This couldn't have happened again. She knew that if she failed this assignment that she was going to die a painful death given to her by her mother and she wasn't looking forward to that at all! Though, by death she meant just a very long skype call that would leave her ears ringing for days on end, and she would probably have her laptop taken away because of the noise. She might have been the wind leader but noise wasn't something that her room mate really like when it was late, or really during the night in general. It had happened once before and all that she could remember was, well, nothing. It was a bad point of her life and she never really wanted to get to this point ever. EVER. again! She knew that she needed to pass this subject in all and there was nothing that was going to get in her way, well other than this assignment that this.
Her teacher had told her to sit in this classroom, this very weird looking classroom, and trying to get some sort of work done before he came back and she knew that that was going to be harder than it looked. It had felt like hours and hours had past at this point and all she could think about was going back to her dorm and going to sleep, or just booting up her laptop to play a couple hours of World of Warcraft. But in fact it had only been half an hour and she was still left with all of her class notes, assignment notes and the draft of the couple thousand word essay under everything else, and the litter of white pages seemed to never end, considering it was in fact taking up half of the massive table. For the most part she wished that this situation was more like an action movie, although she wish everything was like that half of the time!
And that's when it hit her,
Why couldn't it be! She looked at her ruler and started to draw, making it look more and more like a sword with every second! Taking her 'sword' and stand up and the room around her changed, in her mind at least. "Troll! You think you can bet me huh! Well, I bet you have never seen this a word count like this!" She said with some sort of weird tone in voice. Well at least it did make her want to do her work just that little bit more. It might be something else for others, but for her, yea she is weird! This went on for at least 10 minutes. She went around the table giving insults and pretending to fight random things until she heard the door open. As soon as this happened Kiya ran back to the table and made sure she looked like she had been doing her work, hoping that whoever just walked in wouldn't think otherwise.

He needed somewhere quiet, he decided. They were having a library day in some of the ninth and tenth grade classes and so the place was pretty full and made it hard to find a table if you were not a part of the distinct group. With no desire to be crowded by a lot more people than the solace of the library was worth, he decided that his research would be better conducted elsewhere. Perhaps an empty classroom or a deserted corridor would be best. He packed up the computer and slid it into his bag alongside his school books and whatever papers he had stored inside the large binder. The bag was heavy and it sometimes hurt his shoulder but he was tough enough that it didn't bother him too much.
There wasn't much snow on the ground. He noticed this when he was passing a row of windows in one hall and their light spilled in, shattering into different colours and patterns from the stained glass and pooling in a light iron-like shape from the windows that had regular glass. There were torches along the wall opposite the window that cast a warm glow over everything. A nice touch. He barely paid the interior of the castle any mind nowadays though, it's grandeur long since adjusted to. He had been attending the Academy seven years and he was now on his eighth and final. It wore out its novelty after a while.
When he reached one of the hallways full of classrooms he took to trying all the doors in succession as he walked down it. Most were predictably locked but the repetitive motion was lulling and he did not find himself frustrated by his lack of luck. He was almost surprised when one of them finally did turn and open. He blinked as he noticed a girl rushing to her seat and plopping down, only witnessing the last few seconds of this and so not realising what she might have been up to before he'd entered. He blinked once or twice and hesitated to say something for a couple of seconds, not sure what to make of it. The classroom was far from disused from the looks of it and he wondered what it was she'd been in a rush about. "Did you think I was someone else?" he wondered, still unsure of why it was that she'd hurried back to her seat. He was no one to run from, after all, just another college student.
Then he realised that she looked familiar, blinked again. "Kiya?" He made a point to introduce himself to any friend of Annabel's that she met online and knew in real life, mostly because he was protective of his little sister and wanted to keep her safe. It annoyed the hell out of his sister but this hardly phased him. "Sorry, I didn't realise you were in here. I could leave, if you were looking for privacy." Wasn't that why he himself was here, after all? He was not intending to intrude and didn't have too much of an issue with wandering back into the hall and trying doors again.

As soon as Kiya had heard something she just hoped that who ever it was, even if it was her teacher, wasn't going to think that she was weird or anything. Even though it was easy to see by the way that dressed and the way that she acted, that she was just a little odd. "Did you think I was someone else?" Was heard from the door way and at least it sounded young and not on the older side. Kiya had known that if it was her teacher she would be in detention for at least the next couple of weeks and that was something that she didn't think that she would be able to live through. But on the other hand the voice also sounded quite young, which meant that it could either be around her ago, so someone that was in her year or the above, or it was a collage student. She did know a few really nice and cool collage students but you never really know what you are going to get when it comes to this sort of school. As far as Kiya knew it could have been a fire or thunder and therefore she wouldn't be in the best situation. It was at this point that Kiya had heard the voice speak again.
"Kiya?"
That was a game changer. It was like suddenly gaining a level in the middle of boss battle due to killing the mobs that the threw at you because the would have the screen. She turned around to see a familiar face, thankfully in her case. The voice had belonged to Josh Dale, the elder brother of one her favorite girls to play MMO's with, and mainly now that she knew the siblings. Josh had talked to her about a year because he was just being a good brother and wanting to know who she was talking to over the internet, though to be honest if she knew that her younger brother was doing the same thing she would be on the web looking up and talking to the people as well. "Josh, it is good to see you." Kiya said with a smile on her face!
"Sorry, I didn't realise you were in here. I could leave, if you were looking for privacy." Josh had said, with what seemed like all intentions on leaving the room. Kiya could tell that he had been looking for a quiet place to study and she also knew that this was one of the only classrooms in this building to be free at the current moment. "Don't even worry about it," She said with a smile on her face, hoping that something may even come out of them talking, "I am going to be the only one in here for awhile so you might as well stay. I have a feeling that I may be in here for a little while longer,"

When Annabel had first started getting a little more serious about her gaming in talking to (real) people online instead of simply playing solo on her many consoles, both Joshua and his parents had been a little concerned. They'd put him up to trying to make sure she didn't talk to anyone that could end up hurting her. Since Annabel was close to him it had made sense that she would let him hang around and play a couple of rounds with her, talk to the same people that she was talking to. He had not asked many questions of them or been too overbearing, he'd merely wanted to ensure that none of them came across as... concerning, that none were a threat to his little sister.
After realising what he was up to, Annabel had pitched a bit of a fit about it and confronted both Joshua and her parents. That had been rather awkward because he didn't like it when his little sister was upset with him but at the same time he understood and had shared his parents' concerns. Of course, 'we just want to make sure you're safe' might have sounded reasonable to anyone that wasn't a thirteen year old girl struggling with her need for independence. She'd cried a few times in frustration, slammed her door, refused to talk to him. It had been especially strained since he was living with Nell at the time. He hadn't been able to stick around and make up with her. She'd gotten over it eventually, though, and he had to admit that it had been kind of nice when she'd found out that Kiya lived near her. She was always searching for more gaming friends to hang out with in real life as well.
Kiya seemed in a good enough mood at least. He was still puzzling over the way she'd rushed back to her seat but as she hadn't answered his question about her thinking him to be someone else, he wasn't entirely sure the reason for it. Trying not to let it bother him too much, he said, "Yeah, uh, same to you." He didn't know her all that well and so he wasn't completely comfortable in conversation yet. It took a few meetings for Joshua to really grow accustomed to a person's personality enough to let a conversation flow easily. He nodded when she told him not to worry about the interruption, deciding then that he might as well come further into the room. He sat down on one of the desks, hands braced against the wooden surface. He was tall enough that his legs did not even dangle in the slightest over the sides. Six foot three, to be exact.
She mentioned that she might be in the room for a while and he frowned. "Why's that?" He didn't like to pry or be nosy but the way she worded it made it sound like she either did not have too much of a choice or she was forcing herself to do... whatever it was that she was doing. "Are you busy with something in particular?" He'd only come here for some peace and quiet so he could not share that feeling. He liked being busy, though, so it wasn't like it would be much of a burden. Lip twitching in amusement at the thought of Kiya's friendship with his sister, he wondered, "Have you talked to Annabel at all today? I haven't run into her." They'd be going home together and all since they lived under the same roof but he had not bumped into his sister for the whole day. He wondered if Kiya had.

When Kiya started to think it about it, it might have been just a little weird. She was talking to one of her best gaming friends at the academy's brother. Older brother at that. For her, it wasn't just that it was more the fact that he was the one that contacted her to start with. Even though she did understand why he had done it in the first place, it was more the fact that she would tell him if anything back had happened online with his sister because that would be what she would do for her brother, to be completely honest. So in some sort of way this wasn't the first time that they had spoken to each other, it was just that all the other times it had been over the mighty internet and the fact that this was the first time they had actually spoken face to face and god this was weird. Though it was a good distraction on her work to be honest. She hadn't thought about it for a couple of seconds and then suddenly her head just started to hurt again. Though it was the point where she remembered why she never really did homework in the first place!
To begin she really didn't know what to say. She knew from people around the academy that Josh was pretty smart and could probably help her with what she was currently doing but at the same time he probably have better things to bet doing then helping a eleventh grader with her homework because she was up all night playing video games with his little sister. Maybe it wouldn't be the best idea in the world to mention that to him at all. "I may or may not have forgotten to finish my Biology assignment and now the teacher wants me to work in here to get it finished." Well at least it was half of the truth, halfl-y. She had forgotten to do the assignment but the rest she thought might be better left out of the conversation. But it was his second question that got her thinking, which wasn't something you could get her doing very often. "Annabel? Hm, I think I saw her in the library with some friends but that was only a glance. Why do you ask?" She knew that Ananbel was a good kid, and she always did try and keep her mouth just a little sweet around the younger water girl but she hadn't really seen her around recently. Kiya was more wondering why Josh hadn't seen her at all.

There were a few things in Joshua's life that he was passionate about. Biology was one of them. His gray eyes almost seemed to light up as his lips were graced with a rare smile, a sign that what she'd said had caught his attention. It might have seemed a bit odd that he was getting excited about her being stuck in the classroom thanks to her professor but that was not it at all. It was the simple mention of the subject that had drew him in. "Ah, Biology," he said, as if that explained everything. He did love it but he knew that it could be a bit of a difficult subject to work through if you didn't have a strong passion for it. "I'm a Bio major," he told her, for though they had spoke a couple of times before he had not really revealed much about himself at all. He wasn't a very open person if he did not know someone well and usually avoided talking about his own life if he could help it. Which he could, most times. If things got too bad he was not opposed to simply telling someone to mind their own damn business. Actually Joshua was a double major but considering she wasn't studying History he avoided mentioning this. It was not relevant right now. "What are you working on? Maybe I could help." He said 'maybe' so that it sounded more like an offer. He could help, he was pretty sure of that, but he did not like to force his company on others.
His lip twitched fondly at the mention of his sister. She's always with her friends, he thought to himself. They were as different as day and night concerning their social habits. He had a few close friends and not many other people that he felt he could trust, where Annabel would befriend anyone and their mother. She also didn't hesitate to talk about herself, as he'd learned from hearing her babble away to people she met, including Joshua's friends sometimes. It was why he'd been worried about the internet thing at first, scared that she was going to get carried away in some conversation or another and suddenly everyone knew everything that there was to know about her. "Cause she's my sister?" It wasn't meant to be sarcastic and he didn't roll his eyes or anything. It wasn't even really a question. Why else would I want to know? "Curiosity is all. Figured you might have talked to her or something." He didn't often talk to his sister at the Academy because they had completely different friends. Age difference could be a pain sometimes. She liked Nell, Devin, Lark, Gale, a lot of his friends really, but liking them did not mean that she hung around them at school. She had her classmates to hang around with, and her friends like Kiya with whom she shared far more similarities. "Will the teacher be back soon? I'd rather avoid being chewed out." Some teachers got really weird about friends 'helping' one another out and even though Kiya was not exactly a 'friend', the same principle applied.

That was something that she really wanted to hear. For sure Kiya knew that Josh had some sort of science major in college but she never knew that it was Biology major. This seemed to be the best thing to happen to her so far today and with the way that he was currently smiling, even though it was small, indicated that he was maybe just that little bit happy to hear that is was Biology and to some degree she was just as happy to hear that it was Bio that he did actually major in. ”Really? I would love some help!” The look on her face was just a little priceless, at least it was for her. She was just really happy, considering the fact that this was one of the only subjects that she actually had trouble in during the year and that was just a little annoying to know this. She may have failed or even in some cases almost failed some subjects but it she never really failed as much as she thought that she was currently at this point. ”I am currently doing some stuff on Cell Structure and the human overall biology,” She knew that this may or may not have any ideas on what she was doing her assignment on, but she could always hope, ”I need to write 1500 words on both the basics and some complex stuff on it, I have all the research but I can never really write it our very well!” Kiya knew that it was a stupid thing to say but she could say that she wasn’t really thinking about that when she said it. That always worked when she got into arguments with her brothers and it seemed to work, half of the time. ”Sorry about that, this is what being tried does to me!” That was true. With the amount of sleep that she had been getting over the past couple of days, it wasn’t surprising that she was saying stupid things in the first place. ”The last time that I actually talked to her would have been last night, online. Though, I did tell her to go to bed as soon as 11 pm came around. The last thing I want is for her to be tried during the day!” That was true. She really didn’t want Annabel to be as tried as she herself was on a daily basis considering how much she knew that younger people need their sleep. As soon as he had asked about her teacher Kiya couldn’t help but laugh a little. ”He has probably forgotten that I am even in here, he is weird like that. You have nothing to worry about!” [/blockquote]

She really seemed to light up when he mentioned being a Biology major. He was not used to cheering people up a whole lot but it was a nice feeling on the rare occasions that it happened. He lacked the consistent compassion and empathy that others often had but that did not mean he didn't enjoy helping. It only meant that a lot of the times he found trouble relating to people on a more personal level. He couldn't understand things as well if he'd never gone through them himself.
Papers had always been something he was good at. English had never been his favourite class and he had never held any sort of desire to be a poet or an editor but that did not mean he was bad at it by any means. He had a decent way with words and he was good at coming up with things that got his point across in a sensible but unique way. He liked to stand out. He liked to receive compliments. He liked to be better than his classmates because it meant that he'd have the better chance at getting into medical school when the time came. It was a competitive field. "All right. Cell structure. You said human biology so I'm guessing plant cells are out. Anything specific?" There was a lot of biology to be had in the human body and so he didn't want to overwhelm her with a wealth of knowledge. "If you've got all the research and you're just struggling to write it, feel free to bounce things off me. I can tell you if I think they'll make sense?" He knew about Biology so he'd be able to tell if it was accurate and if he could understand what she was going on about.
He didn't like being tired. In all fairness he didn't think that anyone enjoyed the feeling. It was so strange and once you got to a certain point, nothing made sense any more. His lip twitched. "Don't worry about it." He hadn't been irritated that she'd asked, at least. He was a Fire but his temper was a lot less random than that.
He lifted his brows at Kiya's comment. Annabel, go to bed that early? It was funny and elicited a brief chuckle from the Fire elemental. "I'm sure that worked out so well." It was sarcastic but in a good-natured way. He did try to be a good older brother and remind her that she had classes in the mornings but she was an independent and stubborn girl. Eventually he'd given up. He did go to sleep at a decent time and he knew she'd just wait until he dozed off to get back online if he tried to force regulation. "There's no use trying with her, really." She was fourteen years old, not five, she wasn't as impressionable as a kid. Teenagers were stubborn.
He'd never had a particularly forgetful teacher and decided that it was a good thing. What if they forgot which students got good marks and messed up the system? Goodbye perfect GPA. "All right, then. Guess I'm staying." He sat down with the intent of helping her with her Biology work.

To know that some was there to help was the best feeling in the world. Like when you decided to go in the wrong section of a game and some random just decides to help you out, even though that doesn’t happen very often! She had always had trouble with science subjects but Kiya had always gotten her way around that by studying her ass off whenever her friends on the net would make her. It was the wrong time to mention that, but it was still the truth. The thing that really sucked was the fact that half the times she would be able to do all the research but just getting it all together and turning that information into an essay was always the hardest thing to do. Unfortunately, it was something that always let her down and it was just getting to the point that she really just didn’t care half the time. Cell Structure had been really fun to do when it came to the research and the getting the actual information was really interesting but as soon as the teacher had said that he wanted in presented in an essay format she couldn’t help but just cry a little to herself. No. Kiya was way to cool for that sort of stuff. “Trust me, any help with this is amazing. Thanks a bunch!” She was happy just to have the help, it wasn’t like she was stupid or anything but still. Help was always welcome in her books.
As soon as the conversation had turned to talking about people being tried, Kiya could feel herself yawn. That may have sounded weird but it was true. It was just something else that Kiya could add to that never ending list of weird thing that make up herself. But as soon as the train had left the mental station she realised that she really could win with this. She knew that Annabel wouldn’t go to bed, even if she yelled at her over the computer but it was still something that she wouldn’t do when she was that age anyways. All of the times that her online friends had told her to go to bed and she hadn’t back when she was that ages was larger than Santa’s list of naughty children. “You do have a point there, I was that age once and I did the same thing. Good times…” It was one of those moments that you would just stare into space and just remember stuff, even though Kiya really only did that to look super awesome, well more awesome then she already was that it. “umm… SO Cell Structure, how does that sound for the opening paragraph?” She said as she pushed a piece of paper in front of the Senior.

He flashed a brief smile when she thanked him. He didn't see it as being much trouble, honestly, for he was passionate about Biology and she appreciated the help. He had tutored students many times before and so it wasn't like it was a one-time thing. Besides, Kiya was a friend of his little sister and he was always more willing to help if he didn't have a previous problem against someone or they weren't a complete stranger. Strangers often felt intimidated by his imposing nature and Fire and Thunder students, well, he tried to avoid having to work with them if he could. It was simply a lot easier to avoid a fight if the people he was tutoring didn't have some kind of grudge themselves.
He furrowed his brow and looked as if he was contemplating something. After a pause, he said, "You're not too much older than her, though, right?" He'd thought that she was only two or three years above Annabel and in his opinion that wasn't a whole lot. He considered five years to be a bit more of a sizeable stretch. His own fiancée was almost two years younger than him and that didn't affect them at all. Nor did the age gaps between he and Lark or Devin matter. "Our parents used to try but, eh, everyone gives up after a while." He shrugged his shoulders. It wasn't the responsibility of her friends to make sure she didn't stay up late and so he didn't blame them if she was still awake at three in the morning. Chuckling, he said, "I just remind her that it's no one's fault but hers if she falls asleep in class the next day." There was a lesson to be learned, there.
He occupied himself with his phone whenever she was busy with writing or reading over things, checking his text messages and messing around with an app or two. He'd never been reliant upon his technology but he couldn't deny that the phone was a nice thing to have around when he needed a distraction. When she spoke, he glanced up and then slipped the phone back into his pocket, sliding the paper closer to himself and flipping it around so that he could read it when she pushed it toward him. He frowned thoughtfully at it, twirling the pen he picked up in one hand. He didn't actually write on the paper as he would have if it was his own work or if he'd been told it was all right but he pointed out things as he read and offered specific opinions, corrections, or compliments depending. "But then, I've been taking Biology for years, I might be a little over-critical sometimes," he reminded her, to be fair. "If anything ends up being something unfamiliar and I mention it, just disregard it. Wouldn't want the professor knowing you had help." He winked.

It was something different time, or that was how Kiya felt whenever she tries to start a new paragraph of this darn assignment. She wasn’t really someone that asked for help very often, so it wasn’t that she hated the subject or the teacher, it was more that she just felt as if the teacher weren’t approachable. If she couldn’t talk to the teacher than she wouldn’t be able to ask the teacher if she was writing anything right or anything. This usually ended up with her not getting the best marks in the world, unfortunately. She had always wanted that one friend that knew everything, so that she could just ask them for help so it would be easy and she would be able to get at least better than you know, just passing. At this moment, Josh sort of seemed like that one friend that she had wanted, but the fact was that she was his younger sister’s internet and just recently irl friend. Well, it was close enough as far as Kiya was concerned!
As soon as she had realized what she had said about ages and what Josh said, Kiya couldn’t help but laugh a little to herself. “You do have a point there.” Well, she was able to admit that she was wrong, which was something that she was getting used too. Kiya had recently befriended many people that were older and therefore wiser than her when it came to some things. It wasn’t that she thought that she was all that, it was more that she knew that she didn’t know everything and sometimes that was just a bit weird. Well, you know what they say, ‘you learn something new every day.’ Once sleeping patterns came into conversation she could help but feeling a little like this was one of the things that she knew a lot about, “My mother tried once, never worked.” That was true, once Kiya started to make all-nighters for games her mother had tried to stop her. Like that ever worked! “But that I knew all too well now.” Sleeping in class was what got her detentions most of the time!
That was what she was writing. Biology. It was such an interesting subject, when she knew what she was doing but like most things, Kiya got really distracted and it wasn’t hard to do it either! At least with someone looking over your work it was a little harder to get distracted, that was for sure. Mainly considering Josh was a senior and this was one of his majors. Once she had passed him what she had started, or at least done so far, she really couldn’t wait to see what he thought about it. “That’s alright, an opinion is better than nothing, if you know what I mean.” That was so true, it was better to get someone’s opinion on something than not do anything and just do what you think is right. “Will do, I will make sure to do that.” Kiya said sending a wink back Josh’s way. He was pretty cool, I guess. If he was willing to help then he must be, right?

Joshua tried not to let age come into the picture with most of his friendships, mostly because he knew how it had felt at fourteen to have anyone older trying to tell him what to do. He was proud and he was stubborn, it had set him on edge. Annabel probably took it with a lot more grace than he did but it still brought back memories, some good and some not so much. "I never had the best schedule either. Granted it was for different reasons but my parents still tried their best to correct it." He was terrible when it came to studying, not because he was bad at it but because he took it so seriously that he'd stay up hours past a 'respectable' time and forget to eat unless someone came up to remind him. His parents had tried to monitor it at first out of concern for his health but when it became clear there was no solution, they shrugged their shoulders and gave up. Now he was their successful son headed off to medical school next year. He hoped they were proud of that. "They failed, 'course. I never was into games, though, so I guess they weren't as critical as they could have been." He would play a few rounds of Halo with the guys if he hung out with a group of his friends but he was usually the underdog that ended up dying a lot. His focus had always been on school work.
He nodded. "Can't argue with that. It's not always a good idea to critique your own stuff. You miss mistakes." Either that or you ended up judging it too harshly or too lightly depending on your self-confidence. Joshua was very critical of his own work not because he thought he was bad at writing or research but because he always wanted to make sure that he did the best that he could. Medical school was competitive, they only took the best, he wanted to be the best. That brought a question to mind. "Looks all right to me overall, just keep the possible changes I mentioned in mind, I guess. Why'd you take bio, anyway? Is it an interest of yours?" He couldn't help himself sometimes. A lot of his friends had no interest in the subject that he fawned over and so it was nice to bump into someone who at least took it so that they knew what he was talking about when he went off into a tangent.

Sleeping schedules where something that Kiya had never really had. It wasn’t like she didn’t like sleeping or anything; it was more that found many things more interesting that sleeping itself and when it came to playing games, sleeping always came second in a battle for life and death. Seeing as Josh was a senior it really didn’t surprise her that his sleeping patterns where a little different from most peoples. It wasn’t even just games that she had been staying up for, recently she had been trying to get homework done and had been trying to hang out with people that weren’t on the internet. She had just been trying to get out more because her father was worried about her wellbeing or something along those lines. After everything that her father and herself had been though, she was willing to do anything to be able to help him and if that meant going outside and actually talking to real people, she was willing to do that. “My parents have only just started cracking down on that sort of stuff. Dad is always on my back about sleeping more and actually going outside!” Well, even though she had said it in a joking tone of voice, Kiya did mean every word of it. She had really just recently decided that she wanted to try, even though she knew in the back of her mind that she was never going to stop her video gaming habits!
Kiya had always marked her own work before even thinking about giving it to a teacher, if she was to ever give it to a teacher that is and considering that was the case, it was easy to guess that most of the corrections made in the final copy would be spelling and punctuation. It wasn’t like that was anything new to her, but it was one when she actually gave in a draft that she would get a good make and that was always a good time for Kiya. “You have a really good point there my friend!” As soon as Josh had given her the final pointers for her assignment he had asked her a question that had really gotten her thinking about why she did pick to do biology in the first place. Above of anything, she remember her mother calling her and telling her that she needed to do at least science subject so that she would have to challenge herself during classes! But as soon as she started to think about it she remembered something quite important, “My elder brother took the subject and was really good at it, so I decided that I would try and do the same. Well, that and my mum told me to do a science!” Well, she did have a good reason to do something for once!

Considering Kiya's grade, he supposed that it made sense for her parents to start stressing the importance of a sleep schedule. The last two years of high school tended to be a lot more difficult than the first two and her parents probably wanted to ensure that she didn't start failing due to her gaming habits. He wondered what sorts of thoughts had went through the minds of his own parents when raising him. He hadn't presented the problem of being a bad or even lazy student but he'd been temperamental and argumentative which meant that their lives had hardly been easy. "Parents, eh?" The words were light and accompanied with a brief, amused twitch of his lips. Though everyone had different parents who had differing ways of dealing with their children, there were some universal exasperations that many could share. "I get out enough. It was never one of the things I had to worry about." He was a fairly active individual despite the fact that he wasn't fond of sports. He played tennis, usually at the rec centre if he wanted to play with someone else instead of alone in the court at the mansion, and he also went for frequent jogs to keep up his fitness. One might say that his parents had lucked out for never having to freak over his health or intelligence, or they might say the Dales had been cursed with a son whose anger problems and previous gang involvement put too much on their plate. Not that they'd known about that gang involvement until it had all caught up to Josh anyway.
Another thing he'd never had to deal with was the admiration of an elder sibling. He was the older sibling and so the idol in his life had been his father. "In case it ran in the family?" He was not sure why she'd take the same thing as her brother and so he took a random guess. Not a lot of things ran in his family. His father had went to medical school and became a doctor but he'd had to work hard to pass his classes even in high school where Joshua soared easily through most courses. "I took it out of interest," he admitted, chuckling. He was a dork and he really didn't have any issues with letting people know about this. If it wasn't an interest he'd have probably dropped it the moment he'd graduated from high school and found himself considered a secondary education. "I'm studying for medical school next year." It was personal information, sure, and she hadn't asked about it, but he had no problem telling people that he wanted to be a doctor. It was his future career, he was proud of his choice and his dedication to the path that he'd decided to follow. Biology was a part of this path and now Kiya knew that about him. "So if you ever need help with future papers, well, you know who to ask." Their connection through Annabel meant that a message would be able to be relayed between them fairly quickly, he figured.
