It was hard to look serious while wearing large rubber gloves on your hands. This is what Nell found out when she had formulated a new defense against the Thunder students. Rubber was a bad conductor of electricity. But what to do about Fire? She was deliberating this as the friend sitting next to her turned and whispered so the professor couldn’t hear, ”What if they don’t zap your arms?” Nell grew flustered as she looked back and forth between the teacher and the fellow earth students. ”Uhh…I…” She groaned and laid her head against the cold wood of the desk. She could hear the sniggering around her from other students who probably thought she looked ridiculous with the things on. But she was trying her best to defend herself, dammit!
”Shepherd, there is no sleeping in my class,” came the stock phrase from her teacher. Oh joy, he was Thunder. Lovely. She picked her head up and her friend sent her a smile that was supposed to be reassuring, but looked more worried than anything. Nell grinned back as if nothing was wrong. Poor girl. Everyone was going around attacking her friends and it was very hard to deal with. She felt her stomach knot whenever she saw a burn on one of her friend’s arms when returning a book to her, or sneaking into the medical wing incognito to visit someone. This was just…stupid. So stupid. And there was nothing she could do to stop it, which only made it worse. She hated this powerless feeling, and she wanted to make it stop.
When the bell rang for the next class, Nell stayed behind and removed the gloves. ”Shepherd, let’s go,” the professor snapped at her as she was taking her time. She didn’t want to be out in the halls with all those people. It was one of the most terrifying things for her, other than going to the mess hall. Other than thinking about all this shit. She left after him still, sticking her tongue out at his back, then heading over to her next class. Unfortunately—to get there—she had to pass by the dungeons. Well crap. She held her breath as she walked, gripping the gloves tightly and prepared to use them as an impromptu weapon, hoping she wouldn’t bump into one of the students who liked to lurk around these parts, lying in wait to attack…

- I S I T I N T H E D A R K - . . . too tense to relax . . . Do you care about me?... Great, just great! Now tell me, what sort of a retard goes to math without not even a math book? Not to mention the homework. Of course, from all the possible days, this had to be the one she forgot about putting math things in her bag... Great, just awesome. Now it's detention for her, she knew it! Why? Oh, not because she forgot. Nooo, that would never get out. She'd get detention for being late, that's for sure. Actually, why was she even running to the damn class? Because it was right thing to do? Like really, not like she'd fall behind after missing one class, right?
The blond girl had been running through the dungens after retrieving her bloody math book. She was still in doubt on either she should go to that stupid class or not. Well, her math teacher did have a short temper... Guess what element she was. Guess right the first time, you get a golden star!
"Gahh, stupid book! Stupid homework, stupid math... stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid!" actually, she threw up the sheet of paper she was holding in her hand(said stupid homework) and sent a fireball at it. Then another few streams of fire while it floated to the ground. By that time, it stunk and the paper was nothing more than ash. Stupid homework...
The girl cussed under her breath while she cut the last corner... well, thanks to her temper, there was no use in going to that class anymore. But what she didn't know was that another person was there. She hadn't paid any attention to the noises around her, really, so... she only noticed now when Elly barely got to stop before running onto the girl.
"Oh... I'm sorry, didn't see ya there, hun."she gave out, glancing over the girl and making sure she really didn't bump into her. But wasn't this one... Nell? As in, The Nell? Oh, the friend Joshua refused to kill. Indeed. Well, the two girls hadn't really spoken much at all, so she didn't really have an opinion about her, yet.
"Nell, right? ... I'm Freya Ella Frost... then again, Fred or Elly is fine..." she wondered on, ony to give a nervous smile after that. "Sorry, what I meant to say is... Hi, I guess." she laughed lightly at her own fail just there. Oh, leave it to her to make a fool out of herself where normal people can't.

Nell was steadily walking, focusing on getting the heck down the hallway when she heard the muttering. With a gasp, she started waving the gloves wildly. ”Go away, pretty please! I don’t want to fight!” She stopped her flailing when she heard the apology. She looked closely at the girl. Her name was…Freya right? A Fire student? Apologizing? Well, that wasn’t right. Nell dropped her arms and stared wide-eyed for a few seconds before shaking the shock off. ”Oh, it’s okay, I didn’t either. Sorry. Kind of paranoid.” Understandment. Hardcore understatement.
The Fire girl knew her name as well, and she was only a bit surprised. A lot of people knew her name as well. ”I’ve uh…heard your name around.” Nell said, blushing a bit. It was awkward talking to a Fire student who was supposed to be her enemy. She only did that with Josh. And that was awkward, too, in a different way. But she was always one to give a person the benefit of the doubt. Even if they were supposed to be enemies. ”Mind if I call you Fred then? I like that nickname.” It was probably dangerous how Nell could be so amiable with people. Fire. Enemies. But… This girl wasn’t trying to kill her. And that’s a-okay in her book. And plus, Freya’s awkwardness was actually cute and made Nell chuckle. ”Hi to you too.”
Shuffling her feet, the Earth student decided to bring up something that would probably increase the awkwardness in her eyes. ”So…why aren’t you try to kill me right now?” That’s what people in the enemy alliance usually did. They attacked and hurt her and she ended up with quite a few wounds to show for it. ”No that I don’t appreciate it,” She tacked on as way of a joke. ”It’s just…odd for me right now.” Very odd to be faced with a Fire student she didn’t want to run away from.

- I S I T I N T H E D A R K - . . . too tense to relax . . . Do you care about me?... Bold. That girl was, indeed, a little bold. But that wasn't a bad thing, she assumed. Actually, Nell seemed like a really nice girl, even if Freya had just met her. Can't say she hadn't heard about her or seen her, but this was that formal meeting everyone should have once, at least. "Fred is fine." she gave out with a light laugh following. Well, that would make two people who call her that. Nell and Lyla... the worst part was, both of them were in trouble and she couldn't really stop it in either case. But she'd try her best in this situation, at least. Worst came to worst, she'd stand up to her own kind... The situation was just... wrong.
The next question shocked her slightly. The girl blinked twice and only then she relaxed and pondered on how to answer. She glanced around and leaned in on the girl, before speaking in a hushed up tone."Well, we get praised if we bring you to Alex alive..." Of course, she couldn't keep the chuckle in, after that. But really, she should answer with the truth, perhaps?
"To be completely honest, I have no place in this dispute. I've got nothing against you... and when I found out, from Joshua, what they - I mean... we are trying to do to you... Let's just say, I don't agree with this one bit." After saying that, she glanced around once more. Well, she'd probably get into trouble if any other fire students hear this. While she didn't agree with the way things were, she didn't wish to cause more tension within the group. So, as far as they know, she was one of them, just... never there to actually harm someone? If that made sense in any way.
"Oh, right, I'm probably keeping you from a very exciting class..." she began, feeling rather bad for forgetting such a thing. Well, just because she was going to skip math did not mean Nell was about to skip... whatever it was that she had to go to. If she was going to hang with Freya just a little, they would be better off walking. This might turn ugly, if other fire kiddies came out to play. Freya would have to make a diversion and then try to talk her way out of 'Why did you let her get away?' Not impossible, but... might cause suspicion, you know?

Nell nodded as the girl confirmed her nickname with an airy laugh. Oh jeez, this was so strange. Like this encounter shouldn’t be happening in this universe. No matter how kind and calm this girl came off as, she was still the enemy. She could still hurt her when she felt like it. And she very much doubted Freya would be one to turn like Josh had. At least he had known her beforehand, no matter how awkward their relationship truly was. Freya didn’t know her, and so Nell couldn’t really think of any reason for her not to kill the Earth student everyone is trying to get their claws in. Unless…she was truly that merciful. Nell really hoped that was it.
Freya seemed off-guard when the question came, and Nell tilted her head curiously. But the words that came from the other girl’s lips managed to wind dread through her stomach, even though she was at least already somewhat aware of this fact. ”Yeah,” Nell replied, more nervous now than anything. She had a feeling that this statement was a precursor to her being burned or grabbed and taken to the guy himself, and so she was ready to bolt. ”It would seem that way.”
But the girl didn’t make a move toward her. In fact, she managed to shock Nell even more with her next words. ”You…didn’t know?” Was she not in the mess hall the morning the leaders swooped in with their announcement, literally declaring a hunt for her blood? Which meant murdering her. Dead. But as Freya seemed to cagily inspect the area, Nell ducked her head, and said, ”Well thanks for not buying into the bull of war. I know it doesn’t count for much, and it’s a little too late to be saying this, but I just want to tell you…I didn’t kill Cynthia. I don’t know why they think I did, but…it’s just not true.” She felt pathetic trying to convince someone of this, but Nell just wanted to get her side out there. She never had before—especially not in America—and so she now felt the need to go around and tell everyone how innocent she was.
”Don’t worry about that,” the Earth girl replied easily. ”My life these days is much too exciting without classes, anyway.” She was sadly starting to make a habit out of skipping classes, sometimes out of fear, sometimes because her father didn’t understand that he wasn’t supposed to call her when she was in school. ”But I would like to get away from the dungeons, so uh…walk with me, talk with me?” She looked inquisitively at the girl, brown eyes no longer wary. Nell could trust Freya, right? Or maybe Nell was being naïve as usual, but…she felt good vibes from this chick at least. Turning on her heel, she started down the hall.

[I'll make this template thing work later. Now TV shows are at stake XDD Sorry!!!T^T]
The girl took the time to actually listen to Nell. She didn't respond right away, tho. But honestly, as from what Freya could see, this girl couldn't kill a person. She doubted the girl could kill anything... well besides plants and bugs... and even then, she doubted Nell enjoyed it. Either Nell was an awesome actress or she really wasn't some killer on the loose and out to get fire student blood. But it made her wonder... why did someone spread that false info to the leaders. Who would really gain from it? Who had no life and wanted to watch classmates and former friends turn against each other? But that would be a thought for later, now she really should respond in some way, at least.
"So... the gloves are not for burrying a body bag?" she gave out, still hlding a somewhat curious expression... Soon enough to flow into a friendly smile. "Hun, don't take this wrong but I don't think you fit the 'killer' profile, really" Seriously, Freya would figure that Nell could be loud or... super cheerfull, or even clumsy, but she would't really be the person you imagine when thinking about a murderer. Jack the Ripper... Now there's someone who fits the murderer profile. I guess, the point I'm trying to get through is - Freya believed her.
So, not that terified about skipping, huh? Good! She always thought it was too much to get hysterical about skipping one class. At least Freya never did. She had probably read ahead at one point or something. Indeed, she reads ahead when she's bored. Strange, isn't it?
"I'd be happy to accompany you, Nell." she said with a smile gracing her lips. Well, she wouldn't mind getting out of these hallways anyway. The girl wouldn't want to actually spit fire at Nell, even if she wouldn't really be doing it. The whole acting thing was too troubling. And if other fire kids were to jump in, she might not be able to be clumsy enough to knock back their attacks.
"But don't worry. In case Fire kiddies come around, I'll pretend like I'm giving you a hard time, before you magically escape me." she said with a laugh, knowing that wasn't really that reassuring. But it was the best she could do for now. If she were to speak her mind of things to them now, there would be only more anger and tension in the group. Also, she didn't really feel like getting hated by the fire students and getting kicked out. In Freya's case, she believed that the fire kids just need the time to calm down... and an event to open their eyes. Since fas forward is not the best approach, the girl just assumed if she'd try to give hints from the inside, this might end up better...

Nell laughed at the girl’s words, relieved now that it seemed Freya truly believed in her innocence. Thank god, thank the good almighty lord above! At least this was one less Fire student to worry about, in a multitude of others. ”Nah. I was planning to use them for self-defense against the Thunders, but…cleaning gloves aren’t that very protective.” Hopefully the girl would see her as less weird now. She wondered what she’d do with them now and just figured that she’d dispose of them or give them to someone who needed to wash some dishes.
Why did those words have to always make her sick? Even this Fire chick couldn’t believe Nell had a killer bone in her. And she was wrong. She didn’t kill Cynthia, though. The guilt was for her mother. But Nell laughed easily. ”How can I take that the wrong way? I’m glad I don’t look like a psycho murderer. That way the outside matches the inside. Plus, they’re not too attractive either.” And this is how she avoided serious things, through joking like this. How she lied, because if the inside matched the out, Freya would see that she was a killer.
Freya agreed to come along, and Nell was actually finding she enjoyed the other girl’s company. Nell felt surprised at something that seemed rather martyr-like to her. ”T-thank you.” Yes, it was very surprising. Little did the girl know, it was very reassuring. Nell lifted an eyebrow wearing her signature half-smile and said, ”You’re not like other Fire students, Fred, that’s for sure,” she said, shaking her head as she continued down the hall. If they were to be skipping classes, might as well get away from the Academy. In the back of her mind, Nell again wondered if she should be trusting the Fire girl so easily. Too bad she became way too easily attached to others. ”If you don’t mind me asking, is your family Fire too?” She wondered if it was in the blood and that’s why the kind girl turned out to be Fire. Nell deceived her genetics by turning up as Earth.

- I S I T I N T H E D A R K - . . . too tense to relax . . . Do you care about me?... So, the gloves really were for something else than dishes or some sort f gardening? Well, she wasn't sure what material they use for gardening, mostly because she really didn't like the thought of kneeling down in some bug-infested patch of ground. It would probably cause nightmares. You see, flowers tend to attract bees and wasps... Well buble-bees as ell, but those were more fluffy than wabting to sting. Tell you the truth, she wasn't sure the white-butts even did sting. But never mind, it was bad enough with wasps and bees. And always (I mean Always!) they wanted to sting only her. No really, just her. It was if Freya had a big red target slapped on her face and covered with honey...
Either way... She did find the idea about the rubber gloves rather amusing. It did show in her face, to be honest. Yes, righ there! A smirk she couldn't suppress no matter what. Yet, she didn't laugh. After all, the girl had tried, no? So, it'd be a little mean to laugh at her efforts... Yet, it would be funny... and still was. "Um, Nell... What if the thunder students wouldn't have shocked your hands? I guess, you could've tried catching every bolt with your hands... It might look sort of odd, but it might work, I guess." she said with a laugh.
And really, the girl didn't remind anything of a killer. Well, at least, Freya was sure she didn't posess an intent to kill. She sort of figured most of the Earthies were pacifists. Or she just hadn't met a cranky Earth student yet. Well, perhaps her biological mother was. She'd never know, she guessed.
Wasn't like the rest, huh...? Well, she had to admit, that was a little flattering. So, she was original! Ha! Take that, other fire kiddies! She could feel warmth in her stomach, thinking about that. And no, it was not because of something she had eaten. Was it her confidence? She had some of that? Great! "Oh please, you'll make me blush." she said with a light laugh.
And then there came the family question. She figured she'd get to that sooner or later. She'd just pick 'later' anytime. Well, she would reply honestly. After all, she was trying to convince the girl Freya was not about to leap on her. She was pretty sure Joshua already believed her, now she only needed to convince Nell. And she was pretty damn sure it wouldn't work well through lies. Besides, she wanted to get over it, right? So, holding it to herself and keeping it as some federal secret wouldn't help her get over it.
"Well, I guess that my second foster dad did have a temper of a Fire elemental." she began with a laugh. "But I'm not sure... my current foster mom said that my biological father was a Fire elemental and my mother an Earth... You see, my current mother is an Air elemental and my current father a ... regular human, if I can say so." Well, she didn't know what counted and what not, really. She hadn't been in one family long enough to actually grow too attached to her parents, so she didn't know if they really affected her in any ways. It's hard to monitor yourself, you know.
"So, where we goin'?" she asked as they walked further from the bad hallway. She was just curious she guessed. It was actually a little funny how the Earth students was leading the Fire student somewhere, not the other way around.

Nell figured the gloves would be quite the interesting thing for Freya. She became aware of how stupid they were a little too late. But the girl liked to consider herself an innovator. She was very crafty when the time called for it. But in this case, her cleverness apparently failed her. "Unfortunately, I thought of that afterward." Then she chuckled. "But I didn't think of going Wonderwoman." That's the image it conjured up for her, at least.
Freya looked like she was very flattered by Nell’s compliment, which made the latter smile brightly. She truly did love seeing others happy, especially when she made it so. It wasn’t even for her own satisfaction. It was just so that other people knew that they were amazing in her eyes. Everyone was incredible according to Nell. Except when you were trying to kill her or lock her up in prison. Then you were something less-than-amazing. ”I try,” she said breezily, finding it strange how much she was enjoying this Fire student’s company. It shouldn’t have been this way, but since she could sense zero mal intent. Well…she supposed she really was too trusting.
Nell caught the hesitation, and looked at the girl curiously from the corner of her eye, not fully looking in her direction. It seemed like everyone had family problems in this school. Everywhere, as a matter of fact. Since she’d been so hidden from the world before, she never realized this. But she learned to empathize with people in spite of it (or because). No, that wasn’t right. She didn’t learn how to do these things—she felt like she was born connected to people. Nell sometimes compared herself to one part of an ecosystem, like a tree in a forest connected to all the other vegetation. But that was probably her Earth student mentality speaking.
Foster child? Oh, that would explain the hesitation. But Nell didn’t apologize for that. In her mind, people didn’t want pity for something they offhandedly mention, just a passing remark. And they didn’t want pity in general. She certainly didn’t want that, which is why she so easily hid her own personal life. Nell nodded as she explained these things, her own lineage including her fostered one. ”I suppose you don’t know much about your real family, then,” Nell asked, a look of sincerest curiosity on her face, kindness in her voice telling Freya she didn’t need to explain anything she was uncomfortable with. ”I understand what it is like to have parents from two different Elements, though. My mother’s family is Water and my father’s Thunder.”
The girl really should have felt honored to have gotten this information from Nell, something she rarely talked about. And it’d be the only information about her family that Freya would get. Anything else would be much too uncomfortable. Especially since Nell both disliked talking about herself and disliked the family she spoke of. But something about Freya made her feel at least somewhat okay about revealing even simple personal information like that which would have usually been withheld.
Turning on her heel and walking backward now, she informed Freya, ”Anywhere you want! Since we’re skipping, I suggest it be somewhere away from the Academy…” Nell was usually a good student. Usually. But during a war where everyone was out to get you, she felt she at least deserved a little break. After all, she’d been working hard for a while because of her late enrollment. Of course she had Josh to help, but that didn’t eliminate all of the stress. ”Anywhere in particular you would like?”

- I S I T I N T H E D A R K - . . . too tense to relax . . . Do you care about me?... Wonderwoman, huh? She had to admit, Nell did have a nice sense of humor. Even Freya couldn't help but imagine Nell as Wonderwoman. Well, meaningless to say that laughter followed next. Just think about it... Frey just needed to imagine Nell with a cape. "Well, I'll be sure to give you a cape on your birthday." Yeah, she just might do it, too. Just imagine it, really. Nell with a cape and holding the bunny she just saved, while some epic car-crash plays out in the background. Can't you see it? Well, it sure as heck made Freya's day.
And true, she didn't really know much of her real family. Or how to be in a family, at that. Well, she had a sister for a while. Until she was given back the second time that is. But she was very glad the first response Nell gave wasn't something along the lines of 'Awh, I'm so sorry!'. That would make Freya actually pity herself or start thinking her life was really something that bad. She wasn't suffering every day, you know. Nor was that orphanage some sort of a cardboard box they put stray kids in. When you hear someone being sorry for your life you can't help but think you were all scratched up and sitting under a bridge, trying to get warm from a bonfire started in a nearby trash can. So yes, pity was something she didn't carve for. Of course, she had never let herself to have any. And maybe a day would come when she would want to be the one being pitied instead of comforting others, but who knew, right? For now, she was just glad Nell wasn't all over her and telling her how terrible her life must've been. "Yeah, I didn't really know them. Can't seem to find any relatives too, to be honest. I sometimes get the feeling my parents eloped or something." she said with a chuckle. At times she found herself just thinking up crazy storylines. Perhaps her father had to choose another fire elemental as his wife but instead found a nice earth girl and they ran away together. Just like in the movies, you know?
"So, your parents are opposites too, huh?" she repeated, actually glad Nell shared this with her. At least, it gave her the feeling she wasn't some freak of nature. After all, she had no idea what it was like for kids who grew up with elemental parents. Her first two foster families had been anything but elementals. "Thanks for letting me know, hun." she said with a kind smile.
"How about, we walk down to the lake? Lucky enough, most of the fire students are afraid of water. so, no one would be out to get you there, I guess... Unless there were thunder students, but you have the gloves, right?" she said with a light laugh. Well, it would be true. The fire students would really hang near the lake, seeing as it was more of a 'water student' area, thank you very much. And yes, Freya might get caught up in a fight if thunder students show up and she provides a cover for Nell by accident. But she wasn't really afraid of fighting. The chick could withhold pain more than your regular blonde chick. And if Thunder students really did show up, she doubted she would be the one dealing with the fire kids. But honestly, what was the chance of there being students at the lake during lessons? Then again, the two of them weren't exactly in their desks either, now were they...

It had been a while since she even thought of her birthday. Not like she ever celebrated with her mother, and it had never felt like a day to celebrate without Tilly. It took her a moment to even remember when it was, in August. ”I’ll greatly appreciate it,” Nell replied with a crooked smile, a permanent fixture on her face. ”I’d like to be fashionable while saving the world.” Though she didn’t think Wonder Woman had a cape, it actually sounded like a good idea. Yes, she was seriously considering going around with a cape, just because she thought that Batman looked cool with one and she actually had some comic books in her apartment.
She gave Freya her full attention while the other girl explained that she didn’t know much about where she came from. Nell didn’t necessarily wish for that kind of life, but something similar. It would be nice if she had never met her family, didn’t know where she came from. ”Well, you never know…some things are better left alone.” It was her way of comforting the girl who may have been aching for answers about her family, and something Nell knew from experience. If Freya looked, she may find things that displeased her. Of course, curiosity killed the cat, and if Nell was in her place she’d definitely be searching for answers to her lineage. ”But if curiosity ever gets you, have you ever checked the records?” Unless her parents’ were illegal immigrants, that would be a good place to look. She could trace back the Sinclair family far if she wanted to, but she was very afraid to find who she would be related to. Nell already had a feeling John Gotti was a relative of hers.
At the question, Nell merely nodded silently. ”Romeo and Juliet at its finest.” She had finally read the play, and had to wonder how people ever thought of it as romantic—two teenagers falling in love and threatening suicide whenever they didn’t get what they want? Too add, it reminded her too much of her parents. The enemy families, the idiotic teenagers falling in love too soon, but it didn’t end quite the same. It ended with a matricide. Nell lifted a quizzical eyebrow. ”No problem,” she responded, thinking how oddly sweet it was for Freya to be thanking her for saying something about her family.
”You don’t mind the lake?” she asked, soft voice curious. No, not many of the Fire students liked it around there, and Nell would have counted Freya among them. ”Are you sure you’d be okay…?” Nell was very concerned that Freya might get hurt. Even though she was being so kind to the Earth girl, the others probably didn’t know of this kindness. She didn’t want the girl who showed her such generosity to be attacked by Water students. The Earth girl felt like she would defend her and that would cause a few problems. Then she’d be retaliating against people who were protecting her. Why does it have to be like this? All these alliances and the pedantic style of war—it was incredibly ludicrous, especially now. ”I know I’ll be fine with my gloves and all.”

A cape... No really, Freya was thinking about a store that might really sell capes. Well, she couldn't think about anything but one of those places they sell costumes and random decorations. Or some sort of a market… She really didn’t know where people would get capes. Well, in movies, the heroes always got them made by some supernatural force or in some high-tech lab. Either way, she didn’t have a supernatural ability to sow and she did not have a laboratory. She wasn’t the Dexter type, you know… And to enforce her random train of thoughts, she could almost imagine her with red hair and glasses that somehow changed with her facial expression. And that lab coat… Then again, she could probably rock that look. Yeah, she might as well look good in a lab coat. She hadn’t tried yet. And while she didn’t really have a high self-esteem, the girl wasn’t worried about her looks. Yet, she still tried to care for others more than herself. You wouldn’t even believe the amount of trouble she would go through for a friend. It was reckless, stupid… might even be with complete disregard of her own life. Either way… she would really get that cape. She was thinking green, actually.
Perhaps Nell was right. Maybe Freya shouldn’t dig into her past. Who knew what she might dig up. ”Perhaps you have a point…” she gave out thoughtfully. It was strange, her current stepmother Isobel had told her the same thing. Well, not word by word, but she seemed reluctant to tell Freya everything she knew about them. The girl didn’t think too much about it at first, but maybe there was something she was better off not knowing? Yet, it didn’t change the fact curiosity hit her from time to time. ”I haven’t done it yet. As curious as I am, I don’t really have a hang of this ‘family’ thing. Haven’t been in one that long. And this might sound strange, but even if I found the relatives who never made an attempt to find me, what would I say to them? I mean, a ‘Hi, how you doin?’ won’t cut it.” the girl said with a light laugh. She really didn’t know what she’d say to her long-lost relatives. They had let her sit in an orphanage so perhaps they didn’t whish to have anything to do with her. Who was she to barge in on their lives and ask silly questions? Besides, there was that chance she might remind her family of her parents too much. Tears and walks down memory lane… yeah, she didn’t like the tear part, really.
”Well, I’m not the one, half the school is going after, really… besides, foolish, brave –or rather, reckless actions are a must for me, I suppose. It might be a bad thing, but I really can’t help it.” she laughed, her mind obviously set on the lake. ”The lake it is. Besides… all I have to do is make a distraction if they really come at me. It would be much, much worse if my side saw us, trust me. Well, I’d get you out of it, but the cursing and theories of some sort of a conspiracy would be too much. I rather risk getting caught by water students. There’ll be no questions, in that case.” Indeed, she didn’t seem too worried about her own safety. Probably, it had something to do with her element. She, obviously, had a bit more control with her anger issues. Well, then again, she hadn’t had a real reason to be mad. No one had trash talked her friends or endangered them when she was around. Yet another reason, going away from the fire kid territory was a good idea. Well, she couldn’t say that she and Nell were great friends, but for some reason, she didn’t think Nell was one of the toughest fighters around. Perhaps it was some instinct to try and help her. Besides, the girl was nice.
”Just, if we do get caught, don’t endanger yourself. My side come, I fail miserably in fighting, therefore making cover for you to run. Your side comes, I… well, I’ll figure something out.” she said in a thoughtful manner. Indeed, indeed. She seemed to think that Nell wouldn’t really fit in on a battlefield. And yes, she had met Joshua… ”I’ve spoken to Josh Dale once, but… I fear for everyone else who might have been there of something happened to you… Well, I fear for the thunder and fire students too, you know.” she laughed. Sure, she might be overreacting, but she wouldn’t want to go against Josh, one on one… well, she’d probably lose in the end. Screw strategies, that guy probably had a massive amount of mixed emotions to give out. Nope, thanks… she was brave and reckless, but didn’t want burn marks for the rest of her life… and yes, that makes sense.

Nell didn’t know what it was like to be adopted, so she could only relate on her natural empathetic level. However—if the law had gotten to her—she would have been placed in a foster home. Looking back, she didn’t know whether or not it would have been a good idea. But it was too late for ‘what if’s and so she didn’t entertain those kinds of thoughts for too long. Instead, she offered Freya an encouraging smile as she said, ”I’m sure you’ll get used to it once you stay in one family for a while.” She herself didn’t know how a normal family functioned, so she couldn’t give much advice on that front. All she had were her observations now of seemingly normal family, who quite possibly could have disturbing problems beneath a shiny, white-picket façade. She guessed only time could tell with Freya, and she truly hoped that the girl found the family that she needed. Freya posed a very good question, and the Earth girl took some time to truly consider it. ”Well…if you ever do find them and wish to speak with them, I’m sure you could sit down and ask them questions. Like why they didn’t look for you.” Whether Freya actually went searching for these people or not was her own prerogative.
Tilting her head with the other girl’s words, Nell had to disagree. ”Everyone’s a target in this war.” Sure, she may have been the main quarry, but that didn’t exempt others from being attacked. Including Freya. She was sure the girl may have been a target at one point or another. ”Well then, Miss Reckless, is it possible to deter you from your ways?” Though Nell said it jokingly, she truly didn’t want Freya to get hurt. Even though she was the enemy, Nell at least gave her the benefit of the doubt for now. ”I’ll do my best to defend you too,” the Earth girl said with great enthusiasm. She didn’t want anyone to be hurt so she’d try her best to split up a fight. Which usually wouldn’t end well. ”But, since it is so dangerous to be seen together…” Nell looked into the other girl’s eyes imploringly. ”Maybe we shouldn’t be seen together going to the lake. I know that you’re neutral and all, so it would be better to avoid each other…” Then, realizing how this may come off, Nell waved her hands. ”N-not that I don’t think you’re nice or anything, you really are! I’m just worried about your safety, is all!” Even though she was Fire as she kept reminding herself, she really worried about everyone’s wellbeing.
Nell honestly didn’t think it was worth the risk. She didn’t think she was worth any risk, but putting someone in danger… Well, that went against everything she tried to stand for. She simply bit her lip pensively at Freya words, nodding a bit while she looked off. At the mention of Josh, Nell laughed a bit and shook her head. ”Yeah, he can get a bit overzealous…” But she was thankful for his support, and even more so worried that he was putting himself through too much. ”But I completely understand your concern—I mean, you are their ally. So…” Nell took out a pen from the books in her arms, and made a beckoning motion with her fingers, gesturing for Freya to hold out her arm. ”Since I like you and all, we can hang outside of school if you want.” She didn’t necessarily trust the girl, but again—benefit of the doubt.

- I S I T I N T H E D A R K - . . . too tense to relax . . . Do you care about me?... Perhaps Nell was right. Maybe Elly would just find her relatives, sit down, have a cup of tea and end up in tears and a group hug. Yeah, maybe that would just happen. Well, Freya wouldn't know. The people hadn't made an effort in finding her all her life. Perhaps it was just sixteen years too late for some family movie scene, teaching some life lesson and scattered with stupid jokes. Maybe Freya didn't really care that much. She had started off without parents and couldn't get her real ones back now. So, maybe there was no use in ripping open old scars of her original family? Maybe they didn't even want to find Freya in the first place? She already was a teenager, the girl didn't need more problems, thank you very much... Heck, she'd probably look into this after school. For now, there was a frigin war going on. She didn't feel like dragging 'family drama' in her life for now. The chance of her getting a happy ending was rather slim, after all. She was optimistic about a lot of things but when it came to families, she had her doubts. There was still a chance that her current parents could drift apart or turn out like the Trescots, right? Well, no thanks. she didn't need more potential messed up family members than she had went through in all her years. God, maybe she'd end up like some of the worst cases herself in her old days. Heh, perhaps she'd be one of those sarcastic old ladies, watching talk shows all day and spewing remarks others could live without. that would be fun, she figured.
Well, while everyone was, indeed, a target in the war, she would suggest that Freya might as well walk around without a worry. Worst came to worst, fire students seemed to sense fights and come rushing over. The element had this 'pack' thing too, so it helped a lot. As for Earthies... she always figured the lot of them were well... pacifists without an intent to kill. And seeing how half of the school was targeting Nell, it might just look like Freya had the better chances. "Heh, a few cuts and bruises don't scare me. No one is really trying to kill me, hun." she gave out perhaps a little too light heartedly. She did hate this war, but moping around wouldn't really help anyone. But she might give up the idea about the lake. Maybe, just maybe, she might not be able to take on a bunch of water and earth kids without a good supply of burning material behind her. To be truly honest, what made her quit the idea about the lake was the girl's promise to protect her too. Well, it wasn't a promise but Freya saw so many bad results from that. Sure, she might get through with less injuries but the girl might end up making Nell a traitor. Now, that would end up really really weird. Sure, some kiddies of the thunder element and fire element might just approve, but that was not what she was after at all. Freya was used to being the one with the hero complex. No really, she was programmed to be reckless and heroic most of the time. While she didn't really trust a lot of people, she always did what she thought was 'right' so to say. Yeah, just give her a cape. She already has the powers! "Fine, fine, I won't give you a heart attack by being reckless and endangering my life." she laughed. Awwh, Nell really cared about her? Well, wasn't that just the sweetest thing ever?
She looked a little confused at first but stretched out her hand when she motioned her to. Oh, was she about to put down her city address or number? On... Freya's arm. Well, hey, it wouldn't be the first time. Besides, the blonde didn't have anything else on her besides the math book and she really didn't want to write in that thing. She got in trouble frequently enough. Oh, the math teacher just loved her, didn't she? So yes, writing on her arm was going to do, if anything. "Yes, I am rather likable, ain't I?" she smirked.
'Mss. Frost?' the voice behind her called and when Freya did turn to see who it was, she could help but show disappointment in her facial features. Awh, man! It was her homeroom teacher. Awh... crap. That woman already knew she was supposed to be in Math. Otherwise, she wouldn't have her arms crossed over her chest and be tapping her foot.
"I guess, I'll run in to you some other time then, hun." she gave out before a heavy sigh. There was nothing left to do than admit defeat and slump over back to class. Of all the hallways, of course her teacher had to be in the same one Freya was in. Yeah, that's just how life worked.

Freya’s reassurances only made Nell’s lips purse in worry, though she tried not to let the expression take over. She didn’t stop worrying, ever. Every day was spent worrying and fussing over other people to make sure that they were all right. Especially during a war, when everyone was getting hurt. The thought made her gut twist. She wanted it to stop. Right now. It all needed to come to an end before anyone else had to be attacked because the blame had been wrongfully pinned on her. But Nell’s face broke out into a smile as Freya assured her that she wouldn’t go getting herself into trouble, now properly reassured about the other girl’s safety. She didn’t care if Freya was a Fire, Nell didn’t wish harm on anyone. Ironic, being a murderer and all, her thoughts came round to mock her. ”I’m glad I got through to you,” she said with a laugh.
Nell quickly jotted down her number on the other girl’s arm, capping the pen with a smile. ”Call me any time,” she said as she winked and held up her fingers next to her ear in the sign of a phone. At Freya’s words, Nell chirped, ”You are!” Even though she was Fire, Nell still thought she was really nice. Hey, you’re friends with Josh. But that was different. She didn’t even know he was fire when they’d first met, and though that had not been the best meeting, they still managed to work out. And now he was on her side, against his element. She didn’t want this girl to have to do that for her, though, so she thought it would be best to avoid each other in school so neither of them would get into trouble.
What must have been Freya last name was called out, and Nell looked up at the teacher, her usual smile on her face. But it stunk that she’d have to bid farewell to the Fire student. Jeez, that’s weird. Nell tried to forget about that little tidbit of information for the sake of her sanity, but it was still there. In any case, she waggled her fingers as she said, ”See ya then, Fred!” Yep, she was still using that nickname. Now it was back to the war and back to trying to figure out a way not to get electrocuted to death. How pleasant.
