CLOTHING STYLE Whatever's clean. Ashton isn't really picky. He tends to like softer colours and fabrics as opposed to bright and daring, though.

POSITIVE TRAITS
- OPTIMISM. Ashton always looks on the bright side; even when a situation looks grim, this boy is ready to find the silver lining on a storm cloud. He doesn't like to see his friends wallowing in pessimism, either, so he'll do his best to cheer others up with his opinions as well.
- RELAXED. He's an easy-going, laid back sort of guy. He's never been the most hyperactive or energetic of elementals but he's certainly not someone hard to get along with. Not a lot tends to bother him thanks to his positive outlook, though that's not to say it isn't possible.
- ACCEPTING. He doesn't judge people at first sight and he's generally accepting of everyone--whether it's on the subject of their religion, sexuality, lifestyle, ect. He doesn't like to see his friends in any sort of trouble so he'll try to discourage certain things if he can (like drugs/bad relationships) but he's generally alright with everything else.
- SOCIABLE. He's good at making friends and he's even better at keeping them around. Ashton's pretty tough to hate unless you've got a problem with his personality or outlooks, and his genuine attempts to make others smile are usually well-met. He has a wide social circle but he'll treat most everyone equally.
- LEADERSHIP. As he's so good with people it's only to be expected that he's a good guy to have in a position of power. Unfortunately, his slightly laid-back attitude sometimes lets others believe that they can walk all over him, and this can definitely lead to negative things.
NEGATIVE TRAITS
- MALLEABLE. Sometimes it's just too easy to convince Ashton that your way is the right way. On his own he tends to follow rules and abide by laws, but if his friends tell him that any sort of misbehaving is the "fun" thing to do, he just might be convinced.
- NAIVE. He's certainly not a prude about sexual matters and he knows how the world works, but sometimes he's just too willing to believe that anyone can have a good side and that there isn't anyone who's pure evil. It's got him into a lot of trouble in the past.
- TRUSTING. Not in a good way. He'll take someone's word on almost anything and is quick to forgive the past errors of someone's ways. A lot of people have used this compassionate nature to trick and hoodwink Ashton only to hurt him at a later date.
- HOPELESS ROMANTIC. He doesn't seem to do too well on the relationship front. Though he's had several girlfriends and can't even claim that he's a virgin any more, none of them have worked out.
- SELFLESS. Once again, this can be good in some aspects but for Ashton it usually doesn't turn out that way. He'd give his last dollar to his friends and leave himself homeless if only they asked. Sometimes people exploit this to their will even if they aren't in any danger.
LIKES
- His element. Ashton gets along well with the other Earth students and sees them as somewhat of a family.
- Nature. This should go without saying, considering he's an Earth elemental after all.
- Snowboarding. It's the only sport he's taken a real shining to and though he doesn't brag about it, he's really good on the slopes.
- Talking to people. Ashton's quite the friendly guy once you get him going. He's shy at first, but easily opens up to others.
- Autumn. It's his favourite season because of all the colours and because of Halloween, of which he is also fond. He loves helping his little brother plan costumes.
DISLIKES
- Violence. He doesn't believe it should be used to solve any sort of conflict. Ashton believes in peaceful solutions as opposed to bloodshed.
- Being used. He may be a tad naive, but he isn't totally stupid. He can figure out when someone is just using his kindness for something in the end.
- Frost. Ashton likes the winter-time because of his snowboarding and snowball fights with friends but he doesn't like how the frost kills all his plants.
- Pessimism. He's really bright and optimistic, has a good outlook on life, so he doesn't like to see things the opposite way.
- Bullying. The Fire and Thunder students tend to pick on his element a lot, and that really irks him. He'll stand up for himself when they turn their attention to him, despite how pacifistic and hesitant he is.
STRENGTHS
- Optimism. It may not seem like much of a strength, but his positive attitude helps him from backing down from things too quickly.
- Committed. Even if he's absolutely terrible at something, he'll stick with it until the end if he's made some sort of a commitment to it.
- Patience. He can wait for something if he has to, and doesn't voice much complaint if it takes a little longer than expected. Good things take time, as they say.
WEAKNESSES
- Relationships. He's generally unable to discern nice girls from the ones that just want to take advantage of him. He's too nice for his own good, and they tend to use and abuse this freely.
- He doesn't always stand up for himself, even if he's right. When Ashton thinks that drawing attention to himself would cause problems, he does it as little as possible.
- Not exactly the best of fighters. Considering he hates violence, Ashton isn't really good at using it in his own defence. He's alright with his powers, but hurting people makes him hesitate long enough for his opponent to gain the upper hand.
FEARS
- Spiders. They freak him out and he's always terrified that one is going to bite him and it'll be a poisonous one. Oddly enough, he does not share the feeling when it comes to snakes. He owns a pet snake.
- Death of a loved one. After his mother got into the accident, Ashton realised how truly mortal his family was. He's fiercely protective over them, even though there isn't much he can do. He's the only elemental in the immediate family so he uses his powers to defend when he can.
- Inadequacy. He's afraid of not being good enough. It doesn't matter the situation, Ashton doesn't want to feel like he's slipping behind in something.
BEST MEMORY He always loves the memories of Halloween with his little brother Cam. They have a lot of fun planning costumes and the like, even though Ashton is outgrowing it himself.
WORST MEMORY His mother got into a car accident when he was younger and he thought she was going to die. It frightened him a lot and brought about the fear of any of his family members dying for real.
LONG-TERM GOAL Ashton wants to be a florist, even though that doesn't sound like the most masculine of occupations. He's always had a large garden back home and he loves watching the plants flourish under his touch.

HISTORY
Ashton was born to a rather average family--the couple was young and they had both just started on the career paths of their choice. All the same, they proved to be exceptional parents; Analynn's job as a writer meant that she was always home to care for Ashton, and Daddy made time for his son when he could. They didn't have a very large home, but its modest size was just enough to accommodate them. Dustin continued to slowly move up the line in his job, but Analynn's works didn't seem to be catching the attention of publishers. Anyone else might have given their career up for dead, but Ash loved his mother's writing and often asked her to read it aloud to him when he was trying to fall asleep. It was the blind love and encouragement of her little boy that pushed Analynn to continue writing, and when her son was seven she finally managed to push out a book that sold well and even caught the eye of a best-seller list.
The money wasn't anything substantial, but it was more than enough added to their savings that they made two important choices at this point in their life: they were moving, and they were going to have another child. Ashton was worried about the baby, they seemed to be giving Momma's stomach a whole lot of attention and he missed the way his parents used to dote on him. When Cameron was born, Ashton was slightly jealous and only interacted with his baby brother when his parents forced him into it. He was never outright cruel to the younger boy, only a bit cold.
When Cameron was five and Ashton thirteen, there was a car accident. Ashton was staying with a friend and Dustin off at work, so only Cam and Analynn were in jeopardy. His little brother was mostly alright, but their mother stayed unconscious for several days following the car wreck. Ashton had never thought about what would happen if he lost a member of his family before. When he went to the hospital, Cameron was terrified and clung to him like the lost child he was, softening Ashton to just how innocent his brother really was. How could he be bitter toward someone so young? He stayed with the little boy until their father finally made it to the hospital from being stuck in traffic, and in that hospital they stayed on and off for the next week or so. At last, to the sheer relief of her family, Analynn arose from her sickbed. The brief coma was the worst of her injuries and thus she was discharged to go home, but it invoked a fear in Ashton that he might lose her if something happened.
He turned fourteen that fall, but his powers would not surface for a couple months yet. Daddy usually took Cameron out to Halloween whilst Ashton went with his friends, but this year his father was tied up with work and couldn't make it. Seeing how heartbroken the little five year old was about this, Ashton offered to take him instead. He helped his brother with designing a costume and they made it themselves rather than going out to the store, seeing as the family weren't the most well-off of folks. Ash's friends were a little irritated that he neglected to go with them, but Ashton enjoyed this year more than he had all the others. It would go on to become a tradition in the family each year--but first, his powers surfaced.
In November of that year, he was out in the garden and tending to the plants which he and his mother so loved when a thunderstorm started up. Deciding that he would just stay and take out these last few weeds--it wouldn't take too long!--Ashton ignored the rumbling of the thunder and the crack of lightning... which turned to be a bad idea. A bolt of lightning struck the tree in their yard, striking a thick limb which would have literally crushed Ashton under its might if the boy hadn't turned around in time. Not even realising he was doing it, the roots of the very tree that was threatening to crush him shot up and wrapped themselves tightly around the falling limb, holding it in place and stopping it only about a foot before his head. It was here his mother found him shaking and staring wide-eyed at the scene, with absolutely no idea what he'd done nor how he'd done it.
The agents of the Academy came to his door the next day. Dressed and posing as federal agents, they lied their way past the threshold of the home, then informed the family about what was really going on. The last elemental in their father had been Ashton's grandmother--they hadn't expected his powers to manifest considering it had skipped a generation and the woman rarely spoke of it. But it had--clearly, considering the tree in the yard was still a hot mess--and they explained to him that he was an Earth elemental. Dustin was skeptical, but Analynn remembered hearing Granny's crazy stories as a child. She'd always thought she was stark raving mad, but now it seemed to make sense. Her mother had been a Water elemental, but her son was of a more fitting element to his personality. They offered him a position at the Academy in the start of the new year, and Ashton tentatively accepted, not knowing what it would be like.
The Academy turned out to be a fantastic place. He didn't like that he had to attend all year round, but he went to see his family every other weekend and he never missed a holiday--especially not Halloween, because of his tradition with Cameron. His powers flourished under the careful guidance of the Academy staff, and he's now set to begin his junior student year at the Academy.
