Ashton had agreed to follow her along to her house, a suggestion she made after the faux mental breakdown that had occurred by the side of the lake. He had agreed instantaneously, anything to have Asha calmed down and pulled away from the core of her fears. Rising on shaky legs Asha slid her hand down his arm to have her fingers twined with his. It wasn't a romantic show of affectionate, more like a symbolic show of comfort that she could draw from. If her mind hadn't been in shambles over the lake side incident Asha would have taken notice that she actually drew pleasure from having her hand tangled with his. Her breaths were ragged, catching in her throat until they had wandered far off enough to be closer to the forest than the lake. Even though she was still stifled with fear leading came easy to her, directing Ashton closer to the road that lead away from the academy and to Maple Hollow. "A walk would be too long..." Asha said, peering down the road. It took ten minutes to reach the town by driving a car, walking down the same road would take ages. Her shaking legs wouldn't be able to carry her that far. Peering back over at Ashton her lips pursed together while she tried to fish through her muddled mind for a solution to their problem. "I just need my phone..." Her hand remained securely placed in his as she made a trek back to the lake, her body nearly melting to jelly when they were closer to the shore. Asha swept down and from the pocket of her abandoned shorts fished out her cell phone. In her eagerness to steal away from the lake she nearly toppled over Ashton. "I think I have new fear of lakes," Asha bitterly grumbled before dialing a number into her phone.
Her phone screen darkened after a brief and to the point conversation with a gravelly voice. She mumbled something about tiredness, a ride, and Ashton before the other end of the line disconnected. An unstable hand shoved the phone against Ashton's chest. "Take my phone. If I hold it then I'll drop it. Oh, a ride for us will be here in ten minutes too," Asha murmured, closing her eyes and willing herself to grow calm. Nothing had ever managed to upset her to such a degree, it was all unsettling and left Asha feeling even more fearful. "I'm never going to be able to look a fucking lake the same ever again. Lakes can now be added to my list of fears," Asha scowled, her voice colored clearly with disgust. Water was something she could very easily do without, considering it even became a challenge for the fire girl to take a shower that was longer than ten minutes. Admittedly, her life would become more difficult without working water into it. How would she was her hands or become clean? No one would want to be around her if she reeked more than a can of garbage. To Asha's distaste water would have to be forcibly based around the use of water. A few minutes of silence passed between them while they awaited for their supposed ride. Asha didn't have the forethought that not everyone lived as luxuriously as she was able to, therefore it wasn't a worry that Ashton could possibly have his mind blown by the appearance of a chauffeur. Her ears were trained to the sound of the car, the sleek black Mercedes Benz appearing as if she almost expected it to show at that exact time. Asha turned to tug on Ashton's hand, peering back at him. "Ladies first," she managed to dryly joke as she uurged him to climb into the car.
A roughly fifteen minute drive was the time that they were confined to the car. Asha could never sit still, not even when anxiety clawed at her insides and reduced her to a shaking mess. A roughly fifteen minute drive was the time that they were confined to the car. Asha could never sit still, not even when anxiety clawed at her insides and reduced her to a shaking mess. Looking out the window was what she firstly resorted too, her face glued to the glass as she took in the passing by scenery. "I can't stand being in cars. Having to stay all still and being refined to one seat," Asha whined, turning back over to look at Ashton with a bored stare. "I used to force my father to make it so that the cars had enough room so I could move around freely," she distractedly commented, shifting restlessly in her seat before peering over at Ashton. Her hand was still tightly twined with Ashton's, her anxiety rolling off of her while she gazed out the window in a silence full of a thousand words. "Miss Asha, we have arrived," the gentle voice of the age driver alerted her. Tugging on Ashton's hand she silently commanded him to open his door and lead himself out. Standing in front of their guesthouse Asha didn't think anything, barely glancing at the simply made structure before flipping the door open. The house was clean and looked newly purchased, completely impersonal and lacking a comfy feel. "It is nothing too great. The actual house looks better, more presentable," Asha said, slamming the door shut and flicking on the living room light. Her hand still loosely grasping his, Asha directed him into the master bedroom. The room was various shades of white and crisp looking, it seemed that no one had ever laid on the bed for a night's sleep. "Lay with me?"

Ashton was terribly concerned for the poor girl, noticing how even walking seemed to be difficult with how shaky her legs were. He did his best to keep them both standing, not tugging his hand away when she laced her hand in his. It made his arm tingle with surprise, but he tried not to focus too intently on it. The contact meant nothing to Asha, surely, she was probably just terrified that she was going to somehow fall back into the water even as they got further and further away from shore. Then Asha realised that she had forgotten her phone. "I could--" He had been about to offer going back and getting it himself, but she was already heading toward the lake. They were still stuck firmly together thanks to her grasping of his hand, so Ashton trekked along obediently and kept silent any complaints he might have had. He was an understanding guy, and one of such things he understood was phobias. They were bad and they were uncontrollable, so making her go alone would have made him a complete asshole. "It would only make sense," he pointed out fairly, seeing how upset she was about the lake thing. He would have been scared of them too if he'd almost drowned three times. Twice her brother had tried to end it for her, but why had she insisted on trying to swim? That had been a pretty stupid move, but while someone a little less compassionate might have made fun of her or otherwise scolded her for the attempt, Ashton would say no more on the subject. She was upset, that was all. Maybe he'd question her later about her rash decisions, but for now he just wanted to make sure that Asha was able to calm down.
He fumbled a bit in surprise when she suddenly shoved her phone toward him, but Ashton managed to save face by keeping it in his possession rather than dropping it and making a fool out of himself--and possibly pissing Asha off, as well. "Alright," he agreed, but then his brow furrowed a bit in confusion. "A ride? Oh... okay." He'd heard her muttering into the phone but hadn't really listened to the words--it wasn't polite to eavesdrop, after all. Ashton just figured that Asha had probably called up a friend or maybe even her parents. He was not, however, expecting the chauffeur that drove up to the Academy gates. Green eyes blinked in surprise, and he glanced at Asha as if confused. Was this the ride she'd spoken of? The only confirmation was the fact that she told him to get into the car, suggesting that this was indeed her plan. "Nice one," he acknowledged with a good-natured roll of his eyes. She was prodding yet again at his lack of true masculinity, but he had a feeling now that she was joking around. He wasn't that great at determining when the Fire elemental was being serious with him or not, but she wouldn't have invited him to her home if she wasn't being nice, right? He was compliant as he got into the car, curious about the driver but not about to ask. Asha told him about her dislike for cars, something he had never known about her before. "I've never got the appeal of driving myself, actually." He wasn't as restless as she was, but Ashton had always preferred biking or walking as opposed to sitting in a car and just... well, sitting there, whilst the driver did all the work. He was learning to drive himself now that he was of age, but it was difficult for someone like Ashton who was so paranoid about messing something up. On the road, if you messed up that meant you could possibly kill someone in an accident. He kept his fingers laced with hers the entire way there, a silent sign of his willingness to comfort her.
They arrived in front of a house, and even Ashton picked up on the somewhat impersonal feel. He just figured that her parents might be rigid with neatness or something, that is until Asha spoke. The younger boy blinked, surprise registering in his bright emerald eyes. "Actual house?" His tone sounded hesitant, as if he wasn't sure he wanted to know what she meant. If this wasn't their house, then what was it? He wasn't used to luxury and the like, so the fact that the chauffeur would normally indicate a very rich family hadn't quite clicked with him yet. Using her grip on his hand, Asha had pulled him through the living room and toward what was clearly a bedroom. He blinked when she asked him to lay with her. Asha was such a strange girl. He didn't know about the fact that she used to cuddle with Shea, so to him it just seemed like an odd quirk. Still, he was a very agreeable and easily swayed person. He would have felt rude refusing her after such an ordeal, and besides... there was a small part of him that was interested in entertaining the situation. "Sure," he agreed, nodding. "Feeling any better?"

"Yeah, actual house," Asha turned back to look at him with a curious stare. Why did it seem like such a surprise that this was only a guest house? It was only a slight revelation of the showy and expensive wonder that was claimed as the Woods estate. Asha had been raised in wealth, even in the days of when her father was new to MMA world and only launching off his career. To think about living anything less than luxurious was something that Asha couldn't comprehend. Tasteful and wealthy was the sort of atmosphere that she had grown up in. "I don't understand why you sound so shocked...." Dropping his hand Asha wheeled around to face him, her chocolate eyes squinting at him. Her mind couldn't wrap around the fact that Ashton had grown up with the same lifestyle as her. That he came from a middle class family that lacked all of the nice excessive things she had been provided with her whole life. Slowly her mind warmed up to the thought, astounded at first but then realizing it made sense when she recalled how confused he had been at the sight of the Mercedes Benz and personal driver. She let out a sound of shock, something that sounded like a gasp that been caught in her throat. "Wow, I'm feeling pretty stupid right now..." Asha murmured, laughing at the lack of intelligence she had on the situation. She peered around the master bedroom, taking in the stiff niceness of the room, then looked back over at Ashton as she pointed at him. "You're going to have to excuse my ignorance. I sort of assume everyone has it as good as I do. I'm just now realizing how horribly wrong I am for assuming that," Asha bluntly said to him. She wasn't intending to come across as a rich brat, only relaying to Ashton that she hadn't been clued in enough to realize how good she actually got to live.
Was she feeling better now that she had escaped the clutches of the lake? After having to return back to the shore and a restless car ride she at least felt that like she could take a breath and stand surely on her feet. Yes, she was feeling exceptionally better after the breakdown that she suffered after nearly drowning for the third time. She gave Ashton a soft nod as a reply to his question. "I can actually breathe now. I'm not shaking either." To give more assurance to her words she held up the hand that wasn't obstructed by a splint, displaying that now her hand wasn't trembling with anxiousness. Ashton seemed genuinely worried about her, wanting to earnestly know if she was feeling more at ease or not. Asha didn't know how to take that, honestly. He was an earth kid, worry and concern seemed to run through their veins. Would he have agreed to return to her house with her if he didn't care for her beyond his normal worry? Why the hell did she even care about how much he really did focus on her? It shouldn't have been anything that Asha would dwell on. Earth kids didn't matter to her. Then why did she invite Ashton back to her home? Hell, it hurt to think about it all. Asha gave a shake of her head, all of it only causing her brain to ache. The thoughts were too intricate, she just wanted to cuddle right now. "Thank God we don't have a lake or anything. I don't ever think I would want to come home then. I mean, I guess my mother's pond doesn't count. Hell, I don't know," Asha rambled, giving another shake of her head before rubbing at her temples. Obviously her mind was still muddled because of everything. Whatever, she was in the guesthouse and about to relax with a person who she actually felt comfortable around. Ashton Raleigh, of all people.
Her hand reached out again and softly took hold of Ashton's, absently lacing her fingers through his. It felt nice. What? Now that she wasn't trembling with terror Asha could knowledge the surge that ran through her fingers from making contact with Ashton. Her mind started, unable to understand exactly what the emotions meant. They were holding hands, something that was generally a romantic notion. Was anything romantic occurring between them? Ashton had kissed her...but hadn't he been attempting CPR? "I dunno how soft the bed is. After the guests my dad over a few months ago we had to buy a new bed. They left some interesting things for the maids," Asha said, looking over at Ashton with a suggestive smile. She wouldn't go into details, simply allow his mind to wander. Her gaze turned over to the bed. It was huge, just like her own bed. A king. It looked comfortable too, something that Asha could sink down on and doze off for hours. She couldn't sleep now though, Ashton was with her. Tugging on his hand Asha climbed onto the bed after kicking off her shoes. "You can climb on, y'know. I'm not going to attack you or anything, I'm still too shaken up." She was serious, giving him a wide grin. Her hand was taken from him after she unlaced her fingers from his. She became occupied with crawling on the bed experimentally, testing out the comfort of the mattress and deciding whether or not she actually liked the bed. "I deem this bed as comfortable," Asha finally declared, plopping directly onto the middle of the mattress and sprawling her limbs out.

Ashton flushed sheepishly as Asha expressed her own confusion. He began to search for the words to tell her that his family weren't rich enough to afford the driver, let alone an entire guest house like Asha had. The Raleigh family wasn't exactly poor, but they had never experienced high-class living. His father was a mechanic and his mother a writer--the latter had erratic pay, whereas the former wasn't too much to begin with. But Asha seemed to catch on without his help, and he ducked his head a little. "It's okay," he said earnestly when she asked him to excuse her ignorance, shaking his head. "It's pretty normal to think of your own life as average if you grew up with it." It must have been nice being raised with a chauffeur and a large amount of money, but Ashton didn't know the lifestyle to yearn for it. He'd grown up through a modest background and thus was accustomed to the lifestyle, so it wasn't like there was jealous toward Asha or animosity over the fact that she hadn't realised. "My family aren't rich, but they do okay." His mother was a writer, and even though she wasn't too notable, one of her books had made the bestseller list. He'd been a lot younger at the time, only around age seven, and that was when they'd moved for the first time he could remember. Living in a bigger house had been nice because he'd gotten his own room even though his brother was added to the family. As for her intelligence on the matter, well, he didn't think that she was stupid. It was pretty hard to get Ashton to dislike someone or think lower of them than he did himself. Just because she was rich and didn't have to worry about the qualms of paycheck-to-paycheck living didn't mean that she was stupid. A bit ignorant, maybe, but he didn't count that as her fault. As long as she didn't think herself as superior to him he'd be fine with it.
A light smile graced his lips as she held up her hand. It had confused him at first, but then he realised that she was displaying her lack of shakiness now that the ordeal was over. "That's good," he said. He really was concerned for Asha, even if he didn't understand why she mattered so much to him in such a short space of time. He tended to get attached to people rather quickly--it wasn't that he was clingy or anything, just easy to trust and give his all in a bond with another person, whether it be friendship or something else. He didn't have a lot of people he hated, either. It took a lot to make Ashton detest you, and for that reason his grudges tended to be permanent. If you angered him to a certain point, you crossed a line you couldn't get back over. Even despite treating him like crap for a long while, Asha had never reached that point with Ashton. "Can you even own a lake?" he chuckled, amused by the mere thought of something like that. His backyard wasn't even big enough for a pond (well, maybe a small one) let alone an entire lake. "Is that legal?" Just as Asha was ignorant to a life without money, he was ignorant to a life with it. He didn't know the limits and restrictions that came with owning a property. If you had enough money you could really buy anything, couldn't you? "Your mother owns a pond?" It surprised him. The only thing his mother had were her books. Dad paid for the car and the house and most of the utilities as well--Analynn tried her best to contribute with her writing, but her additions to the family funds tended to come in bursts thanks to the fact that she wasn't a sponsored writer at the moment and only got paid when her books sold.
Ashton made a bit of a face when she planted a rather sick mental image in his brain. "Asha you tease," he accused, but he was smiling nonetheless. He liked joking around with her, even when the jokes took a more suggestive turn. Seeing as Asha was taking off her shoes, he also removed his. The girl tugged on his hand and he watched as she unlaced her fingers before quite literally sprawling out on the bed. "Looks like it," he chuckled. "If I was concerned about being mauled I wouldn't have come all this way, now would I have?" He grinned at her and then flopped down on the bed beside her, sticking out his tongue playfully. Damn it, what the hell was he doing? Some part of his mind clued him in to the fact that it was almost provocative to be lying in bed with a girl--though they were both fully clothed minus shoes--that he'd just kissed not too long ago. Had it even been an hour? That wasn't even a kiss! he reminded himself sharply, though it had definitely turned into one and Ashton couldn't deny that no matter how much he wanted to. It wasn't that he hadn't enjoyed the kiss, he just wasn't entirely sure where they were, now. Where had it left them? "This bed is pretty comfortable," he mused thoughtfully. It was pretty soft, too. There was enough room for them both to lay down without needing to get too close, but Asha's sprawl made it so that they ended up close regardless.

By no means would Asha ever assume that she could be more highly ranked than Ashton simply because of the wealth that backed her name. Her negative traits shined through a great deal, sometimes more notable then the good that was buried deep in her. But there was no way in hell that even Asha Woods had a superiority complex when it came to the money that her family possessed. If she were going to be completely honest then Asha would dare to say that Ashton was a better person than her. Would that opinion ever be voiced out loud? Hell no. Well, at least not yet. Not yet. Why was her mind so insistent on jumping to assumptions that confused her greatly? Before her head started to pound from frustration over her thoughts she turned her attention back to Ashton. "You're so kind, accepting my ignorance so greatly." She glanced over at him with dreamy eyes and waved her hands in front of her face, miming that his kindness towards her ignorance left her swooning. Asha soon recollected herself and then stared over at Ashton quietly, taking in the fact that he was someone who would reside in the middle class section of Maple Hollow. Their ways of life couldn't be compared, Asha wasn't aware how it felt like to depend on a paycheck and worry over which bills needed to be attended to first. "Shea is my neighbor too, so having a best friend that comes from the same walk of life makes you even more ignorant," Asha said, resting her chin on the bed and closing her eyes. Shea wasn't someone that she wanted to open her thoughts to. Instead of focusing on the absence of her best friend in her life she let out a sigh. "Is it hard?" Asha was asking about the way he lived life, she was curious.
Her eyes fluttered open, catching the smile that set onto his lips and causing a soft smile to curl on her own lips. How was it that when she saw his smile it could so easily coax a smile to match on her own face? Asha wasn't going to bother searching her brain for an answer, it was a fact that she would accept without any qualms over it. His concern made her feel...good. Knowing that someone was panicking over her somehow gave Asha a comfort that couldn't be explained. It didn't even matter that the person who was concerned about her was Ashton, Asha actually preferred that it was Ashton. She gave a nod of her head, agreeing with his words. "A calm Asha is the the best kind of Asha to have," her worn voice said, working out the words as if it were almost a challenge. A calm Asha was laid out on the bed at the moment, her nerves at ease and even soothed by having Ashton laying beside her. Was this really the guy that had been at the expense of her torment before? Asha was almost shameful against her past with Ashton. Regret? Asha never felt remorse or anything of the like. Her soul searching soon ended, disturbed by the questions that Ashton was softly prodding her with. One eyelid lazily opened and she peered over at Ashton with an amused expression. "If you buy it from the people who have rights over the land then sure, I guess." She wasn't exactly sure but what she spoke made sense. Right? The technicalities were something that she never bothered with. They weren't anything that really mattered to her, so why try and delve into them? She giggled then at Ashton's other question. "She does. It's the latest addition to her garden. The koi fish are supposed to be arriving tomorrow, I think," Asha said, furrowing her brows. Her mother had been yammering on about her garden for the last few days now. It was a subject that had quickly gotten worn out.
"That face your pulling is hardly attractive, Ashton." She looked up at him and mimicked the face, puckering her lips and scrunching her nose. Only a few seconds passed before she had smooth out her face, her laughter keeping her from continuing to tease Ashton. It was all so easy, joking with Ashton and teasing him with jokes that leaned more towards the sexual side. Shea was the only other person that she could joke about so freely. Ashton was so quickly being compared to her best friend, the person that she had known since the age of seven. "I'm no tease! If you want something from me all you have to do is ask." Asha made sure to catch his gaze and lift her eyes brows to waggle them suggestively. The words had slipped past her lips before she had understand exactly what she was saying. Her face began to heat up, was she actually flushing? Ashton had only said three words and had made her blush! She had stripped in front of a guy before as a dare and even then she hadn't felt her face go hot when being completely exposed to a near stranger. What the hell was Ashton doing to her?! The answers were something she was going to dread knowing, that was as much as Asha could muse. Prying any further wasn't possible, Ashton was already dragging on further into their conversation. Ducking her face slightly Asha rushed to find something to say. "I might not be the one that you have to be afraid of. Ace lives here too, you know." They weren't words that were meant to startle Ashton, only the first thing that had come to her mind. Remember, Asha had no filter when the things that she said were concerned. She was close to Ashton now, he had plopped down and was left fighting for space since she had so greedily flopped onto the bed. Asha instinctively inched closer to him, her body facing his. Why did this feel more different then just laying with someone?

Ashton stuck out his tongue at Asha when she made a 'dreamy' face at him, guessing that she was kidding. "Kindness isn't my middle name or anything, but I try." His middle name was Camden, and he had never really questioned why his parents had named him as such. It was just a part of his name and he left it be. Most people didn't grow to learn his middle name anyway, so it wasn't like it came up often as a topic of conversation. On a whim, he mused, "Middle name is Camden, actually. Apparently it's a city in... well, somewhere. Or a town. I don't even know." He wasn't sure why he'd told her such a pointless fact about him--it seemed he was just talking for the sake of filling the silence, something that he usually didn't try to do with people. With most, silences were nothing. But when he fell silent in Asha's presence it reminded him of how strange their entire situation was. By all rights and purposes they were not supposed to be getting along. This wasn't normal for Earth and Fire elementals. Of course, if Ash had known about her parents he might have begged to differ but the simple fact that he'd never gotten along this well with a Fire elemental made it different. "I've never really spoken to Shea," he said with a nervous chuckle, remembering the fiery friend of Asha. She frightened him as most of the Fire elementals did, given the fact that they were usually out for blood. He wondered at Asha's standing in the war for a moment, but then decided that she probably wouldn't sit and talk to him right now if she was really concerned about keeping up with the alliance. He almost asked, but kept his mouth shut. No need to bring extra awkwardness into this conversation when it was going so well. He hadn't managed to truly piss her off yet, and he was going for a record stretch here.
He was a little surprised when Asha asked after his lifestyle, wondering if it was hard and sounding genuinely curious about his answer. His lips twitched into a gentle smile as the Earth student shook his head. "It's not too bad," he said. "We can't afford fancy dinners every weekend or anything like that, but the bills are always paid on time and we're not starved in the least." He blinked at Asha, realising that she probably viewed 'hard' much differently than he did. The boy didn't hold a thing against her, however. Ashton was always so genuine and couldn't really see someone else in a bad light unless they really screwed over their reputation with him. "I've never really known the luxury life," he confessed, "so I wouldn't know it to crave it... if that makes sense?" If Asha was forced to live his life, she'd probably pine for her fancy car and her seemingly infinite funds. She'd miss the space of her mansion and the chance to eat out whenever she pleased. But Ashton had never lived like that, so it was more like an unachievable pipe dream from his standpoint. But he'd never really yearned for it, either. If he really cared about being wealthy he'd have tried to get a job as a doctor or a lawyer, but as it was the boy wanted to be a gardener or a florist or maybe even something completely different, he hadn't decided yet. It only made sense that he should go into an occupation that suited his element. "I guess you really couldn't call it easy, either, but it's all I've ever known." He finished his words with a nod, the smile slipping into a bit of a grin.
Ashton didn't miss the flush spreading through her cheeks, and soon both of them were ducking their heads and realising just how awkward the moment was. In an attempt to joke back, he winked over at her and said, "Oh really? So what would you do if I asked right now?" Perhaps this was a stupid thing to joke about when you were lying on the same bed and cuddling up next to someone, but cut the two teenagers a break, here! It was quite the strange thing to see them interacting so civilly, so the fact that they were cracking crude jokes was just a testament to the fact that they really didn't know what to do with the situation. Then Asha mentioned her angry twin brother and Ashton could have sworn he felt his blood cool by a few degrees. Ace? As in her scary brother who would probably murder him on the spot if they ran into one another? But Ashton was seriously trying to keep his masculinity in check around Asha--she'd teased him enough already--so he merely chuckled a bit. Hopefully she'd be too distracted to notice the light nervousness that had wedged itself into his tone. "Ace, huh? Won't he still be at school?" After all, he and Asha had only ditched because she'd been panicking over the lake incident. He wondered if her parents were also home but decided against asking. Hopefully they didn't come into the guest house very often, because seeing their teenager daughter cuddling up to some guy they'd never met before might provoke anger. After all, wasn't Asha's dad some sort of fighter? This didn't help his nervousness, but he tried not to think about it. "I had classes, but I think I'll just ditch the rest of the day. It's not like they were too important." One might think that Ashton was some suck-up goody two shoes, but he did skip sometimes. He wasn't a saint, he was just a good kid. There was a marginal difference.

Having him stick his tongue out at her was extremely immature, exactly how Asha was feeling and expressing herself. She reached out across the bed and used her pointer finger and thumb to tug lightly on the tip of his tongue. Her face screwed up with disgust as she felt his saliva on his fingers, causing her to laugh furiously. "Stick your tongue out one more time and I might have to rip off your tongue for real," Asha lightly threatened, taking her hand and running it down his back to rid her fingers of his spit. Her chocolate eyes gazed over at him, actually listening with interest when he decided to reveal to her the origins of his middle name. It was completely random but she was still willing to listen to what he had to say. With anyone else that had been in a conversation with her Asha would have shoved them while telling them to gain a longer attention span. Instead she bobbed her head, showing that she actually had been listening. "Ashton Camden," she sung out, craning her neck back dramatically. Her actual singing voice didn't sound that terrible, mind you. "It's cute." Her lips curled back into a smile before she spoke again, "My middle name is Avery, just in case you cared." Asha was laid out beside Ashton while discussing middle names with him. How often did this actually happen? N-e-v-e-r. Which is why it was inexplicable as to why Asha had dissolved into such a state of comfort. For a moment the easiness vanished from the conversation when Asha scowled. "Let's not mention Shea anymore," her words were scathing as they left her mouth. Nothing else was said from Asha, for fear that she would erupt.
Upper class, middle class, lower class. Asha had never given much thought to the stands when it came to income and the how much revenue each social standing actually acquired. She gave Ashton her rapt attention when he spoke, his words seeping into her mind and nestling into her thoughts. It would be a thought that she actually be able to recall later. He made a remark about how his lifestyle wasn't too bad, which received a scrunching of Asha's nose as response. She reached out and softly traced the outline of his lips, finding that the smile he was making was absolutely attractive. Asha didn't even try to fight off the thought this time, knowing that her mind would only battle against her. "That sounds like it would be a living hell to me," Asha admitted grimly, taking her finger from his lips and allowing her hand to drop down onto the bed. The money of the Woods wasn't "old money," like the Dales had or even the Birds. Both her parents had come from normal lives, her father's dreams onto set into action with the raw determination of a young man who refused to see his dreams die. With a little thought Asha understood the words that he was speaking, his confession making sense in her mind. She gave him a slight nod, telling him that his words connected with her. "You can't crave something that you've never actually been able to imagine." Her words sounded deep and meaningful. Did Asha have the ability to come across as deep and thoughtful? Yes, actually. On the subject of living Asha had honestly became curious, wanting to peek in Ashton's life and try to relate to his everyday way of life. She couldn't relate. "You clean up very nice for never blowing an extreme amount of money on a shirt," Asha offered him a twisted compliment, picking at his shirt with a grin.
She was blushing, her face was heating up at a suggestive comment that Ashton Raleigh had made. It hadn't even been an extreme comment to take seriously. Asha had heard the joking air in his voice, still slightly surprised that Ashton was teasing her. Lifting her head, Asha gazed over at him and clearly spotted the wink that he was directing towards her. Her lips formed a suggestive smile, her eyebrows raising to waggle at him. "If you really want to know the answer then you're going to have to ask." Were her words still playful and light or was there seriousness lying under the supposed teasing tone? Honestly, Asha couldn't decipher her own feelings towards the words that had left her mouth. Ashton's response would determine her next action or words, Asha decided. There was silence between the two, Asha still wasn't comfortable with her thoughts so she chose to occupy herself. Asha shimmed closer to him, leaving on a few inches of space between them. One hand propped up face while the other was busy with drawing senseless figures up and down the skin of Ashton's arm. Ace was now the next subject that had Asha had to dance around, she wasn't very keen on making him the center of their conversation. "I don't know. I really don't care. He ditches as he pleases." Her words came across saying that it wasn't something he would really have to dedicate all of his worry to. "My parents shouldn't be home either. My mother is at some design convention and she insisted that my father come along," she said. Would he be more comforted by knowing that it was only Asha and the staff of personnel that surrounded him? Ashton commented about how he wasn't going to head back to the Academy for the rest of his classes, causing Asha to take her hand from his arm and press it against her face. "You're going to spend the whole day with me?" She was feigning surprise. Joking with Ashton really did feel nice.

Ashton didn't expect Asha to reach forward and grab his tongue, and it wasn't like he could cry out in alarm considering he needed the thing to talk. When she let go and started laughing, however, a bit of a grin blossomed on his features and he chuckled as well. Confusing as she was to him, the sheer matter of how bizarre this was provided enough to amuse him. She threatened him and then ran her fingers down his back to rid them of spit, both of them dissolving into laughter and just enjoying the company like he would have never thought possible. "I suppose it does sound nice when you sing it like that," he agreed, amusement still sparkling in his green gaze. He knew she was kidding but he was still surprised that she'd actually managed to listen and be attentive as opposed to telling him he was being lame. "Avery," he repeated when she told him her middle name, then grinned. "I like it. It suits you." Asha Avery Woods. He now could boast that he knew her full name, not that this really mattered to him. The conversation took more of a negative turn when Shea was mentioned, however, and even the oblivious Ashton could tell that it was a sensitive subject. He wondered if they'd had a fight or a falling out--why else would mention of her best friend upset her?--but he didn't ask. Instead, Ashton merely dipped his head. "Okay," he replied, fully ready and willing to be compliant on the subject. If she wanted to keep this quiet it was entirely up to her, Ashton had no real right to press her about it even if he did want to know what it had been about. Not because of a general desire to know, mind you, but because he wondered how Asha was faring about the situation. Still, he'd stay true to his word and not bring it up again.
He stayed still when her finger traced itself around his lips, though the surprise registered a little in his face. He wasn't used to people being this touchy-feely around him, but he also wasn't going to protest. The contact caused an almost nervous fluttering in the pit of his stomach as he once again reassessed their situation. What was he doing? What was he thinking? Before Ashton could delve into over-analysing, however, Asha was off and telling him how his life would be hell for someone like her. He chuckled and nodded. "I figured as much," the Earth boy confessed, glad that they had found a topic of conversation that could distract him from his thoughts. He even managed a smile as she verbalised her understanding of his situation. "Exactly," he said, nodding. "I suppose it works both ways, but there's no way you'd crave my way of life even if you had experienced it," he laughed. Ashton could be good-natured and light about the fact that she had a lot more money than his family because it didn't seem that Asha really looked down on him. This was something he respected--a lot of rich kids were pompous and stuck up, holding their money over the heads of others and providing constant reminders that they were and would always be better than you. It made Ashton irritable when people flaunted their funds like that, such an unnecessary thing to do. It had caused him to acquire a bit of a negative light toward the wealthy, but with any luck Asha would change that for him. "I try," he said, unable to resist grinning when she offered her (albeit strange) compliment toward his shirt. He didn't know whether she was serious or not, so he just gave an ambiguous answer which was open for interpretation.
Asha challenged him with her words, teasing as usual, and for a moment Ashton actually hesitated. Was she continuing with the joke or was she actually being serious. She continued to talk and he continued to listen, confirming that they were probably safe from her brother and from her parents as well. It felt odd to think that they were alone in this house without knowledge of anyone else, actually. She was tracing patterns on his arm, it made his skin tingle and his stomach twist further in confusion. Did Asha do this with all of her friends, or was it an exclusive thing? "Well you see, I have drastically more important things I should be doing..." It was sarcastic, made obvious by the fact that he added a grin on the end. He really didn't have anything to be doing at all, so it wasn't like she was pulling him away from some life-or-death situation. Seeing as he hadn't got a chance to answer what she'd said before yet, Ashton gave a little bit of a chuckle. "Say, hypothetically, that I asked. What would you do?" Was he asking? It seemed pretty clear that he was, even though this was probably reckless and impulsive and a bad idea. He was asking for... for what, exactly? Ashton hadn't thought it through, but maybe the girl lying next to him who now had her hand on his face, possibly corrupting his sensible train of thought with how distracting the gesture was. What would his parents think of this odd friendship? They were a tad old-fashioned and they thought it was ridiculous when an (unmarried) couple even held hands in public. He and Asha weren't even a couple. Then again, it wasn't like he'd been married when he'd done other, less innocent things.

Ashton wasn't aware of how affectionate Asha grew to be with others when she was comfortable with them. Typically she began to tackle them and invade their personal space right after they had moved past the stage of awkward acquaintances. Had there even been a stage with Ashton and Asha where awkwardness had even existed? Asha gave it some thought and she couldn't recall anything like that had existed between them. They had plowed straight forward to where Asha felt like she violate him without Ashton having any qualms about it. This realization only made more questions about their relationship, or lack of it, form in Asha's mind. Frustration only swelled when Asha allowed the questions concerning Ashton bubble and simmer. So she would make it all simple, she wouldn't even think about any of it. Thought really wasn't necessary when she was poking at Ashton with taunts and replied in a good nature. "Ashton Camden Raleigh." She said each part of his name with finality, like she was the closing opinion on whether or not his name flowed. "It flows," she declared. The amusement that sparkled in Ashton's gaze was equally matched by the humor that was sparked in Asha's chocolate stare. Peering over at him Asha stuck out her tongue when he said something about how Avery suited her. "It sounds like a grandma name. I'm not eighty," she protested, smiling fiendishly. Having a cane wouldn't be that bad. She would be able to beat anyone that annoyed her with it. At that moment she decided aging wouldn't be too terrible. As long as she had a cane. Shea wasn't even a concern of hers anymore. Ashton had pushed her out with all of his pleasantness.
She quickly confirmed that she saw nothing wrong with how much she found pleasure in reaching out and touching Ashton. It wasn't supposed to be thought of in a sexual or creepy way. Asha always found comfort in having contact with others. That was the reason why she deemed it okay to walk down the halls with Shea's hand clasped around her own. Independence may have been something that Asha prided herself on but the stability of others was also something that she thrived on. A contradiction if you've ever heard of one. His chuckles only made her furrow her brows at him until he spoke and she then gave a nod of understanding. "I have ten credit cards, each without a limit to cap my spending. You can only imagine how being thrust into a middle class life would screw me up," Asha informed him, speaking somberly. She wasn't flaunting the fact that the amount of money she had to blow on anything was practically limitless. Her example was simply so that Ashton could try and grasp the reality of what Asha was speaking about. She leaned forward, coming closer to Ashton so that she could take her point finger and prod softly at his chest. "I wonder if you would think differently about craving something you can't have if you were to live in my life for a week," Asha thoughtfully mused. Her mind refused to offer up the possibility of having Asha attempt to live like any kid who came from a blue collar working family. It wasn't a plausible thought so she wouldn't even open her mind to it. "I drive a Lamborghini. Would you trust yourself in one of those?" Asha was now flaunting her car while mixing her bragging with curiosity. She couldn't help it, she loved her baby.
Was she being a tease towards him? If Asha was then it was never really something that she had actually ever acknowledged. Okay, maybe she was a bit of a tease. Asha had told him about the happenings on the mattress of the master bedroom, challenged him to ask to receive something from her, and was placing herself unnervingly close to him. The last bit was sincerely something that she couldn't refrain from doing. Naturally she liked to hover closely to people and for some reason Ashton was someone who she gravitated towards. She had asked him to come back with her to her house for a reason, right? Well, then what was that exact reason? Dammit, Asha couldn't have given an answer if her life depended on it. Irritation began to simmer but soon was dosed out by a scoff that came from because of Ashton's words. "If you had better things to do with your day you wouldn't be sprawled out beside me on a bed right now. You laying beside me right because you like me or you're just a lazy ass," Asha teased, looking over at him with dancing eyes. There she went again, speaking lightly with no sense of whether or not her words held a trace of seriousness. She stared at him with eyes that looked like they were mulling over something that had taken up all of her thought. The corner of her eyes crinkled and she parted her lips to speak, "Hypothetically I would do whatever you wanted me to. I have a pretty good idea of what you want too." She spoke slowly and surely. Each word came out carefully, like they were sacred promises. Her face dropped and came closer to Ashton's, closing the margin of space between them. Her lips hovered right in front of his but Asha didn't move further anymore. Now the choice was up to Ashton. She would be hurt if he pulled away, a part of her was admitting that. What the hell was he going to do?

Ten credit cards? Ashton's green eyes went wide in his head--he didn't even have one card to his name, and he could bet that if he did it would certainly have a limit. Still, it made perfect sense that Asha would never survive in his lifestyle if her parents gave her that much money, so the teenager just nodded. A brief smile flitted across his lips as she poked him. "Maybe, maybe not." He wasn't the type to crave a life of material wealth and tons of cash. He was happy with his family and their middle class life. Sure, Asha's lifestyle and benefits certainly seemed like they had their perks, but he just didn't feel the sort of pull to it that someone with future ambitions might have. The boy would be completely happy to grow old as a gardener with only a comfortable little home to his name. He didn't need vacation properties and fancy cars to keep him content. In Ashton's life, wealth was more of a pipe dream than a reality. That didn't mean he was clueless about the expensive car brands, so when she mentioned a Lamborghini it shocked him out of his reverie. "You drive a what?!" He'd seen a Lambo before, presumably one belonging to the upper-class families of the Hollow, but he'd never actually been close enough to inspect it. His knowledge of the cars came only from their name itself--he couldn't tell you the differences between brands nor even what these individual brands were called, it was simply the title 'Lamborghini' that had caught his attention. But then he smiled a little deviously, teasing as he said, "Maybe I'd trust myself, but who would trust you to drive it?" He was clearly joking judging by the soft chuckle that followed. Fast cars were dangerous cars, but if she hadn't managed to crash it yet that was saying something.
Ashton pretended to have a serious internal debate over her words. "I don't know," he said slowly, as if this was really something he had to think about. "I guess I am pretty lazy, huh?" Even though he was kidding around, it begged the question--did he like her? And what exactly did she mean by like? Ashton was comfortable enough around Asha by this point that he could admit to feeling some sort of connection, a friendship with the girl who could have once made him run off with a single glare. Now they were lying on the bed in her guest house joking back and forth. He'd saved her life twice, she'd saved his ass once, they had crossed some sort of an invisible line that made it so they definitely were not enemies any longer. So yes, friendship was something he could admit to. But did he actually like her? The thought made his throat tighten a little. He wasn't sure how he felt about Asha Woods. He'd never developed a crush on a girl like her before, certainly not so soon after getting to know her, but the kiss had felt good, hadn't it? Even Ashton couldn't deny that he'd helped to draw out the kiss for much longer than necessary. The moment he realised that the 'CPR' was not working, he should have retracted from the girl lying on the shore of the lake and apologised profusely for being a failure at any sort of medical procedure to stop drowning. But he hadn't. Then again, neither did she. God damn it, this was so confusing! Thinking about it made his head hurt, but the more he tried to convince himself to stop thinking the worse his mind became.
He wasn't really sure what he'd wanted, but Asha seemed pretty certain as she replied to his words. It had really only been intended as a joke, though it now seemed they were both taking it seriously. His breath caught behind his lips for a moment as she leaned in close, lips almost touching his... but not quite. She was teasing him, wasn't she? Struck by the sudden realisation that he wanted to close the gap, Ashton wondered at what Asha might do if he kissed her again. Pull away? Get disgusted? Laugh? The idea of having her humiliate him was quite flustering and made him want to back out, but then he found himself recalling the 'kiss' and remembering how irritated she'd gotten when she thought that he hadn't enjoyed it. That meant that Asha liked it, too. So it was safe? Oh, I don't know. Then he did something that was usually so unlike him--he acted on impulse and closed the gap, initiating the second kiss before he could even fully register what he was doing. He caught himself after a moment, but this only made him deepen it for a moment before he pulled back with a teasing little grin. Ashton, what the hell are you doing? "I think you guessed right," he said, and he could hear his pulse pounding in his ears. This was crazy. This was juvenile. And yet it made his heart race like he was getting up to no good. Ashton had never had a love for trouble before, but somehow this felt like breaking a rule and liking it. He thought about it for a moment before deciding that he liked the feeling. Very, very much.

Why wasn’t it awkward for Asha to think about the romantic feelings that she was beginning to experience towards Ashton? She couldn’t any explanation as to why she enjoyed reaching out and touching him or didn’t feel disgusted when his lips had been pressed to hers. By nature she should have enjoying stomping all over him and find some sort of twisted pleasure in seeing him squirm when she prodded at him with her relentlessness. Asha now couldn’t imagine any of that occurring between the two of them. The start of their friendship had been very brief up to now. Could you even call whatever was bringing them together a friendship? Hell, Asha wasn't even sure now because she had never participated in a friendship like this. Ashton and the friendship he was offering seemed to defy boundaries that ever seemed to have existed. Any other Earth elemental wouldn't have been spared when it came to her wrath. She wouldn't have even thought to serve as a savior for any other Earth student when she had gotten word that some of her fellow Fire allies were intending to torture the Earth leader. Asha felt an instant protectiveness over him, the sort of need to have him safe even though it seemed that he could have cared for himself. Asha had no protests to whatever she feeling with Ashton, curling up against him and feeling his lips on her was actually something that she was beginning to prefer. Hell, it seemed that he was beginning to start transform some things about her.
How wrong had it been for her to take his joking words seriously and actually act on them? She felt nothing saying that she was traitor or sinister when she moved herself closer to him and tauntingly hovered her lips over his. His reaction was everything that was waiting for. If he moved away then Asha would confirm Ashton had been purely joking and the kiss that had happened by the lake had been a huge misunderstanding on her part. The bigger part of Asha was hoping that Ashton would take the offer of her lips and reassure her that she hadn't been set up on false hopes. Asha could honestly admit that she was surprised when out of nowhere Ashton's face came closer to hers and their lips were then meshed for the second time. It was only a subtle kiss at first, her lips gently pressed to his as if they were both almost hesitant. Feeling Ashton smile against her lips gave Asha a clue that it was okay to deepen the kiss, her lips melting against his. Asha wasn't too pleased to have to tear her lips from his but she did, keeping one of her hands resting on her face while the other touched at her lips in slight shock. "I tend to be right," Asha murmured, closing her eyes for a moment to relish the moment. "Damn, Ashton. You do know how to kiss," she murmured, leaning forward again and pecking her lips to his sweetly to prove that she actually did enjoy the kiss. "Hold on, I need to make sure that the third kiss will be just as good as the others." After a small laugh and leaned in towards him again and pressed her lips to his.
( CRAPPY ENDING ! )
