As of right now, your character can only be a human, a vampire, or a werewolf. I don't think that this will change, but knowing me you never know.

Vampires

Vampires are usually dark and silent, preffering to be off on their own rather than socializing in a large group of students. They don't make many friends, but they embrace the isolation rather than shun it. They have supreme speed, strength, agility, and senses. Their sense of sight, smell and their hearing is increased. They do drink blood, but it is usually animal blood that they are forced to drink at the Academy. Human blood is the preferance, but unless you can find a willing donor, you're stuck with deer. Oh, and they can't fly.

Werewolves

A lot more social than vampires, you still couldn't label a werewolf a friendly puppy. They're usually a bit more tense around the full moon, because this is when they change, like in all those legends you hear about. They are stronger and faster than a human. Werewolves can often have a nasty temper, so it's not always wise to cross one of them. They can be male or female, though most of the legends speak only of males. The werewolf is the natural enemy of the vampire, though at the school the two usually keep the peace.
