Nell lay out on her back behind one of the jacaranda trees in the garden, off the pathway. The garden always brought her peace, especially in a time when she felt frayed and strained. She usually dealt with stress well, and to all those around her, she was dealing very well. Inside, it was a different story. Inside, she felt like the scared little girl she used to be when she curled up in bed and slept the pain of her injuries away. Nell believed that nothing could break her, though, she needed that thought. The trial hadn't broken her. It had tried, but she had pulled through with Josh's help. Her mother couldn't break her. She paused at that. Was that true? Always, she had to wonder if there was something horribly wrong with her and she didn't realize it. Her depression had brought many things to light, and this was one of them. She could never be sure abut her own mental state, and that was concerning. Is this how Mia felt? She didn't want to think about it.
Nell pulled herself up. She wanted certainty to return to her, but Rafael's presence in her life had helped steal that away. The black spots in her history terrified her. She could remember lights on the floor, but where were they from, what did they mean? The smell of turpentine, that was the smell of art in her mind, but she didn't live with artists. What else was she missing, what else was expunged from her memory? Did she do it herself? Did something happen that was so terrible that she didn't even consciously repress it and so her mind had to take matters into its own hands? Nell couldn't imagine anything worse happening to her that she didn't already remember. She didn't want to think like that. But what if something triggered it later on?
There was too many questions for Nell's tastes. She sat in her circle of tulips, smiled. She loved tulips, remembered seeing them in Spain near the La Mancha windmills. Fields of them. She tried to include them as much as possible in her garden maze, but first she had to buffer it with other plants, make it grow larger. It was always changing, so one day there may have been dozens of poppies, and the next hyacinths may replace them, a wall of them. Deciding that she might as well head back into the castle, Nell collected her tulips in her hands and went inside, wishing she could stay out forever. That would be very nice. Unfortunately, such was not possible, and she had classes later in the day. In spite of being in the school for almost two years, Nell was met with a usual dilemma she found herself in. Her directional issues. It didn't take long before she lost her way and found herself in territory she shouldn't be in, near the dungeons where the Fires and Thunders lurked. Well crap.

Chase had been chilling out in the dungeons with a couple of pals, when he decided to go back to his room. He bid them farewell and took off. After all not like the guy had much to do down here anyways, besides threw fireballs and talk shit about mud puppies. The blonde eighteen year old walked through the halls of the dungeons with his hands in his pockets, humming a tune to himself. As he rounded a corner he saw someone standing with flowers in their hands, a girl. Chase quirked a brow at this, flower collecting wasn't something that fire or thunder students did. Then everything was shed to the light as he came closer to the girl. It was the Earth bitch Nell.
"Well well, what do we have here? If it isn't the little mud puppy that killed her mother," he said with a smile. He wasted no time in getting on her case about the event that took place a few years back. Sure he didn't know the details, but who gave damn. She killed her mom, messing with her about it was good enough to drive her over the edge. He walked closer to her and glanced at the tulips in her hands, "Pretty flowers. They for your traitor of a boyfriend Josh." He removed his right hand from his pocket and flicked a finger at the flowers, sending a stream of flames at them.
He sneered at her as he put his hands back into his pocket, "You know, I never liked you all that much. I should just turn you into barbecue right now." His eyes scanned her as he stood there, "And then you the audacity to even come near this place, who the fuck do you think you are bitch?" His hands left his pockets again, both this time. Chased flashed them out to his sides, flames springing to life in both palms as he gave her a menacing look. "You look a little miserable, how about I put you out of it?" He threw a fireball in her direction, but it was just a bit off so that it only singed hair, "Damn I missed, don't worry I'll make sure the next one hits," he said as the ball of fire spun around his hand.

She was hoping that she wouldn't have company, since it was only the bad kind of company she'd get down here. Stupid directional sense, she thought. Nell was always afraid to wander far in the mansion, knowing it was too easy to get lost there. She mainly stuck to the garden, or just spent as much time as she could away from the place. She shouldn't wander, but she was always called to other places. Like the dungeons, clearly. And it was dangerous because she bristled at the voice, her eyes falling on the familiar blue-eyed blond. Great. What I need. The Fire leader in the time of war, not good. "Mud puppy, really? THe best you have in your arsenal?" she asked, tilting her head like a curious puppy, just bolstering his comment. Don't start with me, vato. She didn't have a temper, but she certainly didn't like Chase. Worse than insulting her, though, would be insulting Josh. And ding, she had a winner. "Fiancé, actually," she told him. I dare you to say anything more about him. "Still sad about that? It's been a year, probably time you got over it." She shouldn't have been egging him on, but her defense mechanism was sarcasm.
Nell backed away, one step, when he threatened to barbecue her. "Strange, I thought we were getting along swimmingly, Chase," she said calmly. She didn't want to admit that she was lost and that was the reason she was in this area. "Bigger balls than you, I guess." Stop, stop, stop. But the mention of her mother and Josh in one go was enough for her to show that he couldn't run his mouth and she wouldn't say anything about it. Maybe the fact that he was Fire leader got to his head. She watched as the flames formed in his hands now they were out of his pockets. She was nothing compared to them, she knew that. Even if she was a college student. Nell stepped back again when the Fire ball came her way, and clapped a hand to her head to stop any fire before it did worse damage to her hair, dropping the flowers. "Really, you wanna try again?" She used her influence to allow brambles grow around his feet, threatening t grow higher. "Another fire ball and I cut you up, do you want to risk that, ese?" She was lying through her teeth, she wouldn't do it, but he didn't know that. The threat was apparent in the thorns and burrs surrounding him. She talked tough so she didn't have to follow through with it.

"Ahh I got plenty names for you bitch, I'm just being nice today," he said shooting her a sarcastic smile. Fiancé. The word rang in his ears, so he was going to marry the cunt. Chase doubled over laughing at her words, "Okay, so you two are getting hitched?" The Fire student chuckled again, "Wow, who would've thought it. I'd congratulate you, but I don't think it's gonna last either way. I mean c'mon the dicks obviously not a very loyal guy and you...well you're just a little cunt that shouldn't be a wife, or a mother." Well she was asking for it, actually defending herself. What was she thinking? She must've known that guy didn't like mouthy people. Especially the little dirt bags.
He noticed she'd took a step back after his threat, well she was smart in that sense. Maybe he was underestimating her intelligence, then she started running her mouth again. "You know what, I was just thinking that maybe, just maybe, you weren't as stupid as you looked, but I take it back. You have got to be the dumbest bitch around." He threw the fireball that just narrowly missed her and watched she put out the fire in her hair. A chuckle rumbled from his chest, That's right, burn you little dirt bag, burn he thought to himself.
Then she did something even more stupid than before. Surrounded his feet with burrs and thorns. The man just looked down at them then returned his attention to her. The look on his face was one of disbelief, "You're kidding, right?" he said as he shot a stream of fire down at the vegetation crowding his feet with his free hand. As the form of defence she came up with burned away he smiled. "You. Cut me up. Ha, you sure know how to give a good joke." And with that he tossed the fireball that he was still holding onto at her with deadly accuracy. If she didn't move in time, well lets just say that the son of bitch named Joshua wouldn't be kissing a pretty face on his wedding day.

Nell felt tempted to roll her eyes. She was a statue, made of iron. No amount of insults against her could break through. She gave credit to Chase for trying, though. Her eyes narrowed at him. He apparently thought himself to be very funny, but doubting Josh's loyalty wasn't something that pleased Nell. She knew what he was like, though, and it held no ground. "Thanks for your opinion. I'll be sure to withhold the wedding invitation." She was confident in her relationship with Josh, he had proposed, after all. It taught her that she should have never doubted him. But that was dark time for her, one she didn't like to think of. "Someone should have told your mother that before you were born." Nell could get low, but if he was willing to insult Josh, she could insult him back. And it wasn't really an insult against his mother, anyway.
Again with the insults. They were cute, really, but it was water down her back. The truth was, she didn't want to turn her back on him. If she tried to run, he could attack her from behind. She raised her eyebrow at him. The tough facade was pretty easy considering she wasn't actually afraid of him. "Try me," she said flatly. Okay, considering her size and stature, she wasn't too much of a threat. But she was a nimble and clever. Those things could be dangerous when put to good use. And then he burned the brambles away. Well crap. With the next fire ball, she only had a split second to react, and so her wall of brambles was burned easily enough. She had her arms in front of her face, which were burnt along with some of her cheek. "All right, I give, just leave me alone." It was her last ditch effort. If he didn't just give up, she'd have to run, and that probably meant a trip to the medical wing. She would not fight back. She never did.

He raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "Like I'd wanna go to that shit show." He was being a really big douche. He always was to the Earth kiddies, but with her it was different. She was the one that ruined everything, she was the one that caused all this fucking unbalance and mayhem in the first place. She fucks everything up, and usually walked away without a scratch. Not this time though, this tim he was going to fuck. Her. Up.
She was still running her mouth, in this situation she was still running her mouth. He found it hard to believe, even though he was seeing it with his own two eyes. You would've thought that for someone who was at disadvantage like she was would keep her damned mouth shut, he had to give her credit for balls though. When he threw his last fireball, it had hit its mark. Well not exactly, she managed to block most of it with her hands. He still got her cheek though. Now she was asking him to leave her alone. He burst out laughing again, You're a real clown you know that? Damn I didn't know you dirt sacs were so funny."
He ran a hand threw his hair and walked over to her, slowly and menacingly. "Let you go? This is a moment that I know a lot of Fires would love to have and you expect to just let you go? Get real." His left foot rose of the ground, bent at the knee as he went for a shot at her stomach. Should this hit, he'd ram her head into the wall beside. If not and she some how managed to block or dodge in time, well he'd just try and burn her again.

Nell shrugged at his words. His opinion was worth nothing to her. Maybe it should. He was the Fire leader, one of the head honchos around. Even if he was younger than her, a high school student, he held more power than she had against a Fire. He laughed at her, and all she could pay attention to now was the sting in her cheek, her arms. "Yeah, and you're a great example of your kind." She was now sticking up for her element, her family. You just didn't mess with other people when Nell was around. "Nothing but hot air, really." And there she went again. Back her into a corner, and she barked as good as any dog.
She watched him warily as he drew in like a predator to his prey. "Glad to know you guys want my head," she said with a roll of her eyes. Nell saw him raise his foot and darted away, thinking on her feet, dodge and evasion tactics at work in her brain. She was no match for his fire, if she turned her back she was done...so what could she do? She was clever, she thought on her feet. At least with her college level courses, she wasn't getting tired as soon or as easily. Maybe she should fight back, for Josh, for the people she insulted. She pulled a face, clenching her jaw and swallowing hard before looking down. "How about this? If you let me go, I can stock you with some information about the Earth dorms. I mean...we're at war. It could be helpful" She looked at him hopefully. It would be easy to give him information, that's all it was.

He smirked at her, she was a little too defiant for his liking. Though well, he didn't like anything about her period. "You know, for someone who's supposed to a goddamn pacifist, you sure like to provoke don't you." Well she wasn't really provoking him, he would've went in for the attack either way so it didn't really matter. He despised her, not just for being a bitch that wrecked everything, or just because she was Earth. He just didn't like her to begin with, she was the very opposite of him. That he didn't like at all.
He lit up another fire ball in his hand as she dodged the kick. Muscles twitched and flex as he went for the throw, but he stopped. She had just said something that peaked his interest. She was about to sell out her Earth buddies, just to get herself out of this situation. Damn they were a bunch of disloyal fucks, but who was he to complain when it was in his favour. He pulled his hand back, but still kept the flame going, "Alright so start talking before I start burning. I wanna know everything about the place. From how to get in there to where every fucking last bathroom is." He was serious too, he wanted all the info he could get on this place. It would be very helpful, "Gimme all that and Josh wont get a what looks like a half dead witch for a bride."

Nell certainly did not want to provoke him, it wasn't her intention. Her mouth had a mind of its own was the problem. You didn't talk about Josh or the Earths around her. That what brought her to open her mouth, even though anyone with common sense would have thought better of it. She should have thought better of it, but sometimes she didn't make the best decisions. It happened to everyone. "I don't want to fight you," she said. That was true. She didn't want to fight him, but she hated his cockiness, the way he thought he could get away with anything. She recognized it as something she'd seen in her relatives, because they had power too. They ran New York, the Sinclairs took the streets, the Fuenteses took the law. It was almost funny, really.
She kept her breathing even, glad that he stopped with the goddamn Fire balls. Nell didn't let the anger enter her eyes at the mention of Josh. Say his name one more time, try me. Her temper was difficult to invoke. She didn't really have one. But Josh was a good way to get on her bad side, even so much a word about him. She didn't handle it well. She loved him, he could do no wrong in her eyes. "All right, fine," she said, taking a breath as she eyed the fire warily. "There's only one entrance to the place. It's in the cliffs. There's a tunnel in one of the caves. You could burn the doors, I bet, they're just a lot of foliage. From there it's the common room. Boys on the left, girls on the right. Nothing much to it, really, I don't know any more details to give you." Her eyes flickered back to the fire. "Will you let me go now?"

The Fire leader gazed down on Nell as she sold out her own friends. He wasn't even smiling anymore, not even the pissed off look he had before was on his face. It was just set; emotionless, like stone. "You know, you and that dick really do deserve each other. I would've respected you more if you kept your fucking mouth shut and took the beating." Chase extinguished the fireball in his hand and stuffed both in his pockets as he kept on walking. As he passed by her he kicked a bunch of dirt up into her face, "Your kinda kinda shit right? Taste good?" A chuckle left his lips at this comment.
After he passed her he stopped walking and stood still, about five feet away. The eighteen year old looked over his shoulder at the older girl, "You Earths really are pathetic. In any case, for your sake I hope all that information was true or else..." He lit up another ball and tossed into the wall right above her head and smiled, "Next time, that'll be you. Now get the fuck outta my sight." Chase continued walking, though not to his previously intended destination which were the dorms. He was going to verify the info this girl had just given him. Couldn't very well plan an attack and not have all his facts straight now could he.
