
Nell smirked as she shuffled the cards, lifting an eyebrow. She always looked like she was sharing a secret joke, because she tended to be smiling most of the time. It was her favorite, she couldn't help it. Add to that her sparkling eyes, and she looked like an imp ready to get into trouble. Though she was proud to say she usually did not end up in detention. "I could play just about anything." There was really no limit to her knowledge when it came to card games, she'd been playing since she was a little girl, and it was something she could rely on for being a constant. [color=95d2e1"But snap sounds good,"
she said. She finished shuffling before dealing them out, placing each card on one of their desks. Hopefully the supervisor wouldn't get too mad, but they usually left kids to their own devices. She would vegetate sitting in the room with nothing to do. Of course, she had apps to play with, books to read, homework to do. A lot of homework to do, considering they were the longest papers she had ever written. Sophomore year may not have been too difficult, but there was still a lot to do. "So what're you in for," Nell asked, and now it was like they were serving a prison sentence. That was pretty accurate, and Nell did not like to remember that a prison sentence was one a very real possibility for me.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

I was really weird. Before Kiya had moved to America and then to the Academy it had been a very different environment for her to be in, in general. It wasn’t just the weather or even the food, even though both of those where very different. It would have to have been the people in general. It was the different types of people that she had meet over the past couple of years and the amount of weirdness that has gone on when it came to actually gaining new friends in general. It wasn’t just that, it was times like now that she would meet a new person and that feeling was that. That feeling that you could just be yourself without having to worry about what people will say about you. “Same faces, almost same crimes, if you know what I mean.” Kiya really didn’t know how many times Nell had been in detention or even why she was in here in the first place but she did know that Kiya herself was always in here for the same things. She didn’t really seem to be someone that would be here very often but on the other hand either did Kiya. The only reason she would be in detention half the time would be because she forgot to do some homework and even now the teachers seemed to have just given up on her doing homework at all.
Ahh, SNAP! It had always been one of Kiya’s favourite past times when it came to the plain card games, when it came to just normal playing cards that is. It was one of those games that she would play in the hospital with her dad when the nurses would find out that they were playing video games in the hospital. SNAP was always the thing that they would do because it was so competitive; at least it was between the two of them. “Yay!” Kiya said while doing a little bit of a dance on the spot because she was cool like that. You could see the smile on her face when Nell started to shuffle the deck and hand out the cards, it was one of her favourite past times with her dad and she really couldn’t wait to start playing. It was at the point that she wait to just jump up and dance, it really didn’t help that she had had so much sugar before actually coming to the detention. It was finally getting to her head. “Homework, I never really remember to do that sort of stuff. What about you?” Hear other people’s stories was very interesting to Kiya and she was always wanting to hear about other people’s stories and what they had gone through over their lives.

Nell snorted when Kiya did her little dance, and then laughed when she explained why she had been put in detention. "Yeah, who even needs homework?" she said facetiously. She did hers, of course, and not only because she knew Josh would not approve if she didn't. She didn't mind school one bit, not like some of her friends with their gripes. She loved school, and a lot of it stemmed from the fact that it was because she'd never gone before. She never had the chance to be a child and carry around a lunchbox and play on the blacktop. She had been "homeschooled" by her father because she had never been given the opportunity for education. And so she approached the institution with appreciation, excitement about claiming an opportunity that she'd never been given before. Isn't that the way it was supposed to work, appreciating what you never had? "The only reason I do it is so I stay out of detention, but I guess that didn't work, huh." She was sitting here, after all, practically bored out of her mind. Nell didn't get bored often because she was always doing something, but it wasn't like she had anything to do in detention except sleep. And she only slept when she felt it necessary.
Now how was she going to explain this one? She didn't like being dishonest (of course, she lied for this person for their benefit) but she knew it wouldn't sound right to this girl. Welp, she decided that honesty would be the best policy. "I took the rap for a Fire student who start a fight with me," Nell said, shrugging. She didn't want it to sound like she was being a hero or anything, because that's not what she was trying for. So, with an extra dose of sarcasm, she said, "I'm a big fan of martyrdom." And she guessed she actually was. Why else would she do these things when other people might not even care about it? "Good thing I don't have anything to do right after school. Any of your plans get interrupted?" It really sucked, because Nell remembered before when she got detention with Poppy and she had to visit her father afterward. Luckily, her father was feeling better now that he was being treated for the parasite he had. Nell was phenomenally happy that it hadn't turned out to be cancer. Maybe she should have learned her lesson from him and be more liberal about doctor visits, but for one, her immune system was great. For another, she just never learned her lesson, not even from the time she got the flu because she didn't want to accept that she was sick.

Nell had a really good point. As far as Kiya was concerned homework was a waste of time and there was no reason to do it because it was just really, really boring! On the other hand she did understand that it was important and she knew that if she did actually remember to do it one of these days she may actually be able to get ahead and be able to hand some of her homework in one of these days, but that was never going to happen. “None, THAT’s who!” Kiya said with a smile on her face and a part of her really hoped that her teacher did hear her because she was just really weird like that. It was something that all of her online friends had always gotten her to do because she would continue to get behind. Unfortunately it had happened a few times, where she had chosen to do things other than her homework for so long that she had only ended up with one weekend to do everything in her assignment. When she thought about it, it was a little sad but it was still something that she need to do to be able to get through both the end of this year and all of her final year of high. “Distractions are everywhere and you never know where they are going to pop up, that is the most annoying thing!” Well it was, it wasn’t like she was going to lie about something as truthful as that considering is was one of the things that she knew the most about.
It was amazing what some people would do and with just that comment Kiya could tell that Nell wasn’t a Fire or a Thunder student at the school, which was just a little bit of a ‘whew’ moment. She knew that you couldn’t judge a book by its cover, or a person by their element but it was always something that was in the back of her mind because there weren’t many people around the school in those two elements that she actually got along with! “That sounds soft of awesome, in a way, hopefully it won’t be for nothing then!” It was something that she wouldn’t do, that was for sure. If someone started something with her Kiya really didn’t know how she would react. It wasn’t something that happen often enough for her really to know what would happen. Though as soon as they had started to think about what she was missing out on because she was here, she really could only wonder. “I am not missing out on anything much, though I do have to go straight into work as soon as I leave from here. Got to get paid so you can live if you know what I mean.. Hmmm..” As soon as she started to think about all she could think about was that little bit of nap that she was missing out on because she had to come to detention. Now that was more annoying than anything that had happened to her today!

Nell lifted her arms up in what could best be described as a gesture of huzzah. Or maybe watching The Holy Grail one too many times had her thinking in Arthurian terms. ”Rebellion of the students!” she said, looking over when she noted that her voice had been bordering on outdoor volume. For a moment, she had forgotten she was trapped in this prison called detention. She could deal because it was not actually a tiny space. Though she would like to get up and move around. Staying in one place for too long a time made her antsy, unless she was concentrating hard on something like a test or a paper. She was not like an overexcited child who needed to burn off energy. ...Okay, she was, but she knew how to behave herself unlike a lot of children who needed to be reared. ”You are like my soul sister,” Nell said, shaking her head. ”Homework just seems so unimportant when there is food to eat or shows to watch.” She always tried her best not to procrastinate, though, because when she did there was always the nagging at the back of her head forcing her to go back and work on whatever it was she'd abandoned. It certainly helped with her studies, alongside with the fact that she was an attentive person.
Even though it may have just been an aside comment, not as meaningful to the speaker as it was to her, Nell flashed a bright smile at the girl. She always got this tightness in her gut when people were nice to her, like it was so foreign and wonderful and she couldn't help that she wanted to lift her shoulders and grin like an idiot as she squealed. Luckily, her reactions were a little less emotional than that. ”I guess. I mean, I would have done it anyway. It would have turned into something much bigger had I ratted.” Then other people would get involved and the Fire would have marked her as an enemy and that was just all too much. Nell didn't want to make enemies, she hated the idea of hating anyone or anyone hating her. It happened, though, she couldn't love anyone without the flipside of hate, though she did not do it fully. It was impossible for her to actually hate someone without any other emotions worming in. Rafael came the closest, however, because he had possibly no redeeming qualities. He was simply lucky she was a pacifist, otherwise their relationship would have made a turn for the worse long ago. ”Don't the teachers understand that we have jobs?” Nell said, shaking her head. ”I'm in college, there should be no detention, but I guess I gotta live with it.” She certainly was not one to complain because she wanted to get by as easily as possible. ”So where do you work?” Maybe it was somewhere that Nell went a lot, and that would have been funny considering she'd never seen the girl before.

Laughing was all that Kiya could really think of doing at this point, this was just one of those moments that Kiya could tell that this current friendship was something that was going to last for a while after this day was over. Which, you know, was always a good thing to have a feeling about right. “Let’s have ALL of the Rebellion!” Was the only reaction that she could have to that last comments as well! It wasn’t like she was in just a weird state of mind or anything because she always seemed to be in one of those, it was the fact that the teacher just didn’t seemed to say that they were talking about what they just happened to be talking about and that was the funniest thing that was happening at this point, other than what they were talking about at the current point though. It wasn’t like she knew people that had the same view on everything thing, as she did, it was more that fact that she already had a feeling that the two of them where going to be friends and this jest seemed to be the icing on the theoretical cake. “Soul Sisters, hmm, I like the sound of that!” Well, it did have a good ring to it, she had to admit. “Homework just seems to be that, there are so many more things that I could be doing instead of that at any moment!” Well, she had to admit that she would rather do anything than homework at any moment, unless she was able to link it to something that she really like to do like her video games or something along those lines.
Ratting on someone was always something very different to what it seemed to be. There is always that time where you know that you probably should rat out the person but it is either that that person is one of your friends or it is that it is someone that really intimidates you and would probably punch you out if you were to rat them out at all! It wasn’t like she hadn’t ratted anyone out about anything or anything, she was a leader after all. She felt as if she had to tell someone if she knew anything about anyone, it was just that feeling. “I defiantly know what you are saying!” Well, she did. She was guilty of doing that, so she really couldn’t talk! As soon as the subject had turned to job and her job in particular she couldn’t help but smile, it might have only been a little while since she had started but she still liked working there. “I know right, I have enough in my plate with stuff happening at school with my leader stuff and my job that teacher suddenly on my back isn’t the best thing in the world.” Though, she had to admit that as soon as Nell had asked her where had worked she couldn’t help but smile, “I work at Timmies! I only started a few weeks ago, got to help the family back home. A girl has got to do what she has to do, if you know what I mean!”
