Nell sat at the table, finishing a few doodles for her notes. In actuality, the doodles were there to help her remember things. As were the diagrams on her arms outlining the muscles there. A strand of her hair fell over her eyes as she scratched her pen against the paper and she brushed it back behind her ear. The movement helped her realize that she'd been poking out her tongue in concentration, and she slipped it back in, hoping no one noticed. She looked down at her page of notes, glad that she was still able to get her work done. Nell just needed to space things out properly. Nowadays she barely had any free time, and even that was the least of her concerns. She could deal with business. She didn't know how to deal with all the problems her family invited into her life.
As if on cue, she felt her phone vibrate and pulled it out of her pocket. Rafael. A frown tugged at her lips as she unlocked it. "Where did you put the Cocoa Puffs?" She resisted the urge to roll her eyes since he wasn't there to witness it. Hurriedly she texted back, "In the cabinet where they always are." She knew he was just looking for an excuse to bug her, like he wanted to mold himself permanently into her life. And she could do nothing about it, just accept it as fact, like the drawings of muscles on her arms, the words telling her which muscles were where. She didn't want this, but she never opened her mouth to complain. For one, she absolutely did not complain. And for another, she was the one fucking everything up. If she thought about it, she was sacrificing her father to protect her fiancé.
She had to steer her mind away from all that. There was a time when she was great at avoiding the issues in her life, and she wanted to bring that back now. Don't except it, change it, she told herself. For the sake of strength, she kept remembering that the only power someone has over you is the power you give them. But what else could she do? Nell slipped the phone under her notebook, waiting for the text back as she read over the bio notes. However, she tilted her head up when she felt a familiar presence around. "Hola Enzair," she greeted the Fire, both her voice and smile pleasant. "How are you this lovely day?" At least she was good at hiding things. Unflappable, made of iron.

Enzair looked up when he heard his name called, in fact he more so woke up, he had almost fell asleep. Biology bored him, hell he could paralyze a man in just a single damn hit, he knew all the biology he needed those lovely pressure points and nerve clusters. Enzair looked around rather quickly thinking the professor had called him. But then he realized it was not the professor but a fellow student. He looked over to the ‘earth worm’ as he often called them with just his eyes at first then turned his head over to look at her.
“Why is it always you earth worms talk to even your enemies in such a happy gogo tone? Are you mentally 10?” Enzair commented, not realizing he was loud enough for most the class to hear if they weren’t too busy paying attention to the professor.
“A lovely day for me is the smell of gunpowder after a nice explosion,” commented Enzair quietly.
Enzair peaked over to a wind elementals paper and seen all the notes she had took, and looked a his and realized he had gotten nothing done.
“Shit,” Cursed Enzair under his breath. But it was too late to write down them now, he would have to copy from someone else if he were to even know what to do in the test or whatever, Enzair was definitely not paying attention today.
Shaking his head briefly he returned his attention to Nell who by no doubt, expected a comment back.

Nell guessed she should have expected the lukewarm response. Not only because it was a Fire elemental she had addressed, but because of which one it was. Still, it was almost comical the immediately bad reaction she got from him. If she were any less polite and calm, her first thought would be that he was on the rag. But no such thing crossed her mind as she lifted her eyebrows. Nell could hardly be bothered about a thing like irritability. She accepted it in stride, it was easy to smile and nod when faced with it. Even when it was from a Fire who was stronger than her. Sure, they were in the same grade, but his element had the upper hand over hers and she abstained from physical violence. Nell barely defended herself most of the time, so she carried around a target quite a bit.
As it were, she tilted her head, resting her chin on her fisted hand. A few people had looked over and snorted, probably wondering if a fight would come of this. Then they remembered that she was an Earth student. So it wouldn't be a fight, simply a curb stomp. "Because we love you oh so much," she said, shaking her head a little bit. She and her allies were friendly people, they were nice. Nell acknowledge it, accepted it. Loved it. Her allies were her family and they certainly were not Earth worms. She'd heard it all though in her two years at the Academy--Earth worm, hippies, pussies. She tried to think of the most creative one she'd ever gotten, but tended to forget those kinds of things. Of course, if they were insults against her. She did get bothered when they were insults against someone else. "And if I were mentally ten, don't think I'd be here right now." It was a college course, after all, and it'd be rather strange if she was mentally stunted.
Then he made a rather strange comment, and she knitted her eyebrows together. "That's...not really a day," she said, looking back down at his notes. Boy, was he a pleasant person. She could agree. She rather liked explosions herself, mixing together chemicals. Often she had to stay behind to clean up the chem lab after her little experiments. Nell was sure her father would be proud. She looked over at him again when he cursed, wondering what it was. Gazing at his paper, she wondered if the notes were at fault. She figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. "Wanna borrow mine?" she asked, holding up the notebook a little. Sometimes she was a little too nice for her own good. "You don't have to do all the drawings, it's basically just a study guide." Like Cornell notes, but her own version of them.

Enzair looked over to the earth elemental and lifted an eye brow, waved his hand and set her notes ablaze, then said, “I would rather accept a failed grade than take the notes of a pathetic excuse for an elemental, you’re all the same; you little worms don’t know when to keep to your own, what good is your kind anyway? you can’t even stand up against a fight, you run away like little babies you are.”
Enzair shook his head like this earth worm was not even worth talking to, and talking about fighting it reminded him of the war, “Not to mention, you stole a good old friend from us, I bet your just a little whore who likes to get into the pants of a traitorous little bug,” he said with a mean tone.
Enzair returned his attention to his paper and pulled out his pen and began writing down what he could for notes. Enzair could hear some faint laughing from some of the students a few rows behind him. A few moments later a notebook flopped right on his desk.
Rising his hands a little from his desk he looked up to see who it was who just flopped a notebook on his desk and he seen it was a thunder who point at him like ‘right on’ and then continued to exit the class, he didn’t know that thunder but hey its better than the notes of an earth worm is enzairs thought. He turned the notebook to today’s notes and began copying them down into his own.

Nell looked at the notebook with blankly before holding her hand over it and dropping sand onto the page. The professor looked up, having noticed the small blaze along with several of the students, and questioned, "What's going on over there?" She smiled disarmingly and replied, "Nothing, it's fine." Nell then turned to Enzair, expression still flat. It was in the genes, this look of hers. "Maybe because we're smart and know when to back down from a fight. We don't let our emotions cloud our judgment." She didn't want a fight now, but felt the need to stick up for her element. Babies? She should think not.
She flipped the pages, thinking of how she'd have to get the notes from someone else thanks to Enzair. Part of them, at least. And she simply proved the differences between Fires and Earths--her temper was purely nonexistent. Her eyes found his again when he spoke, and she once again wore a charming little smile. "You've got me pinned," she said in a congratulatory tone of voice. Whore, she didn't like that word. It was one she was all too familiar with. "And I didn't steal anything. Josh has a mind of his own, he made his choice." She didn't steal him away, he just showed up in the dorms after the war started and freaked her out. She'd even been doubtful of him at first.
Her phone vibrated from under the notebook and she read her brother's words with only slight irritation. Rafael was someone who could actually piss her off. "Can't find it. Come over or I'm calling Papa." She blinked, took a deep breath. Why did he know exactly which places to hit, what to do to bother her? She slipped the phone back under her notebook when she noticed the student come over. "Better now?" she questioned when she saw the notebook. A poor notebook had to be sacrificed in the process. She pulled out the phone and started texting again. "Just try to find it. Don't bother Papa." It probably wouldn't work, but she just wanted Rafael off her back. She was in school, after all, she wasn't even supposed to be texting.

“But the thing is, your all little babies, you all run from a fight, if this war keeps up like this you little maggots will be surrendering no time, it’s only a surprise it’s been going on as long as it has.” Said Enzair as he finished up copying the notes.
Enzair did not exactly like the war, it made people blind, Enzair could not care less for water and earth, but this war was pointless, their always started by one person’s actions or even just their words and nothing ever comes good out of a war. He lost one of his friends to this earth worm. The next thing he knows another one of his friends could be killed by one of the earth worms, or Water guppies as he called them, just another word for saying babies but a guppy is a baby fish, suitable for water elementals.
Enzair looked up at the clock and silently grunted, time seemed to go slow when school was going, but when there is no school it seems like the day only lasts a couple hours. It was annoying, he only wished his off days were as long as this and his schools days as short as his off days. But he knew they were the same, it just seemed so much damned longer when in school. When school is out he planned to go to the fire common room and just relax, and forget about this little worm.
Noticing her cell he then said loud enough for the professor to hear, “I thought phones were banned… Nell!”
Some of the other students looked towards the two, some of them annoyed by the talking. It caught the professor’s attention as intended.

Nell looked back over at the Fire graduate, no fear or emotion on her face. This was the Fuentes stare, something she had inherited from her father. "Babies is a cute little name for us, but you see, just because we don't fight in this war doesn't make us any lesser." He really should not have been trying to insult her element. Nell had maternal instincts, mama bear drive. "And we can stand our ground. Maybe you've been messing with the wrong Earths." They may have been pacifists, but some of them could hold their own. They might not have fought, but they could defend themselves. She wasn't one of them, but she was learning. In a way, she'd been growing. She was tired of being picked on all the time. She'd had enough of it her entire life.
It would have been funny to think that Nell was actually a murderer if she was at terms with the fact. All of them were babies? If he knew half of it, Enzair would not be opening his mouth. But she would never tell him that. Any reveal of the trial had not been on her own accord, only the words she spoke in that courtroom that she hoped would stay in the courtroom. She hated that Josh had to hear those things, even worse that people she didn't know or trust had to hear them. The whole world knew about something she wanted to keep personal. And that had devastated her. She was still reeling from the effects of that trial, but now she was stronger, more resilient. She had built her walls back up and this Fire graduate would not be able to get through.
Though it was aggravating when he called her out. She looked up from her desk, but instead of glaring at Enzair, she met her professor's eyes. "Ms. Shepherd, give me the phone," he said flatly, tapping his desk. She stood, bringing her notebook with her, and placed both on the desk. "Can I have a new notebook?" she asked. "Enzair burned it." The evidence was clear on it, and she didn't smile deviously to give herself away, expression neutral. The professor narrowed his eyes at the Fire student. "You are not to be burning books in my class, Enzair. Are you fond of detention or have you forgotten that this is an educational environment, not a training area?" She turned to him, eyes still flat. Wanna keep talking about the Earths, vato. She hoped she could get her phone back after class, she'd be needing it today.

“Oh… you know how us fire’s get when were agitated… it was a completely unintentional accident, that’s all, and with the little war between us fire’s and… earths... it doesn’t help to lighten the tension, you know… I’ll try and not let it get to me…” Said enzair with bitter sarcasm and half truth, saying earth as though it were a bad taste.
Enzair had been to the detention so many times he might as well call it home and make his bed in a corner. It was quite some luck he has not been suspended yet, perhaps its because of how fires are, always hotheaded, anger issues, short temper. Probably because of that is why they’re still here, but everyone has their limits, and enzair sometimes pushed those limits and often rode on the edge of breaking the academy law well all except for anything that has to do with earths and waters.
‘Snitch’ He thought shortly after with bitter hatred, sure he told on Nell but he done so indirectly by calling her out, not by directly telling the professor. Enzair was usually not one to admit things he did if they would get him in trouble even if he got caught he would not admit anything he would just use a half truth comment, all because of his pride.
Enzair glared at Nell for a few moments before turning his attention to the clock. To enzair it felt like he was in class forever already, like time has just stopped but everything else kept moving. The thunder had come back in the class and set a small file of work on the professor’s desk before heading back to his seat, sweeping up his notebook in the process figuring Enzair was done with it considering Enzair’s notebook was in his bag.
Enzair returned his attention back to Nell with a hatred and danger in his eyes, a look that said ‘Watch you back’ or ‘I’m watching you’. However he was not in a pleasant mood right now, not that he was in the first place but it fell a notch once Nell snitched on him.
Enzair may not like earths or waters, but Nell was Female, and Enzair, regardless of his short temper, had morals, he one of them was against striking a woman unprovoked. He then pulled out his notebook turned to an empty page in the back and began drawing to hopefully pass time, it also helped to look like he was working on something.

Nell actually rolled her eyes then, shaking her head. "Cute," she drawled out, not very amused by him. If she were someone else, this could have quickly turned into a fight. Most people didn't mess around. Hell, she shouldn't even had. She was from the Bronx, she should have been taking this to the streets. But she was also Nell Shepherd who abstained from any sort of violence whenever she could. There was a reason her gift turned out to be Earth. It hadn't just been genes, it was the fact that even when she was a stubborn, confident, overzealous child she was also so many undiscovered things deep down. She might have even turned out to be a Fire once upon a time. That thought entertained her.
Enzair didn't give a reply to the professor, but he'd already taken out a slip of paper. "I'm going to have to give you a detention to, Ms. Shepherd," he said when he got to the other piece of paper, and she almost groaned, but she didn't mention that she had volunteer work after school and a crammed schedule. She took everything in. Nell supposed she'd have to tell Leana that she would be taking off for that day. "And I apologize, but I don't have a notebook for you. Just...make due." She nodded as she took the paper. "Mr. Phoenix, come and get your slip," the professor said when she went to sit back down. Then she heard him muttering, "Interrupting my class, who do they think they are? This isn't grade school..." She smiled wanly to herself as she slipped the paper into her notebook. Why couldn't have Enzair burned that?
When she noticed Enzair looking at her, she pushed her finger against the side of her nose. She really couldn't care how angry he was, you didn't mess with her element. It was quid pro quo, in her eyes. You talked about her element, she talked about your stupidity in burning a notebook in the middle of class. She was glad when he took out his notebook and started doing...something, she didn't really pay attention. She was more focused on the professor as he resumed his lesson. The bell eventually rang, and Nell turned back to Enzair to give him a pleasant, "I suppose this is where we part, dear sir." Sometimes she couldn't help the sarcasm, even though she tried really hard. She didn't like to be a bitch, it wasn't her style. It was the exact opposite of her style, as a matter of fact.
