The day at the academy had run a bit shorter then usual for the sophomore, two of his classes had been canceled and he hadn't even been able to get to the music room early to practice. He'd slept right through his alarm and by the time he'd gotten there the room was crawling with high school students waiting on him to show up. Thankfully he'd had the foresight to look through the cracked door before just barging in, so he avoided the situation all together. But never the less Pyson now sat in the front seat of his car with absolutely nothing to do, and he hated being bored. Sure he could go back to his house and practice on the white baby grand in the sitting room, but he wasn't too fond of that piano, and the acoustics in his house were awful. The tones always came out so distorted. So that idea was trashed. He could go into maple hollow and go to the mall, or the record store, or chill in the little coffee shop, but none of that was really any fun alone.
He heaved a heavy sigh and leaned forward, letting his forehead fall on the steering wheel of his car with a dull thud. He'd only been out of the school for about fifteen minutes and already he was going bonkers. It really didn't suit the blond well at all when his schedule was interrupted, it threw his whole day out of whack every time. He put the key into the ignition and started the car, no point in just sitting in the parking lot. If he was going to be bored he could at least do it at home where he'd be comfortable. Maybe watch a movie or something like that, even though that wasn't really something he'd normally do. But then again, today hadn't gone to plan anyway, why not do something out of the norm?
It seemed to take less time for him to get from the school to his neighborhood then it usually would have. Probably just his imagination. He made the left turn on to his road, taking little notice of the mansions that lined the streets around him. When he'd first moved to this neighborhood he'd been positively baffled by the sheer scale of some of these houses, especially Josh's, but now it was just normal to him. He was one of them now. Josh! It hit him like a ton of bricks that he hadn't gone to see his best friend sense he'd gotten home. He pulled into his drive way and got out of the car, locking the doors behind him with the push of a button followed by the small churp of the alarm. "I think I'll walk" He told himself absentmindedly as he unlocked the door to his house, threw his shoulder bag inside the door, then locked it back. A walk would do him good anyway.
The walk did do him good, the fresh air was sweet and cool, and it wasn't raining for once, but it hadn't been quite as long of a walk as he might have liked. It took almost no time at all to walk the few streets down to get to Josh's house. His place seemed to tower over the rest, and not just on this street, Josh's house could be seen from it's hilltop perch from the front gaits of the community. Pyson wasn't impressed by it anymore though, yes it was a nice house, but it was just the place his best friend lived now. He smiled as he looked up at the massive structure, his mind flashed to the countless fun times Josh, Nell, and him had had in that house when they were in high school. His smile faded as he thought of Nell. Part of him wished all that mess had never happened and that they hadn't grown apart. She was the only girl he didn't act like a stumbling idiot around. With a small shake of his head he lifted his hand, his outstretched index finger touched the button for the doorbell gently then he took a step back. Now to wait and see if Josh was around.

If Nell had to explain herself to people more often, it would be a problem. There was no way to explain anything she did, because she did not have a reason for most of her antics. If it appealed to her, then she would do it, and that was the end of that. Oftentimes it didn't make sense, but what needed to make sense? She would love to live in a world where nothing made any sense at all. Wasn't that Alice's wish? Maybe she shouldn't think about those things else she'd end up with a freakish cat and Johnny Depp.
Today was one of those days when what she was doing actually made sense to her. It was a brilliant idea, and not one of the ideas that could fall through thanks to lack of planning. No, this was pure genius. At least she thought so as she stood in the kitchen dressed in a tanktop and softee shorts, tying sponges around her foot with string like they were shoes. The house staff usually cleaned, but she never liked to sit back and let other people do things for her, especially when she had free time. With work tonight, she had immediately come home after stopping at the home. Filled with too much energy to just sit down and do nothing, she had noticed some dust. In places. And therefore, she needed to clean.
She was very good at that, cleaning. It was like an instinct, and it was probably the only reason she had survived her studio apartment. It had been in pretty bad shape when she'd gotten it, but she kept it spiffy enough through sheer effort. Nell wasn't going to deny that it was great when she had finally gotten a new apartment, and now she had a mansion. It was kind of trippy when she thought about it, how different her life was now than it had always been. She had Josh to thank for that.
Next was to tie sponges around her arms, for those cases that were a little higher up. And this was totally going to work. The thought carried her as she stepped into the bucket of sudsy water before stepping back out. Now to see how well it worked... She skidded across the floor, but there was a lot more traction than she'd expected, and she gripped the counter of the island for balance once she wobbled over to it. An auspicious beginning, but that was all right. She scratched the back of her head, hair thrown up in a messy bun.
She made it to one of the sitting rooms when she heard the doorbell, and did not even consider removing the sponges from her body before heading to the door. She slid over to it, and bit her lip when she noticed who was standing there. Pyson. Oh. How long had it been? A while, and it was astounding how people kept popping back into her life like this. She continued on, though, unlocking the door and opening it, greeting the Wind elemental with a smile. "Hey, Py," she said, the nickname coming from her so naturally. "Uhm, here for Josh, I guess?" Even asking that was like a punch to the gut. He wouldn't be here for her, of course not.
She then remembered her appearance, and looked down at the sponges on her feet, her knees, her elbows. A little chuckle. "Cleaning," she explained as best she could, because once again, this was not her world of explaining. This was her world of doing things on impulse. "Uh...come in." She scooted to the side, feeling more nervous than she should. It was astounding for someone as calm as she usually came to be.

Clouds slowly began to roll in over the pristine neighborhood, casting a darkish shadow over everything and making the glittery world of money and things seem somehow dull and unappealing. Normally Py liked the long shadows that heavy clouds caused, but he didn't like them so much here. He glanced around then back at the door bell. It seemed like no one was home, but even when Josh wasn't there and he would come over one of the house staff would answer at least. Seemed like the whole house was empty today. He heaved a small sigh and his head drooped slightly. He'd really wanted to catch up with Josh today, it had been weeks sense the two had hung out and Py felt like he was going through friend withdraws or something silly like that. He chuckled at himself quietly, never before had he been so enamored by a friendship. Then he thought for a second. No, that's a lie. There was one other person he'd been close with, maybe even closer then he was with Josh. That was Nell. His heart sank as he thought of the earth grad. He missed her even if he was still mad at her for not telling him about all the shit that went down with her.
His mind began to wander off down memory lane, thinking about all the time those two had spent goofing off together. She'd get him to do things the wind elemental had never dreamed of, or never had the guts to do on his own, even though none of what they did was serious by any meaning of the word. She taught him to be silly and spontaneous, and open to new things. The light sound of footsteps coming from behind the door cut Pyson's little mental trip short. He looked bad up to the door, an easy smile settled across his lips and his expression was simply relaxed. He pretty much felt at home here. That is until he saw who opened the door. Nell. His stomach cut a flip and his heart skipped a beat. He hadn't expected to see her here, though when he thought about it that had been rather stupid of him, she did live here after all. His smile faded and a look of something like hurt and confusion crossed his face. He took a step back.
It was then that he noticed the rather strange get up she was wearing. Tank top, shorts, and .. cleaning sponges?? It took every thing he had not to burst out laughing. He completely forgot the reservations he had toward Nell for that few minutes. This was so typical of her, but it was still hilarious that she would go to all this trouble just to clean. Though he didn't split into hysterical laughing, a grin crept across his face that he tried his very best to contain. He didn't want her to see him smile. Clearing his throat to gain his composure when she spoke up him, he returned his expression to the stony one he'd had when she opened the door. Ah..y-yeah." He stumbled over his answer like some dumb struck kid, he scolded himself mentally.
He eyed her slowly again, still trying to wrap his brain around the crazy get up she was wearing. This time he found it a little easier to control his need to laugh at her antics. When she laughed at herself and gave her short (very short) explanation, Pyson could only shake his head. He stepped slowly over the threshold of the house, giving Nell a wide birth as to not get too close to her. He was being so childish.. As he looked down the halls he could see the little tracks where she'd been scooting along. The house staff was mopping the floor with the soapy water she'd left behind. He shook his head again and looked back to Nell, it was strange feeling so awkward around her.

The expression on Pyson's face made Nell regret opening the door, made her regret not leaving it to someone else. She swallowed hard, but then he smiled, and it seemed right again. It felt like he was stopping by and if it were in the “beforetimes” she would have shoved a bucket into his hands and ordered him to join her in sponge skating. As a matter of fact, she really wanted to do that right now, to grab his arm and talk and laugh and it would be normal again. Lately, normalcy had been a state of mind she once thought possible. It was after she had moved in with Josh, into this mansion, and her relationship with her father was all right, and her world was stable. She let herself believe in things like comfort and safety. But now, her dreams felt like childish ideals that would never happen in real life. It never had happened before. Well, before running away. She wasn't going to even try to fit all these pieces together. It was too much of a task.
She stood in front of him, her hands in front of her, fingers touching like she was about to deliver a speech. But words would not be so eloquent today, because there was a sort of frog in her throat. He knows, and I want him back, but it will never be okay. She knew she had betrayed him, she had betrayed everyone, and even though she thought she'd moved past it, his appearance had ripped the scab off the wound. ”It's great to see you. Been a while,” she said, even if it might have been potentially awkward to speak honestly. She wasn't going to not say anything while he was there, ignore him as if he were part of the mansion's furniture. Nell cared about him more than that.
Instead, she led him into the kitchen, her favorite place, walking like a disabled penguin. She didn't bother taking them off, either. It wasn't uncomfortable, and she still had cleaning to do. Never would it satisfy her to be a trophy wife, thoguh she had to wonder if that was one of Josh's ideals. She had to constantly feed herself into others' image of her—it was the only way to keep them happy. ”Josh isn't here, but he'll be back soon. If you know, you wanna wait. Not gonna kick you out like a bouncer at a high-class club. Because you're far too fly for that.” Even while she debated in her head, her humor never disappeared. Would he want to wait around her? A murderer who lied to him? She was excellent company, but she only thought that way when she knew the person she was around didn't like her. It made it easier to accept that they despised every inch of her, she used her own defense mechanism to depreciate herself. And she had convinced herself that Pyson hated her.
Sitting at the island, she placed her arms on the counter and asked, ”I could make you something to eat. Have you eaten yet? I was just about to get a snack for myself anyway.” She didn't count the amount of snacks she had in a day, just let it stand that there was a lot of them and they happened often. She kept her eyes fixated on his, never showing how much her stomach was aching and how much she felt like she needed to run to the bathroom.
