Skye had been having a perfectly normal day, free of any particular issues. Honestly, that was kind of amazing and lucky in itself, because there always did seem to be something ridiculous going on in this place. Skye didn't like to get involved in other people's personal squabbles -- she only very rarely intervened with anything they did. The problem, she guessed, was that when she broke this rule and got involved, it tended to blow up in her face. Things had been fine in the year thus far until she'd stopped those Water kids from beating on Adam Rizzo a few days ago -- well, that in itself had been easy enough, because they were seriously far too easily intimidated (not that she was complaining). She'd thought and kind of hoped that this would be the last she saw of them, because really it wasn't like she'd actually laid a hand on them, or even attempted to use her powers. She had been walking today on her way to the mess hall for lunch, however, heading down the stairs outside to take her usual shortcut from class -- when she hit a patch of ice on the second to bottom step, and taken a serious slip down. She put her arms out to absorb most of the fall, but her bag, swung over her left shoulder, weighed her down on that side, and she landed on it hard.
Well, that was kind of her fault for wearing nice boots that weren't too suited for winter that day, and she might have thought that it was nothing out of the ordinary. The loud, raucous laughing and the small gang of teenagers running in the opposite direction told her that this wasn't the case, however. She scowled, got up, and had half a mind to go after them, but... it wasn't even worth it. Plus, she discovered once she tried to pick up her bag, which had fallen off into the nearby snow -- all eloquence or pretense aside, her wrist hurt like a bitch. She swore under her breath, making a note to herself to get those kids back once she ensured that they were really who she thought, and picked up her bag with her other hand. Skye could deal with this problem with her wrist -- it wasn't even her strong hand. Okay... her elemental class later in the day was going to be a little bit tricky without the full use of both her hands, but that was just the kind of thing she had to deal with. She decided to just head to lunch, and then she had a bit of time off before her next class and she could go back to her dorm and... take an hour-long shower and plot (theoretical, very theoretical) murder. By the time she'd finished lunch, however, things hadn't gotten much better, and her wrist had swollen up. Oh, fuck. It had been a while, believe it or not, since Skye had actually managed to hurt herself, but when she couldn't even lift an empty food tray in the mess hall without it aching, she decided that it was probably out of her hands.
Skye knew the way to the medical wing, though she hadn't been there in quite some time. There were probably people who frequented the place, got hurt so often that they became regulars in a way. Skye wasn't one of such people, so it wasn't even surprising when she entered and found only someone there in a doctor's coat, but she didn't recognize him at all. Luckily for her pride, at least, there was nobody else there. "Hey... I, uh, fell on my wrist," she said, once the young man there looked over at her. "And it's swelling up. It's probably nothing, but could you, um... check it's not sprained or anything, please?" She raised her left arm to indicate the minor injury. It was probably nothing -- she hoped it was nothing -- but she also knew that it was better to be safe than sorry, and small injuries could become bigger problems under strain.
(...basically she pissed off some waters a while ago and she suspects that they might have something to do with the ice she slipped on, lol. sorry this post was a little bit all over the place. )

Truthfully, Avery never really had any days where he wasn't doing something in his office. It ranged from patching up wounds for an injured student to keeping himself occupied by making up his own games to pass the time. The latter was what today was, much to his dismay, and Avery was just absolutely thrilled. As if it wasn't boring enough, slow days like these drained Avery of his energy and he just got lazy. Something he really should fix, but he felt like he was in solitary confinement. The loneliness and silence in his office was suffocating but in Avery's current state, all he could do was recline in his computer chair (which had wheels!) and stare up at the ceiling, absentmindedly crumpling up irrelevant pieces of paper to shoot in the trashcan across the room. Well, at least he hoped they were irrelevant. Avery really didn't feel like rummaging through the trash for papers that would've probably already been mixed in with his lunch.
Once he had his ammunition all ready, he scooted back a few feet and positioned himself right in front of the trashcan. "Alright..." he said, his tone focused and determined as he eyed his target. In one swift flick of the wrist, the paper ball flew out of his hand and unfortunately, veered too far off into the left. Avery pouted childishly, taking another paper ball from the pile and readying himself again. He did it about 15 times more until he managed to use up all of his ammunition. Avery groaned, throwing his head back in pure laziness. Great, he actually had to get up to pick up the mess he left. Oh how bothersome. Lazily, Avery flopped off his chair, and in the adamant want not to actually get up, crawled on the floor to reach the mess as he grumbled to himself.
Avery was not a sadistic man by any means, nor a horrible man. He cringed at the thought of inflicting pain on others by his own hands, but on days like these, he wished that a violent fire would just unleash their wrath on students so he could have something to do. He laughed at himself, realizing how bad that was to just even think about it, and tossed all papers in the trash. He was already bored of this game, and besides, what was the point of being lazy when he actually had to get up? Avery sighed, crawling on the floor again, to reach his chair. Pulling himself up (which was pretty difficult, because the floor was very slippery, and well, the chair had damn wheels), Avery reclined in his chair once again, staring up at the ceiling. He was too preoccupied in searching for shapes in the ceiling, however, to hear the door opened, so he was more than startled when a voice crept up on him.
Avery jumped off clumsily from his chair, straightening himself, before processing what the girl was saying. He hadn't recognized her, and after a brief moment of looking at her face, Avery finally responded. "Sure," he chirped brightly, leading her to sit in one of the chairs. Once she was settled, Avery gently took the girl's hand in his, lifting it slightly so it was on his eye level. "Yeesh, that is some bad swelling," he said, mostly to himself. Avery glanced up at the girl, his eyes humorous and his lips smirking. "By the way, I'm Dr. Kael." He paused, shook his head, and said, "On second thought, just call me Avery." Avery really hated any professional honorifics. It just made him feel...old. "I don't think I've seen you around here before. Would a pretty lady like you grace me with her name?" he asked, still smirking as he reached over to the mini fridge for an ice pack. With Avery's flirting, he didn't mean much of it--rather, it was something that was natural, ahem, too natural when he conversed on a daily basis.

Skye wouldn't say that she had a temper much like any (and by any she meant pretty much all) of the Fires she knew, but she was... easily irritated, in mild terms. Rather, she had certain expectations of herself and of other people, and one of those expectations was that anyone who introduced himself as a doctor and was dressed like a doctor and in practice as a doctor should, of course, know what the heck he was talking about. Maybe she would have been slightly more willing to tolerate it if she were having a good day, but that was kind of the problem. This wasn't exactly what Skye would consider a good day, not with Water kids running around causing her to hurt herself or... things like that. "Yes. It is." Skye could tell that it was pretty bad swelling, after all, and she didn't need a doctor to tell her that much. She could have figured it out for herself if that was the full extent of the issue. She kept the tone polite, though -- it probably wasn't a good idea to annoy any kind of medical practitioner. He seemed cheerful, at least, which might have been a bonus. Skye didn't have anything against cheerfulness.
Dr. Kael... Avery. She tossed the names around in her head, nodding, deciding that for now she would be friendly, because at least he didn't seem completely incompetent... and at least he wasn't rude. Skye wasn't the nicest person by any means, but rudeness to strangers just seemed completely unnecessary and stupid. "Avery it is," she said, though it somehow seemed a little too informal, too personal. What kind of wackjob doctor asked to be called by their... first name? She was assuming it was a first name. Avery Kael. Once he'd turned to reach over to the miin-fridge, she shifted a little bit where she stood, uncertain of what she should do. Then her wrist twitched a little, and she remembered that leaving and trying to take care of this herself would probably be a very bad idea. Skye wasn't quite that good, thanks. "I'm... Skye Ford," she introduced, still being nice but deciding that just a first name on its own would have been too... personal, again. The thing was she wouldn't have even minded, personally, but she didn't miss the smirk or the tone of voice -- or, probably most obviously, being called a "pretty lady". Well... Skye wasn't going to turn down a compliment, at least, but quite honestly, Avery, she had places to be later in the day and (though it was admittedly flattering or something) she didn't have time to sit here and make nice with the Academy's... doctor, if he was really a doctor. "But... what do you think about the whole wrist thing?" she asked, trying to re-direct attention back onto her actual, uh, injury. That was his job, after all.
(sorry that she isn't... talking much. :3 yet.)

Avery bit his tongue as she replied to him, slightly amused by her tone. It was cut and clean, straight to the point, polite--but there was a slight edge to it and Avery could just tell she was either a fire or a thunder. He guessed his observation of swelling was a rather obvious thing for him to say, so he sucked in breath and nodded. He didn't want to say anything snarky either; no use in spiting a patient who could probably hurt him. Avery was a klutz when it came to his own powers and it's not like he'd actually intentionally hurt a student. "For now we'll wrap it up, but come back in a few weeks to see how it's doing," he said, and he reached over to his desk to get a roll of gauze to wrap up her wrist. Avery paused however, and with the roll of gauze still in his hands, he asked, "You probably don't want to, but mind telling me how this happened?" Avery kept his tone light and smirked at her. "Sorry, it's standard procedure. Wouldn't want a pretty lady to be upset with me." It was true--Avery was pretty much forced to ask how his patients got injured, but it's not like he enforced it. Whatever lame excuses his patients threw out, he accepted. He remembered how embarrassing it was to admit how he got beat up, or how enemies from the other alliance played a prank on him, or just how clumsy he was that he actually hurt himself. Not the best feeling.
He gave her a cheeky smile as she called him by his first name. Some students just stuck to calling him 'Dr. Kael.' Not that he minded too much, but could he really be considered a doctor? Bleh, sounded way too professional for his tastes. If they were going to give him a title, as least call him nurse...'Nurse Kael' or 'Nurse Avery' just had a better ring to it. "Sorry, I'm being rude. Sit down!" he said as if it was the stupidest mistake in the world. He was a flirty guy, but he had some manners. Avery pulled out a chair, his hand on his abdomen as he bowed, smirking. "After you~" and Avery sat across from her, settling the ice pack gently on her wrist. "Skye Ford," he repeated as he unraveled some gauze. "Pretty name, Miss Ford." Avery then took off the ice pack, wrapping her wrist as gently and tightly as he could with the gauze before placing the ice pack on it once again. "Well," Avery began, sighing, "Considering the huge amount of swelling, you probably have a sprained wrist." He gave her a cheerful smile then, patting her lightly on her head. "Just remember to ice your wrist often until the pain goes away--oh, and to always elevate it as often as you can--oh, oh! And do not do any heavy activity, especially anything that involves using your elemental powers." He looked at her sternly for a second, before once again breaking out into a smile. "Failure to do so will only make things worse, but hey, on the bright side, that would mean we get to see each other again~"

She nodded simply at his advice, then realized that he'd turned just in time to miss this nod and so she said instead, "I'll remember that." She'd... write it down later, or something. Luckily she'd still be able to do that without much trouble because it was her left wrist, but she didn't like not being able to use any part of her body, even though she knew that it was probably really minor in this case and it would go away. She didn't answer his question right away, though -- it made her think back to those Water kids, and she had half a mind to just leave the medical wing, hunt them down, and... and... okay, she didn't know what would be fitting, but she really hoped for their sakes that it hadn't really been them. Skye was pulled back slightly when he called her "pretty lady" again, and okay, she felt a little flicker of annoyance, even though she knew that it really honestly shouldn't bother her at all. If he really was a doctor, though -- or even a nurse or medical assistant or whatever the hell he was -- she felt like the man should have a little more... something. She wasn't even sure, now! She should probably answer his question, though. "I just slipped on the ice outside and fell on it, it bent backwards." The ice may or may not have been put there specifically for her by some Water kids, she didn't say. "I thought it'd be okay until... This." She would have lifted her wrist to show him what exactly "this" was (even though it was obvious), but it was probably best not too move it too much.
For some reason, she wasn't sure she liked that cheeky expression. Maybe she'd stick to calling him "Dr. Kael" after all, if he was just going to smile like that all the time instead. It somehow seemed rude to call people by anything other than their preferred names, though. No... there was no need for that. "No, no, it's fine," she started, but he pulled out a chair and she sat as prompted, reminding herself that he was a doctor (or something) so it was a little different, after all, than just having anyone telling her what to do. It was weird, though, how young he was. He couldn't have been more than a few years older than she was, not that she could tell. "Thanks, but I didn't exactly choose it myself." It was probably as close to a joke as she had gotten or was going to get in this case. Just keep it light, Skye. She honestly just wanted to leave and go back to her dorm and sleep -- she was so disgruntled now thanks to all that had happened -- but she was in no position to just walk out while he had the gauze on her wrist and all. Plus, she probably didn't have the time to do so anymore. She did still have a class later. "Please don't touch my hair," she said, a little irritably -- it was only partly because of the hair, but the other part was that she just didn't like being treated like a kid or a puppy or something. Excuse him. She let him continue anyway, though, deciding that he seemed to know what he was talking about even if he sounded more like an excitable child than any kind of medical professional. All of it made sense, and she was with him pretty much up until the very end. "Wait. Wait, no elemental powers? Are you serious?" He probably wouldn't joke about that. "I can't just... not use it, isn't there a way to do something so that I can still use the element? Aren't you a doctor or something?" She knew that she was grasping at straws, though, and she would have probably been clenching both her fists if it didn't hurt the one wrist to do so. She found that her nails were digging a little bit into the palm of her other hand either way, and she willed herself to calm down. It didn't necessarily work. She probably sounded like a hot mess right now -- whatever she sounded like in her own head, in the real world it probably translated to something way more bitchy and angry.

"You better," he warned, but his face was anything but threatening. "Or I'll have to hunt you down myself~" Avery was wrapping her wrist, but glanced up at her to smirk briefly, before it was replaced by a joking grin. Making a bad first impression was usually Avery's forte, so lately he's been trying to tone it down by making sure the other person knew he was joking, especially with the growing amount of fire and thunder patients. Even after graduating from the Academy and being a lot older than most of the students, Avery found himself still scared of them. Their quickness to be angry and irritated put him on guard and even though they knew better than to hurt him and he probably could easily overtake them...it scared him. Avery was bullied back in his Academy days, so he naturally gained a fear from them. Skye obviously wasn't an exception. If Avery hadn't known any better, then he'd say one of the windows were open due to it being so cold."Ah, I see," he said as if he understood. "You don't seem to be the type to be clumsy," he pointed out, but he stayed quiet after that. What was this feeling? Intimidation? Avery bit his lower lip, his eyebrows knitting together. All he knew is that he didn't want to push any wrong buttons.
The sides of Avery's lips tugged upwards and he paused for a second, slightly amused. What she said sounded like a joke, but in the tone of voice she used, it was slightly comical. Kind of reminded Avery of Josh, who often helped around the medical wing. He and Avery got along fine, but sometimes it was hard to differentiate between joking and being serious due to Josh's stoic nature. "Oh, sorry," he said, slightly taken aback as he recoiled his hand. For the first time in a while Avery felt flustered and he could feel the heat rising up in his cheeks in embarrassment. "It's a habit," Avery admitted, giving her a sheepish smile. It was true--this was just normal to him, even to strangers, which in this case was Skye. He never meant any harm with any of it because it was a natural thing for him, but he guessed that not everybody would be able to get used to it. And besides, the slightly irritated tone scared Avery a little. Oh yeah, he was totally a grown man. "Umm, I'm hardly serious, but yes," he chirped brightly, though after he said it he knew he should've toned down just a bit. Avery knew that not being able to use your powers was like a blow to the ego; you'd be practically target practice for an enemies. He was a bit thrown off for a second (this was pretty much the most she had talked to him since she got here) and Avery blinked for a few moments to finally register what to say. "Uh, y-yeah, I'm a doctor," he stuttered. Smooth. "But that doesn't mean I can magically fix your wrist without having it rest first," Avery explained carefully. "Using your elemental powers will only put a strain on your wrist, which could potentially make the injury much worse." Oh great, Skye was upset. He pursed his lips and stood up from his stool grudgingly, walking over to the cabinet in the corner and pulled out a lollipop from his secret jar. He walked back over to Skye and holding it out in arm's length, Avery said, "If it helps, it's strawberry flavored~"

She decided momentarily that he wasn't so bad a guy, this... Avery Kael. Well, he was a little offbeat, but other than that he was okay, besides being totally weird. She wondered what his element was -- nobody worked at the Academy that wasn't an elemental, so he had to be something... but she couldn't place what. He probably wasn't a Fire or a Thunder, though, but they were what she knew best. It was hard to tell otherwise. Waters and Earths were all so... friendly, and the pathetically small number of them that she genuinely liked -- not just tolerated or was indifferent about either way -- hadn't really been enough to change her mind about them overall. It wasn't just Waters and Earths, though. Skye was really just very negative about people on the whole. Her fellow Thunders weren't even always exceptions. "Good luck with that," she said, giving him a skeptical look, but her tone was lighter than it had been thus far, and that was... probably quite as much as he was going to get. At his next words she felt the need to step in and... defend herself or something, sort of. "I'm... usually not." She wasn't, actually. That was pretty true. Skye kind of liked pretty shoes too much to be clumsy enough to trip over her own two feet. "It was slippery outside. Ice on the steps." That much was true. She didn't feel the need to get other people personally involved in her problems, and especially not when the person was a stranger and when she didn't even know for sure if she was correct in her assumptions about those kids. (She was pretty sure, though...)
It was an almost nice moment, honestly, or at least one in which she was starting to feel a little bit comfortable (apart from the entire sprained wrist business). Then it was quickly ruined by his touching her hair... or more accurately, it was ruined by her irritation. She was easily bothered by things. "It's fine," she said, but her tone was a little bit clipped. Really, "it's fine" just meant that she wasn't going to hunt him down and kill him in his sleep or something... Skye wasn't actually capable of that violence anyway, though. She could always play this particular instance off like she just really cared about her hair or something -- which wasn't entirely untrue, and it was way easier to explain. Subconsciously, her teeth gnashed together when he said that he was hardly serious, but she didn't interrupt, just let him think over his words before he spoke. Well, he might have been a doctor, but he was seriously awful with words, if the brief stuttering was anything to go by. In her annoyance she didn't really care to think of particular justifications for his nerves or whatever they were, but at least she listened to his explanation... and okay, she wasn't an unreasonable person. She was easy to annoy, obviously, but she really wasn't the type to go on rampages or anything. Though what there was of a temper in her had flared up so quickly, she was also quick to come back down, and she couldn't deny it -- now that she thought about it, it was probably the stuter that had gotten her. She was maybe a little bit intimidating -- not all that tall, but clearly one of the oldest at the Academy, her cold demeanour probably betraying her right away as a Thunder -- and she had definitely played this up a couple of times. Did she really want people to be scared of her, though? She shifted uncomfortably. Skye didn't usually go through such crazy mood changes, really, she'd swear it, but if she were to tell Avery, he probably wouldn't even believe her at this point.
"Uh." Skye was good with words most of the time, too. She had no idea what to say in this case. She was maybe just a little too proud or... something. "No, I know... you're right." It was a weird thing to admit, though, but she'd kind of been out of line in this case. She really probably shouldn't cast doubt on other people's abilities to perform their jobs -- she was just a girl who was still in college, herself. She also probably shouldn't yell at him for something stupid like that when she knew, alright, that not straining her wrist more was a very good idea unless she wanted to actually have it out of use for much longer. Skye just looked away, staring evenly at her wrist to kind of refocus herself in a way. She wasn't sure it worked, but by the time she had looked back up expecting to see him there, he was over somewhere in the corner fiddling around with something, and then he came back with... a lollipop. Part of her wanted to think that he was treating her like a kid again -- the other part of her said, Candy! This part of her was a traitor or something, because this was probably the part that showed on her face -- her eyes lit up a little, at least, she was pretty sure. "Uh... thank... you," she said uncertainly, but she slowly reached out an arm and took it gingerly from him, noticing as she did so that he'd kept his distance this time, no longer trying to pat her on the head or something. She said the first thing that came to mind in an attempt to diffuse the situation (after she'd definitely been the one to make it this way in the first place). "You don't have to stand... all the way over there, I wasn't really mad, just..." She fidgetted with the lollipop now in her hand. "I have a class later, so. An elemental class, I mean." She didn't know whether he had attended college at the Academy or not, but the elemental classes were always seriously intense by this point.
(lol i know i say this every time i'm just super lazy tbh but feel free not to match -- i know a lot of this was skye talking to herself in her head so it's not really... anything pertinent that he'd need to reply to. XD)

Avery cleared his throat, and if he had a tie on he'd loosen it right about now. He was probably the most awkward person to ever step foot in the Academy--he shamelessly flirted no matter who you were, was overly affectionate in the border-lining pedo kind of way, and well, his mind was in the gutter most of the time. He brought on the atmosphere himself but to say he enjoyed the result afterwards...eh. Of course due to his bright and cheerful personality he'd try to mend it and at times it would work, but he can't say the bitter aftertaste of it was any better. Avery would be lucky if anyone tried to play along with him, and in this case, even with Skye's attempt to lighten her tone, he still felt a little intimidated. Thankful nonetheless, but still intimidated. Especially with the way she was looking at him. If only he was a turtle--he'd be hiding in his shell right about now. And that was one of Avery's problems (amongst many); despite his outgoing personality, he lost his confidence fast. With Skye, it had been shot down before he could even display it. "Ugh, they really need to fix that," he sighed, shaking his head. Avery smirked a bit, biting his lip to keep himself from laughing as he recalled what happened in the morning while on his way to the medical wing. He had slipped and fell right on his butt. Thankfully no one saw that but in truth, he wouldn't have at all minded. It was hilarious and Avery spent a good ten minutes lying there laughing (and wincing at his butt pain) at himself. He was sure he had a big butt bruise and he shifted on his stool at the thought of it. Ow. Oh yeah, definitely a bruised butt.
Avery often seemed to ruin good moments. Alright, this wasn't exactly a good moment, but at least she seemed okay with him--well, at least until he patted her on the head. But hey! In his defense, it was just in Avery's nature. It was like, programmed into his brain or something. So when Skye replied to him in her clipped tone, reassuring him that it was fine, he pursed his lips, suddenly resenting the overly affectionate side of him. As weird as it sounded, Avery often thought of the students at the Academy as small, fluffy animals. They were cute, but could be deadly if you did something wrong. "Forgot for a second. Girls. Hair. They don't like to be touched. Got it!" Avery flashed her a quick thumbs up with a cheeky grin before going back to wrapping her wrist. At this point he figured that his usual ways were not going help this situation, so he stayed quiet after that. "Alright! All patched up and ready--ooh, wait!" He jumped up from his stool (somehow losing his footing and slightly tripping over his own two feet) and began rummaging through his desk. "Here we go!" Avery gave her a sling for her arm, giving her an apologetic smile. "It's good to keep your arm elevated." He hesitantly (and reassuringly) patted her arm. Force of habit, but at least he didn't pat Skye's head. Again.
One part of Avery was bracing himself for another backlash and on instinct, he leaned away slightly. He was good at reading emotions, but he was not expecting for Skye's next reply. He nodded once, slowly returning back to his original posture. "Mhm!" he replied cheerfully, though he really wasn't sure what to say next. Ugh, Avery needed a break after this. "It's alright," he said after a moment of hesitation. "I know how it is. Back when I as in the Academy and I couldn't use my water powers, I all but tore up the room," Avery laughed, shaking his head as he remembered a past memory. He was a very secluded person in his school days, and because of that, he was bullied. Without his abilities, he wouldn't have been able to defend himself. And that in itself was torture. "You're welcome!" he chirped, slightly relaxed (probably more than he should be) after he saw what he thought was at least some light in Skye's eyes flickering. Ah, the power of candy. It brought out the best in people. "Oh...oh, I know," he stuttered again sheepishly, but his tone was bright. Okay, so maybe he was overreacting slightly by keeping his distance, but better safe than sorry? Avery scrunched up his nose when she mentioned elemental class. Oh, the memories. The nostalgic, terrifying memories. "I can write you a note!" he suggested, reaching for his pen and post-its, but then he paused. "Or I can just escort you, nothing wrong with taking time out of my schedule for a lady~"

Skye knew that she could be a little bit cold, or aloof, or... something. It really wasn't in her nature in the slightest to open up to the other people, certainly not random strangers she'd just met who happened to be qualified medical professionals or something of the like. She was also pretty sure that this sort of habit of hers was only intensified by being at school -- not school in itself with classes and the like, but... the Academy. If she had to explain it, she'd probably say that this whole alliance system fucked with her brain or something -- well, she might say it more eloquently, but that was pretty much the gist of it. It wasn't even that Skye liked to make excuses. The long and short of it was that it was weird, being thrown into a place where generalizations and stereotypes were all people cared to know before passing judgment -- and it didn't even matter if those stereotypes were true or not. Over time, it was definitely easier to do as people expected. Plus, she'd realized that she hated a vast majority of high schoolers, and the castle was of course full of them. She really thought sometimes that she should have gone to college elsewhere. "There's probably nothing they can do about the weather," she said, pushing her own thoughts aside. That was way too long-winded and annoying to think about when she was seriously just discussing the steps outside being slippery in winter. There was nothing deep about that.
At least he seemed... understanding, or something, enough of her not to do it again or insist that it wasn't a big deal or something like that. People could be jerks like that sometimes. Skye decided that maybe he wasn't so bad, or at least not an assohle in that sense. Plus, he stopped talking afterward, and she kind of felt bad (but not bad enough, obviously) for thinking that it was definitely an improvement. It wasn't so much that she disliked him, or didn't want him (or other people) talking to her, but she was very much the type to want to sit around and wallow in her own bad feelings or something. That was also probably a terrible habit. She kept quiet too, not saying anything until later when he spoke again, though she did almost smile, amused, when he almost tripped over... nothing. It seemed mean to laugh, though. "Oh." She hadn't even thought that she might need a sling, but then again she'd been hoping that this really had been nothing. Apparently she wasn't lucky enough for that. "Thanks. I guess I can deal with that." From very basic first aid training when she'd been younger, she knew how to put on a sling (knew how to make her own, in fact, but that was much, much more difficult than just putting on a proper one), and she did so with only minor issues. She didn't ask him for help, didn't want to... but at least she didn't say anything when he patted her arm, maybe because this time it did feel more like reassurance than like a condescending attitude.
He seemed to return slightly back to normal, or at least more normal than he had been before all silent. Then again, it wasn't like Skye actually knew what he was like most of the time. It had been a pretty long time since she'd had real reason to visit the medical wing. Even when it got to violence (which it did seem to every other week in this place) she had become very capable of holding her own. This entire thing with Avery was just a mess of two many things happening all at once, on top of apparently having a sprained wrist now too. "Yeah. It's a pretty rough time. So limited," she said. There had been few times Skye had been physically hurt to the point of not being able to use her elemental powers, except when she'd been in ninth grade, but everything could have caused her to lose control of them at that time. She had come a long way since then -- most everyone older had. So he's a Water. For some reason this news didn't even surprise her in the slightest. She wished she could say that she got along with most Waters or something, but that was categorically untrue. Many of them were annoying brats -- like those kids from earlier. She was about to just go ahead and thank him for writing her a doctor's note or something, and then she paused at his second suggestion. It didn't really make much sense to her, honestly, that he should have to do that, but maybe it was a little impolite nevertheless to ask, "...You get seriously bored here, don't you?" She could honestly think of no other reason for him to want to actually accompany her to class. Would it be rude to flat-out refuse, just say that no, she'd just take the note and she didn't want to spend another few minutes with him? Well... honestly, she guessed that there were worse things that could happen. "Whatever you like -- my class is starting soon though." She got up and picked up her bag with her other arm, slinging it over the one shoulder, looking at him expectantly for the note or... to be escorted, or something. She'd probably prefer the note.

Though Avery was an understanding and tolerant person and spent years maturing himself by not dwelling on the Academy alliances (because he was in a position where that kind of stuff had to be forgotten), he could say with utmost confidence that he still often thought about them. Sure, Avery didn't act on them and didn't let his pride of being a water take over, but it was still a nagging thought in the back of his head. He was bullied in his Academy days, so that trauma never really left him. That's why he was so intimidated by Skye at this moment--she was calm, that was for sure, but she just carried this aura that he felt with most thunder students; the feeling that she'd...no, no, snap was not the word for it...ugh, he really couldn't think straight right now. It'd been a while since someone made Avery flustered. They should get an award or something, because the man could be a real shameless flirt sometimes. "You're right," he said, laughing slightly. "You really do take things seriously, huh?" He cracked her a lopsided grin. He'd originally just made it as a joke, but it was slightly funny to see how Skye just replied to him so seriously--ah, the kids at the Academy were really something.
Avery wasn't sure if he should be scared or relieved that Skye stayed quiet too. This was his thing with quiet people--he didn't know what they were thinking! You see, Avery was a very vocal and cheerful person and he'd voice out any thoughts or just talk nonstop to get some conversation going, so whenever he encountered someone who was the exact opposite of him...well, he got nervous and insecure. Kind of like "what are they thinking?" or "they're killing me slowly and painfully in their mind right about now..." Sigh, he really liked to over-exaggerate things, but his curiosity was burning at the moment. "You're welcome~" he replied. "It's a good thing your wrist wasn't broken. I have a feeling you wouldn't have liked the bulky casts!" Avery exclaimed, his nose scrunching up at the thought of having to wear one for himself. They were huge, troublesome, and uncomfortable. He knew from experience; he almost always had one on during the time he was bullied.
The thing was with Avery, even thought he lost his confidence quick, he was easily able to rebound back--okay, maybe not to his fullest, but at least he wasn't sulking about it. "Mind telling what grade your in?" he asked, his eyes suddenly wide with curiosity/guilt. He usually made a point to get to know all his patients, even if they will only visit him once and he'd never see them again--force of habit, he guessed. Avery just liked people in general, whether or not they liked him back. "Being bored is an understatement~" he sighed, though he grinned. He nodded his head over to his trash can and said, "When I get bored, I make up games to keep myself occupied. Thankfully an angel arrived before me to save me from my boredom!" His voice was over-exaggerating, his arms slightly extended towards Skye as if he was serenading her. But seriously, Avery was about to have a mental breakdown before Skye came along. There were days where it was busy and he'd barely have time to breathe, and there were days where things just moved so agonizingly slow. The latter was what today was like. Ah, the exciting life of a 27 year old school nurse. Avery jumped up from his stool enthusiastically when she mentioned her class was starting soon, and like a gentlemen, extended his hand to help her up. "It'll be my pleasure~" It wasn't everyday where he'd escort a student to there class, but on days like these, yes, he would. Avery just thought of himself as the friendly, neighborhood nurse.
[ugh, omg, sorry this post is so crappy xD;;]

She smiled a little. "I know." Her response earlier had been what was kind of maybe a sad attempt at a joke in return, but there would have probably been nothing to tip him off on that one -- she knew that she was pretty expressionless much of the time. Skye definitely wasn't the type to wear her heart on her sleeve or anything -- not anything even remotely close. It was okay. Skye wasn't going to really let that deter her either, not that there was very much to deter her from. At least she could say that she was always herself or something like that -- keeping things to herself usually did mean that she wasn't so easily influenced by other people and the things they wanted. Most everyone got the same. "Would anyone like a cast?" she asked, frowning in distaste as she glanced down at her arm, now in a sling. This was pretty bad, but she guessed that it wasn't as bad as having it broken. She didn't think that would have been likely anyway, though, considering the fact that she'd just fallen on it weird, but Skye was no doctor. She couldn't diagnose these things or anything. "But no, you're probably right." She didn't like the restriction as it was. A cast would be much, much worse.
The questin was really random and threw her for a loop, but she guessed that it was probably because she'd mentioned her class. Oh, class. It wasn't fun at all, honestly -- it was mostly draining, and if Skye wasn't already in her final year, she'd probably quit at this point, especially now that she had a wrist to fuck things up for her even further. "Oh, uh, I'm in college actually," she answered, then added as clarification, "Fourth year." Then she'd be done for good, and man was that a weird thought. She had been at this school for far too long, longer than she'd ever expected as a ninth grader, not that she'd thought about it a particular amount. "Yeah... Really bored then, I imagine," she said, raising her eyebrows slightly at him, but she was more amused than she was irritated -- except at the whole calling her an angel thing, because that was just too untrue. She didn't say anything, though. She'd just feel like she was beating on him again, even if the doctor seemed like he had confidence in spades to deal with it. It wasn't always easy to tell. "Right. I'm not sure I was much help with that, but okay." She'd just go with it, she decided, walking over to the door, opening it and leaning against it to keep it open. "After you, Doctor." Or, er, maybe she should have called him Avery like he'd asked, but it had slipped her mind.

Was Avery's eyes playing a cruel joke on him or did he really just see Skye smile? Even slightly? Avery blinked for a few seconds, the room quiet for a moment as he barely registered her reply. Ah, the simplest of things made Avery happy--like he made a breakthrough or something. Skye was scary per say, but she was definitely intimidating, so her small smile was like, sunshine breaking through a stormy day. Okay, maybe Avery was being a little dramatic, but can you really blame him? He's made progress! "You smiled," he said, almost flatly. He blinked a few more times before breaking out into his famous cheeky grin, before adding dramatically, "She smiles~!" As if it was the greatest discovery in the world. He really needed to get his priorities straight. "People who want pity," he replied, shrugging. "Yesterday a fire came in with a scratch, demanded a cast, and received all the pity and attention she wanted~" he said wistfully. Avery personally hated being pitied, so he really couldn't comprehend why someone would want to receive it willingly. "And no worries, you'll only have to wear the sling for about two weeks! It'll be gone before you know it~" Avery cringed at himself. Sometimes his own positivity made him want to bang his hand against the wall.
"Ooh, cool!" he exclaimed, his eyes now sparkling in excitement. Avery didn't go to the Academy for college, but meeting people who did was...interesting. Like the fact that they could ninja him and whoop his ass if they wanted to--because Avery really couldn't defend himself. Oh well. "Aaaand, let me guess~ thunder?" He hoped he guessed right. If she was actually an earth or a water, that'd be awkward. "Ugh, don't get me started!" Really, don't get him started. He could go on for days just getting out his frustrations and boredom and how he should just get a Nintendo DS or something to keep him entertained and blah, blah, blah. Ears would be fallen off. "But pretty patients like you make up for that, I guess~" And Avery shrugged, a bright smile on his face. "Your presence alone was enough~" More than enough. When Avery was stuck alone on these kinds of days, he became a little...nutty. Weird in the head. He smiled briefly at that thought and followed Skye along, though he stopped just right in front of the door. Avery scrunched his nose a little as she called him "doctor," but nonetheless, he smiled, one of his hands on the door. "Nope, ladies first."

The comment would have been irritating if it wasn't somehow... gratifying, in a weird sense. His tone was flat at first and then somehow far more enthusiastic, and in a sense it reminded her of a couple of close friends. People were sometimes surprised to discover that Skye was, in fact, not as emotionless and cold as she appeared to... er, almost everyone, at first. "Yes," she agreed, and her lips tugged themselves into another tiny smile of sorts, but at least her eyes looked amused, if Avery was the type to pick up on that kind of thing. He might not be. "I do that sometimes." It was said in an only mildly sarcastic tone, but hey, everyone smiled -- she just... didn't smile at everyone and everything she saw. Skye wasn't full of enough... enthusiasm, maybe, for that kind of deal. "Oh," she said, her voice flat this time, but not because she was annoyed with him or anything. "I guess if she needs attention that badly then that's nice for her." Skye would have shrugged but didn't. "Do you often deal with people like that?" she asked, genuine curiosity getting the better of her. She wasn't too sure she liked Avery much, still, but Skye had gotten very good at keeping civil, even nice, around people. "People who are just looking for attention because they apparently got hurt, I mean." Skye was hurt, and she didn't really want to be there. She didn't want this sling, either -- it practically made her some kind of open target -- but she did nod when he said that she'd only need it for two weeks. "Thanks." That was semi-reassuring news, at least.
She didn't know why he was so excited at the idea that she was in college, but thinking it over, she decided that this probably meant that he hadn't. Most people actually didn't, after all, so it did make sense. Most of her friends at the Academy these days were, of course, in college. She felt too old for some of these oldest high school kids sometimes, even, but maybe that was because Skye was just very, very over high school and its drama. She needed to be out of this place as quickly as possible. In this sense, she kind of envied Avery for (presumably) not having attended college here, not that she was going to ask to make sure. "What? No," she said, putting on a face of false confusion. Skye was actually a pretty good actress (or liar) when she wanted to be. "Earth," she said, giving him a look as if he had deeply offended her. It was a joke, though. She felt like she was mood swinging hardcore here or something, but it was possible that the joke was made to try to diffuse the situation that she may have made more tense than necessary. Then she dropped the act. "Yeah, Thunder," she said with a nod, not bothering to ask how he'd known that so easily. Personalities dictated elements, or perhaps it was the other way around, but either way that was how it worked out. "Water?" she asked in return. In a way, he reminded her of Teddy... and also a little bit, vaguely, of her own mother, except for the whole motherliness thing. That was a Water personality if she'd ever seen one, though.
"I won't," she promised, shaking her head as if to say, Seriously, please don't get started. She didn't need to hear anyone's stories of how they passed the time in a quiet, lonely medical wing, really she didn't at all. There was a momentary pause for a second after his words, while Skye debated whether or not she should actually ask the question on her mind. In the end she decided that it could do no real harm. "Are you like this with every patient who comes through here?" She kind of hoped so. Ego boosts and all that aside, it would be a lot more okay in her mind somehow if this was just the usual for Avery. "Thank you." She headed through the door without further comment -- equal opportunism and feminism were great, but she wasn't going to turn down any kind of behaviour anyone else thought was gentlemanly. "And thank you for coming with me to class, too," she said after a moment, holding off on adding an "I guess" to the end of the sentence. No need to intimidate or annoy him further.

Avery felt like his heart was shot with an arrow or something when she smiled again, though it was just as small as the first, it was still a smile! "Well, you should do it more often!" he said, not meaning it in a rude way. "It keeps off the wrinkles for a little while longer!" Though, there were smile lines, but it was better than worry lines! Besides, Skye had such a pretty smile. It was a shame she held in it. "Teenagers," he said, shrugging as if it was normal thing he dealt with. And it was--ugh, Avery really couldn't stand it sometimes, but it wasn't like he could do anything about it. Especially when he was sort of terrified of fires. Considering Avery's knack of saying things without thinking, it was disastrous. He had to be extra mindful around fires so he wouldn't set off any tempers. "Unfortunately, yes~ but what can you do?" In simple words Avery was a passive-aggressive. He didn't want to start things that would ultimately make him treat his own wounds, but he could only handle so much before he got irritated. Which was a great feat to achieve, because the nurse had the patience of a saint. "Besides, I get patients like you and I feel all better~" he tacked on. Even though it was kind of frightening for the first few minutes.
"Wh-what?" Avery was hardly ever wrong when he guessed the elements of his patients. He suddenly felt his warmth rushing up to his cheeks, not just feeling flustered. Flabbergasted! Earth? No way in hell. Oh God, this is embarrassing...so-- "A joke." He blinked blankly at her when she admitted she was a thunder. Avery let out a sigh of relief, his smile spreading across his face just as fast as the blood in his cheeks did moments ago. "You scared me for a second," he admitted sheepishly, on the verge of laughing hysterically. Avery wasn't sure it was a bad thing to not believe her when she said she was an earth--seeing she was on the opposite alliance, Avery would say so. But earths had good traits too--not saying that thunders didn't, he just thought...okay. He'll stop rambling to prevent brain damage. "No." Avery's tone was flat and his expression quickly matched with its seriousness. "Fire." He faintly wondered if Skye would even fall for it as she just played the same joked on him a few moments ago. But hey, it was worth a shot, though it was nearly impossible for Avery to stay serious without a valid reason. And so he broke out into a grin, his head tilting to the side. "Correct~!"
Sometimes Avery forgot the extent of his ranting ways. He'd go on and on, even when he swore he wouldn't, but it just flowed out like word vomit. It was unstoppable, but the sake of saving Skye's ears from falling off, he forced his lips shut by pinching them. "Mmm, only to select patients," he said after a thought, but that really wasn't true. After another moment, he ducked his head, sheepishly admitting, "Okay, yes." Avery was a shameless person. That was the only she really needed to know about him. "No problem~! I haven't gone to an elemental class, in well..." Avery counted the years in his head and he scrunched his nose in distaste. In over a decade. But that made him sound old, so he didn't finish his sentence.

None of this was anything Skye had never heard before, definitely not, and so she just took it in her stride, mostly -- all the being told that she should really smile, that she looked too serious. It did get annoying, was definitely a little grating when it wasn't like half these people knew her anyway. It wasn't like she was just... some kind of perpetually expressionless statue or something. "Well. I figure, since I wouldn't want to look too old," she said with the smallest hint of amusement. She could play along. Really, though... it was weird to think how old she actually was, so much older than most everyone else around here. "Teenagers indeed." She couldn't say that she was a huge fan. Her teenage years had been okay, at least -- but Skye had changed considerably since then, though hopefully she hadn't been anything like this one attention-seeking girl. Skye was pretty sure she hadn't, but then again... fuck, that had been a few years ago. Still, she probably couldn't have made such a one eighty from that. "I don't know. Tell them to knock it off, I guess." There probably wasn't much else he could do as a doctor, though. "But thank you." She paused to consider her words before adding, "You were... helpful. Thanks." Skye really didn't like this whole sentiment thing, though this wasn't to say that she was incapable of it -- just found it unnecessary, maybe.
She couldn't deny that his reaction was kind of priceless, and she almost laughed, just almost. Okay... It was a little bit fun to mess with people's minds, just very briefly. Skye didn't think she was cruel enough to drag it out, though -- he looked kind of shocked and horrified that he had gotten that wrong. "Yeah," she confirmed with a nod. "A joke." She was very much a Thunder. Skye didn't really... know if that was necessarily a good thing or not, but she was pretty well aware that it was where she belonged, at least in the sense that she really did have way too much in common with her fellow Thunders. Alright. It probably wasn't a good thing all the time. "Sorry," she apologized, feeling sort of bad... but not that bad, and she didn't go any further than this. Wordiness was not necessary on any level for this. "Fire, huh? Liar," she said, pretty unafraid to call him out on it, though she'd feel pretty ridiculous if it turned out that he was telling the truth. It turned out she was right though, and his grin was so huge and goofy that she couldn't help but actually smile -- not even a tiny one. Fuck. He should really feel special or something. She wasn't easy to win over in any way. "You really are a Water." There was that friendliness, that happiness. Admittedly many Waters were really fucking irritating, but it was nothing she hadn't put up with before, she guessed.
It did at least reassure her somehow when he said that he was always like this. It would be weird otherwise actually -- like the flirting was done with real intent, or this guy made a habit of actually legitimately trying to hit on students who came in hurt or something. This kind of thing didn't even usually bother Skye either (not that it happened that often or anything, all things considered) but it was... different like this. He was supposed to be held to some kind of standard here, being part of the school's faculty -- but if it was his personality, maybe it really was just engrained in him. Still, maybe he could stand to be a little more professional. "Are most of them okay with it?" she asked, again out of curiosity. She didn't really know how the "average student" or anything of the sort would respond to Avery. Most of them were high schoolers, though. "In... a while," she suggested as an ending to his sentence. He looked incredibly young, but she didn't need or want to go around offending anyone or anything like that. "It'll be like an adventure for you then." Elemental classes were definitely very different in college, especially at the Senior level.
