Well, rumours about he and Nell were bound to get around at some point. There had already been a lot of stuff said about them even before he had actually asked her to go out with him, but now that it was actually true the stupid things that people spread about them had a lot less of an effect. "Oh, drop it," he said with a roll of his eyes when someone hinted none too quietly to their friend that there were sexual rumours filtering around about the two of them. "If we'd been caught doing that, they'd have done a lot more than put us in detention." He didn't get where people got a kick out of spreading stuff like that. There was still a lot of tensions between he and the rest of his element, but Joshua was learning to steel himself against them. It wasn't like they were going to stop. He wondered how much of this Nell had to suffer through and almost felt bad, but he figured she would bring it up if things got too out of hand. At least the Earth students are bound to be a lot more pleasant than the lot that I'm stuck with. These ones weren't as aggressive as the usual bunch, though, and they just glowered at him when he spoke. They were younger kids, probably realising that it wasn't wise to piss off a college student no matter how funny it might have been to see his reaction. It was a good thing, too. Joshua was in a pretty mellow mood today and he planned to keep it that way. Thankfully, they only stayed for a few more minutes before saying something about the mess hall and clearing out.
He was all caught up on homework and the like, but he felt like relaxing rather than joining the hell of the crowds in the mess hall. I'll just grab something to eat after school, he thought as he pulled his Rubik's Cube out from his bag. He was starting to notice little patterns and oddities in the way that the Cube was designed, so he had managed to get two sides in solid colour at once. "Now, if only I could figure out how to get the other sides to match..." His gray gaze was serious and analytical as he turned it over in his hands, not clicking away as he usually did. He'd found that working with it physically for too long messed up the careful patterns he was making. If he planned a few moves ahead and figured out which squares would be affected by each turn of a side, Josh thought that he would be able to work this out. Even though it had been quite a while since he'd set out to find the solution unaided by online guides or the expertise of someone who already knew how to solve it, Joshua was determined as ever. He was going to get this stupid thing to work no matter how long it took. Pulling out a notebook which had his observations and problem-solvings written down on it, perhaps he was taking this personal challenge a little too seriously. Still, he did believe he was getting somewhere. He wrote quickly and carefully the new things he had noticed, getting almost excited as he realised how close he was to his goal.
It took nearly another hour before the last square fell into place with a triumphant, "Yes," spoken from the boy. He was lying on the couch and paying little attention to his surroundings, so he hadn't noticed that there was someone else in the room. The freshman jumped at the unexpected noise and knocked over the glass of water she'd been drinking from. Looking away from the Cube and toward the girl as she quickly left--as if he hadn't noticed her mistake--it took only a wave of his hand to dry the water from the floor. The broken glass, however, was another matter entirely. He was going to need to be rather careful and make sure that no one stepped in it until the girl came back. She couldn't hide away forever, after all. He could have solved the whole problem himself by just getting up from the couch and picking up the glass, but Josh didn't do things like that. In his opinion, it wasn't his problem and so he shouldn't be the one tasked with cleaning it up. Really, he didn't even have to go through the trouble of warning people. Practically none of the Fire elementals were in his good graces right now except for Asha, so it would have given him a laugh if they stepped into the broken shards and hopped around the room yelling about their pain. Smirking now that he was sure that he'd solved the mystery of the damned Cube at last, Joshua messed up the sides again for several minutes and then set to work. He heard one of the doors open and called out a bored, "Watch out, there's broken glass on the floor," without looking up to see who he was addressing. Maybe if he had, Josh would have had second thoughts.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME
Life had been so much better in the past week or so. Harley had finally come to terms with everything that had happened. She was very far from that point. Of course, she had Samson to thank for that. He had been there from the start, and well, she hoped he'd always be there for her. Harley was actually--suprisingly for her-- happy. Not just the fact that she was over all the stupid drama, but because she had finally kissed Samson. Yes, kissed him. It was the best thing that could've happened, and at the right time too. It was like everything just fell into place, and she couldn't get enough of it. Of course there were still some issues that hadn't been resolved, but she didn't want to think much about that when she was so happy. But, it was like Charolette told her: She had to be the peace bringer or it would never happen. Harley wasn't even sure she wanted to mend things with a certain Fire student.
It wasn't like it was actually her fault he took everything the wrong way. Harley scoffed at the thought of him. Why was she thinking about that right now? She needed to focus on getting out of detention early. Yeah, Harley had managed to end back in detention for possibly hitting someone. It wasn't like she really hurt him that bad. The kid was probably just faking it anyways. Harley gave a dark chuckle at the thought. The teacher glared up at her, and she held her hands up in an innocent gesture. Well, she'd be here a while, so might as well get some work done. The red head pulled out some homework she had been given, and started to work on it. Harley got ten minutes into the work, and stopped. She couldn't do this; it was so boring.
Finally, after her hour nap, Harley was released from detention. She headed to the dorms; yes, they had let her back in. Thank the lords. Harley didn't know how much long she could've stood being somewhere other than in the Fire dorms. She had missed a normal bed, and the heat that came with it. She had missed being with other Fire students, not that she disliked other elements. She just liked being with her people more. There was still some tension with everyone, but otherwise it was all good. Harley felt at home. Though she did have to avoid him at all times, which wasn't very easy. Harley never knew where he would be, when he would be there. So, if she saw him, she always turned the other way. Charolette actually tsked Harley when she had heard the story. The conversation was still fresh in her mind too.
"Harley, darling. You must talk to this boy; he is a dear friend of yours. I know you still care for him, even if you are struggling with the friendship," Charolette had told her. Harley had given her typical eye roll. Joshua wasn't a dear friend of hers. She couldn't even qualify them as friends after she thought about it for hours after the actual fight. "Grandmother, you aren't understanding the situation. He's not worth me heartache anymore,"
Harley told the old woman. Charolette just shook her head, and got more tea. "Child, did you ever think that you two just needed to open up to each other? Let one another in? I know you fear telling people what happened to you, and what you did, but most of those students will understand. You cannot let one little fight dictate what happens between you two," Charolette paused, as if she were in the past, then contiuned, "I think if you approach him, and talk you two will see eye to eye." With that, the old woman left her. Harley was snapped out of her thoughts when she entered the dorms. The red head wasn't paying attention, so when a voice rumbled through the dorm, she almost yelped. When she recongized the voice, Harley froze with terror. 'Oh God. Maybe if I just run up to my room, he won't notice me.' Slowly, Harley started up towards the rooms, and mumbled, "Thanks." She stopped, and looked at the glass. Why the hell hadn't he cleaned it up? Was he that damn lazy? Harley sighed loudly, and went to find something to clean it up with so no one else would almost step in it. A few minutes later, she came back with some paper towels, and a broom. She started to sweep up the glass, and tried not to glance over towards him. Joshua hadn't really mourned the loss of their friendship quite as much as Harley had. Pathetic as it sounded, the Fire graduate was accustomed to the loss of friends thanks to his temper problems. He was quick to anger and not even the closest of his friends--except maybe Nell--were immune to that rage if they pushed far enough. Not only that, but the temperamental and prideful boy was never going to be the first or even the last to apologise. He didn't do apologies. He didn't like to admit that he was wrong about anything even if he was and on the subject of Harley and the argument they'd had, he really didn't think that he was too far in the wrong. Alright, so maybe he'd gotten a little hot under the collar and had snapped a few things, but that didn't mean she was completely innocent of the whole thing. She had suggested without even knowing the things he'd gone through that not everyone was out to get him. He'd never said that they were, but those words still managed to have an affect. What were the gang, then, ghosts? They'd only tried to kill him twice, it wasn't like it was a big deal or anything.
Did he regret it? No, not really. He believed that he'd just said what was on his mind. If she couldn't accept the fact that he was an angry person then they hadn't been meant to be friends to begin with. Of course, this was just what he was telling himself. It wasn't his fault, he wasn't going to take the blame for it. Joshua Dale was as stubborn as a mule when he had to be. So busy was he with the Cube that he didn't look up to see who he had spoken to, fixated on his puzzle and trying to figure out how to solve it. He didn't even recognise the voice that thanked him. If he'd been paying any attention to her whatsoever Joshua might have realised that he had just caught the attention of someone with whom he was no longer speaking, but he didn't care enough about anyone in this dormitory to try right now. Most of them would make a sneering remark about how he belonged in the Earth dormitories and then leave. That's fine, he thought haughtily. They can fuck right off. My girlfriend's a lot better to me than them, anyway. All of this had been for Nell. How could he regret it, knowing that?
It wasn't until the sigh that he looked up, gray eyes glittering with a slight irritation. "What's your problem?" he demanded of the stranger, sounding a mixture of irked and exasperated. He was sick of the drama that all of the Fire elementals whined about. They were a cliquey sort that usually enjoyed the company of their fellows, he was not. He didn't enjoy public rant fests in the dormitories. In fact, maybe he would leave if that was where this was going to go. Then Joshua's eyes fell upon the person to whom he'd spoke and his eyes narrowed. "Oh." That single word said everything, filled with distrust. They hadn't spoken since their argument and Joshua didn't really plan to start now. He wasn't in the mood to be all lovey-dovey and affectionate, he wasn't about to drop to his knees before her and beg for forgiveness. Instead, he kept his colourless gaze trained on her for a moment before he turned it back to the Cube.
Click, click, click.
"It's not my mess," he said somewhat caustically, having picked up on the sigh. "It's not my problem." She might have cared whether the brats that inhabited this place got glass in their foot, but he said let them. His bitterness was likely not matched by the girl, for she left the room. Joshua figured that she probably went to her room to do whatever, but she came back shortly after with paper towels and a broom. He didn't know why she'd even bothered with the former considering there was nothing spilled to be drying up... come to think of it, Joshua didn't understand why she bothered at all. Hadn't they kicked her out just as they had him? Maybe she wasn't so bitter toward their fellows as he. Joshua was never going to forgive what they did to Nell and he knew that he was also never going to live down the fact that he'd stuck up for the 'flower children'. His pride wouldn't let him try to get back in their good graces. Nor would it let him try for Harley. He continued to click away at the Cube, stubborn as ever.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME
Harley knew she shouldn't be so upset over the loss of a friendship, right? Right. She wasn't going to be upset anymore, it was like a mutal break up kind of thing. It was for the best if the two of them weren't friends anymore. They knew nothing about each other, and it wasn't going to work. Sure, she'd miss being able to say hello to him, and see him in the commons without freaking out. It wasn't like Harley was really freaking out over the fact that they had blown up at each other, she was pretty sure it would've come out eventually. She supposed the war just made everything come out that had been building up for years. It did sort of sting when Harley had discovered Josh hadn't trusted her enough. The red head had trusted him since she came to the school. He had been like an older brother to her, and well, she wished it was still kind of like that. Of course, Harley wondered if everything would've been different for them if they had told each other things.
Harley was trying to ignore her guilt, the guilt that normally wasn't there. She wasn't sure if was guilt for what she said to him or if was just because she an over emotional turd who didn't know how to control her newly found emotions. The red head didn't like them per say, but they were there, and it wasn't very cool. She wanted them to disappear, but they wouldn't. She was still great at hiding them, staying emotionless on the outside, but she on the inside, she had turmoil beyond belief. Her green eyes flitted towards his voice, and resisted the urge to roll her eyes, and scream at him. She kept herself cool and collected when talked to her like she was a fly pestering him. It's sort of the way she felt anymore, to anyone. Except Samson. She was glad that she found some happiness in all the negative.
Harley stared at him for a moment, trying to pick her words carefully. She had a feeling it would come out wrong either way. Harley really was trying to change herself, but there were somethings you couldn't change. "Oh, yeah. Of course that's the only thing that you manage to speak. I'm so honored by that one syllabal that you gave me,
" harley told him, and went back to cleaning the glass. Really, she did try to ignore him, but there was just too much tension to be ignored. When people say, "you could cut the tension with a knife because it's so thick", with these two you'd have to use a freakin chain saw. Click, click, click.Harley glanced up at Josh with annoyance all over her features. Why must he mess with that stupid cube? It was almost impossible to beat, so what bother? After Josh spoke, Harley proceeded to mock him as he talked. Was she really that bothered by him? " Yeah, 'cause you can't get off your ass for five minutes to clean something up," Harley mumbled under breath. Harley got up, and walked out to throw out the glass. When holding the glass, Harley managed to cut her finger, and let out a string of profanities. When walking back in, Harley had her finger in her mouth trying to stop the bleeding. She went to grab her bag, but the clicking was frying her nerves, when she shouted at Josh, " Must you play with your stupid cube? It is so fu--freakin' annoying." Her green eyes stared at him, her fists were balled up by her side. Yeah, she knew that this confrontation needed to happen. Like, now. Harley seemed rather offended and angry with his lack of attention and Joshua merely narrowed his colourless eyes at her. He didn't like being addressed the way she was speaking to him and even felt a little irritation seeping into his mood. His temper was an odd thing--he'd gotten ridiculously angry over something when they'd argued, but now he was just a tad miffed with her. What was her problem, anyway? He wasn't going out of his way to bother her and she seemed like she had a stick up her ass about him right now. "Pardon me for not being talkative enough for your tastes," he replied sardonically, not looking up from where he had his eyes on the Cube. Honestly, what did she want from him? Is she expecting an apology? Well, if that were the case then she would be sorely disappointed, thought Joshua stubbornly. He didn't do apologies. He'd apologised to Nell a few times but that was different. He felt, then, that he had something to apologise for. Josh was still firm in the belief that he'd been justified when he had gotten angry at Harley. (Of course, he had been wrong, but that had never stopped him from being self-absorbed before). His pride was an evil thing when it came to friendships.
He glanced at her yet again when she snapped at him, ire colouring his expression. "I am not picking up someone else's mess." His expression seemed to be daring her to challenge this. Joshua was rather entitled and arrogant when it came to things like this sometimes, that was true. He had grown up in a mansion where they had housekeepers and a butler to be in charge of everything (though Harley did not know this) and so he didn't normally have to worry about cleaning up. However, Josh was not a sloppy or disorganized person. If he had broken the glass then it was likely he would have done something about it. He hadn't, and so he was rather irate about the way Harley was acting as if he should have. "Just because you feel as if you should run around cleaning up after everyone--" He stopped himself there and shook his head. It's not worth it, he decided, turning his attention back to his puzzle once more and allowing its rhythmic clicking to soothe him. He couldn't afford to get so worked up over stupid Harley and her stupid issues. (He was busy trying to convince himself that Harley was the one at fault in this entire situation, mind.)
It was the last straw when she called him out for what he was doing. Whilst Joshua could somewhat understand irritation toward broken glass all over the floor, criticising what he did on his own time was not alright. "Well excuse the fuck right out of you," he said icily. Joshua now fixed her with an outright glare. If she had been anyone else he might have just snapped something sarcastic and went back to what he was doing but the fact was that she was being rather controlling and getting irritated over something trivial--he didn't think this should be allowed. No, this was not alright. "In case you haven't noticed, Harley, this is a common room," he hissed. "Meaning that any of the Fire elementals can use it?" He didn't really think she was stupid enough that she didn't understand the meaning of the commons--no, he was just angry that she thought she could comment on his activities or ask him to stop. No, she hadn't even asked him! She'd just expressed how annoying it was. I think you're annoying, does that count? He had enough sense to hold his tongue on that one.
"Why is it any business of yours what I'm doing?" he demanded. "If you're that annoyed by it, you can leave." He didn't feel as if he was crossing any lines by saying this; Harley could leave any old time that she wanted to. Joshua didn't want to leave... alright, maybe he would have wanted to leave, but his pride would not allow it. In this case, leaving would be catering to her better interests and he was much more keen on being self-absorbed when it meant not giving in to her.

SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME
Charolette always told Harley honesty was an excellent quality to have. At this moment, Harley disagreed with her grandmother tremendously. In fact, she was pretty sure that honesty in this specific situation shouldn't even allowed; it caused a lot of issues. Not that Joshua and she didn't already have enough issues, but it just sort of kept building. Every little thing he said or did just added to her list of annoying things. It would appear that Joshua was number one for that list. "Yes, God forbid Joshua Dale speak to anyone that isn't as high and fucking mighty as he.
" Harley sneered at him. It wasn't so much of speaking that bothered her, it was still that tiny fact he hadn't trusted her. Harley was sure that it didn't bither anymore, but the fact if the matter was that it did. Not that she woukd Josh know that. In her mind, she was absolutly right, and had done no wrong. Obviously, this wasn't the case. It was a case of an injured pride, and whose it was going to be. Certainly not hers. Or so she thinks. Harley turned her icy glare on him, and was tempted to try and bite back her retorts for the boy. She managed for a few moments before having to say something. " Yes, I forgot that everything revolves around Joshua. How silly of me to forget such an important thing," Harley said with as much sarcasim as she could. She rolles her green eyes at him, and instead of grabbing her things ansd leaving, Harley did the oh so mature thing, and sat down at the neartest table. She proped her feet up against another chair, and stared at him. Her green eyes just pierced at him, unmoving and unblinking. Obviously it wasn't the most mature idea she's ever had, but oh well. For a moment, his words angered her to the point she wanted to deck him right in the jaw. Thankfully the rational part of her mind kicked in, and reminded her that Josh was twice her size, and much more powerful. So, relied on her snarky comments instead. " Oh, well excuse the fuck outta me then for having the slightest bit of decency. Oh wait, that's right; I'm speaking to the royal highness. He doesn't degrade himself to such peasent work, her voice was pure venom, but sound sweet like honey. The Fire student couldn't help her snarky comments to him. He was asking for it, honestly. If he wasn't such an asshole, Harley probably would've ignored him and left him be. Sadly for Josh, that wasn't her mood at the moment. Harley was feeling fiesty, and ready for a fight. She had so much anger built up, it was bubbling over. When he began his little tantrum, Harley just leaned back, and yawned. Quite frankly, Joshua was just not imidating (totally spelt that wrong.) at the moment. When he was finished with his talking Harley yawned, then asked, " Good, are done with you tantrum now?" Harley paused for a moment, thinking of her next few words. " Don't patronize me Joshua. I'd rather not waste your breath, then blame for wasting your precious oxygen," she said with distaste. Harley never realized how much of a snob he really was until now. Wow, war really did bring out the worst in people. Harley leaned back in her chair, and drew in a deep breath. To help calm her, Harley drew in the warmth around her. She always took comfort in heat. The red head gave a simple eye roll at his last setence. " Why would I do that when I know my very presence annoys you?" She gave him a smirk; she had no idea if her being there really did bother him. Harley was just going with what she felt. Harley started to go off and snark him for every little thing that he said and Joshua simply allowed himself to lapse into a silence, listening to what she was saying and regarding her with an eerily calm expression. This was not a good sign. This time she was doing the opposite of invoking his temper, she was invoking his actual anger. This was a rational hatred, not the sudden and irrational rush of violence that he usually experienced when people bothered him. "I certainly don't pick up after a bunch of would-be murderers," he said coldly. He didn't care that she was basically calling him a lazy and entitled bastard right about now, what he cared about was how badly he wanted to wrap his hands around her throat. Said hands were shaking slightly from the influx of anger and it was only the intense focus that he gave the Rubik's Cube in the next moment that stopped him from throwing it at her. He was like a bull seeing red at this moment. How dare she suggest that he should clean up after the assholes that had attacked Nell? How could she sit there and act like he'd done something wrong by ignoring a mess that wasn't his to begin with? She was sitting here and insisting that he was somehow acting superior and this was pissing him off to no end.
"Well I'm sorry," he spat, standing up and not sounding sorry at all, "that I have no ounce of desire to clean up after the bastards that went after my girlfriend." His gray eyes were blazing now and it was everything he had not to go over there and hit her. He couldn't believe that this girl was criticising him for being immature and lazy when she was sitting there and acting like a complete bitch. Josh couldn't really see anything wrong with this damned situation at all. It was his choice what he did in his spare time, his choice to ignore the mess in the common room. He wasn't a leader any more, it wasn't his responsibility to pick up after the Fire kids. "Think about your sister," he spat, slightly bitter now. Her sister was the reason they'd gotten into the argument in the first place. "Would you be so fucking kind to them if they'd tried to kill her? I don't think so!" He was not yelling, but his voice shook enough to convey his anger nonetheless. Joshua was not the type of person that shouted when he was enraged, not unless his frustration reached an absolute peak. Harley might have been able to anger him but it took a very special kind of person to make him angry enough that he would raise his voice. Even in a towering temper as he was now, pissed off to the point where he felt like destroying something, his tone was still level, perhaps even lower than usual.
He shook his head in disbelief and exasperation. Tantrum? Tantrums were the work of toddlers that ran around wailing and screaming. If anyone was throwing a fit right now it was Harley, considering Joshua had neither initiated this conversation nor wanted it to drag out this far. He was not the one being snide and calling Harley 'your highness', implying that she was so snobbish that she could not clean up after herself. No, it was Harley that had done all that and Joshua'd had enough of it. "Oh?" he said, glaring. "If that is your version of a tantrum, Harley, then tell me--what do you call that fit you just pitched?" How the hell had they ever existed in the same friendly breathing space? She clearly hadn't been too fond of him at any point in time if she was so enjoying this confrontation right here. Joshua wasn't going to start cutting up everything she'd ever did, but he also wasn't going to let her insult him. "You are the one who is being immature here," he pointed out coldly. It was a good thing that there was a table between them. If the space had been clear it wouldn't have taken much of an effort to close the gap and show her (physically) what really happened when he was apparently having a 'tantrum'. "That is exactly what I meant by immature," he said with a scowl when she expressed no desire to leave. Apparently she was sticking around because she knew it annoyed him. "Do you get some sort of sick enjoyment from being a hypocrite?" he said with a roll of his eyes.
