Nell should stop seeing her father so early in the morning. She sat up on his kitchen counter looking through the real estate section of the paper and the man just kept asking questions. ”How was your morning?" he said. That was met with the usual ‘fine’. ”And how’s school?” That one was met with a dry, ”Very school-like, methinks.” The man sighed, reading his own section of the paper. But she knew he wasn’t finished. ”Are you looking for a new apartment?” She picked up the coffee cup next to her and took a big gulp. ”I’m looking for a place to operate my drug ring from. How does this sound? Two bedrooms, one bath, minor water damage to the basement. Think the fuzz would look there?” Apparently that was enough to deter him from any more questions and they sat in their usual uncomfortable silence. She didn’t know why she even did this. Actually, she did, she just didn’t want to admit it. She wasn’t so horrible as to completely ignore her father, just because that was the kind of person she was. It shouldn’t have been that way with him, but she still felt like she should at least talk to him sometimes. Still, it never crossed her mind that she was a nice person. Nell just thought she was an idiot.
Minutes later, after circling a few possible apartments, Nell left and told him she’d be at the mall when he asked. Again, she wasn’t enough of a jerk to say ‘nowhere’ and he’d managed not to piss her off too bad that morning. Was it too early for his usual snark? Or maybe he just decided to lay off for a bit. Nell didn’t know and didn’t care. Even though she wished she knew more about the man, like if he realized where his money was going and if he understood exactly what she was doing to him. But these thoughts fled her mind as Nell walked through the mall with bags swinging from her arms and a soft pretzel in her mouth. It was always a good day when she could blow off some steam by spending her father’s money. She’d hit all the stores she wouldn’t have been able to afford months ago, and even though a lot of them weren’t her ‘style’, she still bought as much as she could. And she wasn’t going to admit just how bitter she was being, no way, no how. Her father was a dick, and he’d given her a credit card—he should have predicted what would happen.
She was about to walk past the pet store when she backtracked and looked inside with a wide grin. There were so many cute little animals! It was an odd feeling these pet stores gave her. While she was absorbed by the animals, it also made her sad to see them locked up in cages. She almost wanted to release them all. She did want to release them all. But as she was about to leave to save herself from anymore bad feelings, a tank caught her eye. She was just being drawn in by too many things that day, but she couldn’t help but approached the tank on the wall, looking in on their tiny little world while imitating the faces they made. She asked one of the sale associates to take out a couple and paid for the little guppies. Now as she walked through the mall, she held up the clear bag full of water and fish, making little cooing noises like they were Pablo. The guppies just moved their fishy mouths around and stared at her with wide eyes that she believed to be adorable.
And the next thing to distract her was a fountain, one that people through their spare change into whether they were supposed to or not. She always thought it was interesting to look into the water and see what people had thrown in their—sometimes she saw bills folded on the bottom—but there was something else that would be quite an interesting sight. There weren’t too many people around and luckily she was smart enough to check for a mall cop before dropping the rest of her bags and squatting on the fountain. Untying the bag, she held it underwater and watched the guppies swim on out. It didn’t cross her mind that the fish may not have been able to survive in the fountain. To her, water was water was water, and she didn’t know any better. So as she watched them go on their merry way, she leaned a little too far and was only able to catch herself in time to shift her body so that she landed on her butt.
Instead of crying or flushing from embarrassment, she cracked up. People looked on as she picked herself up, and standing in the fountain, she wrung out her t-shirt.

"Alright...Okay I will. Yes...No, I'll get one myself. Yes, I have enough money. Okay...I love you too. Bye!" Shutting her phone, she threw the device on the bed next to her broken camera. She was on the phone with her mother, debating on who should buy her a new camera. After a lot of debating and reassurance, her mother finally let her buy it this time. Some might look at her as weird for wanting to buy her own things, but the girl feels guilty when someone buys her something when she could do it herself. She thinks of herself as greedy by doing that, so she doesn't.
But, she could always get it repaired. That would be cheaper. But the camera's getting old, and she wanted to update anyway, so why not kill two birds with one stone?
Ari grabs her shoes, purse, and phone and heads out of her dorm. She waves at some friends and acquaintances and headed out of the cellar door. She decided to take an alternate route since she's in such a positive mood.
Her 'positive days', she likes to call them, don't come as often as she wishes. They came maybe once a week...around Sunday. She doesn't know why Sunday is the day she's in a great mood. She believes, though, that the 'Sun' in Sunday might be the reason. Anything that has to do with suns makes her happy. That's her little theory, and she plans to stick with it until someone tells her otherwise.
Finally getting out of the dorm, she took a long walk towards the parking lot to reach her car. Turning on the ignition, she slowly pulled out of the lot and onto the street leading to the mall.
Sure, she could go to a RadioShack or some store that specializes in electronics, but she wanted to look around at other things too. She might 'need' something so to speak, and she might see someone she knows.
One would think that on a Sunday people would be at church or something, but no. There were a lot of people here, according to the amount of cars here. She spent at least 5 minutes looking for an available parking spot, and found one far away from the mall. Figures. Slamming her car door shut, she walked into the store while shielding her eyes from the blinding sun.
Upon entering, she heard a loud burst of laughter. Looking in the direction, she happened to see a girl wringing out her t-shirt in the fountain, a girl that she happened to recognize as one of her best friends. Ari walked up casually to her and said, "You're having a pool party and didn't invite me?!" She put on a pout face and crossed her arms.
<This is a really slack post. Sorry for that.>

Glad that she wasn’t attracting too much attention, Nell continued to wring out her shirt until she heard a familiar voice. She looked over to see Ari, putting on a childish show of indignation. ”I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, Ari!” With a grin, Nell started to tug on her hand as if to pull her into the fountain until she looked over her shoulder and saw a mall cop trailblazing over to them. Giggling, she half-stepped, half-tumbled out of the fountain, still tugging on her friend’s hand. In a quick movement, she bent over to pick up her bags and then sped off toward the bathrooms. Running from the law felt just like déjà vu. She was still giggling as she opened the door, and explained to Ari what she was doing in the fountain in the first place. ”I was putting some fish in there and like the klutz I am, fell in.” It was a good thing she could laugh at herself, otherwise she’d totally embarrassed about the whole thing. Because honestly, who did that? Nell really didn’t understand the meaning of normal, but it didn’t matter much to her.
Placing her bags under the row of sinks, she brought one in to the stall with her. As she changed, she asked Ari through the door, ”What brings you to the mall alone today?” Usually people brought their friends to come shopping, so it was kind of odd to see the fellow Earth girl without companionship. Realizing that she had also been alone, Nell said, ”I just got off work and I thought I’d go on a shopping spree.” She was lying and hated that she had to do that, but she’d rather not talk about her father. She trusted something very personal with Arielle because she thought of her as being close as a sister, but there was things she needed to sort out in her present personal life before she started telling others about it. Plus, mention of her father would just send her into a Spanish tangent, most likely, as she had unfortunately done to Josh in Timmies.
Throwing her wet clothes in the bag, she adjusted the new outfit she just bought. Even with her father’s money, she still liked to stick to her typical style. Just a band tee with shorts and sneakers. But she did try to shop in stores like Hollister and found stuff she liked, she still felt at home in thrift stores. Walking out of the stall, she asked Ari, ”Any stores you were thinking of hitting? I have a lot of money to spend, so I’m not quite finished yet.” Even though she had three or four bags already, there was still much damage to be done to the mall. She was determined to hit possibly ever store there, and it would be nice to have Ari as company. Especially since she could buy the girl anything she wanted. The power of money was pretty intoxicating, but she wouldn’t allow it to get to her head. No need to become like the spoiled rich bitch she felt like she already was. Nell just wanted to keep all this spending friviolous, but still mainly on things like clothes and food, so she could still be the independent girl she had become when she left America.
[NUUU, IT WAS GREAT!!! ><]

"Whoa, hey. I know you're not about to-" It seemed like Nell was going to pull her in the fountain with her, but she stopped as her gaze shifted towards something else. It ended being someone; a very important someone at that. The mall cop was heading towards them, and looked aggravated too. Ari didn't have enough time to react because she was pulled by her friend, running towards the ladies room. Ari smiled and leaned against the tile wall of the restroom and shook her head. "Nelly Nell-Nell. How many times do I have to tell you? You're not a Water student sweetie." She added a little laugh with her sly remark. "But to be honest, that's something I would do too. You remember the time I told you I freed the lobster at the grocery store right?" That was a great time. She was 11 and she saw those cute little crustaceans swimming around with their claws tied in multi-colored rubber bands. She felt bad for them, so when no one was looking, she freed them...and her mother got in a lot of trouble for it.
Wow, she sort of forgot that she came alone. She knew she didn't have anyone with her, but it didn't really register until Nell voiced it out. She shrugged simply and answered, "I dunno. I just felt like coming alone. I'm enjoying the little freedom that I can without Anthony breathing down my neck." She loved her oldest brother to death, but if he continues being the overly protective brother that he is, she go even more insane than her current state now. "And I'm here to buy a new camera. I sorta, umm, dropped it in the toilet." Thank God this time it was post-flush.
She wondered what Nell was doing here all her lonesome as well when her question was answered right after she thought it. "Ahh, okay. How was work by the way?" Ari needed to find a job soon. She couldn't depend on her mother paying the college tuition bills and paying off loans all of the time. Maybe Nell can help her out by helping her get some work at her job.
"Oooo. Cuteness." Ari complimented the new outfit Nell wore to replace the now soaking wet one. Then Nell said the words that Ari didn't need to hear. " I don't think you should have said that...you know I go crazy with shopping. But if you insist..." She was just like her mother. Her mother would go in the grocery store stating that she needed maybe 4 or 5 things. Next thing you know, she comes out with a carriage filled with foods and toiletries. Unfortunately for this Earth grad, the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

In the stall, Nell couldn’t give her usual expression of mischeviousness, so she told Ari, ”But Ari baby, I want to be a fish so much,” she said in a mock whine. Nell laughed remembering the story that her friend had told her. ”And you accuse me of thinking I’m a Water student,” she mocked playfully. She wished sometimes that she could have childhood memories like those, but then she reminded herself that it was never good to dwell on ‘what ifs’ and things that did or didn’t happen in the past. She’d just have to make due with the stories that Ari told her.
Nell chuckled at Ari’s reasons for coming along. ”I hear ya,” she said, even though she didn’t have an over-protective brother hovering around her. But independence was big with her, so she could understand the feeling. Especially since she had a paranoid mother who thought she was being protective in her own disturbed way. ”Ari, you know better than to take pictures of the plumbing,” she scolded. Nell could understand how it happened, however—not like she didn’t ever almost drop her cellphone in the toilet. On a few occasions when her father called, she would have very much liked to. But she had Josh for that in any case.
God, why do I have to lie to you, Ari? She really hated it, but she didn’t like to talk about her personal life. Even though she could have just said that she was with her father, she really didn’t like to bring hi up in conversation as nice as this. He had the ability to ruin everything even when his presence was not involved. ”Same old grind, yanno?” Nell said with a smile. That would be honest, since nothing really changed from day to day. She would never complain about her job, because hey, it paid the bills and she never liked to complain about anything. She was lucky to have a job, anyway, especially one that was illegal for her to have. ”You looking for any jobs?” Nell asked her curiosly, wondering if Ari even wanted one.
Giving a mock curtsey, Nell said, ”Why thank you, darling.” It was always nice getting compliments from her friend, even when it wasn’t an extravagent outfit. Not like she dressed fancy at all, and she wasn’t really going to start even when she had her father’s money to spend. With a sly twinkle in her eye, Nell said, ”I said the magic words, huh.” Taking her friend by the arm and guiding her out of the bathrroms, Nell said, ”Now, first I guess we need to get you a new camera. Which I am more than willing to pay for myself.” And she was completely serious about this. It was even better when she could spend her father’s money on her friends, because then she knew it wouldn’t be going to waste and then she’d have the happiness of providing for someone she cared about. It was a win-win. ”What do you say to that?”

She laughed at her friend's reply, and came up with her own. "Well my dear, if anyone has to be a fish, it best be me. You know, with my name and all." She gave a bored expression afterwards. She told her how she received her name. Her mother named her after that Disney movie The Little Mermaid. She thought the name was pretty, so with a little spicing up with the spelling, that's how she got her name.
She shrugged with a smile at her next statement. "The only thing I regret is that I had one chance to free those poor little cute crustaceans." ...and the fact that she received a rather bad scolding from her mother once they got in the car afterwards.
She nodded as her friend understood her need to be free. The song "Part of Your World" came into her head and she mentally scolded herself. Now it'll be in my head for the entire day...thanks mom.
Ari laughed at her friends comment. "Actually, I was trying to take cute pictures of myself in the mirror. I placed the camera on the sink, and it slipped and fell into the toilet. And here I am." She added a fake smile to finish her explanation.
Almost immediately asking the question, she almost regretted it. She knew that Nell didn't like talking about personal life like that, and sometimes it slips Ari's mind. She nodded, not trusting herself to ask the usual question related to conversations like this: 'What are the juicy details?' She knew she'd probably evade the answer, so she just didn't say anything. Ari wasn't mad at this at all. There are some things that she herself didn't want to talk about, especially with her past. She just about told Nell all the bad that has happened, but she didn't want to bring it up anyway.
"Yeah I was thinking about looking for a job. Maybe working in a department store here or something like that. Do you know who's hiring?" Hopefully it was something along the lines she mentioned. She couldn't do fast food joints. Not like she was too good for that scene, oh no. She didn't think she had the patience to deal with aggravated and in-a-hurry customers. She can vaguely see herself snapping and telling them off, which wasn't a good thing for her.
"You're very welcome my dear." She did indeed look cute. She wouldn't have told her anything if she hadn't. She let Nell take her arm and walked out together and into the mall. Ari shook her head at the suggestion. "Oh no, no thanks. I can take care of the camera. I'll feel bad afterwards spending your money, you know me." She feels like she'll be taking advantage of her friend, which was ridiculous because she's never done that before. She just didn't like taking anyone's money.

Nell tried her best Jamaican accent as she teased Ari with Under the Sea. ”Then I’ll be the Sebastian to your Ariel,” she told her friend, tapping her fingers against her thumbs to imitate claws. Nell actually quite liked the ocean, how much water there was and the expanse. But she definitely preferred her element of earth and grass. ”You better not let me be caught and taken to a seafood restaurant.”
Her voice chimed in laughter when Ari explained what really happened, and Nell could have guessed as much. ”Water damage always sucks.” She remembered throwing her phone into the lake once due to anger at her father, but luckily a Water student had been there to help out. Still, the same phone was later tossed into the lake again, this time without repair. That was when Josh had inadvertendly learned about her mother—something Ari didn’t know about. Yeah, she knew about the abuse but that was it and that was more than Nell let most people in. She was a private person, but she didn’t want people to feel like they couldn’t have conversation with her. No, she wanted people to talk to her, she loved people. It was just a lot of things were off-limits when it came to her.
Which is why she liked the conversation moving to Ari. She certainly liked talking about others more than herself. ”I know they’re probably hiring around here,” she said, remembering her friends talking about getting jobs. The mall was a good place for teenagers to look for job. ”Uh…Tilly’s I think.” She had been actually looking for jobs, and was deciding to settle on Blackjack. She remembered Ashton talking about it, and since she had experience and skills in bartending, it was probably her best bet. Still illegal. Well, everything she did was technically illegal, so she couldn’t be too concerned here. ”I know you’re be a shoe-in for any job,” Nell continued airily. ”Customer service skills and all. Well…except when you get pissed.” She giggled, imagining Ari sassing an annoying customer.
Nell rolled her eyes. ”And you know me, I like spending my money on people and cameras.” Besides, it would be her father’s money, but Ari didn’t know that. The secrets made her gut twist, and it was a similar feeling when she told Josh what had happened after he incinerated her phone. They came upon the electronics storm and Nell skipped on in, ready to play with the merchandise as Ari went about getting her camera. She busied herself with a video camera, filming customers and to perform random acts for her amusement. Turning the camera on her friend, she told the girl, ”Do the catwalk, baby! Work your new camera!”

Arielle laughed again at her friend's statement. "That's fine with me my little crustacean friend!" She gave her arm a slight squeeze to let her know she was playing along as well. She then gave a dramatic gasp. "I would never let anything like that happen to you. I'd give up my own voice so that wouldn't happen." She ended that with another heartfelt laugh.
"Yeah, it does. But I'm glad this time the toilet was clean. One time I dropped my mom's phone in the toilet, and...well, yeah." She didn't feel the need to continue on. She figured Nell would pick up on what she was hinting at.
She thought about the place that was hiring for a moment. "Tilly's...that doesn't ring any bells. I don't think I've been there. We need to go by and check it out." She hoped it wasn't some fast food restaurant. She'd lose it if it were. Being without money sounded like a better option than that. Ari nodded her head in agreement with her friend. "Yeah, that sounds like me alright."
Once they walked in, she started to go towards the camera section. She shook her head, in reply to Nell. But then she turned toward her and saw that she was dead serious about this. She thought on it for a moment, then smiled. "Okay, you can pay for my camera only if you let me buy you lunch for a week. I'd feel a lot better knowing that I'm giving you something back." Ari hoped she'd agree. Otherwise she'd feel really guilty taking Nell's money.
She skimmed through some name brands that were familiar. "Nikon...Sanyo..." She turned towards her friend when she spoke to her. She looked into the camera and smiled. She walked a little further away from her, then dramatically started the catwalk in front of everyone. Some customers were eyeing her like she was insane, but Ari didn't mind. She had a serious pout face on her, and stopped right in front of the camera and laughed. "Oh, if only we could keep that clip."

”But then you may find a handsome prince!” she lamented through barely veiled giggles. She wasn’t the best at control when she was like this, joking around with Ari. When the older girl went on to elaborate, she absolutely did not need to go into detail. Nell grimaced, and said, ”Oh, that’s nasty.” She shivered a bit, hoping Ari didn’t try to…fish it out or anything. No, just no.
Mocking faint, Nell said, ”Never heard of Tilly’s?” She always found it odd saying the store name, since it was also her sister’s name, but it was only a minor feeling that she could shrug off. ”They have some cute stuff, you’d like it, methinks.”
Nell hadn’t shopped in places like that before since it was pretty expensive, but she indulged, sometimes. But still, she’d gotten used to the ‘style’ she had—which wasn’t a style, really, it was what she dug out from one of the boxes. Sometimes it was like a treasure hunt, rooting through them and digging up something she forgot she bought. ”Anywho,” Nell sing-songed. ”A job would be good for ya. There’s nothing bad about getting paper.”At first, when Ari agreed, Nell pumped her fist into the air, and then she brought up food. You know the way to my heart, woman. Which created a conflict inside her, but she already knew what her answer would be for her. Nell tried not to smile as she said, ”Ari, with how much I eat, I could never let anyone buy me dinner.” Okay, Josh did have to remind her that he had the money so it didn’t bother him, but with others she was much less lax. Nell didn’t usually have expensive tastes, but she could rack up the bill. ”But, since I know we’re going to have a huge argument—“ Nell held up her hands and rolled her eyes. ”Deal.” She knew that she wouldn’t be getting as much for lunch next week. A compromise, of sorts. Again, Nell had to resist bursting into giggles. ”Ya, work ze catwalk, you are Ari fierce.” She snapped her mouth at her friend as she filmed. ”Ze others, zey are jealous.” She was unable to resist anymore as she laughed when Ari stopped. ”At least we have out memory,” Nell said wistfully. She placed the camera back down. Nell and her friends had been kicked out of stores before—she knew a lot of teenagers had been forced out for messing with the mannequins and other shennanigans. ”Now vámonos, go get yourself a waterproof camera.” She grinned when she said this. She sighed and said "If only that were true. I haven't met anyone in, like, forever." Before she would blame this on her two over-protective brothers, and they had a reason two. They didn't want anyone using her like her father did. But what's her excuse now? Was she even interested? She didn't know. She just sees couples nowadays and wonders why she doesn't have anyone to hold hands with. She doesn't know if she wanted a boyfriend or not. The whole matter confused the poor girl.
Speaking of "Princes", there was something bothering her that she wanted to ask Nell personally. Rumors were, well, rumors. 20% of them were actually true, but she needed to verify it with the main person.
"Hey, now that we're on the topic of princes, what is this I hear of you and Mr. Dale?" She raised an eyebrow at her, trying her best not to look as aggravated as she felt. If it were true, then she'd be hurt. Hurt by the fact that random people on campus new about her own best friend's personal life, and she didn't.
"Oh, really? Then we really need to check it out!" She loved cute things, and Nell knew that, which is why she even mentioned it. She loved her friend for reasons like that. She shook her head at Nell's next comment. "Nope. Nothing wrong with that."
She raised both her eyebrows at Nell's words, about to argue with her, when Nell finished her sentence. With a satisfied smirk, Ari gave her friend a pat on the head. "Good girl. I've trained you well young."
She almost kept her serious until Nell switched into a foreign model photograph. She busted into laughter and had to lean against a counter to hold herself upright. "Oh Nell," she said through breaths. "I love you dear." Nodding at her command, she walked of towards the cameras, keeping her model walk as she went.

Nell’s face split into a mischevious smile at Ari’s words. ”Oh, well I am matchmaker extrordinairre. At your service.” She gave a wink after that. In all honesty, she was naïve in everything to do with relationships, even with the help of research. And now that she was with Josh who was…not so naïve, well, she became much more aware of the things she didn’t know. However, that didn’t mean she didn’t like to pair her friends together if she thought they looked cute. She had great fun with that. Because she knew that having someone in your life like she had Josh made people happy, and that’s what she wanted most in the world—everyone to be happy. Yes, she was very naïve. ”Unfortunately, I don’t really know any Earth graduates,” she commented a bit of a frown tugging on her lips. Then was the mischevious grin again. ”Ah well, guess you’ll be a cougar. You know Ashton? He’s in eleventh grade, but you’re not too far apart. Two years, right?” There was a two year age difference between her and Josh, one she was not bothered by. So she supposed that Ari might be the same.
Then Ari brought up her boyfriend. So Josh was a prince now? It took her a moment to understand what the older girl asking her about him meant. Nell realized that she hadn’t told her best goddamn friend about her going out with Josh. Well crap. ”Uh yeah, I’m dating Josh,” she said, a bit awkward. She felt terrible about not telling Ari this, but Nell…wasn’t really used to telling people things about her personal life. ”I’m sorry I didn’t tell you,” she told her friend in a pleading tone. ”But I promise, we can go to the food court or something and I’ll tell you all about it.” She usually wasn’t so willing to reveal anything about herself, but this was Ari. And it wasn’t like Nell’s relationship with Josh was some big secret—people knew they were going out, and so she regretted that her best friend had to learn that from word of mouth. Especially since the rumors with Josh were…less than kind.
”We’ll check it out after we get you that camera.” Ari seemed please by the girl’s resignation, which actually made her happy—she really had no pride. Nell fixed a proud smile to her face and said, ”I am glad I can please you.” She understood how her stubborness on the subject of money and food was something that could annoy people, so she had to sacrifice something so that she didn’t aggravate people all the time. When Ari cracked up, Nell snorted with rather unattractive laughter before gathering herself enough to state, ”Oh, I love you too. Let’s elope and fly to Paris so you can be a model.” She actually believed that Ari could do it. The girl was very pretty, and Nell could think those things without being jealous. Even though when she did turn her thoughts over to herself and thought about how attractive she was, well, she didn’t think much of it. Nell was not a pretty girl.
She took the camera from her friend and paid for it, always getting the feeling of satisfaction in handing over the credit card her father gave her. With anyone else, she hated spending their money—this was different. This was revenge. Handing Ari the bag, she said, ”We can hit Tilly’s next and then go to the food court so you can buy me lunch. Sound good?”

Aril laughed at her friend's comment. She didn't think of Nell of much of a matchmaker, but she trusted her friend. She waited patiently for her friend's response as she skimmed through a few phones and televisions. She nodded sadly at Nell's response. "I do. But they're either taken, or gay. Both don't work for me." Ashton...Ashton. The name sounded familiar. Oh yeah, the Earth student. "He's pretty cute, but I'd feel really old compared to him, even though we're only two years apart. Sorry hun." The truth was, she'd feel like she's baby-sitting or something along those lines. She wanted a man she could look up to, not down, age-wise that is.
"Uh huh..." was Ari's only reply to her comment. So it is true then? She couldn't help but feel a little upset. It wasn't because of her dating Josh: on the contrary, she was okay with it. He's seem like the over-protective type, and he'll definitely take care of her. No. It was the fact that she didn't tell her, Ari, her best friend, her BFFL, didn't know about it. She felt betrayed...
...But Ari couldn't feel that way for long. She loved her buddy, and couldn't stay mad at her for long. She nodded at her apology and gave her a small smile. "It's okay. You have other things on your mind." She gave her the benefit of the doubt, like she did with other things. "All right, that sounds good to me."
"Good." The smile was placed back on Ari's face as she confirmed that she wanted to go to Tilly's. She laughed out loud again. "Oh you're so cute. How could you not please anyone?" It was a rhetorical question, but a true question. She loved her little Nelly Nell Nell, and could overlook her stubbornness on food and stuff like that. Nodding, the girl stated in a French accent "Yes my love, and let's adopt many many children. All from from different parts of the world. Oui Oui?"
Ari watched as Nell naturally paid for something that wasn't hers, while she herself was freaking out on the inside. She guess it could more like, 'freaking in'. She didn't like it when people paid for things when she sure as heck could have. Maybe she didn't like the fact that she owed people, or she didn't like the feeling of being dependent. She figured it was both as she smiled and looped an arm through Nell's. "Yes, let's go to the uberly-cute store." Pointing her arm outward, she exclaimed, "And we are off!"

Nell’s lips twitched up into a smile. ”Or taken and gay…sorry, I shouldn’t be poking fun at your misfortune.”
She dipped her head in an attempt to hide her amused expression, the twinkling of her brown eyes. It was easy to joke about it because she knew the Earth graduate would find a man, so why not poke fun in the meantime? Ari was destined for a handsome suitor with poems and flowers—okay, maybe not flowers, since she could have all the flowers she wanted just by growing them. But a similar ideal. Nell was sure there were guys out there who were just too shy to approach Ari, and that’s what kept them away. ”The Earth leader, yanno.” She wasn’t sure how her friend would like her setting him up on a blind date or anything. But now that Asha was gone, he must have felt lonely, right? ”Oh well, you could’ve been cute together.” Even though she was smiles on the outside, what Ari had said about feeling old because of the two year age difference made her wonder. Did Josh feel that way? He was a graduate, after all, and she hasn’t even turned eighteen yet. Especially when her naïvete came into play… There was always so much self-doubt, always the feeling that she wasn’t good enough. If he didn’t think you were good enough, he wouldn’t have stayed with you. Nell was snapped from her self-consciousness, only to land into a pit of guilt. ”I’m sorry,” she repeated pathetically. But she was glad that Ari didn’t seem to be entirely upset with her, and the smile flickered back onto her face like a light snapping on. ”Good,” she said in a soft sigh when Ari confirmed it was all right. Nell still felt like a terrible friend. You should be used to this by now, she scolded herself. It had been over half a year since she’d stepped into society. But her relationship was very much new waters, even though she and Josh had been going out for months. Ari’s cooing praise did make her feel better, even brought a blush to her cheeks. Something else she hadn’t really grown used to was compliments. And so there was the feeling that she didn’t deserve them. Sometimes, they even made her feel uncomfortable, which she knew wasn’t normal. Luckily, Ari was just teasing and Nell stuck her tongue out and blew a raspberry. ”Like ze movie stars, ya?” she agreed with her friend, liking how ridiculous she felt. Nell could sympathize with the feeling Ari got when having her camera paid for her, but she wished the other girl could understand that Nell would rather go broke than have Ari go without something she wanted. Guiding them to Tilly’s since Ari didn’t even know about the store, she browsed around a little, picking up about anything she could find. Unfortunately, she couldn’t get bathing suits here—they were all bikinis and she didn’t want to go around with her mid-driff showing. Nell ended up with a pile of clothes in her arms, sneakers on top of the pile, and a silly grin on her face. ”Shop till I quite literally drop is my motto,” she said, shaking the bags already on her arms a bit. Arielle snorted at Nell's comment. "Or that," she added as an afterthought. She didn't mind. This was Nell. She loved making jokes, and she also enjoyed to herself. She watched as her friend turned away to hide her expression. "No need to hide it. I know it's there," she said with a happy note. "Oh well I guess." It's a very silly thing to say no to. He might be a very nice guy, but she can't get over the fact that she's older than him. She liked guys who are older than her, not the other way around. Who knows, she might just be missing out.
"Tis okay, Nell dear." Ari hoped she didn't make her friend feel too bad. Then she'd feel bad for making her feel that way. Ari is a confusing person. "You probably had a lot on your mind, don't sweat it. In fact, this is the end of it." With a determined face, the Earth girl kept walking beside her bestie as if nothing happened.
Look at that blush, so cute! Ari wouldn't dare say that out, for fear that she'd never see that face again. It really did make her happy to see Nell smile. It was a rare facial expression that the younger girl wore, so Ari took advantage of the moment as best as she could. Even though she wanted to voice this aloud, she bit her tongue and just smiled.
"Ya," replied Ari to Nell's comment. "It would be very lovely to visit Paris...when I do go, I'm going to take you with me. We could live our dream...sort of." She's always wanted to go to that beautiful city. The art, fashion, and of course, the man. French men...oh yes. From what she heard, they were absolutely gorgeous. Who knows, maybe she'll meet her soul mate there.
The store "Tilly's" was before her, and she watched as Nell entered there and pick out some things. Ari followed suit and found some cute tennis shoes, some t-shirts, and jeans. She was glad she didn't have a specific 'look' that she went by. The girl just chose whatever she found cute and stuck with it. She knew some friends that wouldn't be caught dead in this store, but oh well for them. They're missing out. Before Nell could stop her, Ari hurriedly paid for them all and stood by the exit, waiting for her friend.

Why do you have to be so difficult Ari? The thought was playful but still frustrated in her head. Now Nell was focused on getting her a man, listing off guys she knew were older than the girl. She almost snorted aloud with the next thought. If she wants an older guy, maybe I should get her a professor. Breathing in deep, Nell smiled when she exhaled. ”All right, I’ll stop annoying you with my apologies,” she said, truly honest. After all, she didn’t want to get on Ari’s bad side because she was being so annoying.
It seemed that Ari was serious with her next statement. And Nell wanted to pay for that ticket to Paris. ”You’re making me hungry with thoughts of bistro and French cuisine,” Nell said breezily, even though it seemed bad thoughts were constantly plaguing her now that reality was always on her mind. She was trying to come to terms with the fact that a lot of the things she wanted to do she’ll never get a chance to. This freedom she had was simply an illusion she’d created. ”It sounds incredible, actually. Let's do it.” There can be hope, right? Her smile seemed more nostalgic than forlorn, but she knew there were very little chances of her going anywhere with Ari. And then the terrifying thought gripped her: she may never see her friend again after the trial. Then I’ll spend as much time I can with her now, she thought with determination.
After they hit Tilly’s, Nell pulled on Ari’s sleeve and said with mock gravity, ”Food court. Now.” Nell loved going to the food court, actually, and not just because of the food. There was always so many people there, and she just enjoyed how it was just like a forum for everyone. Or maybe she was just being weird, she didn’t know. She got her food and it was something she had no problems of going all out on. Frugality was something natural to her—buying mass amounts of food was also rather natural. ”Let’s find a table,” she said to Ari, hurrying over when she found a table that was free so she could set down her bags that were making indents in her skin and eat the food. ”Wanna people watch?” She grinned at Ari as ate her pizza, looking around to find someone interesting to point out. It wasn’t an odd thing in the mall, after all.
