GET ANOTHER DROP OF THIS,
at first, nell felt nothing. she only wriggled her nose and said, "the weirdest tasting listerine strips i've ever had." maybe she and gale didn't have the best of friends. the kind of friends who give you one thing, lie to you, and have a good laugh about it. she didn't remember it ever having happened to her before, except the one time her friend gave her vinegar telling her it was vodka before she'd even tried the drink, and she identified that pretty quickly. she would have to face sooner or later that she was living in a world full of people who liked deceiving other people.
it came on with stunning, horrifying clarity. one moment, the world made sense. there were trees and birds and her and gale were walking along, minding their own business as friends often did. the next moment, the sky was blank and she wondered if this was how death felt. she was going to die, wasn't she? nell giggled, the sound a little sharper than it should be. "do you see what i see?" she sing-songed, still giggling, not being able to stop it. everything looked like it was melting, the cars on the street, the cement, she wanted to take her clothes off it was getting way too hot. nell tugged at her friend's shirt. but she didn't say anything, just continued to laugh.
it started to get better when she accepted that this world was her own. everything was normal, move along. she shouldn't be afraid of the big white sky like a blank sheet of paper had been placed over the world, or the melting world around her. because there were awesome colors everywhere, she was painting them with her eyes. as she passed a shop, she looked in the window, but she didn't see how large her pupils were. if she had, that would have just freaked her out again.
but instead, she got a good idea. her and gale didn't have plans in the first place, really, they were just chilling and meeting up with friends who she would have to get back at later when she figured out what they did to her. for now, she tugged on gale's shirt again, her eyes bigger than usual. "i know somewhere awesome we can go," she told him, and she was trying to whisper, but her voice was quite a few decibels louder than appropriate.
she led the way to the art museum, pulling him along and paying the fee before walking in. everything was exploding, fruits in their frames, the busts of ancient women whose names she didn't know. she reached out to touch one painting, but a sharp reprimand from security brought her hand back to her side. instead, she clung to gale as if he could anchor her. "it looks like the cherries are all 3D, yanno?" she said in awe of the painting they stood in front of. the perfect place to go when out of your fucking mind.

Gale was pretty positive this was not how listerine strips where supposed to make you feel. Pretty freaking sure. Weren't they just supposed to whiten your teeth? Not make the sky start flashing different colors. It came on quickly, much quicker than he thought it would. And as he walked with Nell, he didn't realize he was practically grabbing her arm as he was a bit trippy at all the things that where around. He was pretty sure that he saw a clown with vampire fangs - and that shit wasn't going to fly. The other people on the street - their faces were melting. Melting off. That was creepy, but he merely just stared, an almost dumbfounded look on his face.
It was probably from the listerine strip. However, he was with Nell. And they always seemed to do stupid things. They also didn't seem to have very good friends. But hey, you only live once right? YOLO. That was his motto. Well, not really, but lately it seemed that it was. Things where starting to look normal again though, so the melting faces, and the extra heads where just normal. It was pretty obvious now they had been given some kind of hallucinagen, so Gale would just take it in stride. Nothing could be done about it now. "Where are we going?" Gale piped up, but followed Nell.
The museum. Oh yeah, this would be perfect. Gale tried to touch a few things but was quickly reprimanded by security. He didn't realize how long he had spent staring at the security guard - just staring. The man's face was melting off - and it was rather entertaining. Watching his nose just slide off his face - and his eyes goop out like puddles. It wasn't until Nell said something that he turned his attention back to the painting. "Whoa." He said, reaching out like he was grabbing at them. All of a sudden, the cherries starting popping and floating away. "Bubbles!" He said, in almost a squeel, and went backwards a little bit as if he was going after them. He went full out little child mode. He bumped into the wall behind him and turned around and placed his arm on it. "Oh, I'm sorry ma'am." He said, his arm still placed on the wall, and he ran it down a little bit. A copy of the painting "scream" was above him on the wall. "You look lovely tonight." He said in his best, romantic voice. Oh, poor Gale. The listerine strip made him think the wall was a woman.

GET ANOTHER DROP OF THIS,
at this point, nell didn't know whether to be afraid or excited. A very big part of her was freaking out. She felt like she was shaking, but she couldn't be sure because she was having this whole out of body experience where she was watching herself outside of her body. She took deep breaths as if this would help her maintain control, but when she exhaled she erupted into a string of giggles, her eyes looking aorund at all the colors. Had they been there before and she just hadn't noticed them before? It was simply exillerating. She felt like she was back in her body at the museaum, and her senses her hyper accute, picking up everything, every little dust mote and fleck she'd never have paid attention to before.
Clearly the two were seeing different things, but nell chalked it up to how people interpreted art differently. The cherries were rolling, far and away and she wondered what the artist may have wanted to show with that. How fruit is never permanent? They rot and they roll away? Like life. Life isn't permanent, it disappears eventually. ”that's deep,” she murmured knowledgably, like any good art critic would. suddenly, gale wasn't by her side anymore, and she blinked confusedly and turned to see him flirting with the wall. she giggled before hurrying over to his side, almost whacking her head against the wall. "yo, g, leave the nice lady alone!" she didn't know where the lady was, but she had more important business.
she pulled at his arm again, saying in a small voice the way a child might, "i have to tinkle. you gotta be my bodyguard." for some reason, she felt like she should be wary of going to the bathroom alone as she marched to look for it, eventually finding the ladies room and pulling gale in with her. "i'm going to tinkle," she said, positioning him outside the stall before heading in to do her business. it was lucky that she'd done it in time, it wasn't unusual for listerine strips to make people unexpectedly piss their drawers. "tinkle for mama," she said, tapping her toes. after, she left the stall and washed her hands, nothing that a woman had walked in and noticed gale, and thankfully she did not look in the mirror again. "uh..." was the best she could speak at this point.

Everything seemed to make more sense. Like his eyes where showing him the real word, not the world that everything is projected to be. The cherries turning into bubbles and floating away obviously meant something. Like how nothing and nobody stayed the same forever. Everything changed. And you couldn't always stop it. He wondered if maybe real cherries did that. He didn't think that he and Nell where seeing the same things. He then started to think that maybe this museum was magical. Maybe he wasn't imagining things. Listerine strips don't do that. He thought, snorting to himself. As he flirted with the wall - unknowingly invisioning that it was a woman - he hardly noticed as Nell came over. As she pulled at his arm, he whined a little bit. "But Nelly!" His voice came out in almost a squeak. "I really think we have something going..." He mumbled, running his hand down the wall one last time before turning to follow Nell where ever it was that she needed to go.
"Body guard... Harrison at your service, Madame." He said, puffing out his chest and saluting her. It almost took him a minute to remember his own last name. It was obvious his mind was spinning, floating. He had no idea exactly where his brain was, but figured he would find it soon enough. Maybe a bit later, though. He was alright for now without it. It didn't even phase him that he was being drug into the girls bathroom. He stood outside Nell's door - where she had drug him, and folded his arms across his chest, trying to look intimidating. Hey, for once he was taking something seriously.
When a woman walked in, Gale didn't really move. Sure, guy's weren't supposed to be in here, but when you where out of your mind you didn't really care. "Sorry Ma'am." He started, just as Nell walked out of the stall. "This place is off limit." His pupils where probably huge, and the woman looked rather distressed. Her face also appeared to be melting, and Gale spent a moment staring at her. She wasn't attractive, and she was quite a bit older, but he was watching her nose seep down her face. "You might want to grab that..." He said, pointing down at the ground. "You're probably going to want that." He said, nodding briefly at her, before grabbing Nell's wrist and leading her from the bathroom. "Let's do something fun!"

GET ANOTHER DROP OF THIS,
she blinked at gale when he caressed his new wall friend. all she saw on the wall was spots of color, like she shut her eyes quickly and all the light remained behind them. it was horrifyingly surreal, but she was getting used to it, growing accustomed to the new world around her. "i don't think she's that into you, galey," she said, though it did not have as nice a ring to it as 'nelly'. she would stick to calling him 'g', she supposed, the best nickname she'd come up with him thus far. it made him sound like a pimp, but he didn't look like one right now, instead more resembling an amoebae form that decided to grow legs and walk. she swallowed hard, her stomach grumbling. she didn't think she was hungry, she just felt scared.
her ears quirked up when he talked, at first thinking gale was talking to himself before she walked out to see the woman. poor lady was probably confused, but nell didn't have the cognitive faculties right now to come up with reasoning for why a guy was in here until she said, "my brother! he's my brother. i can't pee alone. i get scared." did that sound reasonable? it seemed reasonable to her. were the walls melting? the walls looked like they were melting into vanilla puddles of goo. well, that wasn't good. poor walls. she wondered why they were doing that, if there was any purpose to the whole melting routine. were they sad? she understood being sad enough to want to melt. but that was not the solution, walls. they could do better.
nell giggled when gale was telling the lady what she might need, not knowing what it meant or what he was doing. he was just being gale! cute ol' gale, her buddy dude child thing. she hugged him from behind before letting go. "you're silly," she cooed like a child before gale grabbed onto her and led her away from the poor, confused older lady. "what's fun, what's fun, what's fun?" if she asked the question enough, the words stopped making sense to her. what was fun? what was the meaning behind that word? she did not know. right now she felt the inane desire to find a lava lamp. or to find a rave. "i like fires. bonfires. on the beach. we can go to the beach!" he brain was working wonders for her while she walked with him, her hair messy and her eyes wild. she felt wild all by herself.

Gale didn't mind nicknames. Esspecially not right now. Somebody could have called him douchebag and he would have probably responded. This whole ordeal was rather terrifying, seeing peoples faces melting off, nothing looked right. The world seemed to be changing pace, spinning faster, but the people where slowing down. It was pretty scary, actually. And he felt like his heart was beating faster, like he was going to come out of his chest. He could hear it beating, and that usually wasn't a good thing. The usual rhytmatic beating of his heart was wild and erratic. "Peeing alone can be scary. You shouldn't not ever pee alone, Miss. You should get a pee guard, too." He nodded. "You never know what monsters will come out, I hear Slenderman hides in bathrooms." He said, eyeing the woman for a minute. The way his brain was working right now was ridiculous. He wasn't even sure what he was talking out.
He took a glance over at the sinks, which all seemed to be changing color. His eyes widened as he looked at them. They where like flashing colors, and slowly forming, changing shape it seemed. Some where getting smaller, some bigger, some melting. Only one stayed the same. He thought that must have been the leader of the sinks. Sending his minion to do the dirty work for him. Dasterdly sink. As Nell hugged him from Behind, Gale couldn't help but jump. Tenticals where wrapping around his stomach. His eyes got wide again, before he started pulling Nell away. It was then that he noticed it was her arms that where tenticals. In fact, it seemed she had sprouted a few extra eyes too. He dropped her arm, and began to walk quickly. She probably would just follow him, not realizing that at this moment he was trying to get away from her without alarming her. This was getting more terrifying by the moment. "I don't like fires." He said. That was probably his worst fear. "But I like beaches. How do we get there, Nelly?" He said, stopping and looking back at her again. Her tenticals where gone, but the extra eyes where still there. And blinking rapidly. And they where pretty creepy. He closed his eyes, holding them shut tightly, before opening them again and hoping all these weird things would be gone. They weren't.

GET ANOTHER DROP OF THIS,
nell had grown accustomed to the trip. or as accustomed as one could be when going out of their mind. she was accepting the world around her as a complete fact, and that everything happening was normal. it wasn't a conscious act, but an act of her mind. she just kept nodding vigorously as he explained to the woman that one should never pee alone, that everyone should have someone to protect them when peeing. "but she's not a child!" she whispered to him when he mentioned slenderman, and again her voice was louder than she meant it to be. "we'll be on our way." she said it with the intention of sounding completely natural and composed, but it came out as a battle call. it was hard to keep herself in control of things like that now.
she didn't realize that gale had in fact been walking away from her, trying to escape her tentacle arms, but she would be offended to hear that. it was amazing that she managed to forget in her trip that gale was not fond of fire at all, when he had been freaking out after she smoked out the room in her house. And he'd freaked out when they went on the roof. he had a lot of fears. scaredy kitty. the thought made her giggle, but she remembered he'd asked a question. "oh...uhmm....wherever water is?" it wasn't just her being stupid (that was a very part of her lame ass explanation) it was her having no idea where the beach was thanks to directional impairment. she'd been there many times before, but she always forgot the actual location. "we can find it! it'll be like dora the explorer. i'll be dora, and you'll be boots. vamanos." she hummed the song to herself, skipping along until she was outside of the museum.
it was back into the bright sky which she was now assuming to be the eye of god, and going down the streets. instead of looking for it by herself, she tapped people on the shoulder and asked for directions. they seemed confused, but it was probably her frazzled appearance. eventually, she made it to the lake and took off her shoes rather happily, before wondering if she should strip her clothes to swim. "you can swim, right?" she asked him, again forgetting that this was a water elemental and a friend she knew a lot about. she took off her socks too. there weren't too many people on the beach, this being may, and her underwear was like a bikini, anyway. she forgot about her scars for a moment and took off her shirt and pants, running into the water with a battle cry. it looked like clouds to her, though, so she picked up it up and watched as the smoke drifted through her fingers. "cool clouds," she said softly, standing in waist deep. everything was awesome again, and the cool air felt good against her heated skin.

Gale thought that all of his fears where totally rational. I mean, after all, they just made sense. His father was killed in a fire. Now just the smell of fire smoke could make him squirm. Even while tripping, he knew his limits. It wasn't hard to guess. They would probably be worse now, even. Because the fire would turn into monsters or something. "Water is everywhere!" He exclaimed, throwing his hands into the air. It was true, though. Even the air held moisture in it. He liked water. Of course, he was a water elemental so that was kind of a given, wasn't it. "Come on, vamanos! Everybody let's go!" He said, as he started skipping along side Nell. "Swiper no swiping! Swiper no swiping!" He said, dramatically stopping and putting his arm out as he said that, just as they got outside the museum. A woman with two children where right in front of him as he did that, so he merely nodded at them, before continuing on. He wasn't exactly normal.
It took them a bit longer to get the lake beach thing than it probably would have if they where sober. But they didn't have a magical map like Dora, so they used people instead. They all looked confused, if not scared, though. Gale didn't think he was scary. But at the same time he didn't see how large his pupils where at the time. He would be scared too if he saw it, he imagined. Once they made it to the lake beach thing, he also took his shoes off, a goofy grin pretty much plastered on his face. "Of course I can swim, silly goose!" He said, snorting. He spent ninety percent of his life in the water. As Nell undressed, he decided to do the same, stripping down to nothing but her boxers. Had he been sober, he probably would have questioned her scars. But also, had they been sober, they probably wouldn't be getting half naked. He walked out into the water a little ways, before putting his hands into the air in the shape of a 'V' and taking a deep breath. The deep breath made him feel a little dizzy, and he lost his balence, but caught himself. He turned around and slowly let himself fall onto his back, landing flat on the water. He proceeded to gently start back stroking and humming to himself. "I'm finding it hard to believeeeee we're in heavennnn." He started to sing obnoxiously.
